Petition to let Spider-Man unapologetically mooch of the billionaires he seems to attract for reasons that are usually poorly explained
I’m fucking tired of people complaining that Tom holland’s Spider-Man isn’t as good because he keeps running to Tony Stark
I’m tired of both tv shows and fanfics making him too stubborn to accept any type of financial support from Harry
Are we still in this economy upholding the capitalistic and corrupted values that we need to make our own way and not accept hand outs
Peter magically attracts billionaires like flies to honey and we’re not cheering him on for taking their money?
Let 👏 Peter 👏 Parker 👏 take 👏 money 👏 form 👏 billionaires 👏

Hi! Not naming any names because what's the point but:
1. Please at least ask artists before sticking their (FREELY SHARED?) work into your own fics or social media
2. I understand that "Lots of people do it", and "Eh the artist doesn't know its on the internet who cares" is not something I can actively do anything about
3. BUT. Understand that this makes me feel like you, and the fandom at large views artists (includes all creators tbh) as: content machines, not people with feelings, and generally disposable
4. In light of WGA and SAG striking because of literally this attitude, understand that all you're doing is ensuring most fandom artists/writers/giffers go behind walled off gardens. It happened in the LJ days and it can happen again.
5. This includes feeding ai work for "fic endings", and "art in this style". People will just stop posting eventually. I remember the internet before artists shared anything, and maybe you will too, if things go on like this.
TL;DR don't be a dick, fandom is supposed to be a fun space where we make up stuff and talk to other people about it.
Don't make it so people walk away and there isn't anybody to talk to anymore.

imma be completely honest, i just checked out the watchertv website and i can absolutely see why they were so excited for it - without context, it looks so cool and i would be SO proud of them cos that's huge you know? and i can absolutely see how this has been something they've been aiming for (i remember both ryan & shane talking about how it's been their dream to create high-quality, tv-level productions at various points in time).
but as many have said, a huge issue was perhaps in the execution. assuming this was a set-in-stone end goal for them, much could still have been done to transition the audience gradually to this new platform. ofc, i acknowledge that hindsight is 20/20 but, well. i have to admit that some aspects of how this was executed were indeed quite tone-deaf.
THAT BEING SAID, while i absolutely understand that this tone-deafness could have been extremely hurtful, using this situation as an opportunity to be racist, to attack steven's religion, or to harrass their partners on their socials is completely out of line. this whole fiasco has revealed a startling & upsetting amount of toxicity that is colouring the entire fandom in a really bad light.
also, while i understand that steven being the sole CEO position does make him more responsible over such business decisions, i truly do not think that the "steven is the only villian, he's threatening R&S with a gun" narrative is warranted. as mentioned above, R&S have both expressed their dreams of making high-quality productions (nothing wrong with that btw) and they're also both still the co-founders & main faces of the platform. there's a much higher likelihood that they were both on board with this, and pinning all the blame on steven like this to protect and coddle your 'faves' is frankly a little embarrassing.

i will say with my whole chest that i hate what is happening with music marketing right now. i hate that a song needs to be a tiktok trend. i hate that one album is being released in 23 ways to trick people into buying multiple albums because there are different covers and different photos inside. i hate that one album is being rereleased multiple times as deluxe and then the super deluxe and then super secret version with one additional song just to make the numbers!!!!!! i hate that people without vinyl players buy multiple vinyls of the same album just to own them and collect them. i know no one is making anyone buy multiple versions of the same fucking album by putting a gun to their head BUT COME ONNNNN its all about the money and people and just giving into that!!!!!!!!

When building a spear, what matters: you, building or the spear?
At the recent FSNNA conference (were you there? Did we meet? If you’ve been there, the panel recordings and the discussion space is still available for a week.), Katherine Crighton, Dr. Naomi Jacobs and Shivhan Szabo introduced an online game where you can create new fanworks for your blorbo for the newest fannish sensation: Blow the Man Down. The catch is, this fannish sensation is not a TV show. The story is reverse engineered through the fanworks created for it, but in a sense, it doesn’t exist. Your blorbo also doesn’t exist. My blorbo is real cool, though, their name is Bogdán.
When it comes to fannish creation, there are some key theories to reference. Participatory culture is one, we also talk about gift economy, affective labor; can they possibly explain why we are able to act fannishly when there isn’t even a canon to be fans of? Are we experiencing real feelings for a fake blorbo because we participated in their creation, committing to this silly man? Or is it because of the nature of the work, we used fannish practices to create them, which is inherently affective? Or is it, as the presentation already points out, due to the spear theory: we build our blorbo by piercing many blorbos through and that creates our type? I dare you; play the game and let us discuss our experiences. Or if you’ve ever gonched, what did you think of it?
