kind of lame tbh how sakura in the chuunin exams arc is shown to cut off her hair as a symbol for her independence and coming into her own power (since she grew them out in the first place cuz she thought it might make sasuke like her) but then at the end of the story she still ends up being defined solely by her crush on him. like during the war arc kakashi makes it her most defining trait when he thinks to himself abt how team 7 has grown and they each have changed, he says abt sakura that her feelings for sasuke have changed. and in the end, when sasuke and naruto are about to take off to the valley of the end, she again, begs him to be with her. even says that she is pathetic for doing so like .. okay

Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under Cut
Annabeth Chase
I feel like fandom is kinda split on her with percabeth shippers loving her but any m/m shipper I've seen does not like her, really. She is my bae tho <3
Percabeth antis grind my gears so much because they never hate Percy, nono, even though he's arguably done more questionable stuff than Annabeth. Not everyone who hates her is doing so because of a mlm ship— the Perachel stans claim that Annabeth is a misogynist. However, basically everyone that isn't trying to ship her boyfriend with Rachel is trying to ship him with Jason, Nico, or her old friend Luke. They make her out to be this horrible abusive girlboss(derogatory) that she's simply... not. She doesn't insult Percy for having ADHD just because she's highly intelligent. She doesn't physically abuse him, and doesn't lay a finger on him outside of training. She's really devoted to him in a non-anti-feminist way. They just hate her for 'getting in the way' of Nico's convoluted attraction to Percy, or Jason's close friendship with him, or Luke's rivalry with him. But those relationships all flourish the way they were intended by the author: non-romantically. It's not Annabeth's fault for being intelligent or capable or jokingly snide or determined or any of those non-stereotypically-feminine qualities. She's just out here existing and people hate her for not being a man. Sorry for the rant.
She's canonically in a relationship with Percy Jackson for most of the books they're in, but he often gets paired in canon with other male characters, such as Nico di Angelo or Jason Grace. In fan fiction (especially yaoi focused ones) she's characterized as being a stuck up know it all, but she gets into plenty of shenanigans in canon and can be pretty goofy and sweet!
Sakura Haruno
Her husband is gay and her author doesn't know how to write women. So many people say she's the worst but she. DESERVES. BETTER!!! Save her from this franchise.
My baby girl my bestie my best friend. She committed the crime of um being written by kishimoto who both doesn’t know how to write women and somehow writes men in the gayest way possible specifically naruto and sasuke. Like the thing is naruto and sasuke ARE gay and also she gets so much hate for the crime of kishimoto writing her one dimensionally in love with sasuke. I know her personally she is a butch lesbian to me just trust me she’s in love with Ino and has a lesbian thing going on with Karin okay just trust me. My everything. She needs to divorce the loveless lavender marriage she’s in
What is there to say, even? The OG Threat to my 90s anime brain, the only woman I've ever hated with such a passion she made me turn away from the color pink. I used to write fics with my friend where she got left behind on purpose so our OCs could join the Naruto and Sasuke team instead. I loathed this bitch until I was 16 and realized the author simply couldnt write women and decided it was time to make peace with Sakura. It is not her fault she's vaguely written and obsessive over Sasuke. She deserves better. Sasuke and Naruto still should be together and Sakura shouldnt be with Sasuke but I no longer believe this because I hate Sakura, it is because I love her. She deserves a spouse who will actually put in the time to treat her like the hero she is.

Naruto re-read XXX
Chapters covered: 245 - 254 Twentyeight Volume of the manga / 1rst Volume Naruto Shippuden
Site used: https://manga4life.com/manga/Naruto (VIZ translation of the manga)
Disclaimer: This is intended as a list and simple observations of the topics that particularly interested me in the aforementioned chapters, in that sense, do not expect a linear -or totally deep- analysis.
Tumblr’s update doesn’t allow me to attach more than 10 pictures, therefore, all of them will be LINKED. Apologies.
634) A little more than two years passed, not yet the three ones Akatsuki said it needed to “clear all of its assignments” (x). It’s unclear what those assignments were as they didn’t seem to start collecting Bijuus until after Naruto returns to Konoha.
635) The look on Naruto’s face when he sees Sakura after two-plus years (x). Her stance is somewhat strange, was she flirting or fishing for compliments? Perhaps both. By her last expression, she does seem glad to see him.
636) Considering the title of “sensei” was often disputed during their time as Team 7, this statement is awkward (x). It seems that Kakashi and Sakura haven’t trained nor seen each other much during the two years either (x).
637) “Attack as though you meant to kill or you’ll never stand a chance!" (x) versus closing his eyes so he wouldn’t be spoiled about his favorite novel (x). Was he truly taking this whole thing seriously or nah? He claimed to “make more serious of an effort” (x) but he completely disregarded the seriousness when he decided spoilers were more important than combat.
638) I’ve said it countless times before, Sakura isn’t using her “raw strength” but rather the Cherry’s blossom impact; it’s a diversification of her medical ninjutsu: rather than simply enhancing her strength with chakra (as Tsunade likely does), she gathers chakra in her fists and releases it upon impact. Kakashi states it himself, “to rapidly manipulate maximum chakra and instantly concentrate it into one’s fist (...) Sakura was always adept at genjutsu… but if this display of skill is any indication… she might just end up a greater kunoichi than even Lady Fifth!” (x).
He even acknowledged her “capacity” for genjutsu (which was regular at best for what we saw) and decided that the route she chose was far better suited for her as it gave her more room to become of the likes of Tsunade. So all this time that her fandom complained about Kishimoto not giving her Genjutsu skills? It was acknowledged and the decision was explained. Furthermore, why do you want her to have Genjutsu skills when no matter what she could do with them, it was no match for the Sharingan? Her stans can’t stop shouting about how she was robbed of genjutsu when Kishimoto gave her a technique that no other member of Team 7 was even trying to attempt to give her something to excel in.
Kakashi’s appreciation of Sakura’s skills is rudimentary at best, I’ve already shown how her genjutsu skills were basic at most: She fell for Kakashi’s genjutsu on the bell test, had to wait for Sasuke’s reassurance that an illusion was in place in the chünin exams, fell for Orochimaru’s genjutsu in FoD, and was fooled by a henge twice in the same chapter and once by non-other than Naruto who pretended to be Sasuke. She had four encounters with the genjutsu technique (and two with the henge, which while not a genjutsu still relies on deceiving the enemy), and three out of the four times she fell for it, and still, some of you held Kakashi’s words as “proof of her wasted potential” when he’s the same man who couldn’t care less if she dropped out of the exam. (source)
639) Naruto’s “Kakashi is more adept at Sharingan than Sasuke…” (x) is hilarious because he’s comparing a 31-year-old man (who admits the Sharingan drains his stamina incredibly fast) with a twelve-year-old as that was the last time he saw him… Sakura admits she can’t keep up with Kakashi’s sign-weaving speed. She’s admitting to not having enough reflexes, this will come back with her fight against Sasori.
640) Kakashi states he “invented this amazing new jutsu…” I’ll wait for the resolution of this sentence but I’m guessing he’s speaking of the MS’s technique… which isn’t his (x).
641) Naruto invites Sakura out on a date… Sakura doesn’t reject the idea but the context implies she accepts because then it means Naruto has to pay for it (x).
642) Each village seems to have its version of the medical corps (x), they seem to also be able to erect a shield around the village. Sand also seems to have “puppet corps” (x) created by Sasori.
643) Deidara’s strategy is impeccable (x).
644) Inner Sakura is still alive it seems… (x). Also, why is Tsunade sending Team 7 (the jinchuuriki of the nine tails included) to Suna? Was she not informed about Akatsuki targeting jinchuurikis (she seems to be)? Was she not concerned about the possibility of its members attacking the vessel of Kurama? Why send just one team? (and later on, just two). If it was to save their numbers and avoid sacrificing members of their militia, why send their most powerful “tool” at their disposal? Why isn’t Jiraiya going with them? Makes no sense whatsoever. Just love the fact that Kishimoto didn’t know how to justify the whole decision so he just… didn’t.
645) Deidara’s assignment was the one-tail (x), Sasori’s target is unknown, it’s inside a jinchuriki tho.
646) It takes three days for the poison to kill Kankuro (x) and it takes Team 7 + Temari two and a half days to reach Suna. Sakura, using medical ninjutsu, can extract most of the poison from Kankuro’s body (x), giving her more time to work. It’s established that Tsunade is a better expert at poisons than Chiyo (x), and she seems to have taught Sakura and Shizune different types of antidotes. There's no mention of Sakura coming up with a new type of antidote on her own, she seems to have combined three of them to save Kankuro. Edit: The translation in this last point seems to be off. She might have meant she could do three doses of the antidote with the ingredients avaiable, using one in Kankuro.
Tumblr media
Shizune also uses Dokugiri and Shikomishindan, two forms of attack that have poison as their primary element.
647) Sakura knows about Naruto’s condition as a vessel, he wasn’t the one who told her, she secretly read Tsunade’s reports; that’s likely a crime. That way she learned about Naruto’s nature, Itachi’s existence, Sasuke’s target, and Orochimaru’s condition; nothing was confided in her, so she forced herself into the mixture (x). It was likely out of concern and to collect information to help Sasuke (x) but, strangely, such behavior goes unpunished, meanwhile, Naruto was persecuted when he sought the knowledge of the scroll during the first chapters of the manga.
648) Chiyo wasn’t interested in intervening with Gaara’s kidnapping until they told her Sasori was involved (x).

Before I get into this I wanted to say someone said on one of my posts about Naruto and One Piece that they didn't feel their was a point in comparing them and I wanted to say my intention isn't really to compare Naruto and One Piece. My point is that Naruto is a standard shounen with some good ideas and points but is overall not very good and has lots of writing issues. One Piece is a standard shounen that is very well written with fewer issues. And because all of my problems with people on here seem to stem from people wanting to read Naruto differently than intended to make it look better I want to use One Piece as an example of what something that is just good writing on its own merits looks like.
Anyway, Iruka says chapter one that he thinks Naruto's struggles have given him empathy and I think that is funny because to me Naruto has never been a character with any emotional intelligence or kindness to be seen in him. The only time he has interest in other's emotions or feelings is when he can relate them to his own experience and this is 1. never addressed as a problem Naruto has and 2. is a consistent theme throughout the manga. Not only that but he never seems to be able to do anything helpful when he finds people like that (which could be an interesting commentary on Naruto's inability with personal interactions but once again the manga doesn't make note of it). Think how he treats Inari, think encouraging Hinata to fight Neji even though it endangered her because it personally triggered him, think how he ends up fighting Gaara and saying he will fight Sasuke after saying he relates to them (not that I think he's wrong for fighting Gaara since...he's attacking the village just, Choices Kishimoto for doing that more than once).
Now let me show an example of the main character for one understanding someone else's feelings and for two, shock and awe, helping them. Generally Luffy isn't a character anyone would describe using the word "intelligence" for on first blush, but reading the manga you will see in a lot of situations Luffy is actually incredibly emotionally intelligent. And honestly I think it's kind of funny that Kishimoto bothers making Iruka specifically says Naruto has empathy when he doesn't show it at least in a helpful way meanwhile no one says anything about Luffy being kind yet...here we are...just being shown things instead of told.
Anyway, here's the example. This one is from early in the manga and I chose one that involves a whale instead of a person just to really drive the point home.
The crew meets (and gets eaten by...look it's a whole thing okay) a whale (Laboon) and the lighthouse watcher/former doctor/whale caretaker (once again...it's a whole thing), Crocus, tells them the story of how this whale was waiting for his friends, a different pirate crew, to sail around the world and return to him, but it's been 50 years and Crocus believes the crew has abandoned the whale and Laboon, disbelieving this, rams his head against the Red Line (it's a land mass that circles the entire world...listen I can't be explaining the intricacies of OP's world building just for this post), seriously injuring himself in his attempts to break through and find his friends. Luffy, for lack of anything else to do I guess (if he could just intuit the problem and do something about it without listening to a whole ass tale he would, trust), listens though as usual the energy he's giving is "no thoughts, head empty".
Tumblr media
But the next thing you know! Luffy has broken of the ship's mast (for some reason...) and is running up the whale to stab the mast into Laboon's latest slamming-his-head-into-a-wall-of-earth wound (in case you can't tell I'm not showing all the panels thus all the explaining).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laboon is in pain and attacks, but Luffy fights back.
Tumblr media
Luffy stops the fight by declaring it a draw!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, it looks like their match isn't settled so they will have to fight some other time. Luffy declares that they are rivals and after they sail around the world (like Laboon's previous crew of pirate friends) they will come back and Luffy and Laboon can have a rematch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luffy even paints their...uh, his version of their Jolly Roger on Laboon's head where his scars are and says he can't ram his head against the Red Line because that will erase the contract. This gives something else for Laboon to look forward to rather than him needlessly waiting for his friends to return. And it works! Every time we see Laboon in little asides or cover stories after this he is happily waiting for the Straw Hats at the lighthouse with Crocus. (And in case anyone was wondering his pirate friends and the Straw Hats can't just bring him with them because he's a giant fucking whale and they are circling the entire globe through dangerous waters, also the sky, also the bottom of the ocean, also fighting the government, also getting flung across the globe, and various islands.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what really REALLY touches me about this exchange is that Luffy knows he can't replace Laboon's previous pirate crew of friends. He can't just say "I'll be your friend" to fix this. So instead he positions himself as Laboon's rival, not replacing the friends Laboon is still waiting for or belittling his bond with them (and trust me...it's a bond 😢). And in case you're wondering does this somehow connect to Luffy's sad past and that's why he's doing this??? No. His sad backstory isn't anything like this. He's just doing it because it's the kind thing to do and if you're trying to do something and Luffy likes you he will do everything he can to help you.

i loved reading your post. i think hori is way worse than kishimoto when it comes to writing female characters. he has disgusting opinion on women and at this point i cant even separate the art from the artist. hori disgusts me on many levels. also, are you an anime only fan or do you follow the manga as well. if its the latter, what are you thoughts on the recent events of the series.
apart from his sexist view on women, i think the plot itself, it's fights and everything in between also has plenty of flaws rearing it's ugly head
I think it's less of a hatred for women on Horikoshi's part and more an unconscious bias that ends up leading to female characters all dying or fading away into irrelevancy... or being established as "strong" only for them to have a single shining moment before being relegated to supporting male character arcs, which get a lot more time and detail.
I quit the anime halfway through season 5 and haven't been reading ongoing manga chapters properly in years (I stopped when Lady Nagant was defeated), so I don't actually know how the final arc is going. I've seen some things relating to Dabi/Todoroki family drama and Bakugou's status in the battle. But I check leaks very rarely.
I was pretty disillusioned and emotional when I wrote the rant post on misogyny in the series. I just typed it out in one go fueled by my own indignance at how conveniently things go for Midoriya and how little any of the women in the story get to shine, even when the intention is for them to do so.
I obviously missed some points and examples because I was so emotional... so seeing people take it out of context on twitter and calling me a crazy tumblr fujoshi or radfem acting in bad faith pissed me off. I blocked a lot of people over it. Not worth my time if people can't fucking read and use their brains, lol.
I hesitate to throw labels at Horikoshi though. Maybe he does truly believe that women can be as strong as men. Maybe he doesn't truly hold misogynystic beliefs in the extreme way, where he thinks women have to be subservient. How people view strength between genders is an important aspect to consider. Saying a woman is strong or having her fight physically is not the same as being given equal character development to a man. Men get inhuman or creature-based designs, such as the centipede, but all the women have moe humanesque faces even if they have different skin colors or horns. Where do you draw the line?
Regardless of Horikoshi's intentions, there is a disparity in how he writes and draws his female vs his male characters, and especially how many of each of them he creates. I think it's ridiculous to act like that difference doesn't exist at all, or that someone calling it out (with no intention to like, cancel him) is reading into it too deeply.
In the end if people can't handle others pointing out flaws about things they like, that's a problem for them, not me. I've heard others say the final bnha arc is flawed and overly rushed, but I wouldn't know. I don't intend to read it until the series is over so I can binge and then mark it complete on my lists.
I used to like it but these days I find myself understanding more and more that shonen manga, especially Jump manga and action shonen, truly are not meant for me. I'm not a kid anymore and my standards for character development, plot development, and critical analysis just don't mesh well with it.

Oh! I wanted to ask you something about that! (Gaiden it is)
The moment Suigetsu made that test that showed that Sakura’s not the mom, but Karin, Naruto overheard it and said something like “Sasuke, you bastard” and then he was angry at him.
It was always so interesting to me. Because it’s obvious that it’s not about the cheat. I mean he’s not the woman in this marriage, if it wasn’t Sakura’s then she knew. So, what was Naruto angry about? Not telling him? Not telling Sarada? Like…??? Definitely not for Sakura’s sake.
Or is it just me not seeing something?
No you're 100% right. I already explained it in an ask, but I can't find it. Naruto's reaction had nothing to do with Sakura. In fact, we could make a whole other post about the change in their relationship from children going into adulthood. What a farce.
Intended, but still.
Naruto was angry because Suigetsu handled the situation very directly and in an insensitive way. That's how the story goes at least and tbh that's all there is to it at face value because afterwards the caption says that Sarada is in despair, Naruto tries to cheer her up.. again. He's fuming for her sake.
Tumblr media
Suigetsu even admits it.
But.
I noticed something else and I haven't seen anyone talk about it yet, lemme know what you think..
This is interesting. (to me lol)
It doesn't help that all the circumstances were against Naruto. (Being in Orochimaru's hide-out, all the story conflicts, etc-) It's funny, kinda, that Sasuke didn't even bother to keep an eye on Sarada who wandered off in that place especially considering his history, but Naruto noticed. During the entire story he looked out for her and tried his best to cheer her up. But Naruto with Sage mode could easily have found Sarada right away and yet, between him noticing she's gone and the panel of him listening in there are 3 pages(!)
Tumblr media
[[insert 3 Manga pages of them testing~~~~~]]
Tumblr media
So the question is, why was Naruto just silently listening in? If he really just was angry for Sarada's sake as the story tells us.. (again, this has nothing to do with Sakura).. then why didn't he stop Suigetsu from talking before it got worse?
Does Kishimoto want me to believe that Naruto calmly came to stand behind that wall only at the end of the revelation? Yeah right- no. We know how fast Naruto is, how quickly he can find people with Sage-mode. Meaning... he heard everything, he listened in and he let it happen. So why didn't he stop them before the actual test?
He either really believed Sakura is the mother and so didn't see any problems ahead or was too stunned/curious to interfere.
I still believe he was angry for Sarada, but he was also angry for himself. I believe Sasuke hasn't told Naruto anything regarding Sarada. That he knows nothing because of this one panel only and why would he?
When it comes to their "wives" and "kids" they don't communicate which should tell you already a whole lot. Naruto didn't know Sarada had never seen her dad and Sasuke didn't even know 'Boruto's name at the beginning of the sequel..
But they still do talk and often meet up. He shouts at Sasuke that they're "gonna have words later"
Tumblr media
.. and they continue to fight like a married couple.. lmaooo. So I just think it was a lot for Naruto to take in also and it has nothing to do with "cheating" or Sakura. And everything with Sarada in despair as the caption says, the way Suigetsu dealt with it and him feeling a certain way about it all.

Now, taking this into account and above all Naruto's feelings which are the most important ones in the story, if I had to choose between the two, I would say with my eyes closed that Sakura really deserves it. Only those who truly love can put aside their feelings for the other's happiness or well-being. Hinata claims to love Naruto but what does she really know about him? they interacted yes and no twice, they never spent time together, she never really did anything for him except keep watching him from behind the trees and admiring him from afar without really making him feel his presence. What Hinata feels for Naruto is a deep admiration, an infatuation that she tends to mistake for "love" when love is not. Also, Naruto never loved her, he always saw her as a friend but still today it seems that people give more importance to the feelings of a secondary character rather than those of the protagonist himself and it's a mere nonsense. How can you call yourself a fan if you don't even root for the only time he tries to get noticed by him Naruto ignores his confession and prefers to go to eat ramen or spend more time with Sakura. I also notice very often comments stating that since Sakura didn't take Naruto into consideration as a child and considered him a nuisance then she doesn't deserve it. Well, I remind you that no one falls in love with a person without really knowing them and this aspect is part of Sakura's character and her maturation as a character as she represents human weakness and realism. You learn from your mistakes and from experience. Among other things, you justify Sakura's love towards Naruto as that of a sister or friend, right? I ask you: under what circumstances is it said that Sakura sees Naruto only as a friend or brother? Have you ever experienced mixed feelings towards someone you consider only one? why are Sakura's feelings only friendship/brotherhood while Hinata's must necessarily be seen as unconditional love? what is the difference? or because Sakura's love for Sasuke is always intended as romantic while those for Naruto are not? why only Naruto's feelings should be compared to a simple crush while others are all kind of sincere love? Can you answer these questions for me? really i am more and more shocked by naruto fandom.... Besides Kishimoto himself admitted more times that her confession wasn't false her confession, he tried to represent her as an honest and determined girl as well as she also clarified that although she seems to love Sasuke actually Naruto is very close but it seems that people forget it easily and she is only good to throw unjustified hatred towards a character or a ship just to justify their couple or their advantage when we all know, even those who don't want to accept it, that the reality of the facts is another

1.Hi! Do you happen to have any ideas about Sakura's parents? I'm new to the fandom but wanted to write a Sakura-centred story, but I'm not sure how to handle them. Most stories I've read portray them as abusive/neglectful. I'm still reading manga (and watched anime; prefer manga) but as far as I know, they never appeared there. In anime and RTN they didn't make a good impression on me (borderlying emotional abuse, and her dad seems to be dismissive of her feelings and always makes stupid jokes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey, no worries, anon! Now, for your question, I understand perfectly where you’re coming from.
I will confess that I’m not an anime watcher and don’t intend on being one, but I understand your frustrations. One consistent thing about SP we can ‘depend’ on is their rather annoying penchant for portraying her as horribly as possible and taking her flaws and dialing them up to unbearably high levels. If her portrayal was more congruent with how she is in the manga, I doubt the bandwagon of hatred for her would be as severe, but I digress.
On to the topic at hand, but as a fellow fanfic writer who frankly loves Mebuki and Kizashi but hates how SP handled them (considering how Kishimoto-sensei designed them himself, it feels like more salt in the wound for us manga fans), I do have some workarounds on how to approach them, and how their inclusion can actually enhance Sakura’s potential with some Sakura-centric trope staples.
Now, with what we’re given, we do approach some problems with them:
Characterization: One of the biggest issues I’ve been able to discern is that both Mebuki and Kizashi seem to tag-team in being horrible to Sakura. Not only is Mebuki pigeonholed in the domineering, naggy, bossy personality trope that almost every Naruto woman has or eventually comes to exhibit by the time they become a housewife, but she also seems to be quite big on devaluing Sakura, too. We see her rag about how much of a slob Sakura is (let alone how she can’t cook; keep your headcanons, SP, I don’t want them) in front of others, but that doesn’t necessarily make Kizashi much better. Why? Well, he seems like he’s whipped in the bad sense of the word, often agreeing with Mebuki and not speaking out against what she says. His redeeming quality is that he seems more laid back and likes to crack puns/dad jokes (I like it, at least), but together? Well, it doesn’t add up to parents that seem to support their daughter. Hell, if canon is anything to go by, it might not be that ridiculous to assume Sakura might’ve cut ties, if it least is alienated and distant. Not what we want here!
Background: Or rather, the lack thereof. Now, while I see this as a huge positive, others don’t. Why? Well, there’s next to nothing on them while almost all of the Rookies have fleshed out backgrounds. Mebuki and Kizashi, meanwhile, are just run-of-the-mill civilians with no real past. Kizashi seems to be a genin while Mebuki is simply a housewife. Whether she was an active kunoichi at some time or not, I doubt we’ll ever know.
So, how do we fix this train-wreck? These are just my solutions, at least, and how I’ve come to work around these glaring problems.
Kizashi and Mebuki’s dynamic: From what I’ve seen, I really feel that these two’s personalities could actually be really amusing if redirected, so that’s my first piece of advice: redirecting where their vitriol goes, or distributing it more evenly could really salvage their characters without making them OOC. Mebuki’s a nag? Well, I find softening her blows or inserting some humor can help diffuse any potential toxicity. For example, if Mebuki feels the need to carp at Sakura at how messy her room is, maybe Mebuki can toss in some humor and mention that her pile of dirty laundry is starting to become sentient and that she heard it growl at her while she was vacuuming the hall. With Kizashi, I like to have her actually take part in his jokes as the straight man (like manzai that exists as a form of Japanese humor). As for Kizashi, I think the simplest fix would just not o have him take part in any degrading. However, if you eliminate it entirely (which I do and recommend), he can become an active, jokey participant instead of a doormat (which I absolutely do, too), would help loads.
Mebuki: Like I stated above, you can keep most of her personality while removing the sharp, jagged bits and not have her be unrecognizable. Instead of making her the one who devalues Sakura, make her the tough love, realistic/brutally honest advice parent. What this means is, for example, having Mebuki sit a pre-series, young Sakura down and tell her that being a kunoichi is really tough and that she won’t have an easy time in the Academy. For Interlude-era Sakura when she’s training under Tsunade, make Mebuki snatch away medical textbook Sakura was cramming at midnight and tell her she needs to sleep and has been looking like a zombie in the morning. After one of her deadly spars with Tsunade, have Mebuki blow up at Sakura out of worry, not because she doesn’t think Sakura can’t do it. Have them get into quarrels about how stressed Sakura is, that she should ask Tsunade to ease up a little. Stuff like this, where it’s still flawed but not toxic.
Kizashi: Like I said above, Kizashi is a little rough, but with a little polish, it doesn’t take much to make him shine. Personally, my favorite thing to do with him is make him the parent Sakura confides in and receives really tender advice and assurance from. I see him as the more affectionate of the two, for sure. The one who gave tiny Sakura bear hugs after really rough treatment by her bullies, who tells her they were probably jealous of her. That kind of dad, really. However, what I really love doing is playing with Kizashi’s background as a Genin and make him the one who actually helped train Sakura in the basics. We know Sakura was really adept with shurikenjutsu, trap setting, genjutsu identification and dissolvement, chakra control, and the like? Well, have Kizashi be the one who helped his kid out! Maybe he helped her memorize the Shinobi Rules, who coached her on her aim, who taught her how to expand her chakra control, stuff like that.
Background: Now, I know this one is a big head-scratcher for many creators, but it’s what I find to actually be the biggest strength and source of inspiration for Sakura-centric AU’s. Why? Because fleshing out her background is oftentimes a massive component, if not plot point! I go into a lot more depth with it in this meta I wrote awhile back with one of the chapters that explores specific tropes, but some of the most fun you can have with Sakura’s lack of background is fleshing it out. And keep Kizashi and Mebuki as her parents because they, too, like Sakura don’t have explored backgrounds. This can entail everything from fleshing out a clan for her (Haruno clan, anyone?) to making Kizashi and Mebuki the descendants of another (Senju and Uzumaki are popular choices) or even inventing kekkei genkai or other cool jutsu unique to their family. The sky’s the limit, really, with where you can take this!
In conclusion, I hope this can be of help to you, anon! Mebuki and Kizashi are a tricky subject to handle, but with a little patience and polish, can be better reflections of themselves instead of the distorted mess that SP warped them into.
If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

So in the most recent Chapter we found out that Sarada and Sumire are the only ones (besides Boruto and Kawaki obv) to be immune to Eida's Powers.
Even Shikamaru says that Sarada and Sumire may be the only people who can take Eida down.
Do you have any theories as to why this could be?
I've seen people believe it's because they both have a Crush on Boruto (an Otsutsuki) which overrides Eida's Love Powers (since there's not many similarities between Sarada and Sumire apart from that)
But some also theorized that for Sarada it could be because she's very distantly related to the Otsutsuki. (Tho that would mean Naruto and Sasuke would be easily able to take down Eida without any need for Sarada and Sumire to step in...?)
As for Sumire, this is where things get tricky Because some people believe her immunity is because she's connected to Nue (and Nue has some kind of connection to the Otsutsuki tho we don't know how)
However the Nue still has yet to appear in the Manga so this doesn't seem likely so far...
What do you think the reason is?
I really don’t think Sarada’s and Sumire’s crushes on Boruto are protecting them. After all, Mitsuki worshipped Boruto, and he still transformed into an Eida simp. There has to be another variable here.
For Sumire, it has to be the Nue thing. Everything from her crush on Boruto to her presence at the Scientific Tools Lab is based on her backstory with Nue. Her existence in the manga may be a retcon, but she’s still intended to be the same character. Nue has to be there, even if he hasn’t been shown on the page.
For Sarada, there are a few options.
She’s an Uchiha, which means she’s distantly related to the Otsutsuki. Although by that logic, Sasuke, Hinata, and Himawari would be immune as well.
She’s Sakura’s daughter. Sakura’s Strength of a Hundred Seal is apparently quite similar to karma, and it may have affected Sarada’s development during the pregnancy.
Sarada’s backstory is a lie, and she really is one of Orochimaru’s experiments with Uchiha and Otsutsuki DNA. Although that would beg the question of why Orochimaru didn’t give immunity to Mitsuki too.
Eida’s power requires direct eye contact, and Sarada hasn’t taken off her glasses yet. Although Amado also wears glasses, and he’s affected.
Or maybe there is a fifth option Kishimoto will make up as he goes along.

You mentioned in one of your responses that Kishimoto wants Sakura's character to be hated so he wrote her character that way, can you please share your thoughts on why do you think he did it? what benefit or impact is he trying to achieve here?
Because for me he created a character that always needs to be saved, uses her brains but not in the right context (I was hoping she could be like the Hermione Granger of the group who is good theoretically and can come up with strategic plans etc which never happened). The few things that I liked about her is that she learned good chakra control, become a good medical ninja and she saved Naruto in the war arc by performing CPR. But a few chapters before that she was thrash talking Tsunade about maintaining a youthful appearance and towards the end I got secondhand embarrassment while hearing her use her feelings to stop Sasuke from fighting Naruto - my initial thoughts was like "really this again? you were not able to stop Sasuke from leaving the village before what made you think using your feelings again will make you stop him now?" which made me give up all hopes for her character.
WHY KISHIMOTO MADE SAKURA DESPICABLE???
Short Answer:
Sakura is designed as a character very similar to Naruto but in an unlikeable way. Kishimoto wanted to create two contrasted characters with similar personalities, taste and wanted to show us “How these 2 people use their feelings for the other person as a motivation to improve themselves and how their feelings helped the other person”.....  And by making her unlikeable, the Bond between N and S is pronouncedly Noticeable because of our strong Heteronormative Lens... Which is exactly why Sasuke loves Naruto but equally indifferent towards Sakura.
Long Answer:
[[Lengthy post... Read at your best time]]
SIMILARITIES:
I hate to compare this girl with Naruto.... But that was what Author intended from the Beginning and hence I am making how similar they are in terms of their Inherent Characteristics.
Prank Lovers:
Tumblr media
They both like to make Pranks.... That’s why Sakura’s Inner Self love these things...
Making fun of Each Other:
Tumblr media
They love to make fun of each other. If only Kishi gave this dynamics to Sakura and Naruto throughout the entire series... Hmmmph!!!!!
Partners in Crimes:
Tumblr media
Even though Sakura never wanted to open that scroll, She budged on her decision eventually and ended up becoming a Partner in Crime with Naruto...
Short-Tempered:
Tumblr media
You might have noticed that only Naruto and Sakura reacts this way for Kakashi’s Tardiness... Sasuke usually keeps quiet.
Perverted:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are perverted....in their own ways!!!! Naruto is acting like he is a Pervert and Sakura acted like she was not but ended up being one... Because Naruto is not Nose bleeding whereas Sakura is!!!!
Boring Jutsus:
I really can’t attach any panels for this!!!! But I find this to be very interesting. When you compare any secondary side characters’ Jutsu with Naruto’s Technique.... Naruto’s Jutsus are all some modified version of Rasengan... I mean Rasen Shuriken, Tailed Beast Bomb, Oodama Rasengan, Tailed Beast Rasen-Shuriken.... You name it....
It’s too boring man!!! It’s hella boring for a Titular Character... Look at Sasuke, Itachi, Hashirama.... Everyone had some cool, flashy, interesting and Exciting Jutsus. What about Kakashi??? He copied 1000 Jutsus... Even Jiraiya vs Pain Battle had wide variety of Jutsu.
Similarly Sakura’s Jutsus are all hilarious and boring too. She just punches Ground, heal herself using 100 healings Jutsu and Medical Ninjutsu..
Both of them are Close Ranged Ninjas. So, there is that. Usually, the creator gives all the flashy stuffs for the Titular Character... Here he ended up making Naruto painfully boring just like Sakura...
DIFFERENCES:
Dreams:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing to say here... But I am not going to bash her dream in an Outright manner.... After all, any woman can dream of anything she wish... It’s all about her Choice.  Because, I’ve seen in some media where people gets motivated by their Love and they ended up achieving a lot.
But, Did Sakura put any great effort to achieve her dream??? Did she achieve/gain anything because of her love for Sasuke??? That’s what matters.
[[Anyone who says, Only boys were allowed to have worthy dreams in this series...  I don’t agree with that.... Sasuke’s dream was not even a dream... Kakashi was literally living his life flipping porn book, Jiraiya was a playboy who was wandering around hoping that he would meet the ‘Prophesized Child’....
Only Hashirama, Madara (before darkening), Tsunade, Minato, Obito (before darkening) Yahiko & Co and Naruto had a worthy dream in this story...
Madara and Obito were just clowning themselves with that Moon plan and shit]]
Sensitivity:
Tumblr media
Sakura was trash-talking Naruto in front of Sasuke in the hopes that Sasuke would like her, favour her... because she thought that Sasuke hated Naruto for constantly picking up fights with him... [[What an oblivious asshole!!! Sasuke liked Naruto precisely because he was pranking everyone in the village as well as him... S enjoys N’s pranks...]]
This insensitivity is something where Sakura’s Character got so many hate and still many people hate her for that... and for a very good reason. Trash Talking an Orphan in front of Another Orphan, no less.
Tumblr media
Not to mention Naruto being oblivious to that ‘Orphan Insult’ fact and speaking on behalf of Sakura on many occasions in front of Sasuke.... A Recipe for making Sakura look like even more of a despicable Asshole nonetheless.. Plus, Sakura being Oblivious about Sasuke’s Orphan status but wanting to steal his Kiss adds to another level of Disgust.
And you know what’s funny???
Sakura is capable of being sensitive....
Tumblr media
I won’t be saying Naruto was being insensitive when he called Inari out as “Crybaby”. I would say he was being brash. But Sakura knew that Naruto’s word choice is not in a good taste and rightfully she points it out in the above panel...
Also, In Part 2... She was the only person who tried to understand Sai’s behaviour and found out about his Brother... So, She is capable of being sensitive...
What stops her from extending that same sensitivity to Naruto, though????
Well, The only reason being Sasuke. She knows Sasuke gives his absolute attention to Naruto... Out of Jealousy & Spite... She would throw anyone under the bus to get the attention from Sasuke.
Sakura being totally insensitive to everyone is one thing... But deliberately being insensitive towards Naruto which shows her Hypocrisy, Jealousy and an innate ability of being an S-Class Bully.. This is disgusting as compared to her Orphan Insult.
[[Please don’t bring me those two times she defended Naruto in front of Sasuke... One, in FOD and the other, Under the Bridge... I don’t care about any of that... Even Sai defended Naruto more than this Asshole...]]
Naruto is Sensitive.... Sakura is a Bully and Insensitive.
Treasuring the First Bond:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakura was bullied by her Agemates in her Academy and Ino was the first person to volunteer and save her... She also became friends with Sakura and helped her in whatever way she can...
But Sakura threw Ino under the Bus to pursue a Boy who don’t even know this girl’s existence in the first place....
Tumblr media
Whereas Naruto did everything to stop Sasuke from going to Orochimaru all because Sasuke threw a simple smile at him and acknowledged his existence when everyone in the Village avoided him like pest.
Why couldn’t Sakura be grateful towards Ino for acknowledging her just like Naruto is towards Sasuke???
Naruto is grateful. Sakura is ungrateful.
Everything is about me/you :
Tumblr media
“To me.... I would be just as alone as you... I love you with all my heart... If you were to stay with me, there would be no regrets, Because everyday we’d do something fun... we’d be happy I swear, I would do anything for you... Please, Just stay with me...”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“In the end, Maybe it was just me who thought we were friends... But then that makes me Stupid, Sasuke..... I can’t help it... But.... I don’t know why... I don’t want a thug like Orochimaru to ruin you.... “
This whole 16 Chapter long VoTE1 fight was all about Naruto not wanting to let Sasuke leave because of Orochimaru... It was all about Sasuke’s well-being. Even though Naruto felt his friendship was not reciprocated, he still can’t help it... He simply wanted to save Sasuke, no matter what.
Tumblr media
“I’ll even help with your revenge... I don’t know what I could do... But, I’ll try my best to do something... So, Please... Stay with me... Or Take me with you if you can’t stay here...”
She is totally enabling his Destructive Tendencies.
Tumblr media
Naruto’s entire concern was all about Sasuke & his safety... whereas Sakura’s proposal was all about how she would feel without him... She didn’t care about how Orochimaru was going to abuse Sasuke’s body.... The funny thing is, she was the only person besides Sasuke to witness Orochimaru injecting Cursed Seal and she knew his motives as well... Still she didn’t care about any of that as long as she can be with him...
To summarize this whole section,
Sakura : I’ll feel lonely without you... Please stay with me.
Naruto: Even if you don’t consider me as your friend... I’ll stop you
&&&&
Sakura: I’ll help with your revenge... Or Take me with you if you can’t stay here..
Naruto: You might not come back!! You might get killed...!! I can’t let you go somewhere like that!!
Naruto’s love is called Selfless Love.  A Stark contrast to Sakura’s Selfish Love.
Trust - Version 1
Tumblr media
This is a flashback scene where Sakura thinks about the conversation she had with Naruto about Sasuke’s cursed seal, earlier that day. She is totally giving a Fake Smile here... Because, even though she wanted to believe Naruto’s words, deep down she knew that Sasuke would seek Orochimaru....
As she expected, Sasuke was seen leaving the Village...
Tumblr media
“I knew you’d come this way.... If you were to leave... So, I just waited here...” LOL... She was totally sure that he would leave the village..
Now, please don’t think that Sakura understood Sasuke better than Naruto and all that nonsense. That’s what SS shippers always claim...
During Chunin Exams Break, After Sasuke left the hospital secretly to train with Kakashi, Sakura always had this doubt that Sasuke might have left the village to seek Orochimaru...
Tumblr media
So, She almost concluded that Sasuke would do anything to seek power even during the Chunin Exams itself. Whereas Sasuke only came to that conclusion after meeting the Sound Four.
Judging someone as Bad even before they become Bad.
And what made her come to this conclusion????
It goes all the way back to Chapter 4 when Sasuke unveiled his ambition “to kill certain man”.
Tumblr media
And Sakura was just feeling it was “Cool”.... Rather than being worried or afraid about Sasuke, she thinks it was cool because he gives off this “Bad Boy” vibe.
So, Sakura’s opinion about Sasuke is that he is a bad boy who looks ‘Cool’ and wants to take revenge on someone and he would do anything to obtain Power... Her prediction about Sasuke leaving the village was entirely based on this opinion.
Tumblr media
Whereas Naruto was totally sure that, “Don’t Worry!! Sasuke won’t give in to someone like that (Orochimaru). He is strong enough as is!! I promise!!!”
Tumblr media
Harsh betrayal comes from the most beloved & trusted person.
And it’s precisely because of that strongly forged trust... Naruto felt utterly shocked and betrayed by Sasuke’s decision....
Why could Naruto trust Sasuke so much???
Tumblr media
Well, In Chapter 218 , Naruto thought about all the things that had happened between them and came to this conclusion that Sasuke could never leave the village by leaving everything because Naruto has seen what Sasuke is capable of.... he is capable of keeping his dreams aside and prioritizing other people during their Team 7 days.
This shows that Sakura couldn’t even trust the person she loves with “all her heart”. Well, Not everyone has to trust Sasuke blindly... But If she couldn’t trust him, why ‘love’ him at all...??
Trust - Version 2
Tumblr media
“Sasuke can’t be trusted to be a true comrade... What are your actual feelings on the matter, Sakura??”
Here, Sai is asking a very valid and logical question to Sakura from a Third person’s view... Of Course, Sai has a very good reason to not trust Sasuke because just before this Day, Sasuke was with Akatsuki and now he joined the War by claiming, “I will be the Hokage”.
In response, Sakura was saying... “Sasuke-kun has come back to us... It makes me Happy... And I do believe him...”
-
-
-
-
Tumblr media
If she truly believed Sasuke... Why is she giving an ugly Fake Smile here???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Naruto here is totally sure that Sasuke wouldn’t stand against him or else he will stop him from doing that.... There is no single shred of doubt or hesitation in Naruto’s answer...
And this is just not blind faith that Naruto has on Sasuke.
Tumblr media
Just like Sai questioned Sakura about the Trustworthiness of Sasuke during the War Arc... Here he is questioning Naruto that why should he go so far for Sasuke who just said he doesn’t care about Naruto anymore...
Tumblr media
And Naruto is giving his reason here with such a confidence... He doesn’t expect Sasuke to care about him... He simply want to save him from Orochimaru... Dot.
In both the scenes, Naruto’s trust on Sasuke never wavered... Either Naruto was willing to stop him or trust him completely. There’s no place for doubt or hesitation, unlike Sakura.
Naruto saving Sasuke was never about changing Sasuke’s heart... Well, No one could able to change him unless Sasuke himself wanted to. It was all about Naruto showing Sasuke that “You are not what you pose yourself to be... I know what you are. And You are capable of doing so many Good things... And I trust you, no matter what... If not, I will stop you....”.
It’s that last longing trust from Naruto was what saved Sasuke.
And why couldn’t Sakura have the same faith or confidence to stop him??
She got a heavy roast from Sasuke when she mocked Naruto’s orphan status on their first meeting... She saw Sasuke offering lunch to Naruto during the Bell Test.... She knew that Sasuke gave his life for Naruto in the Land of the Waves... She knew that Sasuke was not himself in the Forest of the Death (FOD) and that’s why she hugged him from behind and stopped the Cursed Seal’s effect... Sasuke saved her from Orochimaru in the FOD, He acknowledged her Genjutsu ability during Chunin Exams....
She has seen the good side of Sasuke many times during their Team 7 times.... How could she not put a benefit of doubt on him and believe him completely????
That’s because Naruto could able to see his positives and also could see what’s going on inside Sasuke whereas Sakura totally ignores the Good Side he has shown her and picks only the Dark side... Like whenever he says, “I am an Avenger”... And she totally base her opinion on how Sasuke poses himself to be rather than trying to see what’s going on inside him. [[I wrote about this ‘duality’ in my upcoming post]]
This shows Sakura’s love and feelings towards Sasuke was so shallow which is not very different from Sai or Shikamaru who felt skeptical about Sasuke.
She says she loves him with all her heart but she couldn’t trust him.
Naruto is full of confidence. Sakura is distrustful about Sasuke
Feelings:
Tumblr media
This is a very good way of showing how Naruto’s feelings about Sasuke were totally contrasted with Sakura. Naruto was feeling positive, hopeful and determined whereas Sakura was feeling negative, hopeless and dejected.
Plus, Naruto was willing put any effort to save Sasuke, even if it means to hurt his own body. Whereas Sakura did nothing but Crying for her Sasuke-Kun. As if her tears would help him in any way.
Self-Inserting:
Tumblr media
LOL... A Double mockery from the Author.
I’ve talked about this in my other post that the Author was mocking Hinata in this panel by making her watch Sakura hugging her beloved ‘Naruto-Kun’.... At the same time, the Author was mocking Sakura as well....
First off, She knew that Hinata loves Naruto while healing her... Why did she hug Naruto despite knowing that??? If she was a person who hugs him frequently, then fine... But this is the first time she is doing this gesture even though she could’ve hugged him when Naruto came back as an Egyptian Mummy after fighting with Sasuke in VoTE1 battle. This shows that she wants to self-insert herself with popular people. Just like how she desired Sasuke because he was popular.
Second off, It took this long for Sakura to acknowledge Naruto.... Just like the villagers... then what’s the difference between the Villagers who observed Naruto only from a distance and Sakura who was with him in the same team????
Third off, Sakura is being shameless by hugging Naruto in front of everyone, without actively contributing anything for his success unlike Kakashi and Iruka and Jiraiya.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kakashi and Iruka both observe and enjoy the Success, Acknowledgement & Attention Naruto was getting.... by STANDING AT A DISTANCE. They are not self-inserting themselves as “My Student” or “My Son”.... They just let him feel the moment like an happy parent, even though they have every reason to hug him before everyone.....
What Sakura did for Naruto to hug him before everyone, anyway???
Nothing....
Tumblr media
Again... An Asshole-ish move from Sakura by Self-Inserting herself in a place she is not supposed to...
Naruto had every reason to hug Sasuke in this scene because he went through so much to bring Tsunade. Other than Changing flowers and crying for him, What Sakura did for Sasuke’s recovery anyway???
Since Naruto was generous and repressing his own feelings, he left that place as soon as possible.
What a filtered self-inserting desperate Asshole!!!!
Naruto is selfless. Sakura is self-insertive.
Respect:
Tumblr media
“I don’t have to worry about keeping my youthful looks!”
Do I have to say anything here???
This is Ms. Haruno Sakura being an S-Class Dumb Asshole by dissing her Master, another woman, who lifted her up from being an useless piece of shit to being little useful and she is flaunting about the fact that “My Master was keeping her “Youthful Looks” by spending her chakra for something “Useless” whereas I don’t have to waste Chakra like that...”
I was like, “No, You Fool!!! Despite keeping her “Youthful Looks”, Tsunade could take multiple stabs from Madara left, right and center whereas you are wetting over your Sasuke-kun’s validation at every 5 fucking minutes...”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No.... This is totally a repulsive behaviour and I have no clue how some of her stans shamelessly claim that she surpassed Tsunade... Even in Chapter 699, Tsunade was the one who was making that Prosthetic Arm for Naruto whereas this Asshole is busy dissing her Master to get the dick of some boy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talk about ‘Respecting the Bonds’.... Naruto is such a gem at it.... Here Naruto is projecting his regrets and other people’s regrets through the Mind Transmission Jutsu to the entire Shinobi Alliance.... Which made even Orochimaru to become considerate and help out the Alliance. Naruto didn’t diss Jiraiya to stand next to Sasuke unlike Sakura.
This is called Respecting and Being Grateful to the people who lifted them up.
[[To anyone who says, “The Author wrote her that way... It’s not Sakura’s fault”.. Nope... I don’t agree with you..... AT ALL.... Not one bit.... This girl was once ready to leave her family and friends to get the dick of Sasuke... It’s not surprising to see throwing her master under the bus to get his Dick again]]
I’ve written 9 sections so far... And this Idiot threw 3 people under the bus... Naruto, Ino and Tsunade. Just saying....
I really wonder how could people like such an ungrateful character????
Mental Resolve:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“If I can stab Sasuke-kun right now, this will all end!!”
Her very first remark about Sasuke is that “He’s completely changed”... Well, Yes... He did changed... But has she ever tried to understand why he changed???
I don’t care about Sai, Shikamaru or any other Konoha 12 never attempted to understand him... Because they have no obligation to do it... They never claimed that they “loved” Sasuke with all their heart. And they have every reason to decide to eliminate Sasuke.
But this girl claimed that she loved Sasuke and all kind of BS but ended up doing the same like other people...Then what’s the difference between Sai and Sakura anyway??? Shouldn’t she be the one who tried to understand Sasuke at all costs???
Whereas with Naruto,
Tumblr media
“I’ll bear the burden of your Hatred... And we’ll die together...”
Uhhh???? Case Closed..... I Guess???
Sakura’s mental resolve in saving, trusting, changing, loving Sasuke is totally shallow and easily breakable by a mere blow of a Gentle Breeze... Whereas Naruto’s mental resolve transcends beyond everything.
Everything’s about me/you - Version 2:
Tumblr media
Basically Sakura’s proposal was all about... “I did so many things for you... If you like me, please stop all of this..... Somehow things will magically go back to the way they used to be... My feelings will help you...” There’s no mention about how this plan would harm Sasuke because of the burden he has to bear...
Tumblr media
“Whenever I see you carrying that burden and suffering by yourself, I felt pained... So much pain that I just can’t leave you alone...”
That whole VoTE2 battle was all about Naruto not wanting to leave Sasuke alone. It was never about himself or his life....
Tumblr media
Here Sasuke is threatening to kill Naruto
Tumblr media
and Tsunade...
And for the Nth time, Sakura didn’t hesitate to throw Naruto and Tsunade under the Bus...
Why couldn’t she talk about caring about these people in her confession??? Oh Well!!! She don’t even care about Sasuke... Why would she care about other people who helped her all along???
Sakura = Ungrateful Asshole
Understanding:
Tumblr media
“What makes you think that you can understand anything about me?”
Sasuke here is asking a very logical and valid question to Naruto about understanding him because N never had any Bonds to begin with and he never lost them.. So naturally he couldn’t understand him.
Understanding is one of the Major themes that was reinforced many times in this story. It’s not only Sasuke... Nagato, Jiraiya, Hashirama... Everyone enforces the same thing in a little different way...
And Understanding Sasuke becomes the unofficial Goal for Naruto in Part-2.
Tumblr media
“I finally understand how Sasuke felt...”
Even though Naruto never had any parents, he considered Jiraiya as his own Family and when he lost him... He decided to avenge Jiraiya by willing to learn Senjutsu in order to face Pain. Naruto came to understand that “It’s the same feeling Sasuke must also have felt back then when he left the Village”...
Tumblr media
“I understand why you did it!”
And that’s precisely why Naruto could understand Sasuke’s behaviour in the Kage Summit Arc.
Even though Sasuke went for a Rampage & decided to destroy Konoha after the Kage Summit, Naruto could still understand because that’s the same feeling he felt all the way back in Chapter 1 before being stopped by Iruka.
All these understandings from Naruto happened without him having a single family member related to him by blood. Which shows how Naruto was very desperate and devoted towards understanding Sasuke’s feelings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whereas this girl was very eager to insult Naruto for not having a proper childhood because he never had any parents.... And she was also willing to cast away her own parents just for the sake of this boy....
She is insulting ‘something’ what Sasuke lost all along... She is insulting ‘something’ what Sasuke found in Naruto...
And that ‘something’ is called Family.
IS SAKURA EVEN CAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING SASUKE ON A SHALLOW LEVEL???? DID SHE PUT ANY EFFORT TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING HIM, JUST A LITTLE BIT???
-
-
-
-
Now.... Do you really think, the author just randomly screwed up Sakura because he didn’t know how to write women characters????
Even if she can be despicable, why is she exactly opposite to Naruto in 12 different instances when it comes to loving Sasuke???
-
-
-
-
Sakura had a dream which was built around a boy which I don’t criticize or bash her for... But Has she put any effort to achieve that dream??? Other than she becoming a Medical Ninja... She didn’t do anything.
She never trusted him completely....
She never tried to understand him...
She wanted to kill him when the entire world turned against him...
She was ready to throw Ino, Tsunade and Naruto under the bus if that act could ‘fetch’ her Sasuke’s dick...
She was even ready to throw away her parents to follow him...
She never cared about his destructive path... She was content as long as she is with him... She enables him in a bad way.
Her dreams of ‘Obtaining Sasuke’ neither helped her nor Sasuke... It ended up being Toxic for both.
-
-
She totally leaned on Naruto to bring Sasuke back to the village and after that she abandoned him... Which shows she used him to achieve her objectives.
It’s no wonder the author said Sakura was ‘addicted’ to Sasuke like a drug junkie...
Sakura’s character is the parody of those girls who looks Meek, Subservient and Innocent.... And claims that they love a boy sincerely and purely by shedding Crocodile Tears and believe that their pure tears would heal her man magically but could never do anything useful that could affect that boy in any positive way.
The author is clearly mocking the girls who believe in these kind of stupid and selfish fantasy through the characters of Sakura & Hinata. And that’s why he wrote them in a despicable way in the hopes that people would notice the selfless love between N and S and that the readers would realize how really bad these girls are...
Since it ended up becoming opposite to what he wanted, he started to endlessly ridicule SS and NH in his own way in Gaiden. Because, he can...
The few things that I liked about her is that she learned good chakra control, become a good medical ninja and she saved Naruto in the war arc by performing CPR.
I got secondhand embarrassment while hearing her use her feelings to stop Sasuke from fighting Naruto which made me give up all hopes for her character.
So, Anon.... You were willing to give a chance for this character till the very end...
I’ll ask you this...
Added to that Chakra control, being a medical Ninja, performing CPR... [[In my opinion, Shizune could do all of these easily... Nothing special from Sakura, though]]
If Sakura was totally selfless enough to offer her life to save Sasuke and die along with him, developed her own Jutsu to the point of harming herself in order to save Sasuke, stood against the entire world to protect Sasuke... Just like Naruto.... Would you have noticed the love between N and S????
Forget about it...
Would you even liked Sasuke, in the first place???... After all the brutal rejection he made after her confession???
I am saying majority of us would’ve ended up hating Sasuke because he insulted Sakura’s love after all that pain she went through. It’s precisely because of that reason many Naruto (the Character) fans hate Sasuke... Because they feel Sasuke was insulting Naruto’s help.
In order to not make that happen, the author precisely picked a Selfish-fangirl character and contrasted her love with Naruto’s Selfless love by mocking her all along.
Even though Sakura is a shit Character, there is a big part of Fandom who wipes her tears even today and claim that she deserved better and all those BS. Not to mention NS and SS were one of the ‘Big 3′ ships in Naruto... I wonder if only Sakura was this badass, sensitive, understanding, strong, kind and selfless character who loved Sasuke intensely just like Naruto.. I doubt many people would even notice SNS....
And this is precisely why the Author made her despicable for 700 Chapters without redeeming her till the very end. Because if people like her so much, Would they notice, I repeat... notice... SNS bond with their Strong Heteronormative Lens???
I seriously doubt it...
I am not at all saying it’s because of Sakura’s inherent Asshole-ness, that SNS looks gay, ‘accidental gay’ and all that nonsense.. NOOO. This is the claim that those antis makes up for their bad ship citing Misogyny and stuff... And am not going to entertain this claim.
I am saying, it’s precisely because of Sakura’s extreme Despicableness and Assholery, Naruto’s love for Sasuke and Sasuke’s favouritism towards Naruto is pronouncedly visible and noticed by many people despite their strong Heteronormative Lens... Otherwise, people would’ve ended up wiping tears for Sakura if only she was pleasant like Rin or strong like Tsunade...
BONUS POINT:
Tumblr media
Sakura didn’t trust Sasuke in Gaiden as well... Her look says it all.
You can expect that Sakura’s Character was going to become some Hermione Granger of Team 7 and get disappointed and resent the Author for it. That’s your choice.
Or
You can ask yourself some right questions like, Tsunade could take Orochimaru on an One-on-One fight who also belonged to the same team, She never wetted for any boy and she had a great dream, Rin could love Kakashi but at the same time she could be a very good friend for Obito... Why Sakura is not like either Tsunade or Rin???
And if you ask these questions and analyze Sakura’s character from Chapter 3 to Chapter 700... You probably might understand that Sakura was a bad character through and through with no scope for any positivity.
It’s one thing to have a great development in the beginning and got reduced into a Doormat towards the very end of the series. But Sakura was always that annoying Doormat and a Bully who is thoroughly repulsive from A to Z.
At the end of the day, she is another valuable plot device to promote and elevate the Bond of SNS by acting as a Gay Shield for Naruto as I talked about it in this post.. [Link], a Third Wheel for Team 7 and a fangirl for Sasuke by remaining despicable all along.  You can like her for who she is... That’s totally fine. But saying, this Girl had lots of potential in this story and the author screwed her up??? Well, I just now proved that this Girl had no potential AT ANY POINT.
To summarize everything...
Naruto was devoted towards his First Bond (Sasuke), his Parent (Iruka), his Master (Jiraiya). Whereas Sakura disrespected/threw away her First Bond (Ino), her parents, her Master (Tsunade) like some trash.
Naruto made his entire life to revolve around Sasuke, despite having a great dream. He made Sasuke as his source of Strength to become stronger and with that power he helped lot of people and that act helped him achieve his dream. And Sakura also made her life to revolve around Sasuke, made him as his source of Strength to become stronger.... But instead of using that power to help other people selflessly... She ended up throwing away everyone and in the process she became irrelevant.
In short, Naruto used his love to become needed by everyone... Sakura used her love to become irrelevant to everyone.
Naruto is Selfless, Considerate, Extremely Grateful and Sensitive whereas Sakura is Selfish, Insensitive, Ungrateful and Self-Centered Bully.
Naruto could always see what’s going on inside Sasuke and that’s why he could always Trust him, Understand him, Stand for him against the entire world. Whereas Sakura saw only what Sasuke poses him to be and hence she could not Trust him and Stand for him.
Apart from being a Gay Shield for Naruto, Sakura’s another purpose for her existence in this story is for the Author to contrast her Selfish love for Sasuke from Naruto’s Selfless love for Sasuke.
Sakura’s love for Sasuke was totally based on the Infatuation.... Whereas Naruto truly loved to the point of not able to live without him.
Kishimoto created a love triangle with Sasuke as the Center Point. Naruto is a good Love Interest whereas Sakura is a despicable one. If Sakura was written as a Good hearted Love Interest just like Naruto, I am sure no one would have noticed Naruto’s love for Sasuke and ended up wiping tears for Sakura...
And that’s why Naruto was written to be LOVED. And Sakura was written to be DESPISED.

I know its just because kishimoto didnt think about it hard enough, but when Hinata lost her position as heir to the Hyuuga to her sister, based on how the hyuuga clan works, she should have had a curse mark placed on her. The curse mark is not only able to inflict extreme, potentially lethal pain on those with them, but also seals the byakugan when they die so that it cant be stolen. As Hinata was no longer the heir and was a genin, a position where she could potentially die in a mission, she should have a curse mark.
Her not having one could have been interesting were it actually explored, like say if it was Hiashi being unwilling to do so to his daughter, but that would mean Kishimoto would have to write Neji’s anger towards Hiashi as justified as opposed to misguided. Kishimoto wanted to frame Hizashi’s death as his choice, even though it was the only choice he had under the system he was placed in. But if its framed as something Hiashi didnt want, as opposed to something inevitable under the system Hiashi benefits from, you can frame Hiashi in a better light.
Its the same with Hinata not having a curse mark. Its that much harder for the audience to forgive Hiashi if he’s even willing to effectively enslave his own daughter. Her having the mark might make Neji’s resentment of her a bit misplaced, but it would mean that both of them have reason to hate Hiashi.
The only other way Hinata not having a curse mark could work if she didnt inherit the byakugan. Neji would still have reason to resent her, as she would have a freedom she does not, but she would still be seen as expendable to the Hyuuga clan and not be the heir. But, you would still have to portray Hiashi as an antagonist long term, which, if Kishimoto intended to maintain the themes about ninja’s being reduced to tools and weapons by those who control them, would have worked.
But instead we get Hiashi near the end of the series saying that the branch and head families of the Hyuuga stand as equals, even as he still has the ability to destroy the brains of branch members with the literal flick of his wrist. As long as Hiashi is still alive, the branch family members cant be free, and thats assuming he never taught Hanabi how to use the curse marks. Boruto seems to imply that the Hyuuga are no longer putting curse marks on branch members, as Himawari doesnt have one, but Hiashi is still alive, and there must be surviving members who still have curse marks, and its just never talked about.

They're calm when they're with each other: What makes their bond so special is that we never see the two of them fight, ever.
They read each other's thoughts: It is undeniable that the new team 7 members share this quality with each other, but mitsusara is even more obvious as seen multiple throughout series. Sarada senses if mitsuki's down quicker than anyone else and mitsuki is the first to tell the change in sarada's mood.
They share same life goal:While sarada wants to become hokage and mitsuki doesn't,he still tries to catch up to her and stand by her side, intending to do what a hokage does which is protect their people.
They have extreme empathy for each other: Mitsuki and sarada are able to understand each other's feelings and or share them with each other.
They respect each other:It seems impossible to see these two babies talk to each other using curses, swears or fighting each other. They are always polite and acknowledge each other as equals.
They agree about important things:It is very rare to see sarada and mitsuki disagree about anything because the two of them are wise and collected individuals.
They balance each other out:Mitsuki is able to maintain his calm under pressure and will calm sarada when she can't cool off. Sarada too can be friendlier compared to mitsuki, who is wary of strangers.
They challenge each other:Sarada wants to improve and perfect herself, and she wants mitsuki to do the same thing. Mitsuki's response is a gentle nod and will make sure to not lose a bet against her.
They are always there for each other:Is there even a need to explain it?
They are each other's biggest fans: While sarada's fangirl side is hidden, mitsuki is indeed the biggest sarada fanboy you can ever find. He'll tell sarada "You're amazing." "You're very smart." "You're pretty strong." with a straight face(or with a cute grin on his face) or to anyone else.
They love to be around each other:You can start watching the series from episode one/ read the manga from chapter one,and then just wake up to reality and ask yourself:"what the hell is up with this two brats?!" Boruto leaves, then we saw sarada and mitsuki take a walk with each other. Sarada is injured?Mitsuki says oh yeah, and decided to keep an eye on sarada. Mitsuki is sick?sarada would take care of him. They like each other alot and they don't need to say it at all. It's just them wanting to be with each other, without trying to hide their true nature. How many times you've seen sarada with mitsuki, when two of them were alone on same screen compared to other characters? It is beyond unfair to compare mitsusara with any other ships because anime producers are secretly shipping these two and portray hundreds if mitsusara scenes(boruto, the shows's protagonist has never had that much scenes with any female or male character to be honest),hell even kishimoto himself used parallels for mitsuki and sarada.

Hello!
Another latest thing I have seen. People tell that the reason Sasuke is the way he is with Sakura (even after they get into a real relationship) is because he doesn’t really respect her like that. Also they tell that she is not the best type of woman who can bring out Sasuke's best to speak.
"Sasuke is the way he is with Sakura"
WHAT WAY are they even talking about??
This way?
Tumblr media
Or this way?
Tumblr media
Or this?
Tumblr media
Or Which FUCKING WAY?
Please ask them to clarify.
"He doesn't really respect her"
Oh...Then I guess, he was just blabbering shit in these scenes, Right?
Tumblr media
The most disrespectful shit that anyone can say about Sasuke is that, he doesn't respect his wife.
"Sakura is not the type of woman who can bring out Sasuke's best to speak"
LOL...Were these people sleeping on these scenes ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sasuke's most famous dialogues in the Naruto Fandom - "Thank You", and '' I am Sorry, for Everything", have been said to Sakura Haruno. His Wife.
According to these Antis, Sasuke becomes OOC in every scene where he is being soft or caring to Sakura, but is IN-CHARACTER, Whenever he is silent around her, even though both scenes are written by the same authors. Because, according to them, they know Sasuke, even better than Masashi Kishimoto himself.
Seriously, They lack even the "BARE MINIMUM" comprehensive skill required to actually make sense.
Also, I don't understand why some utterly stupid people assume that Sasuke and Sakura never talk off-screen.
Boruto is a shonen manga - intended for 13 year olds. This is not some romance manga, where they will show us WHAT HAPPENS IN THEIR BEDROOM.
The mangaka and the animators expect the people to have this "TINY BIT OF COMMON SENSE", that they must have conversations off-screen since they are husband and wife. But, I bet, they have no idea, how unbelievably dumb some people in this fandom can be.
What I find even funnier is, why do people, who don't like this ship, don't understand them and hate the characters involved in the ship, waste so much time overanalyzing their relationship and trying to decode it.
How hard is it to mind one's own business.

I really think Kishi didn't want Sasuke to end up with Sakura, but he was told to make them canon for the next gen series and then wrote Gaiden out of spite. Literally why would you make Sarada look like Karin and have a whole story revolve around who birthed Sasuke's child and why tell us that they haven't kissed (so Sasuke's only canon kiss is Naruto, he remembers the kiss when he almost dies, and he doesn't know it was an accident??).
He also makes it clear how uninterested Sasuke is in his own family... He sees his wife after many years for the first time and says "why are you here?" with a frown. Sarada meets up with him, he almost stabs her, they resolve that misunderstanding, she starts questioning him, he answers by saying it has nothing to do with her. He can't contact his family, but he can contact Naruto, meet up with Naruto, they even do that rival competition thing like Kakashi and Gai (why are you challenging each other for fun and keeping track of it when Sasuke's on an 'important mission' and Naruto doesn't leave work for his family lol), he also takes Boruto on as a student and constantly sees the image of Naruto as a genin superimposed on him.
He really tried his best to make Sakura look bad. After the war Sasuke apologises, thanks her and pokes her forehead... it seems like he's willing to be her friend and then in Gaiden he's cold but they're supposed to be married. Kishi made Sakura look pathetic, telling us she chased after him when she was pregnant (so Sasuke abandoned her again after she got knocked up?), she doesn't know anything about him, doesn't even know if he wore glasses when he was younger, Sarada asks if they're even married and then Sakura punches the ground and destroys her house, this is how Sarada finds out that Sakura put a picture of herself over Karin. Karin sends Sarada her glasses, keeps her umbilical cord and considers Sakura a friend but Sarada doesn't even know who Karin is...
Also Naruto and Sakura have no relationship anymore, they don't interact or banter even when they're in the same scenes. Sarada's first personal conversation with Naruto is when she follows him to see Sasuke, Naruto is the one who answers her questions and tells her about her father, she even wishes Naruto was her father (Boruto has a different experience lol) . It's really odd how Kishi showed us Naruto and Sakura aren't close anymore, but he interacts with every other Team 7 member. He's keeps in contact with Sasuke, Kakashi, Sai and even Yamato, why doesn't he talk to Sakura anymore?
Sorry for the rant... I guess I can see why people would assume SA, but I think it's more like Sakura kept pestering Sasuke, Sasuke was like "You want a child? You know I'm not returning to Konoha anytime soon", Sakura says "that's fine as long as we get married and I can have this piece of you", Sasuke just gives in to her and then either they have impersonal sex or Sasuke takes her to Orochimaru and they have a test tube baby. What's your theory?
i really want the opportunity to talk to kishimoto completely candid so that i can have him read this and give us his answers. like, was he forced to comphet the characters by outside sources, or did he really intend for all of this to happen and for it to be seen as a legitimate relationship?
i think you nailed it in that last paragraph. sakura pestered him, and sasuke either took pity or just wanted her to lay off of him.
another thing i’ve thought was that he could have been insecure, or was having a weak moment about being the last uchiha, and he went to sakura because he knew that she was more than willing to bear his child and figured her his best option. then he regretted it, and felt uncomfortable for having a child that wasn’t conceived out of love. if sarada was conceived naturally, i can’t see it would have happened unless sasuke was at a very low state with his mental health, and i imagine it was not romantic at all.
love the idea of him taking her to orochimaru like she was just a surrogate though lmaooooo

✨✨✨✨✨
yeah!! I like these types of asks!!
I’m going to be doing a bts for one of my fav fics which is Memento :DD
"...But just don’t get hooked on bad women,
Find someone just like me..."
Only noticing this; his mother's last words to him slowly began to resurface in Naruto's memory, as he was currently stranded within a dark cave, in the middle of an ongoing storm, with only Hinata Hyuuga to give him company.
First of all, I just wanna say that I am a sucker for NH blank period. Both after the war and the ten yr time skip. The idea of Naruto unconsciously pining for Hinata is so darn cute to me. Though, I love LOVE The Last, I can’t help but feel as if it was rushed or lacking. idek it lacked build up or a proper, rational explanation as to why Naruto felt that way for Hinata. I don’t like how it came off as “Oh she likes me? Well damn, I think I like her too.” I hated that. I hated how they executed it. I know that wasn’t the context of the story, I know that he realized his feelings for her but idk man, it lacked a lot of shit. At least until I read in a novel that Naruto and Hinata had in fact been hanging out more post war, and gradually became closer to the point of Sakura teasing Naruto about it. I also read up on some fics about Post War Blank Period and I just kinda made my own interpretations and headcanon and bam! problem solved. The idea of Naruto unconsciosly liking her while also becoming really good pals is so.fucking.cute. It’s basically your typical slow burn, friends to lovers. The slowest slow burn in history
I want to know Naruto’s perspective about Hinata so baddd. Like, why’d you choose her? If you never found out she loved you, would you still choose her? And even though the anime never expounded on that, there are some subtle hints about it and I think its really cute. How he just immaturely blurts out how amazing she is or how strong she is. And the fact that he’s the only one to support her way back in the chuunin exams. I love that he’s so dopey about his feelings and how he’s her biggest fan, that I wanted to play around with it. I also saw in the games, Naruto Storm something, that Kakashi and Sakura poked fun at them by playing around and pushing the NH agenda by forcing them to go on missions together. Which is so freaking cute and so definitely canon idc.
And what I LOVE about NH the most is THE MINAKUSHI PARALLELS AJSFLJDK. How Naruto and Kushina are alike, Minato and Hinata are both calm, gentle soft little babies and they just contrast their partners so much aslhdjf. I LOVE THAT!!! This then made me remember about Kushina’s last words. “Find someone just like me” And like, a lot of *coughs* bitter shippers *coughs* misinterpreted that into a literal sense. Even Kishimoto fucking played around with it and I know it was a red herring but cmon man! We’re already on a tightrope here! That gf thingy in the war was so frustrating to watch omg.
And I thought, hey, if you think about it, Naruto really doesn’t know how to grasp the concept of romantic love, the only love he’s been introduced to was either familial or platonic or a brotherly type of love. He knows what it looks like from the outside, (like Sakura being in love with Sasuke type of love) He knows what a crush feels like but he doesn’t know what romantic type of love feels like. You know?? Even Gaara couldn’t differentiate love between “a man and a woman” and love for comrades. No one handed it down to them on a silver platter and you can’t learn this shit in school or in thesaurus, you have to learn from it through experience, like how he learned about love throughout the series. And what better way to teach about it than through his very own mother!
Kushina lecturing Naruto about romantic love and the difference between infatuation and true love is so freaking cute, I could not get that scenario out of my head. He has another dream of her and she just sits him through the difference of loving ramen and loving a real person. She so patient with him when she explains about what she meant by to “find someone just like her” Someone who was willing to go through it all, just like what his parents had done for him. Someone who’d love him unconditionally, just as much as they loved him. Someone who’d see past his bravado and heroic persona and fall in love for that dumb, reckless boy that he is :,)) Kushina would love Hinata so much I just can’t man afjshfs they fucking robbed of this. THEY FUCKING ROBBED US.
I also mentioned Neji since Naruto was hella guilty about his death and it would make sense if Hinata was the one to talk him out of his shithole again. And you know, Neji would actually be the reason why they got closer in the first place. You know LIKE HOW KISHIMOTO FUCKING INTENDED IT BUT NEVER ONCE MENTIONED NEJI AFTERWARDS ALFHJSKGIE. My boi didn’t even get a freaking cameo in The Last T^T. Kishi stop hurting us like this T^T
So in my story, I combined all three factors that could push Naruto to maybe spur something within him about Hinata. I feel like if there was a similar animated episode, a filler or two maybe, where Naruto and Hinata are seen hanging out and slowly becoming closer, that would’ve been such a good segue for The Last and the whole “he realized his feelings for her” plot would’ve made more sense. So yeah, this story was basically how I wanted things to turn out and I’ve made this shit canon in my head now and no one can stop me :DDD Go read it if you want some NH blank period fluff in your life <3

Hiya! I’m sasuledelicatessen- well, I don’t know if you ship SNS but I want to know, if you do, what made you ship them? I want to know your version
Well, it's kind of long.
I've been following the Naruto franchise since 2007 and initially I was into the anime/manga for the action and the unique storyline that it presented, as well as the art-style (I’m a sucker for unique art-style). The concept of Naruto (the character) being the "underdog”, the introduction of ninjutsu and chakra and the integration of Japanese folklore into the story overall what made me sort of a Naruto addict, if you will.
Anyway...
I’ve always thought that the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke were interesting at first in Part 1. When they “accidentally” kissed, at first I thought nothing of it and chalked it up to anime humor, not knowing the huge significance that scene brought (among others) years down the line in their relationship (and the progression of the storyline). Them challanging each other, the playful bickering, teasing each other, I initially chalked it up to the whole “boys will be boys” trope until watching the end episodes in the “Land of Waves” arc of Part I. The way Sasuke sacrificed himself for a boy (Naruto) he barely knew sparked something in their relationship that will change the dynamics of the relationship moving forward...
The reasons why I ship SNS has changed since 2007, although it still stands that the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke are among the strongest bonds in the entire story. Me being a crazed teenager that I was at the time, I initially shipped them because they looked ‘cute’ or ‘hot’ together. This is when I started looking into SasuNaru fanart and fanfiction around that time, because it was such a unique pairing. The Uchiha in general are some of the most beautifully drawn characters I’ve seen, thus far. No wonder it was mentioned that it was hard drawing Sasuke back then, I mean just look at him! And well, Naruto seemed to be the only person that he ever payed attention to in the manga, and actually smiled around (because it takes ALOT to get Sasuke to show any emotion). Their interactions during the Chunin arc, how Naruto showed deep concern for Sasuke during his lowest points (when Itachi attacked Sasuke, etc), how Naruto acted around Saskue sort of sparked new beginnings of a deeper bond than I realized. And it was the same with Sasuke, how he had shared his lunch with Naruto in their first meeting despite consequences, him somehow always to Naruto’s rescue.
VotE1 is what sealed the deal for me then when I noticed that the Sasuke x Naruto bond was deeper than just a friendship. The passion and heartache they had for each other, even as they were fighting was just too intense. Noone that I’ve seen in this story had that much feelings for each other than these two. And when it was over, and Sasuke had this look in his eyes when he saw Naruto unconscious on the ground, I just knew that there was love involved, even when I just looked at their relationship as ‘cute’ ship at the time.
Watching Shippuden to its end, after years of being away from the Naruto fandom, I began to understand what Sasuke went through and how much pain and lonliness he was actually in. The UCM was no joke and it took away what was most important to Sasuke (his family) and destroyed his deep love and admiration for Itachi. At first, I didn’t understand his character, and wrote him of as ‘emo’, annoying and obssesed with his revenge because I truly thought he was ‘ungrateful’ for what he left behind in Konoha *chuckles.* And honestly, I thought Naruto’s obsession with Sasuke was no better and believed he should’ve given up on Sasuke. But then, as I began to truly understand both characters as a whole and their backgrounds, I noticed that they can’t truly live without each other. Naruto’s “I will consume all your hatred and die with you” was said with so much passion and love, it’s hard not to look at them as just “good friends,” although their interactions at this point was more volatile, I could see that Naruto’s admiration for Sasuke grew stronger. Naruto having a panic attack over Sasuke being executed, begging on his knees for forgiveness from the Raikage, Naruto constantly having thoughts of Sasuke’s well-being to the point of obsessiveness, it made me think “ Wow! Naruto must really be in love with Sasuke.” Especially when everyone else (even Sakura of all people) seemed to give up and consider Sasuke “irredeemable.” I was even surprised at some the things Naruto said in regards to Sasuke, thinking it was weird to think of a mere ‘friend’ like this. I always saw their relationship as more twisted, violent and beautiful. Some folks may say their bond was unhealthy and one-sided (on Naruto’s end), but I think in this universe, it seems that way due to the fact that Naruto and Sasuke were both fucked up, emotionally.
During the war arc, when both are reunited, it’s like they were back to being their old selves. Them discovering that they are indeed soulmates (in the most literal sense because they are reincarnations Hagoromo’s sons) demonstrated that both Naruto and Sasuke’s bond transcends beyond friendship and even romance (although it’s fine to look at them as either one). They were like yin and yang, the sun and moon among the stars. In their final battle at VotE2, I looked at it as them getting out their repressed feelings they had for each, because they knew that they cared loved each other too much for them to ‘kill.’ It was at that point in the end of their fight Sasuke felt the most vulnerable, probably since he was child. Other than Itachi, Naruto is the only other person to truly make Sasuke at peace, and knowing that he was never truly alone, even though it seemed that the whole world was against him. Naruto never gave up on him, and knew him on a deeper level than even those that were considered close to them (Sakura, Kakashi, etc.). When Sasuke cried, it showed to me that he was most happy being with the one he loved.
When I heard that Sakura got paired with Sasuke way back, I was very disappointed, not only because it insulted Sakura’s character and eliminated most chances for her to grow as a female character, Sasuke is a type of character that was too complex to just ‘marry off.’ Naruto was more tolerable, even though he never really gave Hinata any deep thoughts other than a friend/comrade. I knew SNS wasn’t happening, no matter the obvious signs and it being the most developed relationship in the Naruto manga. And Kishimoto kept dropping hints all over the place, giving fans hope. A homosexual relationship, even implied, is something the Shonen audience isn’t ready for right now. I do believe Masashi Kishimoto intended to have at least an open ending with the manga because honestly, the so-called “canon” pairings were not well thought out and was rushed. Sasusaku is so unbelievable and poorly written, no wonder it’s not well received among alot of the fans. Sasuke’s character was pretty ruined after Gaiden, because it ruined the potentials for a beautiful relationship (SNS) for a sequel. And so much was left unresolved. It’s all...dissapointing.
Woah! That was long. I hope that answers your question. Long story short, yes I do ship SNS to the nth degree!
