heres a collection of concept art for the rest of the entities for the mythos au!! if you're wondering where the eye is, they've been drawn already!
they are all FAR from done. keep in mind these are all just my initial concepts and i plan to do in-depth design sheets as i go to explore their designs more.
IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO IMPROVE THESE DESIGNS PLEASE THROW EM AT ME- MY ANON IS OPEN AND I READ TAGS I DONT CARE JUST!!!! GIMME!!!!!
(also au context: the magnus mythos is an au where the entities are all gods, similar to various religious mythology, rather than paranormal entities that feed on fear)
design thoughts for each of them under the cut
The Web - God of Fate (she/it): im pretty happy with her design atm, shes meant to be a half spider half woman thing and i love that for her. shes probably the one ive thought the most on so far given her importance to the story. i want her to wear silks and shiny silver jewelry that just sparkles like wet spiderwebs do, not sure if im gonna keep the veil?
The Dark - God of the Dark (she/he/it): probably my weakest concept at the moment. it doesnt do the dark any justice. i mean i like the cloak idea but i want them to be very tendrilly, all consuming, shadowy, but i dont know how to properly portray them :/
The Desolation - God of Destruction and Fire (they/it): i have a neat vision for them! i want them to be made of coal and ash and smoke, to be burning and glowing on the inside, and their body is decorated with melted wax to look like clothes. not quiiiiiite sure about how their melty candle dress is now? i want it to be less constrictive
The Stranger - God of the Unknown and the Whimsical (he/she/they/it): it's meant to be this. weird wirey creature hidden behind masks and a lot of fabrics, like the framework of a poseable plush doll? i like the way the masks look but im not so sure about the body.
The Vast - God of the Above (she/he/they/it): im not so sure about his design at all im gonna be real. i want them to look like the atmosphere and be covered in clouds and have mountains for feet and an ocean cape but i feel like it might be a bit?? idk??? im just not that happy with it :/
The End - God of Death and Time (they/it): ugh i love this concept sm, making death read as less scary and more divine is so fun. theyre based on a seraphim and a sand timer,
The Buried - God of the Underneath (she/he/they/it): ANOTHER OF MY FAVORITES!!!! i love them. theyre inspired by hermit crabs!! and they have silver chains holding their shell to them. they look so endearing with their lil lopsided eyes ;; <3
The Flesh - God of the Body and Meat (she/he/they/it): i have so many ideas for the flesh y'all- im very excited to do a concept sheet for them. theyre meant to have no skin, just exposed bone and muscle, large limbs, hooves, exposed heart underneath a ribcage, teeth that close around their abdomen. white bandages that wrap around like clothes. a teeth/horn crown? i dont quite know whether to go for a more animalistic look or a more human one? like- theres so many ways to go with him idek!!!
The Hunt - God of Predators and Pride (they/it): see, i like this design but i feel like its too werewolf like? yknow? thats cool!! but itreads more monster to me than God :/
The Corruption - God of Nature, Rot, and Disease (she/they/it): i love this weird bug thing. this one i was really inspired for (mostly because. corruption aligned. so obviously im gonna think about this one alot) theyre this weird bug thing, the veil is inspired by the one from the art on the wiki! i want to maybe make them a bit more gross and weird because nature is like that sometimes, a moot on tiktok suggested that i add animal bones!! and i think thats SO smart im absolutely going too
The Spiral - God of the Incomprehensible (it/its): this weirdo is so hard to pin down istg. i imagine them as this spiral thing. body is kindof liquidy, arms are spindly and long, multiple shifting faces, overall just constantly changing and moving and like!!! how am i meant to draw that??? when my brain cant even wrap my head around what its supposed to look like yknow??? bruh jrdbhgfjdldgfh- that being said i think the main problem with the design is that it just gives me too many Michael vibes!!! is it the hair? the arms? its probably both.
The Lonely - God of Solitude and the Self (they/it): i like what this one has going so far! theyve got fog hair, fog tears, their body is meant to be splotchy like turquoise marble, i vibe with it so hard. not so sure what to do with their outfit tho :/
The Slaughter - God of War (he/they/it): another one of my more stronger designs i think! centaur with weapons sticking into them, face concealed, medieval armor and antlers- it vibes
the extinction isnt drawn because i literally have no idea what they should look like aside from color palette-
once again any and all suggestions will be taken!!!! i need ideas!!! plese!!!!

The best worldbuilding decision a writer can make in my opinion is to add fucked up gods or eldritch beings that are worshipped as if they were gods.

Howdy. I’m sick rn and very bored so if anyone sees this, you should send me an ask. Like send me literally anything. Tell me about a weirdly specific opinion, or your really niche special interest. Consider this an excuse to send me five paragraphs of the elaborate lore of a thing you like. Ask me about my various interests if you want (Kirby/analog horror/tma, ect). I just love to talk and I want something to do.

I swear it was like 5 am when the dots connected but why is every modern good horror content creator named Alex? Like we have Alex Kister, Alex Hirsch, Alexander j Newell etc. Are they AHC (assigned horror creator) at birth??? Im definitely on a bit of a whim here but you know what they say one is a coincidence, two is a pattern and three is fvcking run.

After thinking about it, I think I've identified why trying to assign TMA style fear affiliations to Cthulhu Mythos entities irks me so much.
It feels reductive.
Using the big man Tulu himself as an example: he's most definitely affiliated with the Spiral in the sense that dreams and unreality play heavily into him (like all Mythos entities imho), but there's definitely the Vast in there too with the impossible scale he's operating on. Additionally, after spending a millenia under high pressure in the ocean, I can't deny that the Buried has some aspect to him, and the Cthulhu Cult's stated goal is to form "new ways to shout and revel and kill" - which is Slaughter affiliation if I've ever seen it.
Even Cthugha, which is one of the least developed entities and has a certain level of "this is just the Desolation" to it also has additional associations of Vast and Extinction in my brain.
Saying there's a 1:1 entity thing feels like a disservice to the mythos beings, and saying one is an avatar of a TMA fear entity drives me up the wall 99% of the time because of the previous reasons, and that all of them pre-date TMA significantly to the point where Johnny Sims has cited Lovecraft's work as inspiration.

Being a fan of the Magnus archives and also playing call of Cthulhu is such a weird headspace to be in. On one side im assigning fear entities to everything and trying to mentally join them to tma and on the other side im just trying to stay alive as an extremely squishy investigator. Its the closest I’ve gotten to understanding the archives crew and the decisions they all made.
Looking at my once upstanding well put together character and his decline into insanity and the Jon parallels as i say this but Jon Archivist Sims is a call of Cthulhu (or a similar rpg) character and thats the hill im gonna die on today!

hello gay people. i mentioned awhile back about a possible concept for a tma au but its mixed with mythology/religion based stuff. i have since finished this chunk of concept/reference art of the Ceaseless Watcher for this au!!!
im dubbing it: The Magnus Mythos!! please talk to me about it i am insane
putting my rambling au nonsense under the readmore!!!!!
edit!!!: new mythos post just dropped :3
alright- bare with me because my thoughts are everywhere lol
random various au information:
the fear entites are instead more general gods, much like those from various mythologies (greek, norse, egyption, etc.) like the eye, rather than an entity that feeds on the fear of being watched, is rather the god of knowledge and sight!
all of the gods have influence over the world, some mortals will devote themselves to one specific god entirely, others will become devout to multiple, and some will simply be neutral among all 14 and live life out as they please.
avatars are mortals who have been blessed with power by the gods while creatures (like mr spider, the not them, etc) are simply beings who have been born into the world by the gods power seeping into it. artifacts are items that have either been blessed/cursed by the gods or avatars, or have been affected by the gods power seeping into the world also.
theres multiple sects, cults, and churches for each god much like how many real life religions have different sects with their own rules and standards. some have beef, others do not.
the gods themselves are entirely morally neutral, they have their own interconnected relationships with eachother, and kind of view mortals as pets in a way, picking favorites and seeing them as of lesser importance in comparison to themselves.
since the gods here arent necessarily evil and theyre actually sentient beings, their titles are changed to be more fitting (the mother of puppets -> the mother of fate as an example)
the story is set in an era resembling the early 1900s because idk. vibes are neat i guess
thats all the basic world building crumbs for now, ill go deeper into it when i have more art and story stuff ready!
for now- heres some actual lore :3c
Jonah magnus is basically eye jesus. thousands of years prior to the start of the story, the eye favored him and he became a messiah of sorts.
the House of Magnus is a church sect of the eye founded in what is now london. but it doesnt operate JUST as a simple church. many sects of the eye devote themselves to gaining knowledge of the world around them and the House of Magnus is no different there. operating with a library, research centre and all. the research not just on history and knowledge, but also the holy and divine. documenting stories that deal with the divine powers and researching cursed/blessed artifacts aswell.
its a common legend that if one tells their story under the eyes watch (either in a church of the eye or directly to an avatar of the eye) that theyll receive good fortune and foresight, and since the House of Magnus has become a well known sect of the eye, many will come far and wide to detail their accounts under its roof
all of this documentation leads down to the Magnus Mythos, a large archive under the church where the written documents are filed, curated and cared for by the head Archivist. as such, the position of Archivist has become a most sacred role among worshippers of the eye comparable to the head of the church itself.
they arent just revered for their care of the mythos (though the devotees of the eye view the care of documented knowledge to be a sacred and ever important responsibility) Theres a prophecy, hand woven by the Mother of Fate herself, one that states an ordinary archivist will one day be gifted by all 14 of the gods and awaken the great change, bringing about a new and blessed age.
but is this newest archivist even ready for such pressure and commitment? and what if the prophecy is more devious than one might think?
oooOOOOoooOO mysterious lore- i know this is heavily self indulgent but i refuse to apologize for that because im havin FUN. if you read all of that just know i love you so much and i hope you liked it ;w; im very excited and ive been working on archivist +archival assistant lore for the past few days and im excited to do art for them ;_;

In honor of it being Spooky Season, I wanted to share some of my horror writing I've done! I've never shared my writing on here I think, so I just wanted to show some fun stuff I've done!
Sambucus- so this started as my entry for the Rusty Fears writing competition, hosted by the company Rusty Quill back in 202...1 I think? That I turned into a statement fic, however I hated the statement lead in/lead out but I liked the story itself, so I took it off and now its more an original piece of body horror. It's about a chronically ill person who wakes up to find strange scars on their body corresponding with the body parts that don't work right, and that their chronic illness symptoms have begun to disappear.
CW/TW: Non-consensual Surgery (not graphic, implied), Body Horror, Blood, Non-consensual Body Modification (implied, not graphic), Chronic Illness (mentioned, not graphic)
Dark Young- a 300 word drabble (?) written from the perspective of one of the offspring of Shub-Niggurath, musing on the cult it's attached itself to and their (and its) relationship to its mother. I originally wrote this for Tale Foundry's first ever writing stream, where the prompt was "Loving Eldritch Parents", it was read on stream in October of 2019, and it's honestly one of the things im most proud of.
CW/TW: Cults, Use of Humanity as Playthings, Lovecraft Mythos, Could be Read as Child Neglect (kind of? In the context of Eldritch Abominations so take it with a grain of salt), one (1) mention of spiders but its not detailed
Cult of Shadows- I'm not entirely sure how to explain this guy but the best way I can explain it is the Darkness musing on humanity and their fear of it. This one is also a 300 word drabble-type thing written for a Tale Foundry stream that was also read on stream in 2019, I'm not as proud of it but I do like the vibes. The monster is *vaguely* based on the Vashta Nerata from Doctor Who, all though this isn't a fanfic of it or anything.
CW/TW: Humanity as a food source (not graphic, mentioned), darkness/fear of the dark, mentions of spiders (brief, not detailed)
Obviously you're under 0 obligation to look at any of these, but if you do please feel free to let me know what you think, I'm very new to horror writing and all of these are fairly old so I'm sure there's a lot I can improve on!

The Magnus Archives
Season One Notes and Speculation
Main Cast
Spoilers for Season One Below the Break!!!
Martin Blackwood- Helper for Jonathan whom he doesn’t like. Speaks Polish and Jonathan has disdain for his Latin. Claustrophobic. “Blessed relief if you ask me.” Jon about Martin being out with a stomach sickness. Martin comes back in MAG 21, Freefall with squishy squelchy stuff that Jon reacts to with “God- Martin!! What the hell is- what are these things?!” Ran into Jane Prentiss in MAG 22, Colony in which he stays holed up in his house for 13 days as Jane and her parasites kept trying to get in. He is invited to stay in the room Jon sleeps in during late nights post his incident. He feels stuck in the web of the archive. Jon thought he was a ghost in Infestation (MAG 39). He writes poetry and thinks tapes have a sort of lofi charm. It’s why he has the extra recorder. He feels incredibly guilty over leaving Tim and Jonathan in the tunnels, starting to tear up over it after apologizing in Human Remains (MAG 40).
Elias Buchard- The head of the Magnus Institute, doesn’t want Jonathan and crew looking into the Lukas family because they fund the institute. He hates Jonathan more than Martin and thought the parasites were an over reaction in Infestation (MAG 39).
Sasha James - Helper for Jonathan whom he doesn’t mind. Sets off the fire alarm to try and survive the worms. She joined as a practical researcher. Wishes she could’ve quit ages ago. She finds the table with the crazy geometric patterns and then the tape recorder glitches. Infestation (MAG 29). A feminine voice says into it afterwards “I see you.” The scream heard on tape is Jane Prentiss dying as seen in Human Remains (MAG 40).

A feminine voice says into it afterwards “I see you.” The scream heard on tape is Jane Prentiss dying as seen in Human Remains (MAG 40).
Jonathan Sims- Head of the Magnus Archives, rather detached. This being said in Colony (MAG 22) he is shown to have started turning over a new leaf as he offers Martin his room in the archives. In Skintight (MAG 28) he shows an improvement in people skills as he treats the statement giver with a bit more respect than Naomi. He is adamant about not becoming another mystery, to make sure his successor knows exactly what happened. Infestation (MAG 39). Feels like he’s being watched when he records real statements. He also used to smoke according to Elias.
Tim Stoker - Helper for Jonathan whom he slowly seems to grow a distaste for, remaking he’s thankful for him being out of the office. He’s into Robert Smirke’s architecture as of A Distortion (MAG 26). Found tunnels in the archives and went crazy with gas to kill the worms in Infestation (MAG 39).
Other Characters
Sebastian Adekoya- Friend of Jared Hopsworth who delivers MAG 17, Bone Turner’s Tale. Died 2006, crushed on the road.
Angela- Witch from MAG 14 Piecemeal who slowly devoured the parts of Lee Rentoul and Paul Noriega through cardboard boxes with severed articles of various body parts
Asag- Fire mythos thing from First Aid
Sarah Baldwin- Victim of the Angler Fish (MAG 1) who later reappears in Skintight (MAG 28) being super quiet and also talking with a shadowy figure. She seems to remove her skin and then pull it tight and staple it quite regularly.
Breekon and Hope- The delivery boys from the end of one of the mags that give Jon a spider web lighter. Anatomy Class (MAG 34).
Antonio Blake- The Dreamer from MAG 11 Dreamer who saw a strange version of London and Gertrude dying in TMA FAKE NAME, KEEP EYES OUT
Edwin Burrowes- Catholic priest from Burnt Out. In Confession (MAG 19) he says a prayer in the house and feels heat. Then he starts to pray for himself and a demonic presence says through him “I am not for you. I am marked.” He proceeds to eat a human at the ushering of some unknown figure in Desecrated Host (MAG 20)
Michael Crew- Returned The Bone Turner’s Tale to Chiswick Library in MAG 17, The Bone Turner’s Tale
Harriet Fairchild- Went skydiving with Simon in MAG 21, Freefall. Said Robert was gone for 15 mins.
Simon Fairchild- First shows up in MAG 21, Freefall and tells Robert to “Enjoy sky blue” before sending him to a weird groundless realm. Robert Kelly is then later ate by the sky.
Raymond Fielding- Housed many people on Hilltop Road and was missing his right hand when he died
Trevor Herbert- Killed vampires for a living and died of lung cancer in the lobby in Vampire Killer (MAG 10). Dead as restated in Taken ill (MAG 36)
Naomi Herne- First ever person to make a statement with Jonathan and survived the Lukas’ in her ep, MAG 13 Alone
Timothy Hodge - Man who slept with Harriet Lee and heard her explode. DEAD AS OF A Distortion (MAG 26) for got turned into hive meat.
Jared Hopsworth- Friend of Sebastian Adekoya who assaults him consistently, first mentioned in MAG 17 The Bone Turner’s Tale. He, for instance, turns over an entire cart of returned books. He takes the book and runs out. He comes back later in the episode with more bones. And apparently more limbs
Mary Keay- Gerry Keay’s mother
Gerard (Gerry) Keay- Burns the Lightner books (seen in Page Turner) and was found covered in eyes and burn marks in MAG 12 First Aid. He puts a stop to the invisible flame.
Moira Kelly- Sees her son Robert Kelly get ate by the sky in MAG 21, Freefall
Robert Kelly- Simon Fairchild tells him to enjoy sky blue and then he gets ate by the sky in MAG 21, Freefall
Melanie King- Ghost hunter who sees Sarah Baldwin do her skin tricks in Skintight (MAG 28).
Jergner Leitner- Book maker and has a library, seen in Page Turner. Reseen in MAG 17 The Bone Turner’s Tale. Actually seen as a man in Old Passages (MAG 35) in which he asks people to dig underground.
Evan Lukas- Fell in love with Naomi Herne and then died.
Nathaniel Lukas- Owns the boating company for the Tundra as of Boatswain’s Call (MAG 33).
Peter Lukas- Captain of the Tundra as seen in Boatswain’s Call (MAG 33).
Agnes Montague- Witch lady with the hand tied around her with a chain, died the same day as the tree getting pulled down and apple melted
Julia Montork- Daughter of Robert Montork and witness of MAG 9- A Father’s Love
Jane Prentiss- Red dress lady from Squirm. She seems to be a hive for parasites and is no longer the actual Jane Prentiss as of Colony (MAG 22). She uses Martin’s phone in that episode to pose as him while trying to Squirm him. She says at the end through his phone, “Keep him. We have had our fun. He will want to see it when the archivists crimson fate arrives.” A statement by her exists somewhere in the archives. Hive (MAG 32) has her explaining how she felt itchy all the time and all the holes throughout her. “You can see it, and log it, and still never understand it.” Presumably she becomes what she is today after sticking her arm into the nest and screaming out in pain. She dies due to Elias making the CO2 go off in Human Remains (MAG 40).
Joseph Rainer - The man who survived the shell blast with Wilfrid in The Piper (MAG 7).
Maxwell Rainer- First appearance is MAG 9 in which he is described as the “defrocked pentecostal leader” who became a cult figure for The People’s Church of the Divine Host
Gertrude Robinson - Former Archivist, died, presumably in The Archives. Oh boy! So, in Burnt Offering (MAG 37) it is revealed her hair and image was used in some twisted altar thingy and a dude who smashes a bottle there has all his things go up in flames.
Lesere Saraki- Nurse from MAG 12 First Aid who feels watched after the incident in the hospital
Mikaele Selesa- First appears in Piecemeal (MAG 14) where he tries to sell something to Norigea. Reappears in Lost and Found (MAG 38) as he sells Andre Ramao a vase.
Michael Shelly- “How would a melody describe itself when asked?” He needs help, likes giggling at Sasha. Says that the hive (Jane Prentiss) is rash. Knew Jon, Tim, and Martin’s names. Shows how to kill the worms in A Distortion (MAG 26).
Robert Smirke- An architect. He worked for Jergner Leitner to build an underground club as seen in Old Passages (MAG 35).
Nathaniel Thorp- Immortal being from Cheating Death (MAG 29)
Places, Concepts, and Organizations
Breekon and Hope Deliveries- Company that takes away the coffin from MAG 2 Do Not Open. Also the same company that gives the church the pale yellow stool in MAG 20, Desecrated Host.
Formula of Sacred Geometry- The intricate patterns we’ve been seeing that Jonathan says there are different schools
Hill Top Road- The place where Burnt Out takes place, had the apple underneath the bleeding tree in the intricate pattern box
The Magnus Institute- Founded 1818, has a series of tunnels under its building and seems to slow the horrors when inside its building.
Open Skydiving- An organization that seems to have never existed. Fairchild’s are connected to it
The People’s Church of the Divine Host- A small cult that grew around the defrocked pentecostal minister, Maxwell Rainer, in London during the late 80’s and mid 90’s
St. Thomas Hospital- Had the fire incident from First Aid and the nurse still feels watched there
Speculation
My inclinations about the horrors having certain types seems to be spot on. You have the Leitner Tomes, Sacred Geometry, Prentiss Parasites, Breekon and Hope distinctless entities, the Hands, Strange Music- even if I’m not spot on you can definitely group some of the ongoings together.
As for characters, Jonathan is slowly becoming a better person as he unlocks the skill empathy by being subjected to horrors himself. I believe the Lukas family will play a big part in the upcoming season as Elias seems to becoming more of a big player and with Elias comes more talk of funding and whatnot. Something I’d like to point out is that the institute is most likely not a good organization as all of the tendrils led to the archives and even Michael seems to hint that the Hive of parasites are right in wanting to destroy it.
Speaking of, Michael himself is then drawn into incredibly questionable territory. He used the attack to rid the archives of his recorded files and taught them how to fight Prentiss. He wants the institute around which just confirms to me that it has to be a rotten group.
As for where the plot goes from here I’m not entirely sure beyond more Lukas and Micheal involvement. We now have the added worries of Sasha and her experience with the Not Sasha voice we heard as well as questions as to who killed Gertrude Robinson as WELL as why she was being used in the horrors rituals.
Now for just my fun thoughts- I adore Martin. I think he’s my favorite character. He has so much thought and empathy put into all he does. Like the dude was running scenario after scenario in his mind to make sure everything would be okay when Jane attacked- and it sort of was because they fended her off and saved Tim. Alexander J Newall also kills his voice acting- I love how timid sounding he is and the delivery of his lines to Jon about being sorry for leaving him behind- AAAGGH it literally tore my heart into bits.
Anyways that’s enough rambling. Stay tuned for my season 2 notes and ideas!
