Ship That You Didn’t Expect to Ship But Now Do:I’m gonna say DarhkAtom, just because I was far more interested in SteelAtom or even AtomWave when the concept of Ray and Nora getting together was first introduced. DarhkAtom seemed kinda bland, and–having not watched Arrow–I didn’t know enough about Nora to really be invested in her character arc, either.

And then Season 4 of Legends happened, and I actually started to really like their dynamic. And THEN I found out that Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford are actually married (and adorable) IRL, and…yeah, I fell for that ship. I fell for that ship HARD.

If we’re talking non-arrowvese ships…I guess LarSadie (from Steven Universe?). Just because, pre-resurrection, I thought that Lars was a huge jerk who didn’t deserve Sadie, and I couldn’t wait for her to move on and direct her feelings towards someone else. But then Lars actually became a better person, and I kinda started hoping that he and Sadie could get together once he made his way back to Earth. Steven Universe Future seems to be moving away from LarSadie, though, so now I don’t really know how to feel.

Ship That Needs More LoveOkay, Batty, you had to have known that I was going to say ColdVibe. THERE IS NO WAY YOU DIDN’T EXPECT THIS! XD

But no, seriously, ColdVibe DOES need a lot more love. Or, like, it at least needs some consideration! The vast majority of people I talk to about it openly admit that they’ve never even thought about pairing Cisco with Len–it just hasn’t crossed their minds. And that’s a shame, because I think it has some serious potential as a very quirky, very sweet ship. Fortunately, most people I introduce to ColdVibe are intrigued by the idea once I bring it up (or at least not totally repulsed), so maybe if I just keep talking about it relentlessly, it’ll gain some traction in the fandom? A girl can dream!

Interestingly enough she and I met up today and were talking about the power of representation, in a few different contexts, and… yeah. If I ever think fic is pointless, I just have to go and reread the comments on that and ‘The Way Out’ and a couple of others, and I remember it really does matter. Stumbled upon the definition for bisexual/the definition comes up in conversation and he tells Iris who's next to him at the time that he's bi, and it's a casual thing, he doesn't have too much to worry about. She kisses his cheek and tells him "That's fantastic."

“Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?”In the Arrowverse, my NoTP is ColdFlash, and if AO3 numbers are anything to go by, it’s a lot of people’s OTP. Whoops! Same goes for Lapidot in Steven Universe.

“Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?”Huh. Well, not really “ruined,” per se, but I think that I’d be more open to the idea of SnowBarry if so many folks didn’t bash Iris in the process of shipping it? And, like, I’d be more okay with folks disliking Iris if it wasn’t fairly obvious that they only did so because they don’t like that she’s played by Candice Patton.

That’s not to say that everyone who dislikes Iris (or WestAllen) does so BECAUSE of Candice Patton (or, more specifically, because Candice is black while comic!Iris is white). But, yeah, if you rave about how you “would totally ship WestAllen if Danielle Panabaker had been cast as Iris,” or react to clips of Barry and Caitlin together by commenting “THIS is how WestAllen is supposed to look!” (both of which I’ve seen on YouTube), I’m going to side-eye the hell out of you. And if you can’t ship SnowBarry without bashing Iris, I’m not going to be comfortable engaging with you.

“Unpopular opinion about XXX character?”Uhhhh…I guess that Hartley Rathaway was a stuck-up, arrogant asshole before Barry altered the past during “Flash Back”, and being rejected by his homophobic parents doesn’t excuse how rotten he was to Cisco or everyone else he considered “beneath” him? I think people tend to woobify him because of the specific abuse he suffered, but I don’t have any qualms about portraying him in a negative light in fics that take place before “Flash Back.” 

“Least shippable character?”Lol, probably James Jesse, because I literally don’t ship him with anyone? I love the character (and love Mark Hamill’s portrayal of him), but I just can’t see him being interested in romantic relationships.

Flashatom “summer day out” moodboard - for @the-batty-beater, who loves them. Happy birthday, Batty!

“It’s an ice cream, Ray. It’s not gonna kill you.”

Ray looks doubtfully at the ice cream that Barry is holding out for him. “You’re sure it’s a gluten free cone?”

Barry digs his bag of gluten free cones out of the cooler. “I literally gave the ice cream truck guy the cone and said ‘This cone please.’”

“And the guy definitely said it was lactose free ice cream?”

Barry can’t suppress his smile anymore. He knows taking Ray’s allergies seriously is important. But the guy’s just so cute when he worries. “He did. And if it turns out that it’s not, I will personally go back there and threaten to sue. I’ll tell him I know the DA.”

Ray lowers the ice cream cone and narrows his eyes at Barry. “Are you making fun of me?”

Barry scoots forward. (In the process, his sunscreen-covered legs end up coated with sand. Worth it.) He wraps his arms around Ray from behind, dropping a little kiss into the nape of his neck. “Promise I’m not making fun of you, Ray. If you’d rather have an orange, there’s three in the cooler. And that means I get this yummy ice cream, which is currently melting…” Laughing, he flicks out his tongue to catch the drip. “Mmm, you didn’t tell me vanilla choc chip lactose free ice cream was so good.” Barry grabs it out of Ray’s hand and takes a proper bite.

“Hey!” Ray squeaks, taking it back and gingerly attempting his own tiny bite. His face breaks out in a huge smile, and Barry feels like his heart is melting right along with the ice cream. “Mm. Yeah, okay, that’s good.” He leans in for a very pleasant kiss. With the calm sea washing in and out over their feet, and the warm sun baking down on them, it’s really very pleasant indeed.

“Your ice cream’s dripping on my neck,” Barry complains, after a couple of distracted minutes.

Ray grins. “You’ll live.”
