The sword clatters against the floor and I stagger, feeling light-headed. Laertes is lying on the ground, eyes wide open. There's blood in his mouth. He isn't breathing.
Thy mother’s poisoned. The king, the king’s to blame.
His last breaths were a confession.
My mother, queen Gertrude, lies sprawled over the steps that lead up to the throne. Her lips are purple, her knuckles still white and tight around the cup she drank from. Beside her, my uncle Claudius still sits on my father's throne, though the crown he used to wear is no longer sitting on his treacherous head. He is limp, a permanent rictus of terror on his face. His mouth is slightly open and wine is still dripping onto his silk embroidered robes.
Thou incestuous, murderous, damned Dane!
I stabbed him. I brought the cup to his lips and forced the poisoned wine down his throat.
Follow my mother.
There’s wine spilled everywhere. Or is it blood?
I can no longer tell.
My tongue feels heavy and bloated in my mouth. I taste iron. This must be the poison’s work. Laertes said I barely had half an hour left.
I don't realise I'm falling until a pair of arms catch me before I hit the ground. I try to move my legs, but they're not responding.
A familiar face comes into view, and my racing heart settles.
‘Horatio,’ I say, my voice barely above a whisper. ‘I die, Horatio. And you live.’
‘That can be easily solved.’ I watch him reach for the wine.
With the last of the strength left in me, I smack the jug off his hand. It shatters against the floor.
‘If you ever did love me, Horatio, you must live,’ I urge him, struggling to breathe. My throat feels like it's flooded and I cough. Something warm slides down my chin and Horatio’s freckled face contorts in agony. He's weeping. ‘You must–you must tell my story.’
I hear water running in the distance. It's a river. Birds are singing, accompanied by a mellow voice.
Can it be?
Can it really be her?
Horatio sobs. I can feel him holding me close and calling for a physician, but I know it's too late. I am slipping away.
‘Tell prince Fortinbras he has my voice,’ I mumble, coughing up more blood. The singing voice grows louder.
Ophelia.
‘Hamlette,’ I hear Horatio call, but he feels miles away. His voice is muffled and I am underwater.
I feel the sun on my skin. A flash of bright red hair, a pale hand reaching out to grab mine. Ophelia is smiling as I resurface.
The rest is silence.

My second art piece for the @strangerthingsreversebigbangThis one was paired with @just-my-latest-hyperfixation and @betty-boom from Ao3. God damn I love a good Jester/King, but you guys are going to be amazed by where these stories went from these two authors.

OK, but hear me out
Say Ride the Cyclone were to be adapted into a film; imagine how much fun it would be to see it animated.
Because for the main plot, like the intro song and the mostly dialogue scenes in limbo, you could easily do a stylistic, but still grounded in realism style that a lot of modern animated projects are doing right now (think Arcane or Into the Spider Verse). But once each of the kids go into their respective songs/fantasies for what their life could have been? What if those were done in completely different styles?? Imagine the additional, visual storytelling that would tell about who they are as characters?
Like say, for Ocean's number, WTWN, everything became more simplified, and the characters (especially Ocean herself) turned into a more rounded, chibi-like style to enhance just how cutesy and likeable she's trying to portray herself throughout that number.
Or for Noel's Lament, everything goes black and white, and the characters become even more 2D stylized, and the film scales down to a smaller millimeter frame, more reminiscent of cartoons from the early 20's, when animation was just starting out, to enhance his idealization of "the olden days" (as Ocean puts it).
Mischa's song, This Song is Awesome could be animated with a more choppy frame rate, and the character designs turn a little more jagged around the edges, kind of like animated music videos (I'm thinking a Gorillaz band vibe). But as he transitions into singing about Talia, the colors start to bleed out over their lineart, and become more paint-like and Talia herself moves like a rotoscoped character (think Loving, Vincent that came out a few years ago) to enhance the sense that she's somewhere between a real person and a fantasy Mischa's built in his mind.
Ricky's song would, of course, be stylized after those sci-fi cartoons from the 90's, like X-Men or Captain Planet.
For the Ballad of Jane Doe, I would love to see something like what Wolfwalkers did back in 2020, where most of the characters (in this case, the other kids) are for the most part, animated like traditional, 2D characters with very clean lines and neat movements, whereas Jane herself stands out for having messier, sketchy line art, and looks more and more unfinished in her animation as the song goes on, because she can feel more and more of her own identity being lost.
Constance's Sugar Cloud I could see done in the classic 2D Disney style (i.e., the Renaissance era of Disney, like the Lion King or Little Mermaid days) because not only is it really smooth and colorful and just all around nice to look at, but it reminds the average moviegoer of their childhood growing up with those movies (among others, obviously), which ties in nicely with Constance's preceding monologue about remembering her own life, and the good that came with the bad.
I'm even tempted to envision the first half of the finale song in a different style, when the stage production would show a quick projection of Jane/Penny's life after she returned to the world of the living. Imagine watching this animated film, and for that segment alone, it becomes that really hyper-realistic, almost uncanny valley CGI animation style, to show that she really has joined the world of the living, i.e. our world, among us, the living breathing movie goers watching this, and watching the other kids still in limbo fade back to that main art style for the final number.
I don't know; it just feels like something that would be so engaging to see from an already compelling storyline and characters. Especially with more experimental animation projects on the rise right now

25 for the Spotify thing? 👀❤️
HYPE HYPE HYPE. Good Morning Lovely. #25 on my spotify wrapped is If You Can't Hang by Sleeping With Sirens. Enjoy Steve being a confused L-7 Weenie.
----
Met a girl at seventeen, thought she meant the world to me. So, I gave her everything. She turned out to be a cheat…
----
Steve doesn't really do relationships. He'd tried that. Once. In high school.
Nancy Wheeler.
But apparently Steve was bullshit, bullshit, bullshit and replaceable.
So? No relationships.
He had been fine on his own. He went to school, crawled his way to graduating and then he worked. He worked and worked and he met a girl. Thought maybe he could--maybe they could--but, Robin was gay and Steve was Steve.
It had been a few years since Robin had graduated, the year after Steve had and now Steve wasn't alone.
He had Robin. Robin, who loved him even though he was shitty in high school. Robin, who didn't judge him for being scared of--no. He wasn't scared of love. He just didn't believe in it. He had Robin and that was all the love that he needed.
They moved to Chicago. Just Steve and Robin and their shitty two bedroom apartment. Things were good for a while.
But now Robin had Chrissy. Cause Robin was normal, and Robin believed in love.
Steve was happy for them. Really he was.
But Robin had Chrissy and Chrissy had a best friend too. Chrissy had Eddie.
Steve did not like Eddie.
Eddie was loud and brash and impulsive and--
And and and.
----
"Stevie!" Eddie calls from the other side of the apartment door. Steve sighs. Robin was out with Chrissy and somehow Eddie had found his way to the apartment, again.
He pulls the door open, one hand perched on his hip. "Eddie." He deadpans, and Eddie smiles. Toothy and wide. His smile was too big for his stupid pretty face--not, no. Not pretty, because Steve did not like Eddie. It's not the Steve liking guys thing, that's the issue. Steve had figured that shit out about himself a long time ago. He just didn't like Eddie.
Eddie keeps on smiling. Even though Steve treats him like absolute trash, anytime he comes over. Eddie just won't quit. It's like he needs them to be friends. So their best friends are girlfriends? It doesn't mean that Steve and Eddie have to like each other.
"The girls are out, and Chrissy and I's house is boring when it's just me. I thought we could have a beer or smoke or--something?" Eddie asks, pulling his stupid pretty hair in front of his stupid pretty face.
"So--our friends are out on a date and you decided to crash my apartment because your bored?" Steve scoffs. "Don't you have any other friends?"
Something crosses Eddie's face. He looks sad, but only for a moment, before he shakes his head, smirking at Steve. "Don't you?"
Steve would like to say that he slammed the door in Eddie Munson stupid, pretty, face. But he didn't and now they were a few beers and a joint in and Eddie was staring.
"Ed, what? Why are you looking at me like that?" Steve smacks his shoulder and Eddie just takes a drag from his joint, breathing the smoke out right in Steve's face, before cocking his head.
"Looking at you like what, Stevie?"
Steve swings his hand through the air, trying to get the smoke to disperse. Asshole. He huffs, "Looking at me like, you fucking know me."
Eddie smirks, handing the joint over, and Steve takes it, breathes in the smoke. He's closes his eyes, everything is fine. Fine and chill and cool and fine.
When he opens them again, Eddie's eyes are staring right into him. This is why Steve can't fucking stand Eddie Munson.
Eddie is still smirking, big brown eyes sparkling with mirth, when he says, "Don't I?"
Steve tears his own eyes away, stubbing out the joint. "No. You don't. And even if you did, I--I'm not--I'm bullshit." He whispers, and his voice may have cracked and this isn't right. This isn't supposed to happen.
Eddie is soft when he reaches out, running his fingers over the back of Steve's hand. "I don't think so."
Steve should probably pull his hand away. He should, but he doesn't want to.
He sighs, staring at Eddie's hand over his own. "It's you might not, but--it's a long story." He flicks his eyes up. Eddie is still fucking look at him. Into his stupid soul.
"Why don't you tell me about it?" Eddie asks, eyes sparkling. God Steve hates…He doesn't hate Eddie Munson, does he?
"Tell you about what?"
"Everything. Tell me about your life, Steve Harrington. I've got time."
Turns out Steve does do relationships. Well, he does relationship. Turns out, he truly doesn't like Eddie Munson. He loves him.

Met a boy at twenty-three, knew he meant the world to me. So, I gave him everything and he did the same for me. Imagine that.

Tell me our story: are we impetuous, are we kind to each other, do we surrender to what the mind cannot think past? Where is the evidence I will learn to be good at loving?
