Mercy:

a compass that doesn’t waver

You are someone who is certain of what you want. Maybe you always have been, or maybe you made a discovery that you haven’t been able to tear your eyes away from. Your heart is set and certain. You fight endlessly for your goals. Above all else, you know who you are and what you are trying to achieve. Just be careful not to tear yourself or others apart in pursuit of your ideals.

This is so Mercy. 110% Mercy. Right now, she's all about the fight. All about to save her son. All about making the Commonwealth safe. But, she's held in check by the men who love her, her found family, and her friends. Without them, she'd probably literally run head-first into death trying to save Shaun.

Sparrow:

a bird struggling to get loose

Your heart can never hold still. It pounds against your chest frantically, always turning your sights to one thing after the next. When was the last time you were certain? The last time your life was stable? Maybe this is how you prefer things. On the move constantly, not tied down to one person or place. You chase one goal after the next. Can you ever really feel complete without a place to land? Shouldn’t you build yourself a nest?

This is Very Sparrow when she first meets Canary. She's lost, alone, afraid - hurt and damaged and without a home or friends or a family. Then she meets Canary and suddenly, suddenly she has all of those things. But, she still lives in fear that everything will end, that she'll be cast out again, that her home will disappear. It takes a long while for her to believe that she deserves to be happy and loved and taken care of. A long time.

Frankie:

broken, missing pieces that once were there

Your heart has been torn before, chipped and maybe even shattered. Some pieces will never be recovered, and you are shaped by the loss. But it can still be shaped into something tangible, something good, even with its flaws and imperfections. You don’t have to do all the work of rebuilding by yourself. Allow other hands to leave their fingerprints on the new heart you create from the remnants.

Frankie is the product of a cult, the child of a home built on the lies told by her father. A person baptized in the irradiated waters of the past. And now she's found Beau. But no matter how much life changes, at heart, she's still that child being raised by a monster, still hearing how her existence is nothing without Atom, how her entire life exists FOR Atom's glory. And it's going to take a lot of time with people who see past where she came from for her to realize she doesn't have to stay there.

Mercury (Rhy):

a guiding, golden light

Just because you cannot see your own heart doesn’t mean that others can’t. Your heart is blinding, captivating, a fire so bright that others can’t bring themselves to look away. It illuminates the path they follow and cements you as a guiding star for their own wayward hearts. Every experience you’ve lived through has built your lighthouse heart up just a little higher. You are inspirational, a light that doesn’t go out.

Rhy is a new OC and one I'm really interested in developing. She's been sent to keep track of Canary because Acting Director Ayo thinks Canary is up to no good. Which she is, but Ayo doesn't need to know that. Rhy gets to the surface, starts traveling, gains a dog (named Cheddar) and suddenly can't bear the thought of going back. So she's going to turn herself in to Canary and hope Canary can help her get free. So she can stay on the surface with Cheddar and be an artist.

One of my biggest nitpicks in fiction concerns the feeding of babies. Mothers dying during/shortly after childbirth or the baby being separated form the mother shortly after birth is pretty common in fiction. It is/was also common enough in real life, which is why I think a lot of writers/readers don't think too hard about this. however. Historically, the only reason the vast majority of babies survived being separated from their mother was because there was at least one other woman around to breastfeed them. Before modern formula, yes, people did use other substitutes, but they were rarely, if ever, nutritionally sufficient.

Newborns can't eat adult food. They can't really survive on animal milk. If your story takes place in a world before/without formula, a baby separated from its mother is going to either be nursed by someone else, or starve.

It doesn't have to be a huge plot point, but idk at least don't explicitly describe the situation as excluding the possibility of a wetnurse. "The father or the great grandmother or the neighbor man or the older sibling took and raised the baby completely alone in a cave for a year." Nope. That baby is dead I'm sorry. "The baby was kidnapped shortly after birth by a wizard and hidden away in a secret tower" um quick question was the wizard lactating? "The mother refused to see or touch her child after birth so the baby was left to the care of the ailing grandfather" the grandfather who made the necessary arrangements with women in the neighborhood, right? right? OR THAT GREAT OFFENDER "A newborn baby was left on the doorstep and they brought it in and took care of it no issues" What Are You Going to Feed That Baby. Hello?

Like. It's not impossible, but arrangements are going to have to be made. There are some logistics.
