Literally what is wrong with children’s songs???
Like, I know we often joke about how dark some of them are, but holy shit, some of them contain subject matter that’s so fucking depressing.
Like, I’m labeling CSD right now, which is literally a dataset of a singer singing children’s songs in the public domain, and one song it will be like “You do the hokey-pokey and u turn urself around”, and then the next SEVERAL will be like “This girl literally drowned to death, let’s sing about the things she left behind and how sad everybody is”, “This little boy was out playing with the farm animals, before seeing several of them get stolen away and/or brutalized by various local predators”, and “There’s a happy little cockroach who literally just wants to dance, but everybody hates her so they tear her fucking limbs off”.
Like, who made these and thought “ahh yes, children will LOVE these”?????

CW: poem about grief, contains various depictions of bodily harm and fatal scenario's such as tsunamis and parasites. Reader discretion is advised
Grief. It can hurt you hard and fast or creep up on you slowly and swallow you whole before you can scream.
Grief is a hand closing around your throat, pushing down on your windpipe until every breath is a struggle and you're choking.
Grief is a predator, stalking you from the shadows, creeping closer and closer before pouncing, giving you no time to react.
Grief is a towering tsunami rushing you, consuming everything in its path, impossible to outrun and before you know it your drowning, desperately trying to find the surface but you keep colliding with debris and getting tumbled around by the current.
Grief is a parasite, eating away at you sneakily until it's too late and you collapse. If you don't address it it can claim your life and will be too far gone to remove.
Grief is a fire burning from the inside, exploding from your mouth out of control, burning everything within reach and causing damage that can be hard to fix.
Grief is a silent killer, capable of hiding in plain sight and striking when you least expect it. No warning signs or alarms, just cold calculated assassination.
Grief is a snowstorm, blinding and isolating, cutting you off from everyone and making you lose your way. Numbing every part of your body until feeling is a thing of the past.
Grief is a poison, making it less potent in one instance and then ten times as bad the next and you never know which you'll get.
Grief is a disease, breaking you mentally, emotionally and physically, leaving you bedridden and drained of energy.

Lately I was thinking about 0108 parallels since they're both so associated with water and I had a thought.
Haruka and Amane are both shown drowning in their MVs
Tumblr media
Amane tries to swim back up; she believes she can still get what she reaches out for,
Tumblr media
she believes she can still truly be a “good girl” despite how much it is destroying her and how terrified she is of the very people who enforce the cult ideals on her, to the point that their faces never appear in her MVs (in Magic, there weren't even any humans beside her to begin with, only the mascots and animals)
Tumblr media
Haruka, on the other hand, just lets himself fall into the water; he does try to reach out for what he wants—his mother’s love—later on in the MV
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but she promptly disappears, i.e he already knows it’s no use doing that. He’s accepted that he cannot become what is expected of him, he believes that he’s inherently at fault and has already accepted that (thus the inno verdict in T1 ignited a lot of inner conflict and self loathing, even though he tries to appear confident and happy and Okay)

So I was working on my AU featuring the guy ever; Descole. But like halfway through I realized it was kinda similar to @teenytinyapprentice 's ghost!Luke au, so I drew him too!
I'm a huge fan of that au (and all of Tyler's Layton art tbh) so why not!
I feel like if Spirit!Descole and Ghost!Luke ever met, it would probably be the most awkward thing ever.

you're beautiful
Genre/Tropes: Comfort (Reader to Azul)
Summary: The reader is hanging at the pool till aces ruff housing ends up with y/n falling into the pool and as they were trying to swim back up they got a cramp and started to sink deeper into the pool panicking and they hear a splash (the rest I’ll leave up to u author Chan but if u could sneak a kiss between them it would be super cute 🥰)
Author's Comments: didn't sneak a kiss oops but its very fluffy comfort C:
~~~~~
Maybe taking a solo trip with Ace and Deuce to Octavinelle’s pool wasn’t the best idea.
Ace kept running around on the slick tiled floors, bare feet slapping annoyingly across the gorgeous blues and greens. With Deuce still in the locker room, there was nobody to rein him in—even though Deuce would likely start running after him and it would be up to you to stop them. His laughs bounce off the walls and he comes skidding to a stop right in front of you with a mischievous smirk. Before you can say anything to him, he shoves you into the pool with his whole body weight, falling in with you as your body hits the water. The sting of chlorine in your nose makes you hack and cough and kick, which Ace seems to find oh so amusing. You make a gargled noise that was supposed to sound like stop, but it sounds nothing like that at all.
“Come onnnn, Prefect. Now is just the time to decompress!” he sighs, resting on his back in the pool and leisurely floating as if he didn’t just body slam you into the water.
“It’d be more relaxing if you weren’t here.” you shoot back, sending your scariest death glare his way.
Ace could be so annoying sometimes.
“Wah wah.” Ace whines mockingly, shooting you a smug grin as he lifts his head up, “Bet Deuce would whine less than you.”
“I beg to differ.” you huff, flicking some cold water at his face.
Ace yelps and wipes it away, glaring at you now, too.
“Bet. I’ll prove it to you.” he snickers, splashing over to the other end of the pool and climbing out in the most ungraceful way possible.
You open your mouth to remind him of the “two people in the pool at a time so they always have someone with them in case they start to drown” policy, but he’s already out the door. You roll your eyes and opt to get out of the pool too, because better safe than sorry, right?
You begin to make your way over to the stairs, but just then the unthinkable happens.
Your leg starts to cramp up.
You flinch and reach down to massage it, and in that split second you find yourself sinking. You thrash to try and keep your head above water, but your cramp is only getting worse and you can only make out a strangled help before you’re pulled under.
You try kicking furiously to reach air again, thinking of how stupid this is and how dumb of a way this is to die, but you hear a splash and suddenly you’re saved by two unfamiliar arms and a mass of black and a bare chest. You weren't underwater for long, but the panic you felt at the prospect of drowning has your head spinning.
You break the surface of the water and find yourself curling into your savior’s chest, but you almost fall back into the water when you see his face.
It’s Azul.
His skin is tinged purple with black designs twisting over his chest. He’s staring down at you with an expression that’s clearly a mix of fury and disappointment.
“Hey.” you smile awkwardly, shrinking in on yourself.
“What are you doing!” he hisses through gritted teeth, staring so intensely at you that you that you’d think he was trying to burn holes into you, “What in Urusula’s name convinced you that swimming alone was a good idea?”
“I wasn’t alone! Ace and Deuce are here, they just…” you cross your arms over your chest, “Well...Ace was here. He left to go get Deuce. I was trying to get out of the pool when my leg cramped up.”
Azul sighs, the sound so relieved and ragged that you feel a dagger of guilt pierce your chest.
“Legs…” he mumbles, swiping the thumb against your thigh over the wet skin, “So pretty, yet so useless in water.”
Your face goes warm. You’ll unpack that later.
You almost don’t comprehend the useless part. Almost.
“You’re lucky I was here…if I hadn’t…” he presses his forehead against yours, clenching his eyes shut, “Prefect, please never do that again.”
“I won’t. I’m sorry.” you cling to him too, partly because you feel the weight of what just happened bearing down on you and partly because it just feels right.
Azul breathes in and out slowly, and you follow his lead. The two of you are still floating in the pool, and briefly you wonder why Ace hasn’t gotten back yet. (Maybe this is all just an Octavinelle scheme and Jade and Floyd are running interference. Then again, maybe your boys are just strangling each other. Either one is plausible.)
Your mind shifts to Azul’s merform, and you turn to face him out of curiosity. He looks confused as you stare, but after a few beats of you just looking he seems to remember what form he’s in. He flushes a soft pink, clears his throat, sets you down on the poolside, and before you can tell him that you don’t mind and that you think he’s beautiful he’s diving beneath the water and leaving you alone.
You furrow your brow and shift positions to lay on your belly. The water ripples as you reach for it, dipping your fingers into the chilly pool. You’re disappointed when nothing happens. The reflection of your face is staring back at you, the overheard lights glaring against the smooth, crystalline surface. It’s so calm, you’d almost believe that Azul just teleported away.
“Azul.” you call out, waving your hand around in the water to hopefully entice him back up, “Azul, come back.”
Nothing.
“Azul…” you sigh, “Can you come back up here, please?”
You wait in silence for a few moments, staring down at the water as you crane your neck to see into the pool. When nothing happens, you flop back with a deep sigh. You wish Azul could feel more comfortable with you, but you aren’t sure how to get him to open up-
A tentacle curls around your wrist, and you jump in surprise. It rips away from you and a mass of black flinches away from the surface, but you jump up and thrust your hand into the water to let him know that it's okay.  You feel him take it and squeeze, but he stays underwater.
“I’m sorry, Azul. You just surprised me, that’s all.” you hum, “...you can touch me. I promise I’m not repulsed. I think you’re beautiful.”
Silence.
“Do you want me to see you?” you ask, “Squeeze my hand once if no, twice for yes.”
He squeezes your hand. Once.
“But I already saw you.” you whisper, “You don’t need to hide. Here—come here, Azul. Do what you did before again.”
A few bubbles pop at the surface. You can only assume he just huffed, but he does what you ask. A tentacle curls around your wrist, this time more shy, and you slowly reach down to touch it. He flinches, and you stop, but he doesn’t pull away completely.
“Thank you for doing that. I mean it when I say you’re beautiful.” you say, rubbing your thumb over the slick appendage, “I promise nothing bad will happen if you let me see you again, Azul.”
And you link your pinky with his.
He understands.
His head pops up out of the water, and instead of the soft pink you saw earlier his face is red. A water droplet slides down his cheek, and you’re not sure if it's actual water or his tears, but you don’t pry. You take your hand away from his tentacle to reach out for him.
“There you are, pretty.” you smile, gently pressing your palm to his cheek.
“There’s no need to butter me up.” he huffs. A different tentacle lifts out of the water and curls around your arm.
“I like them. They’re pretty, just like you.” you say, and he knows you’re not lying because you don’t yank your hand away in disgust at the slimy texture or a suckers or the sopping limb that’s so unnatural.
“Ah…” he flushes again, sinking into the water and blowing irritated bubbles, “You’re a strange one indeed.”
“And you’re beautiful.” you say, and he dunks his head back in the water to hide his blush but you’re too busy laughing with glee to chastise him.
Azul will come around one of these days. You’ll see to it.
〔You Dream of Giving Up.〕
(the following piece contains a brief depiction of drowning. please stay safe!)
post-canon osis thing because i got normal about it.
〔You dream about drowning.〕
〔You dream about everyone drowning. Of watching heads dip under water, of struggling bodies giving in. You dream about not being able to do anything, because the water is also filling your lungs. Of crying out in pain and making no sound, burning from the inside out even though you're freezing.〕
〔You dream of giving up.〕
〔You jerk awake, choking on your own spit.〕
〔No. No no no!〕
〔You've had this dream before.〕
〔Hah! Hahaha! You're back. You must be. If you had that dream again then you're sure you're back. The sound of splashing water roars in your ears.〕
〔You feel like you can't breathe. You gasp for air but you can't get enough in. No! No. C'mon, Isabeau! You'll just go back again if you can't calm down! And that'll just make everything worse.〕
〔You just. You need to breathe.〕
〔Just breathe.〕
*〔In…〕
〔… and out.〕*
"Shhhhhhhh."
〔!!!〕
〔Your breath hissed when you breathed out.〕
〔You jam your lips together with force, sliding them roughly against each other.〕
〔Scar.〕
〔Your scar is right there on your face. You still have a scar. It's still there.〕
〔Just to make sure, you glide your tongue along your top lip. You feel the way it lifts.〕
〔The scar is there. And you are here.〕
〔You're free, Isabeau.〕
〔You've been cut loose. Patched up.〕
〔You're something new.〕
I dont care if its ‘aged up’ you’re still an adult and thats fucking weird. I dont care if minors write about minors. But when adults get involved i find it really weird.
I've got a question for and or about Buck. So he also goes by and is referred to as "The Invincible Bulkhead" but I was wondering if he's actually invincible, like superpower wise, or if it's just a name because he's a strong guy?
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white digital ink drawing of Puzz's OC Buck, a middle-aged white man with a barrel-chested build, big nose, balding hairstyle and bushy mustache, wearing a turtleneck sweater. He is standing with his hands on his hips and glaring, saying, "Wouldn't you like to know. End ID.]
Buck's not especially eager to talk through the strengths and weaknesses of His Whole Deal, but I have no such hangups! The answer's sure to get a little rambly (and also, content warning, is Talking About Ways You Could Theoretically Kill This Guy), so I'll put it under the cut.
So the long and short is basically "Buck DOES have powers, but he's not actually invincible". Buck's superpower is more along the lines of superhuman durability - he can take a lot of hits that would severely injure or kill the average person, and he bounces back from most injuries far faster. Say, for example, you slam a two-by-four into his face or something. Average person's going to have a broken nose, maybe even be concussed; Buck's gonna have a brief nosebleed and then be back at it.
The big shortcomings to this come in terms of what this power DOESN'T do. For one, it doesn't come with any kind of super strength or natural fighting abilities - he's only about as strong as you'd expect an average middle-aged man to be, and he's actually pretty dogshit at fighting hand-to-hand, both of which are why he generally relies on piloting a mech while Davey (who, despite having a civilian upbringing and no superpowers, IS a very capable hand-to-hand combatant) does most of the physical fighting.
The other big thing is that, as stated, Buck's durable rather than invincible. What this basically means is, if it's something a human body can't theoretically, physically recover from on its own, it's possible for him to die because of it. So like, if he's suffocated or drowned or otherwise can't breathe, that would kill him, because his super-durability isn't, like, generating bonus air for him. Similarly, something like decapitation would kill him, because the healing wouldn't kick in faster than the actual Death Effects. All this comes together to mean Buck's more likely to die of, like, a really bad asthma attack than he is getting the shit beaten out of him by a superhero.
The very weird plays in Tsukasa and Rui's last event and how they can be analysed and the weird detail that links them together
I made a post about this before but it was poorly made (and also not really a theory or analysis it was just me having brainworms) so I deleted it and I want to actually make an analysis about it. Unfortunatly this also means this post will be long as fuck which can be a positive or a negative depending on how you view it.
Warning for mentions of suicide and drowning
So Tsukasa and Rui both have plays that are kind of the focus of the event, to the point where wxs literally stop to basically explain to us the plot of them (in world they're just talking about it but like it's clear it's also meant for us the viewers to understand the plays they're doing).
And these two plays are already very interesting and...well dark on their own but they have a extremely strange similarity that I don't believe is a coincidence (because that would be insane) and also just kinda shakes the foundation on how colorpalet write these sorts of topics in general.
First I want to preface this by saying that me analysing these plays isn't some kind of fool's herrand as colorpalet has explicitely hid backstory information, future lore hints and overall just little bits of character into WxS's plays more often than not. Of course some plays are more explicit than others.
A huge exemple of this, is the first arc ender where the play they do to save Phennyland is one that obviously is meant to parallel Emu's backstory with her grandpa. It also stands as Very early foreshadowing between the parallels of Emu's grandpa and Tsukasa that Emu sees in Admist a Dream.
So yeah, from a writing standpoint, makes sense you don't want the plays you spent a lot of words describing to the audience to be useless especially considering colorpalet has a limited amount of time to explore these stories.
I also want to get this as early as possible before I get possible criticism because I know how this fandom acts towards analysis that delve into darker topics. Don't try and respond with "colorpalet wouldn't write something like that" or "this is too dark for colorpalet". Not only because I'm not insinuating that they will actually go full dark mode and depict something graphic.
But also because this is something that is already IN the text, I'm not making up darker themes here, that is something that colorpalet chose to add in WonderlandXShowtime's event stories. I'm only bringing up how odd this is for colorpalet and how it could relate to the overall story.
I'll bring this up later because this specific criticism gets very silly once you delve deeper into it but I don't want to stall the analysis any longer.
So now with this out of the way, let's get into the plays.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the story of the first play showed in Tsukasa's event
Of course the first thing that stands out is how much darker this play is compared to well...almost anything colorpalet addresses in stories ? This definitely shocked when I first read it, there is no usage of "disappearing" and it Actually describes the method as to which the protagonist wants to end their life which the only thing close to that we see is Kanade hinting on wanting to starve herself. But I'm gonna get into how weird this is for colorpalet later.
Extremely dark topics aside you can easily draw parallels to this story to Nene and Rui specifically already. The story is vague enough that those parallels don't hold too much water (ahaha get it) BUT it's still something that I feel is important to point out nontheless.
Nene and Rui were both unsuccesful in their dreams before the main story. Nene having given up going on stage and Rui never being able to be a director being forced to use robots for his plays.
Both were pretty jaded and well "worn out" until they met Tsukasa and Emu which would be a stand in for the protagonist of this play going through various encounters with many people and deciding to live a little longer.
(The reason I don't compare this protagonist to Tsukasa and Emu here is because I don't think they fit as well. Tsukasa's issues wasn't being unsuccesful its more so him forgetting the reasons behind his dreams and Emu's situation while similar just doesn't feel like it fits this story in particular)
So yeah this story is pretty simple so there is not much to analyse or pick apart. I could go scene by scene but then I would be distracting from the main point I want to make so I'll just be using the simple descriptions of the overall story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW this one is a doozie, I didn't put the whole story that's described but I think compared to the last one this one is way more obvious as to what this could paralleling (or even foreshadowing if you want to be spicy).
I don't think this play is meant to be interpreted in only one way but the most obvious interpretation is the parallels to the disbandement arc. I think it particularly fits Rui in the disbandement considering how Katsuyuki is described but it can also work with Emurui in general as well.
Someone struggling meeting someone who brings joy in their life before they seemingly have to leave, said person being desperate for that not to happen.
I do think it's also meant to be a sort of double meaning here as if you have seen my cyberpunk deadboy analysis, the idea of someone leaving silently with the other trying to chase them down is something that just feels...idk intentional. But I don't have any evidence other than vibes here.
Now that I analysed these plays I want to get into the one common thread they have that is extremely baffling and concerning.
They both have the main character contemplating suicide by drowning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now you can be nitpicky and point out how the play in Rui's event doesn't explicitely say that this dude wants to drown himself but I just find it more likely mostly because of how this and the description of Katsuyuki's characters are phrased.
When Katsyuki is said to be "without the will to live"
Tumblr media
THAT is a literal translation
Unfortunatly I'm not a japanese speaker so don't take my research with 100 pourcent certainty
However if you look at how this sentence is phrased in japanese, this translation is pretty much word for word
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And also just what Hajime says doesn't feel like what someone would say to someone if they're just leaning to close to look at the ocean or just being reckless.
Anyways now that I've made my point that there is a 95 pourcent chance this is Heavily implying Katsuyuki was plannign on drowning himself the question is....
what the fuck ?
Now one time is already a big deal considering colorpalet's insitance on censoring explicit mentions of suicide and for it to be implied twice in the span of two events in a row ? And have it be specifically be by drowning both times ?????
I don't understand people just brushing this off because Colorpalet Actively chose to make the plays like this. These plays often take a large portion of the screentime, and I've showcased how they can hold story significance so such a blatant connection between them feels extremely intentional.
This is why complaints about expecting Colorpalet to get too dark and that it's unrealistic would be legitmatly silly because what's more unrealistic ?
That colorpalet has tackled this dark topic twice in a row to foreshadow or hint at possible topics that will be addressed in the future of WxS's story ? Weither it's through flashbacks or implications like 25ji OR even just symbolism.
Or that colorpalet just went and made the plays needlessly dark, for no reason ?????? Twice in a row with it being drowning both times ??????? With the same actor and both being the protagonist of the play ?????? Have those plays that take a lot of screentime being described just being completely devoid meaning ???????
I think I made my case about why the fandom's usual kneejerk reaction wouldn't make sense here, this isn't a "X character is secretly suicidal/depressed" situation.
Either way, I actually don't legitematly know what this could entail. This is clearly important enough that colorpalet is obviously shoving it in our faces but I do not know the meaning of it towards WxS's story just yet.
It could be hints at some of the members backstory (BTW by that I mean it could be hints at basically anything, it doesn't have to be explicitely 1/1 "they wanted to drown themselves") specifically Rui considering how suspicious they are at handling ms Rui but that is it's own can of wringling worms. But that could also be my fav character bias speaking tbf.
It could also just be meant to be some kind of like, message of colorpalet saying that they are willing to go darker with WxS's storyline if necessary. In a way showing that the gloves are off if they're not censoring dark topics that they usually censor.
Anyways I'm not delving further into it because otherwise i'd get into unhinged rants but honestly this subject just gives me so much brainworms because legit what the Fuck is colorpalet doing rn.
They are being so weird for literally no reason with WxS's story and I just have to sit back and watch them just drop weird shit out of nowhere.
Edit : One of my friends pointed out how one of them is a movie and one of them is a play and i realised I might've mixed those words up while writing this so yeah 😭
#project sekai#rui kamishiro#tsukasa tenma#emu otori#nene kusanagi#prsk#pjsk#prsk analysis#pjsk analysis#wxs#wonderlandxshowtime#tw suicide#tw drowning#tw mentions of suicide#warning before you interract with this post though#I'm doing this for fun#I appreciate wanting to give feedback but it kinda just kills the vibe for me#I'm sorry for being so defensive in a majority of the post but I feel like this is necessary considering what I know about the fandom#This is also not an invitation to try and criticise my post anyways just block and move on#This fandom just gets really touchey when people try and do analysis like this which I understand considering some rlly bad analysis#have come out of completely forgetting how colorpalet writes stories but like#that is very much not what i'm doing the topics are THERE i'm just reacting to them#And also just the “colorpalet wouldn't do that its unrealistic” is like pretty much not something I can argue against completely because#the point in itself is not based on evidence like we will never know how far colorpalet would go until they Go There#(also if you believe i'm vagueposting about someone through these constant warnings you'd be kind of right but like this is also just to#(make sure i'm understood because the last I post I made definitely gave people the wrong vibe which is my bad)#(these analysis mean a lot to me#personally so I want to make sure that this keeps being fun for me)#(anyways rlly sorry for the rant in the tags eirfuezij)#TLDR : i don't mean harm towards anyone if you don't agree with me it's in your full right but don't try and jump into the rb's to argue
What is the Behavioral Event Network?
I just went through the last arc of the ARG (finally), and when paired with the full context of the rest of the ARG, it actually answers a lot of questions regarding what BEN is, its abilities, and its past. However, I feel like it's not very clear to people what exactly "Behavioral Event Network" means and what it does, especially if they don't interact with the BEN Drowned ARG much.
(Forewarning: While I will be trying to write as accurately to the ARG as possible, at the end of the day this is my own interpretation. Many things in it are not only left unclear but are made open for interpretation on purpose, allowing a range of theories to technically be true.
Additionally, content warnings for cults, human sacrifice, and a little bit of talk about general death and violence. Largely average Creepypasta stuff.)
What a character involved with the creation of the Network has to say about it:
Tumblr media
The Behavioral Event Network was created by The Moon Children cult, who later renamed themselves to The Eternity Project sometime after 2012 (or the events of the second arc). This statement from Abel implies that the Behavioral Event Network isn't necessarily a single entity or a group of entities that act in sync with each other, but instead a collection of the ascended/digitized people who exist in Majora's Mask.
The purpose of ascension is to supposedly allow the ascendant to free themselves from the fear and struggles of everyday life so that they can live on forever in the digital realm, where they can supposedly go anywhere and be anything that they can dream of and enjoy it, traveling between The Eternity Project's several digital realms for the rest of eternity. After their subject is sufficiently manipulated into wholeheartedly sharing the Moon Children's beliefs, they do this by utilizing a mysterious process that seems to turn them into ghosts and trap them inside a digital AI in a digital realm that the ascendant chooses before they die.
However, this doesn't typically go as planned. For Ben in particular, he allegedly (according to Matt, an ascended member of the Moon Children) wanted to become Link in Majora's Mask. However, the ascended don't always have complete control of what happens to them--leading to things like Ben being trapped inside of The Elegy of Emptiness instead of getting to be Link (at least while the game was being played by someone else, as two people can't use the same model at the same time). Most people who ascend are seen lamenting having done so in some way. There's a theme of betrayal throughout the entire ARG, with phrases like "THEY LIED TO US" being used throughout.
The Father and Absorption
Despite Ben's death being the one that sparked the creation of the Majora's Mask world, Ben was not the first to ascend. Rather, that accolade goes to The Father (also known as Kelbris).
In life, Kelbris was known as a prophet who was the only one who could hear the voice of Luna, the Moon Children's diety. He believed that the world would end soon and that the moon would consume everything--and this influenced the developing cult significantly. In 1998, the Moon Children discovered his electrocuted corpse next to a power outlet. Despite not knowing whether it was foul play or suicide, Kelbris was hailed as the first one to ascend and the cult began to sacrifice its own members, experimenting with ways of having others achieve the same "spiritual release" that Kelbris had.
According to The Moon Children, Kelbris had managed to inhabit a vessel that was "archaic" and they described his ascension process as "unrefined", possibly referencing how Kelbris feels less human than the ascended that came after him. While he is a prevalent force in the cartridge (self-identifying as a god) and the ARG as a whole, he appears to only respond to "stimuli" and react based off of what his code tells him.
Tumblr media
When Kelbris/The Father appears in the ARG, he's typically tormenting, threatening, or killing someone--most kills in the ARG are implied to be The Father. However, this behavior may have been coerced by other characters in the ARG.
When The Father kills someone, they are absorbed into the Behavioral Event Network. The most obvious example of this is when it happens to Jadusable (the ARG's first protagonist) after going too far into the cartridge in "THE FATHER.wmv", a video from the 3rd arc. This is implied to happen to a few other characters as well, such as Matt (who appears in the cartridge in the 3rd arc after Kelbris is presumed to have killed him in the 2nd).
Additionally, one of the videos uploaded on Jadusable's YouTube account before the first arc started (the "Creepypasta story" that most people in the fandom know,) a video called "Prototype: All Consume Kills (Warning: Extremely Graphic)" was uploaded, which was confirmed by Jadusable to be a "vague metaphor" for how BEN operates. (So canonically, the Behavioral Event Network kind of works like Alex Mercer in Prototype 😭😭 have fun with that one...) This alludes to the fact that as more characters in the ARG die, more souls get added to the BEN or Majora's Mask world.
Who is in the Behavioral Event Network?
The short answer to this question is... A lot. A lot of people. Pretty much every dead Moon Child is in it, as well as every participant in The Eternity Project after the Moon Children rebranded--most people who have successfully ascended besides from Sarah are in the BEN. Not all of them were absorbed by The Father, a lot of them are implied to have been ascended through other means and somehow ended up in Majora's Mask instead of their intended world.
I might make a longer post about people who are or are likely in the BEN, though I do want to touch on the dominant forces in BEN briefly. This is who I think is largely responsible for BEN's actions as a collective in the ARG as a whole:
The Father: See the above section. He's very powerful and sometimes even breaches the outside world, and some people interpret him as a type of overseer of the BEN. He could have been easily manipulated due to his simplistic and poorly developed AI.
Ben: Typically represented via the Elegy of Emptiness statue. It's not entirely clear the role Ben (the kid who drowned) plays in BEN, though he is confirmed to be involved in terrorizing Jadusable in the first arc (aka the "original Creepypasta story"). Additionally, the Elegy of Emptiness statue is a common motif throughout the ARG--the "canon BEN" image is an AI-generated image with the Elegy of Emptiness likely being used as a source, and in the second arc, dead or missing characters would often have the Elegy of Emptiness statue pasted on their page. While in the 3rd arc, Ben is treated as the innocent, tortured soul who inhabits the Elegy of Emptiness, (eg. Matt says that he was trapped but conscious in the statue unable to do anything, and Circle also refers to him as innocent,) he may have (or previously had) more influence over the game than it seems on the surface. However, it is notable that in The Last Hero.wmv, Matt appears to be able to summon an Elegy statue to a location on his own seemingly without any input from Ben, and that Ben is frequently seen terrified of The Father.
The Masked Children (Goht, Odolwa, Gyorg, Twinmold, and Majora): They use the models of the Moon Children seen on the moon in the original Majora's Mask, and are implied to be inhabited by different spirits. When they're in agreement (or "consensus"), they speak like The Three Witches in Macbeth, but when they're not, there's often a lot of bickering/infighting between each other. Their participation in the events of the first and second arcs is hinted at several times (the dream that Jadusable has in the first arc where a mask is being forced onto his face is connected to (and may have even been induced by) them, one of the first arc's entries is updated in 2020 which includes an added dialogue sequence similar to the way we see the Maksed Children talk to each other in the videos, Goht in particular is connected to DROWNED, the largely silent admin of the Moon Children website in the second arc,) though the third arc is when their actions are more directly connected to them. In the third arc, a few of them are seen fighting Sarah as their respective bosses so they can appease The Father. They're credited with posting signs that have messages like "GET OUT" written on them (which are similar messages seen when something didn't want players to see a webpage, video, or document in earlier parts of the ARG), and they're regularly hostile to Sarah and call her a monster.
Tumblr media
This is most of them together, though Odolwa is missing after their encounter with Sarah. You can see better images of their in-game models here.
Rosa: Rosa is another character I find a bit vague and confusing, because she seems to be dead and inhabiting a non-Majora game in the prologue, but appeared to be alive in the second arc. I don't believe Matt makes any comments about his "sister" being dead, though she also disappeared when players used The Song of Healing, so I'm really not sure... Maybe Matt was dead too? Was everyone on that forum dead when the players discovered it? However, she claims to have previously had power in Majora's Mask, though this ended up being heavily diminished by 2020. Another reason why Rosa is notable is because depictions of BEN as a more uniform collective (such as in iseeyou) often contain feminity to some degree, which is usually credited to her by people trying to make sense of it.
Tumblr media
Rosa talking about her previous power over Majora's Mask.
Tumblr media
A more feminine image of BEN from end.wmv.
Tumblr media
An image of a feminine person (assumed by the Jadusable Wiki editors to be Rosa) used in conjunction with the "canon BEN" image and Kelbris/The Father.
TL;DR: BEN can absorb people and makes them Majora's Mask NPCs (like Alex Mercer!), the BEN page on Jadusable Wiki could probably be renamed to World Alpha, and no, you can't fuck it.
Feel free to ask me any questions about this, the ARG, or Creepypasta in general, and I'll do my best to respond!
TW.
This might become a chapter series~
THIS FANFICTION IS A XMAS GIFT FOR @calcium-cat!!! <3 IT TAKES PLACE BEFORE CHAPTER 21.
Major tw for drowning, blood, and trauma!
Plot based off of @orbital-inclination's Molten Dream oneshot and @calcium-cat's One Small Dream AU, plus her oneshot Shattered Dreams 1 and 2 on Ao3!
Please take this angst, Cal. This is only the first chapter, of course. Suffer as you made us feel with chapter 21 and 22~
Some things that should never have been said chapter 1 - the accident (Word count over 2000!)
Dream sat in his room, in front of the ripped up (and, now that he truly looked at it, it was bad, awful, just as horrible as-) drawing on the floor.
The ripped drawing, torn straight in half, showed him and Nighty. Well, Nighty before this. They were in front of the tree, the scribbled sun shining brightly. They had been holding hands before Dream ripped it.
Dream felt.. numb. Sad, angry, but he didn't want to alert Nightmare with his feelings, so he pushed them far, far down.
He didn't want to be here anymore.
He crumbled the pieces of the drawing, put on his cape, and waited.
He waited until he knew no one would be awake anymore. He had decided to break Nightmare's rules, to leave, to find a way out of this 'AU', they called it. (Dream still didn't understand the concept of 'alternate universes', he was still only just a child.)
He opened his door, hearing the almost silent creeak as it slid. Dream began to walk towards where he had escaped before, his footsteps falling silently on the stone below, as he began to let free some of that sadness by silently sobbing. His head ached. He wanted to get out now.. before someone caught him. As Dream wriggled through the window, he began to feel better. (Although the feelings he buried deep down threatened to stir, as he thought subconsciously what Nightmare would think.)
He began to run after a bit, his shoes making the leaves and sticks underneath crackle and snap. He had gotten far enough away that no one would hear him. He wasn't sure if that would be a bad thing or not.
(Of course, how would he know? He was purposefully trying to do this. He didn't want anyone to hear.)
~~~
"Dream, listen to me! Please-!"
"I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF, NIGHTY!! I DON'T NEED YOU!! LEAVE ME ALONE!!"
His face fell, as Dream backed away before running away, far away. He began to lightly sob, as he processed this. His fingers gripped the soft grass below, as he-
..soft grass?.. The only grass around his castle was thick and piercing. This wasn't right. He glanced up. The Tree of Feelings.. and the village? He was confused, looking at himself. Purple clothing with gold accents. He gripped his forehead. A crown, with a moon engraving..?
This.. was not right. He needed to wake up.
And, as he felt the sharp, agonizing pierce of negativity in his soul..
..his eyelight opened. Nightmare sat up quickly, panicking at how sour and wrong this felt. He had never felt something like this before, not here. This was almost like a cry for help. This.. this was very, very wrong.
He pulled off the covers, silently slipping out and checking each room. All of them were normal.
..except for Dream's. Dream was gone. He was gone? This wasn't right, although Nightmare had very much established that before. This feeling was coming from somewhere else. Maybe he had left? But he knew the rules.Nightmare quivered, his negative goop dripping onto the stone floor as he pondered it.
...Maybe.. maybe he was still bitter from the fight. Maybe he didn't want to be with Nightmare and the others anymore. (Which, Nightmare would never admit this, but that possibility scared him more than death.)
He ran out into the (sickly) empty forest. So much fear filled him, he thought he would explode, as Nightmare ran through the forest, getting closer to the feeling..
He heard the rushing of the river. The river shouldn't be rushing right now. It was the middle of winter, for star's sake! Then it hit Nightmare that Dream could be inside the river. Inside.. those rapids.. the rushing water..-! He needed to find Dream. Now.
~~~
Dream couldn't see. He didn't know what had happened. Everything was cold, he had to hold his breath-
He had slipped, taken a few tumbles, and… fallen. Fallen into.. a stream? A river, perhaps? Dream couldn't tell. All he knew was that he needed to swim up. But which way was up? For all Dream knew, he could be upside down. He hit the bottom of the lake, crashing into a rock. Dream opened his mouth to cry out-
And water- horrible, bitter tasting, dirty water rushed into his lungs, his mouth-His lungs screamed for air, (metaphorically, skellies don't have lungs I'm just stupid) his eyesockets opened, and he spotted a light. The surface.
And then that light dimmed out. Dream was still conscious, he hadn't closed his eyes.. but what was blocking his vision..?
All he knew is that he was quickly thrusted out of the stream, coughing and choking out river water and bile onto the sandy shore below.
His vision began to fade as Dream collapsed, exhausted and scared. He didn't want this.. what was going on..?
~~~
Nightmare lifted Dream out of the rushing river just before he went out of sight, setting him gently on the shore as panic filled his soul, his entire being. “DREAM!!”
As Dream fell, he was lifted gently with a tentacle and taken into Nightmare's arms, as Nightmare hyperventilated a little. Sure, sure they were immortal to old age or any natural causes.
But murder or something like this could still kill them.
Nightmare frantically pulled out his phone, and sent a single text.
'River. Now. Bring monster candy and run.'
And he waited, holding Dream's shivering, small figure. Dream's soul was filled with fear.. and some incomprehensible emotion.. perhaps hatred? He looked down at the puddle Dream had choked out. How long had he been in that stream before Nightmare came? How long had he suffered?
Dream's HP was.. scarily low. Nightmare couldn't exactly heal it due to how terrified he was, but he could at least look for the wound.
There.
Nightmare lifted up Dream's wet shirt and stared at the fracture that ran through the back of Dream's ribcage and spine.
That.. that was bad.
Where were his boys?..Had they not woken to the text?Maybe he should call.Yeah, maybe that was it.
But as Nightmare stared at the bloody crack, he couldn't
move
a single
bone.
He couldn't even process how dull and cracked Dream's tiny soul looked. He didn't process Dream's health
slowly
depleting
to 1.
And, when he did, he still couldn't move. Nightmare stared at Dream's small, shaking body as panic set in, quicker and heavier than before.
“DREAM!! WAKE UP!!”
Where were his boys when he needed them?! He sent another frantic text, before calling Horror.
It took a moment, but eventually the phone was answered. “mmm.. boss?.. it's 3 in.. the morning..” Nightmare couldn't help but feel a twinge of humor at how ridiculously tired Horror sounded.
“You didn't get my text?..” Nightmare mumbled into the microphone in such a blank, sorrowful tone that disgusted him. He was the Guardian of Negativity, and he was upset. But, then again, he was upset over Dream.
“..I'm looking right now. You sound upset enough, I know it's probably important. .. I'll be there with Cross, Killer and Dust in a moment. Whatever it is, please be safe, boss.”
The phone clicked, as Nightmare realized the kindness in Horror’s tone.
And Nightmare sat there, holding Dream as he focused everything on making sure Dream didn't lose the last of his HP.
~~~
Horror pondered things while he dressed and woke the others. He went into the kitchen to wait.
Nightmare had sounded so sad..
He took a few bites of the leftover food that Killer had set out, before wondering why Dream hadn't come outside during all the chaos.
Probably just asleep.
It was too early for him, after all. He'd never get to sleep if he was up at this ungodly hour. He didn’t even know why Nightmare needed everyone, and he said he needed monster candy..?
All Horror knew is that none of his (brothers) co-workers were missing. It worried him.
Perhaps just a peek into Dream's room..
He started toward the cracked door, footsteps growing slowly faster when it seemed like he would never get there.He opened the door quietly, the whine of the squeaky hinges causing Horror to wince before looking inside.
Pieces of ripped paper and broken crayons on the floor. His Nightmare doll on the ground, like he had thrown it into the wall. Cape missing. Pajamas on the floor. Shoes missing. Bedsheets torn aside and strewn around the room.
Horror.. was now feeling his namesake, as he yelled at the others to hurry up. He ran as fast as he could to the medicine cabinet, grabbing every single monster candy they had and a few bandages, stuffing them inside his coat pocket.
He began to dash back out, before running into Cross. He almost knocked the oreo-looking skeleton over, quickly apologizing before trying to run again.
He felt a light pressure on his arm, and turned to Cross.“..You're never this upset, big guy. Tell me what's wrong, and take a deep breath, okay?..”
Horror felt a little relief, and sighed, explaining how broken Nightmare had sounded on the call....
and the fact that Dream's room was a mess, the small space no longer holding the small positivity guardian. Cross went silent at that, eye lights searching Horror’s face, concern and mild fear in them.“..Killer, Dust, hurry up. This could be something related to Dream. He's not in his room.”
Killer and Dust immediately picked up their pace, albeit not very much. Horror grimaced. “..I've got the candies. Grab some bandages and meet me out there.” Despite knowing he already had a few, he knew that he needed to prepare.
He ran out the door, eventually hearing the river rushing...
..and Nightmare yelling Dream's name. Oh, dear stars, his fears were true and Dream was hurt, he was hurt, Horror had a right to worry and maybe he would never even see that little smile ever again and yes that struck him harder than any blow he'd ever taken even from Undyne-
“HORROR! HERE, QUICK!!” Nightmare's dread filled voice cut Horror out of his panic attack as he ran over to look at Dream. Upon seeing how soaked, and shivering and cold the poor thing looked, he texted Killer ‘bring a towel.’
“Boss, tell me, is he hurt, how low is his HP, and how long has he been like this?!”
Nightmare took a deep breath before responding.
“He's got a severe fracture on his ribs and spine, I've been keeping him from dusting, he's at 1, and..”
Nightmare trailed off. Horror caught from the guilt on Nightmare's face, that Nightmare had not been here when Dream had fallen in. “..I brought bandages.” Horror mumbled before gently lifting the small bittybones’ shirt and taking a better look at the broken bones.
Oh.
Oh stars.
Oh stars oh stars oh stars oh stars-
“..Horror?..”
Dream was really hurt this bad? This could've killed him, he should've come sooner-“
..Horror, you're pulling at your socket, you're spacing out.”
And all that guilt came crashing down on Horror as he stared, filled with his namesake, at the bloody fracture.
“-Horror!”
He blinked as Nightmare waved his hand in front of Horror's face. He gently removed his fingers from the side of his face, feeling the sore pain of his soft eyesocket. “..We need to focus on Dream right now.”
Horror sighed and began to carefully wrap the bandages around the tiny bones, minding when Dream let out a water-filled pained cry through his unconsciousness, muffled through Nightmare's hoodie.
He turned Dream onto his back, popping a candy in his mouth before leaning back and attempting to take a deep breath.
That failed.
As did the next attempt.
He spaced out on the dark, cloudy sky, beginning to hyperventilate. He pulled his skull down in between his knees, barely holding back tears.
He stayed like that.
Maybe Horror believed that it was too late.
~~~
Horror still layed, spaced out in his bed, staring at the ceiling.
Killer, Dust, and Cross had arrived, and they had gotten Dream back to the castle. All Horror could see was that frail, injured, tiny, shaking, cold, wet body. Did what he feel count as feeling traumatized?
He didn't register the hand waving in front of his face.
He, of course, didn't register the voice saying his name.
Until it got louder, of course.
That hurt his already aching skull, as he went to groan and hold his head, he felt cold tears.
Had he been crying?
He hadn't noticed..
His senses slowly flooded back, and he registered Killer's half-gloved hand waving in front of his eyesockets.He turned his head, to see.. Killer was worried? He didn't have enough strength to register what Killer was saying, until it hit a quiet, shaking level of worry.
“..Horror..? ..You okay?.. You're k-kinda scarin’ me..”
He shook his head and everything flooded back.
“Oh.. oh yeah.. yeah, I'm okay.”
Okay or not, he felt an aching feeling pulling down his soul like blue magic. Fear. Doubt. Guilt?
He waved Killer away.
“..You should try to get some more sleep. It's 3:37.”
“Ah- y-yeah- of course-..”
Horror turned to the wall, trying to begin spacing out again.
But he noticed that Killer.. never actually left?
He looked back, seeing Killer hesitate
.“..We’re both worried, Killer. You should go to Nightmare. I think Cross is doing first watch on Dream tonight.”
Killer was silent, as he nodded stiffly and left the room.After a while, Horror's eyesockets shut.He had fallen asleep.
But that nagging guilt still tugged.
~~~
Dream was tired. He could make out that much. He felt the pain. He felt the cold, until someone had wrapped him up. Someone had given him candy.. and bandaged him?His head still ached more than anything. Hadn't they fixed it? Or maybe that was the adrenaline in his soul wearing off.
From all he knew, he had hit the bottom of the river. He had passed out after.. Nightmare saved him? Was it Nighty?
He really didn't know right now..
He wanted Nighty now.
He wanted to hold his goopy tentacle. Dream knew that Nighty was not near. From what little awareness he had, Crossy was with him.
He wanted to wake up.
Yes, that was what Dream wanted!
He needed to get up! And apologize!
After all, it was pretty early.
Or maybe that was just his head aching that convinced him of the time.. it could be the middle of the day for all Dream could know..
Eventually, Crossy swapped for Rory.
He wanted a hug from Rory.
Dream was in pain again.Like when he lost his tooth, but a billion times worse..
Okay, maybe he was overreacting.
Even a child could tell that much.
---
It's mine and a few others' headcanon that Horror pulls on his socket when he's nervous! :3
I accidentally cut off the last few sentences, but I'll pop them into the next chapter <3
merry christmas everybody!!!
