#there's so much more than just the 3D movie it's so bad
Note
hello! I'm in a bit of a slump and I don't know how to get out of it. 3D is kicking my ass and I'm feeling very defeated, seemingly can't even feel excited, happy or anything alike when it comes to my manifestation,I've been crying and trying to get a hold of myself however,I just don't know what to do. I'm manifesting a celebrity SP and managed to manifest some things about him but my intrusive thoughts get a hold of me and sometimes end up manifesting...could you please give me some sort of advice? I apologize for my possibly bad english at times,it's not my first language
Tumblr media
Hello love!
Well to begin with i advice you to take a break and just forget about everything, just take your mind off, go for a walk, hang out with Friends, or just spend some Time with yourself like watching some movies and just having fun.
I need you to forget about everything you learned about the Law and just going to the basic:
: ̗̀➛ Decide.
: ̗̀➛ Affirm.
: ̗̀➛ Persist.
That it.
Shhh nope, nope no questions as : what if? How? When? No. Don't question that.
You need to understand that you are the creator of your own reality, everything goes your way, you are the boss, the master! Okay?
Everything is you pushed out, you Can assume who's nice to you, obsessed with you, jealous of you, or mean to you.
How you view the World and yourself = how it is gonna show up.
Your sp celebrity is just a human being like us, eating like us, breathing the same air like us, it is nothing above you and when i mean NOTHING that means you are the only one in the pedestal.
You need to take him off the pedestal, you have the power to manifest him, yes you are limitless. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO YOU. Nuh uh impossible is not in my dictionary 🙄💅🏻.
Your subconscious is blind. It believes whatever you tell it to, so take advantage of that.
For the 3d i know you can't ignore it when it is obviously in front of your face.
Just dismiss it, yup that it, read that post and this one it explain it so well.
Fulfill yourself in imagination cause that the only true reality.
Change yourself within and the 3d will follow.
Seeing something in the 3d? Nope nope i do already have my desires 💅🏻🙄.
Hard circumstances? Nope i have it in my imagination.
Too good to be true? Nope what do you mean? I'm the creator of my Reality and i'm the only one in the pedestal 💅🏻🙄.
Second of all you need to get off social media because you'll start obsessing over your sp celebrity and seeing if he conformed or if he showed any signs.
I advice you to know to completely know that your sp celebrity belongs to you, he's yours, no one and i mean no one gonna take them away from you.
You said you have intrusive thought and you fear they'll manifest? Nope you are much more greater and powerful than that, YOU ARE GOD! What do you mean? You're trying to Say that someone as powerful as you fear their intrusive thought?! Hell nah you control them! You make them get away from your head! You decide what gonna manifest if it is that and that.
Just know that your subconscious is smart and it knows what you want and what you want to manifest so keep that in mind.
If you want to manifest them you need to start being disciplined and keep a strict mental diet.
See my post and this post of the blogger that manifested their sp celebrity.
I Hope you understood this and i Hope you take Care of yourself and prioritize your mental health 💗🫶🏻.
And don't worry your english is good ☺️.
Xoxo, Eli

I am here actually to appreciate your post. I saw a blogger’s post saying The sign would have been ‘successful’ had it got filled with fantasy and romance and limit action to 10%. I wondered why that person, who says BL is all about romance, watched a show whose genre is action. Then I saw your post about people watching many shows to stay in fandom and I agree. Also you are right about dramas with a complex story receiving heavy criticism. Everything (even lack of proper plot or conflict) is exempted in a romance drama. No wonder most BLs are confined to ‘2 boys and their jealous & crying moments, routine conflicts enhanced by Escola or leads explaining how important Nikon printer is for their relationship’
Well damn hit me in the feels with this appreciation I'ma get all shy and shit.
I always wonder if by "successful" people mean in terms of critical acclaim, story telling, or monetarily. When it comes to Thai shows - and some please correct me if I'm wrong - it's difficult to tell how "successful" they are terms of audience reach/monetarily because there's no easily verifiable information. Like, there's Youtube numbers sure, but The Sign as an example, aired on Channel 3 what were it's ratings total on that channel? Idk, does anyone know that? Sincerely asking lol
Personally the way I like to judge a piece of media is what I call the Roger Ebert method; he often judged films based not solely on whether they were "good" or "bad but by how successfully they accomplished their goals.
If you read his review of Space Jam while it's clear Ebert doesn't think the movie is high art, "You can watch the movie on the sports and cartoon levels, and also appreciate the corporate strategy that's involved. [...] It is difficult for an actor to work in movies that combine live action with animation, because much of the time he cannot see the other characters in a scene with him. But Jordan has a natural ease and humor, an unforced charisma, that makes a good fit with the cartoon universe."
Ebert praises that the film, while filled with obvious product placement and banking on both nostalgia for the toons & star power of Jordan, accomplishes it's goal of being a family for that can be enjoyed by adults and children, and also the ability to blend techniques of live action, animation and 3D rendering.
I bring this up specifically b/c when I see "reviews" of shows in BL - the most common form of meta I see in BL fandom as a whole and that's not a knock just an observation - it's usually always about the narrative. Nothing about the filmmaking. And if there is discussion about he filmmaking it's usually misinformed or worse misinforming - no that's not what aperture means, yaoi framing isn't really a thing in film, the t-shirt is really just a t-shirt, etc, etc.
And like I get why. Fandom is more about story, what the words on a page or what the characters on screen are doing and saying. It's easier to talk about the amazing communication two characters have b/c you don't really need a film knowledge to discuss that. Which is a factor in why I think shows with lower stakes, more streamlined and straightforward plots get praised at a higher, less diligent and harsh level, than shows that are a bit more daring. They're less challenging in structure, they take less risks, so there's less to critique, and there's less room for a show to disappoint.
There comfort food, rather than trying something new at the restaurant. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, again, this is just a general observation.
To me, The Sign is miles better than Cooking Crush on a simple technical level. I only watched one episode of Cooking Crush and I found it pretty mediocre at best from all technical points: acting, editing, cinematography, directing, storytelling.
This isn't to say Cooking Crush is "bad" or that even if Cooking Crush was "bad" people shouldn't like it. I don't give a fuck if people like it, good for you chase the things that spark joy! I like lots of "bad" media, have y'all ever watched Jason Takes Manhattan?
For me, The Sign, like Space Jam, accomplishes it's goals and those were ambitious goals. An action fantasy BL that actually lives up to that premise and looks good?? The fight choreography looks great considering the obviously budget??
Like one of my issues with Laws of Attraction - aside from how painfully disinterested those kisses looked - was the fight choreography was bad.
The characters very rarely land hits in a way that looks real, or even marginally real. I can only speculate they didn't hire a stunt coordinator and/or couldn't hire stunt doubles so there was a worry of injury on set (for both reasons).
This isn't a disparagement on the actor(s) either, like stunt work is difficult and it's important to have professionals on set who can walk an actor through the steps so both them and others don't get hurt. Jackie Chan is probably one of the best known actors alive for stunt work, but watch how many times he fumbles and potentially hurts himself to the point where other actors are actively worried for him:
youtube
So yeah I'm going to give The Sign it's fucking gold star stickers b/c aside from some missteps in the gun handling - to many one handed gun fights but even then it wasn't all the time and bullets ran out of ammo! Y'all don't know how exciting for me that was to see - the fight scenes look damn good.
I understand the work that went into them, I understand the pre-production time that it took for the crew and cast to learn that and filming them well is another beast too.
There's a couple scenes with shaky cam that I dislike, but god do I love that first long take in The Sign. I love how good the CGI looks overall again, considering what is probably less budget than Black Christmas (2019).
I'm admittedly, fucking picky about what I watch b/c I'm really lazy and prefer watching films in general. I don't really like TV all that much, but if I am watching a tv show I wanna be impressed with more than just the characters talking to each other. Especially if said show is 12 hours or more.
When I'm looking at a piece of media - a comic, a novel, a film, a tv show - I'm thinking about stuff like "what were it's goals, and did it accomplish them? How was the filmmaking? How was the narrative structure? What is the time/place/culture this was made in?"
I'm not sure if people are arguing if The Sign was "successful" in terms of narratively, monetarily, or critically.
In reality we can only really speculate on how successful a Thai BL is based on data that's not not entirely accurate - social media, youtube stats, awards, etc - and even then most of that is based off international audience.
I can glean that 2gether was successful for gmmtv b/c it got a second season and a film, pretty much skyrocketed Bright and Win's individual careers but again, and created a cross country alliance for activism. But even all that is still speculation not facts (except the alliance that's a real thing that happened lol).
[This is all regardless of my own feelings regarding the show which is not kind. But feelings have nothing to do with individual discussion about how monetarily successful or accomplished a show is or isn't.]
Like it might be valid speculation on both shows but it should always come with a disclaimer of - these are not facts. Also, what is "popular" or "successful" can and will be dependent on individual countries too.
Take Cutie Pie for example, I would argue that it wasn't super "successful" here with American fans, but given how overwhelmingly popular Zee and NuNew are in both Thailand and Korea, I would then argue that the show was a success in Thailand and Korea. So was Cutie Pie "successful" or not? I would say yes!
Because "success" isn't and shouldn't be measured only by how western fans receive a piece of media.
In regards to The Sign, I'd argue it appears to be very successful with only the partial data I have at hand - social media which includes places like twitter, facebook, tumblr, the success of their sold out showing for the finale, a special episode, etc. If people argue it was unsuccessful in terms of narrative, well that's debatable and I have no interest in debating why the show is good except in terms of technical filmmaking and storytelling.
And even then it's a pointless debate like or dislike whatever just don't lie or mislead people regarding film terminology and techniques or harass people because they did like A Thing or clog up the tags with annoying posts about how you didn't like said Thing.
Overall, I don't give "reviews" on things I watch either positive or negative cause, well, I'm lazy lol, I don't believe putting how much I hate a show in it's tags and a thorough rating system would be to much work. I actually like how My Drama List rating system works, I just find most reviews on it to be Annoying lmao. Like giving Kinnporsche a 5 or below is absolutely bonkers to me but whatever es lo que es. But I also don't think my thoughts and opinions on shows are that valuable in terms of discussion.
These are mostly my general thoughts on fandom at large and it's not directly at any particular people its just observations at large across various social media platforms.
I think if you like more squeecore shows that's totally gucci, I just wish didn't proposite that 1) those are the only valid shows in terms of BL/queer media and 2) didn't overhype them to such sky high levels

Seeing as your one of the only people I know who is into Transformers, would you mind info dumping about it?
I know very little of anything about it besides the old "Micheal Bay!" Joke, and that it was initially made to sell toys, but that doesn't really mean anything.
So tell me, is there "more than meets the eye" to this franchise?
HOOOOOOOOO BOY
The single most important thing to know about Transformers is that there is no singular canon. Rather, there's a TON of different continuities, or basically alternate versions of the same universe. Transformers is a franchise that basically tells the same story over and over again, altering each time while keeping some very basic core themes and characters.
Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots. Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons. The Autobots are the good guys, the Decepticons are the bad guys, and they have been fighting a war for millions of years. It is rare for continuities to change these core facts. They might be modified, but they will never be unrecognizable.
In one continuity, Optimus might be a younger, more inexperienced leader. In another, he may be old, wise, and powerful. In some continuities, Optimus and Megatron have personal beef with each other through their backstories, making them almost lost brothers of a sort. In others, Megatron is a stranger and Optimus is an impersonal victim of his cruelty. Each time this story, the story of Transformers, is told, little details like this change.
Generally, continuities try to keep a certain "feel" to them. While sometimes a continuity will completely reinvent a character, most of the time it will try to keep a character within a few (arbitrarily chosen) character traits and/or role.
So, if this story has been told over and over again, and there's certain established expectations for characters, what was this all based on? The answer is the original 1984 animated cartoon! This cartoon is referred to as "Generation 1", or just "G1" for short. This is the cartoon made to sell toys. The animation quality is poor, the dialogue and music are cheesy, and I absolutely love it to pieces. I would highly, highly recommend that you watch the first three episodes, which basically acts as the pilot for the whole show. It really writes the characters at their most iconic and introduces the setting.
Now that you understand that G1 is the base, you can go from there and explore other continuities! Remember, continuities don't connect across different mediums (with the very distinct exception of one specific continuity, which I'll get to right after this) so feel free to find one that interests you. In general, each cartoon (or close series of cartoons) is a continuity. Allow me to list some of the more popular ones:
Transformers Beast Wars. This is arguably the continuity that follows the established G1 pattern the least, since this is the cartoon that followed right after it. In this one, the transformers turn into animals and battle on a prehistoric earth. This one is well-renowned for its surprisingly deep character writing, but the antique 3D animation is the biggest hurdle to enjoyment. It's kinda the continuity that's the most forgotten.
Transformers Armada, Energon, and Cybertron. Also known as the Unicron Trilogy (no, not "unicorn"!), this one was made in Japan and then dubbed and exported. They introduce a lot of anime-inspired features into the lore such as powerups and the like. Armada is regarded very highly with good writing, the other two not so much. The continuity between them is fairly loose. You could absolutely get away with watching just that one. Here's a link to Armada.
The Michael Bay films. You already know this one. These live action films are in a continuity of their own. In all absolutely fairness, the first movie is pretty good, barring Bay's more childish flairs. If you don't mind the U.S. military being portrayed as the absolute good guys, I think you'll genuinely like it.
The Bumblebee movie. Special shoutout to this one! This live action movie is in its own continuity that's really fun. This is an excellent movie and I love it so much, please watch it at some point.
Transformers Animated. This is one of the most widely beloved continuities in the entire franchise. People really, really like this show. It takes the franchise in a refreshing new direction, with the first season feeling almost a bit more like a superhero cartoon than a "traditional" transformers cartoon. The Autobots are the absolute underdogs in this one and it's hard not to root for them. Here's a link. This one's a good one to start with.
Transformers Cyberverse. This one is a web series that was focused for a younger audience for the first season, gets decent in the second but then gets absolutely and insanely fucking unhinged in season 3. I. . . don't recommend this one for any beginners? It's a trip. That first season is pretty unbearable. The second season starts out feeling like you missed something, and then gradually gets kinda better. Season 3 is insane. Look, just tackle this one after you've tackled the others. Don't start here.
Transformers Earthspark. The newest of the bunch, this one is releasing on Paramount Plus. I've really enjoyed what I've seen of it! It's a much more down-to-earth approach to the story. It changes some characters but in interesting ways. The new characters are excellent as well. You can definitely start with this one.
And finally, without further ado:
Transformers Prime.
I fucking LOVE this one.
This one is my favorite and was what really got me into the Transformers fandom. This cartoon takes the good innovations from the Michael Bay movies and then actually tells an amazingly competent story with it. It's the Transformers cartoon with the darkest tone by a long shot, and it really sells that this story is about a war. Characters die! The serialization is suuuuuuuper tight- one of my favorite examples is that injured characters have to spend time onscreen healing back up.
This cartoon also gives a significant amount of focus and exploration of the Decepticons as a faction as well, which is rare for the franchise. Both the Autobot and Decepticon characters will charm their way into your heart.
This show is equivalent in quality to Avatar the Last Airbender to me. I know that's probably overhyping it. You may not like it as much. But I really really really love it.
Here is a link to the first season.
But wait! There's more. Welcome to the Aligned Continuity!
Transformers Prime is actually part of the franchise's first attempt to really connect a story across media platforms. The result was. . . mostly successful? Definitely a lot of plot holes/errors, and some of the continuity is trash, but I want to highlight two videogames specifically:
Transformers: War for Cybertron. This game is a third-person shooter by High Moon studios. They do an absolutely stellar job with this one. Taking place on Cybertron, the home planet of the transformers, this one acts as the first part of an indirect prequel to Transformers Prime.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. If the first game is good, then this game is amazing. The devs layer on more amazing mechanics to those introduced in the first game, with some of my absolute most favorite moments in all of gaming happening in this one. It acts as a second part of the prequel to Transformers Prime.
The writing in both of these games is so amazing, and the gameplay is so much fun. I know you love videogames, so that's why I'm recommending these two you. HOWEVER, the cost is that these games are stupid difficult to get ahold of. You'll most likely have to sail the high seas, yo-ho-ho, if you catch my drift. I play these on my Xbox 360. Best of luck to you!
Anyways, there are other entries into the Aligned Continuity. There's a set of three novels that I've heard are stellar. If you're looking for a show for young kids but that is also fun for you to watch, you could always check out Transformers: Rescue Bots. That one has a small but devoted fanbase of older fans.
But do NOT touch the cartoon in this continuity called Robots in Disguise. Do not. It's marketed as a sequel to Transformers Prime. It is not. Not really. It's like the Halo 5 of Transformers. Every day I am reminded that it exists I am in pain.
---
And there lies the end of my introduction! If you actually did read all of this, congrats to you. Ironically, I'm not sure that you've really ended up more knowledgeable than you started. I didn't really go over anything specific about characters or plot or lore or anything. But I hope I've illustrated my point that to do so would be fruitless- this story exists in so many different iterations that you just have to go out and find the one that resonates the most with you, y'know?
My recommendation for getting acquainted with the franchise is to start with those first three G1 episodes, then move on to either Animated or Prime. You could also pick Beast Wars if you're looking for something with a more retro 90s charm, which I know you like from Marathon.

rank every vash
sure i’m due to lose a few followers
1. trimax vash. ohhhh he’s beautiful he’s fantastic what a wonderful guy. i could literally write full-length essays about him. genuinely one of the most well-written and complex characters i’ve ever had the pleasure of getting to know. i’ve written 25,000+ words in trimax vash character studies. what else can i say about him. no seriously what else can i say about him? feel free to give me ideas
Tumblr media
2. tristamp vash. he gets a bad rap from 98 fans and it makes me sad bc tristamp vash is much more similar to trimax vash than 98 vash was. people have shit to say about his design, his personality, his animation, his voice… enough already. he’s a great character and i’ll die on that hill.
a lot of fair criticisms of tristamp are due to the fact that studio orange is trying to fit 100+ manga chapters in 24 episodes. and it’s simply not enough time. but this is a widespread issue in the animation industry and orange is genuinely trying their best. almost everyone working on the show clearly fucking adores trigun and wants to do it justice, so i don’t think it’s fair to blame them specifically for the weird pacing issues. i do have qualms about it but "i don't like 3D animation" or "vash is too sad" are not valid criticisms imo lmao
Tumblr media
3. 98 vash. well he kinda sucks but that’s what makes him charming! typical 90s shounen protagonist! sure!
he’s fine on his own, but he’s like an entirely different character to me when compared to trimax vash. i can’t blame the writers for modeling him after early/pre-trimax vash, but i wish they waited to see how the manga would play out before making an entire anime. but who knows if trimax would ever finish without the 98 anime, so i guess this is the price i have to pay 😔
4. badlands rumble. i really can’t stand him LOL. i wish i could understand the thought process behind the writers for this movie bc it just doesn’t make sense to me. he's like 98 vash in heat. his only saving grace is his absolutely adorable design and bird-like mannerisms, which are very trimax-y to me. he’s just so goofy and funny-looking, just looking at him makes me smile :)
me: any last words, fucker?

I'll need to find my red 3DS again so I can share my own stats, since my grey one I use to mostly play puzzle game titles like picross, not any like, RPGs.

❀ building 13 movie theater headcanons !! ❀
YURRRR !! went to da movies earlier today so i kept imagining specific nanbaka characters in like cinema situations :P cinemations...cinetuations...?? YEAH-
rock is finding a way to smuggle in an outrageous amount of snacks. bro's got candy in his sleeves and chips in his pockets. originally only brought them for himself but ofc the rest of cell 13 beg him for a bite and he lets them cus thats just who he is. despite how much food he brought in he still finds himself missing the beginning of the movie bc he couldn't resist the heavenly scent of overpriced popcorn
nico is a slushy FANATIC. mixin' all the flavors, dumping candies in it n shit. totally the kid in the back of the movie theater slurping the last drop out of the cup hella loud when a quiet, tense moment is going down in a film. hajime's annoyed but stares daggers at anyone who tries to shush him. NICO'S FAV SLUSHY FLAVOR IS THE RED CHERRY ONE !!
uno, bless his heart, is absolutely the person who tries to predict the movie's plot before and during it. and the bad part is he's usually right. also the kinda guy to be scarily good at guessing what the characters are gonna say next lol
jyugo actually likes the movies more than you'd expect. always pockets the 3d glasses just cus he thinks they're cool and he likes that he can spend time with the rest of cell 13 without a heavy focus on talking or interacting. it's also a bonus that it's dark and he can sleep if he gets bored
it took FOREVERRRR to drag tsukumo out to the movies. hc that he's a much bigger fan of media without human actors in it because it reminds him less of his past, so the movie he went out to see with the rest of them was definitely animated. also likes the dark because it makes him feel stealthy, but he has a bad habit of stepping on each and every piece of popcorn or puddle of nacho cheese in the aisles...also insists on using the photo booth whenever he does hit up the cinema cus despite it all he still really likes getting his picture taken
yamato volunteers to wait on the snacks and carry them in while everyone goes ahead to take a seat in the theater. previews end and the movie is 15 minutes in but he still isn't there. everyone thought it was because the food was taking long to come out, but it's just because he forgot which theater to go to and kept circling until hajime and seitarou found him. prolly has trouble locating which seat to go to on his own cus he finds the letters and numbers confusing and hard to see in the dim light (totally not projecting)
seitarou has perfect movie etiquette and tries to get everyone else to follow his example, usually to no avail. his only problem is that he's too considerate of others and thinks he's being impolite when he's really not. the type to take the smallest bite of his food and tiniest sip of his drink so he doesn't disturb anyone. the kind to walk all the way around to the other side of an aisle because he doesn't wanna ask someone to pull back their seat for him to pass. poor guy, he even double-checked to see if his phone was on do not disturb and got shushed because his brightness was all the way up </3
andddd hajime. he's usually the sponsor for these outings since yamato literally can never find his wallet and seitarou doesn't have the heart to tell the others not to drain his bank account by buying ever concession there is. he doesn't let the inmates go wild with snacks and makes sure they behave properly while in there. uno tries to get the inmates to sneak over to another theater and catch the next showing but hajime catches them and makes them pick up the teensy bits of food they left on the ground. he's also the one who has the final say on what movie they actually go to, and even though he says he checks the ratings and plot beforehand because he "doesn't want to watch a shitty movie", it's actually because he wants it to be worth everyone's time and appeal to all of them at least a little bit. dadjime for the win <3

I do wanna say tho that people should probably not get their hopes up about this turning into a Sonic movie situation.
Granted my understanding of the industry isn’t as in depth as someone who is an actual animator at a place like Illumination, but from what I know with Sonic all they had to do was re-do Sonic’s model and animation. It’s a lot of work, but that was only one thing that needed changing. They were, as far as I know, able to use everything else they’d already made(live action footage, practical effects, voice lines, ect.) as it was, they just had to change Sonic’s animation.
With the Mario movie, they would not only have to re-record ALL of the voice lines for Mario, which he’s the main character so that would take a really fucking long time(remember, in the Direct they said that they’d only just wrapped all of the voice work, and they announced the cast a YEAR ago) they would also have to redo all of Mario’s animation, because animation is based on the existing voice work, not the other way around. And not just lip flaps, a lot of the character’s body language/movement is based in part on the voice work, so they would have to basically reanimate Mario entirely. That would take ages and be insanely hard and very involved. Def would take a massive delay and cause a lot of crunch time.
(Not to mention that whatever actor is replacing Pratt would probably have to put their current projects on hold/back out of them to make time to do the new voice work, or just work their ass off to get it all done. This isn’t as easy as you’d think. Recording all of the lines for a main character of a full movie isn’t something you can just knock out in a weekend. Not if you want it to be good anyway.)
Sure, they could TRY to get a new actor to just dub over Pratt’s lines, but if you’ve seen dubbed 3D animation it’s always a little off, and Nintendo clearly really wants this project to be PERFECT. Plus, then the new voice actor wouldn’t have the freedom to act as well as they could otherwise. Not to say dubbed performances are all bad or the actors can’t do a good job with those constraints, actors who do dubs are amazing and deserve respect, but the new actor would HAVE to follow all of the body language and lip-flaps that were based on Pratt’s lines, and thus would be stuck giving a performance pretty close to Pratt’s to make sure it fit, and if all of Pratt’s stuff is really flat, well then they have to come across as flat too.
And if they, at any point, got more than one actor in the studio at a time to get more natural dialogue then the performance of anyone who was bouncing off of Pratt’s work is probably gonna look off too, and that’s even more stuff to fix.
So like, please don’t get your hopes up on this one. We don’t have a Sonic situation on our hands. It would take a fucking miracle to get them to change the movie so fundamentally this close to release. As much as it sucks ass we are probably just going to have to live with Chris Pratt’s shitty Mario and just pray that everything else about the film is good enough to make up for it.

You’ve mentioned how boring the Avatar movies are despite how visually stunning they can be (I can’t help but agree.) How would you rewrite it to be a more interesting?
Can't be done and not for the reasons you're probably thinking.
The Thing about James Cameron
To get into this, we have to talk about James Cameron as a director.
Now, I say this being a large fan of The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day, as well as generally liking Aliens and Abyss.
But generally, the focus of James Cameron's films is not the story or the writing: it's a new cutting-edge technology he wants to develop and try out and or a particular setting. The story is presented as an excuse to do these things and is paper thin at best.
The focus of Titanic was the ship itself, the exact timing of its sinking, seeing all of the ship (both upstairs and downstairs) both before and after the sinking, and to aid that along we get this story of Jack and Rose where they run around the ship like lunatics so we can see everything.
Abyss, similarly, is exploring the concept of a setting at depth and the technology needed to produce such a film.
Now, what also ties into this, is that Cameron has a few tropes he really really really likes in films that aren't that... deep I guess I'd call them. Generally, in any Cameron film, you can count at least one (usually more) of the following:
US Marines (Good or Bad or Both)
Evil Corporations/Evil Rich People
A Surprisingly (!) Good Scientist/Science/Robot People
An Uncomplicated Action Hero/Heroine
An Uncomplicated Love Story
In the case of the Avatar series, Cameron had thought up this fictitious world Pandora, the native people there the Nav'i, and wanted to push both CGI as well as 3D to the limit (notable is that Cameron did 3D for these films in a way films generally don't, in that he did actual 3D where most '3D' films just have two cameras for stereo. This is why Cameron's 3D looks so fucking good and is actually worth seeing in theaters versus other 3D films which are eeeeeeh watch it at home). And, as usual, what we see is a story written in such a way to show off the setting, the made-up culture of the Nav'i, and the technology used to produce the film rather than the story in and of itself.
So, in the first film, we get a story that hits all the usual marks for Cameron. Through Jake's adventure, we get to explore Pandora and see all the things Cameron really wants to show off to us, we also get all the tropes Cameron usually loves: an uncomplicated love story, evil corporations, US Marines, surprisingly good scientists who seem bad at first but then are misguided, and a dumb uncomplicated hero.
In this case, it's just the plot of Dances with Wolves (almost to a tee) but uh... more blue.
(The second film is even worse in this respect, as well as just as a film, as Cameron now wants to show a new part of Pandora, the ocean but uh... has no reason for the characters to be there so has to make something up that doesn't make much sense or give the characters much to do.)
The trouble is where this works for Cameron in other films (Terminator and Terminator 2 were great in that they didn't need to be complicated, the setting and special effects provided what we needed for great films), in Avatar we're hampered by a plotline that has both aged and that we've seen before, and by a script that's... just not good.
But the point I was trying to make is that Avatar would not exist without Cameron. This isn't a case where you hire a new director, new screenwriter, new anything, this is Cameron's vision and there's really not much wiggle room in that without dumping out everything Cameron wanted.
The best someone could do is rewrite the script to make the lines more catchy/memorable/quotable without changing the plot.
(Caveat, again, I think Cameron is great when he's great. What he does well he does very well, and he has made some fantastic as well as very entertaining movies. However, sometimes, it just doesn't work out.)
Back to the Question
So, to 'fix' Avatar you have to have a script Cameron would like, one that shows of Pandora in the way he wants, and with the uncomplicated characters he generally likes.
Trouble is, that is Avatar. I can think of no way to produce what Cameron would have wanted beyond what Cameron himself did. He was involved in every step of that movie and it shows.
And again, to make it better or different is to make something that never would have happened as, well, it's not Cameron.
Long story short, you can't have Avatar without Blue Pocahontas in Space.

Miss.coffin sorry I’m new here and sorry about my bad text. I’ve been made fun of in the past because of it I’m mentally disabled to an extent and I have a shy personality. I’ll get straight to the point, my favorite horror film is my bloody valentine 3d next to it is the 2009 f13 movie. There’s a huge debate I seen when it comes to the movie is it a split personality? Is Harry possessing Tom Hanniger? Personally I believe he’s possessed, but that’s just my belief. believe whatever you wanna believe. I always had the unpopular opinion the remake is better than the original. Anyway, I’ll get to my request. Can you do a 2009 Harry warden sfw or sfw Alphabet relating to my favorite character/miner? Thank you so much for your time miss.coffin. I’m just glad some people are doing 2009 Harry warden because he’s better than his 1981 counterpart. Sorry I didn’t saying anything sooner. I didn’t know if you were open at the time like I know you are now and my shy personality sometimes gets in the way of things. just thank you miss.coffin.
SFW Alphabet - Harry Warden
TW: Slight Yandere Behavior, DID Terms, Mentions of killing, Possessive Behavior, My Bloody Valentine 2009 Spoilers,
A/N: Hello, my dear! You were just in time to send in a request! Personally, I believe it was a split personality, but that is a very good theory that Tom is actually possessed by Harry, I can see that! I went ahead and did SFW and I hope that's okay! I agree, I like the remake a lot better than the original! Thank you for this lovely request! I hope you enjoy! ❤️ Reblogs are appreciated!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Affection: [How affectionate are they? How do they show affection? Do they enjoy PDA?]
Harry is more reserved than his counterpart, Tom, and it would take a while before he would show affection towards you. Once he knows you don't mean harm towards Tom, he'll be more open towards you. Silent and gentle strokes against your cheek with his gloved knuckles, ruffling your hair, and firm grips on your hand. He's more possessive than Tom, so he isn't against PDA.
Beauty: [What is their favorite part of their partner. Body part, trait, anything?]
His favorite part about his partner, is their personality. He tends to like people that are kind and understanding and his partner being sweet like Valentine's candy is perfect. His favorite body part of his partner is their eyes.
Comfort: [How do they comfort their partner? Ex. after a panic attack or bad dream?]
Harry is a very protective alter and your needs and safety are very important to him. He's not great with words but he will hold you close if you allow him, soothing you in some capacity. If someone would hurt you though, they would meet an ultimate demise.
Devoted: [How devoted are they in a relationship?]
Harry would be very devoted in a relationship, he's not a people person and very withdrawn. He only fronts when he is comfortable with the person or killing. You would literally be the only one for him.
Ending: [If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?]
The only reason he would break up with you would be if it were to protect you in some way and only for a short term until the problem was resolved or if you upset Tom extremely. At that rate, he would just kill you.
Future: [What is their ideal future with an s/o? Marriage? How would they be domesticly?]
He's inexperienced with domestic affairs, but he would try with you. He could see himself marrying his significant other, and he would be a very devoted partner. Tom would have to teach him a few things of course, since Tom was in a relationship before.
Gentle: [How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?]
Harry is not a gentle person and he had to learn how to be careful with you. In the beginning, he was rougher, grabbing your hand tightly or pulling you around when he wanted you close. However, he would eventually learn that he's stronger and needs to mind his strength. He's emotions are very strong and he feels strongly.
Hugs: [Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?]
In the beginning, Harry wasn't too interested in hugging. Again, he needed to feel more comfortable with his partner first. Once he is, he loves receiving affection from his partner. He rarely initiates it, but he would never deny a hug from you.
Intune: [How intune are they with their s/o's emotions? Can they read their s/o well?]
Again, he's inexperienced with relationships and previously only had to worry about Tom's feelings before meeting you. At the same time, Harry is very observant and he will learn in no time. Soon, he'll practically be able to read your mind on a few occasions.
Jealous: [How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?]
As mentioned previously, he feels strongly and at times, they're not healthy. He can be very jealous and pissed off when someone openly flirts with his partner in front of him. He's reserved, not speaking when you two arrive home and you think it's over. Until you see the same person on the news after he was supposedly hanged on a flag pole in front of the whole town.
Kisses: [Good kisser? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?]
He is a very good kisser, but can be very sloppy. His kisses are deep and passionate, stealing your breath easily. He likes kissing your forehead and neck, he's a very possessive man. He secretly likes being kissed on his temple or cheekbone, it causes his heart to melt a little.
Love Language: [What is their love language? Gift giving? Quality time?]
His love language is gift giving and physical touch. He's not very expressive with words so he likes to make it up with affectionate touches and bringing you chocolates. Don't ask why the case was bloody, he won't answer.
Memories: [What are their favorite memories with their s/o or family?]
His favorite memory with his significant other is their first kiss together.
Nicknames: [What do they call their partner?]
His voice is more gruff compared to Tom's and his nicknames sound so sweet when they slip from his lips. He likes calling you sweetheart, and darling.
Open: [When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?]
Patience: [How easily angered are they?]
He can be easily angered and has less patience than Tom. He doesn't tolerate bullshit or things not going the way they are supposed to be.
Quality Time: [How would they spend time with a partner? What are dates like?]
Harry enjoys dates that don't involve being around other people. For example, he would feel more comfortable stargazing, or spend time with you at home. However, if you insist on going into town, he co-fronts with Tom to feel more at ease. Dates are very attentive, Harry enjoys alone time with you and learning more things about you.
Random Headcanon:
Harry enjoys the sound of your voice and would enjoy you reading to him when he needs to unwind. He finds comfort with your voice and eyes and feel the tension wash away.
Security: [How protective are they?]
Oh, he's very protective and will go to extreme lengths to secure your safety. Even if it's through the means of killing. For example, not only did Harry kill the people involved with the mines, but he also killed people that upset/harmed Tom. Both Tom and you are very important to him and he would do the same with you. Your life matters more than the idiotic people in town.
Tiny Ones: [How do they feel about kids? How would they act with kids?]
He doesn't exactly have an opinion on children, very indifferent towards them. Tom is more into having a family than he is, however if you wanted children, he wouldn't be opposed. Anything for you after all.
Upset: [How do they act after a fight? Would they be the first to apologize?]
He's a very stubborn man and would take a while before he can apologize, especially when it was his fault. He'll avoid you for a while, not really talking during this phase. Sometimes, Tom has to tell him to reel it in. Soon, Harry would feel guilty about what happened and seek you out.
Value: [How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?]
He may be inexperienced, but his relationship would be incredibly important to him. Nothing else could compare to how much you mean to him.
Whole: [Would they feel incomplete without you? What is their worst fear, what causes a hole in their heart?]
Absolutely, if something were to happen, Harry would be more reserved and withdrawn, unable to communicate with even Tom. The killings would get worse, much worse. He would be relentless since he's releasing his inner turmoil and anger towards his victims. His worst fear would be losing you, someone taking you away from him.
Xenos: [What is something about them that is strange? Something that most wouldn't like]
His killing habits lol!
Yank: [What do they do that makes their partner mad? That makes one wanna yank they ass?]
He would leave blood trails and footprints around the house after killing, setting his bloody pickaxe against the wall and staining the wallpaper. You've scolded him plenty of times but he always forgets.
ZzZ: [What are their sleeping habits? Do they snore? Is the schedule fucked up?]
When he fronts, his sleeping habits are different compared to Tom. He sleeps on his back and his snores are light. His face tends to scrunch like he's scowling and you've taken a picture of it before. He's not a deep sleeper and will feel you trying to move or get out of bed. He likes having you cuddling against his side with his arm wrapped around you. He tends to sleep later than Tom, since he walks out in the middle of the night for his killings.

I'd love to hear what fundamental issues you have with spiderverse... 🎤
Hm I'm just gonna rattle off a few from most to least important before I forget (note: some of my issues with spiderverse are less about the concepts or characters themselves but more about how the writers or producers chose to handle them, or even just exploring the possibilities of what could've been. I still think it's a really excellent movie and complex story.)
If you're someone that skims through longer paragraphs a lot, I've also put my most important points in italics so that you get the gist of what I'm saying :)
Making Miles' story about everyone else but Miles. I understand that Miles' whole thing in Spiderverse is that by defying the odds, he inspires the people around him. But there's a certain point where the story become *about that* and the other characters more than him and his interiority. In its efforts to focus on his growing into the mantle of Spider-Man, the films only kind of allude to the fact that he has a life outside of the mask. His mental health and relationship to his community are pushed to the wayside so much that even Ganke is only on-screen for a few minutes at most.
(This is a long one sorry) Spiderverse as a movie doesn't seem to know for sure whether it likes cops or not. It presents the literal police and policing as a concept as something that is inherently neutral, likening it to the mantle of Spider-Man where they simply have power that they have to use responsibly, and that there are just "bad apples". But the way that Spider-Society operates quite closely parallels how policing and criminality work: you have a bunch of spiders go out and detain people and send them where they're "supposed to be" under the guise that a) the order of things will essentially fall apart if you don't, and b) there is a specific way that your story is supposed to go, and you should be willing to sacrifice lives to maintain that status quo. There's also the categorization of those who break those rules as an Other (anomalies), and the fact that Spider Society reacts to the presence of the anomalies instead of addressing the thing that created them (the collider. HELLOOOO). With all that being said, Miguel and the rest of Spider Society are clearly framed as anatgonistic forces by the film and even has a punk anarchist character calling them out and being right about it. The movies simultaneously critique policing metaphorically through Spider Society while trying to justify it in the real world.
Girl where is Pavitr. His character is literally perfect for Miles to interact with, but we don't see him again until the very last scene. Same thing with...literally everyone we just met. The movie is over two hours long, where did all that time go--OH WAIT
Gwen and the scene with her dad take up wayyyy too much of the movie's runtime, I'm sorry. We spent the entirety of the beginning of the film learning information about Gwen and her dad that could've been quickly conveyed in much less time. Not to mention that, apparently, Mr. Stacy literally gets fired in the comics for letting Gwen go, so that whole plotline didn't even need to happen. Why change that? To say he's a 'good cop' that does his job? The trauma of losing Peter would've been present in her story either way.
The art style. No, this doesn't mean what you think it does. I do not have an issue with the 3D and 2D hybrid style of animation obviously. Spiderverse has literally revolutionized the field, but there are some limitations to it that were made especially clear once TMNT:MM came out. You may or may not have noticed, but isn't almost everyone in Spiderverse...kinda gorgeous? Hear me out here. Someone has pointed this out before me, and it really changed the way that I look at aesthetics in animation. In Spiderverse, everything from the environments to the way that things are shaded and colored is extremely stylized and pushed quite far...until you get to the main characters. Yes, there is diversity in features the likes of which we haven't seen 'till recently, but I'm purely talking about the style in which they're drawn. Compared to everything else, they look closer to something Disney or Pixar might produce. This is not inherently problematic or "bad", but I do wonder how much cooler and cutting-edge and comic-y we could get if it wasn't so pre-occupied with beauty. You can disregard this one, it's just a thought. Apparently the idea that not every cartoon character you see on the big screen has to be hot makes people very angry.
I think those are all the big ones. I'll reblog with new additions if for some reason I come up with new things to complain about lmao

Hyyy alia!!
Lemme tell you that I found you in Twitter back in March 2023. I love your threads and you gave me a lot of motivation for applying law of assumption. I wanna share my whole journey with you ❤️ so it's gonna be Hella long. So it's fine if you ignore my ask.
A little back story:-
My journey of getting my dream life started back in 2021 when I discovered subliminals accidentally. I got really addicted to subliminals and was listening subliminals constantly for everything. Day and night I was with my headphones playing it one by one. But I didn't get any results.
From subliminals, I came to know about law of attraction. After that I started scripting, pillow method, praying etc.
From law of attraction I came to know about law of assumption. After that I joined Tumblr, when it was the era of AFFIRMING & PERSISTING. But I couldn't make myself to affirm no matter how much I tried.
Then I fell in the void state obsession which really made me squeeze my self like hell. I couldn't enter. And finally gave up.
Then I joined Twitter and found many state accounts. Like you, scarlet, Dior, I AM, cedar, rem etc and from 2023 I started reading all threads, even others states girlies threads and trust me I learned a lot. Imagination being the true reality, 3D being just a reflection, we are manifestating from birth even if it's good or bad, you are not your body but CONSCIOUSNESS etc. After that I even read the source by Edward Art and Neville Goddard's Power of awareness.
I got lot of motivation and started applying. But I always fall out of state. I don't know where I am going wrong. Like I literally want to change my life COMPLETELY. Appearance, parents job, my house, friends, my life everything. But the sad thing is I couldn't even get a simple thing like clear skin. Infact it's getting worst. I even want my ideal friends group cause the present one is toxic but whenever I'm in the state of having my desired friends group, they post their stories with their other friends.
I know that imagination is the true and real reality and everything is the reflection. I really want you to give me tips that if I fall out of state how to get back without loosing motivation and not getting carried away with the 3D. I wanna enjoy my life in my imagination like a movie but I can't be in the state for more than 2 hours it's really frustrating. At night I'll sleep in the assumption that I have clear skin but as soon as I wake up, the first thing is that " did I get it?" Please give some tips.!
you were never in the state in the first place if the reason why you were trying to be in the state was to get something, instead of just enjoying it in imagination.
give up, YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE 3D. you are in charge of the BLUEPRINT (imagination) not the mirror.
stop playing and start applying.

The Pros and Cons of Silent Hill: Ascension
Hey there! Are you planning on sitting through Silent Hill Ascension, either because you're excited, want to build up hype/support for further Silent Hill projects, or maybe you're curious about what new shit show Konami's cooked up? Well, I've sat through the first two days, and let this post be a quick run-through on the good, the bad, and the very, very ugly about Silent Hill: Ascension!
Pros:
There's honestly very little, but I'll run through them nonetheless.
Voice Acting is, right now, okay. Some actors are clearly better than others. I have to give special shout-outs to Rachel Hernandez and Xavier Candless. They're both doing really well with their characters so far and I'm excited to hear how they'll act in more emotive scenes. Of course, we're only two days in so we'll see how that changes.
Silent Hill Ascension features minigames which average around "okay." I'll talk about it more in the 'Bad' section, but the good ones are fun little brain teasers that I find satisfying enough to solve. This is not across the board, but it's enough of a positive that I felt it okay to list.
The site is functional enough that the catch-up videos seemed to work without any hiccups (edit: so long as there isn't a livestream occurring at the same time. If you want to play catch-up 30 minutes before the new stuff is released, odds are the livestream will cut in and mess up your video). Plus, the grace period for decision making is very generous so far, ranging from a full 24 hours to multiple days, so they do give you enough time if you can't watch live.
Credit where credit is due: the monster/creature designs are genuinely well-made. You can clearly see where the budget went, and it was towards making these things look cool and be animated well enough to translate that creepy factor. While nothing is abundantly original right now (we've yet to see the flaming box head guy) I won't short-change the monster designers and animators here, they put effort into this.
There was a bit of misinformation spread around that you'd have to pay to participate. Thankfully, that's not true, you can "play" Ascension without paying a cent and I, personally, wouldn't call this a "pay-to-win" type of game with its set-up. In other words: DO NOT PAY, it's absolutely not worth it here.
Bad:
Animation quality shifts from middling to horrible. The main criticism I have for this "experimental idea" is that everything Ascension tries, the 2000s nailed long before. If you've ever seen one of those 3D straight-to-TV movies that airs on cartoon networks during the holidays, congrats, their animation is likely better and has more charm than Ascension. Characters in Ascension move stiffly, either emote too much or not enough, and lip syncing seems off no matter which language you pick. Animation in SH1 is easily better than this, so don't expect a visual spectacle.
As an addendum to this: Ascension is dark--no, not the content, it is literally hard to see. Going into a Silent Hill-adjacent media, you expect visibility to be impacted by fog. Ascension, on the other hand, skips the fog entirely and just makes everything dark. It is incredibly difficult to see anything that's happening (this includes QTEs which, hoo boy! look at the next segment for that). I don't want to be cynical, but I truly do believe that part of the reason why is to cover up the stiff animation. Until Dawn and other Dark Anthology games had some moments of animation weirdness, but Silent Hill Ascension is easily worse than that on a pure technical level.
App and website responsivity is baaad. Minigames are designed for both platforms with zero differences, but this means some minigames are better on desktop than on mobile and vice versa. Two minigames stand out as particularly mixed/bad: a find-the-object game and a guitar minigame. The find-the-object game was better on desktop because your hovering cursor could find clickable areas more easily than on mobile. The guitar minigame was just bad--it wasn't a rhythm game, it was a game where you had to click finger positions for chords on the guitar strings and, my god, it played horribly no matter which platform I picked (though mobile was noticeably worse) and actually hurt my ears.
As an addendum to that, the live QTE events (yes that's a thing) ALSO suffer from this lack of responsivity, with more destructive results. Live participants were abruptly thrust into QTEs with no warning, no tutorials, and no preparation. There were 4 types of QTEs: a quick button press, a hold-release button, a rapid-tap, and a quick swipe. Of these, only the hold-release and rapid-tap worked regularly. The quick press barely responded, and the swipe indicator is practically hidden due to it being borderline invisible.* While you can try the minigames over and over as much as you want, the QTEs are limited to the live showings and cannot be "replayed." In addition, they have been heavily implied to be a major determining factor as to whether or not characters survive, so if every character's fate is based on successful QTEs, every character is going to die in this show, no matter what you do. This is why I said it's not pay-to-win, you can't pay your way through live QTEs, and this set-up feeds into the unsatisfactory system the entire "game" perpetuates. Even if YOU do well, decisions are based on the community, so if they fail, tough nugs.
The story isn't shaping up to be anything remarkable. There's no major hook in the opening scene and even less of a hook for the three scenes that followed. I'm not intrigued by the "horror" being shown, the way this is being shot and told is more confusing than anything else and, while there are some 'good' actors in this, a majority of them are bad and lack any hutzpah to sell the continued experience. I'm going to hold out for the end of the week, when the first "episode" is done airing, but if nothing hooks me I'm not going to continue.
Ugly:
The "Battlepass." Oh dear god the Battlepass. By paying $20, you can get more "influence points," which you can use to determine actions in this game. You also get exclusive little emote stickers for the live chat (oof) that are, at best, a cringey nightmare and, at worst, absolutely stupid and useless. You also get accessories for your avatar (did I mention there's an avatar? it's so pointless I don't even know WHERE to put that tidbit). Why is this even here? You already have freemium options where you can buy influence points, what does a battlepass add?
The "live chat" just shouldn't be there. I'm sorry, it shouldn't. You can already see the community casting votes and helping with QTEs, having a live chat that is barely moderated with hundreds of thousands of people signing on at 9 to watch the stupidity unfold is a bad idea. It also contributes to the stupidity of the Battlepass system--I don't want emotes, I don't want a 3D avatar that can appear in the show if I give enough points--so nix the whole thing. EDIT 11/1/2023: I kinda got my wish! After the amazing lack of moderation on launch, they've either temporarily OR permanently disabled the live chat! Unfortunately, the video's dimensions to compensate FOR live chat have not been altered, so there's a big gap of black negative space where it should be. People can only reply with the dumb stickers the devs have shoved into this, BUT if you have the battlepass, you can apparently type messages! Ironically, this retroactively gives the battle pass an actual fucking purpose since it gives you a privilege, and the stickers serve a purpose since they're the only way for non-battlepassers to communicate in live chat. Fucking brilliant, they've stumbled backwards into an unintentional solution. EDIT 11/4/2023: Genvid's CEO, Jacob Navok, has made various claims on twitter that of course they tested they tested their AI moderation for basic slurs, it's just that the system got overwhelmed by day 1 traffic. Well, I absolutely DON'T believe that (the testing, not the overwhelmed thing, connection and stability were terrible day 1) seeing as people are getting around not being able to TYPE swearing and horrific racial slurs into chat by simply making their usernames swears and slurs without any letter substitution (a la leetspeak). Here is a link to a video of someone who was streaming Ascension and had the chat open, only to see have someone with the user name "Fuck_[n-word]s" in chat (I'm not typing the actual slur fuck that). When he goes to try and flag the user, he is given no ability to report the username. So, yeah, even if you see some incredibly racist/bigoted shit, you can't flag the user and report them to, y'know, assist with the absolutely real robot-powered moderation that totally exists! If there was the most BASIC moderation in the world to catch english swears and slurs, that username would not have been permitted under any circumstances, so I fully do not believe this fucker.
The decisions themselves shouldn't have labels. What I mean by that is that, so far, every option has three possible options. These options are labelled under three categories: redemption, suffering, and damnation. In other words, the watcher can literally see the paths leading towards the "good, neutral, and bad" endings for Ascension. This shouldn't be a thing, period, because it immediately introduces biases into your choices. Every option so far has been massively skewed towards the "redemption" path because people aren't blind, they can see the "good" ending on the horizon, and they want to go for it. The worst part is, the options on their on aren't explicitly good or bad, so if they got rid of that labeling it'd still work. idk, it just feels stupid. (NOTE: day 2 introduced ONE choice that doesn't have this same labeling system. No clue if that's a bug or if there are going to be decisions that don't have a label. Even then, it seems like a small decision in the overall scheme of things, so...)
Yes, the decisions are permanent, thus denying you the ability to see 2/3s of whatever Genvids has worked on. I just think that's dumb and, though many in the community have criticized this already, it feels even dumber when watching the show play out live. There's no way that the money Ascension could possibly make would subsidize the effort put into this if you're effectively nixing 2/3s of anything you can see (and it does seem like major alterations to the characters and their routes so far, nothing minor, so... yeah, you're missing out on a LOT). This also means that because of the audience effectively being enticed to pick the clearly labelled "good path," if you put any effort into a different choice, odds are you wasted your time with minigames for the day. This means Ascension is set up to be as unsatisfying as possible for individuals, and only satiates half of the community engaging with it. There is no way this is going to last the entire scheduled 6 months this is intended to run for if this is the system they're operating under.
In conclusion: give this one a pass. If you're really curious, you can watch now and get a good idea of its future quality. This isn't remarkable at all and looks more like a time sink than anything "fun."
I still don't understand why this isn't a video game, other than Konami hoping some suckers will pay for the influence packs and get them more money than a $60 one-time-purchase. Quantic Dreams and Supermassive "Dark Anthology" games are really fun and well-liked because of the CYA angle they take. This could've made a decent amount of money if it were just, y'know, a normal game.
*MINOR EDIT: tested the QTEs on desktop instead of mobile and they were better overall: prompts respond easily to mouse clicks and aren't nearly as invisible on my phone screen compared to my desktop. If you are REALLY interested in trying it live and getting a feel of the "authentic, live experience", I'd recommend accessing the site on desktop over downloading a mobile app.
EDIT 11/2/2023
Yeah I know I keep editing this honestly BUT I do have a big-ass critique I just noticed relating, again, to the minigames.
Here is a screenshot of the rewards you can receive for your performance with the minigames. You are rated on a scale of 1-3 stars, with a failure being 0 stars. In return for your performance, you gain "Interactive Points" and EXP. Tell me, after looking at this screenshot, what the problem with these rewards might be:
Tumblr media
Do you see it? Well, if you don't, let me point it out to you.
THE AMOUNT OF INTERACTIVE POINTS YOU RECEIVE, THE CURRENCY YOU USE TO ACTUALLY MAKE DECISIONS AND PROPERLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE STORY, GOES DOWN IF YOU DO WELL AT THE MINIGAMES. THE GAME ACTIVELY PUNISHES YOU FOR PLAYING WELL.***
100 interactive points, by the way, is not enough to vote on a decision! You need 200 minimum. You also cannot repeatedly play the minigames to farm IP or EXP so, once you get two stars, you can't get the rewards for three or vice versa. And remember, if you're not a battlepasser, you only get two of these minigames per day.
Why on earth is it scaled this way? The difference between two stars and three stars is the exact same, why does it not increase when you do the minigames well? 100 for one star, 200 for two, 300 for three, it's so god damn easy AND you can still keep the scummy interactive point packages they sell!
But, I here you asking, what does the EXP do? Well, ignoring that a 10 EXP difference is exceeding minimal, EXP gives you... nothing!
Yeah, not even kidding with this one. There does seem to be a leveling system attached to your profile, but I cannot see a single thing connecting it to rewards (which are across the board useless), giving you a power boost with your voting, or just giving you perks. As far as I'm aware, EXP doesn't grant you a god damn thing, and that's the only increased reward from doing well.
***CORRECTION (because nothing in my life can ever be simple): the minigames DO reward you better than the screenshot above. Just did today's minigames and I got 330 IP from a 2 star ranking. However, if that's the case, I GENUINELY do not understand why this is labelled incorrectly? This doesn't even add up correctly (the 1 star + 2 star ranking should equal 300, NOT 330).
So, at best, the site is poor at labelling things (which wouldn't surprise me, the UI is a mess most days on this) OR my view of the site/rewards are bugged! Who fuckin' knows at this point. Sorry for the long rant y'all but honestly? Considering I only noticed the labelling earlier today and couldn't test this until the reset happened, I could only go off the labelled point system above.
I WILL say that tonight was the first night the community succeeded at the endurance scenes! I'd be happier about that if the game itself gave a shit, because apparently, what we do does not matter (as this game seems rapt with telling us)
Tumblr media
Yes folks, despite the community succeeding two (2!) of these long ass, repetitive QTE events, for some fucking reason, Karl's hope went down further! This is, again, despite the fact that the community AT LARGE succeeded for the first time since the premiere date, but we still lost! Fucking how.

Hi! I feel like I share your opinions on hotel Transylvania and I would love to know your problems with the films, especially the "zing" concept.
Hey, I'd assume you found me via my recent tweets, because that's first time in ages I shat on Hotel Transylvania!
Tumblr media
I am indeed a proud, card-carrying hater of the first movie (and whole franchise by extension, but never watched the sequels, only the reviews) and would talk about it whenever provoked.
I agree with you, @chinesegal, that the movies were underwhelming, cliché and too juvenile. Which would be fine for a movie intended for kids, provided the overall message was wholesome, or at least entirely harmless. Keyword: "would".
I checked and this seems to be the first instance of me talking about HT, 10,5 years ago, and I still stand by those words:
I watched Hotel Transylvania last month and the single thing I hated about it was "LOVE AT THE FIRST SIGHT THE ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS! GO FOR IT OR YOUR LIFE WILL BE RUINED FOREVER! ZING!" moral that popped up at the end. This movie literally just gives love at the first sight name "zing" and shoves how irreplaceable it is up the viewer's throat during the third act.
This is straight up toxic. How THE FUCK did they get away with legitimizing literal love at first sight in the year 2012? And how come so very few people talk at all how messed up this is?
I am still confused why audiences and reviewers were positive towards this. Writing is so bad: annoying characters (especially Mavis's garbage love interest), lackluster worldbuilding (monsters as fantasy racism metaphor is fine, but why waste vampires if they do nothing vampiric?), unfunny jokes.
And while the visuals are... okay, I suppose, neither design nor animation were anything to run home about. A friend with animation degree was always so confused why animation in HT is treated like it was extremely revolutionary. I would not know, but wasn't particularly impressed either. Madagascar and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs beat it to a punch in regards of using 2D design language in 3D animation. Also, early HT concept art was much more interesting than the bland final result (RIP DILF Dracula).
All in all, you want to see a shitty Adam Sandler movie that at least leans into the horror/monster humor, just watch Little Nicky. If you want to see nice animation from Genndy Tartakovsky, then watch pretty much anything he did other than Hotel Transylvania. There will be also much better writing. Samurai Jack, Sym-Bionic Titan and Primal are especially worth anybody's time.

my thoughts on the nimona movie (no spoilers)
I literally just finished watching the nimona movie. It is SO good. I liked the graphic novel and the trailers looked incredibly promising and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. It is so queer, and so trans, and knowing that ND Stevenson wrote Nimona years before coming out gave me a lot of emotions about the way this was realized on screen. I don’t know how much he was involved in the adaptation, but it’s absolutely something he should be proud of.
I wondered how Nimona would work as a movie, knowing that Hollywood is sometimes bad about book adaptations. But the trailers gave me the impression that they were changing some things but keeping the spirit of the graphic novel alive, and after seeing the movie I think that’s 100% true. They mixed things up quite a bit—there are a few scenes that are straight out of the graphic novel, but most of the events of the plot were new or reworked in a different way from the original. But the original themes underlying Nimona are not only still there, they’re made even more big and bold and obvious by the changes.
And let’s talk about the animation for a second!! Nimona might not quite be as flashy as spiderverse, but the animators were absolutely still doing groundbreaking things with the animation. It’s 3D animated, but rendered in a way that’s designed to look more like 2D animation. Instead of hyperrealism they went for stylization, but still with the super dynamic motion of 3D models. This article [https://mashable.com/article/nimona-animation-style] talks a little bit about the artistic choices that went into it, and how they were going for the vibe of "graphic novel come to life." (I still have no idea how they pulled off cel shading on 3D models, but I’m so impressed.) The lighting in particular stood out to me as very cool, and the transitions when Nimona shape shifts were absolutely seamless. The whole movie just looked incredibly cool.
Speaking of the artistic skill that went into this film, two of the three main characters (Ballister and Ambrosius) were drawn as white in the graphic novel, and were changed to people of color in the movie, with such skill that when I went back to reread the original to prepare for the movie I had a genuine moment of “wait, they were white?” Their character designs were adapted so perfectly as to be instantly recognizable, while also fitting their style into the updated aesthetic of the movie. (Which has a super cool medieval/futuristic thing going on, expanded from what we see in the graphic novel.) Nimona is also, I cannot overstate, so perfectly Nimona. It’s clear that a lot of effort went into capturing the essence of ND Stevenson’s drawings.
The plot of the movie was not anything particularly new—“maybe the monsters aren’t monsters after all” is an oldie but a goodie—but it was done very well. Even though I’d just reread the graphic novel, there were enough changes that there were plenty of surprises. Also, did I mention how funny it is? There are so many hilarious lines & visual gags that don’t veer into the awkward place that animated movies aimed at a young audience sometimes land. And again, I cannot emphasize enough that it is even more explicitly queer than original, and they leaned into the trans vibes of Nimona very hard. Props to Stevenson and everyone else who worked on this movie.

My favourite Disney movie ౨ৎ
A review written by Cel
Tumblr media
I finally decided to write my love and thoughts about this movie after never finding enough words for it. Tangled is the first 3D animated Disney movie with a disney princess and was their animated studios' 50th movie. It is loosely based on the german fairytale "Rapunzel" by the brothers Grimm from the early 1800s. Some of Disney's previous disney princess movies had also been based on the brothers Grimm fairytales. As we can see in the animated movie we're introduced to this kingdom called Corona, this place is based on the german culture and architecture along with some characters' names. The music is written and composed by the infamous Alan Menken, whom I've admired his work for as long as I can remember, he has composed for Disney multiple times such as the soundtrack for The Little Mermaid. I officially became a fan of him earlier last year when I started watching Tangled's sequel series "Rapunzel's tangled adventure" where he had also composed the music, I definitely recommend watching it if you really enjoyed the movie. One would assume it is some type of spin-off but surprisingly it connects with all the details from the original movie.
Tumblr media
To start off with my love for this: I was never a big fan of this movie as a little kid as I am right now. Of course I knew all the words to the songs and the storyline, but I was more of a Cinderella and Frozen kid. Even so, this movie was still on repeat on my family's TV most of my childhood and I safely assume the DVD got ruined because of how much it played.
Tangled is my favourite Disney movie and have been for a very long time. I don't remember when it really got to me, but it was always a comfort movie I could watch all the time if I felt bored or didn't have any movie choices in mind. After watching it atleast once a month (unaware of the amount of rewatches), I felt emotionally attached to it and I knew I could relate to Rapunzel. She is a witty, creative, and curious 18 yr old girl who had been trapped in a tower for most of her life without knowing the true meaning about it. My favourite relatable thing about her is the amount of hobbies she mentions in "When will my life begin?". Disney did really well showing domestic abuse and passive aggression from mother Gothel, us as the viewers already know that she's the bad guy in the story but Rapunzel doesn't which makes her relationship with her feel so natural. Her realisation is one of my favourite scenes because of the recollection of her early memories. I feel the intention of this was to help young children who watches it would maybe realise if they are actually being treated badly and neglected. Of course a young kid wouldn't pick up the bits and pieces that fast but it is easy for someone to think their treatment and relationship with their parents are natural which is the same case with Rapunzel.
Tumblr media
Now with Rapunzel's romance that I am very fond of. If you really think about the time Rapunzel and Eugene spent together and the ending of the movie, it is quite weird how they just got married already. They met a day before her 18th birthday, he was on the run and she wanted to see the "floating lights". The fact that Eugene was canonically 26 years old in the movie which can seem pretty weird, but in the series they reveal he was 23 as he turns 26 at the end of the last season. I love how they didn't make them flirty at the start of their friendship which obviously would be natural for two strangers and especially for a girl who's never talked to another human being other than her mother. Flynn Rider, the name Eugene went by, was not happy with this trip he had to do if he wanted his satchel back. It's just wholesome to watch them progress throughout the movie and the way their feelings begins to develop. I like to think Rapunzel admired him from the start, as Eugene fell for her later on. If their relationship had a trope I would definitely say the "she fell first, but he fell harder" trope. In the sequel series, they start the story some months (i think) after Rapunzel returned to her real parents. But she and Eugene hasn't been married yet, she actually said no first because she felt insecure and was still trying to be used to her new life. Their relationship took years with complicated feelings and miscommunication which is one of the best parts of the series. Me personally would've said "yes" right away to Eugene. He is probably the most handsome and dare I say best Disney man. I mean they did put a group of women at the studio to work out his best design..
This is definitely the best animated movie among Disney for me, every scene is just satisfying to watch and it's like letting your brain rest for over an hour. They captured such beautiful moments in animation and perfected it so well with dialogue and music. One of my biggest dreams would be to watch this on a big screen with a live orchestra, and possibly Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi sing too.
Tumblr media
I also want to address the live action of Tangled because of the current rumours about the castings. As far as I know, Disney hasn't fully confirmed that the live action is in the works and everything so far is just rumours or assumptions. Only a few days ago 1-2 articles had been found informing that Disney has reportedly casted Avantika Vandanapu and Milo Manheim as Rapunzel and Eugene. This caught a huge amount of attention and controversy on social media, and my biggest problem with this is how people actually believe it. I really thought we were past believing absolute everything we see on the internet, especially from websites we've never gotten information from. Because why would a website almost no one reads suddenly have Disney's thoughts of their cast? Worst is the people believing this and being racist about it. Avantika had never been a choice in my fancast for Rapunzel as she doesn't fit her description, but that does NOT mean she shouldn't be allowed to play her as there are plenty versions of white Rapunzels from before. The people using this casting to compare it with saying "Tiana/Moana should be played by a *white woman*" are who annoy me the most in this situation. I've had multiple arguments with different people the past couple of days because of stating how comparing those two are not fair and the inaccurate casting isn't the same difference. First of all: Tiana's appearance and storyline are based on her skin colour and culture as she's an afro-american woman from the 1920s in New Orleans. In parts of her movie her "background" even gets represented as a problem for her to achieve her dream, this movie is obviously made to represent our beautiful black people in the world. Shocked they didn't get a representation until 2009. Second: Moana is based FULLY on polynesian culture and through polynesian mythology, even her voice actor was encouraged to be a part of that. Auli'i Cravalho, her voice actor, is native Hawaiian and encourages their culture along with the music Lin Manuel Miranda wrote. At last: Comparing this rumoured Rapunzel casting to Tiana or Moana is wrong as her story isn't meant for representation of oppression and not based on her skin colour. Yes, it is loosely based on the brothers Grimm's fairytale which is German and the movie does show German details in the story but things will always change and they already are. Why not let today's children grow up with beautiful characters that can let them feel as included as every white person can with the previous characters? I can say this has never been a problem to me growing up even though none of the disney princesses looked like me, it still makes children aware of it at some point and when I realised I didn't have a disney princess that looked or was based remotely on people like ME, I began hoping Disney would make a south-east Asian princess. That's why I agree that Disney should start making new disney princess movies representing more people instead of not having an accurate casting for the character but honestly, Rapunzel's SKIN colour is not that relevant to her story at all. Anyway, my fancast for Tangled has always been Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim after watching the Zombies movies. They have great chemistry and both of them sing perfectly! I'm excited to see how this live action movie will turn out, after Halle Bailey's "The Little Mermaid" I hope it will be as amazing.
Tumblr media
My love for Tangled is endless but to finish my review I want to thank you for reading all the way down here. If I was only allowed to watch one movie the rest of my life I might have chosen this or a 2-3 hour long just to be entertained longer. The amount of times I've watched this has made me able to recite most of the scenes and the whole film is engraved to my mind. I think if I had enough time and peace I could literally sit still and watch the movie scene by scene in my mind. Again, thank you for reading!
