Ignorant Bliss AU
This au I made on Discord combining my friend melody's highschool au idea with an amnesia au. Revised a little bit to make it more angsty. So in this au Amirana as a teen has quickly wisened up and she hates the traditions and life she is forced into by her family who has no regards for her feelings. Also Navren is still a jerk in this au. She wants to get away from it all and go on a journey of exploration and hopefully find a planet that will let her just be herself. She stole a Lexiconian space craft and began her excursion. She unfortunately got caught in a solar storm that sent her ship plummeting to Earth where she crash landed. Unlike Huggy's crash, this was more severe as her ship was destroyed. Amirana climbed out, still alive but heavily injured she walked slowly towards Fair City where she fell unconscious onto a sidewalk. She was found by worried and concerned Bampy Botsford and his son Tim. They took her to a hospital. When Amirana woke up, she had no memory of her life befor the crash. She didn't even remember what caused her injuries. She didn't recall her name nor her own species. She was taken care of at the hospital and made a full physical recovery. Thought the issue was since she was a minor and had no family to claim her yet. She would have to be sent to an orphanage or foster family. Bampy not wanting the poor kid to be alone, talked with his wife and kids about the situation. Thus Teresa Botsford was with her new family and lived the normal life of an earth woman. She went to high school and college in Fair City. She discovered her powers but out of fear did not tell her family because she was afraid of being cast aside for being not normal. She believes she is a meta human. Bampy finds out during the episode "Bampy Battles Bots." Teresa takes a job as a teacher in Fair City at Woodview. Like in my theory, she meets Steven Boxleitner when she saved the distracted scientist from nearly getting hit by a truck. Teresa does become a hero in this au after hearing about Steven's theories and analysis about heroes and villains. Her hero name is Wordwoman because of her love of words. Steven knows about Teresa's powers because she asked for his help in using them and controlling them. Steven respected her decision not to tell her family, he still believes she should tell them and that they will still love her regardless. The Botsfords love Steven. Teresa was a bridesmaid at her siblings wedding and Tim and Sally were part of her wedding party when she married Steven. In this au Teresa does become pregnant with Becky before she and Steven marry but Becky is born after the wedding during the early part of Teresa's first trimester. Becky becomes Wordgirl and her mom's partner when she gets older. I haven't decided yet where Steven still becomes Two Brains or not but if he does, it's only minor angst. Teresa during her life has vague flashbacks of her former life but nothing sustains long enough for her to fully recall anything. Her past starts to come back when a certain monkey space pilot crashes to Earth when her daughter is 11 years old. @melodythebunny @drtwobrainsstuff @blueweirdness

Okay I'm v intrigued by Petrol in our Blood and also would love to see what BPD exploration is about 👀
Hello angel!
I answered another ask about Petrol in our Blood here, so you get the BPD ramblings!
This fic is essentially my own process around getting diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and everything else that comes with a mental health diagnosis. I intend largely to use it as a sounding board and might not even post it anywhere but here, but as usual I suspect I may get attached to Sirius like this.
One of my biggest evolving head canons for Sirius Black is that he is a prime example of Borderline Personality Disorder and it really explains and deepens so many actions we see in canon and hear about in our beloved fanon. If anyone is interested I can definitely do a character deep-dive about BPD because I'm passionate about BPD!Sirius.
ANYWAY, snippet below the cut! Trigger warnings for childhood neglect, emotional abuse and therapy, also passing mentions of substance abuse and mental/emotional instability.
“I’ve what?”
Sirius didn’t expect this when James had marched him into therapy a few months prior—after Regulus’ birthday and his meltdown there. True, he acknowledged he had issues, he always had done, was always eager after a few whiskeys to tell his life story to strangers, but he didn’t think it was the kind of thing he’d be here for. His head was spinning, his skin crawling. Having some kind of rubber stamp labelling him as a nutter wasn’t his kind of bag—he could hear his mother’s voice in the back of his head, touting good grades and bad behaviour, of being a Black, of letting her down.
I didn’t get a chance to go to University, Sirius. I didn’t get a chance to do any of this and you will not throw away all the good things your father and I have provided for you. Do not do this to me.
He never wanted for anything, as the son of a wealthy politician living in the middle of London with a scholarship straight to Oxford landed in his lap at sixteen. Sirius didn’t think any of his childhood precluded any of this: he was never physically abused, never sent away from dinner or grounded or had his credit card taken away. He wasn’t an ‘abused’ kid, period.
“Borderline Personality Disorder, Sirius,” Minerva said softly. She was a middle aged woman with salt and pepper hair; any other person with her appearance might remind Sirius of his mother, but Minerva had a comfort about her that Mother wouldn’t be caught dead with. Sirius found peace in her walnut-panelled office like nowhere else; he would start feet on the floor, sitting straight like dinner with the family, but he always finished the session tucked into the corner of the Chesterfield with his chin propped on his palm.
“I don’t believe you,” Sirius told her, arms crossing over his chest. “I’m fine. I don’t see things or hear voices or—or any of that stuff.”
Minerva took off her wire-framed glasses and set them on the arm of her chair. “Feel free not to believe me, Sirius, but we’ve talked about this, and I’ve talked with Dr. Pomfrey.”
Sirius slumped and rubbed his hand up his jaw and cheek. He thought back to all the things he, Minerva and Pomona had discussed over the past six months, all the revelations he had sat with after sessions. How he didn’t remember most of his childhood, barely anything of his younger brother besides his gravestone, how he’d used alcohol as a crutch since he was a teenager and those reoccurring episodes of screaming, yawning emptiness.

😨 FEARFUL; 🌺 HIBISCUS; 🌌 MILKY WAY; 🙊 SPEAK-NO-EVIL; 🪤 MOUSE TRAP;
👑 CROWN
Character asks for @a-pirate 💕💕
😨: When scared, do they go into “flight” or “fight”?
Depends on the situation. If it only impacts him, flight is usually the easier of the two options--it gets him out of danger more quickly, and if he can remove himself from a situation without risk of inury to himself, that'll be the option he prefers. But if it comes to keeping others safe, fight will be his first instinct, especially if it's a threat that can be solely handled by him. Flight is reserved for a fight he knows he's going to lose, and someone else's safety comes above preserving some sort of diginity or moral compass. And then he can regroup and hit the problem from a different angle, or even just come back at it with better backup. Fear isn't something that Hiro likes to acknowledge, even in private--he sees it as something that people take advantage of, especially in Night City, and tries to seem unbothered on the surface, but even he has things that get under his skin.
🌺: Do they have any allergies?
It's not an allergy but he's lactose intolerant. That seldom stops him, and he'd sooner just suffer through his coffee than give up having real milk or cream in it. Same goes for chocolate or any sort of pasty, he sees the inevitable stomachache as worth it. He could probably take meds to make it less unpleasant but he usually forgets, or just doesn't want to spend the money on them.
🌌: What was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?
Hiro was inspired after I watched Bladerunner for the first time. I'd never been much into sci-fi or cyberpunk as a genre, and it was part of what opened my eyes to the world. Hiro started as an OC that was supposed to fit into a fictional world I'd created, and ofc had grand, dramatic plans for. Well, the story never stuck, but Hiro did, and eventually I modified him to fit into Cyberpunk 2077, and his background started to develop to better fit the game.
I knew I wanted a character who felt like a movie protagonist--determined, stubborn, and maybe a little hot-headed. Who perhaps wasn't perfect and made reckless decisions but meant well. Hiro's name was the first thing that was decided--I like mono-syllabic names and Hiro had a nice ring to it/just felt right. I decided on his appearance soon after, and knew I wanted a character with a lot of tattoos, although they started out as more generically sci-fi, and not the Tyger Claws tattoos he has today. His body-shape was also quite different in the beginning, better suited for stealth and sneaking than his current one. But after playing cyberpunk and going the melee route, I figured he'd need to bulk up a little, to better support my playstyle, and his internal cybernetics, and his current iteration was created.
🪤: What will always lure them into certain danger? a loved one in danger? a promise of something they are always searching for?
A loved one in danger is enough to lure Hiro into a trap without a second thought, even if something that should make him hesitate, seems off from the start. He's made enough enemies, and it's no question that a great deal of them wouldn't think twice about harming a loved one, or friend to get to him. He won't stop until they're safe and out of harms way, even if that means putting himself at risk to make sure that happens. Hiro's the type to act first, and think later, even if it's not always the wisest approach.
👑: What does your oc want to be remembered as? why?
It's seldom something he thinks about. Hiro's not the type to worry about a legacy. But he's not out for glory, or any sort of recognition. He wants to live comfortably, and spend the time doing things he enjoys, and would like to have the means to do so. Going out in a blaze of glory? Nah--leave that to the others. He's gonna stay alive, even if that means he might never have some high-profile fixer gig. He knows he's not ruthless enough for it--can't imagine being like Wakako or Rogue, and doesn't necessarily want to be them either. Being successful would be surviving, despite Night City's best efforts and finding his own personal happiness.
💌: Do they like love letters? what kind of messages do they leave for their partner?
Love letters aren't something he's accustomed to. But they'd be enough to catch him genuinely off-guard. He's no stranger to flirting, or sleeping around, but emotions, and declarations of love aren't his strength. It's not to say they aren't appreciated, or cherished but they make him panic a little, and he doesn't quite know what to do about them. That being said, he's not opposed to leaving little notes for a partner, and is better at doing that then saying something out loud. His handwriting is pretty messy, so he'll leave little notes of chicken scratch, if he's nervous about saying something out loud, whether it's hoping that they have a good day, or letting them know there's a coffee and something sweet waiting for them when they get home.
🙊: What is something your oc will refuse to stay quiet about?
(sticking this one under a spoiler, just in case.)
Hiro spent the better part of his years with the Claws as a joytoy, and it's something he can't help but speak out about. There's this view of them as disposable and it's one of the things that gets him so angry, just how many people are ignored, or the false sympathy--people who pretend to eschew the whole endevour, and then hire them on the side, or behind closed doors. The double standard has never been something he's looked kindly at. So any sort of badmouthing is a really quick way to get on his bad side, and he's not the type to keep silent on the mattter. He spent long enough as part of a statistic, or an invisible population, and he's not one to shy away from discussing that, or calling someone else's behavior out.

my friends make fun of me for writing fanfiction. they make fun of me for liking MCR and FOB and emo rock bands from the late 90's and 2000's. I rarely make fun of them for their music tastes or what they watch and shit. there's literally like three friends who don't do that because we're all emo but.
I don't understand why most of my friends decide that it's their business to judge me for what I like. Why they judge me for shit that makes me happy. Why they make fun of me for writing fanfic. Sometimes their judgement gets in my head and just. I wish they would stop but they won't and it upsets me to every degree.
Yes, I write fanfic. What else am I supposed to do? I live way out in the boonies, most of my friends are in different grades, and I'm an only child. Not to mention I'm a trans bi dude. Most of the kids at my school are assholes and don't give two shits about me or the minorities I'm in. I have ADHD and anxiety and depression. I often feel alone so I write or I draw and it just. it helps so much. My therapist says it's healthy.
Why do people think it's any of their business or that they have the right to judge me when most of the time I want to be left alone. because of them. I've spent almost 17 years caring what people think but. it doesn't matter.
If you're going to judge me for my coping mechanisms, fuck off. this is the healthiest thing for me right now. I'm not doing drugs, I'm not drinking alcohol, I'm not having copious amounts of sex. I'm watching myself and finding my limits and shit.
stop inserting your negative opinions into my life because I really don't care. stop projecting your shit onto me. deal with your own goddamn issues. if you want my help and/or advice, I'll give it to you. but don't tear me down because you feel shitty about yourself.
I'm fucked up, I've been fucked up by people I cared about. I'm trying to heal and I am healing. let me learn how to be happy again.

“What can I do?” [To Claire from Sean
Claire feels very small, and very scared. She can't pinpoint exactly what triggered this, but probably had something to do with the demon they'd been hunting. It looked at her and then it laughed. Taunted her about her mother's death. Her father's disappearance. Her own status as an angel vessel. The trace of Castiel's grace left in her soul.
All of the things she tries, daily, to keep from thinking about. All of the grief and loss she tries to turn into anger so she doesn't break. But it's too close now, and she sits on her dingy motel bed, hugging her knees and not crying.
Sean sits on his bed, watching her in that way he has. Like he sees her for who she is, all her damage laid out for him to see. No judgment, though. No trying to heal her. She appreciates that about him. So many have tried to fix her and only hurt her worse. Only Sean and Sophie fully accept her as she is.
And only Sean is here right now, Sophie off on one of her solo adventures. It would be easy to talk to Sophie; they would lay in bed and talk quietly until Claire felt less shattered. And Soph would sleep with her, knowing grr closeness was a comfort. But Sean-- she couldn't ask that of him. She barely knows him.
But she trusts him.
So she turns her head to him, resting her cheek on her knees. Her eyes are glittering with unshed tears. She takes a ragged breath. Blinks.
"Talk to me," she says, voice so small. A child's voice. "Tell me... anything. Your favorite movie. Please."

There’s something so important about Gillion - who never heals himself, who rushes into danger, who hides his wounds- facing death and realizing he isn’t unafraid as he was raised to be. He uses his magic on himself to help with the exhaustion, to keep his life intact. And still he tries to comfort Jay and Chip while he’s coherent, being realistic about his chances but refusing to make it painful. Wanting their possible last moments to be light, to be about seemingly inconsequential things, small favorites that still mean the world to him purely because they’re Chip and Jay’s favorites. And then when all is said and done, he makes a raccoon for Jay. He talks about raspberries for Chip. He uses his last saved up arcane energy to try desperately to stay awake, and it works, and it saves him in the final hour.
It’s just. There’s something about how he hasn’t had a chance to rest since the Feywild, really, truly rest. How this whole time he’s been down on himself and taking extreme risks. And now, at what might be the end of it all, he realizes he doesn’t want to die. He wants to live. And not to be able to save others, not to fulfill his destiny, not out of obligation to anyone else - but purely for himself. For all the little things. And though it’s not quite healing in the literal term, his nearly final act was spent trying to save himself - and it worked.

I don't know if you like Angst but if you do I was thinking of Mario hurting his leg and just laying in bed upset, that he can't do much then he starts getting anxiety attacks out of nowhere as shadow figures surround him. A lot of people tried to hurt him and Luigi. Saying terrible things to him but it all goes away after Peach, Luigi, or Dk comfort him after finding him covered in flames from the anxiety.
Can someone tell me why DK is so satisfying to draw??
Tw: blood and injury, as well as anxiety

The Fall of Fair City - Chapter 17
"Oh really." Two Brains spoke with genuine surprise. He didn't really expect Becky to find anything immediately. Not because he had no faith in her skills. He honestly thought he was just made the fall guy because he was there and The Learnerer was already in prison. Becky nodded with determination. "Mhmm. I went over to the building to talk to the owners and the police commissioner was there along with Mrs. Botsford. I tried to convince them that there was no evidence nor any possible motivation for you to destroy the gadgets, but only Mrs. Botsford was one my side." Becky crossed her arms with an annoyed frowned. "They all thought I was "too young and naive" to fully understand how "dangerous" of a threat you actually were." Dr. Two Brains frowned, sympathetic and upset she was put down like that for trying to defend his character. "Look kiddo. Thank you for trying. You really didn't have to go that far for me. The people of this city would have forgotten or moved on in a few days. It's no big deal for me." Two Brains tried reassuring his daughter. "But dad this is a big deal." Becky exclaimed, causing Two Brains to look confused and surprised. "Huh?" he stated aloud. "Dr. Corngraves is the one who made you out to be the scapegoat. I think he has been hiding stuff and being very secretive about his true work I talked with Professor Tubing who used Bosco to get Bob and my own attention. He had stumbled onto a file that implicates Dr. Corngraves not only of plagiarism, but also potential sabotage of other scientists' works that were in that storage unit." Dr. Two Brains now looked really invested and intrigued. "Okay but if that wanted to keep such a tight lip on what he did, why did he still say I did it?" Becky once again hesitated, looking apprehensive as she seemed to be trying to pick her next words carefully. Dr. Two Brains looked at his daughter with worry and was about to ask what was wrong before she finally spoke up. "Okay, so do you remember that machine that blasted you yesterday?" Two Brains nodded solemnly. Becky took a deep breath before continuing. "Well according to Professor Tubing, Dr. Corngraves claimed to have built that machine. It was actually in far worse damage than the other gadgets in that storage unit which made it look like the machine was targeted and someone wanted the police to think that the unit was destroyed out of chaotic reasons, that there no specific targets. Well Professor Tubing found some photos and files which he took pictures of in a folder belonging to Dr. Corngraves. One of those photos was of the original blueprints of the machine. There was a signature on one of the bottom corners of the blueprints that showed that someone by the name of Dr. Brandon Boxleitner created the machine, not Dr. Corngraves." Two Brains couldn't help but give a small gasp at the name he had not heard of in such a long time. He soon felt an invisible force squeezing around his heart and lungs as he lifted a hand over his chest area. Becky and Bob could see the look of pure fear flash in the scientist's eyes. They both gazed at each other with worry and concern before Becky faced her dad again. "Dad. Who is Brendan Boxleitner?" Becky asked with sympathetic concern. Dr. Two Brains tried to shake off his daughter's worries as he attempted to steady the pounding of his heart. "He's none of your concern kiddo. Just a relative that we don't talk about anymore." Two Brains replied, albeit a bit shakily. Becky wasn't satisfied with her dad's response. "Why hasn't anyone mentioned him before? What did he do?" Becky pressed on. Dr. Two Brains eyes darted rapidly as his body was under immense pressure and sweat. He needed to find some emergency cheese to calm him down. Sadly there was none available out in the open. "Look Becky, you don't need to be concerned about that man. Just drop it will you." Two Brains asked, becoming very agitated with his daughter's well meaning, but invasive questions. "I just can't drop it dad." Becky spoke with exasperation. @melodythebunny @dualnaturedscientist

Ink Dandelions
Ruggie agrees to what he thinks is just a fun outing with Yuu before everyone comes back from break and vies for their attention, but as he should expect when it comes to them, things end up more complicated than he bargained for.
TW: Tattoos and getting tattoos, mention of past trauma, mention of past violence, mention of scars, mention of nightmares, mention of asphyxiation/snakebites, mention of intentional violence, possessive thoughts.
A/N: MONTHS. THIS TOOK MONTHS TO WRITE. I really really really wanted to write this concept, I really really really wanted Ruggie to have his time to shine, to show it's not just the OB boys and Housewardens who are affected by this Yuu, but COHESIVENESS man gets me everytime :'(
"Where are we going exactly? Because I remember something about donuts, and this is not the way to the donut stall."
"I know, and I will get you those donuts, but after my appointment. This place doesn't allow any food or drink, besides water, for the clients."
"So explain to me why exactly I had to be the one to come with you then? Don't you have your pet cat and that card duo to drag along on your errands? I already gotta play errand boy for Leona, what's in it for me?"
There's a way Yuu will look at people, this intense look in their eye that he's never been able to quite pin down before. They're not looking through you, it's different than the way somebody like Floyd or Riddle might look at you, like you're not even there. And Yuu's stare isn't invasive either, not intentionally at least, no Ruggie is well aware of what that looks and feels like. There are too many guys at NRC that have perfected that calculating, dissecting gaze of looking into you, of being able to find your every flaw with just a heavy look. (He sees it enough on his own Dormleader's face.)
Yuu levels him with their unique, flustering, soul-searching look right there on the street corner. They're quiet as they wait for the signal that it's safe for them to cross, seemingly giving his sarcastic question some serious thought. It makes him squirm, makes his skin itch in an unfamiliar way, makes his ears flick and his tail twitch and it's not unpleasant, particularly, but it's different and he's about to say something taunting and probably rude just to get the Prefect to stop looking at him like that and -
Suddenly they're wrapping their hand around his own, gentle but firm as they finally turn away and tug him across the intersection. He thinks they're just going to ignore his earlier jabs, and that's fine, there was nothing serious behind them in the first place. Leona hasn't come back from break yet, and Ruggie had just returned yesterday, so as long as they held true to their promise of sugary delights, the hyena really didn't have any other plans today.
"I think you're the only one in all of NRC who will actually understand why I have this appointment. And if you decide you want it too, then I'm more than happy to pay for yours." They aren't looking at him, eyeing a nondescript storefront that they are determinedly dragging him towards. But their voice is somber, serious in a way he's really only heard inside the confines of the school infirmary. It makes him reach for his elbow, fingers tracing the scar he tried very hard to hide from his family over the break.
They catch the movement, he knows they do. But instead of commenting, they push inside the shop, letting him go once he's passed the threshold so they can approach the person at the reception desk. And Ruggie is left standing there, thinking to himself that this must be what whiplash feels like, because the stark difference between slipping into a slow spiral of complicated memories and baffled bewilderment is absolutely wild.
This is not where he thought the Ramshackle Prefect would be taking him today.
The tattoo shop is warm and cozy, surprisingly enough. Almost every inch of the waiting area up front is covered in tattoo designs. There's art in every different style known to man. From small, modern, simple designs to some massive traditional pieces he'd see back in the slums of the Sunset Savanah to everything in between from every corner of Twisted Wonderland. Ruggie is pulled back from his admiration for the art by the conversation brewing between the Prefect and the tattoo artist leading them to the back, Yuu waving at him to follow along.
"This is gonna be the last one right? I shouldn't have to see you in here again after we finish up this piece, correct?"
"Wow, okay, I see how it is, already sick of me huh?"
"Nah, of course not, you're one of my favorite customers. Some of my favorite art to walk out that door too. But considering exactly why you've enlisted my services, yeah, I want this to be the last one."
Ruggie feels like he's having an out-of-body experience. Sure, he can still feel the shop around him, too many predator instincts ingrained in his DNA to truly lose all his faculties. But as the artist and Yuu keep talking in that weirdly professionally intimate way, he feels his mouth go dry and his limbs lock up. And as Yuu takes off their overly thick turtleneck, revealing the tank underneath, it feels as if the world slows down to a syrupy crawl, like his head is dipped underwater and the only thing solid and real in this new world of his is the expanse of the Prefect's skin that he's now faced with.
Ruggie was there for Azul's Overblot. True he passed out before the fight had ended, but he dimly remembers seeing the cephalopod's tentacles wrap around Yuu's neck and squeeze. (He wakes up in cold sweats some mornings, trying to gulp down as much oxygen as possible when his nightmares decide to play around with that particularly traumatizing experience.) So there's a part of him that flinches, hard, when he sees the tentacles that are inked into the Prefect's skin. They wrap around their neck the same way the Octavinille's housewarden did, although these ones are more stylized than the real thing, purples and lilacs and oil-slick blacks creating a haunting effect on their skin. The suckers look a little more raised than the rest of the artwork, but otherwise, it's a gorgeous piece of work. Makes him less nauseous to see that than the old, awful bruising that used to decorate Yuu's collarbone.
It's the piece of artwork on their right shoulder that cause a ball of anxiety to develop in Ruggie's chest. Sure, the stark reminder of that day in Octavinille isn't exactly pleasant, and seeing the pottery-crack scar on their left shoulder always fills Ruggie with a complicated concoction of emotions, but he knows about those events, he was there for them. He'd seen the damage firsthand for both, helped them with their bandages for both occasions, shared one of those scars with them. But if they are getting tattoos as reminders of the events that left them scarred so far this year, which Ruggie is inclined to believe is the case as he watches the artist prep the area surrounding Leona's mark, then what happened to them over the winter break?
Slithering up the Prefect's right shoulderblade is the tail of a snake, burnt oranges and blood reds and coopery bronze scales climb the snake in an almost hypnotic pattern. They turn, and he can see that the head of the snake rests on the front of their shoulder, fangs poised over two holes just to the right of where their collarbone meets the shoulder. Its hood is flared, and the cobra's garnet-red eyes seem to follow you, daring people to come close lest its fangs end up embedded in them. It's an incredibly detailed and realistic piece, the snake leaving shadows along Yuu's skin and the fangs actually looking like they've... pierced... skin...
"Did you get bitten by a snake??!!"
"Yes, and?"
"What do you mean 'and?'?? When? Why? How?"
And as the Prefect settles down in the chair, they tell him.
-------
Ruggie has spent the past hour in silence, processing everything Yuu told him, watching their newest tattoo bloom to life on their skin, trying to force the nausea to leave his system. At first, he thought Yuu's near-death experience was his main cause of discomfort, and don't get him wrong, it did bother him. Incredibly so.
But the longer they sat there under the tattoo gun, the pissier he became.
It's not like this new tattoo was ugly or anything. In fact, it was gorgeous, something that would make him salivate in any other situation. It was done in the traditional Sunset Savanna style, harsh lines and bold swirls, matte black lines creating an intricate design across their left shoulder. He spent the past hour watching the cracked, jagged lines of Leona's scar disappear beneath a complicated geometric pattern. When he realizes they've replaced the mark of a lion with a massive inked lion head, something in him snarls.
"It's a reminder, not a claim."
"... I don't know why you think you need to explain. 'Aint got nothin' to do with me."
"It's a reminder. It's a reminder I choose, something I have control over. There's no magic in existence that can heal the scars left behind from an Overblot, these are scars I'm stuck with for the rest of my life and I had no choice in it. These are my choice. And I chose to swap the scar tissue for a lion so nobody, especially the person who hurt me could forget it."
Well, now Ruggie feels bad. A little. He gets it, probably the only person on campus who can get it, but that doesn't quell the possessive urge inside of him that's furious with the Prefect for doing... something. He's not quite sure what exactly about this whole situation that's got him so upset.
He grabs his elbow, as the artist paints glimmering gold for the lion's facial features, stuck in his own messy, complicated feelings from that messy, complicated day. Leona is one of his closest relationships, a weird mess of a balance between friend and servant, equal and lesser. Their relationship has always been about mutual benefits, symbiotic always, platonic sometimes. And Ruggie can’t even look at his arm because it reminds him that there was a moment, before Leona Overblotted, before you can write it all off as something done under magical insanity, a moment where Leona actively tried to hurt him, actively and intentionally tried to maim him. And Ruggie is still bitter about it, still brings it up occasionally to inflict some of the complicated hurt on Leona that he still feels, but Ruggie is also exhausted and tired and wants to move on.
He looks up and Yuu has him pinned with that pleasantly infuriating look again, like they can read every thought he's currently having and every thought he's ever had and every thought he could have in the future. And it makes him feel so incredibly seen, but right now while he's drowning in such an emotional internal shit show, he wants nothing more than for them to stop looking at him. He's too vulnerable like this, too on the edge, too irrationally mad.
"I think you should get a coverup tattoo."
"I think you're projecting your emotional bullshit."
....
"What would I even get, huh? No way in hell I'm getting a matching tat."
"I think you should get a Dandelion."
....
"I don’t know, I just don’t feel like you should let Leona have such a physical claim over you. Like, turn this thing that he did to you, this mark he gave you, and make it into something that’s yours. Your flower, your mark, your body, you know?"
And it's not a bad idea, not at all, but it does nothing to satisfy the feral thing that's been pacing in his chest, snarling and chomping at the bit during this whole stupid endeavor.
"Besides, we can say we've got matching flower tattoos!"
If anyone ever doubted Ruggie's predatory status, they should've seen the way he fucking locked onto the Prefect's newly revealed thigh. He was so intently taking in the vine of roses circling their left leg, a constricting band of blood red and bone white roses, vivid green leaves and night black thorns, so intent was he that he almost missed how his disquiet had quieted, calmed and placated.
Oh. Oh, that's what was bothering him.
Because he’d been watching the tattoo come to life and a part of him had died a little inside with every stroke of ink but he couldn’t figure out why. But it turns out he’d always thought of the scar as a sorta good thing, a little bit, in the very back of his head. Because Yuu had the same scar, and it tied them together. And when Yuu erased their scar (for very valid reasons he knows this) they erased the connection they shared with him. Erased their connection and replaced it with something connecting them to Leona of all people.
But instead, he can now have this with them, something they both choose to happen to them. In this cozy, tucked-away store on the far side of town, they can have this tie, and Ruggie really, really likes that idea.

“I,” He raises a hand, barely touching the edge of the slightly mismatched part of your skull headcasing, “I like your patch here. Makes you look a little more like... you.”
He chuckled, a funny suppressed cackle, as he pulls his hand away, and you silently congratulate yourself on not shrinking away from his claws- hands- being so close to your face. The laugh is a little awkward, maybe forced, but you appreciate the effort.
And you know that he means that it makes you apart from the rest of the Staffbots. You weren’t meant to be memorable, so you used to look as carbon-copied as the others, but now you had the section of your headcasing welded on that was tinted a slightly different color. You knew he was right- it was, at least, one thing that could be used to pick you out of a crowd of other bots made of the same parts as you. You tried to look at him directly, and couldn’t quite manage it.
You wondered, if you had a voice with which to speak, you would have told him that he was the one that gave you that patch. Or... caused you to need it, maybe.
As it was, you just nodded, giving a shuddery, static warble that went up and down quickly in cadence- an attempt at mimicking the sound a laugh would make- and moved your shoulders in time with the sound. He seemed pleased at the positive response, eyes brightening slightly. He looked a little like Sun like that, you thought.
You tried, tried so hard, to push away the looping memory file of Moon pinning you in a closet a lot like this one and pulling a handful of wires out of your shoulder so your arm hung limp and useless, with the sound of his laughter repeated and repeated and repeated like a broken record skipping on the worst part of a song as a backdrop to the clearest of retained experiences.
You knew it wouldn’t work.

You tried anyway.
He said something else, and laughed a little again. His laugh was different than how it was back then. You clung to that knowledge, nodding to whatever he had said. This boosted him again, and you focused on the parts of him that were different than the ones in your memory.
His laugh was different. So was his manner of speaking. Even the way that he moved had become less rigid and jerky, though now at times it seemed unsure. You watched one of his hands as he described something, as expressive and mobile as a humans. You tried to keep your focus on the him that was here, and not the one in your head.
Of course it wouldn’t be so easy, but...
