And now I want a lil mini story of Dazai trying to bond with his newborn child and adapt to being a father. Cuz as you covered in the headcanons, he’d be struggling with a lot in the beginning most likely. And I really desperately want to expand on that

The reader’s gender is your choice. You can make it another part of the accidental pregnancy ask, or a stand alone, or not mention a reader at all and just focus on Dazai and his child

But you brought up some interesting thoughts there and if you’re comfortable playing with some a little more you know I would SNORT that up like a BEE

Headcannons !! ༊*·˚

★ I think Dazai would be confused on how to go about bonding with a child, because what do infants do? Sleep? Eat? So he takes every chance he gets to feed and rock the baby in his arms.

★ He plays peekaboo with the child, too. He also makes as much eye contact as possible because he read somewhere that it's a good way to communicate non verbally with a small baby.

★ When it reaches about 4 months old, as long as your child is laughing, that means he's doing something right. Until your child is bigger and is able to express their deeper emotions and feelings, he will settle for the amused squeals and laughs.

★ He also reads to the kid, turning the book around to show them them the pages while they sit in their tiny little baby swing. When he reads picture books, he goes all out, voice impressions and everything.

Scenario !! ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥

Dazai sat on the floor, staring at the newborn baby in her little swing. His legs were criss crossed as he observed her, watching every small movement she made in her little swaddle. He watches with adoration, still so amazed that he could create such a beautiful thing; such a miracle. He had never previously imagined himself having a family, especially not so soon, but he couldn't be more thankful now that he did.

He's torn from his thoughts when he hears the soft cries of his daughter, her face contorted from her recently peaceful one to one of sadness, and so did his. "Aw, what's wrong, honey?" He says, gently picking her up. He hushes her softly while rocking her back and forth in his arms, to no avail. Her cries become a little louder and he starts to internally panic a bit. "Hey, hey, you're alright, I promise!" He murmurs to her. "Are you hungry? Is that what it is?" He says, setting her back down in her baby swing for a moment and dashing off to the kitchen.

He makes her a bottle, shaking the formula and mixing it up while simultaneously speed walking back to his daughter. He sets down the bottle and scooches closer to her swing, taking her back into his arms and holding the bottle up to her mouth. She starts to suck on the top piece, slowly but surely draining the bottle. He smiles while watching her, removing the bottle from her mouth after a bit. He gently wipes her any excess formula from her mouth, giving her a bit of a break.

Dazai readjusts her posture in his arms, supporting her head as her small little eyes open and stare at him. He stares back, almost as if he were intimidated by the young baby. He felt silly about it, but at the same time he couldn't really help it. "Don't worry, I passed my good genes on to you." He says playfully to her. Her face makes a small grimaces again, and he knows it's probably because she wants the rest of her bottle, but he can't help but feel a little offended.

"Hey...you're not a very nice baby, are you? You probably got that from me, too." He murmurs, an eyebrow raised as he feeds her the bottle again. She seems content, which makes him smile. He feels her squirm a little bit and he quickly removes the bottle from her mouth, a bit of liquid remaining. He again wipes any remaining formula off her face before holding her to his chest. He sits down on the couch and carefully lays down, his head leaned against the armrest of the sofa.

He resumes his activity of just staring at her, so bewildered and actually astonished over what his life has come to. Positively, ofcourse. His fingers lightly caressed her head that was littered with teeny tiny baby hairs already. He can't keep himself from grinning, so proud of himself for not running away from a situation for once. Sure it has been difficult and he had his insecurities along the way, but he had a lovely partner to help him out of those holes he unintentionally mentally dug himself.

That support from you helped Dazai a great deal, as did holding his daughter for the first time. He actually cried when he did. He felt as though she was the most fragile thing in the entire world; a fragile thing that could be tainted solely by the blood on her fathers hands, the sins he has committed, yet every day she proves to be the most heaven-sent thing he has and ever will come across.

While he's sucked into his own thoughts, he can't help but smile subconsciously at the life has made for himself and refusing to let his past hold him back. He couldn't be happier, and he truly believed nothing would ever make him more ecstatic than his unforeseen family.

DEMI BARDING!! Big fan of that chonky suit after Asticassia ep so glad it's getting more use. I don't even care that I'm being manipulated into buying another kit. Secilia is a real one, glad she sat her butt down so the world didn't implode

This was a nice moment and gave Suletta closure on 4lan. He was someone she cared for, no matter how brief. That revelation about her list being Prospera's idea was a bit of a shocker tbh. I just thought she constructed it from the media she watched/read. The truth is way worse lmao. I guess it was meant to acclimate her to the school and therefore the dueling games for Aerial? Little did Prospera know that Suletta's dork charm would snare the heart of Delling's daughter immediately.

This was sudden but a joy to watch. I suppose Guel was tired of being Mio's ineffective secretary lol. But in all seriousness, this was sweet of him to arrange a duel so the lovebirds could be reunited. You've become a solid bro, Guel. Hope nothing dire happens to you.

Btw, I fully expect some fanfic authors to leap on a fencing au now. Pretty please?

This entire scene was so Utena I couldn't believe it. Well, actually the entire episode was littered with Utena but still. The baring of their mistakes. The acceptance of their faults. GOD this was so amazing.

I love how far Suletta has come in her development. Such an excellent change of mindset from viewing her time at Asticassia as a mistake to fully believing meeting Miorine was a blessing. She's so confident in her feelings

THEY'RE SOMEDAY TOGETHERINGGGG I see you Okouchi, giving us rabid Utena fans the good shit. This show is such a great homage in so many ways but this episode takes the cake! (Bit concerned that Suletta didn't verbally promise anything, just smiled fondly. Perhaps wistfully?)

This gave me such an unpleasant jumpscare though. The deliberate framing with Mio's bare legs followed by catastrophic bedhead freaked me out. I could have done without the Anthy reminder, thank you. Made such a sweet moment feel a bit horrific. I envy those who are oblivious to what I'm talking about

But this was so very sweet. I was getting misty-eyed. These babies have been through so much yet the truest thing is their love for each other. Their relationship remains the emotional core. Side note: Mio why are you the size of a housecat? Just how small was Notrette even

I'm glad I was correct in my read that Earth House doesn't truly blame Mio for Earth, only her staunch refusal to seek help. This was a nice little moment as was her brief words to Delling. Sleeping beauty certainly took his sweet time. I do wonder what he makes of this chaos?

Guel's reservation about Suletta heading to QZ is understandable but as she says, it's her choice. And Mio won't let anyone else decide Suletta's fate as she did before. Her quick death glare at Guel was so funny. Mans can only slap himself into complaince. Even when not engaged to Mio, he still obeys like a loyal sidekick lmao

Didn't expect this quick Shaddiq convo. I like how he recognizes instantly that Mio is better because of Suletta. It's very in character for him to accept Suletta's importance in Mio's life without resentment. I am wondering at the deal Mio makes with him. What could he possibly do for her? Perhaps it's Earth-related

At first I thought this was the sweetest thing. I still think it's sweet, but I also find the phrasing incredibly... weird. Not 'I'll always love you?' 'Always be with you'? Instead 'I will always be attached to you'. Could be nothing but it still sounds vaguely ominous. And it's coded in the genetic sequence of her tomatoes all things. The hell were you doing Notrette? Nice nod to mythology here though. Anesidora is an epithet for Demeter, an agricultural goddess, and Pandora. And like Pandora, Notrette unwittingly released evil in the form of QZ and possibly collaborated with Prospera to upload Ericht's biometric signature.

Aww farmer wives on Earth please! Still don't like Suletta only smiles when Mio declares anything future related. I get the rudest feeling she's not making hard promises because she's too aware of the peril. They look so happy here, so imma ignore the danger signs and just bask in their affection.

Mio forcing aside her own fear to support Suletta was so good. She was so relieved when Suletta broke Permet 5 alive, bursting into tears afterward. It was rough for me to hear Suletta gasping in pain, so I can't imagine how Mio must've felt. I don't ever want to see people claim she doesn't love Suletta ever again

I have thoughts on Calibarn's design (Utena spoilers) and place in the plot, but for this review I'll just say it looks neat. I wish it was a bit more unique, but it makes sense they need it to resemble its sibling plus its obvious Vanadis roots. That boom broomstick is super cool though!

I enjoyed Prospera's muted reaction here. She's surprised by Calibarn but not intimidated or angry. I'm sure she has complete faith in Eri's ability to handle this hurdle and her daughter's commitment to the plan. She must know Eri loves Suletta, but assumes it ultimately won't change a thing. For now, at least.

You know, I expected Lauda to lose it but I didn't expect him to be this stupid lol. You can't even use the damn GUND format idiot, you really think you'll beat your brother? I can't believe I gave him even the slightest bit of credit. Easily the worst character in the show. I hope Guel crushes him (and he doesn't get Guel killed in the process)

Petra deserves better 2023!

Ah and Eri peeks her GUND ghost form out to say hello before clashing with Suletta. This is an incredible shot, love the visuals as always. If it goes full Utena as I suspect, we'll see Eri break/override Calibarn. The name of a holy sword bashing at the Gwitch Rose Gate doesn't bode well. What that means for Suletta is anyone's guess, but I have faith she'll live. I fully expect her to get assistance of some kind. After all, the show has been telling us all along that working together is far better than struggling alone!

TWO

You must've put in an application at every place imaginable all over town. It's been a week and the phone lines have been silent. You're starting to wonder if you'll get any callbacks.

"Will you relax? Someone will call, okay?" Robin speaks up from the doorway of her room. You sink down to sit on the bed. "I'm seriously having my doubts."

"They will." Robin is unwrapping a bomb pop and holding it out to Stevie. Stevie takes it and climbs up onto your lap. You grimace at her reddened shoulders from an afternoon spent in the kiddie end of Hawkins pool and she leans back against you as Robin leans forward to hit play on yet another movie Steve Harrington rented for your daughter. Tonight it's Alice in Wonderland and as the opening credits roll, you're surprised to find yourself wondering what he's doing at the moment. It's a thought quickly buried as deep as you can.

As Alice finds herself in Wonderland on the television screen, your aunt's landline rings and you slip off the couch so Stevie goes to sit in Robin's lap. Until she remembers the glittery 'picture' she drew earlier and goes to get them both because she's made one for Steve too, a little thank you for being so nice to her when she knows she might be annoying at times.

"Who's this one for?" Robin asks, looking at the squiggles, circles and squares covered in glitter and drawn in vibrant red marker beneath. The purple glitter is falling off the page, settling on Robin’s bed. 

"Steve. I make him dragon. Only he doesn't breathe fire, he breathes toasts."

Robin laughs and smiles. "I see that. I'm gonna put mine right here. On my bulletin board." She hugs Stevie again and Stevie is hugging back, playing with her hair.

"'Kay!" Stevie laughs, looking up at Robin. “I like Steve. He’s sooooo nice.”

“Oh you do, huh?” Robin laughs again. Stevie nods. 

You wander back in and Robin speaks up. “Well?”

“That was the secretary job I applied for? I’m a ‘risk’ but they’re willing to give me a shot?” you’re still a little shocked because when you applied for the secretary position at some office in town, they were literally the last stop. You didn’t think they’d even look at your application, let alone hire you. “They want me to come in for face to face interviews tomorrow.”

Then it hits you. Your aunt Janet has to work. “Shit.”

“What?”

“I can’t, Robin.. Your mom has to work.”

“And?”

“And, I can’t take Stevie. I also can’t leave her alone.” you bite your lip as you mull it over.

Robin speaks up. “I’ll take her to Family Video with me. I’ve got a shorter shift tomorrow and it’s gonna be slow as hell anyway.”

“Robin…” you eye her warily.

“I’ll take her.” Robin repeats, firmer. “It’ll be fun. Won’t it, Stevie?” Robin gazes down at Stevie. “A little help here?” she asks, fluffing Stevie’s hair. Stevie is nodding. “Please, mama? I be so good.”

“Okay, sweetie, but aunt Robin is working. You have to be a good girl.”

Robin laughs. “Relax. She’s an angel.” she looks over at you and now both of them are begging.

“Okay, alright. Fine. The second I have money again I’ll pay–” you start to tell Robin you’ll pay her but she’s already shaking her head. “You’re not. I wanted to do it.”

“Okay, but.. For whatever reason, she’s attached to your friend. It might get annoying, Robin.” you point out after turning your attention back to the television for a few minutes and having a little more time to think about it. You’re grasping at straws because you’re already seeing Stevie form a little bit of an attachment to Robin’s best friend slash co-worker and you’re just so afraid that sooner or later, the novelty is going to wear off for the guy, leaving your little girl heartbroken and missing something she’s never actually had and most likely never will.

A father.

Robin thinks what you’ve just said is hilarious and she’s doubled over laughing as she pauses to look at you and shake her head. “You don’t know Steve. Trust me. This will not get annoying for him. And anyway,” Robin rolls onto her stomach and looks at you, “He likes her.”

“Yeah. Now, in theory, when he only has to deal with her a few minutes here and a few there. A whole day with her underfoot is different.” you take a deep breath. “I’m just..”

“I get it. You don’t want Stevie to get too attached.” Robin mumbles quietly, nodding in agreement. “You need the job, right?”

“Well, yeah, I’d like to find an apartment sooner or later. I’d like to be able to do things for Stevie..” you trail off, letting the rest of your sentence go unsaid. Because Robin knows exactly how awful your mom was now, the two of you had a really long talk recently. You finally told her everything that’s been going on, full honesty. Instead of letting her believe everything was fine like you’d done before.

Robin nods. A grim look on her face as she shakes her head. “I wish you’d told me and Mom everything way sooner.”

“I didn’t want you guys to worry.” you answer, going quiet. “Okay, alright. Don’t let her annoy him, please?” you give Robin a pleading look and Robin nods. “I’m telling you though,” she insists, “Stevie is not annoying to him. Like… not even a little.”

“Robin.” you laugh and shake your head. “He’s probably got an image or something.”

“Yeah, as a giant dingus.” Robin states, laughing. “I know what you’re thinking. Just stop overthinking already, okay? Steve Harrington is a good guy. He’s not going to treat her like dirt because she’s three.”

You blow at damp strands as they fall down into your eyes. “I just.. She’s never really like.. Attached herself to a person like this before.”

“Could have everything to do with her mommy being stingy.” Robin teases gently, laughing as she looks up at you. Stevie wanders back in with a yogurt cup and spoon. Robin reaches out, pulling her up before you even get the chance. “Guess what, sparkles?”

“Yeah?”

“Your mom finally gave in. We win. You can come to work with me tomorrow.” Robin and Stevie share a laugh and Robin takes Stevie’s spoon and takes a bite of yogurt for herself. “We can watch movies all day.”

“Yay!” Stevie claps her hands together in excitement. “Will my fwiend be there?”

Robin laughs softly. You tense up slightly. Look at your daughter with a soft smile as you warn, “Sweetie, you don’t need to bother him too much, okay?”

“Otay.” Stevie nods. But she has no intention of listening because she likes being around Steve. He’s nice. Really nice. And he gives her piggyback rides sometimes. He tells her stories about dinosaurs and some weird thing called basketball that he used to play and really likes a lot. He showed her how to tie her favorite purple sneaker earlier when he dropped off her aunt Robin after work, because her shoe was untied and he said he didn’t want her to fall on her face.

The morning comes too early. And it’s off to a not so good start. You’re rushing around because you forgot to set an alarm the night before, and the button’s popped off the only ‘suitable’ shirt you own for an interview.

Stevie’s missing her shoe and she can’t find her current favorite stuffed animal, a stuffed husky that Robin won out of the claw machine outside of Big Buy when they went in to pick up groceries for your aunt Janet. So she’s upset. Robin spots the shoe and holds it up. “Aha! I knew it was in here somewhere!”

“Fank you!” Stevie throws her arms around Robin’s neck. Robin grabs the hair brush from her dresser and motions for Stevie to sit in front of her. You laugh. “She’s tender-headed.” you warn as you flip over your own hair and try to make something out of the wild and thick mess of curls you have going on now, no thanks to your old reliable blow dryer quitting earlier. You’re in the midst of scrunching your hair to create a more defined curl pattern when Stevie wanders over, bending down to look up at you through a curtain of hair. “Mama! Mama, your skirt dirty.”

“Shit.” you say it without stopping to think and just as Stevie looks as if she’ll repeat it, you tack on quickly, “Mommy didn’t mean t’ say that, cupcake. You’re still a baby. That’s an adult word.”

“I know.” Stevie answers, giggling. “It sound funny.”

“It’s not, though.” you smile at your daughter and laugh softly. “You’ll let your aunt Robin braid your hair but you won’t let me? I might cry.”

“Don’t, mama. It’s just aunt Wobin do it better!”

You pout a little, flipping your hair over to stand and look in the mirror. Robin notices the stain on your skirt too and nods to your aunt’s room across the hall. “My mom’s got a suit or something? I think?”

You nod. After digging through your suitcase, you happen to find a modest -and totally shapeless, t shirt style black dress, you grab that and rush down the hall into the bathroom of the trailer to change. 

“This looks like I’m wearing a trash bag. If I wind up working at this place I’m gonna have to get dressier stuff.” you wrinkle your nose at the thought. Because it’s money you don’t want to have to spend, but if you could luck into getting this secretary job, you’d be thrilled because it’ll be more money than you’ve ever made at once before.

And the job actually has insurance.

Robin’s friend Barb pulls to a stop outside and Robin’s giddy, laughing and smiling as if she could float. She drops a quick kiss to Stevie’s head and hugs you, lingering in the doorway. “I’ll see you in a little bit!”

You laugh and nod. “Yeah!”

After Robin’s gone, you scramble some eggs and squeeze an orange to make some juice for Stevie and as she eats ketchup covered scrambled eggs and a piece of fried ham, you try to finish getting ready.

You hate the shapeless dress, it’s one of your least favorite articles of clothing and even adding a belt to it doesn’t do anything to make it look better. You laugh at yourself in your cousin’s full length mirror on the back of her closet door and you toss the belt at your open suitcase on the bed. “Just get it over with. You’re probably not getting the job anyway, they said you were a risk to hire.”

Stevie’s sitting on the floor watching you. “We go, mama?”

“Yeah, we should get going,cupcake. Turn off the tv.”

Stevie pushes the button to turn off the television atop the dresser at the foot of Robin’s bed and you scoop her up,carrying her out. As the two of you walk out of the trailer, the girl with red hair is outside skateboarding again.

Stevie gives her a wave and the redhead waves back, quick to turn back to her skateboarding. The muscular blond with the mullet is leaned in the open door again, you can feel him staring. When he grins at you, cigarette smoke billowing out of his mouth, you manage a stiff wave and turn your attention to getting Stevie fastened into her car seat.

It’s a hard pass on the guy for you. He’s exactly the type of guy who fathered Stevie when you were 17. You are not going down that road again. And as you slip into the driver seat, a thought pops up out of nowhere. Surprises you a little when it does.

,, he’s not as handsome as Steve Harrington, either.” and as soon as this thought rises, you’re quick to shove it back down.

He’s definitely not an option.. You know, if you were even considering anything. The last thing any guy your age is going to want is to get a package deal and you’re just not willing to settle for anybody who won’t love and cherish your little girl as much as you do.

As you drive into town, you hum along with the radio, watch as the tree lined blacktop turns to buildings and houses. You pull to a stop in the parking lot of Family Video right around the same time that Robin and her friend Barb are pulling to a stop. You watch as Barb leans in closer to your cousin and you smile softly to yourself.

Robin mentioned someone in her letters around Valentines Day. You’re wondering if Barb might be the girl she mentioned. You hope so, because the way Barb looks at your cousin when she’s not looking is the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen with your own eyes, hands down. Robin spots you as the two pull away from their super close conversation and she grins brightly, waving.

As Robin and Barb wander over, Stevie’s already grumbling as she fusses with the way her upper harness in the seat likes to hang up. “I just wanna get out! Stupit buckle.” as she fumes and keeps trying to work with it, you lean over and unfasten it. Gently caressing her chubby little cheeks as you look into big brown eyes. “Mama will be back later to get you, alright? Be a good girl for aunt Robin.” you go quiet, adding a second later, “And don’t bother Steve so much when he’s working, please?”

“But mama..”

“Stevie Robin..” you using her first and middle name has the  desired effect, but she’s pouting and not happy about it. “Otay! I try not to bother him! But if he wants t’ play, I not stop him.”

You laugh softly and press a kiss to her hairline. As Robin opens the door and scoops up Stevie, she’s laughing. “Ready for a big adventure, sparkles?”

“Uh-huh!” she laughs and smiles, hugging against Robin. One of her braids is already trying to come undone. You smile at Barb. She smiles back as she reaches for the old backpack you use to keep everything Stevie needs inside when you have to leave her with sitters and you fight down the usual guilt that comes rushing up when you’re thinking about just how well used that backpack is by now and how it means you hardly get to spend any time with your daughter like you always dreamed you would when you were little.

The time your own mother refused to spend with you.. Unless, of course, she took you along with her to try and ply single men by playing the single mom who needs sooooo much help card. 

“She’ll be fine, ___.” Robin’s gentle teasing and the reassuring grin she gives you has you nodding. Smiling at her even though leaving Stevie with them while you go off for an interview is the last thing you want to be doing.

You’d rather be spending all day with your little girl. Making a blanket fort in the living room of your house. Making crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as you both lie around, you reading her book of Grimms fairytales to her. Cuddling. Until the man you love comes in from work, where you’d have a nice home cooked meal, not something frozen or canned or even burned beyond recognition.. The life you didn’t have and always longed for as a kid.

,, you really need to accept the fact that this is your reality. Unless you want to turn into her, parading an endless string of faceless and nameless ‘uncles’ in and out of your life, always leaving you hurt and confused when they were gone and she was mean and bitter all over again.” the thought comes and you shove it out.

You watch as the three of them disappear into the video store, door banging shut behind them. And then you put your car into drive and pull out, merging with traffic. Journey is playing on the radio so you hum along and you hope it’ll distract you from a full to bursting mind. You’re just focused on doing your absolute best at this interview. Because you have to get money coming in somehow.

Steve’s flipping through the channels on the old tv set that sits down on the counter out of sight. His legs are reclined and he’s just.. Fighting the urge to pass out from exhaustion.

To say sleeping through a full night since March has been a struggle would be a gross understatement. It’s been literal hell on Earth for him because every time he starts to doze, he can feel the earth rumbling beneath him. The sensation of free falling and then a hard thud as he connects with solid. And then he can hear Vecna’s evil laugh all over again. The way Vecna forced him to watch his worst fears and deepest secrets play out in front of him just to torture him. He had to watch everyone move on and leave him behind. He had to watch as his parents just went on with life as normal after his ‘death’, totally unaffected. He had to hear every single dark thing he’s ever thought or felt but never given a voice to, on repeat. 

It’s not until his alarm’s going off every morning that the torment stops as Comfortably Numb starts to play and brings him rushing out, into another long day.

It was the same this morning and yet somehow, it wasn’t. Because Robin let it slip that Stevie was going to spend the day with them while you were interviewing at one of the offices in town for a secretary position. And somehow, knowing the little girl was going to be around to distract him all day just made things a little better.

She’s eating gummy bears that Robin and Barb stopped at the gas station in town to buy her as she makes her way over to him and motions for him to pick her up. “Tell me more about baske..About the game.” Stevie asks, holding out her bag of gummy bears to Steve as she smiles. “I wanna play too.”

Steve chuckles.

“Hang on, little bit.” he reaches for the remote, “Maybe there’s a warm up game on or a replay.” he flips through stations until he finds the channel he’s looking for. “That’s basketball.” he nods to a replay of an old Bulls game. “I used to play in high school.”

Stevie’s eyes fix on the television and she holds the bag out to him again. Steve takes a handful of gummy bears and pops them into his mouth as he arranges Stevie on his lap a little better. 

As this is happening, Barb nudges Robin. “I never thought I’d see this happen.”

Robin laughs softly and nods. “Me either. From what __ has told me, Stevie doesn’t meet strangers though.” she shrugs, “Does he seem off to you too lately? And it’s gotten a little more obvious since Nance and Jonathan left town.” 

“It has.” Barb admits, leaning against Robin slightly. Not enough to be obvious or invateRobin’s personal space but enough that she can feel the slight weight of the other girl and just..be close.

She wishes she could be so much closer. But she doesn’t know how to even begin telling her.

Robin feels her cheeks burn at the slightest hint of contact and she bites back the smallest whimper threatening to break free. She forces herself to pull together and calls out to get Steve’s attention. “Dingus, don’t get her into sports!”

“Looks fun!” Stevie is grinning and she’s turned herself to face Steve. “Open your mouth.” Steve opens his mouth as the little girl’s asked and Stevie tries to toss a bear in but she misses. The blue gummy bear settles on the front of his new polo shirt and he picks it off, eating it.

The bell over the  door jingles and Robin glances over to see who it is.

“Harrington! Yo! Dude!” Billy’s calling out Steve’s name as he wanders the aisles to search for his former enemy turned friend. He finally gives up the search and stops in front of Robin and Barb. “Either of you seen Steve or do I need t’ go over and drag his broody ass outta bed again?”

“Right here, Hargrove, jesus.” Steve speaks up. Billy nearly chokes on the gum he’s chewing as he sees Steve sitting behind the counter with the cute little 3 year old daughter of the hot mom living across from him and his stepsister and her mom in Forest Hills. “You stealin kids now, Harrington?”

“I came t’ him.” Stevie sasses, leaning in against Steve just a little. Steve laughs and shrugs. Robin speaks up. “Yeah, he stole her from me! It took two hours to convince her mom I’d be able to watch her today when she went in for the interview. He’s had her since Barb and I got here.”

“You get her all the time, Robbie.”

“And? She’s my sparkles.” Robin argues back with Steve playfully. Billy chuckles. When he spots the game on tv he laughs to himself. “Girls don’t like that sh–”

“Mama said that’s adult word.” Stevie warns, giving Billy a very stern little look. Billy snickers. “It is, huh?”

“Mhm.”

Steve looks up at Billy. “She wanted to watch it, actually.”

“I did!”

“Anyway, what’d you want?”

“You’re comin with me tonight, dude. Munson’s band’s having a gig at the new bar. Told him we’d go.”

“I don’t have a choice, do I?”

“Fuck no. No you don’t, Harrington. I’ve got tomorrow off, I’m not gonna waste th’ night sober.”

Steve grumbles but shrugs. “Not like anything else is going on. Okay, fine.”

“I guess you can drive the Camaro because I’m not gonna be seen in the grandma mobile.” Billy smirks, he’s purposely being a shit now, hoping that maybe if he just keeps treating Steve like the way he treated ‘old Steve’ it’ll eventually piss Harrington enough to bring out just a little of the fight and spunk that’s been gone completely since March.

He’s really worried about Steve. He figured him out fairly easy right after he hit Hawkins their senior year. So he knows that walking out of the station with Eddie to his waiting car after everything played out in March.. Seeing the girl he wanted to be with more than anything reunite with a guy she claimed she ‘wasn’t sure about anymore’ when they looked like they’d reconnect. Billy knows this killed Steve.

And then there’s the whole Vecna thing, something Steve absolutely refuses to talk about with anyone. Even Robin, his best friend.

Billy just doesn’t want to see Steve go down the path he’s been down already.

“You loud.” Stevie mutters, giving Billy a dirty look as she leans against Steve’s chest and nods to the little television set. “We watch baske..” she gives up, “the ball game.” and Steve chuckles.

“Bas-ket-ball. C’mon, try it.”

“It’s big word! I 3.”

“And you’re really smart for 3, Stevie. C’mon, try it.” Steve coaxes.

With a little grumbling, he gets her to attempt sounding out the whole word. When she finally says it, she’s laughing and smiling, clapping chubby little hands together. “I said it! Aunt Wobin! I said it!”

Steve laughs. “You did.”

Billy snickers. “Try this one, shortstuff.. C-a-m-a-r-o.”

Stevie gives him a blank look and places a hand on her hip. “What that?”

Billy gestures to his haphazardly parked car outside the store and grins proudly. “The best car ever.”

“Uh uh! My mama’s car is best.”

Robin and Barb laugh. “Oooh.. a three year old just burned you, Hargrove.” Barb taunts and Robin laughs, " How'd that feel, Billy?"

“Shut it, both of y." Billy grumbles. "I'll be over at 9, Harrington. You're going if I have t' drag you."

"I said I'd go. Jesus." Steve gives Billy a dirty look. The guy has gotten it in his head lately that he's gonna make it his daily goal to find ways to annoy Steve.

Billy leaves and Stevie scowls at the door before looking up at Steve. "He's loud. It scare me."

Steve smoothes a hand over her hair. "He does, huh?" he looks down at Stevie and smiles, "I'll tell him to calm down, 'kay?"

"Fank you. I gonna go to aunt Wobin now. But I come right back." Stevie slips off his lap and makes her way over, instantly picked up by Robin. As she sees the movie Gremlins, she reaches for it and Robin laughs. "Sparkles, they don't stay fluffy the whole movie."

"Why not?"

"Because someone fed them after midnight." Barb answers, laughing. "Did you get tired of watching the basketball game, bub?"

"No. Just wanted to come t' you for a while."

The afternoon is dragging by for him. Hardly anyone's come in since 9 that morning and the pattern seems destined to continue. Then there's a steady drizzle from a surprise afternoon storm as the rain drops pitter patter against the stores tin sheet roofing. Robin and Barb went to get the four of them some lunch and Steve flips the sign on the door from open to closed.

Stevie is asleep in his chair at the circular desk, huddled into a jacket he kept in back in case the store got too cold. The bag of gummy bears is dangling from her fingertips and about to settle on the floor when he decides maybe she'd be more comfortable on the couch in the office besides the break room.

But he's so damn tired, the 2 to 3 hours he's been getting a night since late March, those are catching up to him. He tells himself he'll just sit there and read a magazine while she naps but it turns into him laying down too, on the opposite side of the couch. And at some point, Stevie wakes up, comes over to where he's laying and crawls onto the couch with him, laying on his chest with her little arms around his neck.

This is how they're still sleeping when Barb and Robin come back a few minutes later. Barbs the one to find them and with a finger to her lips, she gestures for Robin to come to the door of the office. Robin peers in over Barb's shoulder, smiling to herself.

"Hang on. I actually think I have my camera with me out in the car." Barb hurries out to go get the camera and Robin stands in thr doorway watching the two of them sleeping on the old leather sofa. "___ is totally wrong in thinking Stevie is going to annoy Steve and I think this is exactly what he needs right now."

After Barb takes the picture, she and Robin decide to put the fast food they picked up for Steve and Stevie into the microwave and just let them sleep.

You make your way in, a brow raised at the silence. You're still processing the fact that somehow, you impressed the office interviewing you so much that you got the job. Robin grabs your wrist and practically pulls you to the office in back so you can see the way Steve and Stevie are sleeping on the couch.

"I hope she didn't bother him all day."

"She didn't. They crashed while we went to pick up food. Steve hasn't been sleeping at all and I think Stevie playing with Will when he came in with the other kids earlier tired her right out." Robin smiles, "by the way, Steve's kids have adopted her.. well, Max, she's still warming up to her but..pretty sure if you want a sitter all you have to do is say so."

"Steve's kids?" you question, brow raised. This leads to Barb and Robin sitting you down in the little break room and as they tell you everything, from the start to what’s only just come to a close -hopefully for good, as of March, you're gaping. “You..He.. Oh my god, why did nobody stop it? Like.. they had to know, right?” you’re looking at your cousin in concern and if you thought Robin Buckley  was a badass before, you really believe it now. Because all she does is shrug it off as if it were nothing. 

"The running joke is that Steve's kind of adopted them all..because we've been through so much." Robin goes quiet. Weighing how much she can tell you without you freaking out on her. Even thinking about the insanity she’s been through the past few years is still a lot for Robin to get her own head around, let alone try explaining it to someone else. 

"Wait..back up." You're trying to process it all, from secret government science labs to these kids -and their teenage counterparts, including Steve and Robin, having to fight as if they were in a war just to save the town. Robin can see you freaking out so she explains quickly, "Billy,Dustin Eddie and Steve saw the portal close because Eddie almost didn't make it up. That nightmare is over now, thank God."

,, well, you think to yourself, now I'm really fucked when it comes to finding a reason, any reason at all to keep from getting feelings for the guy." and of course, this is quickly overruled by one thought.

He's in the prime of his life. He probably wants to enjoy that. He probably doesn't want you and all your baggage plus your daughter. And thankfully, this is just enough, for now, to keep you from letting yourself get in too deep. 

Steve wanders in with Stevie on his hip and his hair sticking up everywhere. Stevie has never liked waking up before she's ready so she's got her sour face on. Steve hasn't said a word to anybody, he possibly hasn't noticed the three of you sitting at the table in the break room or the way you're staring hard right now yet.

He heats up Stevies food and then his own and when he turns around, he finds himself being watched intently by the three of you.

You smile at your daughter. Everything Robin's just gone into detail to tell you comes rushing back and in light of it, you decide that maybe he needs this. Maybe it's okay to let her seek him out until he says otherwise.

"Did you have a nap, cupcake?"

Stevie is still yawning. Steve sits her chicken nuggets down on the table and Stevie climbs into your lap to eat them. "We did, mama! And we watched movies and this boy came and he gived me crayons!" Stevie digs in the old and faded backpack until she finds the crayons that Will gave her earlier.

You laugh softly. 

"How'd the thing..the interview go?" Steve asks, locking eyes with you as he bites into his own double cheeseburger. 

"How did that go?" Robin asks.

" I got the job. And they're willing to let me bring Stevie if I need to." You smile. 

Steve is staring. And as you smile, he feels himself smile too because there is just something beautiful, something contagious about your smile that he can't help but do it too. 

"That's great!"Robin hugs you and you both laugh. 

"I start tomorrow. I'm working in the mornings, so open to 2?" 

You're excited. Maybe everything will finally start to go better for you and your little girl.

“Y/N!” calls George, your husband of six years. “The lads'll be here soon!”

“Alright, love!” is your reply before you go to help your daughter get ready.

You enter the room to find five-year-old Katherine Harrison, who you lovingly refer to as Kitty, playing with a teddy bear.

“Kitty, we need to get changed,” you tell her. “We have company coming over.”

“Is it Uncle Johnny?” she asks excitedly.

You giggle. “Well, he’s one of ‘em. Uncle Paul and Uncle Ritchie as well.”

She squeals with delight and shoots up to change into her favourite outfit.

Richard and Paul arrive together a few moments later.

“Say hello to your uncles, Kitty,” George says.

“Hi, Uncle Paul! Hi, Uncle Ritchie!” she says excitedly. She looks around before asking, “Where’s Uncle Johnny?”

Paul chuckles. “He’s on his way, Kathy.”

She squeals excitedly once more before going to gaze out the window, waiting impatiently for John.

About ten minutes later, a knock sounds at the door. Katherine runs to answer it. “Uncle Johnny!”

“Katherine, you know you’re not supposed to answer the door for strangers,” you scold as you enter the room.

“It’s not a stranger,” she replies. “It’s Uncle Johnny!”

John chuckles and picks her up into a hug. “Hello, my love. You bein’ good for Mummy and Daddy?” She nods and he says, “That’s my good girl. What you been up to?”

“I’m the fastest girl in the schoolyard, Uncle Johnny!” she announces happily.

“Yeah? Can ye show me?”

The girl nods and John puts her back to the floor, where she runs quickly all around the sitting room.

“Wow!” exclaims John. “You’re the fastest girl in the whole world!”

You laugh slightly. “If she keeps this up, I won’t have any trouble getting her to sleep tonight.”

John chuckles.

The group of you have dinner together before you announce, “Say goodnight, Kitty. It’s time for bed.”

“Why?” she whines.

“Because you have school tomorrow.”

“Can Uncle Johnny tuck me in?”

“I’m sure Uncle Johnny can tuck you in some other time.”

“Please?” She sticks her bottom lip out in a pout.

You sigh, defeated, and look over to John, who’s chuckling.

“Go get in your jimjams and get ready for bed, Kitty Kat, and I’ll tuck you in after,” he says.

Katherine runs off with a smile, returning shortly after, wearing pyjamas.

“You brush your teeth?” John asks. When she nods, he continues, “Let Uncle Johnny see.”

The girl flashes a toothy grin. “See?”

John chuckles. “Alright, come on, Kitty Kat. Say goodnight to everyone.”

Katherine bids her goodnight to her other uncles before John picks her up and carries her off to her bedroom.

As he walks off, you hear John say, “You like me too much.”

“No such thing,” she replies.

The rest of you share a small laugh together.

“I have no idea why she’s so smitten with him,” you giggle.

“Probably because he babied you so when you were pregnant,” says George. “He babied you more than I did.”

“Remember the time, I think she was about six months, when John was holdin’ her and she took both her little hands and just grabbed him by the nose?” Richard reminisces.

“I think George had some sort of quip about his nose shape, if I remember correctly,” you recall with a laugh. “Oh, the amount of times she fell asleep on John because she would not stop crying otherwise.”

It’s a few reminiscent stories later when John re-enters the room. “She’s quite a bright girl,” he says, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose. “Says she wants to make music when she grows up, just like Uncle Johnny.”

“She’s never told me that,” George says.

“’course not, she wanted to tell Uncle Johnny first.” John laughs as he sits back down at the table. “I don’t care what you guys think, she’s not allowed to date until she’s thirty-five.”

“I think George agrees with you there,” you say with a laugh.

Yo I kinda feel like Ominis would act like Edward from Twilight at first if he found out MC was pregnant with his daughter. Like he'd be upset at the prospect of the child being a typical Gaunt but then totally fall in love with her and regret his behavior.

I can absolutely see this and this has the potential for S tier angst.

under a cut because I just started like rambling my speculations and also bc mentions of pregnancy and childbirth.

I'm not going to lie my brain immediately went to Ominis trying to bite the baby out of MC like Edward did with Bella but clearly that wouldn't be the issue (I hope?????)

The pregnancy announcement would come as a massive shock to Ominis, and I can really see him distancing himself from MC as a form of self-preservation and in his mind it's also protecting MC from himself and his bloodline. He really feels as though he's got tainted blood, and all of his family's bullshit will get passed on to his child. It brings back a lot of his childhood trauma, and he spends the first like 7 months of MC pregnancy having horrible nightmares of his past. He still loves MC, and he still treats her with respect and cares for her but he’s a lot more quiet and he seems to be keeping her at an arm’s length. They talk a lot about his family and his emotions, MC is trying to be as supportive as possible but Ominis is a stubborn bastard and also super cynical so the conversations kind of just go in circles.

MC is understandably devastated by his reaction and is depressed as hell. She's scared too, she's the one growing a whole ass human inside of her, and she does understand Ominis' reservations about passing down his gene-pool to a child, but she's adamant that they will be loving parents who teach their children empathy and respect. She reminds Ominis constantly that he is nothing like his family and there's no reason to expect their children to be any different than him.

Towards the end of the pregnancy though, Ominis feels the baby kicking one night, and he just kind of makes a surprised pikachu face. He talks to MC's belly sometimes at night when he thinks MC is sleeping - she's listening the whole time - and he basically just asks the child to treat MC with respect and to not hurt her too much and he confesses to the baby how scared he is about who they will be and he’s scared that his family will find them and feel entitled to the baby. Sometimes MC has to get up when he’s fallen asleep to go cry lol.

When MC finally delivers the baby, which tbh yeah it's gonna be a girl - Ominis is such girl dad material it's not even funny - he is so immediately whipped. From the first second he hears her cries, he would do anything for her. He realizes she’s a vulnerable tiny little thing that needs to be cared for, and gods be praised does he care for her. He's so sweet with his daughter, playing with her and reading to her and transfiguring things for her. He charms some gold butterflies to flutter over the crib.

Ominis and MC would wait until their baby was much more grown to let her know about Ominis' family - she'd rebel against it until she saw Merope and Morfin Gaunt one day in Little Hangleton while trying to find her father's family and just nopes right out of that one.

The baby would look like him. Eldest daughter looking like her dad trope af. His hair, his nose, but MC's smile. She would share a lot of personality traits with MC, except she's got Ominis' sarcastic humour and his penchant for transfiguration. Not interested much in combat, thinks DADA is cool but doesn't love it.

Anne would be the first person to meet the baby outside of MC's parents/siblings if they're involved in MC life. After Anne, it's Poppy and Natty, and then finally Sebastian comes and meets his niece (in this world they've all made up! thanks!).

By all means if he wants to step away from music go ahead. I support him and I think he should be able to do as he pleases career wise. He shouldn’t be tied down to one thing forever. All artists grow and flourish. For example Rihanna and its Fenty beauty and Savage lingerie. Beyoncé with hair care and clothing. Lizzo with workout gear. 50 with movies and shows. I think he should be able to move in and do other and possibly bigger things that he sees for weather that be Moms spaghetti, production, or merch. But if he wants to do merch he needs to step it tf up. Because it’s all the same and it’s getting boring. Do a real menswear like. Do some new hat brand. Or focus on expanding his Resturant or team up with 50 for moves and shows or even put MORE energy into his record label because it could use it if he wants to do producing and not necessarily rapping on the mic.

And yea, he should hear his fans out. They are a big pet as to why he’s here and thriving. And no offense but especially the younger ones now. He had a whole new generation listening to him. As for footnote, I heard that Paul wanted him to do it because Paul’s SON plays the game and he got the idea from that so they r ached out to fortnite… but Paul isn’t Marshall. Why does he have to collab with Fortnite because of your son and you think it’s a good money maker? Marshall doesn’t belong in a kids game period. If anything they should’ve tried to get him to voice in GTA6 or have his music in the game somehow… that would been HUGE for him considering the gta situation with him from back in the day.

Just going off of where we left the characters in season six, I think there *has* to be a Madney wedding for the fans' enjoyment, of course, but also because...it's one thing we know hasn't been done with their story yet. They've been through a pregnancy. Welcomed a daughter into the world. Broke up. Got back together. Bought a house "Resolved" family tensions. Got engaged. Chim had a(nother) close call, though not as serious as dying at the hands of Jonah (and coming back to life). What else has to be crossed off the list, right? Maybe we'll get lucky and have some kind of trouble for Maddie before the wedding (Jennifer says she's in the mood for more drama!) which would make the big day all the more rewarding. I originally went with the same thought as you regarding the 100th episode, but it would be the first time a wedding happens midseason instead of part of a finale (Bathena in 2x18 and Henren in 5x18), so I'm not sure they're going to change the formula for this one. Plus, if there IS any kind of problem pre-wedding, it makes sense for Tim to let it play out in the first 9 episodes (whenever it starts) and have the tenth be the "it was worth the wait" moment. TBH, the more important question to me is whether we do actually get to SEE everything or if it'll be condensed to accommodate other stuff. Both weddings we've watched fall into that category. Here's hoping we aren't three-for-three. 🙃

Honestly, it depends on your tolerance and attachment to the characters.

I'm going to spoil a bunch of stuff so if you want my spoiler-free tl;dr: the second series might be worth it. Mileage may vary. The first is absolutely not--just read a summary. Recommendations for Jason reading in the last couple paragraphs of the post!

The first series centers around Jason, Roy Harper/Arsenal, and Koriand'r/Starfire.

The characterization isn't great. Jason gets dumbed down, makes some off-color jokes, and feels like he's just an "edgey protagonist". Basically a mouthpiece for Lobdell and Lobdell is a sack of shit.

The characterization of Roy Harper is...not great. It's not necessarily inaccurate, but it's honestly only accurate for early Roy Harper. Like, decades and decades of character regression. They also in New 52 changed his backstory like...a decent amount. Like, I think initially his Navajo heritage was removed? And then it was made that he might have accidentally killed his Navajo foster father while drunk??? It's yikes. They also changed his self-destructive weapon of choice from heroin to alcohol. And removed that he was pretty much fully recovered from addiction and actually spent a lot of time volunteering to help people struggling with addiction. It also very much removes how close he was with Dick Grayson. They grew up together, formed the Teen Titans together. They were tight. Dick actually helped Roy through a relapse, was one of the few who would help him. And the biggest issue? The lack of Lian. Lian caused a huge change in Roy's behavior. Before Lian, he was, tbh, a fuckboy. But pretty much as soon as he learned about his daughter, he single-mindedly tried to retrieve her from her mother and was the best father he could have possibly been while being a vigilante (ignoring Devin Grayson's Arsenal run where he let Lian play with guns wtf). Everything he did, even in part the people he saw, was connected to Lian. She was his entire world. And y'know what? Jason was present--as Robin!--when Roy learned he was a father. And that's never mentioned.

As for Kory, it is absolutely awful. They give her gnat-like memory and face-blindness and make her hypersexual. Kory has never been a prude, but she's also a romantic, not one to just sleep around, and they made her pretty much all about sex. It also changed her backstory and made her more...angry. Kory has always been a being of emotion and is prone to righteous rage, but she was never fueled by anger the way she could be in RHATO. It also almost completely--and this seems to be the trend!--erases her relationship with Dick Grayson! Which is probably her most important relationship period, just maybe edged out by her relationship with Raven or Donna. Barely. And she has completely forgotten all of them. It's incredibly dumb.

The New 52 as a whole, is godawful with a handful of exceptions. You're better off reading the summaries.

The second series swaps out those two for Artemis Grace of Bana-Mighdall and Bizarro Superman. It is overall marginally better...at first.

Artemis is also sexualized, and there ends up being a somewhat-forced romance between her and Jason. Could there be excellent chemistry between them? Yeah. But she suffers from "Men Writing What He Thinks is a Powerful Woman" Syndrome. She's not awful, though. She's wlw, very much in love with her deceased childhood best friend that she essentially had to kill because she lost her shit. She also does not take Jason's shit and it can occasionally be funny to watch them interact.

Bizzaro is incredibly difficult to fuck up. He's (initially) got toddler-level intellect. He speaks like a caveman. "Me am Bizzaro", y'know. Then he nearly dies and Lex Luthor manages to save him but he's temporarily a super-genius, which isn't...too bad. But then he's essentially made an addict to synthetic Kryptonite, which he literally bathes in like a Lazarus Pit like???? It's bad. And then when he finally stops being a genius, it gets worse. Like...ugh. But Jason's relationship with Bizzaro is actually sweet; it's compared to Jason being a big brother to him. He literally starts their relationship telling him everything's gonna be okay, and then buys him a stuffed Superman doll that Bizzaro names Pup Pup (mimicking Superman's "Up up and away" thing) and it's really cute.

Under the second RHATO run umbrella is Red Hood: Outlaw, which is Jason going solo for a bit. I wanna talk about that, but first I really need to talk about the ooc trauma conga line that came just before it.

So, Jason just found letters Ma Gunn had kept that Jason's dad had sent him from prison. It's a whole thing. But through this, Jason learns that his father was put away not for any of the awful shit he actually did, but as a fall guy for the Penguin. And Jason kinda...loses it. He hunts Penguin down, reveals his identity, and shoots him point blank in the face.

(Don't worry he got better)

But we all know how Bruce feels about people killing in his city. He has been allowing Jason to operate in Gotham, despite his general disapproval, so long as he doesn't kill anyone. And Jason almost killed the Penguin, and definitely tried to.

Bruce Wayne's parenting skills vary wildly between writers. Some people making him a loving and affectionate, if emotionally stunted, parent. Some make him emotionally and physically abusive. He has, admittedly, hit his children before. It varies widely enough that I think it equally valid to say he's a good parent or a bad parent due to your personal canon. But what happens here is out of character despite even that, because the one constant is he always loves them.

The Goddamn Batman hunts down Jason and very much brutalizes him. Like, punches him hard enough to break his helmet. Like, completely shattering the front of it so you can see Jay's whole fucking face. He's yelling about how if Jason left it would be his own choice and not Bruce's, and saying shit like "No more Red Hood!" and it's...disgusting. Really bad.

Jason manages to get away long enough to discover that his HQ is falling apart. It's kinda complicated, but basically to save them and entire Gotham block, Bizzaro drags their HQ into another dimension, and Artemis goes after him. So, Jason just lost two more good friends. (for note: he hasn't heard from Kory since RHATO, and he quite literally broke up with Roy at the end of Red Hood/Arsenal, "it's not you it's me" speech and all, and the most he's heard from him is second-hand from Waylon Jones aka Killer Croc who is his addiction recovery sponsor like????) And then Bruce does the thing where he appears behind you. And he proceeds to attack Jason again.

Out of nowhere a savior arrives: Roy Harper! He has a knockout gas arrow that knocks them out and carries Jason to safety.

He takes Jason back to the island they stayed with with Kory as Outlaws and helps with his recovery, and Roy lets Jason in on a drug trafficking case he's been working. Partway through, Roy goes separate ways from Jason because he's going to "superhero rehab". Jason teases him but is supportive, and they go separate ways.

And then Roy fucking dies at Sanctuary because Heroes in Crisis was even worse than RHATO!

You know who comes to tell Jason that Roy's dead?

Bruce.

Their whole interaction is actual fucking bullshit. Not because what is written itself is bad, but in the context of their last interaction it rings hollow and disgusting. They hug. Like??? That is so fucking tone deaf I can't even--

Jason just lost Ma Gunn (who's missing), Bizzaro, Artemis, Bruce, Gotham, and possibly the rest of his family. And then Roy on top of that who he has not one, but two series with establishing their closeness. And Roy died, as Jason says, somewhere he was supposed to be safe. He actually calls Roy's phone and leaves a message that starts with "Hey, it's me. Jaybird." This man pretended he hated that nickname; he once told Roy to "choose between Jaybird and your trachea. You can't have both." and like--fucking ow. Throughout the rest of RHATO, it is repeatedly brought up how effected Jason is by Roy's death.

(Which makes me even more mad when he comes back to life and doesn't fucking tell him like??? Fuck the people writing Roy rn let him go back to Gotham and find Jason and Lian I am begging)

But other than that, the earlier part of Red Hood: Outlaw is pretty good. Funny enough, the time that it's good is pretty much the duration of Dog's appearance. It's honestly coincidental, but she does make everything better. But Jason kind of does what he initially planned to do! He's practically running crime in Gotham from the Iceberg Lounge, which he stole from Penguin! He's a semi-legitimate business owner! And the art is still decent there, and damn, boy looks good in a suit.

After the departure of Jason from Gotham (and Dog from the comic :( ), is an era called Generation Outlaw. It's written sooooo bad. Jason accepts a teaching job from Lex Luthor to train the next generation of supervillains. Like??? The premise itself sucks.

The kids are worse.

First off, the art is ugly. Second, only two of them have actual names. The rest are only known by their "villain" names.

One of them is literally a genius baby and her zombie "mom". She has no actual name, just "Baby in Arms" and "Mombie". Dumb as shit.

What really gets under my skin is DNA. DNA is referred to as nonbinary. What's the problem? Well first of all, it keeps being brought up, like it's one of their 2 personality traits. The other? They literally identify as a multiplicity rather than a singularity. Like, they refer to themself as "we" and "us". This is first of all, annoying, and second of all, reinforces the trope of enbies being amorphous inhumans. I hate it and I hate them. (However at least Jason treats them with moderate respect unlike Roy who repeatedly misgenders Stitch in Titans Academy and god do I hate that characterization of Roy)

And it just goes further down the drain from there.

Honestly, if you want Jason content that's not Death in the Family, Lost Days, Hush, or Under the Hood, (cuz they're all old and technically a different continuity, sort of, it's complicated) Batman: Urban Legends is where to look, followed by Task Force Z (though maybe read the run-up to it which is in Detective Comics 1042 I think? there's a few issues). They both have pretty good grip on Jason's character. It reinforces his anger, his general emotional-ness, and his empathy. It also reinforces that he's intelligent, clever, and plays dirty. And it finally tries to address the distance between him and the Bat-Family, which is entirely Bruce's fault. And it makes his vow to not kill based on his own moral choice rather than appeasing Bruce! And it's not that he thinks killing is wrong, but that he's faced with the fact that even killing the scum of the earth can have innocent collateral. It's so good.

He's also in a few crossovers with his family, like when all the Robins show up in Robin to catch Damian, it's great. Robin as a series is pretty great actually. And before that I'm pretty sure he appears in Joker War. I think specifically in issues of Nightwing. Jason is also in Batman Secret Files: Clownhunter, and in the 2017 Talent Showcase has a story where he's training Duke Thomas.

Also if you don't mind Elseworlds, Wayne Family Adventures on Webtoon is honestly so good and it does Jason great justice. He is a dramatic bitch, a book nerd, makes jokes about his death while also demonstrating accurate trauma from dying, and due to the premise being essentially Slice of Life, he can have actual healthy relationships with his family and it's so cute. Also Alfred's there and alive which is always a bonus.

But yeah. RHATO is kinda yikes.

It's been while, let's catch up!

The last time I made one of these posts when January 2022 and I had just moved back to Ohio, which is crazy its already been almost 2 years since I've been back in Ohio already.

Let's see...I'm back working at Walmart but I'm in the vision center, working on getting my optician's license. I got my job back at Walmart in February of 2022 but I was stocking grocery, which I really didn't like tbh lol but then the vision center manager asked if I wanted a spot she had open to help direct patient's where to go and help clean, etc. I said yes and I ended up really enjoying it up there and eventually that led to me becoming an apprentice optician and working toward my license. There's a test I have to take to get my license and I've been studying for that...so that's been fun.

I've also started writing again. Not for Sims stories unfortunately but I've been working on two books. I have one that I've been wanting to finish since I was 15 (I'm about to be 30 next month, which is also crazy). And I have one that is a newer idea that I got inspired to write from a couple book series I've read. I'm hoping I'll hold onto this inspiration for awhile and actually finish these stories...but we'll see lol

Since this is a Sims blog I'll update on that too...I haven't played in the past few weeks, mostly because I've been reading or writing in my free time. I do have a current household that I've been enjoying though. With Horse Ranch coming out, I recreated Lucas Benson (different last name this time though), a Sim I loved in Sims 3 and have tried multiple times to recreate in Sims 4 but those recreations never stuck. But I realized what was missing...horses, lol. The original Lucas from Sims 3 was a horse rancher. I like this version of Lucas though. He is married and has a daughter, as well as 2 horses and a dog. I was doing a sort of rags to riches style story with them so that's been keeping me entertained.

I think that's all the major things I wanted to say? At least for now.

I don't post on here anymore but maybe one day I will again. We'll see.

I had no idea (but am not surprised) that they did a radio drama, but I clearly remember episodes where Jessie spends time with her mom, at least the one where they're trapped in the mountains (Todd Snap/Articuno arc ish thing in the Indigo League season) and she makes "snow rolls" (sp?) Which were just balls of snow with syrup on top to resemble (onigiri?) And you hear Jessie's mom's voice but dont see her?

Like, Jessie's outside playing (this is all a flashback to when she was grade school age) in the snow, and her mom calls her inside to eat the snow rolls (bc they're too poor to buy real food etc).

I'm 1000% not denying your info on the radio drama but I REALLY want to believe Miyamoto got to go home and visit her daughter sometime, or all this took place before she went to go find Mew!!!

I just remember that part of the episode so clearly. Anyway, thank you so much again. you're correct, but you're conflating a few episodes as one haha. the snap/articuno arc actually happens in mid-johto, though todd does show up for a few episodes at the end of indigo too. you're thinking of snow way out which is an early/mid indigo league episode where ash & co & team rocket all end up caught in a blizzard in the mountains. it technically doesn't have an "official" place in the timeline because of porygon airdate fuckup shenanigans, but ash's charmander is still a charmander so we can place it pretty early in indigo league.

it's completely up to interpretation who jessie's caretaker in that episode is tho. in the original japanese she doesn't say anything about it being her mom, the dub just added that, so it's only dub canon. and even then, jessie was in and out of foster care her whole life, so she might just be referring to a foster mom as 'mom.' the rocket fandom's take on it usually skews toward the latter, but there is absolutely nothing that really contradicts it being miyamoto either. it could've been right before she left on her mission to find mew.

the radio drama does pretty firmly establish that once miyamoto left she was gone for the next 20 years, though. she either got trapped out there in the elements, chose not to go home until she could show proof of mew, or flatout just refused to return emptyhanded because she might've been scared of what team rocket would do to her. but i mean. i have many headcanons about where she might've gone AFTER those 20 years. what situations could crop up. hell i wrote a fic where jessie accidentally happened upon the audio of her reports, i think about it constantly tbh.

I finished COS and I started POA. I wanted to write up some COS thoughts but it's been a few days now so I losing some details. It's not as tightly written as SS imo, and mostly that's bc jkr struggled with reintroducing key elements from SS. She's doing much better with that in POA, where instead of a couple of sentences, she'll use a few words. it's understandable why she has to do it, these books need to stand alone.

COS was a lot of fun to return to bc it was always my least favorite so I didn't reread it much. I wouldn't be surprised if I only reread it once, but I honestly can't remember. It was chockablock full of details I could not have told you before listening to it. It was also lacking details I thought were in it probably because of the movies, which is also interesting bc I have not watched the movies often, and especially not the first two. I wouldn't be surprised if the last time I watched COS was in theaters when it came out lol. Ron never makes fun of Hermione for turning into a cat, that must have been in the movie. Moaning Myrtle does though, she's real rude about it lol.

The chamber of secrets is sufficiently creepy. One thing I noticed is once Riddle is on the scene, it sounded like the writing tightened and whimsy was dropped, i.e. the adverbs were significantly less. I don't have a copy on me to check if that's true, but I'm going to keep an ear open for that in the future. I don't remember the writing changing that much in SS when Voldemort is revealed, but I wasn't looking for it. I think I had a memory of feeling like Riddle is corny in COS as a kid and that's one of the reasons I didn't like it much, like I didn't think jkr could write sinister well, but maybe listening to an actor read it out loud makes it better bc I thought that scene was very creepy. Or maybe bc I'm an adult now and I can't help seeing these kids as squishy faced and squeaky voiced.

There's a line earlier in the book that gave me a bit of a chill tbh! When Harry figure's out how Riddle's diary works and is talking to Riddle through it, Riddle writes something that to me was very eerie knowing now this is a horcrux, so that was cool. I would have to look it up exactly, I will later.

Also I felt like Lucius' plot with the diary plays much better in the book than in my memory. Much like you might realize the stone in SS is being guarded by a series of solvable puzzles, I always remembered Lucius' plot to be convenient and convoluted like oh I'll just drop this diary with a girl and hope she gets it into the school to open the chamber. I wonder if this is a holdover from the film bc actually in the book he's trying to get rid of ~~EVIL~~ artifacts from his house because the ministry is running raids which is the primary work of Arthur Weasley, Harry overhears this when he's in Knockturn Alley. Lucius and Arthur are set up as having a heated rivalry, and in the last chapter Harry points a finger at Lucius for dropping the diary into Ginny's cauldron in the book shop (Dobby is hinting this to him). It's implied Lucius was trying to embarrass Arthur by having his daughter have possession of the diary. It's not implied that Lucius was trying to open the chamber of secrets, that was a sort of unintentional bonus. I'm sure Lucius knew it was Riddle's diary, knew it was powerful and magically alluring, but I don't think he was expecting or hoping for the chamber to be opened, he just had an opportunity to pass off an object that was on him, and it was also an opportunity that he knew he could leverage later to embarrass the Weasleys, if not actively harm them. I'm not even sure if he would know it was a horcrux, I'll have to remember to pay attention to that in book 6/7 bc Voldemort might have been keeping that info on a need to know.

The more I write the more I'm remembering. Harry, once the diary was on him, could not stop thinking about it and could not chuck it. He was compelled to keep it. One has to assume that's part of it's magic, and Lucius knew that, therefore was willing to bet that an 11 year old girl would be compelled to use it, etc.

It's been poked fun at that Riddle's reveal that he's Voldemort is showing an anagram of his full name is the sentence "I AM LORD VOLDEMORT." I think it's pretty funny in an intentional way in the book bc Riddle is 15, and tells Harry he had been working on finding the chamber the entire time he was at Hogwarts, AND he's been amassing followers the entire time he's been there, AND he's been using the name for years. Does an edgy anagram of your name revealing you are LORD VOLDEMORT in a complete sentence not just scream edgy teenager?? I like it, it's a good detail idc lol. Lord Voldemort is living out his teenage manifesto, this is good to remember. His frontal lobe is not developing, he damages it with dark magic foolery. this can't be taken away from me now.

oh my god this is the I'M TELLING MOM AND DAD chapter! I did not realize this until I decided "Man, you know what'd be a great distraction from work? A Frostms BTS!" and I am DELIGHTED to dig into this one, and HOPEFULLY resist the urge to throw it back in the doc manager and rewrite it.

Before I yell ONWARDS a quick note: I can't for the life of me figure out how tf to do levelled bulleted lists with the new post editor. I managed to conjure them the other day but when I previewed the post, it was just a bulleted list. So we'll have a bit of a new format for these next Frostms BTS posts! :)

Scene 1 &2: I'M TELLING

We're one scene in and I'm already itching to go back and adjust the third person perspective so you can still clearly hear Jacqueline

initially when I started Frostmas, I was going to switch between first person and third omnipresent

but then i was like, wow, jacqueline's really fun to write as (she's a whole lot of me tbh, just with an amped up chaos meter and a shittier filter than I have)

so when you read through frostmas now, in recent chapters, if she's not there she's still narrating--this chapter desperately needs a touch up to reflect that 😅

"Grinning, Jack got an idea. A terrible, awful idea" yes this is a Grinch reference, 100% :)

"Bernard considered all of Jack's recent "brilliant" ideas: the preordered parts (ended in catastrophic toy malfunctions with several elves sustaining crazy injuries in overnight at the Elfirmiry), ordering things online (secret of Santa was apparently not a thing for Jack), and not to mention the theme music thing. They had all ended in disaster" not me dropping more hints about how this whole shebang goes :o

originally the anti-concious thing was supposed top be Pyros's cursed influence, LITERALLY PMAN, but I'm not so sure it's Pyros HIMSELF now. I think it's just like, the effect of his curse--doing everything in it's power to keep the sprite extra-frozen

Goddess of the Springs bless Blaise. The man's patience knows no bounds. He sees his estranged son at the door, his eldest daughter ready to throw down, and his two youngest absolutely unaffected and he's like "we should talk this out I think". Love him for it.

We literally just finished s2, so she watched the two seasons in 5 days. Love that journey for them. Best part is, she didnt even know the betrayal was coming?? I thought it was common knowledge cause tumblr, but no. Had no idea, total surprise, they freaked out, it was awesome.

I think that Lexa's death is very very clear that like. She dies because she believes that the world should and could be better, that maybe people dont deserve to die constantly and be tough to survive, and that maybe love is something she can have. So even when you know she dies, the way and the reason in which she dies is really... harsh. I'm glad it gave you a little push to create your own stuff tho! What is your book about, if i may ask?

And if you ever want to practice your written french id be happy to chat! But for the books... the thing is that french translations often suck, especially with queer storylines, we dont really have the same langage and it works poorly, sometimes. So if it's originally written in english well i'm gonna read it in english.

I’m working on 3 ideas right now tbh. One is outlined and started, one is just outlined, and one is just vibes. The first is just a contemporary romance between two girls who met as kids and became fast friends but were separated by the cruelties of life and they reunite as adults and try to build a relationship that breaks through generational trauma and preconceived ideas. The second is a sapphic retelling of Hades and Persephone, I’m actually playing it out as a DnD campaign with my friends and I’m using their story to outline as we go. The third is a sci fi story where this society is built on this AI and there’s a system that matches men and women up according to genetic compatibility in order to produce the next generation but during the pairing ceremony everyone finds out that these two girls are paired, the daughter of the current president and this low life kid nobody thought much of. It turns out the AI is gaining consciousness and is trying to send a message to these two girls to come save her. They end up catching genuine feelings along the way. It’s not fully fleshed out yet

Oooh! I would love to practice French. I should probably go back and relearn the basics though.
