So there’s always been this nagging thought in my head about wands in the Harry Potter universe: what’s the deal with customized wands? I know that it’s a marketing ploy to sell merch in the real world, but is there an in universe explanation for them? Because in the first movie when Harry is testing wands at Ollivander’s, they all look the same, yet then we get all these distinct looking wands for all the “important” characters. Like is that something the owner has to do themselves in their free time? Are their like shops for “wand paint” or “carving tools” to customize your wand how you want it?

I would say Hermione enjoys reading books, but she is also very happy with her workplace, and enjoys doing people justice. Other than that I think she really enjoys a butterbeer after a long day of work, or a coffee.

I find that she would enjoy amusement parks, even though she would find them dangerous too. Maybe it's the thrill?

De l'influence des RPG sur les PAL

J'ai commencé les RPG il y a 18 ans. Et forcée de constater que les forums qui m'ont le plus marqués m'ont aussi ouvert la voie de la lecture, de romans, de saga, de série que j'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à dévorer. De Twilight à Harry Potter (j'avais les livres depuis longtemps mais c'est en jouant sur un rpg HP que j'ai décidé de les lire), en passant par Hunger Games, ou Eragon, les forums RPG ont toujours influencé ma Pile A Lire pour me plonger dans des univers toujours plus fantastiques et magiques.

Ma bibliothèque est bien remplie, mais je me rends compte que les livres que j'apprécie le plus - encore aujourd'hui - ce sont ceux qui ont un potentiel de role play. S'il est de plus en plus difficile de voir des forums émerger sur des nouvelles idées, il m'est aussi de plus en plus difficile de me plonger dans de nouveaux bouquins.

Alors j'envoie cette bouteille à la mer, espérant voir ma PAL s'agrandir encore, et - peut être - des forums s'inspirer de nouveaux univers prochainement :

Hcs on their birthdays and how would they celebrate?

4town member’s birthdays/how they celebrate headcanons!!

Idk if you wanted me to put what days their birthdays are but I’m doing it anyway lol. (These are just my personal hc’s for their birthdays and how old they are).

Also coincidentally, it was my birthday (December 4) when I started this lol

Robaire: August 8, 19 years old. Robaire’s birthday is towards the end of summer, and one of his favorite things to do when they have time is to go camping or have an outdoor adventure, so for his birthday he likes to spend the day somewhere really woodsy and pretty with the other members. Typically, he isn’t the one who chooses where they go for his birthday though. Usually they will tell him they’re going somewhere and have him get in the passenger’s seat of the car, and Jesse will drive them all to one of Robaire’s favorite places as a surprise. Tae will bake him a cake and they will get takeout from his favorite restaurant before they get there. When they get there, they will spend the entire day doing all of his favorite things like swimming, watching the sunset, and having a campfire. They take a lot of Polaroids of each other. Robaire takes a lot of the other members but then they force him to be in all the pictures so they take turns taking them. When they get back home, they will play board games and watch movies until they get too tired. Robaire always gets kind of emo at the end of the night and thanks them all for planning it out and caring so much and he gives them each a big hug.

Jesse: June 28, 26 years old. Jesse doesn’t really care or have any expectations for his birthday, but the other members make sure he has the best day he possibly could on his birthday. To play into the dad joke (but also just to be sweet), they all get up really early and make a super elaborate breakfast and then surprise him with breakfast in bed. But then he says “ok I’m not THAT old” and he gets up and goes to the table because he wants to eat breakfast with all of the other members. Then for dinner they get a booth at his favorite restaurant (it’s never fancy restaurants) and they talk and goof off the whole time. Later, they throw their own little nighttime pool party and Tae brings out the cake he made for Jesse (he does this on all of their birthdays) and they all sit on the edge of the pool and eat it, and everything is all lit up and pretty. After they digest their food they go swimming and hang out. After they’re all showered and dried off, they all snuggle up on the couch and watch his favorite movies (probably a Star Wars marathon lol). Jesse, like Robaire, gets kind of emo as they’re all laying on the couch because it feels like he is a child again, and he’s really grateful to be surrounded by his favorite people, and he lets them know that.

Tae Young - April 14, 18 years old. On the night before his birthday, after Tae goes to bed, the other members team up and bake the best cake they can possibly make. They’re all pretty good at baking, especially Robaire, so it always turns out good, and they are all really meticulous about decorating it, because they want it to be perfect since Tae isn’t baking a cake for his birthday. He typically doesn’t want to do anything huge for his birthday, so they usually kind of just stay at home and hang out at the pool and get takeout from his favorite restaurant for dinner, then eat the cake. Afterwards, when it’s dark out, they all get in the car. T is the one driving which is kind of rare, usually when they’re all going somewhere Robaire or Jesse are the ones who drive, but they want it to be more fun and memorable, so they let T drive and Tae sit in the passenger’s seat, which is a combination that is not usually allowed. They don’t go anywhere in particular, they will just drive for like an hour and get ice cream from a drive-thru and talk and laugh and blast Tae’s favorite music the whole time. Later, they have a Harry Potter movie marathon and eat a bunch of Harry Potter themed snacks (modern universe). Tae thanks them for everything and gives them all hugs, then they likely end up falling asleep on the couch.

Aaron T - October 1st, 19 years old. T, like Jesse, never expects much for his birthday because he is always thinking so much more about the other members than himself that he almost forgets about his birthday. Z is usually the main planner for T’s birthday because he practically knows him better than T knows himself. T will wake up and go to the kitchen and they’ll tell him to get ready, so he will, and then they get in the car and surprise him by taking him to the beach. He gets really excited but he’s not dressed for the occasion. Luckily, they packed a bunch of stuff for him including swim trunks. Then they spend the whole day swimming and picnicking and watching the sunset. When it gets dark, they have a bonfire. Then they drive home and get his favorite takeout. After they eat, they’ll take him to the skate park and cheer him on like proud moms and they make him show them all of the tricks he’s learned recently. It makes him feel all warm and fuzzy inside because of how much they appreciate him. Then on the car ride home he’s smiling and leaning on Z’s shoulder and thinking about everything they did that day. When they get home, T goes to take a shower and while he’s in the bathroom they make an impressive, gigantic pillow fort and they all put on their matching pjs (the ones I talked about with the t shirts with cute personalized graphics, fuzzy shorts all in pastel versions of each of their favorite colors, and socks) and they lay his out in his room. When he gets out of the shower, he sees them all waiting for him in the pillow fort with their matching pjs so he excitedly runs to his room and puts his matching pjs on too. They eat the cake Tae made in the pillow fort and play video games and watch movies (some horror ones because his birthday is during spooky season) all night long, and T gushes about how grateful he is to have them as friends and immediately he’s in the center of a super tight group hug around him.

Aaron Z - November 10, 19 years old. Z never wants to do anything crazy or specific for his birthday, the only thing he needs is to be surrounded with his best friends, which is never something he needs to worry about. Even though Z never has high expectations for his birthday, T always makes a plan for his birthday to be perfect, which the other members help him come up with. When he gets up in the morning, he never expects a fuss to be made about his birthday, but then when he walks into the kitchen they all yell “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” And he sees a heaping pile of presents on the table and he can feel his heart grow three sizes. All of his presents were really sentimental and heartfelt and it always makes him get a small lump in his throat when he sees how much everyone really cares for him and how they know him so well. They surprise him to take him to the movie theatre, which they rented out just for him, and they watch his favorite movie and get all of his favorite candies and snacks. It kind of shocks him to see how much effort they put into his birthday and it makes him feel really appreciated. Like with the other members, they get his favorite takeout and when they get home, set up blankets in the backyard, and Tae will bring out the cake and they all eat it and look up at the stars and talk the whole time. They always get him a bunch of new video games, so him and T will play them while the other members attentively watch and cheer them on. After they’re done playing video games, they put on one of Z’s comfort movies and snuggle up on the couch, and Z goes on his whole “I love you guys” ramble, and, just like with the other members, he gets bear hugged by all of them. It’s practically unspoken that he will sleep in T’s room especially since its his birthday, so when it’s bedtime, Z will continue his “I love you” ramble to T about how grateful he is for making his birthday perfect and how glad he is to have him as a friend and blah blah blah, which makes T smile and pull him into a hug.

La fascination pour cet animal mythique, issu d'un univers invisible, n'est pas nouvelle. Mais que notre société matérialiste et athée lui consacre une journée mondiale est surprenant. Peut-on y voir un désir de merveilleux, de magie, voire une aspiration au spirituel ? Pline l'Ancien, dans son "Histoire naturelle", décrit la licorne arborant une unique corne noire de deux coudées de long au milieu du front, insistant sur le fait qu'elle ne pouvait être capturée vivante. Des figures telles qu'Hérodote, Élien et Aristote ont également mentionné cet animal, sans oublier l'historien grec Ctésias (Ve-IVe siècle av. J.-C.) qui, dans ses écrits sur l'Inde, évoquait l'existence d'un animal sauvage semblable à un cheval, avec une corne frontale aux propriétés thérapeutiques remarquables, affirmant que boire dans cette corne garantissait une immunité contre les maladies et les poisons, un concept repris dans l'univers de "Harry Potter" où Voldemort consomme du sang de licorne pour survivre. La licorne, convoité pour ses vertus médicinales légendaires, ne pouvant être approchée que par une vierge ; les chasseurs laissent une jeune fille vierge seule au milieu d'une clairière, se cachent non loin et, quand l'animal découvre la jeune fille, s'approche d'elle, pose sa tête sur son giron et s'endort, ils se précipitent sur lui pour s'en saisir. Certains voient dans cette scène de chasse à la licorne une allusion à l'arrestation de Jésus-Christ et à sa Passion. La licorne est pour la religion chrétienne un symbole de pureté et de chasteté, sa corne unique, symbole de puissance représenterait l'incarnation du Verbe de Dieu dans le sein de la Vierge. Aujourd'hui la licorne représente l'extraordinaire et l'exclusivité ; depuis les années 1970 elle est aussi emblématique du mouvement LGBT pour son association avec l'arc-en-ciel, symbole de diversité repris par le drapeau LGBT. Par extension, le terme "licorne" désigne maintenant des entreprises de la Silicon Valley valant plus d'un milliard de dollars, des sportifs aux talents uniques ou des journalistes polyvalents. Peut être que cette appellation souligne la capacité à embrasser le fantastique, à suspendre notre incrédulité et à rechercher au-delà des preuves tangibles, symbolisant ainsi un refuge rassurant, un regret de l'innocence perdue et une aspiration vers un imaginaire éthéré et insaisissable. Quoiqu'il en soit emportons la licorne cette nuit dans notre coeur et nos pensées... nos rêves n'en seront que plus lumineux et guérisseurs. REVELIO 

Hogwarts Legacy: L’héritage de Poudlard, jeu développé par Avalanche Studio, connu pour sa série de jeux Disney Infinity, sort cette année pour répondre aux promesses non tenues de la saga Harry Potter. Car il faut l’avouer, les jeux de cet univers ne sont pas mémorables.  Nous commençons donc l’histoire environ un siècle avant l’enfant connu à la cicatrice en forme d’éclair. Notre protagoniste peut aller dans la maison Poudlard de son choix. Il ou elle apprend qu’une magie ancestrale et puissante gronde en lui/elle. On va faire copain-copain avec un professeur du château afin de déjouer le plan d’un gobelin avide de pouvoir. 

BIS REPETITUS    Le gameplay du jeu est fluide et dynamique. Pas le temps de niaiser ou de marcher aussi calmement que dans un GTA. Il y a tellement de lieux à découvrir et d’activités à faire que on en oublie même de s’attarder sur la beauté des paysages et architectures. Malgré un effort pour donner une durée de vie au jeu justifiant 80$ à l’achat, l’aventure se transforme en “un jour sans fin”.  Si comme moi vous êtes chasseur de trophées, ça va être une longue expérience. Redondante. Rapidement limitée. Jusqu’à ne plus pouvoir entendre pour le reste de votre vie l’incantation “revelio”.  Pour les amoureux du Quidditch vous attendrez le prochain Harry Potter : Quidditch Champions. Dans Legacy on a droit qu’à quelques défis de vitesse pour te donner l’impression d’un univers totalement immersif. Warner Bros. sait comment remplir le portefeuille.  En dehors du fait que le Quidditch soit absent du jeu, pour que ton balai te serve de monture et se traine la patte dans les airs, on ne saurait dire ce qu’il manque à ce jeu après 7-10h de gameplay.  L’univers est vraiment respecté : Sorciers, gobelins, animaux fantastiques, décors, ambiance, costumes. Tout nous aide à se laisser transporter dans ce monde et savourer chaque instant de jeu. Or, un sentiment de manque s’installe au fur et à mesure qu’on avance dans l’histoire. Comme si on nous avait préparer le plus magnifique des gâteaux, mais que sa manquait tout de même de sucre.   

UN POUDLARD SECONDAIRE   

Après l’introduction du jeu, vous partirez directement à Poudlard. L’action s’y attarde les premières heures du jeu. Puis à vous de découvrir les secrets de Pré-au-lard et ses alentours. Ainsi que des régions inventer et plausibles à ce que pourrait ressembler les paysages voisins du célèbre château. Génial me direz-vous. Oui mais le titre du jeu perd un peu tout son sens quand on se rend compte qu’on passe plus de temps à des kilomètres de Poudlard, que dans Poudlard lui-même. J’espère que vous aimez la forêt interdite, parce que vous allez en faire des randonnées. Vous passerez le plus clair de votre temps à visiter des grottes, résoudre les épreuves de Merlin et essayer de trouver tous les objets de collection répartis sur le monde du jeu.    

DES ANIMAUX FANTASTIQUES 

L’un des points importants du titre sont bien évidemment la cueillette aux créatures. Avec une salle sur demande à embellir, il vous faudra récupérer à un moment de l’histoire toutes les bestioles possibles. L’hippogriffe remplacera votre balai de vol. Bien qu’il n’aille pas plus vite, malheureusement. Les rares phases avec le Grapcorne seront tout de même appréciables. Pour le reste, j’espère que vous n’êtes pas arachnophobe comme moi parce qu’il y en a des araignées !   Une multitude de créatures disponible dans le jeu mais peu d’intérêts pour autant. Elles sont présentes juste pour combler l’histoire de quelques quêtes secondaires. Mais d’un autre coté heureusement. Parce que si on avait voulu concentrer le jeu sur elles, on l’aurait nommé autrement. 

ACCIO 

Hogwarts Legacy est un très bon jeu. Les graphismes sont très beaux. L’histoire est bien pensée. La musique s'adapte selon où l’on se situe où selon l’action du jeu. Et il y a de l’action un peu partout où l’on va.  Mention spéciale pour la quête secondaire « la boutique hantée de Pré-au-Lard ». On ne s’attend pas du tout à ce style d’aventure. C’est creepy, glauque, mais on en redemande ! Mais la machine perd en puissance quand on a fait la moitié du jeu. Les objectifs sont redondants et un sentiment de lassitude s’installe. On est beaucoup à dire qu’il manque clairement quelques choses à ce titre pour être inoubliable. Et c’est vrai. Certains accusent le manque de Quidditch.  D’autres auraient aimés retrouver le fan-service (bien doser pour le coup) possible pour combler une nostalgie de la saga des films qui a pris fin en 2011. Bien qu’il y ait eu la trilogie Les animaux fantastiques et qu’une série retraçant toute l’histoire d’Harry Potter sera bientôt sur nos écrans.  Les trophées du jeu sont simples à obtenir. Si on ne prend pas en compte le bug des comptabilisations de collection. Qui m’empêche personnellement d’accéder au platine du jeu. Dommage parce qu’il est vrai que pour l’instant, je n’ai pas la force de reprendre l’histoire depuis le début pour finaliser ce jeu.  Ce jeu reste le meilleur proposer à ce jour sur cet univers, et en vue des bénéfices depuis sa sortie, on attend quand même une suite qui saura nous faire comprendre que ce studio de développeur en a sous le coude et pourra élever encore le niveau avec un gameplay et une histoire qui nous tiendra en haleine pendant toute la durée de vie du jeu.
