seeing the way people in the JJBA fandom treat you has made me even more critical of Fandom Culture (especially for media like anime) then i was before. the levels of toxicity i'm seeing anime fans treat you with are actually sickining

I have been into a lot of media and engaged with a lot of fandoms that have had it's issues

But jojo fandom has by far been the worst, specifically in my experience to the twitter audience that I straight up feel like, are SEEKING conflict. Like they need something to be upset about no matter what, no matter how small or how much it's just some random off handed comment about someone disliking something they like

These people don't understand the idea lf 'block and ignore' they ONLY understand 'engage and turn this into the controversy of the month' everytime

I loves jojos! I love a lot of the media and the art and the small circle I have formed

But sadly I'm a big artist who doesn't keep his mouth shut and likes to discuss opinions on things I notice or think about and that means those opinions can sometimes quickly leave my circle and people act like I picked them up out of an ocean of people to spit on their face specfically

A band you don’t like that many others do: UM idk...my music taste is all over the place and I really only know the bands i think?? oh- maybe Mother Mother, only because I have not bothered to listen to their music past Junkrat hype videos and that's probably tainted my view a little. For better or for worse.

A childhood memory that you remember vividly: during a summer in greece, idk how, but I got roped into selling watermelons off the side of the road. I couldn't have been more than 6 or 7, but I remember I would put the watermelon in a plastic bag and the farmers thought it was really funny because that's such a...united states thing...to bag 1 whole watermelon in plastic. Anyways, they paid me in cucumber slices with salt.

Least favorite animal and why: HUH LEAST. I'm not a huge fan of like reptiles? Specifically those smaller than a bread box. Too fast, too squirm. Im worried I'll crush them in my hands. (im thinking of specifically florida geckos...idk they are cute but i freak out trying to hold them).

Hot fandom take: just because something is popular and fandom-wide accepted doesn't mean it is good. and not agreeing with it/wanting to engage in it doesn't mean you or your own opinions are bad. the monopoly on accepted 1 true canon is boring.

Do you wear any jewelry, if so, what’s your favorite piece: I try an rotate my jewelry around but I'm usually wearing a few rings, a necklace and a pair of earrings. My favorites are the rings. They are my mom's old ones and I typically wear the same two every day. One is a gold key of greece and the other is a thin black bar but the sides have really small thin heart cut outs.

A movie others liked but you didn’t: HMMMMM probably the new star wars trilogy. felt unnecessary and i just didn't like it? big shruggies

Three things you love about yourself: my writing- its something that I enjoy the most in the world and something that I can claim as mine. I also think I'm pretty funny in a sillay way which is poggers. I like my openness to trying things. Think that's helped make me more well-rounded. I hope so at least.

A place you hope to visit in the future and why: HMMMMM. I want to visit Japan again. For a new place, I want to go to South America. Peru maybe??? Mexico would also be nice. So that's what I'm gearing up towards next.

An actor that gets on your nerves and why: Uh Matt Smith? No reason behind this. but I see his block head and kind of just look away.

Things you’re excited for in the nearby future? I have a lot of little house projects I finally feel like tackling which is exciting. Ive lived in my house for almost 2.5 years and still havent felt like parts of it are complete yet.

Least favorite ship in a fandom you’re in: oof I lowkey kind of hate saying things I don't like on here. bad experiences in the past when people were upset I didn't like a thing they did and got mad at me. But uhhh not the biggest fan of most rodimus ships? but I think mega/rod is my least favorite of them. sorry!

What’s the most toxic fandom you’ve been in? hahaahahahhahahah can you believe Game of Thrones wasn't the most toxic???? it was jjba. I got put on a ban list which was kind of funny. I also got kind of show-ponyed in a toxic discord server for a while which has completely ruined me in the ability to act normal on discord outside of my irl friends. that account is deleted but the ao3 is still circling around.

List three things you find beautiful about life: Friends and family- sometimes I want to kill but I really do love them so so much. I like creating things and creating things with people. I also really like my area as far as nature goes. the beach to swamp ratio sings to me.

Any dreams for the future? I want to go on a really long hike. Maybe like a 2 day one? (< says the person that has gone on a max 2 hour hike before). Also just working on my original fiction again. I miss those fellas.

How are you really feeling today? Motivated!!!! Im a little groggy still, but I've been really excited about life and betterment lately so its overcoming my sleepy brain.

Hey…so it’s been a while.

I wanted to talk about a big issue in the jjba community regarding personal headcanons. Now don’t get me wrong I love headcanons, reading them and also creating some based on the personality of the character, but some take THEIR PERSONAL headcanons way to serious and forget that they aren’t canon.

An example: I shared a narancia fan art (which I took down because of to many anatomy mistakes lol) and somebody texted me and insulted me saying how I white washed him and how I am trying to erase the small African representation that anime has. I explained to them that by no means I white washed him and even made his skin darker than it actually is, I also explained to the person that even tough I also personally see him as mixed he is canonly italian. Btw. The person itself wasn’t even black lmao. I often put my personal headcanons into my art work (which you can see in my jjba pitter patter pop redesign) but I remember that these are MY HEADCANONS.

What I want to say is have your headcanons and share them pls I love reading them <3 but pls remember that they aren’t canon and others don’t have to revolve their work around your ideas.

Shipping in JJBA

Whats up with JJBA fandom and shipping? 

I have been a jojo fan for over a year now.  And something that stood out a lot in the fandom have been the distribution into 2 sides. 

1. the homophobic dudebros making the same jojokes over and over again. 

2. the gay shipping chaos 

(i dont have anything against shipping. i, myself, have some ships)

(im not saying there arent any other types of fans, these are just the main 2 and also the most noticable)

It makes me wonder. JJBA is in no way a romance anime. Its full of bizzare, strange and well thought through fights against the enemy stand users.

Ofc we do have some canonical relatonships, like Jonathan and Erina, and others. But it was never the main focus. Even our dear Erina is just there for Jojos character development. :(

But we must notice something...take a look at the most popular ships according to the JJBA ships wiki:

Now, we know what everybody says about jojo...its gay.

But, is it really like that?

JJBA is full of stuff that could be considered part of the queer culture. Like, for example, fashion.

In the past, when society wasnt as accepting as it is now, ppl would often show their sexual orientation through clothes. 

Ofc we cant forget about the slightly fruity scenes, like the Joseph and Avdol scene, and others...

I could go on for a really long time about the gay stuff in jjba. But a lot of ppl already piled up these scenes together. (Just try looking up all gay moments in jojo and you will find a tons of results)

Its is safe to say that a lot of queer folks are interested in jojo, because they can see themeself and their culture, while also having the time of their life watching masculine men punching the crap out of each other. 

And as we all know lgbtq+ is starved for a good representation in media and something that doesnt fall into stereotypes.

I dont know about you, but i never wanted to watch some cheesy romance in between two men. It just isnt my genre. What i really want, is queer characters going on adventures that arent focused on their queerness. Not everything about them has to scream that they are gay. We are just humans like everyone else. 

Lack of good representation usually leads to ppl going “you know what? ill do it myself!” 

And thats where all the shipping starts. 

Thats exactly what happened in this fandom too.

People saw potential in two buff guys looking at each other a little bit more deeply than usually and ran with it.

Which on its own is completely fine, but jjba has been around for quite a while. Which means there is a huge number of ships. Some of them make sense and some of them…not so much.

Heres where the proshippers come in the story. (yup those 🤢)

We got from fans being starved for gay content to shipping everyone together. Minors with adults, family members, stand users and their stands…

Im not going to explain why is proshipping problematic.

All huge fandoms have toxicity and problems in them it just cannot be avoided.

Is there something we can do about it?

Well, yes.

We can explain why proshipping is problematic and try to show people that there is much more other fan made content we can have that doesnt have proships in it. (or any ships)

But i doubt that we can ever solve everything and get rid problematic people. Nothing is perfect.

Just dont let it ruin you do bizzare experience JJBA has to offer.

That "jjba facts joseph wouldn't fuck you' person is literally deranged. They put their hatred into the main tags and tag artists that draw caejose, with one artist even saying they recieved anon hate to stop shipping it numerous times.

Like we KNOW these characters as they're portrayed would not fuck us. Or each other. But the best thing about fan content is it doesn't need to adhere to canon just let people have fun for christ sake. Hurts nobody, but sending anon hate? Posting in the main tags? Inexcusable. They literally associate themselves with you too, I'm sorry that they're doing that. You seem cool.

It seems like they are trying to get a reaction out of caejose fans. You know piss them off so they fight back and they can say "see? all caejose fans are toxic."

There's nothing we can do about them populating the caejose tag but block them and ignore their mean spited behavior.

Because at the end of the day they are two fictional men, it's not worth the effort. I've said it before and I'll say it again, fandom is supposed to be fun. Posting about your favorite character, ship, or series shouldn't involve infighting. So it's best to just ignore the bad apples who want to pick a fight.

Anyway, Caesar and Joseph are literally old married men. It's true, I've seen it
