Tears welled your eyes as you packed everything quickly. Your mom and dad watched you leave the house, with judgmental stares and disappointment.

You quickly went to one place you knew you could go, a person you could trust.

“I- I don’t know what to do. I have nowhere to go or-“

“It’s alright, it’s alright. Don’t worry ‘bout it right now. Your parents are right assholes.”

You laughed quietly, wiping away and tear and pulling away from him.

“I know.”

“Hey, don’t worry bout having a place to stay or anything. I got you.” He said, patting your shoulder with a small smile.

“Seriously?”

“Seriously.”

You smiled at him, hugging him again.

ok so those guys in particular are from the fox procedural called 9-1-1 Lone Star, which is a spinoff of the original 9-1-1 (which just got moved to abc after some Drama that went down so my tag for it is 911 (not fox) lmaoo). but both shows are about first responders (firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, police) with a particular focus on firefighters. 9-1-1 (the og) is set in LA, and primarily focuses on the 118 firehouse and the firefighters/paramedics there with some other characters in the main cast who work as dispatchers/police officers (the police storylines are more often than not FULL of copaganda which sucks but the main focus is on the firefighters so i'm able to enjoy the rest of the show). 9-1-1 Lone Star is pretty much the same except it's set in austin texas, and is about the 126 firehouse. there are onscreen queer characters in both (in the og there's a married lesbian couple raising a kid, and in lone star there's the aforementioned hot gay boys [one of whom is unfortunately a cop but i swear to GOD i will get him out of there. one day.] and in lone star there's also a trans man and wlw woman in the main cast.) and my favorite thing about these shows is the found family !!! like these are the shows that have endeared firefighter aus to me because they live together and eat meals together and just. the familial/platonic love is So Powerful and it legiterally makes me cry to watch. like there's romance ofc but genuinely it's one of my favorite found family medias to ever exist. its So.

of the two the og is my favorite for a LOT of reasons, but they're both pretty enjoyable !! lone star definitely has more of a comedic tone than og (theyre BOTH funny but lone star doesn't have as many somber intense moments as og does, and they're much more spread out so there's a lot more room for goofy shenanigans. but og still definitely has plenty of those) and the team dynamics in them both are just...ughhh <3333

HOWEVER. lone star has ..... Him...(derogatory)...he's the fire captain and (despite lone star SUPPOSEDLY being an ensemble show with no Main Character) is in fact. the Main Character. and he's the blandest most obnoxious crustiest white man to ever LIVE. he gets most of the storylines and he's constantly propped up by the writing as The Coolest Guy Ever when he's just . not . i hate him so much it's unreal it's soo so unreal (<- biting the bars of my cage) BUT the rest of the team ??? absolutely love them. like i DO love lone star a lot its a great show with great characters and dynamics but it just has. the most annoying guy to ever live front and center when ITS SUPPOSED TO BE AN ENSEMBLE SHOW FEATURING EVERYONE EQUALLY. grr. anyway. og does a much better job of being an ensemble show, and i could not choose a favorite character of the main cast if you held me at gunpoint. angela bassett is there. i am gay. jennifer love hewitt is there. i am very gay. etcetera.

so one of them is tk strand (firefighter/paramedic, also the son of the Main Character (derogatory). i have many many many thoughts about that. i would probably get gunned down in this fandom if i ever said them aloud.) and the other one is carlos reyes (a private detective TO MEEEEEEEEEEEE but unfortunately fox is full of cowards who refuse to see the truth. they wanna have a gay cop in their show sooo bad </3) and they're kind of the main romance of the show (there Are others ofc but theyre like. The Focus. which is fine ig but i do wish there was more focus on other relationships because in general lone star isnt as good as the ensemble thing as og. but i already complained about that so i digress.)

now they're a fun pair because one of them has been shot, frozen almost to death, and otherwise put into a coma on MULTIPLE occasions. and it's not the guy whose entire job is to get shot at. (the whump in both of these shows.....................absolutely effervescent. im thriving here.) and they have a very fascinating relationship because their personalities fit together really well but they have different ways of coping with shit that kind of tear each other apart a little bit. which is of course terrible for them but incredible for me. and the writing is at times ridiculous. soap opera-esque, even. they're ridiculous. i adore them. they cannot catch a god damn break and i love that for them even more. <3

General Opinion over said character:

I never know wtf people are talking about when they do Kyle discourse. Fundamentally uninterested in the question of if Kyle good or bad. Kyle regularly enters situations wanting to be good and righteous, and yet he often does bad things (see also: virtue ethics). In my view, this is the defining function of his character on the show, so treating it like a binary when the cartoon's regular starting point already has more nuance than that is a step backwards

Kyle was my second fave after Tweek back in the day—projected onto him hardcore, identified with his desire to do the right thing, and the struggle that comes with determining what that is and carrying it out. I don't understand when I see him deified and his faults elided because I think his flaws and failures are super interesting, relatable, human

No one is required to view him the way I do, though, and I always hope people are having fun and expending their energies in fulfilling ways in fandom. Would be downright evil to hassle people with different viewpoints! Especially when hearing different interpretations and headcanons can be so fun and stimulate creativity. It helps when people can stay respectful and self-aware that we are all ultimately working with our own subjective interpretations of fiction, all projecting and relating in our own unique ways

OC Name Meaning Tag

Tagged by @writernopal; thank you so much! Gonna leave an open tag for this one. My elven names are pretty much all made up, so I won't be including any of them in this!

RENWICK: Old English name meaning "raven village". I picked it while looking at a list of goth-sounding names and I found myself coming back to that one and usually, if a name lingers in my mind, it's a good sign to try using it. Funnily enough, I picked his surname Crawford (meaning "crow ford") without considering the meaning of his first name, and accidentally ended up with a character named Corvid McCorvidson. Did I mention he's goth??? Anyway by the time I figured it out I already grew attached to the full name and anyone who thinks it's stupid can fight me /lighthearted. Also it's worth mentioning that he named himself after a character from an in-universe vampire novel. He is, in a way, literally one of those goths who named himself Raven.

STYX: From the River Styx in Greek mythology. I named her that deliberately because it sort of represents a barrier between the living and the dead. Without giving away too much, they're a person who can help you cross that barrier. In universe, Greek myth doesn't exist, but I imagine the name could derive from a Celestial deity--perhaps the deity of death, to keep the theme going.

VERIDA: A Spanish name meaning truth and bravery. At first I was considering calling her Dolores, which is a name meaning sorrow and perfectly on theme with the goth vibes of our main cast, but Encanto had just come out at the time and that was what I primarily associated the name with. Besides, Verida is anything but sorrowful!

AINSLEY: Directly translates to "one hermitage or meadow". Unintentional.

VINCE: Short for Vincent, derived from Latin word vincere meaning "to conquer". Unintentional; I picked the name because it sounded goth. Ironically, Vince ended up being one of my preppiest vampires, in terms of style.

BELLADONNA: Means "beautiful/fair lady" in Italian. I named her after the poisonous flower, and in universe she picked out the name for the same reason (Belladonna is not her birth name). The women of the Night Terrors are all named after flowers, and I imagine they picked them out together to form a sort of small vampire coven before meeting the rest and forming the Night Terrors. In Victorian flower language, the belladonna may mean a warning, or a symbol of death, which fits her quite well!

TANSY: Honestly this flower just popped into my head for a blonde vampire lady, but later I looked up the symbolism and it turns out tansy can symbolize immortality, as well as a declaration of war. Both of these fit quite well!

AMARYLLIS: Means strength, pride, and determination. Fits nicely! Also, apparently amaryllis flowers contain healing properties, which is a fun detail since Amaryllis herself is a witch and makes makeshift potions using her own venom (vampire venom is a valuable and powerful alchemical ingredient!) Also, apparently the name itself is a Greek name meaning "to sparkle"? Insert sparkling vampires joke (though truly I think she'd enjoy wearing glitter).

DAHLIA: One possible meaning is that of fresh starts and new beginnings. Perfect since, as a random tidbit, Dahlia was the one to start the flower name thing! She's also canon trans so <3333. The flower also symbolizes kindness, grace, elegance, inner strength, and change.

VLASTIMIR: Slavic name derived from elements meaning "rule, sovereignty" and "peace, world". Unintentional.

EIRIK: Norwegian form of Eric, meaning "ever ruler" and derived from Old Norse. Unintentional. I find it super ironic that both him and Vlastimir ended up with names meaning "ruler" when neither of them are rulers and one of the running themes of the Night Terrors is that they helped shape a major historical event but their involvement was largely forgotten by all accounts of it. Sure, some of them are known for other things, but mostly just short tales of them terrorizing a random village or something similar. Out of all of them, Aramour the summer elf is the only one mentioned in the historical accounts of the war itself, but only as a palace performer in the background. No mention of his vampirism or participation in the rebellion.

MIRKO: Diminutive of Miroslav, meaning "peace, world." Unintentional.

EMMERICK: A (sort of purposeful) misspelling of the German name Emmerich, derived from elements meaning "ruler, king" and possibly either "whole, great" or "unceasing, vigorous". Also unintentional, but...

I've never had such a turnaround on a character. When he was first introduced I was like "who is this arrogant toddler" and now I'm like "that is my child that is my son I will fight god for him." He's had SO much character growth and I'm so proud of him. I also love his interactions with Alisaie and how they're both growing as people and learning to understand each other and ;-; <3333 Alisaie, btw, is ALSO my child; I am so friggin proud of how much of a leader and a fighter she's been through Stormblood, and I'm really happy that the game gave me a chance to tell her to never stop caring, even when she gets hurt over it.

long story short, ed starts to help her realize the abuse she's going through and the unhealthy patterns she's learned

through their early high school years, ed helps her unlearn that and get out of the bad relationship shes in

he also finally comes out to her and she accepts him (after being kinda weird abt it at first bc. transphobic dad gkjfhgk)

in turn, she helps ed realize the abuse he's going through

ed also gets really attached to kristens mom

kristens mom is actually a really nice lady, she just has a shit husband and was taught she should be treated like that

kristen getting out of that mindset actually helps her mom get out of it too and she kicks her husband out of the picture

did i mention kristens parents are stupid rich

even after her husband leaves, her mom still is pretty wealthy

when ed finally turns 18, he gets the fuck out of there and lives with kristen and her mom

through all this, ed and kristen try dating and its good for a while

but they realize they're better friends

kristens mom becomes like a mom to ed

she ends up paying for ed's college, hormone therapy, top surgery, name change, and therapy

he's eternally thankful to her

he goes to community college and gets his associates in forensics

kristen goes with him and gets an associates in english

after they've gotten their associates, ed goes to an out of town four year where he meets oz

kristen stays in town, but they still call/talk often

now time for oswald heehee

he's a 21y/o trans guy who uses he/him

gertrud raised him alone, claiming his father was dead

she was extremely overbearing and heavily attached to her son to an unhealthy level

he was bullied a lot as a child

he's also autistic and has adhd <3

he still has his limp, but he gets it in middle school after some kids broke his ankle and gertrud took care of it herself instead of taking him to a doctor

he has a cane which he uses most days

he realizes he's trans very early on in his life and gertrud was very supportive

she let him transition socially and changes his name legally around high school

if she had the money for it, she would have absolutely payed for surgeries and such

at the time of the au, his names changed legally and hes on T (payed for himself)

he has a special interest in penguins and wants to be an ornithologist so he can work with them

he focuses a lot on science in school and always gets A's in it

usually gets b's and c's in everything else (and only gets that high of grades bc he doesn't wanna disappoint his mom)

he goes to community college for an associates in biology

right after his senior year of high school, gertrud starts to get really sick

she refuses to go to a doctor so oswald is balancing taking care of her, having various part time jobs, and getting his associates

its a big rough patch for him and his mental heath takes a huge dip at the time

when he gets his degree and finds the college he wants to go to (which is out of state), he realizes he cant leave his mom the way she is and cant go to college financially yet

so he takes a gap year to earn money and keep taking care of gertrud

he finally gets her to go to a doctor and gets her on medication

when the end of his gap year rolls around, he has enough money to get by on financial aid without any loans

he finally moves out, still talking to his mother often and keeping a eye on her health (though she doesn't tell him much)

now theyre both in college and the au actually starts dfjghfdkjhg! yes i have more backstory for the au than actual plot for it leave me alone <3 basically i love them

i have no idea how the other characters fit into this btw jghkfjdgkdfjhg they will exist at some point but for now they dont heehee

sorry to continue on this (feel free to not answer!) but that anon's "it's 2021" absolutely floored me. not even half the states in the US ban the "gay/trans panic" defense! there was a ballot initiative to repeal the law prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity in massachusetts in 2018. it failed but holy balls. i could go on and on about this shit.

also the use of slurs (both against jackles & in general) and the homophobia-as-a-bit in this fandom frustrates me so much. you can be self-effacing for humor purposes, but sounding indistinguishable from my ultra-conservative queerphobic relatives and calling that humor is really alienating.

nah it's okay it's an important conversation!! yeah like — are things better than they were in 2005? sure, in some areas. but my biggest fear is the supreme court atm because if they overturn roe v wade they'll overturn griswold, they'll just take away any right to privacy and it's just ridiculous!

also. im suddenly intrigued by this “911” thing u keep talking about. it looks like homosexual activity (that might actually be somewhat healthy for once??)

IT IS IN FACT!! I'm gonna ramble about it a bit because it's my current new favorite thing of all time. it's the show for the girls and the gays <3

there's 2 separate shows, 911 (the og, set in california) and 911 Lone Star (a spinoff set in texas). my favorite thing about both of them is that they have very wide diverse casts of characters, and the writing is overall very well done which is a nice change of pace from dc lmao

in 911, the main cast consists of two black women (one of which is a lesbian married to another black lesbian and they're raising a son together), a korean man, a mexican man who's also a single parent to a kid with cerebral palsy, and a woman who is a victim and survivor of domestic abuse. there's also a popular ship between two of the main male characters that isn't canon but it's widely believed that it will be soon. it's a character-driven show that doesn't have any set main character because everyone in the main cast and every main relationship gets the same amount of care and attention. my favorite favorite thing is that the familial/platonic relationships are JUST as important as the romantic shit and the found family in this show is SOOOOOO <33333 its a show for the aroaces, truly. it also has some of THEE m/f ships of all TIME.

there are also a lot of queer/poc side characters!! and the main female characters all have a life and friendships outside of their male (or female) love interests and it's sad that that's such a high bar for media but it's soooo <3333

911 lone star is my least favorite of the two, but I still love it a lot! the writing focuses a lot more on a specific Main Character (and he's like. the blandest most obnoxious white guy of all time smh) but there's still a very diverse cast and the found family is once again very <333333 in the main cast there's a black trans man, a hispanic man with dyslexia, a muslim hijabi, a black woman, a gay jewish man, and a gay hispanic man (who are one of the main canon pairings and one of my personal favorites in the 911 universe.) sadly the main white character is played by a more famous actor so a lot of the storylines center around him, but there's still quite a few storylines for the others!! there's a more correct 911 lone star in my head where owen (bland obnoxious white guy) dies in the first season for his son and wife's character development <33

so tldr if you're wanting good writing and a wide cast of characters who each get their own chunk of the story, I'd recommend watching 911 first, but lone star has its good moments too. it's also worth mentioning that both shows are about first responders (mostly firefighters/paramedics and dispatchers, but there's a few cops too) so there could be some triggering content since they're dealing with car crashes and earthquakes and shit. and there's also some copaganda vibes surrounding the cop characters but again, there's a more correct version in my head where they're vigilantes instead of cops
