"Ed, you get out of there! That's gross." Megan kneeled over and shrieked to the sullen boy. Edmond lounged moodily in the clear, still water of the pond. The top of his head was dry (for now) but the rest of him, fully dressed in jacket and scarf and all, were soaked through. "Oh, it's fine." His voice bubbled up and caused the green-tinged surface of the water to dance across the bridge of his nose. "I was born in a pond just like this." He let pond water in and out of of his mouth as he spoke, like a fish flicking its gills to catch the oxygen. Even in human guise he felt more at home when submerged like thus. "You're gonna be soggy all day!" Megan leaned forward as though it would emphasize her point, as if he was looking. "Oh, but he's usually soggy," Blackjack spoke gently. Not a condemnation, just a fact. "I am indeed soggy." Edmond lifted a hand above the water to demonstrate, with a flippant gesture to shoo his companions away. "Let me be soggy in peace, please." "Are you wearing your bag?" She leaned so far over as to dip her hair in the pond water, and Blackjack silently held her elbow to keep her from tipping over. "You want everything in your bag to be wet?" "All that's in there are snacks, I don't care." "Oh so you've ruined a bunch of food and you don't care." "I don't." He wriggled a hand into the side of his messenger bag and pulled out a thoroughly soaked jelly donut. Grains of rice crumbled off the top, drifting deeper into the pond. He got the rest into his mouth before it could disintegrate further. "If anything I prefer my food wet." Megan wretched. "That's disgusting, never do that in front of me again." "Then don't look in the water," he chuckled, and scooted deeper into the pond until even his hat disappeared.

I originally was just going to draw Edmond sitting in the water and then it turned into a whole scene and practice on drawing clear water. And lamenting that Blackjack's hair is the same color as any grass or leaves he might be sitting in front of.

The Goldeen in the water with him is Sweetgum, who is my Dive user for this run. I don't have a character design for her but I think she and Edmond are friends, they swim together. I'm debating the pros and cons of developing her into a love interest for Ed. On the one hand, I think it's funny and cute that all his platonic, familial relationships are grass-themed but his personal comfort and possible romance are water-themed. The duality of Ludicolos. On the other hand, all the humans in their world perceive Edmond as a human but would only be able to see Sweetgum as a fish. I could get a few good gags out of 'this man is dating a fish' but is it worth it? Is it worth it? Also they're not in the same egg group.

The autumn colour of Liquidambar styraciflua 'Worplesdon' (sweet gum) is enhanced by sunshine. The tree has lobed leaves, which are similar to that of Acer (maple) species but the leaves are alternately positioned on the branches rather than opposite.

Dambar: The Witch of Sweetgum

Dambar, the witch of sweetgum with a chary nature, Dambar flutters around its bountiful forest barrier taking care of the many rare and exotic plants, unlike many witches, this witch is typically tame to outsiders, unless said outsider tries taking a plant without the permission of Dambar, making it fly into a rage, turning the outsider into fertilizer for its dear plants. Only close friends, including puella magi, of Dambar are allowed to take plants. Many of these plants can be made into magically powerful medicine.

Antoni, the familiar of Dambar, their duty is to harvest and sow, Dambar spends so much time taking care of its plants, that it cannot have the time to harvest and plant new ones. They scatter around seeds from inside themselves around empty ground, and harvest plants finished growing into peculiar shaped storehouses. Antoni does not have much use in battle apart from attacking foes with their somewhat pointy seeds from the holes in its burr. Antoni has an peculiarly uncanny resemblance to a popular familiar.

Tentative design for Sweetgum the Goldeen/Seaking. I'm trying carefully to avoid crafting her personality around being the girlfriend of another character. I have to give her a couple of interests outside of 'swimming' and 'boyfriend.' Work in progress! I think the design works, aside from mmmaybe the shoes. I was focusing on matching Edmond's 'normal clothes under swimming gear' look but with nice looking clothes instead of gross, unkept clothes. So they contrast.
