You briefly mentioned Gale in your post about Lucy Gray being everywhere (🫶🏻) in District 12 and I wanted to ask what do you think of him as a character. It’s been 10 years since I’ve read the books so I don’t remember exactly how things happened in Mockingjay, but I think it’s unfair how people make everything about the love triangle and in order to praise Peeta for everything he does right, they tend to be really nasty about Gale when imo what happened ~ because ~ of him is really heartbreaking and just shows how war destroys people and who they love. Idk if I’m expressing myself well but I think people do miss the point sometimes. Peeta is a sweetheart but there’s no satisfaction to me in simplifying everything that happen by calling Gale a villain or a toxic guy. This sounds so boring sorry, I just loved your post about Lucy okay? Please yes talk more about books here next year! 💌

first and foremost i am & always have been a peeta girlie, he is truly one of the greatest fictional characters of all time and i'll die on that hill. but i actually do like gale, and i think he gets a very bad rap in fandom!

i think the first mistake people make is assuming that katniss/peeta/gale is a love triangle. it isn't. the struggle of katniss choosing between peeta & gale isn't actually about "omg who will she end up with" but about the life she will choose for herself. katniss herself explains it in mockingjay: it's about choosing the dandelion in the spring, or the fire. she chooses the dandelion in the spring because she needs hope to sustain her. she has enough of her own fire; adding someone else's to it will only hurt her in the end. that doesn't mean she doesn't love gale in one way or another. that doesn't even mean that she condemns the fire. she is the fire! it only means that ending up with gale would hurt the both of them.

gale is not a bad character, and he is not a bad person. it's insane to me that people think he's a bad person, actually! he's a traumatized child whose father was killed in the mines and who has spent the formative years of his life risking his life to break the law so he can provide for his family. exactly like katniss. and he's angry about it. but not angry in an abstract way — he's angry in a directed way, in a way that makes him want to change the world they live in. and he should! that's the whole point of the series!

gale spends most of the first games with katniss's family, because he loves her and he loves them and he doesn't want them to be alone. he promises he won't let katniss's family go hungry if she dies. he takes extra tesserae so his younger siblings won't have to, even though they could use the extra food and fuel, even though it puts him at additional risk. he leads 800 scared, hungry, injured people out of district 12 when they're firebombed. when the bombs are coming for district 13, he goes upstairs to check katniss's family's compartment to make sure they're all safe and to grab the things most precious to katniss and her family, risking his own life in the process. he throws himself over katniss when the bombs drop in district 8 and follows her up to the warehouse roof without pause. he lies for her, a thousand times. he follows her across the capitol on the pipe dream of killing president snow. he doesn't hate katniss for her relationship with peeta — he even says that he knows he can't hate her, that it wasn't fair to her. he isn't even angry. he's heartbroken. he's an 18 year old boy in love with his best friend and the world keeps on ending and she was sent to die and the only way she could survive was by pretending to love another boy sent to die — and she might not be pretending, and she doesn't know, and gale is caught in all the middle of it. he's allowed to be upset! everything is so messed up!

katniss doesn't agree with everything gale does. neither do i! i don't think killing the people in the nut in district 2 was the right choice, and i'm glad katniss interrupted. but it's very easy to see where gale is coming from. one of the core themes of the series can be summed up with haymitch's repeated question: "who is the enemy?" over the course of the trilogy, we see katniss begin to comprehend the true answer. she starts off challenging the idea that the richer people in her district are the enemy, even though they don't have to take the tesserae. then she thinks it's the kids from the richer districts who are her enemy, but when she kills marvel from district 1, it feels wrong to her because he's also just a child being manipulated and used as a pawn by a violent government. like her. like rue. the enemy is not any of the people dying in the capitol's mines and orchards and factories and arenas. and in mockingjay, katniss realizes that the normal civilians in the capitol aren't even her enemy. the enemy is the ring of people at the very, very top.

where gale goes wrong is he doesn't reach the end conclusion of that. gale hasn't gone into the arena, he hasn't had to face down other scared children to atone for the "sins" of people they never met. he doesn't get it. he never will, not in the way katniss does. so he doesn't find the same answer as her.

and as for the bombs that kill prim. you see. i really, truly do not believe that they are thirteen's bombs. snow's points in his discussion with katniss don't hold up enough for me personally, and knowing as much as we do about snow, i truly do think he was trying to mess with her one more time. but within the confines of the story, it doesn't matter who dropped those bombs. in real life, yes, it would absolutely matter. but within the books, it doesn't. what matters is that it could have been either of them. capitol or thirteen. snow or coin. the point was they were trading one evil for another, and katniss couldn't be made in a pawn in that, too.

but it doesn't matter, because she will always associate that with gale. it isn't fair, because even if it was thirteen's bomb, there was no way he would agree to that, no way he would help to kill children to prove a point. but she cannot help but associate that with gale. and gale, oh gale. he will always think it, too. he will always wonder if he was the man that killed prim. the little girl he helped to take care of for years, almost another sibling to him. the little girl he helped katniss bring lady the goat home to. the little girl he would not have let starve if katniss died. the little girl he led to safety when the firebombs dropped on district twelve. he will live the rest of his life having to think he is responsible for her death.

i find gale to be one of the most tragic characters in the series. he tries so hard, to take care of the people he loves, to help others, to build something worth having. and he loses very nearly everything for it. and then the fandom vilifies him and treats him like he's worse than president snow. when really, gale was just another exploited, traumatized child whose life was warped and twisted and burned by the capitol.

Ah, it's hard to choose just 5 for the top of my list...! There are a number of ships I really like; I feel like I'm excluding some of my favorite children, haha. These are the ones I think about the most often, though.

5. Urara/Kurara: There's something really sweet about how Urara has seen Kurara at her worst and still loves her unconditionally. ;; On Kurara's end, it's more bittersweet-- she's painfully aware of how much Urara adores her in spite of how nasty and temperamental she can be, and it rips her apart inside because she doesn't feel like she deserves to be loved like that. I will withhold the "kurara loves urara too" essay for now for brevity's sake, but MAN Kurara loves Urara too!! She loves her so much that it's tearing both of them down!!!! RRAAAAGGGHFGDH it's too good......

I find it so cute that Urara refuses to give up on Kurara, even after they had such an ugly breakup. She knows that she messed things up by accidentally being insensitive, but she also knows that Kurara has issues of her own that she needs to sort out. In Urara's Kagome interview, she's like, sure, maybe things are bad right now... but people can change with time, you know? Maybe in a few years, they'll have grown enough emotionally that they'll be ready to make amends and give it another shot. I'm rooting for you, world's most patient clown. o7

Urakura can cover every base from fluff (remember, they used to be best friends!) to angst to hurt/comfort, making it very versatile and engaging to me. Combine that with the trope of "I love you no matter what, and I'll be here for you even on your worst days" (my weakness), and I never stood a chance.

4. Hikaru/Ao: My first Arc 2 ship, and still one of my favorites today! I remember seeing cute fanart for it way back when I first started playing the NA server and being super excited for the game to get to Crimson Resolve so I could learn more about them. :') While NA may have died before then, I am infinitely grateful that fan-translations mean I got to see these two anyway! (thank you hebinomiya and MUT for my life)

To explain a bit about why I like them, hm... They've got a nice dynamic in general! It's on the fluffier side without being bland, I think. Ao is playful in a way that feels a bit distant at first, but slowly opens up and starts to trust Hikaru more (a big milestone for how traumatized Ao is), while Hikaru gets a hit or miss crash course in Making Her Own Decisions. It's also interesting to contrast their individual ways of distancing themselves from their suffering (Ao trying to treat life like a game; Hikaru leaning hard into her role of "the Horse"), especially since they've both criticized the other for... doing almost exactly what they're doing themselves.

The way Hikaru tries to comfort Ao when she's scared or sad is cute, even if she doesn't know how to go about it. While Hikaru is largely numb to having to kill people at this point (wow, that's not depressing at all), she knows Ao isn't, and she gets worried when it seems like Ao is in over her head. Hikaru was the first person to worry about Ao after she accidentally killed Ryou, and when Ao seemed out of sorts in her MSS, Hikaru was the first person to seek her out. It plays nicely with Hikaru's struggle with agency as well-- she wants to help Ao, but she doesn't know where to start because she lacks experience and the ability to think for herself; she's caught between her personal desires (supporting a friend) vs. her duty to Promised Blood's goals; things like that.

As an added bonus, their designs compliment each other very nicely. Blue and orange is a solid combo. :> (And for one minor thing, I love that Ao has a swimsuit line where she's self-conscious about being a little pudgy, and then Hikaru has a swimsuit line where she says she thinks Ao is really cute. Tsuchinoko Real)

3. San/Miyuri: f4 could not have tailored a ship more closely to my interests if they tried. It's a little embarrassing... listen, you can't have san say "when she loses consciousness, she becomes my doll" and not expect me to think there's something going on These two pushed Neo-Magius from "kinda neat" to being my second-favorite faction. They're perfect as individual characters, and even better together; I adore the way they play off of each other. The way they want the best for the other and try to nudge each other towards success, even if that means enabling unhealthy thought patterns or behaviors and inadvertently strangling the other's personal growth, is fantastic.

And, of course, the lighter parts of their dynamic are just as good!! It's readily obvious how much Miyu loves San, but San loves Miyu too; she's just more subdued about showing people she cares for them. I think sometimes people forget how sad San was when Miyu started avoiding her out of guilt-- while it might not have been the same type of instant affection that Miyu felt towards San (at least until she saw Miyu dancing by herself and blushed over how pretty she was), San had very quickly gotten attached to Miyu as her baby, and was devastated to think that she might've lost her so soon.

They're more alike than they seem at first glance, and I think that's part of what makes their bond so strong-- San sees her old self in Miyu, and wants to watch her improve; Miyu sees herself in who San used to be, and admires that someone so timid can grow up to be so outwardly brave and capable. The whole thing is so sweet to me... ;;

... I might also mention that my headcanons for them help boost this up on my list, aha. I picture San as being very tall and broad-shouldered, and Miyu as a tiny little thing who could blow away in a strong breeze, which makes for a cute contrast. :')

2. Juri/Yuna: Oh man, where do I start? Everything about this ship is just perfect to me. I don't care whether they're friends, enemies, lovers, or what as long as they're together; their dynamic is flawless in every way. I'm stoked that they finally got a dual unit! ;_;

I am SO weak for the way Yuna cares about Juri. The gang wars could've been solved or prevented if Yuna had killed Juri before the situation got too bad, but she didn't want to do that. Yuna was so determined to leave Juri alive that she orchestrated that whole big fight in the first half of CR specifically to bring Juri down without killing her. It's not something that Yuna is proud of, but the fact that she manipulated a bunch of other girls (which unfortunately resulted in some casualties) because she loved this one particular loose cannon too much to kill her... man. Devotion.

Yuna is incredibly patient and understanding with Juri in general, which is extra cute to me because almost nobody else is. She knows Juri isn't a bad person, just struggling with mental illness and shitty circumstances, and no matter how Juri feels about herself, Yuna still loves her and wants her around. Not for her strength or holding Ryuugasaki together, but because Yuna cares for her as a friend. It's so... [clenches fist] AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH (´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`)

It's readily apparent how much this acceptance means to Juri, too. She used to rely heavily on Yuna for venting her stress since not only could Yuna go toe-to-toe with her in a fight (and willingly does so), she doesn't resent or demonize Juri for being the way she is. Even when Juri was hellbent on defeating Yuna in CR, she's greatly upset when she thinks that she might've actually killed her (or in the bad end where Juri does kill Yuna). For all of the animosity they held towards each other, they need each other; they don't honestly want the other to die. (Not alone, at least-- the scene where Yuna stops Juri from killing herself has an undercurrent of "how dare you try to leave without me", given that Yuna was also suicidal at the time.)

I am, as you can tell from this list, very weak for ride-or-die loyalty (or dubiously healthy attachment; take your pick), and juriyuna delivers that in spades, with all of the dressings and extras I like. Yuna's refined, serious, thoughtful personality and Juri's rowdy, aggressive, playful personality bounce off of each other in ways that are always enjoyable to see, whether it's something heavier like CR or fluffy like the Please, Yuna-san event. Top quality ship.

1. Bat/Ranka: "hmm, what if..." ← me haplessly coming up with an idea while reading CR for the first time 3 years ago, about to inflict an unbreakable curse upon myself

If I had to pick a number-one favorite ship in the series, it would be this. I am trapped in a hell of my own creation... We don't see much of their dynamic outside of CR or Ao's MSS (though Ranka does talk about the Bat elsewhere), and we've hardly gotten any of their relationship from the Bat's point of view, but that just means I can have a field day reading between the lines and piecing together a story from the scraps we do get. Enrichment!!

Ranka's "I need someone strong to follow or I'll die because I can't survive by myself" vs. the Bat's "I need someone prey on or I'll die because I can't survive by myself" is a great parallel that makes for a unique flavor of codependency. Sort of a "marionette and puppeteer" dynamic, I guess? Whatever you call it, it's 100% my brand; I go nuts for this stuff.

On Ranka's end, she knows that this relationship is unhealthy, but she keeps coming back anyway. Some of it is that she sees herself as too weak (physically and mentally) to make it on her own, so she clings to the Bat because being treated badly is better than being dead or alone. Some of it is probably that she sees herself as an awful person, and feels that she "deserves" to be hurt like this as punishment for how spineless she is (a feeling that compounds itself with every horrible thing the Bat makes her do).

It's a form of self-harm, in a way-- but even so, their relationship isn't always bad. The Bat liked Ranka enough to appoint her as her second-in-command, and for what it's worth, she did protect Ranka from the Futatsugi gang wars. She didn't take any issues with Ranka's abrasive, badmouthed personality, either! In fact, the Bat must've liked that about Ranka if she chose to keep her so close, haha. (And this is headcanon territory, but since Monzenbashi's base was an abandoned arcade, I have to figure that they shared an interest in old video games as well.)

In the end, Ranka is left in a thorny position where she hates what she has to go through, but can't bring herself to leave. After all, they have their good moments. The Bat loves her, probably. If she left, she'd be free from the abuse, but she'd lose the sense of safety and familiarity that the Bat gives her. That sort of struggle is super interesting to me-- I really like how this ship explores how loving and hating someone isn't necessarily a cut-and-dry thing.

On the Bat's end, while she does know that what she's doing is wrong, she adamantly believes that she needs to exploit others or she'll be the one to get exploited herself. She's a selfish coward who chews up the weak for personal gain and spits them out when she's through with them, viewing everyone else as either a threat to be disposed of or a tool to be used... and yet, despite all of this, she's shown to genuinely care for Ranka.

I am constantly thinking about the Ao-Ranka fight in CR where the Bat jumped to Ranka's defense, saying that she's going to kill Ao herself if Ranka is going to let herself get hurt like this. The Bat- the girl who gets a sick thrill out of torturing the helpless, who's too paranoid to trust anyone- loves Ranka enough that it made her angry to watch her get hurt. For as cruel and "save myself and fuck the rest" as she is, she has one person she wants to protect.

Something about the way the Bat wants to keep Ranka safe while also treating her like a pawn; hating the thought of losing her, but afraid of letting her get too close... fuckinf!!! Good Shit!!!!! Mix that in with Ranka's conflicting feelings about the Bat and I have a dumpster fire that will keep me warm for years.

I could be delusional (this ship is largely in my head), but it feels like a pretty realistic portrayal of an abusive relationship to me. There are all kinds of things to dig into here, from how it could get worse to how it could get better, and I just... auuuuggghhfhfh MAN im going to fling myself into the sun i love them so MUCH

If anyone's OTP is on this list, I apologize-- please know that none of these are a moral judgement or anything! 99% of my NOTPs are just ships I find annoying for one reason or another. It's nothing personal.

5. Rika/Ren: Truly the plain dry cornflakes of the magireco ship world. It's so Generic Yuri Manga that it manages to be frustrating in its lack of substance. I understand that it's one of the most popular ships (if not the most popular ship) in the fandom, but I'm gonna have to pass. :{

4. Ao/Ranka: Do you ever have a ship that bugs you, but you can't put your finger on why? This is one of those for me. Which is weird, because I am very much a multishipper when it comes to Promised Blood! And I adore the way that Ao and Ranka's relationship is written in canon! They have a really rich dynamic; I love watching them make that awkward, gradual shift from enemies to friends, where they clearly want to be closer but also don't quite know how to feel about each other. As a romantic ship, though... Eh. I've tried reading fics and stuff for them, but it's just not my thing.

3. Tsukuyo/Tsukasa/anyone: There isn't a single character who doesn't feel like a third wheel here. Sure, the twins might love her, but not as much as they love each other; she will always sort of be on the outside looking in. Tsukuyo and Tsukasa are so deeply, unshakeably intertwined that I don't even like shipping them monogamously with other characters (a singular exception being that I have a passive appreciation for Kanagi/Tsukasa), so adding a third girl to the mix is out of the question by default.

Yukika is probably the worst offender in terms of third wheel-ness because of her "Akatsuki-senpai" thing, but Amanes/Mifuyu wins the general awkwardness category by virtue of giving me the unfortunate impression of a mistress to a married couple. I tried reading various OT3 fics with the Amanes to see if I'd warm up to the idea, I did, but... it's regular amanecest or bust for me.

2. Kuroda/Asahi: it's not even about the abuse and general assholery on kuroda's end (heavy drama can be interesting with the right framework) it's that the idea of shipping asahi with a dude gives me hives

1. Himena/Hiko: het ship allergy strikes again, im sorry 😔 Sometimes I feel kinda dumb for this one because I know I'd probably like it if Hiko was a girl, but alas. Not only do I have negative interest in M/F, Hiko is the most boring self-insert-looking nerd guy they possibly could've designed. Ungh. (himena is a fun, fascinating character, i like her a lot, but the depths of my distaste mean that whenever a scene comes up where himena talks to/about hiko, i subconsciously overwrite it with "hiko is a girl" or "hiko is imaginary" to make it more palatable to me orz)

Plus the "unpopular boy gets bullied for dating popular girl" plotline feels super contrived to me-- while my experiences are obviously not universal, I usually find that unpopular guys get boosted up the social ladder if they manage to land a date with a popular girl. The whole "forbidden love" trope needs to be done in a very particular way in M/F ships in order for me to not find it stupid, and this one doesn't hit the mark.

... and this is a silly thing to be annoyed by, but it really does grate on me that whenever you ship Himena with a different character, there's an 85% chance that at least one person will come along like "what about hiko?" or "poor hiko" or "ot3 with hiko!" or whatever. Even if you specify that you've written Hiko out of Himena's head in some way or another (got his own body again, never existed in the first place, etc.), someone will make him the focal point regardless. It's happened to me, and it's happened to a few other people I've seen. :'| Frustrating to see an interesting comment on himesasha or w/e get derailed into "but himehiko!!", as if everything Needs to revolve around this one singular boy.

hi hi hi today's reminder is correct me if I'm wrong but taeil hasn't been on hiatus super long. it's been, what, a couple of months at most? it was a little bit before the concert if i remember correctly. so you're telling me that 127 (well…certain members, but my point stands) have been unemployed for Months, to the point where fans were begging sm to show us taeil, and they decided to shoot the promo material for the new 127 album while they were preparing for/actually performing a whole other concert instead of while they were free??? and made the staff pick/edit/draft the content on what I'm sure was an insane deadline?? like that's nine whole, very distinct, films, that would've taken ages. i don't pretend to be an expert on k pop idol scheduling but surely there's better ways to go about it

anyway. i love that they still included taeil while letting him heal up. the vibe of these have been all over the place tho because why is jaehyun negotiating a deal with a sophisticated mob boss while taeil is straight up being given drugs at a night club? why is jungwoo just playing games while doyoung is contemplating what went wrong in his marriage in front of a pet shop aquarium?

Hiii, yeah it seems like golden age teasers were done over at least the past year as they all traveled during tours and even sent someone to film Winwin during his personal schedules. So to cram 127s in the span of like two or three months was definitely a decision since they all vary quite greatly but perhaps because they're all just in Korea and seemingly the same area that could of helped but how they did it is a mystery to me as well. It was a nice way to include taeil while he's resting. And I so far deciphered two distinct vibes there's the somber, dark film vibe with Johnny, Yuta, Doyoung and Jaehyun then the more light hearted party vibe with Mark, Jungwoo and Taeyong. Haechan fits in with the light hearted part. And Taeil's a mix of the both but because it's an animation I can't quite feel the vibe as well. But it does fit 127s overall energy. And my best guess the theme is overall quite dark and grungy which like watch it be the exact opposite but somehow be about getting a blowjob behind a 7\11. Which Jungwoo, you know where to find me.

Also unrelated but skz VMAs talk once more but I was weary of the reactions to skz watching Megan and Cardi perform. Why? cause I know how kpop fans are. And I didn't care about their reactions but I was prepared to be angry at things that fans said and look at that I was right. And I just wanna say

one, they're grown ass men I highly doubt they haven't seen a Cardi b or Megan music video. We've seen NCT sing Megan, Cardi and Nicki songs. Kpop idols haven't been sheltered from the obscenity of female rappers chill.

Two Changbin and Hyunjin weren't looking away from Megan twerking they were watching Cardi walk over to the other stage. Just like they were watching Megan perform on that same stage for her verse.

Three they weren't fucking traumatized, they're not innocent babies being corrupted by the female body. Someone said the dancers were so sexualized they couldn't watch it. Use sexualized wrong again, I want a kpop fan to use sexualize the wrong way again.

The dancers, Cardi & Megan choose to dress and dance that way it's a choice. Was it my choice for my class to look up my skirt and the teacher not stop it or say a word or for boys to try to throw things in my cleavage when i was 14 was that my choice? No. There's a fucking difference. Not everything sexual is sexualized. Sometimes it's just sexy and that's okay. Women are allowed to express their sexuality. I'm sorry that just triggers something in me.

Anyway all of the negative things I see are definitely slightly if not blatantly anti black, sexist,infantalizing, and I've even seen fatphobia which....why the fuck? God forbid women have fat on their body. This may seem over dramatic but I will never forgive kpop fans for what they did to cupcakke so I am hyper vigilant and the hate kpop fans have toward black women is just so disgusting. But yeah how dare women dress and perform as they wish in an area where your precious innocent 21 to 25 year old men are and clearly there's no way they can enjoy such sexual performances. I wanted to call those fans very mean things but I will say. All fans over the age of 20 and with common sense are cool and I love you and are a good 68% of the fans the rest of y'all, just grow up.

Ughhh I'm so tired of following the hunger games tag when most of the posts are just people shitting on Gale. I don't understand the appeal and honestly it feels like these people are stuck in middle school shipping wars or something.

Also they are totally trying to cope with the fact that the hunger games wasn't lovey dovey enough for them by shitting on Gale and pretending that Katniss was always head over heels for Peeta.

Or maybe, once again, they just read too many fanfics and hunger game copies. Let's see, in Divergent there's one love interest and one guy friend who's in love with the protagonist. Tris, the main character, is head over heels in love with this hunky mysterious dude. Meanwhile her friend who isn't attractive to her is in love with her and when she rejects him he goes crazy and commits crimes against her. So are you guys confusing Hunger games with Divergent? Blasphemous tbh.

I think it's pretty obvious when you read the books that Peeta and Gale are both good guys, otherwise they wouldn't react the exact same way to the same situation only a few pages apart. Gale is not a murderer and did not murder Prim, and if you think that you're just trying to cope with the fact that you think Gale is hotter than Peeta and you need a reason to hate him so you're fine with Katniss not choosing him.

The books are over. Katniss ended up with Peeta, she chose to be with him. There is no shipping war to play out, so why even smear Gale like this? He's just a character who Katniss didn't fall in love with. The only thing he did wrong was kiss her without asking first but I seriously can't remember if this was in the books or not. I remember a lot of kissing between Katniss and Gale where Katniss wants to kiss him for her own selfish reasons: Either because she feels sorry for him and thinks this will help, or because it makes her feel alive. Katniss is actively misleading him, and it's fine because everyone makes mistakes and she's young but like she knows he's in live with her so she should probably not kiss him and let him think that she wants him?

Meanwhile Katniss kisses Peeta like a million times .... not because she wants to. Because she's forced to. In a few of these instances she mentions feeling good about it anyway, but it falls flat for me when she is being forced to kiss someone. It seems to me that any time Katniss deals out kisses, it's a bad thing. Yet the everlark fandom keeps romantizising it and claiming that Katniss kisses peeta because she loves him. To me, kisses is obviously not the way that Katniss shows love, she just does it to try to please others and it's never born of her own desire for someone. If I had this history with kissing, I would be traumatized and never want to kiss anyone ever again, especially the person I have been forced to kiss.

Katniss is a complicated character and the hunger games series are complicated books. They're not your avarage love triangle shipping war material, so why is team Everlark still shitting on Gale? It's ridicolous

Hi Kiya! My day's going alright, thanks for asking!

I'll be honest, it's so hard for me to choose! I think I'm going to go with my very first bnha fic, Those Damn Flowers; one of my most successful fics, Heaven And Earth Between Us; and one that I love dearly, Songbird.

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: there are major spoilers for all three of those fics ahead, as well as for Danganronpa (in general) and my fic series Pit Of Vipers.

9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

For Those Damn Flowers, I was at a bit of a crossroads at one point. I'm fairly certain it was around Chapter 14 or so. I wasn't sure whether to give Shouta his old memories back or let him focus on making new memories with Hizashi. I brainstormed for both, but ultimately decided to just give Shouta his old memories back all at once (also, because I was kinda running out of steam in writing that fic, lol).

Writing Heaven And Earth Between Us was fairly linear, if I remember correctly. While the gods may have had some (i.e., a lot) of angst over the length of the story, there was never a doubt in my mind that it would end well for them. I think the only thing I was going back and forth over was Monoma's death, but even that was short-lived.

I remember wondering if I should really go through with killing off literally every main character in the story. I kept going back and forth, because Hizashi is supposed to be good, so why would he kill the other three? There was a very short alternate ending I thought of, where Hizashi wasn't even thinking of the other three prisoners, and instead just died next to Shouta. This alternate ending would either end with all three of the teenagers dying of starvation or getting rescued but being irreversibly traumatized. I'm glad I ended up with the ending I did, though. I'd recently watched Danganronpa3 (spoilers!) with my boyfriend, and I was sort of equating Nezu's influence to Junko's influence. If someone is tainted by Despair, they need to be cured or killed, and there was no curing what Nezu and his teas did.

11. What do you like best about this fic?

I think Those Damn Flowers will always have a special place in my heart simply because it was my first bnha fic. Sure, the writing is a little clunky in places, but it's special to me. Also, I'd really gotten into hanahaki at the time of writing it, mainly thanks to this art series. I'd read quite a few hanahaki stories at the time, and they were all pretty much the same: person A starts coughing up flowers for person B (and knows why they're coughing up flowers bc everyone knows about hanahaki), A is about to die, B sees the flowers and confesses their love, and thus saves A's life. There's nothing wrong with that, but I wanted to find a fic where nobody knew what was going on and where the person with hanahaki willingly takes the surgery (which is supposed to erase the memories of the other person). I looked, but I couldn't find any, so I just created one.

Heaven And Earth Between Us is one of my favorite fics that I've written. I'll catch myself daydreaming about the universe, thinking about Katsu-Misæ and Toshihiro’Máni's relationship. I've created a playlist of songs for the story that I listen to regularly. I've always said I try to write stories that I would read myself, and this one is no exception. I think it appeals to me so much because it allows my creativity to run wild. I can imagine Katsu-Misæ dipping his toes into a glowing river of magma or Toshihiro’Máni putting his crown on and seeing all the humans' dreams like billions of stars laid out before him. It's such beautiful imagery that it's hard not to think about it when I'm listening to the music.

While Songbird is significantly shorter than Flowers and Heaven, it still feels special to me. I've always loved forced villain stories, especially when the main character is so messed up that they can't even tell what's right anymore. The confusion and inner struggle to piece together his past is what makes 159 eventually break away from Nezu, even after years of his influence. And it was killing Shouta that finally broke his mind enough that he was able to remember. But, I think what I like best about Songbird is its ending. After being dealt a fatal blow, Hizashi lies down next to Shouta's body, holds his hand, and screams to bring the ceiling down on them both. But, instead of pain, Hizashi sees Shouta, is able to embrace him and tell him that he loves him. His body is even smiling serenely when its found. It's a fitting end for both sides of him; 159 is dead once and for all, but he's also able to be with Shouta in the afterlife. I suppose I was going for a more wholesome version of The Venom Of Serpents, The Deadly Poison Of Cobras, where the protagonist kills everyone and then himself. In Songbird, Hizashi was already dying, and he wanted to be with Shouta in his final moments, while in Venom, Hitoshi only killed himself because that was the only way he could kill Viper. Personally, I can't choose which version of the ending I like the best.

Ooooh, is it ok to go with a whole seeker trine? I'd like to hear more about Aero, Killnight and Kickthrust owo Here's my trine (feel free to skip whoever you want, I know it may be a bit much! ^.^") :

Renfrew - traumatized soldier, lost his only trinemate Hurricane and then after ages of being forced to fight finally bonded again but lost his other love too. Survived only because turned out Hurricane never died and they reunited. Ren has chronic pain, PTSD and foggy processor but slowly improves. Coming to Earth was a great change of environment for him and after adjusting to the place he got interested in gardening. This peaceful hobby calms his nerves. Soft and gentle bab, loves Breeze very much and gets a bit paranoid when they're away for too long. Avoids conflicts at all cost but can attack in panic if you hurt his trinemate (doesn't matter bonded or not). When Cybertron is safe enough to come back to he gets interested in cyber plants and programs focusing on restoring Cybertron's flora. Shy and careful at first turns out to be very nice, friendly and willing to listen and/or give advice if he can.

Breeze - formerly Hurricane. After getting separated from Ren he got his processor wiped out and became a personal toy to one bad guy. Pole/aerial dancing and being just a silly pretty influencer/celebrity/model (and moneymaker for his master) became his whole life. Deep down he felt there must be sth more to life than being a caged bird. After escaping and reuniting with Ren (you can wipe out memories from a processor but not strong bonds from a spark) he slowly starts rediscovering himself. He's good at management and diplomacy and becomes the one who later runs the Sanctuary (safe place for those who want to rest after the war). Braincell of the trine, not afraid of asking if he doesn't know something, makes a bunch of human friends. Hardworking, friendly and understanding. Having 2 trinemates with completely different needs and both needing his near constant attention was pretty tasking so only later he rediscovered his love for gaming. May not remember how to fight but he sure will if someone hurts his trinemates.

Taffy - boytoy owned by the same guy who owned Breeze. On the contrary to his bonded, he loved their life as pretty princesses and seriously loved their red flag of a master. Looks like dumb bitch juice is his fuel, at first he seems selfish, ignorant and limited to just flirting and being pretty but in fact he has a good spark (he's the idea giver for the Sanctuary because "no one should live in in the horrible terrible conditions known as any-less-luxurious-than-my-life-in-the-palace-was"). It's just that he never got a chance learn and to be anyone else. The sudden change of the environment is very hard and stressful for him and causes those worse parts of him show. At that time he tended to get jealous, moody and even manipulative. Luckily after some time of getting used to the new situation and getting new friends he started being more open and became trully willing to learn and be better. It wasn't easy but he was determined. After a few identity crisises and many ups and downs he's... still his silly sexy flirty self. But now on his own terms, now way more considerate of others and respecting their boundaries. He matures a lot and trying to recreate his fav luxurious dishes develops love for cooking. At some point got arrested for almost killing his and Breeze's former master. Opens a restaurant/cafe.

Breeze is bonded to both, Taf and Ren have a "trinemate of my trinemate" relationship for a very long time untill Ren heals his broken spark and Taffy matures. Even long before bonding they learn to understand, care for and respect one another and become close friends before their feelings start growing. At some point they open another sanctuary on Cybertron and work together to make the world a better, nicer place with a bit more luxury and kindness in it.

(Again - feel free to pick and choose!)

Aero-

Aero would probably get along better with Ren than the other two, mostly over their shared love of plants but he is the more openly empathetic/understanding out of his trine (not perfect by any means but he’s the better of the three). He’s been doing extensive research pretty much his entire life despite the war, so would be more than willing to help out in Ren’s plans to restore cybertronian fauna/flora. Mostly the flora.

He’d be polite to Breeze and Taffy and supports their Sanctuary idea, but he wouldn’t be quite as interested in conversing with them. Less so in Taffy if he does even the tiniest bit of flirting, he isn’t a fan of that at all. The cafe’s cool tho.

Killnight-

Killnight is distant and quick to draw his swords on someone, but he would (awkwardly) sympathize with the trine. They all got pretty messed up in different ways and he gets that, though not even his own trine mates know what he’s gone through. While he might not befriend Ren, Breeze or Taffy, he’d wish them the best in their goals and leave it at that.

Kickthrust-

Kickthrust is honestly kind of a bully to everyone, even his trine mates. He’s wild, selfish and has an unhealthy obsession with guns.

His punk-ass attitude might actually get him killed by the trine if Kill and Aero aren’t there to keep him in check.

(Aero would be constantly apologizing for his awful behavior but let’s be real Kick might benefit from a beating or two…. Or three)

THATS IT I BEAM MY VERY IN PROGRESS PLA AU AT YOU ALL.

tw neck wounds + death, spoilers for both pla and bw2

Ok so. Wild fucked up au where Hisui is just a little more evil and violent and shit.

The 'protag' is 'Me', [They/Them] an amnesiac who fell from the rift. They didn't really CHOOSE their name either, it just kinda stuck [every time they were asked their name they answered "I'm Me.]. They're always cold to the touch and they just... look dead. Spoiler alert; they ARE dead.

Their team isn't fully decided [still doing a playthrough for this lol] but I know Friend the Decidueye is there [the current team concept is decidueye, arcanine, sneasler, garchomp, zoroark and gyarados]

Me [who's real name i haven't decided] was from Unova! They were a random trainer who died during the events of Black and White 2 [as it was also a bit more violent in this au] when Kyurem froze Opelucid town over via icicles into the neck. Their corpse was in a small alley between two random houses and their death was obviously painful and long.

Arceus revived Me to help fix the 'problem' happening in Hisui. He tried coaxing other non-dead people to help before, but when he did that multiple portals opened up all over the world. Arceus fixed everything the best he could, bringing those who'd fallen into the portals back, but of course, even as God, he isn't perfect and missed Ingo. Me, of course, has no qualms with this, as they have no memory.

Me is terrified of the cold. They can't feel their own body's coldness, but people keep bringing it up. Their travel to the icelands is as quick as it can be [with a short detour of falling into the ice caves, having a panic attack and leaving with a Zorua] and they're done with the place as soon as they can be.

There is no Arc-Phone. Arceus talks to them directly. Their neck wound glows when Arceus talks to them or when they are distressed [their eyes also do this, it looks like train headlights]. As a side affect of this Me has gained a little bit of magic power- when they reach extremely high emotions [again, mostly distress] it glows and bursts out a little ripple of light energy.

Their memories are super hazy and they aren't all that interested in getting them back. It's intriguing, they won't lie, but do they really need them back? It turns out, yes- Me gets their memories back over the course of the game; mostly kicked off by the cutscene with Ingo in Coronet Highlands [I really like ingo being like. An uncle to them. So that happens lol]- they SWEAR they know what a train is, which is funny because the only train they'd know of is the Battle Subway, haha- and ends in the icelands where they remember their death [a traumatizing experience]

Being banished is a lot worse than in game. Me, in distress and despair at being cast out after doing everything they were told, calming frenzied nobles, working on the pokedex [granted, they actually liked the pokedex!], getting almost ripped to shreds by alphas and doing tasks for villagers that turned out to hate them, has their arceus magic ring stuff activate. They are literally chased out of Jubilife. They are not allowed back after the end-game events. Their Decidueye steals the clothes they wore when they first arrived in Hisui [comfort items] and Me takes their chance in the wild. It takes longer for Volo to track them down.

Volo is well aware of Me's association with Arceus. Their neck wound and funky looking eyes and the GLOWING; it's obvious to him that they are associated with him.

Uh uh this is as far as I got really. The ending idea is that Me, realizing their connection to Arceus, asks him to send them and Ingo back after finishing up their little mission with Volo, and he agrees. They gather up all the plates, Me tells everyone they want to goodbye, and then-

Volo betrays them. Me, enraged, tired of everything, beaten battered and bruised and tired and fucking COLD beats the shit out of his pokemon, and then they turn on him. Giratina quite literally saves Volo's life but at this point all the held back everything Me's been going through just overflows. At one point in the story Me starts growing icicles from the literal ice hell-beam straight from Kyurem, which has embedded itself into them. It gets worse when they're upset. At this point Me is a fucking ice bomb waiting to explode.

They beat Giratina and just. Yell. Their neck scar and eyes glow a wild, bright golden, and then EVERYTHING glows. It can be seen all across Hisui. Everyone gets the feeling something is wrong. Volo fucking books it- the best idea he's had.

He lives because of this.

And then Me kinda just... explodes into an ice ball? The entire ruins just implode with large icicles, visible across the region. Me fucking dies, again.

And that's all I got rn! Fucked up and evil plot shit but that's my specialty.

Subcon Forest Analysis

Hi everyone I'm here to spill my aggressive overflowing thoughts on Subcon Forest and what it represents because it's been driving me insane since I finished the Sleepy Subcon time rift. Okay let's go. Obvious spoilers for AHIT ahead so proceed with caution.

This is also very, very long.

Disclaimer/warning: I will be discussing abusive/unhealthy relationships in this analysis. I mean. Vanessa. Come on. Also, there is a section on the nooses, and that delves, of course, into mentions of suicide. It will be sectioned off and easily skipped, but if you'd rather be safe and skip the entire post, that's completely understandable! Please stay safe. <3

Alright. Main point to be had here:

Subcon Forest is a giant extended metaphor for Snatcher's mind and character.

You all get to now listen to me spout nonsense about metaphors and symbolism because I'm a sucker for analysis and I'm given an opportunity to go ham. So perish.

The Ice

Let's start with the most obvious and most glaring thing in Subcon. The ice. It's everywhere. Not just outside Vanessa's manor, either; no, it's throughout the village, too. Shows up in the well and in random locations sprinkled about. When it comes to literal plot, we know that ice is just what lingers after Vanessa's wintery curse on Subcon. But going deeper and analyzing the meaning behind it?

Well, let's look at this from the perspective I've suggested. Subcon Forest being an extended metaphor for Snatcher's mind and character. A symbol for Vanessa then litters his mind, enough where it's certainly noticeable at first but blends in more easily once more of Subcon is unlocked to Hat Kid. This is clearly meant to be his lingering trauma, whether or not he wants to acknowledge it. Which he doesn't, as he never mentions it directly in his forest (that I can recall). Her influence plagues him, as to be expected with the traumatic experiences he went through with her. Breaking the ice is something Hat Kid must do in order to fulfill the wishes of the Fire Spirits (another subject I'll get into shortly), which, if self-indulgently playing with the found family idea, could mean that Hat Kid is helping him heal; if indirectly. Even if fulfilling the Fire Spirits' wish to die is... counterproductive, in that measure, which I'm now getting ahead of myself so hold on a sec!!

Vanessa. Ice. Everywhere. Traces of it all over his forest. That's the effects of an abusive relationship! Especially in a worst-case scenario where... yknow! One party in the relationship dies! So of course ice would be everywhere.

In and of itself, ice is a common symbol in literature and other forms of media. In this case, it's presented as an antagonistic force; emphasis is placed upon freezing and the harm that comes with it. The cold is unwelcoming, threatening, merciless. Snow can act as an insulating force, at least, but ice cannot. It can only make things colder.

A slight stretch: Seeing as this game deals a lot with time shenaniganry, I'm not sure if it'd be too out of left field to connect "freezing" with the theme of time. Yknow. Frozen in time. Both parties here, Snatcher and Vanessa, would be in this frozen state. One largely repressing it and never fully moving on, and the other doomed to her isolation ever since the event in question. They never moved past that moment after the Prince and florist's interaction.

The Fire Spirits (& the Portraits)

I'll put a slight warning here for suicidal ideation, if only because... it's the Fire Spirits we're talking about. It's not as grossly in-detail as the noose discussion will be, though, so make of that what you will.

To me, the Fire Spirits are a very interesting case. After all, they're fire. They're a direct contrast to the ice, thus being the only thing we're shown that could potentially melt it. The Fire Spirits, in my opinion, represent hope or a strength to continue. A strength to move on after troubles of the past.

...And that hope wants to die.

The Fire Spirits wish to burn out, to leave this mortal coil and abandon the forest to the cold. They make no effort to melt the ice, they simply dance, blissfully ignorant towards their surroundings. This being a metaphor for Snatcher's own hope for moving on is made all the more obvious by the fact he wants them gone. The first contract is to kill the Fire Spirits, to kill the hope. Perhaps he believes that sort of thing to be fruitless or naïve, so it only clutters his mind or has him foolishly optimistic at points. So, get rid of it. And the hope is happy to oblige.

(That, or their willingness to leave the forest to its own suffering and not aid in the ice's thaw angers him. Besides the whole "bark bark growl I can't get to parts of my forest because of them!!" which... also could represent a naïve hope clouding his judgement, not allowing him to see a bigger picture. But hope can't all be lost if one wants to move forward...)

A little side-tangent now on the portraits! And it's another slight stretch but the idea is in my head and I can't let it go. Portraits are another common symbol, usually being a physical representation of a memory or idea. For our purposes, let's say they're memories. I know in canon they appear to just hold souls captive or something but for now we're just Ignoring That(tm). The Fire Spirits have to burn the portraits to disappear. See where I'm going with this, maybe?

Instead of handling bad memories (or perhaps memories of the past in general) in any healthy manner, Snatcher chooses to forget/repress them, which just allows his hope to progressively die out.

I'm really hoping this is making sense because it makes a lot of sense to me but I might be insane rn

The Fact that this is a Forest

Forest symbolism breakdown! What's a forest usually mean in literature? "Traditionally, the forest has come to represent being lost, exploration and potential danger as well as mystery and 'other worldliness'." Okay. Yeah. Fair enough. That certainly works with the whole aesthetic we've got going on. Wood usually is life, growth and strength. But the trees of subcon are all dead. So what about that? It stands for death, big whoop, very spooky, we know Snatcher's dead and so are the children, yadda yadda wowie wowie. But. :) The trees in Subcon look a lot like trees that were scorched in a forest fire. Don't believe me?

(You could also argue they're just regular marsh/swamp trees bUT SSHHSUUHSH HANG ON HEAR ME OUT LOOK LOOK,)

What I believe to have happened was a controlled fire to rid the forest of the majority of its ice and snow. Likely done by Snatcher. It leaves behind a very desolate, depressing, barren scene... but. What else do dead/burnt trees symbolize? Rebirth. After all, controlled fires happen to make way for new trees to take the place of old ones. Some trees only drop seeds in fires/hot temperatures, so new ones take root and begin anew. Weird. It's almost like... I dunno. Snatcher was given some sorta second chance, given he's not just a corpse in Vanessa's cellar. So were the subconites. Another life given then by Snatcher. All connected I tell ya!!

Generally, aside from that, forests have many connotations. Mystery, isolation, claustrophobia; a place to dwell on regrets, or the past; to worry over one's future; to seek escape from or escape inside of... hmgmrnmm!

The Nooses

The t/w is given at the top and another cut-off point will follow the bottom of this, for those that would like to skip. This will delve into talk of suicide and abusive tactics used by abusers. Please don't read if it will upset you or make you feel unsafe!!!

Personally, I cannot stand the nooses, but that's just due to my own triggers. Were there a way to hide those from the game or replace the damned talking ones with anything else. I would take it. In a heartbeat. But I can still appreciate the potential analysis to be had with them. So now i'm gonna talk about it despite how uncomfortable it will make me to do so. yEa

So, what about 'em? There are three types of nooses seen in Subcon. At least that I remember but I didn't really go looking for them. Empty ones, ones containing empty subconites, and the talking ones.

Nooses in general obviously can hint towards suicidal thoughts or behaviors of the characters that interact with them. If saying Subcon is Snatcher's mind, it could suggest that he suffered from some sort of suicidal thoughts in life (or currently, if second death is possible... or if he never truly died... or maybe he's trying to figure that out...which has given me... a separate idea...uh oh). But. And hear me out. Different perspective.

A talking noose. I hate them with a fiery passion that is unmatched. But think of the packed symbolism of a noose that talks. And think more about what it says. "I wouldn't mind being strapped around a cute neck like yours." "Be careful now, I don't want to see you meet a miserable end anywhere, but with me." Oddly, a lot of what the noose says seems almost... endearing? One could argue it's a way of luring someone to put it around their necks, which in and of itself is a whole lot to unpack when it comes to suicidal thoughts beckoning one forward; painting itself as something romantic, almost. But. Here's a wild idea, now. What if the nooses, at least the talking ones, are another symbol for Vanessa?

They're tinted blue, after all. While Vanessa's scheme is more red, one could argue two things: One, ice. Blue. Ice. yeah. Or two, the fact that Snatcher's scheme is more purple. Blue and red... make... purple. So, for all we know, Snatcher's current state was a compound effort between suicidal thoughts and Vanessa's treatment of him. Perhaps he even found a way to put himself out of his misery before freezing/starving to death. (I know he has dialogue that argues against that, but... are we certain Snatcher would be the kind to admit suicide over freezing to death?... I don't think so.)

At any rate, a common threat by those in "control" of an abusive relationship is that of killing themselves should the other person not do as they desire. It's a cruel form of emotional manipulation to get their way, worse off if the other party is an empathetic individual. As a person who has been the empathetic individual in relationships like this... I would know. I've been here, unfortunately So, it's not completely out of the question to say Vanessa could've used some tactic like that, even before the whole... cellar ordeal. Did she? I dunno. I'm tossing ideas around. But if she did, the threats of such would sit around in the Prince's mind easily. Even if she has a reputation of not going through with it. It doesn't matter. That shit sticks with you forever, that scare, the potential of it ever being true, is horrifying and it ruins you. I'm projecting, Squirtle.

Still. A noose cannot hang itself. It has to have a victim.

Misc. Ideas

- The spiders: Aside from the usual things spiders can be chalked up to symbolizing - toxicity, alluring danger, just... general pain - I like the potential wordplay that can happen here. Yknow. A black widow. Say the Prince and Vanessa were married when one died. What would that leave Vanessa? A widow. ...She's red and black, too. Yknow. Like a black widow. HA wordplay is fun isn't it?

- Snatcher's tree: Love this place, love sitting in here. But not the point! The inside of Snatcher's tree is such a harsh juxtaposition to the rest of Subcon that it kinda throws ya off guard. After all, the dark, purples and blues then contrasted with the bright warm colors of the inside. Even the music switches over. The thorns outside aren't present indoors. Ohh yeah this is gonna be on the nose as hell but the Tree(tm) is 100% representing Snatcher's appearance/put-on personality vs. his truer nature. Spooky outside with thorns, foreboding, unwelcoming. After she's finished being useful, he no longer wants her around, lest she find some things she shouldn't find. Now he's just uncomfortable with her in his personal boundaries. Could just be a denial that she's helped him heal (breaking ice, stealing from Vanessa, being something interesting for his kids to interact with) or just not really wanting a child to get wrapped up in. All that. Most likely the former. Considering the amount of joke-hints he drops regarding his background during his Death Wish dialogue. I see you funny man, making jokes out of your trauma as a coping mechanism. Punts him

ahh baccano, one of my old faves. I will answer as anime/light novel

My rating (1-10) anime: 7/10 - super fun and the dub and music choices are excellent, but the anime lost a lot of character depth and the dialogue sounds a bit stupid. the action and animation was good for 2007 but the off-model shots in the ova bring it down. light novel: 9/10: I can't rate the novels accurately because I've been in love with it for so many years but I always found the plots, character arcs, writing style, originality, impeccable structure and planning, and illustrations magnificent. I used to do a yearly reread but I lost steam a while ago. must say the portrayal of samsa was awful in both versions and in general narita has no idea what he's talking about when he tries to address antiblack racism in america. besides that, his treatmenf of racism in the novels overall feels very shallow and awkwardly done to me. but I do love his enthusiasm for mob movies and stuff, it really shines through and I always enjoyed his perspective and portrayal of new york. to the extent that I got excited in hs when we visited the city, lol. ah I miss my baccano liveblogging years

My favourite character: chane, claire, jacuzzi, nice, and firo/really hard to choose between all the incredible characters but my favorite character for only her novel appearance is ennis, and my favorite novel-only characters are probably rail (nonbinary traumatized scarred arsonist rly hit me) and nile (heart eyes)

My least favourite character: poet is rly annoying :/ christopher without fail is deeply hateful but only in his first appearance? after his first book he's fine. also I do not like novel firo lmao he's a better character with a lot more depth but he's a homophobic misogynist and he pisses me off. tim is boring. also renee fuck her. anime ladd is even worse than novel ladd and that's saying something

The character I think I’d be friends with: everyone would be friends with isaac and miria :) otherwise...hard to say. I'll go with nile because he's very straighforward and sincere like I hope to be and also he's very hot. oh and niki :( niki my girl. and chane and ennis too!

The character I think I won’t hit off with: FIRO. actually most of them tbh everyone is off the walls ad I would be afraid for my life

My favourite episode/scene: RAIL TRACER REVEAL/*googles novel titles* Grand Punk Railroad obvs, The Slash, Crack Flag is slightly messy but struturally brilliant, uhh for scenes I don't remember too many specifically but anything with claire and chane just makes me melt even tho they are slightly problematic. end of grand punk railroad with jacuzzi too! the anime got some of the greatest scenes from the novels in imo

Whose clothing style I like best: anyone in the 1930s arc plus monica. I LOVE 1930s style especially with the caps I think they're so neat. nothing in the 2000s I really disliked that arc. it contains every trope I hate for married couples and for romantic plots. even though I think it was rly well done and I love illness and the Reveal is Very Good

Times I watched it (and if I would again): 5 or 6 times?/ at least 5. idk if I'd watch the show again I kind of have it memorized and I like the novel plot more. I will definitely read the novels again we're just waiting on those last two books.

for anyone reading, I want to note that the baccano anime is extremely gory and contains depictions of torture, including child torture, fantasy cannibalism, child abuse, and gun/knife violence*

the light novels contain all these, plus fictional cults that abuse children, suicide, references to sexual assault and child sexual assault as backstory, and joking references to incest (thanks, 2002) - this is not comprehensive, it's been a few years. it's an intense series so stay safe if you're interested. I think a lot of the assault and cult topics are used for shock value tbh.

I’m sorry that this took me so long, but I hope you like it! This one was definitely interesting for me to write. However, I would like to say that most of these end on lighter notes, even though they deal with abuse. I’m sorry if that comes off as romanticizing it in any way, but I assure you that that was not my intent. As it is a request based around the topic of abuse, there’s obviously abuse warnings

Yoosung:

You and Yoosung were going to hang out for the night and you were on snack duty, so you came to the dorm after stopping at the convenience store

He shouted a greeting through the dorm saying he only needed another five minutes while you were setting your wallet and keys down

When you walked over to his desk, it looked like he was playing rough map and he had headphones on, so you decided to stay quiet and look through a book that was on an end table

Once you had settled in to the other chair and started the novel, you noticed that he was banging his mouse slightly with how much he was clicking it

You tried to ignore it but then he started to practically yell at the monitor

At this point, you were curled up into the chair, an instinct to make yourself smaller

Yoosung turned around in his chair in exasperation while taking off his headphones then noticed how you were sitting as his eyes widened slightly

You were trying to speak but you couldn’t without stuttering slightly

“S-sorry, Yoosung. You just s-scared me a bit-t” “Nononono, MC! I’m really sorry for getting angry. Are you alright?”

Taking a few breaths before you were to explain, you started moving to sit normally

“Yoosung, please don’t think any different of me when I tell you this, alright?”

In response, he just nodded wildly, forgetting about his game

“So remember when Zen asked me if I was dating anyone, and I said I just got out of a relationship? Key words, got out. I was, well, it was abusive, and I didn’t want to talk about it. You’re the only one of the RFA I’m telling for now, so please don’t say anything yet. Anyways, they would always yell at me before they would physically hurt me, so I associate someone yelling with that. I didn’t, I didn’t mean to freak you out or anything. I’m sor-“

Yoosung was not having this, but didn’t want to make you any less comfortable so he tried to keep his face straight

“MC! Don’t apologize! It’s, it’s not your fault at all. I should be really sorry, and I am. I got annoyed, because I’ve been in this area for the past four hours, and I haven’t been able to get a drop. I’m really really sorry! I’ll try my absolute best to not yell around you again, MC” “Thank-thank you, Yoosung” “Can I, can I hug you, MC?”

You nodded slightly and he practically teleported he went so fast to the chair you were on to hug you

“You’re really strong for going through that, MC, and I promise I won’t tell anyone else unless you say it’s okay”

Nodding again, you let him stay like that for a few minutes before offering to get up and get the food so you could watch the movie

Once you noticed he was crying ten minutes in, you laughed slightly thinking about how considerate he could be and how he wouldn’t hurt you

Zen:

You were staying at his home since he got injured again, mindlessly watching some random soap opera while chatting in the messenger

Jaehee: I can’t believe that Zen is doing three roles in different productions at once.MC: Yeah, he’s not home much, and when he is, he’s practicing linesJaehee: He can only work so much. I hope he doesn’t work too hard.MC: It’s more promo pictures anyways lolJaehee: Very true! The ones that came out today are already saved on my phone

The front door opened with Zen finishing up a phone call

MC: Be right back, Jaehee. He just got back, and he looks a little pissedMC has left the chatroom

“-Yes, have a good evening, Sir” “Hi, Zen! How was tonight’s rehearsal? You sounded exaspera-“ “It was awful. Nobody could get their shit together while starting the dance numbers, and the director kept yelling”

He went on for a few minutes, ranting while putting his jacket and bag up by the door and waving his hands around

While he was turning around to face you with his hand still moving, you flinched slightly

Zen stopped talking instantly and put his arm down just as quickly

“MC! Babe, I would never hit you. I’m so sorry that you would think that! I promise that I’ll never go off aga-“ “Zen, it’s fine. I didn’t think you would,” you paused to word this correctly, “It’s just what I’m conditioned to do. Like a habit”

Half of you wanted for him to drop it, another part wanted him to ask so that someone would know

Besides, you trusted him the most out of RFA anyways

Back to the present, Zen looked downright personally attacked by what you said

“Why,” he stopped to fathom what would make you think any of this, “Why would someone hurt you? Who made you act like this, because I swear I will-“ “Hyun, please stay quiet, so I can explain”

He stayed quiet and led you to the couch so that you could both sit down

“It-it’s my significant other. When they hit the bottle, they, well, they hit me. I just flinch now whenever it’s similar to that. Not-not saying that you’re like them-“ “No no, I know what you mean. I swear that I won’t treat you like that ever. Could you maybe tell me who they are, because I’ll fight them outside the Wendy’s”

(I’m sorry, I know it’s meant to be serious, but my mind went no. Wendy’s is a fast food chain that’s established in around thirty countries)

Laughing slightly, you pointedly told him no and said they were in jail anyways

After your conversation, you noticed Zen was being quiet and you knew something was up

Rather than push it, you just sat with him and continued to watch your shitty soaps

“Hey, ah, MC?” “Yeah?” “Would you maybe like to go out with me? I just, well, I realized that I thought you deserved far better than what your significant other is giving you, and I’d like to try to help. This kind of helped me realized how much I’d like to date you. I swear that I’ll take on any repercussions that they make”

Again, two parts of you were weighing your options

You may’ve just gotten out of a bad relationship, if you went with this, and it seemed like a pretty okay idea

“That sounds good, uh, yeah, yes, Zen. However, it might take me a bit to be fully okay with everything”

This boy looked sO HAPPY

“Really? I mean, yes, of course. No worries if you need time”

You both ended up crashing on the couch that night, with the dramatic shows still looping in the background

After you had been dating for a few months, you noticed that Zen hadn’t been drinking any alcohol whatsoever

You just smiled, content with the new life you were living

Seven: (Route spoilers right off the bat. I’m sorry! Based on what actually happens in the route, this’ll probably seem ooc, but I’m trying my best!)

After Seven’s acclaimed twin had left, you were pretty shaken up by the ordeal

Seven was acting really distant as well, and that wasn’t helping

Since he acted much differently on the messenger, you were sure it was your fault he was acting so cold

Trying to do something that could lighten his mood, you made some lunchIt may not be a bag of chips and a can of soda, but you figured this would be better

You walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder since he had his headphones on

He turned around far too quickly while yanking one half of his headphones to the side

“MC! Don’t bug me, you have no reason to, so just stop!”Around after he said your name, you dropped the plate at the slight outburst and he didn’t realize it until he stopped

“S-sorry, S-sev-seven!” you spoke hurriedly with a heavy stutter while you were getting on your knees to clean up the food and plate shards, “I-I didn’t mean t-to make you mad-d. I’ll, I’ll get this picked up as soon as possible”

You were surprised when he silently got off his chair to help but finished cleaning up what you could with shaking hands

Going to get a trashcan, you heard him mumbling “stupid” and “an idiot” and thought the worst then subconsciously prepared to get yelled at while dragging it to where the plate was dropped

Seven, on the other hand, was trying to figure out why he was clouded enough to not realize that you had been abused earlier

Granted, you didn’t talk much about it through any messaging service or social media and didn’t join any support groups or the like, but he still should’ve known to avoid all this

“Seven? I, I know you’re angr-“ “MC, it’s alright. I didn’t mean to make you panic; I didn’t realize what had happened for a few seconds. I’m an idiot for shouting when you were just bringing me food. Even stupider for having you pick up most of it”

He smiled sadly for just a second before bending over to get all of ceramic and food mess into the bag while you were silently standing, stunned

“MC? Is everything alright?” You nodded as if you were shaking something off “Yeah, yeah, I just thought you were going to slap me or something. I mean, I made a huge mess and you were already pissed at me and I was getting in the way and-“ “MC. I would never, ever slap you, okay? You’re never in the way, alright? I’m trying to keep all of this together right now, and I shouldn’t have snapped when you were trying to take care of me”

You were confused because you were certain that he was only going to start yelling in a few seconds

“But you were calling me stupid and an idiot when I went to get the bin?” “No! Nononono, MC, I was calling myself that, because I hadn’t put it together until then and I make you panic” “Put what? Oh, uh, yeah” “Yeah, I won’t ask you anything about it unless you’d like to tell me, but I understand. Personal experiences are shitty”

Seven offered another slight smile before going to speak again

“I’ll try my absolute hardest to not do something like that again, I swear to God. Nobody deserves to go through that, and especially not you. I’m going to drop whatever stone cold bitch façade I was using to tell you this right now, I care about you a lot, MC. Like a whole fuck ton, and I was pushing you away, because I’m really, very dangerous. I know that I keep saying that, but with the people I’m working with, I can’t have someone that I care about. However, I promise you that once everything is sorted out, I’ll be able to act better for you”

Once again, you were silently stunned at the apology and confession he just gave

You moved to hug him and he did just that, keeping you as tightly as he could for a few seconds

“Thank-thank you, Seven” “Absolutely”

Jumin: (Also one filled with route spoilers, sorry)

While you were staying at his apartment, he noticed that you were frequently texting someone and you always seemed to be wincing whenever it sent

As a matter of fact, he saw you wincing a lot whenever you bumped into something or got up

Jumin didn’t want to push it, but when he kissed you in front of the Chois and you tried to push him away as fast as possible, he decided to ask once they left

“MC, I am so deeply sorry for doing that. I pushed myself onto you, and it is completely unforgivable. Even though I want to keep you safe here, you can most definitely leave if you wish. I can’t believe I would do that to you, but I don’t have a good grasp on reading your emotions and I sincerely apologize for my actions” “No, it’s alri-“ “MC. What I did was horribly wrong. Don’t feel bad for leaving whatsoever” “Jumin, listen for a second. My reaction made it seem like I was disgusted, but don’t get the wrong idea. I’m sure this is confusing, so just give a little bit to explain”

He looked really confused but just nodded and gestured to the living room so that you could speak sitting down

“Jumin, I’m going to straight up tell you that I didn’t mind that you kissed me. It was how. I’m currently in a relationship-no, don’t freak out over making me “unfaithful” or anything-that’s quite abusive. My partner constantly forces me to do things with them. They’re who I’m texting, because they’re angry that I haven’t seen them in the past week. They’re also the reason I’ve got bruises on my sides. It scared me a bit when you did that randomly, but I don’t want you to think that I want leave right now, especially when it’s to keep me not dead”

Jumin nodded in response, but he didn’t look confused anymore; he looked both downcast and angry

“I can’t believe someone would do that to you, MC. Please tell me you’ll get away from them soon. I can’t stand to think of you getting hurt that way and forced to do things like that for them. If you need me to help with contacting someone or lawyers, I assure you I’ll find the best internationally for you. If you’d like to continue whatever we’re doing right now, I swear that I’ll always ask before I do anything and make sure it’s alright”

At the moment, you didn’t realize you were crying silently, but it wasn’t out of sadness, no, it was joyful

“Thank you, Jumin. That’s more than enough. Could you help me write a script of sorts for when I call them to dump them?” “Most definitely, MC. Anything I may do to help” “And Jumin?” “Yes?” “I’d quite like to continue what we’re doing”

He looked slightly surprised at what you said and eager to help you draft your phone call

After nearly an hour of deleting and rewriting what you were to say, you collectively decided to fuck it and just call

You were greatly anxious but Jumin’s presence was calming, especially the fact he was whispering encouragement while the phone rang

“Yes, hello…No, that won’t be necessary…I called to tell you to go fuck yourself…You heard me perfectly well…Because I’m not putting up with this anymore…Not only is it disgusting, you can’t do anything to stop the fact I’m leaving or the fact I found someone else…Yes, he’s quite nice. Would you like to speak to him?”

You swore that you had never heard someone monotonously swear that much and you were silently laughing while Jumin was using explicits every other word in the Business Guy voice

He hung up after you gave a “Bye, bitch!” and you broke down into laughter and speaking in between it

“Thank-oh God-thank you, Jumin. You-fuck, that was hilarious-you helped me out more than I can imagine, and this is probably the hardest I’ve laughed in months. Seriously, thank you,” you decided to mimic his Business Guy voice, “Mr. Han”

This time he started laughing too and that fueled you to continue

After you both had calmed down, you were both silently looking at the other fondly

“MC?” “Yeah, Mr. Han?” “Sh-shut up” “Make me”

You stopped for a second, thinking about the invitation you just put out there

“Can I kiss you?” “Yeah, you dork”

Scratch what you said before, this was something to remember

While you were at the party, V had noticed that you had someone else with you, but assumed it was your current partner

The fact that you had someone had him crestfallen, but he reminded himself that they made you happy and that’s what matters

Oh boy

Little did he know, you were getting yelled at outside for interacting with one guest and that “cotton candy-haired asshole” too much

That is, until a security guard came up to him mid-conversation and informed him of two people outside

He decided that he wouldn’t be told if they couldn’t take care of it, so he followed them out to see you trying to get absorbed by the outside of the building and someone yelling at you

“Excuse me? Why are you harassing, MC, the coordinator of this event?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know, you blue-haired fuck” “Yes, I quite would like to know if you could stop being a jackass”

No matter the fact that this was serious and you weren’t a six-year-old, you snickered quietly at the fact he swore

“Actually, you’re not worth my time. MC, could you explain please?” “Oh, uh,” you glanced at your partner and smirked just a bit, realizing you finally had witnesses, “Jihyun, this is, this is my abuser. They were trying to act possessive by shouting at me out here. Actually, they were telling me that I can’t talk to you or take care of my job”

V had already blanked at the word abuser, now fueled with hatred but keeping the calm appearance

“They, they’re your what? Never mind, I already heard it. MC, I’m getting you out of that arrangement as soon as possible”

He simply nodded to the guard that had brought him to the scene then offered his arm to you so that he could take you back inside

While you were walking back, realization of what you had done was settling in and you started to visibly shake

“MC? Is everything alright? Never mind, another stupid question. Hold on for just a second”

He had you sit at a table that was near the entrance where the least people were and got you a glass of water from a server walking by

“What you did was really brave, alright? You were able to do in a couple of seconds what I couldn’t throughout an entire relationship and then some. I promise that I’ll keep you protected from them,and they will never be allowed to come into contact with you again, okay? I swear that on my life”

Nodding with a shaky smile, you drank some of the water and thought everything over again

“Thank you, really, V, thank you. For helping me end that and helping me calm down”

After you conversed about random things for a while just to calm down, he escorted you back to the main area where everyone else was

Seven walked up to the two of you with a grin on his face

“What were you two up to? Screwing in the bathroom?”

You glanced over to see a red-faced Jihyun and you could’ve swore you heard him mumble “I wish” to which your face also heated up

“L-Luciel!” “That’s my name! Plus, I heard what you just said, V!” “No, you didn’t” “Keep lying to yourself!”

Seven left with a cheeky wink and the both of you blushing wildly like awkward teenagers

Hmm, not a bad idea, though, Seven

You said that aloud

“Yeah, not bad at all, Luciel”

You ended up getting winked at again with your face feeling hotter than before

Saeran:

You came over to hang out with Seven at the bunker while Saeran was staying there

Turns out, Seven got assigned some new project and had to start it right away, but you didn’t feel like going back to your apartment

“Hey, Saeran?” “What do you want now?” “Bitch, I walked through the door and I haven’t even spoken to you today” “…Fair point. Continue”

“Since your brother’s working, do you wanna do something?” “Like?” “Watching shitty movies with ice cream?”

Ice cream was the way to Saeran’s heart so he agreed upon the mention of it

You were at least 87% sure he wouldn’t have agreed if there wasn’t ice cream involved

Going to the kitchen, you noticed Seven brought his equipment out into the living room

You were kind of confused, considering he’d probably want to be somewhere with no distractions

Saeran, on the other hand, glared at him

You were going to the freezer get a gallon out while you heard the brothers bickering

“What’re you two talking about?”

Seven flatly said “You” while Saeran hurriedly said “Nothing!”

The red-head earned another glare when he gave a thumbs up to you

You just shook your head with a smirk while getting a scoop from a drawer along with two bowls

“Seven? You want any?” “Only if I’m allowed to put chips on it”

Half-laughing and half-sighing with a smile, you got another bowl while Saeran walked into the kitchen after telling his brother to “just fuck off already”

You were getting the bowls filled when Seven started yelling out and swearing at his laptop

The scoop clattered to the floor when you had jumped at the sudden outburst

Saeran looked bored by it, but when he saw how panicked you looked, you couldn’t quite place what emotion he was displaying

“Uh, you alright there?” “What? Oh, uh, yeah, yeah, the yelling just sorta reminded me of something” “Are you sure you’re alright?” “To be honest, no, but can I tell you later?”

He nodded and bent down to get the scoop before rinsing it off and finishing getting everyone’s food

You brought the bowls to the couch and set Seven’s next to him cautiously while warily looking at him

Saeran made an assumption, but decided to just wait for you to explain

Seven gave a quiet thanks and you still looked slightly panicked but Saeran tried to distract you

“MC? Come sit by me” “Al-alright?” “What do you want to watch?” “Oh, whatever you pick is fine”

He shrugged and flipped through channels until deciding on some psychological thriller type movie

Once he noticed his brother put his headphones on, he decided to ask about it

“Could you explain now? I don’t think Asshat over there is listening if that’s what you’re worried about” “Yeah, I-I can; just please don’t react harshly. Right now, I’m in a relationship that I’ve kept from RFA, and Seven shouldn’t have been able to tell either. It’s fairly abusive towards me, and when your brother shouted, it reminded me of last night’s beating. I, well, I get kind of worried when I mess stuff up, so I thought he’d be mad at me even though it was only his work. But, yeah, that’s why loud noises make me react like that”

He stayed quiet for a few seconds before speaking quietly but clearly

“I will fucking kill them, MC” “Saeran! No, it’s-“ “Don’t say it’s alright; we both know it isn’t. How dare they hurt you?” “Saeran, I’ll get out of it soon. It’s just-“ “MC, as much as I would like to stay calm about this, it’s not ‘just’ anything. You shouldn’t be treated like that, and I want your abuser six feet under”

Knowing that he could very easily murder them, you tried your best to get him to stop thinking about it

Finally, he got quiet again and you were able to relax back into the couch

“MC?” “Mhm?” “Could you-I can’t believe I’m asking this-could you lay by me? I would just hug you, but I don’t want to hurt you, since you’ve got injuries” “You’re a fucking dork, you know that right?” “Just be quiet and come over here…if that’s alright” “Of course it is”

After setting your bowl to the side, you moved over to be by him

“Is this better, Saeran?” “Much” “Good, ‘cause I feel safe like this” “Really?” “Mhmm, its nice to be by someone that has a comforting presence” “MC, I literally kidnapped you” “Yeah, but okay, yes, you kidnapped me” “See?” “I can’t explain it, but I like being by you” “Me too”

You both stayed like that until the credits rolled and Seven was giving his brother another thumbs up

Once you were sure Seven wasn’t paying too much attention, you spoke again

“Thanks, Saeran, for giving me someone who I could confide” “Anytime, MC. Though the murder offer still stands” “I don’t need you winding up in prison, alright?” “Seems fair. Can we still at least trash their car?” “Oh, hell’s yeah” “Now?” “Now”

You both got up while smiling wildly and Seven just stayed focused on his work

Saeran grabbed his jacket by the door and told his brother that he was going to go slash some tires

Walking to your car, you opened his door and bowed sarcastically before going to your seat and starting up the car

Smashing those windows and scratching in words and cutting up tires made you feel the happiest you had been in a while
