I don't use nominative determinism in character creation, but I just learned/relearned that the "Nic-" in Nicholas derives from Nike, ie victory. And insofar as my favorite boy Nic has a narrative foil, it's the guy named Victor.

(I have varying preferences for made-up vs real names in secondary world settings, but one benefit of drawing on real names is you get to distract yourself with this kind of thing.)

#Victor is named that for a few reasons not least of which is fuck that Frankenstein jerk #(the WIP is not related to Frankenstein in any direct way) #the -las part refers to 'the people' and Nic takes us as close as the setting gets to representative democracy so uh? #nominative determinism strikes after all #in a pinch I will claim Translation Convention #the WIP #I have lost hours of my life fretting about readers with strong opinions on use of Greek

i still have to cut 400 words from the wip to make it Actually Novella Sized and being so close to submitting it is so scary because, like, are the characters Here enough? Do you love them? Do you want to push some of them down the stairs?

So one of the characters I'm writing in the WIP is constantly using the name of the setting's deity/deity-equivalent in various oaths/exclamations/casual cussing ways

However

What he doesn't know and I do is that since he got whammied with a vision and changed his entire life in a way that made him more spiritually connected to the world/magic/life...

...each one of his oaths is actually serving as a genuine invocation/prayer

I hate that planned obsolescence is starting to reach fandoms. I hate that fandoms are starting to die after two, three years, I hate that whenever you stop getting content that means the fandom will die and be gone.

I need people to stop trying to brush off old interests as being 'cringe' as soon as you lose interest, or worse: make it seem like it's imoral to like something that they themselves held so dear before.

Fandoms are meant to last for years and years, the moment content stops being created is the moment we truly thrive because we keep creating the content ourselves the way we love it and expand on the things that are already there for us.

I don't care if you lost interest on something, it's fine and normal even, but stop trying to blame and make fun of people who still do love the fandom and the content and the things we can create.

I need people to enjoy fandom again

Writing a sex scene in close third can be very funny because like I know and the readers know that the POV character is having like, a deep and sort of terrifying moment of connection while fucking his partner but the actual dialogue that the partner gets to hear is just, like, the nastiest sentence that ever came out of anyone's mouth
