If we were to write a fic, could it be a fic for an existing series or would it have to be a totally new idea?

If you mean like you have a fic series/collection on ao3 and this would be a sequel or whatnot: yes, you can do that, though it may be harder to retain anonymity. the fic you write for the bang just cannot be posted anywhere prior to the start!! so if you already have part of the sequel fic up, you couldn't use it for this.

Purpose?

More Riordanverse Parents!!! More Sally, more Natalie, more Apollo, and more Amos (and Bast)! There are so many interesting things laid out that we do not touch, but now is the time to consider being put in their situation in reality and become horrified or awestruck!

Why should you participate in this?

It's fun! It has implications, it lets you develop a character's backstory, and develop the adults, who take a backseat to their world-saving (or destroying) children!

So how does it work?

The release date for fanworks is from Sunday, the 14th of July through Saturday, the 20th of July 2024.

Three months to write, create, and draw fanworks. They can be anything, web weaving, fanfic, fanart, meta, ship manifestos (i see you posally & mariahades people), playlists, and gifsets.

Any vibes you wish to bring to the event are accepted, so long as they aren't rancid to your fellow participants! Horror? You can make it worse! Rom-com? You know what you're about. Historical AU? Sure! Smut? You know what you're about.

This is an optional event, run only by me, and should be under the #riordanverseparentsweek, and it will have a AO3 collection under the same name. I'll be checking the tag daily as the event goes on, and will make a masterlist by the time all submissions are finalized!

This is an event celebrating PJO, HoO, Kane Chronicles, and Magnus Chase parents (including the gods)

It's happening from Sunday, July 14–Saturday, July 20

Submissions can be web weaving, fanfic, fanart, meta, ship manifestos, playlists, and gifsets.

Fans are inspired to create a wide variety of new texts: blogs, podcasts, fan videos and compilations, fanfiction, fan art, cosplay, and music are just a few examples. Fans create new texts both to expand the scope of their fan objects, and to insert themselves into their fandom by displaying their mastery of fannish knowledge.

In Untitled (Wolf, Alligator, and Fish), the animals featured appear to be wearing costumes—yet it is unclear what they actually are under those costumes. Pieces of known animals and also people are clear in the figures, yet they are combined in unexpected ways that are at the same time both recognizable and unnerving. Fan created texts mix together pieces of known texts, sometimes in recognizable ways, sometimes to create something totally new, and sometimes doing both at the same time.

Fanworks do not need to consider the theme that fine-art pieces will be used to discuss; they only need to be inspired by or responding to one piece of art and anything you are a fan of. This piece makes me think of character creation in Dungeons and Dragons—players can take bits and pieces of archetypes, characters from media, and their own fantasy and wish fulfillment to create characters that are both brand new and also familiar. I’m picturing a chaotic neutral Druid/Rogue shape-shifter who is really just trying to make the people around them uncomfortable. I could submit a picture of my miniature, my character sheet, or both.

this might’ve been asked before but have you ever considered having pinch hitter sign ups? since the bang seems to be growing each year it feels like it could be something that might help in the future (but obviously i don’t know how much need there might’ve been for them in previous years). just because i’ve seen a few other bangs and reverse bangs have pinch hitters just in case someone has to drop out later on

I've considered it! I believe last year I just had artists let me know if they were willing to be pinch-hitters in the case of artist dropouts. I'm not sure having pinch-hitters for authors would be a good idea. I think I'll probably do the same thing this year, having artists indicate during claims if they were willing to be pinch-hitters should we need them! Maybe in the future I'll have it be a separate sign-up. :>
