Welcome to Bagginshield Week 2024! DATES & PROMPTS

First things first, sorry for the slight delay!

All of the elements of this event (dates, extra posting days, prompts) have been voted for by participant or people interested in it, with the sole exception of one of the prompts for Day 7, and the specific dates of the week (the vote fell on the side of "second half of June").

The event consists of seven regular posting days, for which there are be two distinct but easily relatable prompts per day, and two sets of alternate prompts with five prompts each (one is for regular prompts and the other is for "whump" tropes). On top of that there will be two extra days for you to post your works right at the end of the week (you can post the very first chapter of your work on either day and then finish it some other time, no problem!). You can also mix and otherwise use prompts however way you want: maybe you want to go about it the traditional way and pick one prompt for each day, or close to it and only switch one of them for an alternate; or you can take a Day 5 prompt, a regular alternate, and cap it off with a whump trope and post that for Day 1. Pick your poison!

Oc gradually and carefully in Dwarf Runes writing out little painted cards onto small saucers for the dinner after Thorin’s coronation as their chosen way they could help.

Cue Balin coming to check on them making sure they have eaten or will do so after a few hours of work straight. His smile spreading the closer he got seeing oc with lip held between their teeth in focus. When the calligraphy brush was settled down back into the resting bowl and they stretched their hands he spoke up, “I came to ensure you do not forget to eat.”

“Oh goody,” oc said and stretched their arms up over their heads smiling at their newly arrived friend. “I could use some fuel for the final leg of the task.”

“May I?” He asked and oc nodded in his steps closer to peer on over the saucer Bilbo had come over to take to join the others to dry in the other room. The runes on the saucer had his lips part particularly at the date that placed the coronation on. “Um, oc, Lass, might I see the reference sheet you were given?”

“Oh yes,” they said and handed the card to him that was written exactly how oc had copied it meaning the error was not on their part but the one who wrote it. “Dis was very specific on runes for when Thorin’s coronation was.”

“Thorin the senior perhaps,” he said to himself and widened his smile at oc. “Lass, the date is mistaken.”

“No I triple checked the calendar, that is the proper day of the week and number. I would not go and write the wrong day down.” Oc says with a tired chuckle.

“No, merely, the year places this back in the First Age.” And oc’s grin dropped off.

“That’s the date Dis gave me.” Oc repeated. “Wrote it down, that is Thorin’s coronation.”

“Yes, only, our Thorin is the second of his name.” And oc promptly covered their face to let out a groan as Bilbo stood open mouthed at the interaction he was overhearing then promptly went to move around the workstation to hug oc fondly in support. “How many have you painted?”

“I have nine left,” oc groaned lowly from behind their palms.

Instantly Balin looked to Bilbo who nodded and said, “Hit a very efficient groove twenty minutes in. The Hobbit in me is very impressed. While also holding back to have not stopped her for tea and luncheon along the way on my own preference.”

Balin said on his way to the spare room, “You have not painted nearly 600 saucers in a matter of hours.”gawking at the sheer amount of surfaces coated in drying saucers without risk of damage or hinderance to the task.

“I told you I’m very good at busy work!” Oc defended themselves and Balin draws in a breath and comes back to the station to see oc on the verge of tears.

“Reevaluating the task,” mid nod his fingers rose to tap them together that spread apart in a fanning motion to say to oc, “In part it can be a way to honor his namesake and himself.”

“How are we going to swing that?” Bilbo asked.

“We need someone good busy work,” Balin said and he brought out a spare bit of parchment and mocked up a commemorative card that could be cut and detailed to honor both Thorin’s on the big day as a way to show hint to lineage to deepen the meaning of the runes on the gift saucers all the more. “We will eat, I will handle the choice of material, cut of the cards and Bilbo can help to make these cards, I recall those floral borders you are adept at?”

Bilbo nodded, “Of course, absolutely I will help.” And helped oc up in saying, “First, food.”

On the very day of the coronation oc is seated beside the Elf King to help be middle man between the two rulers. Catching his subtle adjustments of the card and saucer propped up with a bow to mark it as a gift for attending as a keepsake. Oc lowly stated, “I had nine left when I was told he’s the second.”

Awkwardly across his lips a smile spread on the Elf King’s face and he hummed in return to oc’s first taste of their wine. “Doriath erupted in chaos to a similar situation when I was a child. The card is a smooth recovery.”

“Thank you,” oc lowly replied gratefully to the understanding Elf King who chuckled to himself at the memories it stirred up in him.

to me part of the appeal of thorin His Royal Autist oakenshield is that I think it would be funny if the dwarves don't act "properly" according to hobbit mannerism and thorin especially is to bilbos eyes like this

and bilbos like woah dwarves sure are different than hobbits 😅 and then he gets used to the dwarves and learns more about their mannerisms and finds out that to dwarven standards thorin is still like this

Bagginshield Week 2024: Basic Schedule and Prompt Poll

As promised, here is the prompt poll for the 2024 event! But first, a word on the basic schedule.

At first, I was planning to have the entire schedule ready to post, but as it is, a tie breaker is needed for the final date of the event week, since two options got the same amount of votes. Because of that, in the third section of the poll there will be a tie breaker question on the matter.

As his forehead touches her, she couldn't resist the urge, the itch that crept its way through her veins as she lifted her hand, placing it upon his beard feeling the soft scratch upon the palm of her hand - was to show such reluctance a weakness? no, for it was in her mind wise to go into battle with fear, it was the force that pushed you onwards ❝ I will do my best to keep your kin safe, unharmed . ❞ and him, she did not doubt his abilities, far from it. But she knew that whilst she took command of the skies the urge to rain fire upon those that would hurt him would too great, to drown them in the flames that she wore as her armour and wielded as her sword.

Frodo is the eldest, Belladonna & Frerin II are twin youngest :) i put a lil ref to Frerin II vs Frerin I vs Fíli since ik they all look. similar and i personally wanted a good ref for their differences :3 lil more info & body refs under the cut!!!

Bella has big ol lion paws so Thorin calls her (and Frerin sometimes) his lil Ibrizbunt. Bella’s One ends up being this diplomatic elf from mirkwood who he HATES at first cus theyre so serious and passive aggressive. They basically start off like Thorin and Bilbo do.

Frerin technically has like.. canonical hobbit feet but my hobbits have big ol paws so :)

Frodo is ftm!! he’s also built more like a hobbit than the other two but is still on the skinny side for a hobbit. he also has no freckles rip frodo :(

All of the siblings have very dwarf-like hair textures! instead of the silky smooth curls of hobbits, they each have thick, coarse, and heavy dwarven hair. Bella’s is the most :)
