Halloween and cringetober may be behind us, yet I remain, coughing this up onto your back porch. Alec Lisa and Aisha were the only ones who enjoyed the costume party. Individuals and costume explanations below the cut:

Aisha and Brian: Power and Aki Hayakawa Chainsaw Man

This one goes out to the nine-year old I work with who wore a Denji costume for the school Halloween parade. Shoutout to you guy I don't know how you're allowed to watch that its the blood and sexual fantasies show.

I feel like miss suiciding-baiting-people-on-4chan would like Power. Aki works for Brian as they carry the "supposedly normal responsible one of their batshit group who very clearly has something wrong with him" niche of their series.

I feel like CSM is something that Brian and Alec would put on in the background when they were hanging out together. It's not really either of their thing, but it good pizza night fodder. Brian freaks out when Aisha mentions watching it.

Brian agreed to be Aki after he learned he could just wear a suit instead of making a real costume. Brian obviously likes objectively ridiculous costumes but it has to be something strained through 5 layers of machismo and a 17-year-old's idea of professionalism. He'll dress like something that gets painted onto a van but if there's too much whimsy or fun he'll start to freak. So halloween costumes would be weird for him. Aki just wearing a suit and a sword seemed like a good solution for this right up until the point where he had to explain what it was. Its from, hm, y'know, uhhhh this anime that my sister likes I'm just here to match with her.

Whenever he pulls the "I'm just in costume for my sister" thing Aisha makes everyone forget she exists. No escaping the weeb allegations for you Brian.

Taylor and Lisa: Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi, Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Don't know if I need to explain this one, Worm/Madoka comparisons are almost cliche at this point

The costumes were Lisa's idea. Obviously.

The costumes were also Lisa's purchases, and enough was spent on them to make a veteran cosplayer weep. Her refusal to die her hair black would also make them weep but for different reasons.

After taking a look at herself Taylor enveloped herself in a particularly dense bug swarm for the whole night.

She eventually retreated to some side-room she found Brian hiding in and chatted with him for the rest of the party. On the condition that he make a darkness cloud for her.

She started choking on a prawn half an hour in after remembering he could see through his darkness clouds.

Rachel and Alec: Jade Harley and Dirk Strider, Homestuck

They are not going as a matching pair. Rachel does not know that she and Alec are wearing costumes from the same comic. She does not know what Homestuck is. This is one of the many ways she's better than us.

Rachel thinks she should've just been able to wear her usual dog mask for this party. Its a costume. What do you mean it doesn't count.

And why is her usual mask not enough, but the dog ears Cassie was really excited to loan her are fine? Aren't ears less costume than a full mask?

Admittedly apart from the pseudo-mind-control Alec and Dirk don't have a lot in common. Alec probably thinks he's more like Dirk than he actually is.

Dirk is if the concept of being in your own head was a guy, nay several guys, while Alec literally has to outsource getting in touch with his emotions to other bodies. Honestly the closest worm character to Dirk would probably be Krouse, considering the whole "chessmaster-manipulator who puts everything on himself and overmanages all his relationships while self-identifying as the person who can handle being the bad guy" thing, which Alec doesn't have going on at all. However:

It let me put Alec in a silly little fancylad outfit.

(Also they're both SB&HJ fans, so honestly I think its the perfect choice).

Cringetober #3 - Unnecessarily complex fit! A bit late, but I still had fun with it! Too... Much fun seeing as, again, this was supposed to be simple but I ended up going totally ham on it. Oh well, helps pass the time while my brain is still scrambled eggs from being sick.

I don't have much to say aside than I LOVE Scene Misty's whole design. She's... Perhaps not exactly true scene, but has some essence of it with the rainbows and patterns and many decorations. (So sad you can't see the GIR keychain in this one </3) ...And it's what people have been calling this design, so I'll use that name too. I remember while designing her I was just thinking of things I myself think are cool to add, and stuff Misty would probably like wearing!

Also, another fun fact, when I was a kid and Ms Paint scene cats were all the rage - something I couldn't replicate yet - my main oc was a cat with a side-kick who lived on a tiny cloud that followed them, the cloud changing on their emotions! I now always have an association with clouds and that era, so... Misty here's an total delight to say the least :) Again, a very self-indulgent thing about something close and dear to my heart.

Hi! I was wondering if you had pitches for writing ideas/formats/elements that are frequently considered “cringe”. I saw a one-a-day prompt calendar that was cringetober (credit to icryink, original idea sleepran). But it was specifically visual art.

I loved the idea of doing a similar calendar of writing prompts for myself. I’m trying to establish a daily writing practice. One of my biggest hurdles is how strict my mental editor can be. Trying to deliberately be cringe seems like it would be freeing.

The issue is I have no barometer for what is considered cringe. All I’ve been able to come up with on my own is Mary-sue, 2nd person POV, and self-insert. I would love and appreciate cringey ideas!

Wanting to Write Cringe For Fun

I want to start by saying that none of these things... second-person, Mary Sues, and self-inserts are cringey by default. They're cringey when done poorly. (And it's worth revisiting the concept of Mary Sues because it turns out there's a lot of misogyny wrapped up in the concept.)

As far as what else is considered cringe, that's really hard to say. Some people find love triangles to be cringey, other people love them. Some people find 100-year-old vampires falling in love with teenagers to be cringey, but that doesn't stop Twilight and The Vampire Diaries from having millions of fans.

You can try Googling lists of fiction cliches, like "The 10 Worst Cliches in Fantasy" or "YA Cliches We're Tired of" for some ideas. You could also look for lists of taboos.

I think the point is more about what makes you cringe, so what do you find cringey?

i used to get really annoyed looking for fanart of characters and only seeing like. mlp versions of them. and i liked mlp. i just wanted fanart of wheatley from portal 2 and i wanted him to not be a horse. anyways in honor of my past annoyance i am horsing some of my little guys :^)

u can’t see any cutie marks aside from coop and columbo, and coopers is just. i just needed to put something there man. columbo’s, tho, is a little magnifying glass with a 1+ in it,, bc he’s always finding just one more thing? get it,,?? oh yeah and data just doesn’t have a cutie mark. i feel like it makes sense for him to not have one but i’m not elaborating on that.

also don’t ask why mulder is a pegasus the more i think about it the less it makes sense but it’s all on one layer now and i can’t change it :,^(

caught up with cringetober because I literally forgot to do it, individuals and explanations under cut

Day 1: Heterochromia I’ve come to the revaluation that my sona is already cringe as hell considering not only can his entire body change color but he also has differently colored eyes as a staple of his design. They’re usually yellow and blue but this time I color picked the blue from the trans flag and the mint from the Vincian flag for this color palette, it turned out really pretty :)

Day 2: Self Insert Now she isn’t my self insert anymore, but back in the day when I was at “peak cringe” she definitely was. This is my warriors OC Icypelt and I have a post going over part of her story on my profile somewhere. She’s been through a lot and I think her modern design is very pretty :)

Day 3: Unnecessarily complex fit/design Spider scene is kinda infamous in my brain for having wayyy too much detail but I love them and I think this might be my favorite one out of this batch, super cute, the pose is really cute and the colors are nice and fits her really well :D

day 4: Angel x Devil inevitable MCR reference ik, Helena and Revenge, love them dearly. Poor revenge man this one is cute and looks like a sticker!!

Day 6 (I skipped day 5 because I didn’t want to open up ms paint today): neko i kinda hate this one but cat Gerard yay

Day 7: Pinterest base at first I wanted to draw hobie in place of Gwen but I remembered that I haven’t really drawn Mikey with her even though they’re supposed to be friends so I drew her instead. Idk. The height difference is not accurate because of that but Jumping Spider is small because he’s based on a jumping spider and those are tiny who would have thought

Day 8: tumblr sexyman i have never played undertale a day in my life i just know a lot of people wanted to jump sans’ bones

Day 11: Yandere LYLA is technically canonically a yandere because spoiler alert she tried to kill Miguel’s fiancé via overheating her in the shower (essentially literally boiling her like a lobster) because she was “in love” with him (she said if she did have autonomy and had feelings the would be in love with him but she doesn’t but idk who knows I don’t).

day 12: niche interest ik MCR isn’t exactly “niche” but the black parades story in particular has always caught my interest and I have my own interpretation of it and a whole kind of story I’m still developing and character arcs and headcanons and interactions and yeah you get it, death in particular has evolved into god knows an OC on his own I just keep him attached to MCR because… it makes more sense that way, ig-

day 13: creepypasta does this count- whatever grimdark is just the same thing as a creepypasta- I’m not really in the MLP fandom anymore but it was my first ever “fandom” I was actually apart of. My first hyperfixation if you will. I wasn’t in the grimdark part of the fandom because I was too young for it but I was actually watching the izzzyzzz grimdark video and I was like “oh” and drew a rainbow factory Rainbowdash. Honestly I should draw ponies more they’re fun to draw

Day 14: candygore (?) im not good at drawing candygore and since I was rushing this o didn’t do it as well as I thought I can, but it still turned out pretty cool

Of all the protogen models I've used, this one seems to have the most balanced stats. Their jump is atrocious though for some reason. Not much to say on this one.

Slenderman

Just thought this was kinda funny. His noodly arms make him way weaker than you'd think. Still pretty strong though! He is, as one would expect, hella tall. Find my Pages.

Explorer Robot

This thing is FAST. Takes a second to get up to speed, but when it's going, it's uncontrollable. I'm really bad at drawing robots, so it's a bit garbage.

Buff Synth (From Random Avatars)

As I was drawing him I realized he is unreasonably sexy. Like seriously! I'm not gay (I think) but I want this robot to slam me against the wall. His stats are actually decently balanced, just a bit slow, so he's a delight to play as. My art does not do him justice.

Spectrum Umbreon (F)

Left it up to a coin toss whether I would use M or F. I'm so glad it landed on F because she is absolutely adorable. She's a little frail, but she is so fucking cute I don't care. She is a treasure and I would maim anyone who dares hurt her.

Zoroark

Those noodly arms have practically no strength. Like you can not climb with this Pokemon at all. Decent jump, but that's all you have for vertical mobility. It's actually hilarious. I love Zoroark, but their proportions just don't lend themselves to climbing. Also I just realized I messed up the caption AAAAAAAAAAA.

CRINGETOBER DAY 4: ANGEL X DEVIL

actually HAD made an ophanim DJMM before, (though now that i look at the original drawing i am very off) so obviously now that its angel x devil time i'm bringing him back. I less tried to make a ophanim look like DJ but like. Turn DJ into the relative surrealness of the ophanims. He's emanating the purple-white pattern from his body, there's no head, only his teeth, and even though several eyes have a psychedelic effect, many hands have a similar effect, too

But we've all seen how weird bible accurate angels are. What about how surreal bible accurate demons are, too???

This one, I was not very creative on. I very directly just ripped off this guy from the Dictionnaire Infernal, but can you blame me? This is perfect. its too perfect.

i think this is the most embarrassing thing ive ever drawn. im making it my header image.

and omg! biggie likeness reveal!! but in the iconic howl outfit of course. (technically as i post this my nails arent painted and my hair isnt purple but its just because i need to repaint/redye them so. i do look like this regularly. the only real difference is that i transgendered my proportions a little bit, as is my right as an artist.) also i know he doesnt wear this in this scene AND i didnt really match the background or pose from the scene at all but idc i just put together all the stuff i liked into one drawing. happy cringetober

I just love cringetober 2023 for giving me the opportunity to draw stuff I’d probably never draw willingly in my own free time… slutty cat-man bleeding melting candy??? honestly, this was too much fun

the prompt: day 14 — candygore! I have never even heard the word before seeing it on the list. had to consult google and was actually going to pass this one, due to having no knowledge and, frankly, no interest in this whole uhhh thing(?), BUT THEN. like lightning out of the clear blue sky, destielconfession (yes, that’s his name) appeared before my eyes! countless hours spent watching drawfee resulted into me remembering that he’s supposed to be candy themed/coloured (???) (can you plainly see that all I know about neopets comes from drawfee, or more accurately one particular member of drawfee?) anyway, I thought he fit the vibe, so I went with it! thank you, karina from drawfee (she’s on tumblr, check her out!!), for this guy, who helped me to fulfil the prompt!)))

Cringetober 2023, Day 20: Hanahaki Disease

Summary: Aziraphale gifts Crowley an Orchid for his fake birthday and Crowley finds himself coughing up orchid flowers whenever he tries to say something insulting about his angel.

Story:

Crowley did not have a birthday, being that he predated time. But he did celebrate the birthday of the M25 as if it was his own birthday. He wrote it down when he forged legal documents. He got himself a present (it was always another house plant). It went out for an opulent dinner and a slice of cake.

For a few years now, he’d invited Aziraphale to join him for the dinner and cake. They’d get into reminiscing about the good and terrible work that they’d each accomplished during this rotation around the sun. They’d get very drunk toasting another year, and that would be it.

This year, Aziraphale brought him a present. Crowley stared at the plant it had the lush waxy leaves of a house plant. But from its center sprouted a stem covered in colorful geometric blooms. Crowley was looking at an orchid.

“What the devil is this monstrosity?” Crowley said.

“It’s an orchid,” Aziraphale supplied helpfully. “You must have seen them before.”

“Of course I have!” he downed his drink. “But why have I been given it?”

Aziraphale looked confused. “It’s a house plant. You collect them.”

“Not one’s that do that.” he waved at the pretty multicolored blossoms.

“Flower?”

“Well, don’t say it like that.”

“Like what?”

“Like it’s normal.”

“But it is normal for a plant to flower.”

“Not the kind I have. I don’t need any of that nonsense in my flat.”

Aziraphale raised an eyebrow. “What exactly do you think It’s going to do?”

“Nothing good.” Crowley sunk grumpily down into his chair.

“All it will do is look pretty,” Aziraphale said.

“Exactly,” said Crowley, but he knew he’d already lost the argument.

Crowley put the orchid in pride of place beside his bed. He knew it was a slippery slope but he couldn’t stop himself. If only he could go back to being the accomplished demon that watched Maggie Thatcher speak lovingly of the M25, his greatest creation. Now he was a demon with a pretty flower in his bedroom.

“You’re not—“ he struggled to find a way to insult the flower. “as beautiful as you could be. You’re like a peacock with its tail all folded up.” Crowley cringed. He’d never uttered such a weak insult to any flora.

“If you don’t grow well, I’ll—“ Crowley scrambled for a threat. “Tell Aziraphale on you.” This was hopeless. Crowley was giving up for the night.

He wandered his flat. He made some evil plans, watched late night tv for a while. He ended up back in front of the orchid.

“Aziraphale had terrible taste picking you out,” Crowley lied. Something stuck in the back of his  throat. For a brief terrible moment, Crowley was worried that it was emotion. But then he coughed and something tumbled out of his mouth. It was a flower. It was an orchid. Shit.

For days, anything cross Crowley said about Aziraphale resulted in him coughing up flowers. It had to be some kind of curse. Crowley had consulted experts. He’d even read several scholarly books. He couldn’t figure out the cause.

His condition worsened when he was in proximity to said angel. Crowley was running out of excuses to avoid him. He’d resorted to telling Aziraphale that he couldn’t walk around the park with him because he had a very important meeting with Hastur. HASTUR! No one had ever had a meeting with that demon that could be described as important.

Crowley was miserable. He didn’t feel guilty for lying to Aziraphale (guilt was not an emotion meant for a demon of Crowley’s caliber). But he did miss the angel. It had been a rather long time since they’d gotten to catch up. 

In his misery, Crowley had a prolonged fit of flower-coughs. He wrapped himself in a blanket and sunk miserably into an armchair by the window. He thought Idly (as he had many times before) that he ought to throw the orchid out and see if that helped. He couldn’t bring himself to do it.

There was a polite knock at the door. Before Crowley could tell his visitor to shove off, the lock, miraculously, clicked open. Aziraphale walked in and made his way over to Crowley. Relief stretched across the angel’s face.

“Thank goodness! I thought you might have been kidnapped.” The angel sank down into an open chair.

“Not a chance, you right invasive pr—“ Crowley felt flowers crowding out the air in his throat. He sealed his lips close to hold them in.

“You could have just told me you weren’t feeling well,” Aziraphale pointed out, a little hurt by Crowley’s lies. Then it occurred to him, “Although, we’re not really human. And we shouldn’t get sick. So, I’m not entirely clear on what’s happening to you.”

Crowley clenched his teeth against the build up of flowers, shaking his head no.

“This is getting ridiculous, Crowley!”

Crowley was starting to choke. He didn’t need air the way humans did, but there was a finite volume inside his lungs. An involuntary spasm tore through his body and he coughed bunches of flowers into the room.

Aziraphale blinked. “Those are orchids.”

He didn’t know if it was the flowers or the pressure of the million nice things he wanted to say about Aziraphale. “I love you and I wouldn’t want to do any of this divine plan, celestial nonsense without you.”

“I love you too,” Aziraphale casually said, like it was perfectly obvious. And that made the orchid flowers stop trying to strangle him from the inside. 

Crowley could breath again. He looked at all the orchid flowers around them and thought to himself, ‘They really are pretty.’

serpentine who dave found and befriended after going under the city one too many times, he ended up convincing her to join his school. She is now studying political science also has no common sense, she's very friendly and ended up befriending most of the school, just like her boyfriend she's an extrovert and she will accompany you all the way to your house after a party to make sure youre safe
