Been getting tagged in all kinds of posts and popular TikToks of people using AI voice clones of my FNAF characters to have them sing or say all kinds of random stuff. You might think it's fun. But really it's contributing to the problem all VAs are facing in the wake of AI. The more these AI voice clones get used, the more they're normalized, and the more businesses see it as a viable alternative to real VAs when making content for you. Slowly but surely, most of your favourite VAs will be out of work. Not to mention what this will cost in terms of future generations of VAs. Incredible performances we'll never get to experience because most businesses will more often than not go for the cheapest, quickest option as soon as the technology is up to scratch. This is made even worse by the fact that we currently have very few legal protections against the unauthorized use of our voices using AI. And we're being pressured to waive those too, for a fraction of their worth. This is one of the big reasons the current strikes are a thing. If you enjoyed my work in FNAF and have any respect for the amount of time and effort VAs put into bringing characters to life, don't use AI voice clones in your fanart. I can't express how violated I feel every time I hear my voice say words that aren't my own. And just in case it wasn't clear - I have never consented to having my voice, likeness or any of my performances synthesized into AI voices/avatars etc.

on trust, being a creative, and fan support

from what i can tell, the reality is that steven, ryan, and shane make content (primarily) for themselves. they make content they want to make. they're trying to make content they're really proud of and excited for. any creator/artist can tell you that being excited for your own work and being the #1 cheerleader of your work is the main driving force that 1) gets work done and 2) makes the art good. for a creative, passion is hugely important. and it is a very good thing that the boys are compelled to want to up the quality and production of their shows, because that means there's a passion there that they're trying to nurse.

now, if the content they want to make requires more money, they're allowed to ask for more money. even though success in their line of work requires views and a certain level of fan support, they're allowed to act for themselves and their own creations. they're allowed to advocate for the art they want to make, art that maybe the fans aren't asking for. yes, it does shatter the misconception that they're doing all this exclusively for the fans. but it shouldn't be viewed as a breach of trust for them to simply ask that of their fans. and imo it shouldn't even be that surprising since that's the main reason they left buzzfeed in the first place—feeling creatively stifled, and feeling like they could make things they're really passionate about, if only they could make the space for themselves.

i think with all that in mind, i would say a lot of the common arguments against the move are essentially rendered void and misplaced. in the end, if someone really hated the move and felt betrayed, they could've just packed up shop and stopped watching; a lot of people did not do that, and i think their inability to cut ties with something they didn't like and was generally harmless was a fault of their own. BUT the only argument that might still stand is this: the bottom line is that if watcher won't listen to what the fans want, watcher won't last.

you're right! they won't. that's probably why they backtracked on the move.

but then i ask you what you truly want as a fan. the main "want" i've heard from people is for watcher to cut down on production/quality, and just focus on the real magic, that is the humor and chemistry between our watcher boys.

but what if watcher knows this and they still decide that they want something else? again, what if watcher wants to focus on creating something larger than two guys cracking jokes on a crappy handheld camera? if they only ever followed the fans' desires over their own, and all their videos from now on was just them shooting the shit on camera, maybe that would be just fine for you! maybe you'd love that content! but would you really be supporting watcher in the end, or would you just be supporting the versions of themselves they molded for you? could you really be a fan of theirs if you denied them the mere attempt at becoming the creatives they truly wanted to be? is getting exactly what you want all the time worth making life shittier and more stifling for the people giving it to you? is that what you wanted when you first followed watcher from buzzfeed?

The Robot That Makes Houses For Free

I have built a robot which creates new houses entirely for free. It's an amazing new innovation, a huge leap forward in robotics and it's going to solve homelessness, probably.

The way it works is the robot goes around to hundreds or thousands of other houses all over the town, and rips out the construction materials it needs from each of them.

But don't worry! It only rips tiny little pieces out of each house, completely insignificant bits which they would never miss, and then it makes this entirely new house for free out of all the little bits and pieces it took. Free houses! How amazing is that!

You just type into the computer what kind of house you want, what style of architecture, how many floors, what kind of floor plan, and it'll just do it - like magic! Out of nothing! For free! What amazing technology, it's incredible what we can do with modern advancements.

Anyway, this recent plague of houses collapsing is really worrying. Apparently they're falling down because they're being slowly worn away by some kind of mysterious erosion? Huh, that's weird.

But it's kind of a blessing, really, because it means now there's a huge market for new houses, so we're going to build even more robots to make those houses, and so long as the traditional old construction companies keep making new houses for us to sample, we can make new houses totally for free forever!

Wait, what do you mean the constant supply of free houses is crashing the market and driving them all out of business?

A tiny page of redesign doodles, I recently watched Hazbin Hotel and while I agree with a lot of the criticisms people have of it but I generally enjoyed a good amount of it! I already liked Helluva Boss.

Explanations below:

Alastor: gave this guy a normal skin-tone (not grey), curly hair, a and focused heavier on his deer features! I think he deserves those little freckles that deer have, as well as a deer nose :) I also focused more on neutrals and greys — he felt too red to me haha

Adam: gave this man some MELANIN. That’s basically it. Boy was that a white man jumpscare of the century

Niffty: pastelized/changed her little dress!! Iirc she is supposed to be from the 50s? She felt a little too modern for me. Although of course characters develop as the times do, I like the idea of her keeping a fairly innocent and unassuming appearance, and the red and black doesn’t suit her in my personal opinion (although it’s very cute!). I altered her hair as well from red and yellow to ginger and brown :) + gave her some generic 50s era makeup lol

Charlie: focused more on that goat thing she’s got going on!!! I also made her a redhead because I feel like we were done a little dirty with her and Lucifer being blonde. Gave her a typical/traditional hotel work outfit and bubble braids!

Husk: he’s just fat now (he should have been) and I accidentally stole his top hat. I’m not giving it back

It really is strange how Edelstans simultaneously dig hard into people that don't agree with their specific interpretation of 3H to the point of being happy they manage to drive those people away... and be so upset and baffled that people become generally disinterested/actively hostile towards 3H content.

If folks get repeatedly driven out of a fandom, and that group of people repeatedly calls anyone who disagrees with their specific interpretation of 3H stupid/illiterate/"acting in bad faith"/sexist/racist/homophobic/etc., and it is repeatedly done by a group of people who insist that 3H's fandom problem is a "both sides" thing, with all of this being dragged into spaces that have nothing to do with 3H, well... obviously people are then going to start to dislike interacting with either 3H in general or its fandom in particular?

Edelstans are the ones spreading the idea that 3H's fandom in totality is shit. They keep trying to make their hands look cleaner than they are by claiming that everyone else's hands are just dirty as/even dirtier than theirs. Of course people who are unaware of everything are going to then assume that everyone's hands are dirty, thus making people not exactly want to shake hands with anyone.

Like, really now. What did they think was going to happen when they directly go after fanartists/fanfic writers who create/say things that go against the Approved Edelstan Status Quo, to the point that a non-zero amount of these creators just up and leave social media entirely? Or after they nitpick every single Disapproved Post and then lie about the post's OP? Or after it becomes a consistent pattern that people who even remotely disagree with Edelstans' opinions are always, without fail, buried with insulting and harassing anons? Or after they're shown time and time again to defend their worst actors with "well their/our victims deserved it because they said a 3H opinion we didn't agree with"? Or when they say that everyone does this shit in 3H's fandom except for them (which is either not believed because it's demonstrably untrue or is actually believed and now those people think the overwhelming majority of 3H's fandom is filled with shit)? Or when they drag 3H discourse into literally actually everything no matter how unrelated?

That with less fandom creators within the fandom space they'd get more content? That harassing and insulting people and accusing them of being this-and-that bigot is going to magically "correct" their minds into seeing The One Truth about 3H? That people are going to just look over all the shit they did just because they allocate the blame of their action on all of 3H's fandom? That people would like 3H more if they constantly remind people of the inarguable worst thing to come from 3H? That this would help 3H's general perception?

Fuckin' no, of course that's just going to make everyone fuck off from 3H. And would you look at that, a shit ton of people have fucked off from 3H since everything has been swept under a "well it'sth a bolth thides ithue tho what can ya do?" rug. And it's been swept under that rug by pretty much the only people who are pulling this shit, who then get shocked - utterly gobsmacked! - that that made them look bad too. That crying "both sides!" included themselves too and not just the people they've been harassing. That saying that the entire fandom is bad everywhere made the entire fandom look bad everywhere.

If Edelstans are really so upset that no one talks about 3H positively anymore, then maybe they should stop being the reason no one likes 3H anymore. Just a thought

Not a proper ask, but had to say that I've watched the scene with Crowley and Aziraphale dancing SO MANY TIMES and Crowley's pinky wrapping around Aziraphale's hand GIVES ME LIFE EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. OMG! (Seriously, though, it gets me on so many levels -- not only from a character standpoint, but also because on a Doylist level, it's probably David's way of holding onto Michael to steady himself since he can't see very well and that trust between them is so fucking pure I might die!)

Oh, I love this! I've talked about this on my blog before, and I completely agree...

I think what gets me so much about this is how instinctive it is. I've written previously about touch being important, and how it is such a grounding thing for us as human beings. I feel like Michael and David are very much that for each other, that source of emotional and mental comfort that is such a large part of their relationship.

So it makes complete sense that this would be mirrored in Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship as well--here, and then in the graveyard in Edinburgh when Michael puts his hand around David's waist. Aziraphale is steadying Crowley physically (since he's high off his pert little posterior on laudanum), but it says so much that his natural instinct is to reach out and touch Crowley in that way, and that Crowley welcomes it. And it would be one thing if their hands were simply pressed together, but the way his finger curls over Aziraphale's is almost a foreshadowing of the vulnerability we will see with his confession in the following episode. How he opens himself up to Aziraphale and clings to him in a moment of fervent, desperate hope...

As for David, you make such an excellent point about him holding onto Michael to steady himself--and I would say both physically and emotionally, given what transpired in this season. But David's comments about asking Michael to describe things to him on set because he couldn't see also highlight that trust that they have in each other, and I truly think it's a level of trust I haven't seen either Michael or David have with anyone else in their lives. Instinctively curling his fingers around Michael's makes me think of David curling himself around Michael here:

How he does it without a second thought. How he leans into Michael, leans into that touch, that grounding force that Michael provides. It's familiar. And it looks and feels like coming home.

So yes, I am completely with you on this being one of my favorite moments of GO 2, and what it signifies for both the characters and Michael and David. The "little things" like this are some of the things I loved best about the season and I'll be discussing that more in my review, so stay tuned...
