another ineffable husbands coded song i found to make y'all cry
While I was up to my usual shenanigans on tumblr, a friend suggested the song Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton for miscellaneous purposes. And I'm in the brainrot stage so guess who it reminded me of. Guess, maggots, who could it possibly remind you of? Not a certain demon who used to live in heaven until he fell from grace, but refused to return? Surely not him? Judge for yourselves, the lyrics are below the Spotify link. Hm.
TEARS IN HEAVEN - ERIC CLAPTON
Would you know my name?
If I saw you in heaven
Would it be the same?
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong
And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
Would you hold my hand?
If I saw you in heaven
Would you help me stand?
If I saw you in heaven
I'll find my way
Through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven
Time can bring you down
Time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart
Have you begging please
Begging please
Beyond the door
There's peace, I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in heaven
Would you know my name?
If I saw you in heaven
Would you be the same?
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong
And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven
Season 2 Episode 6, anyone?

You like Doctor Who AND Black Sails???? Absolutely chef kiss, cannot believe we share a brain
yeah, I did for a hot second have a separate blog for Black Sails because I actually made this one to be specifically not fandom-related (3 years on and... well.....) so I'm slowly bringing my black sails posting over here instead, fuckit!
thing about Black Sails for me is that on the whole I find it such a perfectly constructed bit of storytelling, with critique that has already been formulated better by other people, that I never know quite what to say about it that hasn't been said, youknow?
it's the show that I've watched that has felt the most like reading a book, with every season leading into one another and the themes introduced in s1 wrapping up in s4, and every piece interacting with one another, and you have to trust that the questions and thematic concepts raised at the beginning have real weight and will go places, which in this day and age of TV is a big ask, because most of the time a TV show has to work one season at a time/doesn't plan that far ahead, lest it get cancelled and/or stretches into depressing perpetuity
(or it's Doctor Who of course, which is just its own monster/mythology at this point, moreso than perhaps any other show, I'd say including Star Trek perhaps...)
but yeah, Black Sails. that's a journey that really matters, you get to the end and you've been holding your breath since probably s2, and you're realising that this is something that TV can do -- I think other shows that have manage the closest (for me) have been miniseries like Chernobyl or Pride & Prejudice and the like, because they've had that clear knowledge that this is the episodes they have, this is where it starts and ends, these are the ways everything talks with one another (Chernobyl and Black Sails especially have in common that the ending makes one want to go back to the beginning, because it's a realisation of OH THIS IS WHAT YOU'VE BEEN SAYING FROM DAY ONE!), but I've not seen it as strongly or as well-constructed (or... finished for that matter) in anything that had multiple seasons like this
+ youknow. multiple polyamorous relationships in different structures, multiple ways of discussing connection and love none of which are more important than the other for being a specific kind, multiple deconstructions of masculinity in popular mythology (pirates), banging sea battles and sword fights, plot moments that take your breath away, political commentary that makes you punch the air, and bits that have you going "OH I READ THIS BIT IN TREASURE ISLAND!!!" (but also you don't need to have read treasure island to watch it... potentially OH YEAH THIS GUY WAS A CYBORG IN TREASURE PLANET 😂)
Black Sails is kind of special. Truly one of a kind
EDIT: ALSO WANTED TO SAY HELL YEAH HIGH FIVE FOR BLACK SAILS AND DOCTOR WHO!

Well, my current Leverage hyperfixation has now manifested in the form of this fanvid... I have not made a fanvid in well over 10 years... Yikes.
Hope you enjoy! I've had the idea for a fanvid to this song stuck in my head for a couple weeks now! And, yes, it includes clips from Redemption.

I hate getting unsolicited advice from people
"hey I have these questions about MPFL reconstruction & other patella stabilizing surgeries and I know some people here have gotten them...."
"those surgeries are not recommended to treat EDS"
are we just going to ignore the miserable malalignment syndrome and other deformities affecting my patella and trochlear groove then?? are we just gonna ignore some of the primary reasons for my knee surgery?? you do not know me or my medical conditions. when I'm asking a question about these surgeries I am not asking for advice on whether or not I should get them.

Gray Shelter/Gray Currents Ep 3
This show continues to have more impact in a 20 minute episode than most series manage their entire run. It respects its audience.
This is a bitter thing to say.
Also, the last line of the episode…
Ep 4 is available but I need some time to process this first before continuing.

I was looking for tissues online
And I suddenly remembered this scene from Kotaro lives alone
Where how there's this particular part suggesting that Kotaro had to eat tissues for sometime, and which is why he still buys high quality expensive nutrients tissues
And then the manga artist guy tells him that he no longer needs to buy those tissues anymore and then his realisation
And my heart just kinda you know? Felt a tinge remembering that.
It's such a minute thing, but it's not.

I’ve discovered something new and potentially helpful (and kind of amusing, if nothing else) about the early-mid game of Rune Factory 4 - if your human companions are knocked out when it hits 19:00 (which is when they will leave unless you have LV 7 affinity or higher), then even after they’re healed or you move to a new location, they still won’t leave. It seems the game only checks to see if they should leave exactly once, at 19:00, and instead of automatically waking up to leave or just leaving immediately once they’re back up, if they happen to be down when the check happens, then they’ll stay with you however long you want.
If you plan things right you can bypass them leaving and spend several extra hours training/exploring with whoever you want, which is really helpful!

We're cutting the cord on Netfilx at the end of this month, so I'm trying to focus on original series and movies from the platform. I've worked my way through Midnight Mass, after putting it off for years, and guys.
If you only use Netflix for one month, this is a must-see series.
Like many Flanagan projects, it will enrage you, tire you, make you ball like a baby. Both feel beaten down and inspired, and the meditations on grief, of very human flaws, thematic elements mirroring each other and coming together so neatly by the end. This is the level of cathartic sorrow that I could only dream of touching (and god help any readers if I figure it out), but it's still so damn hopeful. You never leave a Flanagan series feeling that all is lost ('Usher' may beg to differ, but we shall see, it's up next). There is always hope, a sense of comfort, a sense of reassurance even through all the tears. Netflix has seriously fucked up, letting this guy go.
I wish Mike Flanagan and his recurring actors the absolute best, because that's exactly what they are.
