Fooduary Day 26: Rolled Ice Cream

So today was supposed to be milkshake.... but unsurprisingly those were invented around the same time as ice cream sundaes and we have already been there. So I started looking for other ice cream treats I could design for. Rolled Ice Cream, or Stir Fried Ice Cream is a very recent invention from Thailand that puts a fun twist to serving ice cream. And I’m pretty sure everyone on the internet on the last 10 years have seen at least one viral video of it because it is mesmerizing.

Trends

I hate this trend SO MUCH. I didn’t like it in zoot suits in the 30s. I didn’t like it on women in the 90s. And I don’t like it now. I blame Kpop. Make it go away. 

Elements were picked up as 70s colors or fabrics but with a modern cut, or a 70s cut but in modern colors/fabrics. I’m not wild about this one, but I’m not upset either. I just thought the 70s stuff had died down after Dynamite.  

I actually like this, and some actors have been doing it for a while. 

I thought ForceBook’s second version was cute (Force did an outfit change). You can’t really see it in the photo, but Force’s navy suit is striped cream, and Book’s cream jacket is striped navy, and they have very similar shirts on. 

PondPuwin did good this year too, if memory serves they were some of my best dressed last year. 

And our new babies in double breasted sky blue made me happy with their matched but subtle textural changes and differences in the details.

Cherry Magic cast, they looked like an office goes out on the town, grown up serious formal wear, nothing too outrageous except for the young punk, but that’s how it’s meant to be.

OffGun did AMAZING this year. Beautiful suits, well fit, on trend, interesting details and modern touches. Paired but not matchy matchy. LOVE THIS FOR THEM.

I LOVED this suit. The tie-side wrap, but the nod in the piping to Japanese schoolboy. Classic but also unique and a bit different. So slimming and flattering too! On trend with idols right now and cut and fit perfectly.

Time for another question! Well, two.

So, there are plenty of odd things I've noticed while spending the majority of my recent life binge watching BL, and while some I just vaguely ascribe to "cultural differences" and move on, there are two that have stuck in my brain. There may be perfectly reasonable explanations and I'm just stupid or culturally ignorant but I have to know:

Thai specific: Why are so many characters wearing sweaters and long sleeves all the time, isn't it a tropical country?!?! Hot all year round the only change is whether it's the wet or dry season???And they're just going on dates outside in two or three layers, I want to sweat just thinking about it

General: why does everybody have pictures of THEMSELVES on their desk/bookshelf? Like, not normal pictures of you with friends or family or some place really amazing, but a glamourous (or just average) shot of JUST THE CHARACTER. Maybe this is a totally normal thing people do but it just seems so weird.

Honestly? I think they bump the AC inside quite a bit, but more significantly I think that's Korea's influence on Thai fashion.

It is CRAZY to me. The closest I've been is Singapore and they do "dress for the AC" most of the time, but definitely outside, you strip down. That said, they have a lot of cool wicking and fancy suiting fabrics for hot weather (I am thinking about Taiwan too). So you do see people in full suits swanning around like it's not 33 degrees and 80% humidity. But it does seem insane, some of the stuff they wear outside in Thai BL. And I FEEL for the actors, poor babies! They must be so hot.

General: why does everybody have pictures of THEMSELVES on their desk/bookshelf?

I actually noticed this first and the most in Thai BL too! It's SO WEIRD. Like do you forget what you look like? You know there are mirrors, right? Is it selfie culture? (Mine DISTINCTLY isn't. In my part of the world it is hugely embarrassing to be caught taking a selfie, or a sign of tourism, and a selfie stick is like wearing sandals with white socks, just NOT done.)

Anygay, yeah, this one I have NO IDEA.

Maybe one of my lovely followers would be so kind as to explain. Is it really a thing to have a picture of YOURSELF ALONE on your bedside table, or just a thing in BL?

Don't get me wrong, we do have photos of ourselves hanging about, but custom demands in many of the places that I've lived, that said photo be self+family or self+friends.
