It's a metaphor!
What's a meta for?
Nothin! What's a meta for you!
*wheezes for six minutes straight without taking a breath*
___
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. In this Bible story, Jesus describes Himself as a vine (like a grapevine), and His disciples as its branches. Branches can only bear fruit while connected to the main vine. If their connection is severed or tainted, they wither and die, and then they're pruned, suitable only for being tossed in a fire. Jesus is warning His disciples that their mission's fruitfulness depends on their continued, dedicated, healthy connection with Him and His Father. 2. In this cartoon, after hearing Jesus's metaphor, Peter declares that he and the other apostles (the "branches" in Jesus's metaphor) will "stick" with the vine. A "stick" is a long, thin piece of wood (like a branch), but "stick" can also mean "stay connected to." This is an inferior pun, because while the word "stick" has the two above meanings, only one of those meanings makes grammatical sense in Peter's comment (the latter). 3. Jesus replies that the vine (Him, in the metaphor) will be "rooting" for them. "Rooting" can either mean "laying down roots" (as in a tree growing its roots into the ground), or "cheering on" (like an audience cheering for a sports team). This is a superior pun to Peter's, because both meanings make grammatical sense in Jesus's comment. His declaration can be taken to mean either (1) that, as the vine, He'll provide the apostles with roots to nourish their fruitfulness, or (2) that, as their teacher, friend, and Lord, He'll be cheering them on and supporting them in their mission.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is another "Tomics Resurrection," where I have plucked the desiccated husk of an old cartoon from the withered branch of the past, and gorged it with so many steroids and hormones that it blasphemes nature but looks way more colorful! Also, it's been slightly reworded to flow better while maintaining the meaning of the passage; the disciples have been moved inside to the Last Supper, since this reading takes place either during or just after; and the image of the grapevine is in the second panel now, including a lush branch and a withered branch to illustrate what Jesus is saying. Tell me, how does it compare?

TryannoMax, Issue 25, October 1977
Cocytus Comics Group, Story by Barry McDermit, lines by Midge Joulet & Dale Ethree, Colors and Letters by H. Haddaway.
Issue #25. It's a quiet day so the Core team gets some R&R. TryannoMax hunts down Dr. Underfang for a long-overdue confrontation, DeinoSteve and PteroDarla finally have that date, and Wally Manmoth visits home. So when Ape-Tomic Pyle returns from the grave to exact his revenge, only TriceraBruce remains to stand in his way. One wounded dinoid against a living nuclear ape-pocalypse, with the populace of Wisconsin in the balance.
Running for an astounding 80 issues, TyrannoMax was the headline comic from Cocytus in the 1970s, and was the primary motivator behind Buzby-Spurlock buying out Cocytus in '83.
While the comic series is considered the root of the empire that would create the animated series and live action movie, the concept was first introduced in short story "Humanity, My Young Cousin" in the pulp-sci-fi magazine Stunning True-Life Tales of Science Fiction, a few years earlier.
May be posting interior pages soon.
Full details under the fold.

TyrannoMax is my AI dinosaur test kitchen, where I see how ideas work out before trying them on more serious projects.
Here, I've used Dall-E 3 through Bing and Midjourney to create comic assets, which I then de-color and rework into inks in a similar fashion to my AI-comic reworkings like Robots Ruined the Internet and Let's Gib About Ib, or any of my other fake comic covers. TriceraBruce and Ape-Tomic Pyle were generated with Dall-E 3, and the background was made in Midjourney.
This makes the basic inks, from there I correct anatomical problems, cleanup AI wonk, and generally re-ink where things are needed.
Once I have the "inks" its then a matter of doing the coloring and graphic design work the old fashioned way. I used my recreation of the 1981 DC comics palette for my colors, used post-processing to get the printed look, and there you go.
My prompt format for the characters is:
A -anthro wearing , long tail (if a dinosaur) , comic panel by 1968, in the style of 1960s Marvel comics
Because all weights are averaged a bit, to get a 1970s comic look, you have to prompt for late 60s, ortherwise it looks late 80s.
Background prompt was:
a distant city, a rocket launches from its center, flying toward the sky, comic illustration by jack kirby, inked lines, flat color, blue sky, green grass, orange rocket, from 1968

EXPLORERS FACT:
COVER VARIATIONS (scroll for images)
As well as the covers we're used to coming in slight colour variations (eg. My OWM is blue and my OBIB has blue chrome) there are more dramatic variations.
Many of these are from translations including German and French. Some are pictured below.
As well as variants on the covers there are variants in titles. Some earlier English versions of On Witch Mountain pictured a coloured version of the illustration by Tomislav Tomic. The title was also ominously "The Forbidden Expedition".
Translations from the French and German versions also give us different titles. For example, On Black Ice Bridge, in the French version, translates to "The Fantom Atlas". The cover also sports a bright to mossy green depending on the release.
I admire and greatly appreciate the refreshing cover art of the German set. The title art including the insignia animals of all four base clubs as well as the striking fully coloured illustrations of the protagonists is helpful for reference.
I have a personal vendetta against the colour scheme of At Pirate Island and At Stardust City. Generally we just call them the burger book and the drug book because girl what are those colour schemes LMAO

Happy Easter! He is risen! Hallelujah!
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. Mary Magdalene makes early trips to Jesus's tomb, maybe to anoint His Body with funeral oils, or maybe just to cry. In this cartoon, she refers to these trips as her "mourning routine." The word "mourning" (grieving) sounds like "morning" (the early part of the day). This pun implies that Mary's early daily ritual (her "morning routine") is one of sorrow (hence, "mourning routine"). 2. As Mary approaches Jesus's tomb in John's version of the story, she sees that it's open and hurries to the apostles to have them inspect it. In this cartoon, however, she's too exhausted to recognize what the open tomb implies (that the dead Jesus has somehow left His tomb). She continues into the tomb to wait for Him to return, and only after several minutes does the event literally dawn on her. This particular sunrise has seen the Son rise.
