#update: my girlfriend suggested I break it up into multiple posts

Wondering if I should just cut the note up until multiple posts because it’s already becoming a bit hefty between individual character notes for Pinocchio, Carlo and Romeo, plus the chapters
And I’m not even done doing everything for chapter 2 yet. I just don’t want the finish post to be five miles long, Especially since when you reblog something it doesn’t keep the ‘read more’ cut in the post

Who has two thumbs and really, really enjoys Secular Christmas? This guy. At least I must, because I keep writing about it. So in lieu of an end-of-year fic wrap-up post (spoiler alert: my year was Yikes), enjoy a mini Advent calendar of Times I Got Sappy About Christmas. (Links go to the relevant chapters, but if it's your first time you might wanna, you know, read the whole thing. Or not, I don't know your life.)
***
This year apparently they're capital-F Family plus Eliot Waugh, and that's – moderately embarrassing, yeah, because Eliot feels just – very out-of-place in the whole Suburban Dream scene, even though he is actually the one of them who knows how to bake things that aren't from Pillsbury tubes. Eliot's game for it, though, nodding along at every bougie detail of the afternoon, from Kelly Clarkson and Pentatonix on Dad's Christmas playlist to helping scrape overdone cookies off the sheet (“maybe baking parchment is your friend,” he suggests as kindly as possible, and Quentin nods as if baking parchment is a thing he's definitely considered before and has concluded Eliot is probably correct about) to being put on popcorn-string duty, which Eliot takes to with the attention to detail of a man trying to land the space shuttle.
Quentin figured Eliot would either be super into Dad's whole DIY thing or extremely appalled by it, and fortunately it seems to be the first one. After he proves his dexterity on the renewable resource of popcorn, he's promoted to making little reindeer ornaments out of used wine corks, and then to what Quentin guesses is the big time, bending copper wire into fancy stars to line up around the candles on top of the stereo cabinet. It's unfortunately extremely cute, actually, the way Eliot memorizes his instructions and focuses on his tasks. Quentin, with his track record of being markedly less focused, is relegated to the tier of tying sticks of cinnamon into packets with ribbon and dusting pinecones with glitter – projects he almost literally cannot fuck up, even in the middle of his third Godiva martini (how are these so fucking delicious?) Even while being unable to tear his eyes away from Eliot's graceful hands, manipulating buttons and tiny straight pins and dabs of glue with ease while he chats about the spring market he's trying to organize, using the Brakebills lot for his greenhouse suppliers to come sell herbs and seedlings directly to customers one weekend, along with, like, art stuff and food trucks and whatever. Quentin listens and nods and tries not to break his cinnamon sticks and tries to look a normal amount at the bones of Eliot's wrists where he's hiked his sweater sleeves up to his forearms.
By nightfall the tuna noodle casserole is almost done, the tree is trimmed, and Eliot is admiring the painted wooden Christmas train sitting on top of the piano, which Ted put together maybe eight or ten years ago, and that earns him a guided tour of the workbench in the basement, the one Ted rarely uses anymore, but still has a few projects frozen in eternal hiatus. It's funny, Quentin hasn't heard his dad get excited about a model kit in years, but it's all there under the surface for an appreciative audience, apparently. Quentin listens to them talking in indistinct voices through the laundry chute as he opens wine and pulls out plates and silverware, and he thinks idly about the texture of Eliot's sweater, how it would feel to lean his face against it, maybe with Eliot's fingers moving slowly through his hair.
Not that Eliot's likely to allow that level of familiarity. Nor, to be perfectly honest, should Quentin be trusted with it.
He checks Instagram just long enough to verify the existence of one cute selfie of Kady and Penny at their traditional Chinese restaurant, plus alerts for multiple updates from Julia's personal account, which Quentin doesn't scroll down to because he's not in the mood to dutifully push the little heart in support of Julia and her girlfriend frolicking in bikinis on the beach or whatever, while Quentin is stuck in Pennsylvania eating tuna casserole with a handsome walking mindfuck who's only here to hang out with Quentin's dad while Quentin yearns uselessly for like. A fucking hug.

the canada dream {02}
n/a: hey, guys! Here’s part 2 of TCD, as promised. I’m sorry it took me so long to update, my classes are back and last week was kinda hard, but here we go! Please let me know what you think <3
Pairing: Pierre-Luc Dubois x reader
Warnings: a little bit of angst at the beginning, mentions of abusive/toxic relationship
Word counting: 2,1k
Ps: part 1 can be found here: https://royaltyofhockeylosers.tumblr.com/post/627737248109133824/the-canada-dream-01
Tumblr media
I realize there's something wrong the moment I find myself opening the door to my old apartment in Boston. As far as I remember, I moved to Montreal and am living with my best friend Anna... Or was it just a dream? I wouldn't be surprised, I've been dreaming on moving to Canada for a while now. I enter the living room and drop my bag on the couch, heading to my room but a noise stops me. No, not a noise. A moan. A woman's moan. I live with my boyfriend, Thomas, and as far as I know, we don't share the apartment with another girl. My heart fasten with every step I take until I'm facing the white door that leads to my room. Our room. "Faster, Tommy" I hear the girl say and my boyfriend groans, making my skin shiver "Yes just like that" "God you're so hot, baby" Thomas' voice is like a fist to my stomach and the tears start rolling down my face. Not again, please. I open the door and the scene in front of me breaks my heart into a million pieces. My boyfriend is buried into a blonde's pussy and keeps thrusting in and out of her as he sees me. "Hello, princess. Do you want to join us?" his smile is almost wicked and I can't move, I can't breath as I watch him fucking her the way he used to make love to me. The tears never stop coming down and my sobbing seems to make him want to go deeper and faster until the girl screams his name.
~~ I sit on my bed, tears running on my cheeks and my heart racing like a horse. My entire body hurts as I'm forced to remember every single scene from that damn day, unable to erase the overwhelming feeling for good. My phone pings and I reach out to check it. When my eyes catch the clock and I realize it's almost 1 p.m, my heart skips a beat. I've never woken up this late, but I guess the adventures from last night and the anxiety of moving to another country to restart my life got the best of me. Unlocking the screen, I check the message app before anything else. There are 2 texts from Tyler and 6 from Logan, so I decide to open the latter thread. L: Hey Y/N, it's Logan L: I'm sorry for last night, I hope Anna is okay L: Tyler said he invited you two to the barbecue, cool! L: Here's the address and don't worry about anything, just bring whatever you guys wanna drink L: We reeeeeally want you to come, Luc is excited to meet you two I smile at the last text which is formed by at least 10 different types of emojis. I reply saying I need to ask Anna if she wants to come and lock the screen again, leaving my bed and going to Anna's room. My best friend is sleeping like a baby, so I decide to go make something for us to eat. When I'm almost done with the spaghetti, Anna appears in the kitchen with a pout on the lips and her brows furrowed. "Good morning, sunshine" I sing and my friend groans, sitting on one of the benches by the marble island in the middle of the kitchen. “I’m not feeling sunshiny today. I feel like I’ve been ran over by a truck. Multiple times” “That’s called tequila hungover and I’m not saying I told you so...” “Nah shut up” she shushes me waiving her hand “Can you get me a pill that’ll make this go away?” Anna points at her own head and I hold back a laugh, opening one of the cabinets where she showed me the medicines were. Handing her an Aspirin and a cup of water, I go back to the stove and turn it down, taking the pan to the island. Anna takes the pill and sighs, looking at the food. "Is this a dream?" my best friend asks when I put a plate in front of her and lets out a small moan when she takes the first bite "Honestly, if I had known you could cook like this, I would've invited you to move in with me way earlier" "Oh, don't get to used to it. My cooking knowledge is resumed to spaghetti, lasagna and burgers" "Who said we need more than that to survive?" Anna looks at me with an offended look making me laugh. We're half way through our meal until I decided to tell her about the barbecue. "So Logan and the other boys are hosting a barbecue today and they want us to come. It'll be just us, them, Tyler's girlfriend and that other guy they were telling us about yesterday. You in?" "As long as Logan keeps his alcohol to himself, I see no problem" she replies and I can't hold back my laugh. "Hey you're the one who suggested you guys should see who could get more shots in less time" "I never thought he'd say yes! That guy is crazy!" she snaps back and I laugh even harder. "Okay so we're going?" "Yeah, I guess so..." "Cool, I'll let him know then" * "What's up?" Anna asks as we're getting ready to leave. She's in my room, laying down on my bed as I finish putting some make up on. I'm wearing a long sleeved shirt with a jeans skirt and snickers since the weather gods decided to send a chill night to break the living hell temperatures of the day. Me and An spent the entire day laying on the floor and drinking an absurd amount of water while watching the latest episodes from The 100. "What?" I ask and look at her through the mirror. "You have a worried look on your face. What's wrong?" "Nothing... I just have a weird feeling that I should know something but I don't" I reply and focus on applying my mascara. "You're weird, Y/N. Are all americans like this?" "Hey!" I throw a pillow at her, making her laugh. As I finish everything and grab the beer packs we're taking, we're all settle to go. On our way to go, I open my Instagram and start scrolling through my feed - which is the most diverse thing in the world. It’s the perfect balance of hockey, singers, food, friends and family. I look at some of the posts before heading to the Story part. I slide through a couple until one catches my attention. It’s the same bar I was yesterday and I can see Anna in her white and red dress in the corner. I check the user and my heart skips a beat when I realize who it is. Pierre-Luc Dubois, one of the few hockey players I follow on Instagram. He plays centre for the Columbus Blue Jackets, my ex's home team, and my heart aches a little when a memory gets me. "Hey, I just saw you follow PLD on Instagram" Thomas' voice reaches me before he appears on our room. "Yeah, I've been following him for a while now, Tom" I say and go back folding the clean clothes. "Why?" he asks, making me look at him a little confused. "Why what?" "Why are you following him?" "Why not? He's a hockey player and I like him. What's wrong?" "Oh you like him? What, do you think he's gonna fuck you if you ever meet?" his aggressive tone makes me blush and my heart fasten. "Why are you saying this? I'll never meet him, Thomas, he's like super famous and lives in Ohio" "Exactly, so stop following him. I don't approve it and I don't like the fact that you're following these hockey guys. They're all assholes" my boyfriend says before storming out of our apartment, leaving me to try and understand what the hell just happened. I never stopped following Pierre's profile, but that was never needed since I caught Thomas in bed with another girl just two weeks after his little scene. That was three months ago and now I was living in Montreal with my best friend, trying to rebuild my life after what he did to me. I look at Pierre's story again and can't help the weird feeling that takes over my body. I knew he was French-Canadian, but I definitely did not know he lived in Montreal during the off season. I guess I never took the time to check on any player's personal lives. I mean, expect for Mitch Marner's but that's just because I really wish we were best friends but anyways. "Hey, you're on Pierre-Luc Dubois' Insta Story" I says and Anna almost throws the car out of the road. "I'M WHAT?!" Definitely should've waited until we got to the house. "Yeah, he was at the same bar as we yesterday and posted a photo of the dance floor. You appeared in the corner" "Wait... You're telling me that that fucking greek god was at the same bar as we and none of us saw it? Are you kidding me?" she says and the annoyance in her voice makes me laugh. "Yep, that's what I'm saying. What are the odds?" "I mean, they're high since his parents live here, but still.. We weren't even at the best bar of the city" "Maybe he is low key and was trying to avoid the crowds" "Yeah, probably" she agrees and changes focus. I observe the streets, filled with big houses with even bigger yards. "I guess Pierre is not the only rich who prefers underground bars..." I comment and Anna snorts, looking at the mansions. “Should’ve guessed he had money when you told me the neighborhood we were heading to, but damn” Anna says and all I can do is nod in agreement.
*
I was worried we would be late, but when we get to the house, Tyler and his girlfriend, Kate, are the only ones waiting for us. "Hey, guys" Ty greets us and takes the beer packs from me "Logan went to buy more beer, Jesse backed down and Luc is late as always" he leads the path to the backyard and I have to keep myself from dropping my jaw. The house is huge but the backyard is unbelievable. There's a deck where the grill is, a pool with a pool house and a soccer court. "This is my girlfriend Kate. Kate, these are the girls we told you about, Anna and Y/N" "Hi!" the curly haired and green eyed girl says and we down by her side. A couple of minutes go by and we're all getting along pretty well until Anna looks at her phone and sees that it's dying. "I think i have a charger in the car, I'll be right back" She leaves and only two minutes later my phone pings. A: don't freak out and act normal but i just bumped into logan outside Y/N: so what? A: pierre is with him My eyes go wild and before I can process what I just read, Logan's voice reaches me. “Look who I just found outside!” I look up asking God for Anna to be messing with me, but she's not. Pierre-Luc fucking Dubois is standing between Logan and my best friend, how's acting like there's nothing wrong. I try my best to do the same and I guess it worked since no one is looking at me with funny looks. "Luc, this is Y/N and Y/N, this is Luc" Tyler introduces us and Pierre shakes my hand with a small smile. "Cool, now you two know each other. Can we eat? I'm starving!" Logan says heading to the grill. “We’ve known each other for less than a day and I’ve already noticed that’s a constant mood of yours” Anna snaps back following him with Pierre right after her, leaving me, Kate and Tyler behind. "You look like you just saw a ghost" Tyler says getting my attention. "I'm just thinking why none of you bothered to tell me that your friend looked like that" I snap back, making Kate laugh. I decide not to mention the fact that I'm a hockey fan and know the NHL player that has just walked past us. "Nah, the minute he opens his mouth you'll see he's a dork" Kate says and heads to the area where the rest is. I follow her with Tyler right by my side and asking God to help me out here.

I unfortunately won’t have therapy until the end of this month (I should have scheduled one earlier this month ugh lmao I thought one later this month would be better) so I’m doing what my therapist suggested, write down all what’s going through my head even if it doesn’t make sense to help bring myself back to reality. lol. I’m very much lost in my own sauce of feelings and thoughts. it’s allllll about my ex again so ugh lmao. My main anxieties are just feelings about my ex and what’s coming up this semester.
I’m currently in my apartment in Iowa City since we’re about to start back up my usual routine. I’ve been here for almost two weeks now which is nice because I’ve been trying to take my time to relax and get myself mentally prepared for this upcoming semester. I’m also low key glad I’m having these overwhelming anxieties right now instead of later this week. I need to ask my therapist again what exactly I am feeling (if it’s like a panic attack because i truly dont know) because I’ve been feeling hella anxious the past few days (in general) and yesterday my anxiety was so intense that I barely ate and I felt sick to my stomach. idk if others have the same too but when I also get hella anxious, all I want to do is go to the bathroom so tmi lmao. I feel this way now and I just cannot stop crying so again, I’m just writing everything that’s going through my mind lmao.
#1) Related to my ex, heart break
Yeah.. I literally keep talking about this/him and I’m glad I have multiple outlets that I can say what’s going through my mind because if I keep these thoughts to myself, I keep spiraling. I’m also very thankful I have multiple strong support systems from people where it truly doesn’t get annoying to them when I keep talking about him/my overall heart break/healing journey. I know I don’t want to burden my friends with my own thoughts (it can be a lot) so overall very thankful for friends, family, and my therapist lmao.
I think the last time I talked about my heart break was the letter I wrote to him. I wrote it and sent it to him lmao. I also wrote his mom a letter in Spanish because I want to stay connected with her and very thankful she reciprocates the same energy, Apparently, he never received the letter even though I sent it over 3 weeks ago, but anyways yeah that’s a story I will tell later in this post. Anyways, it’s legit easier said than done to completely stop checking on his social media. I was doing great before winter break. Now that winter break has happened (still kind of is for a few more days), I have relapsed where I was checking very often. The break was great since I got to spend quality time with family, however, unfortunately being back in Wichita still floods a lot of my emotions where there are still a lot of memories of him and I that still makes me feel sad (luckily no longer sobbing about but I do still feel some type of way. It’s getting better thankfully). It also hurts that he’s making new memories with his new girlfriend Kylie so I was def feeling all sorts of things. Sorry, I’m trying to go onto chronologize order of events that have happened. I’m jumping back and forth lmao
First, did I mention his mom called me the day before Christmas? I was SHOOOOOK when I saw her name on my phone. I legit froze because I wasn’t sure if it was actually her so I accidently missed her call. I’m so glad she left a voicemail so I could listen first and immediately call her back LMAO. But basically, she wanted to check in to see how I was doing, wish me and my family a merry christmas/happy new year, and asked if I could come see her. We joked a bit back and forth like how she was learning English for me while I’m learning Spanish for her. lmao. so after this phone call, I wrote her a letter to update her on what I’ve been doing. I wrote it all in Spanish since that’s her primary language so thank god for google translate. overall, I told her about how I’m about to earn my masters degree in may, I’ve lost now 30 lbs of weight/having a better relationship with food, how I’m honestly still hurt about her son cheating on me (I was in my feels. You know if you ever get those feelings like you want your mom? She legit is like a mom to me since my mom isn’t an active part of my life so yeah I guess you can say I got mommy issues but anyways) I also told her that if she’d still like me to come over, I’d love to come over and see her.
Few days go by, I’ve been creeping onto his social media, it stings to see how he has flaunted his relationship with Kylie. It hurts because I keep playing this comparison game because he truly has NEVER allowed me to post about us and he would himself refuse to post about us on his social media. So, just to see how he’s been basically spending every single day with her and posting her throughout all of his social media, makes me feel an extreme type of way. during new years, she had a party at her house where it was him, her, his brother paco (which I was SHOOOK because she met paco and not everyone has ever met paco, who is his oldest brother), miguel and his girlfriend (both are super cute btw), Blake (surprisingly), and Erik. I felt some kind of way because obviously I know they would share a new years kiss even tho they’ve only been dating for literally a month. I dated him for 3 years and NEVER got a new years kiss (because he wanted to be with bros). Valentines day is coming up and it’d be their “two month” anniversary and I just KNOW he’d actually put EFFORT into spending that day with her. 3 years I dated this guy and he never ONCE did ANYTHING for me for valentines day. ok I’m getting more hurt thinking how he’s treating his other girls better than me so anyways BACK TO THE TOPIC
few days go by and I got another call from his mom. I actually picked up this time because I was really excited to hear her voice again. I legit would die for this woman legit #1 mom. She asked if she could see me and I happily said yes. It really means a lot that she still gives me the same energy that she gave me when I was still dating her son. One of the hardest parts of us breaking up was the potential of losing his family too because they are all truly good people and I am NOT the CEO of letting people go lmao. okay back to subject, I had TONS of anxiety driving over to her house because I had so many thoughts. I asked on the phone if 1.) is Lalo there. She said no. 2.) Is Paco there. No, he apparently flew back to California that morning. I was low key hoping paco would be there still because it would be cool to catch up with him but anyways my main concern was if eduardo was there so since he wasn’t, I was like “ok vroom vroom let’s go” lmao. WOWOWOWWO seeing her just made my heart so happy. She def has a lot more gray hairs since the last time I saw her lmao she’s the cutest anyways, I’m really shook that HIS DAD FREAKING HUGGED ME. THIS MAN NEVER USUALLY HUGS ANYONEEEEEEEEEEE. Typically how we greet each other, it’s like a wave from a distance and we obvi acknowledge each other. so WOOOOW I was very thankful and shook he hugged me. Anyways, his mom showed me around the house with the Christmas decorations, I noticed her birds were still doing well, she even showed me her new plants she got lmao. We sat at the dining room table and talked and ate mexican snacks. She has broken English and I have broken Spanish so literally thank god for dualingo because it has helped me. I love how when we are together, we talk really slow and try to annunciate for each other LMAOOO. Anyways, THIS WOMAN ALSO GOT ME A STOCKING filled with Mexican Candy. omg this woman i love her so much. Anyways, I showed my tattoos to her and she legit wanted to murder me lmao but she says she likes them but hates them at the same time. She also sat me down and we had a serious conversation in terms of how she sees me. She said that I am no longer known as lalo’s novia, what I am to her is a daughter. I am evelyn’s sister and yo boi that got me crying in the club because that’s what I would love to have, to maintain my relationship with them . Okay, to kind of speed things up, basically we kept talking about Evelyn’s quinceanera that’s happening this year AHHHHHH, dropped Evelyn off and her friend to a friend’s quince, and his mom took me to eat at paleterias tropicana where I tried elote for the first time and had a jugo verde WOOOOOW SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD. literally cannot stop thinking about it. Anyways, random note, I noticed my old K-State beanie in the car and his mom said it was Evelyn’s. It gave me a weird feeling because it was originally mine that he gifted me on our first Christmas together but obviously I knew he wouldn’t keep it so I’m not suprised he gave it to Evelyn. It made me wonder then what did he do to the other gifts that he originally gave me but I gave it back to him once we broke up.. okay that was a tangent, anyways, that was it with the night with his mom and ughhh it was a really fun night and I really am looking forward to seeing her again.
Now fast forward to now-ish, me not doing good of not checking his social media, I got triggered because they now made it “facebook officlal” that they are dating. it triggered me because again, he refused to publicize our relationship and it really threw me off that they’ve only been dating for a month (technically interested in each other since October, started dating November) and already publicizing they are together. they moving hella quick and basically, I got hella bitter. I felt reckless and I texted him. I KNOW I shouldn’t have texted him because I immediately felt a sense of regret after but also low key glad I did text him. ugh i hate me lmao. Anyways, i texted him and he asked if he could call me so I said yes. Luckily, the conversation was better than I expected because it was simply like two old friends catching up. It was a really good feeling even tho I’m honestly still hurt about the way that he treated me. It caught me by suprised when he said that he has talked about me with Kylie and he actually stated that he knows what he did and feels regretful for the choices he made. That was a huge shocker and I do still have trust issues because I try to take things that he says with a grain of salt. He may be saying things to me that I want to hear but it’s not the truth so anyways lmao. Our conversation was good and it really got me thinking what exactly am I doing/how am I really feeling.
I really am happy for him. Yes i’m still deeply hurt and feel a type of way about how he treated me, but I can’t do anything about the past and all I can do is just simply be happy for him. I will always love him without a doubt, but he isn’t my person. I hope this doesn’t come off as selfish but he will never find someone better than me, he is simply finding someone better suited for him. What helps me the most about this is thinking about ME because that’s the situation for him, however, I know I will find someone better than him because I deserve the best.
I felt bad for asking because I am just fucking nosy and I’m glad he was okay with me asking about what happened with his relationship with Lila (the girl he left me for) and how did he start dating Kylie. He shared with with me that even though it was all great in the beginning with Lila (and let me tell you dude, he totally was hella infatuated with her lmao), they started becoming two different people. She apparently wasn’t emotionally there for him when he needed her (IRONICCCCCCCCCCCCC BECAUSE THAT’S EXACTLY HOW HE WAS WITH ME THROUGHOUT OUR 3 YEARS TOGETHER) and she ended the relationship. It did make me sad to hear because everyone needs support and it is sad when you go to someone for support and they don’t give you it, ya know? anyways, he said with Kylie, they’ve been friends for two years (I knew who she was when we were together but they’ve always only been friends since they worked at the Sunflower together. This will sound extremely bad but I never thought about her being a girl to worry about because she did a lot of “white” things that we make fun of white people for and so it kind of shocked me that he is dating her now but anyways) apparently he said that “they were hanging out and next thing he knows is that he kissed her and that’s how they started dating.” dude didn’t want to go into detail which was fine but I’m also in my head like “ok lmao you literally just got broken up by your ex and then immediately start hanging out with another girl? ok” ANYWAYS, I really am happy for him and wish him the best.
It was cool to hear about what he’s hoping to do. He shared a lot more detail than usual which again caught me by surprise. Anyways, he shared that he is currently looking for a new place to live (a house to rent) somewhere in college hill (conveniently where Kylie also lives lmao) with Erik. He is also hoping to find another job soon because things at KWCH are no longer making him feel happier so he’s looking to see if he can work for a non-profit org which makes me happy for him because I’d also want to do the same. If I’m at a job where I’m not excited to be, I’d want to also try to make a switch. He also shared that junior (martin, his little brother) will be moving to Cali in May to move close to paco which wow made me really happy for them all. Anyways, he shared that he is hoping to stay in Wichita for about one more year and then possibly relocating to KC or somewhere in Oklahoma. i did encourage him KC because it seems that KC has much more opportunities than Wichita and Oklahoma. Only thing we both hate is driving in KC lmao
Okay, so overall, I’m still really hurt about how our relationship was and how it ended but I’m very grateful that I’m doing what is best for me to make progress because this is not an overall easy thing to do, move on. I do feel low key embarrassed that I still am not over our break up but I’m very glad that I know that He isn’t my person. we will and I cannot get back together with him even if he stated that he has “changed” Yes i invested so much in him to be my forever partner and it didn’t work out but that’s okay. I’m always willing to invest in people to be the best version of themselves and it really makes me happy to see people thrive. I truly cannot and will not take him back if there was ever a time where he wanted to give us a second try because I need to remember how he treated me. If he really was always thinking it was me, then he shouldn’t have cheated on me, treated me so poorly. I’m okay with us remaining friends, but as partners in life? that isn’t it. I deserve so much better and the man of my dreams will come. I’m 10000000% okay with being single because I know I need to work on myself so that I can be fully ready for my next. I really wish my next relationship is my one and only, but hey we’ll see.
so this is already extremely long but I’m very glad I got this all out of me. I know I have other anxieties such as starting school again, which will be my last semester before I earn my masters (FINALLY), RA training coming back up (so me working is coming back), JOB SEARCH. So much is coming up and AHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I need to get my head into gear.

DECEMBER 2014
Julian Santiago considers himself to be pretty close with his only sister. He's only two years older, they've gotten along throughout most of their childhood, and still do today. They're piano portrait buddies, although he accepted a while ago that he’ll always be a little bit closer to the stairs than she is. They shared a room as well as secrets growing up, and she's the first person he tells when he meets his first real boyfriend. Likewise, Julian is the first Santiago brother to learn when Amy gets together with Sergeant Teddy Wells and the first to learn when they break up. They're close, and out of all the seven competitive brothers, Julian likes to think he's the one who knows and understands his sister best.
It's a mystery on multiple levels when he can't figure out how okay she seems about the breakup. His sister, the person who cried for days straight when she broke up with her college boyfriend, his sister who has never been known for taking relationships lightly or being far from tears when she’s going through something, is sitting in their parents’ couch a mere five days after her breakup and seeming fine. She’s laughing and grinning in the most genuine way he recognizes, nodding with surprise when he asks if she’s okay, and Julian understands if she wants to appear strong in front of their hyper-judgmental parents, but this is eerie. She’s too okay. It’s mind-boggling, and either he’s not getting an answer or he’s not asking the right questions, but eventually, he makes the educated guess that there must be someone else in her life. She must have wanted for this to break-up to happen, he figures, and a new mystery lover could very well be the reason. Julian simply has to figure out who it is.
It doesn’t take him many hours - two, actually - before he has a guess. He’s heard his sister talk about her detective partner, Jake Peralta, before, but this is excessive. It starts with a retelling of some funny anecdote he’s told once, continues with her mentioning how she won over him in a confusing set of games and ends with further repetitions of Jake said this and Jake told me that until Julian is as certain as can be. They're dating, he knows it, but he has to be sure - he has to find some way to dig this secret out of her and be the first of the brothers to know - so he brings it up.
Not in front of everyone, of course. He’s made that mistake before and it ended with Amy being too furious to speak to him for weeks. No, he waits until his dad suggests the siblings go out on a walk while Camila finishes up what is sure to be a delicious roast dinner, and while he’s not by definition alone with his sister, it’s the maximal amount of primacy which can be had during Santiago family gatherings. David and Victor are power-walking fifty feet ahead of anyone else, Luis and his wife Emma are walking thirty feet behind with their three-year-old twins. Tony, Isaac, and Christian are close but too deep in conversation about different kinds of protein powder to listen to anything else, their respective girlfriends are deep in conversation about what Julian thinks is a reality show but might as well be politics, and Simon is trying to keep up with David and Victor while holding a camera in front of his face. It’s chaos, but Julian finally has a chance to have a conversation only with Amy, so he jumps on it.
 “So, that Jake guy, huh?”
“What?” Amy flinches, looking at him like he just started speaking Russian to her. “Why are you bringing him up?”
“You two are definitely dating, huh?”
“What?” She nearly screams this, earning herself a confused glance from everyone nearby, and Julian almost jumps to the side in shock. “What - why are you - what would make you think that?”
“I don’t know”, he shrugs, “maybe because you’re mentioning him once every five minutes?”
“He’s my work partner.”
“Who you talk about constantly.”
“I don’t talk about him constantly!” Amy’s still gaping, nose scrunched and eyes clearly judging him for his apparent stupidity. “That’s - you’re - I don’t.”
“You do, though.”
“I don’t!”
“Sure”, Julian grins. “I know you just want to keep it a secret from mom and dad, that’s fine, but you can tell me.”
“Jake and I aren’t dating!” She’s wheezing her words, looking anxiously around her before lowering her voice further. “We’re not. We’re really not.”
“But you’re… something?”
“He has a girlfriend, Julian.”
“Ohh…” He contemplates this confession, the cogwheels in his brain working and immediately jumping to the next guess.
Except she wouldn’t. His sister wouldn’t. Or would she?
“Are you, uh -”, he whispers, “are you the other woman?”
“JULIAN!” They’re earning themselves looks and raised eyebrows again, now also from an older lady walking past them. Amy shoots her an apologetic smile before returning to the conversation. “Trust me, I’m not in love with Jake. And even if I like him - it wouldn’t matter.”
“Why wouldn’t it matter?”
“Because I would never date someone I work with, dumbass! It’s unprofessional.”
“You dated that pilsner guy -”
“Teddy and I worked at different precincts. Jake and I work at the same. It would be...” She grimaces. “I don’t know. I just don’t think it would work. Either way, it doesn’t matter because I don’t like him.”
“You’re talking about him a lot, is all I’m saying.”
“Julian”, she says his name like it’s a warning about life and death. “Let. It. Go.”
“Like the Frozen song?”
“You’re hopeless”, Amy declares, walking away from him in a pace so rushed he has to jog to keep up with her.
“Fine! Fine! You don’t like Jake!”
It pains him as an older brother to give his sister that much privacy when he could be repeatedly teasing her, but Amy’s threatened to beat him up once before and Julian knows from experience his sister is strong. As tempting as it is to do the opposite, he lets it go.
OCTOBER 2015
Julian doesn’t ask his sister more questions about her love life for the year that passes by. Jake the work partner must still be dating someone else, seeing how Amy steers clear of him bringing up for the next months. Whether she has feelings for the guy or not, Julian’s still unsure, but asking seems to do no good and eventually, he gives up.
He can’t shake the suspicion that she’s dating someone else, though. Every time they meet up that summer, Amy is in a better mood than ever. She’s practically glowing every time someone asks her how she’s been, laughing and participating in every conversation even when she says she’s tired from work, and there seems to be an air of confidence and happiness around her that he’s not seen since his sister was promoted to Detective. Whatever - or whoever - is causing it, Julian can’t help but be happy for her. She still mentions Jake now and then, but nowhere near the frequency she once did; whatever unrequited crush was once there, he figures it must have calmed down.
In the end, Julian doesn’t give much thought to the possible mystery boyfriend. If it was serious, Amy would surely tell them, or at least tell him. Therefore, it comes as a pure shock when a late October evening, his half-hearted Instagram scrolling leads to a major discovery.
Julian recently moved in with his boyfriend of five months - Lucas - and while he usually doesn’t have as much time to spend on social media as he’d like, he’s found that during an episode of Game of Thrones is his best shot. Lucas is too into the show to care what Julian does as long as he can rest his head on Julian’s shoulder and have his hair played with, and the episodes are long enough for Julian to thoroughly go through his own Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram feeds. So thoroughly, in fact, that sometimes he has time to go down the rabbit hole of random accounts and comments discussing Broadway shows or veganism, or simply do some benevolent stalking of his loved ones. Go through what accounts his sister follows, for example, and see if there’s anything juicy there she’s not telling him during their weekly phone calls.
There are a lot of inspirational accounts about books and studying, even an account that seems to be centered specifically around laminated documents. She dutifully follows simon_says- the Instagram created by their youngest brother to advertise the supposedly successful YouTube channel no family member truly understands the point of - as well as a bunch of her friends from college and what seems to be every single Santiago family member who has social media. She follows a single account for a handmade jewelry store that Julian quickly scrolls through, and then she follows her co-workers.
Jake Peralta’s Instagram is frequently updated. Mostly with quirky selfies of himself, but also with pictures of chicken wings, Taylor Swift records, and pictures taken together with a short-grown man in beige clothing tagged as charles-foodie-boyle. He’s posted a single selfie in which Amy appears as well, grimacing behind her desk, but Julian doesn’t make anything of it. Considering there’s a twenty-to-one ratio of pictures Charles is tagged in versus pictures Amy is tagged in, he would almost consider it more likely that Jake’s dating him. He checks out Charles Instagram, simply out of curiosity. That’s when the heart attack occurs.
Charles Boyle posted a picture merely an hour ago. It’s taken in a gruff-looking bar, the lighting a little dim and the details a little out of focus, but he can see the three people in it clear as day. Charles is in the front of the picture, smiling enthusiastically and doing a thumbs up, but Julian’s attention is drawn to what’s happening in the background. His sister, wearing a purple blouse he’s seen at many a family dinners and her hair up, is pictured kissing the one and only Jake Peralta.
Julian has never been so angry about an application lacking a zoom function before. Not that he needs it; it’s clearly his sister and it’s clearly Jake Peralta, he’s looked at the man’s face in enough selfies to be certain, and they’re clearly kissing. She even has a hand on his shoulder, displaying more PDA than Julian had ever thought his sister was physically capable of. There are two beers next to them on the bar table, but it’s a work night and Amy’s not the type to get black-out drunk on weeknights. Not black-out drunk enough to be kissing random people. No, Julian has to get the bottom of this, and he has to get to the bottom of this now.
“Lucas?”
“Yeah?” His boyfriend’s voice is distant, his green eyes focused on their television screen.
“I have to make a phone call. Family emergency.”
“Okay,” Lucas mumbles, squeezing Julian’s knee when he disentangles himself and leaves for their bedroom. “Be back soon?”
“I promise!” He half-shouts, unsure if he’ll be able to stick to the wording of soon. He has a lot of questions for the person he’s about to call, and he’s still formulating most of them in his head as his phone searches for and calls up Amy Santiago.
She answers after three signals. She must still be at the bar, he judges from the odd clinking glass and the muffled conversations in the background, and there’s a confused tone to her voice when she speaks.
“Julian? Did anything happen? Is there an emergency of some kind?”
You bet there’s an emergency, he wants to say. You not telling us about your dating life.
“You’re dating Jake Peralta, aren’t you?”
There’s silence on the other end of the phone. Then, a yet more confused, but also curious, voice.
“How on Earth did you figure that out?”
“I, uh, Instagram-stalked you,” he admits, somewhat sheepishly. “I was bored, and I.. I went onto Charles Boyle’s account? He had a picture of you and Jake, that he posted like an hour ago. You two were… kissing.”
Yet more silence, then a loud and angry statement, shouted at someone else on the other side.
(“Charles! I’m going to kill you!”
“Ames, why are you killing Charles this time?”)
“Sorry,” she says when she returns to the phone, not with as much background noise now; she must have walked a bit away. “I’ll yell at him later. But yeah - uh - it’s true, I guess.”
“So you’re dating?”
Amy sighs. “Please don’t tell mom about it. You know how she is about everyone I date.”
“Yeah, yeah, you don’t have to remind me twice,” he assures her, “but now tell me everything. How long have you been dating?”
“A little over four months,” she admits. “I mean, I almost thought it was obvious - I feel like I’ve talked about him a lot.”
“You talked even more about him before you were dating!”
“Did I?”
“Yes.”
“Really?”
“Yes. You literally didn’t shut up about him,” Julian snorts, thinking back to when he first questioned her about it on that winter walk. “Either way - I’m… happy for you.”
He can’t see her reaction on the other end of the call, but he has a distinct feeling that she’s smiling, the kind of shy but genuine smile often accompanied by blushing cheeks.
“Thanks, Julian. I’m really happy, too.”
“He’s treating you well and all those things, right?”
“Obviously.”
“Because I’d beat him up otherwise. Or I’d send Tony to do it,” he offers. “Or pay Simon to make a video about him? Point is I’d find a way.”
This makes Amy laugh, a burst of melodic laughter that reminds him of inside jokes and morning cartoons when they were younger.
“I think I’m good, thanks. Jake’s amazing. I can tell you about him over lunch next week?”
“Lunch next week sounds great.”
“Talk to you later?”
“Absolutely. Have a good night, Ames.”
She hangs up on him. After making a single victory gesture in the bedroom mirror, Julian immediately phones Tony to inform him there’s a winner in the bet on whether Amy would ever date a coworker.
JANUARY 2016
Julian meets the famous Jake Peralta for the first time four months later. At that point, he's built up so much curiosity it feels like he's bursting at the seams, itching to actually meet the person he's heard about since the day his sister transferred to the Nine-Nine. He's excited, but he’s also wary. Amy's talked about this guy in every single phone call and meeting he's had with her for the last months, insisting that you’d love him, Julian, I really think you’d get along until Julian had started to question whether she was trying to pair him together with Jake.
The information Julian has gathered is that Jake is supposedly brilliantly funny with a sweet personality, an amazing detective, worthless at math and basketball and an intense fan of Die Hard and Taylor Swift. (The last piece of information, Julian’s gathered on his own through more professional brotherly Instagram stalking. It’s the same method he’s used to discover that Amy doesn’t, for once, have horrible taste; Jake Peralta actually is cute when he’s not grimacing in pictures. Not Julian’s type, but cute.)
It’s overwhelmingly positive information. Then again, Amy described Teddy Wells with nearly as many positive adjectives to a beginning, and the hours Julian spent listening to that man talk about pilsners are hours he’ll never get back. Therefore, it’s a positive surprise when Jake shows up to the casual siblings-and-partners dinner and lives up to Amy’s description.
He’s far more handsome in person than his Instagram feed makes him out to be, which Lucas seconds before mentioning to Julian that someone should give Jake a proper lesson in taking non-quirky selfies. As a service to the world, he says, and Julian punches him in the shoulder before agreeing.
Jake is visibly nervous to meet so many of the brothers at the same time, seeming tense and giving short replies to a beginning, but once he relaxes, Julian is fully prepared to agree with his sister - Jake is funny. He’s genuine, a natural in conversations, and he chimes in with the jokes or comments no one else would think of. He’s effortlessly nice, almost remembers every different brother’s name, and it’s clear that he meets the most obligatory criteria; he makes Amy happier than Julian’s seen her in a long time. She’s almost shining, grinning and laughing and watching her boyfriend with a gaze so enamored it would have made Julian nauseous if it had been anyone else. He later catches Jake looking at her in the exact same way.
The new couple sticks together for the duration of the evening, never leaving each other’s side for more than a couple minutes. It doesn’t even seem like they’re thinking of it but simply gravitate towards each other without a second thought, seeming displaced once the other one leaves. Julian watches them share secret smiles, looks and squeezes of hands without having a clue what the two of them are communicating, only that they seem to be checking in with each other, speaking a sort of private language. It’s all kinds of cheesy and it’s all the lovey-dovey-ness he can stomach for a day when he can see them kiss through the window the moment they’ve left, but he loves his sister, so he lets her be. He’s happy for her.
NOVEMBER 2017
Because Julian now follows Charles Boyle on Instagram, he finds out about the engagement through an excessive number of insta-stories the moment he wakes up on November 1st, 2017. Amy doesn’t answer her phone for a full three hours after Julian’s first tried to reach her (he does not want to know why), but when she does, she facetimes him on his lunch break to show off the ring and tell the slightly insane story of how the proposal went down.
The proposal follows almost immediately upon Jake’s release from prison. Even before that, the couple had already spent six months apart while he was in witness protection and Amy told all her brothers they were broken up but whispered the truth into Julian’s ear late at night after a couple of glasses of wine. From the stories Amy’s told him, he’s wondered more than once how many more brutal hurdles this couple will have to face, and it’s with great happiness he congratulates her on the engagement. She deserves this. Jake deserves this, they deserve this, and he couldn’t be happier for them.
“So I win the craziest engagement for the year,” Amy brags when she’s told him everything, and Julian has to agree that she does. Then he starts sketching up plans for a private two-person heist he can surprise Lucas with.
MAY 2018
Julian isn’t at his sister’s wedding. He was going to be, thank you very much, he wasn’t intending to miss it, but apparently, nothing’s ever simple in his sister’s life and a bomb threat interrupts the planned event and sends every member of the Santiago family back to their respective homes and hotel rooms. The actual wedding, he learns, takes place outside their precinct with the couple’s colleagues and a few gawking New Yorkers as witnesses, while the real family has to be happy with an impromptu dinner at a nearby restaurant the next day.
It's a chaotic dinner. Luis, Christian’s and Isaac’s kids are spilling food and getting overtired, Roger Peralta and Victor are massaging their own shoulders while shooting each other threatening looks, Simon’s filming and there is definitely a hint of competition to every toast held by the bride and groom’s parents. Still, it's pleasant, and there is laughter and smiles all around when the just-married couple tells the story of how their wedding day went down.
They're almost sickeningly in love, Julian notes, acting like they're part of their own private universe where they can finish each other's sentences and give each other glances that he supposes are meant to be secretive but definitely isn't. They were only a couple of minutes early to the dinner - late in Santiago measurements - and the buttons on Jake’s shirt were clearly buttoned in a haste. Julian loves his little sister and all, but he did not need to think about that image of her.
In the end, he's happy if she's happy, and just-married Amy is by far the happiest Amy he's seen in his life. She barely listens when he tells her he and Lucas are leaving, watching Jake with googly heart-eyes as he's telling Tony some story and glancing back at Amy about every tenth second.
It's what she deserves. As much as he doubts any man could ever be good enough for her, the way Jake watches Amy with awe every time she speaks is everything Julian could ever wish for his sister.

Caught in Public [Minseok, Junmyeon, and Yixing]
You can read this as part of the daddy!au series or a stand alone~~ Minseok’s is angst-ish.
UPDATE: Minseok’s wife is Maisie. Though it is not shown here, Alessia is no longer an oc
Enjoy~
Minseok
Tumblr media
Alessia and Minseok had just started dating. Of course, it was a secret because Minseok was in EXO which was a huge group around the world. The other reason was because Alessia the hate she would receive for not being full Korean as well as for even dating someone like him. It hadn’t been hard to plan their dates and into their seventh month, neither of them expected it to blow up in their face.
Alessia was on her way to work when she got a call from her boss that told her it wasn’t safe for her to come into work. He told her not to come in until everything died down. She didn’t understand what was going on, but she u-turned and headed back to her apartment so she could figure out what was going on.
“Yah! Alessia! WHORE!” She spun when she heard her name and two angry teen girls stormed up to her. “Who the fuck do you think you are dating our oppa?” One cursed before she spit at her and the other shoved her against the wall behind her. “This is your warning. Stay. Away. From. Minseok-oppa!” The girl stormed off with her friend close behind.
Alessia was shaking, but her legs carried her back to her apartment. Once inside her place, she looked up Minseok online and found pictures of them from when they were in Japan. They had been so careful and made sure no one followed, but apparently it was taken from a fan.
The harassment grew. Alessia felt overwhelmed. Minseok knew about some of the things that were happening like the malicious comments and threats and he worked behind the scenes to try to end it. However, he didn’t know about the sasaengs who were making Alessia’s life a living hell for the next week and a half. She was forced to use her vacation and sick days until the fans stopped showing up at her work as it endangered the kids at the school. Going to the grocery store was nearly impossible without being chased off, shoved, or threatened. She had her friends from work bring her groceries periodically. It was all ridiculous.
She ignored Minseok’s calls and texts for days and unable to take it much longer, he decided to pay her a visit. However, when Alessia answered the door, he was filled with worry. She had tear stains on her cheeks, her eyes were swollen and red, and she had large bags under her eyes. “What happened?”
“Minseok…?” She looked at him for a split second, but then casted her gaze to the ground, “I’m sorry… We’re done.”
“What? Why? What happened?” Minseok reached out for her, but she jerked back.
Tears fell down her cheeks once more, “Please” her voice was weak. “I just want my life back… I’m sorry.” She shut the door while he was stunned in place.
Making it back to the dorms, he was approached by Junmyeon who showed him news about how the sasaengs were attacking Alessia in public. Minseok’s legs gave out as he sat on the sofa with his head in hands, “I can’t lose her… How can I save us?” His voice broke. Yes, it had only been seven months, but she made him happy. Truly happy. He couldn’t lose her.
Jongdae sat beside him and patted his back and Junmyeon sat across from him in thought. “Maybe focus on the sasaengs first. Threaten to press charges on them” Jongdae suggested.
“That’s a good idea. Alessia more than likely won’t be willing to talk to you while all this chaos is going on” Junmyeon tapped his chin. “We can talk to the company and the police station to see what can be done. Once it all dies down maybe you can try to meet up with Alessia and fix everything.”
Junmyeon
Tumblr media
Jumyeon insisted on taking Jennifer back home after their date not wanting her to go home alone. The two held hands under the cold night sky as they talked about their upcoming work.
Jennifer shivered as a breeze passed her and Junmyeon shrugged off his jacket. “I didn’t think it would get this cold” he chuckled as he placed his jacket over her shoulders. He wore a sweater and was relatively warm compared to Jennifer who had a sweater, but wore a skirt. He pressed a kiss to her forehead as his hand circled her waist as they walked.
“Thanks… I should have checked the weather. I would have worn pants or something.” She looked up at him as the reached her apartment, “Are you staying the night?”
“If you’ll have me” he smiled when he saw her nod. “Then I would love to stay the night and wake up beside you.” She wrapped her arms around his neck as his hand pressed on her against the brick wall outside her complex. They shared a heated kiss before he broke it. “We should get inside” his voice was deep and his eyes were swimming in lust “Otherwise I may just take you here.” Jennifer laughed as she pulled him inside her complex unaware of the fan who took a picture of the two of them in each others arms.
The next morning, Junmyeon woke to multiple texts and calls from his members and the company telling them that pictures were released. Junmyeon looked to see what they were talking about and he silently cursed as he ran his hand through his hair. He looked over at his sleeping girlfriend before he got out of bed and called the company to find out the next steps. Junmyeon wasn’t going to deny the relationship nor was he going to break up with her, but he also wasn’t going to let people attack her.
After discussing it with the company, they decided to make a public statement confirming the relationship as well as mention they would press charges on anyone who send malicious messages concerning the couple.
Yixing
Tumblr media
Yìng Yuè and Yixing had conflicting schedules after she got a job as a software developer in a major company. Before her job, they would meet at least four to five days a week if Yixing wasn’t extremely busy with his music and shows he would host and judge on. Now, they were lucky to meet up two times a week. It was a lot like a long distance relationship. They lived in the same city, but could only really communicate via phone calls and text.
That was until the weekend, as they were both off, Yixing suggested to go on a date and Yìng Yuè immediately said yes. She missed him just as much as he missed her. They understood they were both working hard to succeed in life, but they also knew their relationship needed attention to.
That Saturday, they went out and did some shopping before grabbing some dinner. It was a great night and after taking the bags to Yixing’s apartment, the two went out for an evening stroll to catch up with everything they had yet to talk about.
Yixing had been nervous throughout the day and it didn’t go unnoticed by Yìng Yuè. She had feared for the worse when he suddenly jerked her hand to stop her from walking. She stared at him as he tried to work up the courage to say what was on his mind. “I need to ask you about something…”
Yìng Yuè felt her heart drop, “Okay?” She took in a breath as she waited.
“We’ve been together for three and a half years and you know I love you. I want to share my entire world with you–including my public life.”
Yìng Yuè’s eyes widened. Not just because her fear that he was going to break it off was wrong, but that he wanted to go public. “Wait–what? Do you think that’s a good idea? Have you seen the backlash your member in Seoul got for dating?”
Yixing tightened his grip on her hand, “And Chanyeol is handling the situation. We may get some backlash, but I don’t want to keep you and our relationship a secret anymore.” He kissed the back of her hand, “I want the world to know that I found the love of my life.” He pushed her hair behind her ear, “I don’t want to hide you.”
Yìng Yuè chewed on her bottom lip, “Can I have some time to think about it, Yixing? It’s a pretty big deal.”
He nodded as he took her into his arms. He noticed a man with a camera and his eyes narrowed. Yixing tried to give a smile as he moved his hand to block the man’s view of Yìng Yuè’s face. “Yea, I’ll let you think on it of course. Could you go get us something to drink?” He said suddenly and pulled out his card. Yìng Yuè headed off to the nearest cafe and Yixing made his way to the camera man. “Let’s bargain, instead of posting those pictures, how about I set up an interview about my relationship?” Yixing compromised with the camera who took her photo. He waited for the camera man to delete the picture before he gave him his business card. Yixing wouldn’t set the interview until Yìng Yuè said it was okay to go public.

Black Roses, Chapter 4: With every update comes more love and support and I cannot express my gratitude enough.  As usual, the link to my ff account is at the end if you could so kindly leave a review. Much appreciated. I’m not posting the whole chapter on this platform because it’ll take forever to space it all out so click the link for the full chapter. Happy reading (:
Tyler admired Caroline from across the table, leaning back on his chair as she digested her grimoire and paying him no mind. After lunch they both had free period which is usually when they engaged in quality alone time together but found themselves in a study room instead.
He knew how busy she's been lately and his schedule was no better which prompted his plans to woo her into immense PDA for the next 40 minutes. But Caroline had other plans, stressing herself out to get things done and was too focused on her work to notice her boyfriend's prying eyes.
Almost.
"You're staring." She sang with a smile, making it clear she sensed him far before saying anything.
The werewolf smiled back. "What can I say, I like the view." He shrugged.
"Cheesy. Very cheesy." Caroline softly laughed under her breath shaking her head and continued reading.
She hadn't noticed Tyler sitting up from his chair and subtly moved to her side of the booth now right beside her. His immediate warmth was hard to hide so she wasn't too shaken up even when he pushed a strand of hair behind her ear with his finger.
Caroline didn't allow the close proximity to phase her, teasing him by not giving the attention she knows he's desperate for was reward enough.
"Would it be less cheesy if I had very dirty intentions?" He said suggestively against her skin.
Her slight shiver not enough reason to give in. She dismissed his seductive promises with a shrug and abruptly changed the subject. "Want to see this new spell I learned? Your girl can basically cause a wildfire using just her mind." Caroline proudly claimed with a widened smile.
Of course she was proud.
It was a spell she had been working on since last semester for her senior seminar class that she consistently messed up on; whether ingredient measurements or other distractions. Multiple trials later, she felt it was finally perfected and was eager to show it to the person she cared most about.
Tyler brushed off her comment with nonchalant nods with lips seeking out her skin again.
"Later, much later." He suggested with his lips brushing her cheek before dipping lower to caress her jaw and kissing repeatedly. His hand grabbing one side of her face to keep her head at an angle as his sensual actions continued.
Caroline momentarily lost herself in the feel of his affections, forgetting her hurt from his dismal of her excitement.
Tyler was a great boyfriend majority of the time, but he wasn't the best support system when it came to her witchery. When they were just friends, he always claimed how confusing witches were and how the witchcraft gave him the creeps, but then he fell for Caroline. She thought with him being with her it'd encourage him to learn more about what she is and but it never came and she didn't press him about it.
The book nearly dropped after her shallow moan of appreciation. His other hand venturing lower to her waist pulling her closer.
A part of her wanted to indulge and relax but she knew how irresponsible it would be if she succumbed. Her eyes closed for a second before opening wide soon after. She couldn't risk sparing any time or being distracted.
Lightly pushing him against his chest when he attempted to drifting lower onto her neck, Caroline groaned.
"Stop." She whined lightly pushing him away.
Tyler sighed frustratingly and annoyed. His fingers ran through his hair wildly as he sat up his chair with a scowl. "Really Care?"
Caroline threw her hands in the air. "What? I told you I have a lot of work to do."
"And I don't?" He raised his voice. "Yeah, I have tons of assignments and football but I still make time for you, for us. To steal these moments with each other while we can..." Leaning in for another kiss that Caroline immediately dodged.
The blonde scoffed turning her face. "Seriously? That's what this is about, you're pissed because I don't want to make out with you whenever you want?" She accused.
"Honestly? Yeah, kinda." He admitted. "Or maybe I'm just pissed that my girlfriend seems to be more into her stupid spell book than me."
Caroline's head shot up with an upset snarl. "It's not stupid." She defended.
Tyler pressed his lips into a line appearing apologetic. "Hey," Grabbing her hand into his affectionately. "I'm sorry babe, okay? I just miss you and feel like we haven't spent a lot of time together lately. We're the royal couple at this school but I don't feel very royal-like when I'm not with you." He joked making Caroline grin at the corniness.
It wasn't that Caroline was intentionally trying to blow Tyler off but she genuinely had a full plate of responsibilities, not to mention her mother informing her earlier in the day she'd be visiting some time this week. Whitmore's first football game was in just a few days, homecoming committee meetings were tomorrow; her class work and personal work were clashing. The pressure kept piling on and she longed for a break that would never come, and Tyler was a part of the break she needed.
She gave him a warm smile, leaning into him to capture his lips in a sweet but brief kiss. "I know, I'm sorry too. I know I'm a mess and probably the worst girlfriend ever."
Tyler looked up, pretending to ponder. "Not the worst..." He teased making Caroline laugh.
"I appreciate you wanting to make time for me, I do. But you know how important my lineage is and what it means to my family to remain the supreme witch by the time I graduate." She explained.
"I get it, you know I do." Tyler sighed. "I get how important this is for you but it's not everything, right? You're more than just spells and shrunken heads." He laughed.
Caroline's forehead slightly creased in irritation. Irritated that Tyler wasn't understanding what she was trying to say at all.
- He really doesn't get it.
Tyler's hands crept up on both sides of her face softly. "I want you, Care. I like being with you but lately it seems I've been in a relationship with you and the grimoire."
"Oh, you mean how I felt last semester with you and your football
Her response died when his mouth covered hers briefly with a promising kiss. The abrupt act of affection stunned the blonde witch who's air nearly knocked out her lungs from the aggression. He pulled away with an event brighter smile that she reciprocated, deciding not to start another argument.
"Let's go away this weekend just you, me and my parents' lake house. The next full moon isn't for a couple of weeks so I'll still be around. Perfect opportunity for us to, reconnect." He suggested.
She nearly forgot about the full moon that occurred once a month was quickly approaching.
Caroline dreaded this time of the month because Tyler would go home to, 'handle the situation'. He never wanted to be near, on the certainty that he would hurt someone on campus; most importantly Caroline despite her fascination. Instead, his parents arranged a deal with Headmistress Saltzman for approved leave once a month.
Money can get you anything.
He would run wild and free in the dark woods near his mansion, about 30 minutes from the school.
Without a doubt Caroline missed him during that time but a romantic getaway? As if they were a married couple trying to keep their love alive instead of just two teenagers who needed a breather.
The witch's mouth agape. "Tyler-"
"Imagine how beautiful and peaceful it'd be to have a little getaway before things get too wild around here. Before we both become caught up in other stuff and really won't have much time together till graduation. And, my parents said I can use it whenever I want." Tyler excitedly proposed.
Caroline nervously laughed. "You realize we have school, right?"
"Obviously," Rolling his eyes. "But it's just the weekend and all we need is the approval from Headmistress Saltzman then it's a done deal." He said nonchalantly.
Tyler turned Caroline's chair until she was completely facing him. She slightly flinched when he grabbed her hand again and leaving a kiss on her knuckles.
"We're stressed already, especially you, and being on campus all the time is probably making it worse." He accurately claimed. "A weekend away is exactly what the doctor ordered." He said with a convincing smile.
It was a very tempting offer that Caroline would usually jump at the opportunity for.
The Lockwood lake house was legendary, especially during Summer vacation. Tyler came from a wealthy family as well, his father was the Mayor of Whitmore though he had to keep his family tree a secret from the public. Nothing would hurt more in his campaign than everyone finding out their dear mayor and his son were half beast. Tyler's mom was human, marrying into the supernatural improved her knowledge on the nature of werewolves; it's what Caroline wished Tyler would do for her. Caroline only met his parents a few times and never feeling more cold and inferior than talking to Mrs. Lockwood.
They allowed Tyler to rent out the lake house that had been passed down by generations. All his parties were lively and extravagant. Nearly the entire class was invited, minus vampires of course. Not to mention it sat on the most beautiful lake in town with the perfect view of the dusk and dawn. Caroline loved it and being there would probably be the perfect stress relief.
She sighed defeated. "That sounds so nice, really, but I don't have much time to spare especially with this group assignment from Professor Sommers' class that determines if I graduate or not. Can you believe she really paired me with Klaus Mikaelson?"
The werewolf's eyebrows shot up curiously. "Mikaelson? Why do you two have a class together?"
"It's a general education class, everyone's allowed apparently." Caroline said disapprovingly.
"Huh..." Pressing his lips together.
"Yeah I know. Literally couldn't have received a better graduation gift, right?" She rolled her eyes with a laugh.
Caroline's joking expression faded when she noticed Tyler's face drop and feeling his body tense.
He took a deep breath and slightly relaxed noticing his girlfriend's concerned face.
When he placed a comforting hand on top of hers she felt more calm. "Sorry, sorry it's not you. I just really don't like that guy." He admitted.
"Join the club." She agreed with a wide smile and arms around his neck to bring him in for a deep kiss.
Their lips smooth against each other and in perfect rhythm. He pulled her closer, both arms around her waist tightly and moaning between kisses.
She knew Tyler was just trying to be a good boyfriend, it was more than appreciated and she wanted to be good to him as well; he's yet to give her a reason not to be. She was becoming her own enemy, her personal thoughts and revelations blocking her from reality.
- Fake it till you make it.
She told herself, figuring this was just another one of her phases that would blow over in a day or two.
The werewolf pulled away from the embrace to speak. "But if he ever gives you a hard time-"
"Don't worry. I can handle him." She smiled into another kiss. "Who do you think makes a sport out of giving him aneurysms?"
Tyler laughed in agreement, kissing her lips a final time.
Per usual, Caroline arrived to class before everyone else with three textbooks in her arms and a scowl on her face. Lately she hadn't been bubbly happy Caroline that everyone knows and loves.
She was already having a chaotic day, not to mention one of her cheerleaders sprained their ankle which meant Caroline has to change the squad's formation and she had to prep for another meeting tonight with her coven to discuss homecoming. She performed a minor soothing spell on herself before class to ease her through this last class, especially because today was the first day of working on class projects.
Literally the last thing Caroline wanted to do today was endure vampire company for 40 minutes.
Now sitting at her seat she pushed her hair out her face and began organizing her desk area before class began.
Organization kept her semi sane.
She spread out all her notebooks and pens, color coordinated and perfectly parallel of each other.
Caroline glanced up at the sound of an annoying female laughter coming from the entrance.
More and more students arrived and cleared her view at the nauseating sight of Klaus and the infamous short redhead vampire. Her back pressed against the threshold stupidly laughing at whatever Klaus was saying while he practically towered over her.
The girl was clearly whipped. He could've been telling her it's cold outside or he lost his car keys and she would think it was the funniest thing in the world.
- Gross. Imagine being that sprung over Klaus Mikaelson.
She cringed.
This was the second time Caroline's seen them together all cuddled up looking and acting like a couple; at least this time they were fully clothed. Still she was trying to burn that image out her head.
Caroline never noticed them together before this semester and now they popped up everywhere she turned in the most sickening fashion.
Klaus kept his hands in his pockets but the girl wouldn't stop touching him like she'd die if she didn't. Both her hands caressing his chest through his white Henley seductively, and thigh settled between his. Klaus didn't seem as enthused with her affections but he also wasn't dodging anything to stop it, smirking and egging her on. When he did show a hint of a smile it seemed genuine, and he didn't appear annoyed by her either.
- Maybe it is two-sided?
Caroline found it difficult to not analyze the scene in front of her. It was hard to look away, like watching a tragic car crash.
Caroline wanted to gag. They were so transfixed into each other neither bothered to move out the doorway for the student entering. If anything the redhead used it as an excuse to subtly push herself closer into his body.
- Amateur.
The blonde rolled her eyes.
- Shit!

Here’s some good lgbt (again with a focus on lesbian books bc I’m a lesbian so if i dont say anything specific about it in the list assume its f/f) books I read this year Ver 2.0  this time on my book blog...Previous years post (x)
I actually read a lot of lesbian fiction this year, I will try to include only stuff that I absolutely loved and/or I don’t see talked about in these kind of lists! Also, if you want content warnings about any of the books dm me.
-The Crimson Empire Series by Alex Marshall: Okay this is the real reason I’m bothering to make this write up I’ll own up to it! It’s so GOOD. I think its the first really successful casual no misogyny/heteronormativity fantasy setting I read. Most stuff I read that tried this ends up just adding in some strong female character(tm) and a blink-and-you-missed-it mention of some side character being gay. But not here. Most of the main characters in this are women...and most of the cast is also lgbt. The man character is a bi woman who also happens to be a 60 year old badass and I love her. There are other characters that are bi lesbian or gay of varying importance (there are a million pov characters and some of them are spoilers so im being vague here). And also there are trans characters. I literally never seen trans characters in fantasy except in indie lgbt publications. AND beyond that its just such a good series, its incredibly fun. There is a lot of political intrigue and a lot of action and a lot of weird dark magic. It's also hilarious and made me laugh out loud multiple times which is very rare for books! Also, it’s a trilogy and it gets gayer each book. Like, the gay content is growing geometrically by the page count, trust me.
Rest under the cut!
-Last Words from Montmartre by Qiu Miaojin translated by  Ari Larissa Heinrich this is very different and much more literary than the rest of the list. It’s a Taiwanese classic from what I understand, and it’s also the authors suicide note. I won’t pretend to understand this book, it’s written in letters which the author tells us can be read in any order. The author is a lesbian, and the story is said to be semi-autobiographic, but I can’t say this is lesbian fiction exactly. Not even who the narrator is is quite clear, as they seem to change gender from one letter to the next, sometimes being called by a different name. I don’t think I can do it justice in a few lines so I suggest if you’re interested you do your own research on it. It’s fascinating book, but it’s not something that everyone will enjoy, if enjoyment is even the right word for the experience of reading this book.
-When Women Were Warriors series by Catherine M Wilson: Okay I recommended it in the last years post but I read the last book this year and it was actually my favorite among the trilogy. And honestly , it deserves a second mention, it’s that good. It’s historical fantasy, magic exists but in a more mythical sense than throwing fireballs around (I’ve seen someone call it celtic fantasy, which might be more accurate). It follows the story of a young apprentice trying to become a warrior. There is a lesbian romance, but the overall plot is more about this apprentices coming of age, though the scale of the story expands widely as the books go on.
-Letters Never Sent by Sandra Moran. This is historical fiction  very reminiscent of Sarah Waters, if you like her definitely check this out. It follows a young woman finding old letters of her death mother and learning about a side of her she never knew. It’s a dual perspective story with one for the daughter, and one for the mother in her youth. Both dealing with their own drama, though the focus is more on the mother. The story unravels slowly and though it’s not necessarily unpredictable it’s still a great read if you like historical fiction.
-Amatka by Karin Tidbeck this is a swedish dystopian sci-fi story where words quite literally shape reality, reminscent of classics like 1984, not necessarily in content but the general feeling it gives, I’m not sure whether it’t the themes or the writing but it feels more like an old book. And I mean that in the best way possible. The main character is a lesbian, she gets into a relationship during the story, but this is very much not a romance book, it’s more about the main character slowly questioning the world she is in, and asking too many questions. I highly reccomend this one if you’re a fan of sci-fi dystopians, or want to see an unique take on the genre in a world filled with hunger games rip offs. (I was a bit confused that I couldn’t find the translator of this book, until I realized the author translated it herself. Just an interesting tidbit!)
-Pegasi And Prefects Series by Eleanor Beresford: light  board school books with just a little magic and lesbians. I found these short books to be surprisingly good and well written (sadly this is rare in lesbian fiction in my experience). The author described is as a slice of life harry potter which is pretty much it. Though there is some homophobia in these books, so be warned. The main story is concluded, and although the author teased more books in the setting there don’t seem to be updates in some time.
-The Mermaids Daughter by Ann Claycomb: This was a weird kind of melancholy book about a woman who only is relieved of her pain when she’s in the water. As were all her female predecessors, who all died young, by suicide. Her girlfriend delves into her family history in hopes to prevent her having the same fate. It’s a little mermaid retelling but that might be misleading, the main character is not the little mermaid, she’s her great great great grandaughter, or something like that. There is also the constant theme of Opera, which serves as a way to tell the story too, which sort of flew over my head. But it was still very much enjoyable.
Short Stories and Novella
Undertow by Jordan L. Hawk : So this is a f/f novella in a long running m/m series. I can’t speak for the main series but this novella was good for its length. The setting is lovecraftian, but not quite so dark. I originally picked this up because one of the reviewers were complaining the love interests, who is some sort of mermaid-esque sea creature, had shark teeth. She’s great by the way, and so are her teeth.
The Terracotta Bride by Zen Cho: This is a novella set in the Chinese afterlife. More specifically Malayan. The people in the afterlife receive money and items when living people burn things for them. The story explores the main character who is married to the richest man in afterlife life, and her relationship with her husbands second bride, who is not a human but a terracotta wife who her husbands relatives have burned for him.
The Cybernetic Tea Shop by Meredith Katz: A very simple straightforward story about an old model robot girl who owns a tea shop and a mechanic. It has a great atmosphere and I love the image of the old tea shop owned by a robot whos slowly breaking down.
The Ape’s Wife and Other Stories by Caitlín R. Kiernan: This is a collection of excellent weird fiction short stories. I have a book by her in all my recommendation posts by this point, and I hesitated before adding this. Not all stories feaure any lgbt content, but enough of them do that it’s not out of place in this list. Though all of the stories in it are fully worth reading. My personal favorite of this collection is Galapagos, a rather disturbing story about space.

Writer’s Block, Fanfics, and LiS
Well. After a Browser shortcut decided to send me to a new window and eat an entire post, here I am at attempt number two to look at a rough draft for a Life is Strange fanfic I'd been procrastinating on for far too long. The last update had ended right with Max knocking on the door to the apartment where the Caulfields live (I’ll go into detail on that in a moment).
I blinked and gave Max a startled look as she knocked. "Dude, you live here. Don't you have a key?"
Max glanced up at me, her face coloring, as she started fumbling at her pocket. "Sorry, I forgot! With everything we--" she started to stammer. Her mouth snapped shut and she turned back toward the door as we heard a bolt thrown open and a man shout on the other side of the door."
"--Max!" this bearded bear of a man shouted over his shoulder and then lunged out of the door to smother my girlfriend. She barely had time to give out a startled eep. A smirk threatened to break through my facade as I watched. I guess Mr. Caulfield had lightened up some since I'd last seen him. He'd always been reserved before, and I don't recall ever seeing him hug his daughter in front of me. For that matter, it'd always been dull when I'd go visit Max. She had no computer games, only a few toys, and everything had to be in its place.
Hell, most of the time she'd come to my place because we could play and be kids. Joyce never minded our messes... the smile fled my lips. Mom. Hell, the house is far more fucked up after the Storm than anything Max and I ever could do, not even the time we dug up the back yard looking for our time capsule.
"Chloe? Chloe Price, is that you?" I heard and looked up from my feet to see Max's mom standing in the doorway. Her eyes were red and puffy, with dark shadows under them. I swallowed and tried to pull myself together. I could see Max wiggling in her father's arms and realized all at once I really had to pee... and Max was probably worse.
"Hey there Missus C. It's been a while... um, not to be rude but it was a long drive and we really need to use the bathroom!"
"Oh! Of course! And please, call me Vanessa," she responded. Man, she has mellowed out. She used to insist I call her Mrs. Caulfield and now she's letting me call her Vanessa? I blinked in surprise while she stepped up to her husband and gently smacked his arm. "Let our daughter breath, Ryan, before she wets herself. I'll have you clean it up."
Okay. First... their apartment. I know most folk like to think that Max lived in a nice house in the suburbs of Seattle and lived comfortably. I've gone on at length about how this isn't the case. We've had evidence from multiple sources that Max is in fact from a lower-middle class family, and most likely lives in an apartment in one of the less wealthy parts of the city. For instance, Max wears clothes she picked up from a thrift shop. I know some folk like to think this is all "hipster" and the like but... given how important Max's scholarship is (to the point she considers rewinding and telling David the pot belongs to Chloe even if she watched him smack her previously because he threatens her scholarship outright) (yes, another strike against this child-abusing piece of shit... I swear the longer I think about him the more I hate David Madsen) this really suggests money is tight for her parents.
Hell, look at Max's camera. It's an old beaten-up camera that is in fragile enough condition that a drop to the ground breaks it. Kodak Instant Cameras are sturdy and made of thick plastic. The only way that either being knocked to the ground or Max later landing on the camera and crushing it could break it is if the camera had previously been broken and Max had fixed it - and given that Max knew how to fix the camera, that seems likely to be the case. (Given the expense of Instant film, Max probably used all of her money from allowances or part-time jobs to pay for film. I've mentioned that the Photo Wall is over a hundred dollars worth of pictures.)
Anyway, I ran into a quick problem when I was first writing this... and realized that Max would have a key to her parents' apartment. I considered the possibility Max left her keys behind seeing she'd not be home, but decided it was simpler to just have Max forget she had them. Hey, we all do that at times, and Max has a lot on her mind (and bladder).
As for the writer's block... well, this story has been paused since before Farewell. I must admit I actually held off on writing it because I was hoping we'd get to meet Ryan and Vanessa during Farewell - but while we saw them briefly during the funeral, there were no lines and what we did get left a bad taste in my mouth. That said, it's closer to canon than BtS has proven to be, and did remain true to continuity.
Max and Chloe talk to me. I know, it undoubtedly sounds strange to say that... but it's how I write. The characters become a part of me and they let me know what they're going to do and what they want to do. I've had characters insist "I want to do this instead" and often I'll let them. They know the story better than I do. But Ryan and Vanessa don't talk to me. They don't exist to me outside of some text messages and so I'm left aimless and with no idea of where the story would go once Max and Chloe reach Max's folks.
That's the crux of the writer's block. Well, that, anxiety, procrastination... you know, the usual for writers. But another problem is that I tend to write first drafts and edit as I go. My first drafts are closer to final drafts than what first drafts should be. And that can be problematic. You see, the way to get through Writer's Block is to write. Anything. Everything. Just "vomit words onto the page" and then use editing to pick out the gems. And that's what I ended up doing tonight.
This scene doesn't work. I'm realizing this as I go along. To be honest, I did just now come up with this bizarre amused thought - of Max and Chloe getting to the apartment and then finding there is no one home because Ryan and Vanessa got in their car (assuming they still have one - not all city folk do, and I had considered them selling the car as the extra cost of insurance and the like might be too much for them) and drove to Arcadia Bay to find their daughter.
Maybe I'll go with that. It's cheating, I know. It's a little bit amusing too. And the idea calls out to me more than trying to deal with the Caulfields and getting their character wrong. Sadly, I still eventually need to figure them out, seeing that "Life is Strange: A New Year" does involve them at some point. But I'll burn that bridge before I reach it, I'm sure.

Moving Forward - Chapter 53
Merry Christmas to all of you <3 NSFW ahead :)
“We live in a changing world, but we need to be reminded that the important things have not changed, and the important things will not change if we keep our priorities in proper order.“ - S. Truett Cathy
The coffee was hot and surprisingly good, even though it had come without the shot of rum she would have loved, and really needed on this particular Wednesday morning.
The entire lot of the North Shore Studios in Vancouver was exceptionally bustling this morning, and maybe she wasn’t used to it anymore or she really was that stressed out, but she was glad to sit in this quiet trailer on this comfortable couch, far, far away from any trouble. Or so it seemed.
David stepped into his trailer in full Mulder gear. She knew that they had spent the entire previous day in Mulder’s office and would be there until noon today. He’d told her that they’d move to a country club in Pitt Meadows to shoot the dancing sequence this afternoon. And with wrapping the fifth episode, Melanie hoped that the rumors and accusations, which were currently making their rounds on social media, would also come to an end. It had only been a day, but she already had enough of it for a very long time.
Especially since David still appeared to be absolutely relaxed when he closed the door of his trailer behind him and stepped up to the couch where she’d been waiting for him for at least twenty minutes now.
“Good morning!” he said cheerfully and flashed her one of those annoyingly disarming smiles of his before he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and flopped down next to her. He immediately started to loosen up his tie.
“Morning,” Melanie grumbled into her coffee and rolled her eyes. She was still fuming, and he still seemed absolutely oblivious.
When he left their little meeting last night, she’d secretly hoped that the rumors of him having an affair with his very young dancing instructor would evoke the same reaction in Gillian as it had in her, especially after learning that a stupid post on Instagram by said dancing instructor was the root of the problem.
Now, Melanie had to shake her head over her own naivety. As if Gillian, the queen of bad, insinuating social media posts, would’ve been bothered by such a thing.
Apparently, she was the only one of them realizing that David’s name attached to a slinky picture of a half-naked young woman and a suggestive offer wasn’t making that much of a good impression out there.
“And, how are things this morning?” David asked and folded his hands behind his head, looking at her with what she’d call an almost challenging expression.
Greetings from Gillian, Melanie thought and pursed her lips. It wasn’t like she wasn’t up for the challenge, but she’d rather just have a conversation with a fairly level-headed David. “Oh you know, it takes a while before such news make it around the globe, so-”
“So, everything’s fine.”
She shot him a warning look. “You know damn well how fast these things can get out of hand, so don’t you come to me with some bullshit like ‘see, Mel, everything you made me do last night wasn’t necessary’.”
He raised his hands defensively. “Wouldn’t even cross my mind. Look, I’m grateful for everything you do for me. But…” David shrugged his shoulders, “it wasn’t Dani’s intention to cause trouble. And it’s not like I have something to hide, or anything to be ashamed of.”
“I know that, David. But it’s my job to protect you from those who don’t care about you and your family. No matter if it’s a random fan who likes to accuse people of all kinds of things, someone you work with, or-” she suddenly stopped, pressing her lips together in a thin line.
“Or?” he leaned forward, searching her face.
She shook her head. “Nothing.”
“Or my girlfriend, is that what you wanted to say?”
“I didn’t say she doesn’t care. I’m just saying that… she’s not making the best choices when it comes to her or your public image.”
David sighed and clenched his jaw, leaning back against the cushions. “I think she just doesn’t take it that seriously. As in, it doesn’t bother her what people are saying online.”
“Well, that’s nice to hear. But frankly, I don’t really care if Gillian minds or not. When I say I’m trying to protect her, I basically mean trying to protect her from herself. Because we have a plan here, David, and that goes beyond what she finds acceptable or not. My concern is how things will affect you, your public image, and your children. If Gillian doesn’t care that a young woman lets everyone know that she wants - an affair, or whatever - with you, or if Gillian herself just loves to rile people up on social media with all those innuendos-”
“Mel-” David tried to cut in.
“You know what I think about that, David. It will backfire eventually. You talk to me in a couple of years.”
He waved his hand dismissively. “It’s just for fun…”
“Until it isn’t just fun anymore. We have next to no control over social media. I can’t stop people from talking or spreading crazy rumors, and literally everything could get viral these days, no matter if it’s true or not.”
“And what am I supposed to do? We all know what she does keeps people interested in us and the brand. They want to know and see what we’re up to, especially while we're here in Vancouver. People want the banter. And of course,” he raised his hands and gave a half shrug, “they want to know how the baby's doing.”
“She uses your relationship and plays with your privacy, and I will never be a supporter of that. We’ve been through this time and time again. How come she just doesn’t want to learn anything from the past?”
“Hey, please give her a break. She just enjoys sharing tiny bits of our lives, and she likes to tease. That’s just how she is. I might not participate all the time, but I definitely won’t take that away from her. It doesn’t harm anyone.”
Melanie sighed and shook her head. It was useless. She’d left meetings with him and Gillian feeling like life had been sucked right out of her - not just once, but multiple times over the last fifteen years. While he usually wasn’t that much of a tough case, Gillian had the ability to talk you into the ground, and everything that was left of you, in the end, could be compared to a kitten who’d just gotten run over by a bulldozer.
It had gotten worse in the last two years, and Melanie knew that this was mostly due to her own doing. While she had no idea how on earth Gillian had found out or who’d told her, she knew that ever since Gillian learned that Melanie had advised David to stay quiet about his involvement in Gillian’s pregnancy, she’d lost her.
It had been a mistake, one that had hurt Gillian very bad, and one Melanie was trying to make up for it ever since, and if it was just for Eaden - that wonderful little girl that was the best thing that could’ve happened to David and Gillian. She would do everything in her power to keep her out of the spotlight and make sure she could live a normal, happy life. Because ultimately, that’s what David and Gillian both wanted for their daughter.
Melanie just didn’t understand why Gillian was acting so carelessly these days. She clearly had fun and was receiving the attention she was looking out for. But after so many years, she had to be aware that everything came with a price - right?!
“Okay, what do you need me to do?” David offered, taking her hand.
She huffed out a laugh and shook her head.
A knock on the door made them both jump, and without waiting for an invitation, the door was being pulled open and a tall man with long brown hair stepped into the trailer. Set life had always been more convenient than polite, Melanie remembered.
“Dave?” the guy asked, and his eyes grew wide when he spotted Melanie. “Oh, sorry! I don’t wanna disturb, but we need you on set.”
David looked up and furrowed his brow. They’d been told it would take another half an hour to finish setting up Mulder’s office for the next scene. “What, why?”
The man shrugged his shoulders, but his one corner of his mouth tilted up in a lopsided grin. “Hurry up, they’re waiting!”
David groaned. “I’ll be out in a minute, Fred,” he finally replied and waited until the man had disappeared before turning back to Melanie, looking at her with an apologetic smile. “Sorry. You want to come?”
With a light chuckle, she patted his hand, inhaled deeply and shook her head. “Thanks for the offer, but no,” she stood up and grabbed her coat. “But don’t you worry… you did what you could do. Everything else’s my job,” Melanie winked and turned for the door.
Just when she was about to open it, he stopped her with his hand on her shoulder and smiled as he took her coat and held it up so she could slip in.
“You keep me updated?” he asked and opened the door for her.
Melanie looked up at him and managed a weak smile. The whole situation had put much more stress on him than he was willing to admit. She knew him, very well actually. His first concern was always his family, and how his actions would affect every single member of it. And while it wasn’t his doing what had happened in the last twenty-four hours, Melanie was sure that if Gillian had reacted differently, she’d have much more work to do now. In that respect, he was just a normal man deeply in love with his woman.
Mulder’s office hadn’t been used for over 13 years, and that’s exactly what it looked like in 2015. That was the weirdest part about coming back; that nothing was looking the way David was used to. It was stupid, really. The show had ended a lifetime ago, and everything had changed since then. But this modern, half furnished, too tidy and too spacious office didn’t resonate well with him, and he couldn’t really pinpoint why.
Another thing David didn’t understand right away was how his baby daughter and Piper had ended up in the middle of all of this, and it took him a few moments to take the whole scene in.
Eaden was standing by the desk, still clad in her bright pink pajamas, bedhead at its finest, holding onto one of the blue chairs for dear life. Chris was standing a few feet behind her with a full-blown grin on his face while Piper was kneeling at the other end of the table in front of Eaden, waving her little sister nearer. And Dean, their camera first assistant, was filming everything with their documentary camcorder.
“This is our little girl Eaden, who’s so close to taking her very first steps,” Dean announced proudly and panned the camera away from Eaden to Piper, who gave him the thumbs up, “and that’s her big sister Piper, who took her first steps on this very same lot twenty years ago. Isn’t that cool y’all?”
“Although I was much younger than this lazy little cub,” Piper added with a laugh and extended her arms towards Eaden. The little one was just standing there with her feet wide apart, chewing on her fingers and looking cautiously up at the tall man with the unruly gray curls. “Come on, baby! Come to me!” Piper cheered exuberantly, trying to get Eaden’s attention.
David spotted Gillian to his right standing by the room divider, all dressed up as Scully and taking pictures of her daughters with her phone, her expression a mixture of sheer pride and childish excitement. He couldn’t help but grin at that sight. She was so darn precious.
Coming up behind her, David put his hand on Gillian’s waist and leaned down to whisper in her ear. “Hey, what’s happening here? Is she about to walk or are they just taking over our show?”
With a big smile sneaking up on her face, Gillian leaned back against him and shrugged her left shoulder. “Maybe both, I’m not so sure of the walking yet, though. She just woke up and Tina brought her in for her good morning kiss, but she wanted down and crawled around and all of a sudden, she pulled herself up and attempted to take her first step. She just put her foot forward, looked at it for a few seconds, and then pulled it back. She’s making it super thrilling here.”
“Hmm,” he hummed amusedly and pressed a chaste kiss to her cheek. “I wonder who she got that from; that streak for the dramatic.”
“Hey!” she lightly stabbed her elbow into his side, and after he winced almost dramatically, they fell into soft laughter and he pulled her closer to his chest.
“Come here, honey. You can do it! Just one step, sweetie!” Piper continued to encourage her little sister, who was now concentrating on Chris coming closer to her.
“She’s not gonna do it,” Gillian sighed, watching Chris squatting down beside Eaden and starting to rub her back.
“Nah, have some faith, Mom. She will, she will… although, can you see how she’s looking at Chris?” he nodded his head towards them, and they started to chuckle at the same time.
Eaden’s little face, the big, doubtful eyes and scrunched eyebrows were just too much. Chris and kids, that combination had always provided the best material for some good laughter. He was so, so nice and gentle with them, but unbelievably awkward at the same time. Piper had always loved him to pieces, but Eaden still wasn’t entirely convinced.
“There’s a fifty-fifty chance that in the next ten seconds, she’ll either start to cry or run away from him. My bet is on the crying, though.”
Gillian chuffed a laugh through her nose and nodded.
He crouched down a bit and rested his head against hers, his gaze shifting between her phone and her face. She was concentrating hard, tilting the device from one side to the other, then tapping on the screen repeatedly to try to get her daughters, and Chris, in focus.
It was moments like this that made him the happiest, simply because she was happy.
For a long time, David had wished he could bottle those moments and feelings up and pull them out whenever needed - whenever she was unhappy, or whenever he’d made her sad again. But over the years, he’d learned to concentrate more on the present, on what he was doing and what was happening now instead of holding too tightly onto the past. Cherishing each moment, each memory, whether they were good or bad, but trying his best to make good decisions for everybody’s happiness and joy, that’s what he was concentrating on nowadays.
“Oh!” Gillian’s eyes widened, and David looked up to watch Eaden putting her right foot forward while Chris slowly let go of her. “David!” she breathed almost inaudibly, too scared that she would break some kind of spell if she spoke any louder. He gave her an affectionate squeeze, letting her know that he was just as excited as she was.
When Eaden’s little foot hit the ground, they both gasped and held their breaths. She was standing up all by herself now without any support, and the whole room had gone completely quiet with everyone’s eyes glued to Eaden, who was cautiously putting more weight on her right leg.
And then everything happened so unbelievably fast, almost too fast for a 15-month-long wait.
She lifted the other leg, and all of a sudden, she was standing a whole step away from Chris, arms outstretched to her sides to help maintain her balance, mouth and eyes wide open in both awe and shock at what just happened.
“There you go, girl!” Piper laughed and clapped her hands.
Realizing that Gillian was just staring at the girls by now and had completely forgotten about her phone, David reached over her shoulder and took a couple of pictures for her.
She just nodded her thank you, too awestruck to say anything in that moment, and sniffled. He was sure that she was already crying, and that someone would need to redo her makeup before they could start to shoot the last scene in here. Not that it mattered; not in the slightest.
The only thing that mattered was their little girl with that huge smile taking another wobbly step and then a third, getting more and more confident with herself, and determined to reach her sister’s waiting arms. He couldn’t be any prouder.
“We have a toddler, babe,” David whispered, and Gillian took a deep, shaky breath, before answering, “We sure do.”
And what a toddler they had all of a sudden.
By the time Gillian was done for the day, Eaden was able to walk along the whole length of her mother’s trailer and was immovable of her decision to do it over and over again, much to the dismay of her nanny Tina.
The rest of the day was, to put it mildly, exhausting beyond words.
From the point Gillian had strapped her daughter into her car seat and headed off for lunch with an old friend, the little girl wouldn’t stop screaming until Gillian sat her down and let her run loose. Which had made having a decent conversation or time to eat in peace almost entirely impossible.
With her mother hot on her heels, Eaden walked to everything and everyone she found even remotely interesting, and even though she wasn’t very fast yet, she was tripping over her own feet very, very often, which lead to quite a few tears over the course of the day.
After settling the boys for the night, both tired to their bones due to an adventurous day at a children's camp out in the forest, Gillian contemplated whether she should run herself a bubble bath or simply crash on the couch to watch whatever bad soap opera she happened to come across first.
But she was restless, agitated even despite the long, draining day and the short night prior to it.
Shortly after Eaden and Felix had finally fallen asleep in her bed last night, Gillian went downstairs to give her assistant Alison a call, who’d unsuccessfully tried to reach her while she almost got knocked out by one of Eaden’s knees.
From what Alison had told her alone she wouldn’t have been able to fall back to sleep right away, but then David came home, joined her on the couch, buried his head into her lap and started to talk for the next hour.
Now that the house was quiet and she had nothing to do, Gillian was slowly starting to process everything that had happened in the last 24 hours. And all she wanted to do now was burying her own head into the warmth of his lap and let it all go.
She was sitting at the kitchen counter, chewing on the straw she’d put in her can of Red Bull when she heard someone coming in the front door at around 8 pm.
Piper was mustering her mother and that faraway look of hers suspiciously when she entered the kitchen and let her heavy backpack slide to the floor.
“Hey, baby. How are you?” Gillian asked and ran her hand over her face in an effort to pull herself out of her reverie.
“Hey, I’m good, but busted. Is everything alright?” Piper retorted and headed for the fridge. Her entire shirt was covered with splashes of red paint.
Must’ve been a busy day for her as well, Gillian determined as she watched her daughter retrieving a bottle of coke, and began to nod slowly. “Yeah, I’m just… I can’t sleep.”
“Still too excited?” Piper grinned and took a swig, but Gillian gave her a questioning look. “Because Eaden’s walking now?”
“Oh that, yes... yeah,” Gillian chuckled. “But, um…” she licked her lips. “Would you mind terribly looking after Eaden and the boys for a couple of hours? They’re already in bed.”
“Umm, no. No, I wouldn’t mind. I just wanted to watch some TV before going to bed anyway. Why? You wanna go out?”
Gillian nodded with a smirk. “I think I’d like to surprise someone.”
The parking lot of the Rooster’s Country Cabaret was filled with trucks and trailers, so Gillian parked at the nearest McDonalds, bought herself and Rob, the elder security guard standing in front at the parking lot, a coffee and walked over.
The air had cooled considerably in the last couple of hours, and Gillian was glad she’d put on her black leather jacket over her sleeveless dress and had chosen the knee boots over the heels. With this outfit, she might’ve been able to convince Chris to let Scully do a lap-dance after all, she thought and snickered to herself. Not that she was intending to go anywhere near him again tonight, or anyone on set for that matter. Except for one.
Rob had no problem to let her sneak into David’s trailer, happy with his warm beverage and the quick hug he’d been given.
They were still laughing hard when they stepped out of the stuffy, hot club and into the cool summer night, having had one of the best and most memorial shooting nights thanks to Mitch, Tom, Dean and Bruce. And, of course, the mushroom stamp.
Honky-Tonk Mulder with his eagle shirt, the cowboy hat and the girls dancing around him really was the weirdest thing David had done in a very long time. And that was pretty telling.
“Hey, some people and I will have a drink Downtown, just to unwind a bit. You wanna come?” she offered, and he stared at her for a couple of moments before he found his voice again.
“Um,” David chuckled nervously and averted his eyes to the ground. At this point in his life and at his age, he found himself actually blushing at such an offer. He cleared his throat. “Uh, thank you, Dani. Sounds fun, but I have to pass. I just want to go home to my-, to Gillian and Eaden.”
“Oh, okay. I hope I… didn’t cause you too much trouble and that’s why you can’t come? Because Gillian thinks we-”
“Oh no,” he was quick to reply. “No. Don’t worry, she had a good laugh over it,” he nodded reassuringly, knowing she was genuinely worried. “But I’m old, and I can't wait for to hit the pillow. And if I’m lucky, there might even be a massage in store for me,” he winked.
“Oh, you wouldn’t want to miss that!”
They laughed and stopped, both turning to face each other.
David shook his head. “No, I really don’t.”
“So… I guess I see you tomorrow?”
“You will. I will not disappoint you, I promise!” he grinned, referring to the dance sequence they would shoot tomorrow.
“I’m sure you won’t. Good night, David.”
“Night, Daniela,” he raised his hand to wave at her and turned, heading to his trailer on the other end of the parking lot.
A change of clothing and a quick beer and he would be out of here, David thought, walking up the stairs to his trailer and opening the door while pulling his phone out of his back pocket.
He didn’t look up when he closed the door and started to text his driver when suddenly, two arms came up around his waist and pulled him backward.
David jolted and gasped, almost dropping his cell, his heart beating fast in his chest until he looked down at himself and found two small, familiar hands making their way up his torso. That’s when he finally took a deep breath, and her wonderful scent filled his nose.
“Jesus!” he exhaled, reaching up to interlace their fingers right over his heart. She gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
“Hmm?” she hummed against his back.
“You scared me.”
“A little girl like me can scare a big guy like you?”
He didn’t answer, but brought her hand up to his lips before turning around to look at her.
“Hey,” he said, the surprise evident in his face. Now that he could see her, and her radiant appearance, it was a rather good surprise. Her outfit was a dark, dangerous contrast to the blond hair spilling over her shoulders in soft waves. She wasn’t wearing any makeup except for dark mascara. “Wow, you look-” he let his eyes fell over her perfect collarbones to the soft swell of her breasts and licked his lips. “Wow.”
She pressed herself against him, her nose brushing along his neck up to his ear followed by her hot, moist breath causing goosebumps to erupt everywhere.
“I thought you had your heart set on a quiet night at home.”
“Yeah,” she murmured, starting to nibble at his earlobe. “We can do that later.”
He closed his eyes at the sensation of her wet little tongue teasing the sensitive patch of skin behind his ear, and his groin tightened.
She was on fire tonight, and he was the last one to ask more questions than necessary at this point. She was here, hands tucking impatiently at his fly and a pair of soft, full lips had just landed on his mouth. What else did he need to know?
“You’re hard,” she said matter-of-factly, but needed to squeeze him through his jeans to get his attention.
“Huh?” David stammered, fidgeting with her dress, trying to pull it over her thighs. Why was this thing so fucking long?
“You are hard, Mr. Duchovny. Are you hard for another woman?”
“What?” he cried out, his eyes big and dark. “No!”
“Hmm,” she gave him another squeeze, and he buried his head into her neck, almost as if to hide. “Are you sure that all these hot young girls dancing around you didn’t cause this? Were they touching you? I bet they were.” With his fly now open, she reached inside, finding him hot and pulsating beneath his trunks.
“Did they turn you on?” she asked, her voice incredibly sultry. When he didn’t react again, she grabbed him by the balls. “I know they’d turn me on.”
He growled into her neck, his knees weakening by the second. God, what was she doing? Trying to kill him?
“It did turn me on,” he whispered when he finally found a way inside her dress. Having her soft skin underneath his fingers made him feel much more confident to play along.
“Hmm, naughty. So, so naughty.” He felt like crying when she pulled her hand out of his pants, and he squeezed the flesh of her hips to keep her close. She peered up at him; accusingly, defiantly, playfully - he couldn’t really decide, but it made his cock surge with desire.
A goofy smile began to spread across her face. Uh-oh, David’s eyes widened.
Slowly, oh so slowly, she squatted down in front of him, taking his pants with her and letting them fall to his feet.
“I think,” she tucked her fingers into the elastic waistband of his boxers, “I need to remind you,” she pulled, and his erection sprang free, “of a thing… or two.”
David swallowed, feeling excitement ripple through him. “What do I need to be reminded of?”
She puckered her lips, tilted her head to the side and ran her fingertips over the exposed skin of her neck.
“Fuck,” he growled beyond himself. Gillian’s idea of punishment was a wicked one, but it was always working.
One of her hands landed on his upper thigh, bracing herself on it while she wrapped the other around his thick shaft, her thumb swiping over his sensitive glans. She tucked at him once, twice, and then let go, raising her hand and sticking her digit into her mouth.
And then she hummed. She hummed in pleasure and closed her eyes.
Jesus.
Yes, he remembered. He remembered very well how much she liked his taste.
“Yeah,” she nodded as if she was able to read his mind.
She released her thumb with a plop, sucked her cheeks in and ejected a gush of saliva onto her fingers before putting them back around his penis.
“Oh,” he reached behind himself for something to hold onto, anything to steady himself with. He didn’t find anything, so he tangled his fingers into her hair.
She raised her eyebrow at him. “Mr. Duchovny, are you swaying? Not because of me, right?” she asked innocently.
“Hunn,” he grunted, wondering when exactly her mouth had come so close to his erection. Did he pull her towards it? No, he didn’t, right?
Oh well, she was grinning now. He actually did pull her closer to his cock.
“Good boy,” she praised and slid her lips over the head of his penis, feeling him tighten his grip on her hair. She looked up expectantly, but he didn’t make a move, even started to tremble from the effort of holding still.
She let her tongue swirl around the underside of his head a couple of times, lubricating it before taking him in deeper and pressing him up against the roof of her mouth.
“Fuck, Gillian,” David finally found his voice again. He gently rocked his hips against her, knowing that she had everything under control thanks to that brilliant little tongue of hers. God, how lucky was he that the woman he loved enjoyed this so much?
She cupped the hand with which she’d steadied herself around the base and squeezed lightly, creating pressure to direct more blood flow to the head.
The sensation increased immediately, and he moaned out loud.
“Fuck, Gillian.” Didn’t he just say that a couple of moments ago? “Babe,” he tried again, cradling her cheek with his other hand. “I wanna…”
“Hmm?” she hummed before slowly releasing him. “You want what?”
“Touch you. I want to touch you.”
“Is that so?” she teased, licking her way along his erection and down to his balls and without warning, sucked one of them into her mouth.
“Fuuhuuck, babe, come here. Please, come here,” he begged and pulled at her jacket, needing to kiss her so, so badly.
After giving his glans a last, lingering kiss, she slowly stood up and smiled at him. God, she was beautiful.
“Oh, so compliant all of a sudden,” he said and pulled her against him with one arm around her waist while the other pushed her jacket off her shoulders. “Is this dress new?”
She shrugged her shoulders, and her jacket fell to the floor. “Maybe.”
He pushed her back and let his eyes wander over her. It was a really, really tight dress, reminding him of one she’d worn for a photoshoot a couple of years ago. Yeah, he was good at remembering these things.
She suddenly grabbed his wrist and pulled him down, capturing his lips with hers. She tasted of coffee and of himself. So incredibly good.
She clutched for his ass; flesh hard, skin soft. She’d never met a man with such soft skin in her entire life. How was this even possible, she wondered.
He groaned into her mouth and reached around her, finding a zipper in the middle of her back.
It would’ve required just a minimum of common sense to not be surprised that she wasn’t wearing any underwear underneath this tight little thing, but apparently, he just didn’t have it. Not at this point anyway.
“Oh fuck,” David uttered, not able to stop saying it over and over again. “You’re breathtaking, you know that, right?”
Truth was, she didn’t feel all that breathtaking the majority of the time. She knew that she was good-looking, but she’d always wondered what it was about her that was driving this man completely crazy. She could act as cool as she wanted, but the fact that he wanted her, and just her, would always bring her down to earth, and flood her with so much gratitude and joy she was barely able to breathe.
He had her in his arms before she knew it, carrying her over to the couch they’d slept countless of times on in the last couple of weeks.
And suddenly, she was lying underneath him. His head had disappeared between her legs, and she was only able to feel – his breath on her inner thighs, his mouth placing gentle kisses on her outer lips, and then, finally, his tongue diving into her slit.
“David,” she sighed, bucking her hips into his face.
She couldn’t think clearly anymore by the time one of his fingers entered her, the sensation too good, too overwhelming. This was not what she had planned, but much, much better. Sometimes, it was good to lose control and to trust someone else to take the lead.
He was moving his face from side to side, up and down. His fingers were kneading the curves of her ass, his tongue tracing her outer lips and his lips sucking on her clit.
Her legs started to quiver around his head and she was whimpering for her release. He slowly made his way up, kissing her stomach and gently biting her nipples, just how he knew she liked it, before lifting her legs onto the mattress.
He climbed over her and smiled when he came to a rest between her legs.
Her cheeks were flushed, mouth slightly open. “So beautiful,” he whispered, and this really was his most favorite sight.
“Oh god,” she mumbled as he pushed into her, sinking deep into her warmth.
David held her close for a couple of moments, enjoying to be surrounded by her tight walls before starting to rock against her.
Gillian was incredibly relaxed now, responding to every thrust he gave her with a soft moan. She wrapped her legs around his waist, dug her nails into his back and started to kiss him again.
Nothing about this was rushed anymore. It was two people savoring the sensation of being connected, making love in every conceivable way.
They came quietly with their fingers tightly interlaced beside her head, and she was still shaking even after he’d slid out of her and gathered her close to his chest.
She was still exhausted, but her body was finally calming down.
“I’m so deep into loving you as anyone could be,” he whispered, and she raised her head slightly off his shoulder, eyes sparkling with amusement. He chuckled and squeezed her affectionately. “I remember reading that in a poem when I was fourteen, thinking that if I’d ever find a girl so special, then…” he went silent, biting his lower lip.
“Then?” she prompted, her eyebrow raised high.
He shook his head. “I-, I never got that far. I guess my final conclusion was that I would either never find someone like that or never know if I actually did. Or that it was just a phrase every other overly romantic fourteen-year-old boy would dig. Nothing with actual substance.”
“Hmm,” she nodded thoughtfully. “What do you think now?”
“I think that I have never said it to anyone else. And it feels very, very good right now.”
“I love you,” she said and rested her head back on his shoulder. “And I want to tell you something, too.”
“Hmm?”
“We just got the green light for Streetcar in New York next year,” Gillian whispered, and now it was his turn to raise his head, watching her hand tracing tiny circles on his chest. She licked her lips before she continued to speak. “And, after that,” she inhaled deeply, “I really want to move in with you.”

There were very few things as satisfying as hearing confirmation of a deed well done.  For far too long, the name ‘Jones’ had given him a deep-seated hatred for all things cop.  Well, being the head of an international crime syndicate was more than enough reason to hate cops, but luckily for him, a deal had been brokered and it was done.
When Jones had relocated to the states and become a cop, he had been on him almost instantly.  It started out small, tit for tat, arresting a few of his men here and there and making his presence known.  Gold knew he was watching him, Jones had even gone as far as to tell him face to face in a very public restaurant, and at first, Gold had found it endearing.  He knew he was untouchable.  He hadn’t built a crime empire because he had been put off by one cop.
Over the years, Jones became a problem.  More than a few of his good men were now in prison, and for their silence and discretion, Gold paid them by taking care of their families on the outside.  It was becoming increasingly more costly to take care of old employees and hire new ones.  And good guys didn’t come cheap, their skills tailoring to one specialty that meant he would have to hire multiple men for a single job.  Gold missed the days gangsters and thieves had their fingers in many, many pies.
And then there were the dirty cops he kept on the books, just as expensive as the next drug runner or hitman.  They helped him out of many predicaments, simply sweeping his deeds under the carpet where they were lost in cold cases.  For years, Gold managed to grow, expanding his reach across America, selling drugs, weapons, people, whatever he could to make a profit.  Mr. Gold was his real name and he lived up to his wealth every single day, appearing only dressed in fine, fitted suits, always cleanly shaven and never without his cane.  It was expensive, one of a kind and custom made, and despite the fact he had zero need for it, Gold always liked to use it to give the impression of weakness.
If your enemy underestimated your strength, it made it easier to overthrow them.
But then, the young rookie with a hero complex named Jones appeared in his life and Gold began to notice a change.  His men began to shy away from his orders, questioning his motives because they were seemingly afraid of this Jones character.  It irritated Gold, so naturally, he had tried to buy the cop off.  Jones declined his offer and with some choice words, the pair began their conflict.
It continued for years and he watched the rookie grow into a detective, given more power with his new job title and more access to dig into Gold’s life.  Jones made it his personal mission to bring Gold down, using every single free moment he had to find ways to mess with him.
Jones had once said something about killing his parents, believing Gold responsible for the night they were gunned down in an alleyway and stripped of their valuables.  Gold didn’t remember everyone he had murdered when he was starting his empire, especially two nobodies who were probably just a means to an end, so with a sideways smirk and a dead-eye stare, Gold had told him he hadn’t been the one to pull the trigger and had Jones escorted from his office.
Finally, Gold had endured enough and wanted Jones gone.  The man couldn’t be bought.  He was a very large thorn in Gold’s side and on top of all of his agitation, Gold had to spend even more money to take him out.
Killing a cop didn’t come cheap.
The office Gold frequented was always dark and cold.  Dust covered every surface and the lights were dimmed all along the hallway.  Gold had no heavies guarding him, his office at the very back of the shop Gold kept as a money laundering front.  It was inconspicuous, a simple antique store from the outside, selling many high priced items that covered part of his underhanded business earnings, and Gold had settled here to be alone.  People always called him The Dark One and it was starting to become clear as to why.
The door loomed at the end of the hall, one single light hanging over the door frame and shining a spot of subdued orange onto the floor.  It was a mark, the last circle of light in the darkness.  And it was petrifying.
The door opened and Gold stood with a steady grin spread across his face.
“Detective,” he greeted, motioning into the blackened room behind him.
“Gold.”  With a nod, the detective squeezed past Gold, entering the darkened room that instantly felt even colder than the hall.
“To what do I owe this pleasure?” Gold pushed the door closed behind them, unable to stop the sly smile on his face.  He took a step into the room, leaning on his cane resting in front of him.
“It’s done,” the detective said quickly, looking at his feet and scratching at the scruff on his chin before pushing his hands into his pockets.
“Straight to the point, detective.  I like it,” Gold grinned, enjoying the way he could hear the detective’s heartbeat pounding in his chest.
“I don’t want to be here any longer than I need to be.  It’s done.”
“Is it now?”  Gold licked his lips, his sinister voice hanging thick in the air.
“I saw the body myself.”
“That was part of the deal,” Gold smirked, watching the detective squirm under his gaze.
“You bastard! He was my colleague, a fellow detective,” the raised tone of his voice cracked under his emotion.
In a flash, Gold was at his side, cane digging into the top of his foot through his boot and a strangled cry tumbling from his mouth.  “You should have thought of that before you joined him in his crusade,” Gold spat.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean…”
“Uh Uh Uh,” Gold chimed, removing his cane from the detective's foot and grabbing the man by the face, his nail digging into his chubby cheeks.  Gold didn’t have to say anything else.  The detective was silenced immediately and Gold loosened his grip, giving him a playful slap on the face.
“Jones was a good man, a good detective…”
“Jones was hell-bent on ruining me,” Gold growled, banging his cane on the floor with an echo.  “Nobody will know it was you,” Gold assured the sweating detective.  “You’ll get a new partner and everything will blow over when this turns into a cold case.”
“Why me?  I have a family,” he implored.
“We all have our price,” Gold grinned, turning away.  “Yours just happens to be a lot lower than I had expected.”
“So our deal is done now?  Is my debt cleared?”
Gold laughed, a sadistic rumble in the back of his throat and he shook his head.  “I want one more thing,” Gold smiled wickedly, pressing a long, bony finger to his lips and stepping towards the shorter man once more.  When he gave him a questioning look, Gold bared his teeth.  “Say it.”
“Say what?”
“Say it.  Out loud.  I want to revel in the joy of the words as they fall from your mouth,” Gold twirled his hand in the air beside his head and spun on his heels, his dramatics bordering on joyously evil.
“I…”
“Yes, that’s it, go on,” Gold whispered darkly.
“I...I killed Liam Jones.”
An impish giggle escaped Gold’s lips and he slapped the detective on the shoulder proudly,  licked his lips and looked over at the shaking detective.  God, he loved breaking people.  “There, there, Leroy,” he said in a sickly sweet tone that made Leroy’s skin crawl.  “Now we are even.”
It was not long after the older Jones had met his demise when the younger Jones began snooping around, digging into his brother’s case files, connecting the dots.  Gold had a muscle in his jaw that he hadn’t flexed since the day Liam Jones had been gunned down by an ‘unknown assailant’.  He had learned to relax it, keep his anger at bay and focus on the more intricate sides of his business.  Until now.
Killian Jones was more tenacious, a little smarter and not as hot-headed as the older Jones.  It made him a more dangerous adversary, one that Gold could not give an inch.  Where Liam was a bull, rushing in and aggressively threatening Gold with what little power he actually did have, Killian was a fox, picking off Gold’s men one by one like chickens in a hen house.
If he didn’t stop the younger Jones soon, he could become a real credible threat to the Gold empire.
“They attend the Nolan Charity Gala every year,” his henchman grunted, handing Gold a photo of Killian Jones exiting his home in a fine tuxedo suit and his pretty girlfriend on his arm.  “They have to attend,” he tapped the picture when Gold rested it on the desk.  “This is Emma Swan.”
“The wife?” Gold looked up at him.
“She wishes,” he scoffed.  “Her brother is David Nolan.”
“Interesting,” Gold looked back to the photo.  “And you can make this look like an accident?”
The man, Hyde, nodded confidently.  “Absolutely.  I have the perfect guy.  He owes me.”
Gold’s face lit up at the prospect of a deal.  “You have a negotiation?”
“We will have,” Hyde shrugged.  “Jefferson has a very low price.”
The impish giggle that Gold was so known for escaped through his gleaming grin.  “The Gala is Friday night,” Gold said seriously, losing his smile and sliding the photo back across the table.  “Make sure he does not make it.”
“Of course, Mr. Gold.  Consider Killian Jones a dead man.”

Georgia Deputy FIRED Over Excessive Force Used Against Passenger Roderick Walker In Viral Video, Family Demands Release Of Mr. Walker
Tumblr media
A Clayton County, Georgia sheriff’s deputy has been fired after viral videos of him using excessive force on a black man - named Roderick Walker - set social media ablaze. Earlier reports suggested he was a Lyft passenger, but the company says the incident didn’t happen during a ride-share trip. All the deets inside…
UPDATE:
BREAKING: According to attorneys, 25,000 bond granted for Roderick Walker...the man punched by Clayton County Sheriff’s Deputy in viral video.@wsbtv pic.twitter.com/L00dHLWD1x

According to WSB-TV journalist Audrey Washington, a $25,000 bond has been granted for Roderick Walker.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the weekend, a video of an unarmed black man named Roderick Walker being physically attacked by two sheriff’s deputies in Clayton County, Georgia went viral. One of the deputies was fired Sunday (September 13th) for “excessive use of force” after he was showed repeatedly striking the 26-year-old man and injuring him as a woman (believed to be his girlfriend or cousin) and children (believed to be his kids) watched in horror.
“The Deputy who repeatedly struck Roderick Walker is being terminated from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office by order of Sheriff Victor Hill for excessive use of force,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Two officers were involved, but only one of them have been terminated at this time.
The shocking incident reportedly occurred outside of the Georgia Department of Public Health vital records near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Friday evening (September 11th). In the clip, you can see the two officers manhandling Roderick, pinning him down and placing him in the chokehold while Roderick struggled to breathe.
”He bit my hand,” one of the officers is heard saying.
“I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die. I can’t breathe,” Roderick is heard yelling as the officers continued to assault him, knocking him unconscious twice. You can see the incident in several videos below.

Before the deputy was fired, the Clayton County Police Department let the community know that they were aware of the incident and that an “internal investigation” had been launched:
The Clayton County Police Department is aware of the social media video depicting what appears to be Sheriff’s deputies...
Posted by Clayton County Police Department on Saturday, September 12, 2020
"The Clayton County Police Department is aware of the social media video depicting what appears to be Sheriff’s deputies appearing to use physical force against a male citizen. The deputies depicted in this video are not employed by the Clayton County Police Department,” the statement read.
”These deputies are employed by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is aware of the incident as well and have begun an internal investigation.”
It was initially reported Roderick Walker – a father of four – was a passenger using the ride-sharing car service Lyft along with a woman (believed to be his girlfriend or cousin). It’s alleged the driver was pulled over due to a tail light being out. Apparently, the driver didn’t have his driver’s license, so the cops started to question Roderick and the woman in the car with them, requesting them to show their IDs.
Roderick then questioned the officers why he needed to show his ID when he wasn’t driving and didn’t do anything wrong. The officers asked Roderick to step out of the car and that’s when all hell broke loose.
Lyft caught wind of the video and tweeted they were investigating. Later, they confirmed the incident did NOT occur “during a Lyft ride.” Peep their tweets below:
UPDATE: Thank you all for your active involvement. We confirmed this did not happen during a Lyft ride, but we unequivocally stand against racism and unnecessary use of force. We are in contact w/ @Georgia_NAACP to lend our support.
— Lyft (@lyft) September 12, 2020
”The incident depicted in this video is deeply disturbing. We’ve launched an investigation in an effort to identify and lend support to the rider and driver involved. If you have info that could help to determine who they are, please DM us.”
”UPDATE: Thank you all for your active involvement. We confirmed this did not happen during a Lyft ride, but we unequivocally stand against racism and unnecessary use of force. We are in contact w/ @Georgia_NAACP to lend our support.”
After the assault, Roderick Walker was charged with multiple counts of obstruction and battery in connection with the incident. He was beaten badly and he has the bruises to prove it:

Heartbreaking.
Shean Williams – Roderick’s attorney – wants all the charges against his client to be dropped and he wants the deputies involved in the incident to be arrested and charged.
"The people that need to be in jail are the off that attacked him and violated his civil rights," Williams said. "It escalates to him being beaten to the ground, tased and almost dying... And they take him to jail."
Georgia NAACP Vice President Gerald Griggs also made demands for Roderick to be released:

Roderick is still behind bars because he allegedly has a felony probation warrant for cruelty to children filed in Fulton County. According to police, Roderick also had a warrant out due to alleged possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Fulton and a failure to appear warrant in Hapeville.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement:
The Sheriff ordered a signature bond courtesy for Mr. Walker 48 hours ago. Unfortunately, Mr. Walker has a felony probation warrant out of Fulton County for Cruelty to Children, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and a Failure to Appear warrant out of Hapeville which resulted in Magistrate Court denying him a bond. Mr. Walker’s legal counsel will have to resolve these issues to secure his release.
Mr. Walker has received medical treatment to include x-rays (no fractures detected) of his head and is being monitored at the jail hospital by a doctor.
The Walker Family also demanded he be released on the charges they gave him from the beating incident:
Despite the charges Roderick Walker may have had against him before he was attacked by police, he didn't deserve to be beat unconscious (twice) for not showing his identification. Period.  Reportedly, passengers in Georgia are not legally required to show identification.  And if there's an exception to this rule, issuing a citation would have sufficed.

to grief:
I haven’t written here in a while and I think it’s because I’ve felt less sad about life in general. Yea, there are still days where I feel like I’ll never find happiness, but those days don’t out number the ones where I truly feel content. That is until this week.
I’ve loved watching glee since the beginning. The characters are the same age as me so as I went through high school, it felt like I really knew these characters and are going through it with them. At first, I really loved glee for the songs and the humour and even the teen drama that seemed so relatable yet far fetched to me. My high school had musical theatre, which I was very much involved in, and my friends and I weren’t bullied for it. In fact, we were praised. We were the cool kids and even got away with avoiding school work because the drama teacher loved us so much and would call our other teachers for us.
Just like the glee characters, there were a lot of “incest” hookups and drama caused by who was dating who and who liked who and who kissed who. But it was a nice way to bond with people who are seniors and get invited to cool parties.
During the time I watched glee, I realized more and more how much I enjoyed watching Santana’s character. She was witty, sarcastic, and had a no fucks given attitude that always kept her 100% real. I pride myself in trying to be as real as possible so she was definitely a character I drew towards. Throughout the years, even during the horrible season 5 and 6, I still kept up watching the show, mostly watching for Santana. I’d like to say she carried the show, but reality is I saw a lot of myself in her. The more I watched, the more I became interested in the actors. I’ve always wanted to be famous - I mean I did audition for Disney once. So I’ve found myself drawn to the actors, especially Naya Rivera who played Santana on the show. I’ve imagined ways I’d bump into the cast and how that’ll easily transition into a friendship. So I guess my imagination really brought us closer than we were.
During COVID-19 and quarantine, I decided to rewatch glee again. The convenience of Netflix and me being laid off gave me insomnia and glee was the perfect fix. I get to sing along and relive my high school years and remember why I loved this show so much. I once again started imagining what it would be like if I moved to LA and how I’d be able to befriend them, even after all these years. My obsession came back as if no years has passed between high school and now. So when the news of Naya Rivera’s passing broke, that hit me hard.
I’ve never understood why people mourned celebrities they’ve never met. I know people cried when Michael Jackson died or when Whitney Houston died. But I never understood it. How can you feel for someone so deeply if you’ve never met them and you don’t even know who they really are? I guess now I know how it feels.
During the days she went missing, I constantly refreshed every social media page I had and the other cast members to see if I would receive any updated news. I constantly had the gut wrenching feeling in the pit of my stomach. I couldn’t shake it off no matter how hard I tried.
When the press conference finally announced they found a body in the lake and it was her, I lost sense of reality. It was like time stopped and I didn’t want to believe this was real. I constantly felt sad, and every time I refreshed my social media, someone was mourning her which made me more sad. I couldn’t control the tears that were falling down my face and I couldn't, still can’t, grasp exactly why it hit me so hard. She will always be a part of my growing up and I will forever thank her for the excitement she brought me through her character. But that’s not the only reason why I’m sad.
I’ve always been terrified of death. When I went to church as a kid, a youth pastor pulled each of us aside and explained the concept of heaven. I broke down crying and couldn’t understand what that meant and how that was guaranteed. “Will I see my mom and dad again?”, I asked. I couldn’t fathom that this life ends and that everything I know or have will disappear and I won’t even know or feel it. So to me, everything that means ANYTHING to me at all, I try not to think about it ending. Almost like everything related to me can escape death. So when I found out about Naya, my reaction was, what do you mean she’s gone? How can she be alive yesterday and gone today? I literally just saw her Instagram story and her tweeting. I didn’t, and still don’t, quite understand it.
As you can probably tell, I haven’t lost a lot of people in my life, or at least people I remember losing. The closest to my memory would be my aunt who was battling cancer, but I was very young and the only grief I remember having is seeing my mother in the back seat of the car bawling her eyes out after hearing a certain song on our way to go fishing. I’d never forget that look.
And as I continued my grief, silently of course, because my Asian parents would never understand, I thought I’d reach out to my best friend. He’s very special to me and someone that I really fell in love with. The last person I ever loved til this day. We always played phone tag and would check in on each other every now and then. We would always try to be happy for each other on whatever we’re up to and try to encourage each other to chase our dreams. We’re both Gemini’s so we’re ambitious like that. To my surprise, he responded “who is this”. This never happens, because he usually says its him and he knows my number since I haven’t changed it since 2012. That’s when I get a call from him.
I was hesitant to answer at first because I was nervous. I always got nervous around him, even after all these years. But when I picked up, a woman answered. To be honest, I thought it was his girlfriend and she didn't want me messaging him. He always had a lot of girlfriends, some were crazier than others so I wasn’t too surprised. But, it wasn’t. I wish it was a crazy girlfriend. Instead, it was his mom.
His mom remembered my name, I even met her once. I was happy to hear that he talked about me to her because it shows that I meant something to him. But I cannot believe what she said next.
“Carter passed away on July 3, we actually had a funeral last Thursday.”
What. The. Fuck.
As I continue to stutter and apologize for having to put his mom in this situation, I can’t help but wonder what happened. So as I tiptoed around the subject I finally asked, “was it sudden?”
“He killed himself. I try to be honest about it. I don’t know if he told you about his mental health problems, but he’s been sad for a long time.”
I knew about his depression and mental health struggles. I knew that he had a rough childhood and he resented his dad for leaving him. He fought with his mom all the time, and she kicked him out on multiple occasions. But he found love from his grandparents, which are who he stayed with most of the time. I knew all this, but I didn't realize how bad it had gotten. I wish I had.
Ever since we were kids, I’ve always tried to be a good influence to him. I even tried to convince him to come to summer school with me, which let’s be honest, he barely showed up for school during the year and that was mandatory so why would he ever go to summer school. But he entertained the idea for me, like he always did with everything I suggested. I guess he didn’t want to disappoint me. And as we grew up and grew apart, mostly because he moved and changed schools a million times and I went off to University in a different province, we still kept in touch. He has always struggled with finding a passion and what he wanted to do with his life. First he wanted to make music, which he did for a while, then he turned to art. I thought this would be his biggest break through, his art was amazing. I suggested he should be a tattoo artist since he loved tattoos and is clearly good at drawing. So when we chatted back in March of 2019, he had let me know he is restructuring himself and even went to an open house at OCAD and centennial to enrol if he doesn’t hear back from a tattoo apprenticeship. Then December 2019 came around and he let me know he was in a transitional phase with his art and might want to go into animation so he could work from home. He even suggested he’d come visit me in Montreal. I know he never would, but just the fact that he suggested made me so happy. We even tried to make plans to meet up, I really wish I had pressed him for these plans because maybe he needed to see me for a reason.
Nothing until now had been a red flag for me. I tried to always be positive and whatever dream he was chasing after next, I tried to be supportive and reaffirm that he did have talent and he will figure it out. But in February, his art on Instagram had taken a darker turn. I didn’t notice at first because he posted sporadically and also the Instagram algorithm only gives you a piece a time so if you didn’t go on his profile you wouldn't see the full picture. But his Instagram story caught my eye. It was a post along the lines of if he died, no one would even care. I immediately messaged him letting him know I would. He said thank you and quickly changed the topic to visiting me again in Montreal. I should’ve said something more. I should've called him because he clearly wasn’t being honest.
When I moved back home this summer thanks to COVID, something inside of me kept telling me to text him. If only I had texted him a couple of weeks earlier. If only I had reached out to him then. Maybe, this would’ve changed everything.
I always thought we would’ve found our way back into each others lives. I’ve played over a million scenarios in my head of how we’d be as close as we were back in high school. I even imagined the day I had the guts to tell him how much I’ve loved him and how long I loved him for. But now I’ll never get the chance.
I wish he saw how much he meant to me. How I’d smile when I see his name come up on my blackberry messenger with an incoming text. Or when he’d call me babe even though we weren’t dating. A friend who read over my shoulder used to laugh at me because the way we texted sounded cheesier and more in a relationship than my friend and her actual boyfriend. He always thought he was a ball of darkness, but he never knew how much light he brought into my life. To me, he’ll always be that kid we spent hours in Toys R Us sitting in children couches, hiding from the staff and talking about life. The goofy guy who photobombed a family at the CNE, and when the family saw, they just laughed because that’s just how charming he was. The guy who my parents picked up from his house to drive us to the movies and they even caught us, you behind me with your arms around me while we waited to be picked up (my mother immediately decided to have the birds and the bees talk with me the next day at a Swiss Chalet, thanks for that). And as we got older, we promised to marry each other if we were still single by 30, it was one of those promises we made to each other prompted by a silly rom com. But he didn’t even hesitate. He even agreed to have a skydiving wedding with me and say “I Do” in the air. He was the first person I told about this crazy sky diving onto an island wedding idea and like always, supported me even when I’m out of my mind. To me, he was perfect.
Right from the beginning he said to me “don’t fall in love with me”, at the time he had a few unfaithful relationships and a few toxic ones. He thought he wasn’t worth me loving him because he would ruin everything.
Well Carter Avery Benitez, from the day I stalked your Facebook after only meeting you for an evening at your ex girlfriends house and messaged you, desperately wanting to get to know you, there was no way I wouldn’t fall in love with you. You’ll always have a special place in my heart. June 13, 1994 - July 3, 2020, rest in paradise my love.

‘Privilege doesn’t protect you’: family seeks answers after father’s Taser death | US news
The first news of his death came as a traffic update. El Camino Real, a busy road south of San Francisco , had been closed for hours on 3 October as law enforcement investigated what local news called a “deadly encounter”. A man was dead after being Tasered by sheriff’s deputies. He was described, in the early reports, only as a “36-year-old black man”, who the sheriff’s department said in a statement had been “running in and out of traffic” early that afternoon and had “assaulted” a sheriff’s deputy who approached him. An investigation was taking place. Sign up for the new US morning briefing Amaka Okobi, 72, saw the news and remembered thinking: “Oh God, I feel so bad for his mother.” That evening, Amaka, who lives in Pacifica, south of San Francisco, received a visit from the San Mateo coroner’s office. The man on the news was her son. Chinedu Valentine Okobi was a poet, a devoted father to his 12-year-old daughter, Christina, and a 2003 graduate of Morehouse, the historically black college in Atlanta. His death has caused agony and a quest for answers as to exactly how and why Chinedu died – answers that, they feel, are not being provided by the police. It has also renewed debate over the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of law enforcement, especially those with mental illness. In 2015, more than one in five cases of Americans killed by the police reportedly involved mental health issues, according to The Counted , the Guardian’s investigation into every police killing in the United States in 2015 and 2016. Black males aged 15-34 were nine times more likely than other Americans to be killed by law enforcement officers in 2016, according to data collected for the project . While the majority of America’s more than 1,000 police killings each year are shootings, dozens of Americans die each year after being tased by the police. In 2015, at least 50 Americans died after being tased by the police, and victims were disproportionately black. Chinedu had grown up in San Francisco as the youngest son of a Nigerian American family. He had spent the last decade managing serious mental illness, and in the past year, his older sister Ebele Okobi said, his family had grown worried as he seemed to grow more unstable, dropping in and out of contact with them. Chinedu had been unarmed during his encounter with San Mateo county sheriff’s deputies, the San Mateo district attorney, Steve Wagstaffe, who was investigating his death, told reporters. The public statement from the sheriff’s department suggested deputies had intervened to protect Chinedu from getting injured by traffic, Ebele said. So why is her brother dead? Ebele, 44, is a Columbia-trained lawyer who currently works as Facebook’s public policy director for Africa. Her role has included accompanying the Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, on African visits, including a meeting with Nigeria’s president. But her high-profile job and elite connections had not given her the power to keep her younger brother safe. “That’s the crazy thing: privilege does not protect you in any way,” she said. “I’ve been struck by the responses from people I know: ‘I don’t believe this happened to you .’” As a black American woman, Ebele said she had lived in fear for years that she would lose someone she loved to police violence. After the birth of her twins, a son and daughter, she had decided to move her family to London. They moved in 2014. “I don’t have the mental or emotional fortitude to raise a son in America,” she said she had decided. “I don’t have it.” Chinedu Okobi at his Morehouse graduation. Photograph: Courtesy Okobi family Wagstaffe, the district attorney investigating the incident, had told reporters that Chinedu was 6ft3in tall, and he weighed 330 pounds. Chinedu had used to joke about his height with his oldest sister, calling her “Little Big Sis”, because she was only 5ft4in. Now, her brother’s height had become a piece of evidence. In an interview on Monday, the day before a Tuesday morning memorial service for Chinedu in San Francisco, Ebele said that she and had her family had tried to piece together information about Chinedu’s last days, hours and minutes. What they had found so far were only fragments, she said, and some of the details were conflicting. “All we know is what we’re piecing together from news reports and from video that people are sending us,” Ebele said. Right now, the family does not even know when and where Chinedu died. San Francisco police targeted only black residents in drug arrests, lawsuit claims Read more Local law enforcement officials have made no attempt to reach out and are not talking to them, Ebele said. The only contact her family has had with any officials is with the coroner’s office, on the day of her brother’s death, she said. “Chasing him down and tasing him – there’s a protocol for dealing with people in crisis, and that’s not it,” Ebele said. Basic facts of Chinedu’s death remain unclear, said John Burris, an Oakland-based civil rights attorney who is representing his family. “The question is: what was he doing that caused the police to confront him in the first place? There’s no evidence that he was committing any type of crime,” said Burris, who has served as an attorney in multiple high-profile police abuse cases. “How many times was he tased? How many officers tased him?” A witness video obtained by the family provides a “partial” documentation of Chinedu’s encounter with the sheriff’s deputies, Burris said. “You can see on it that the officers were beating Chinedu, tasing him. We can see that he’s on the ground … he’s shouting ‘What have I done?’ and he finally breaks loose and he starts to run and they catch him,” he said. But then the video breaks off, Burris said. The video has not yet been released to the public and has not reviewed by the Guardian. Burris said his team was continuing to review the footage and wanted to make sure they understood its full context before releasing it. Burris is calling on officials to release any videos of the incident. While there are several witnesses to what happened, “no one saw beginning to end,” Burris said, and they have not identified any witnesses who saw how Chinedu’s encounter with the police began. The San Mateo county district attorney’s office investigation of Chinedu’s death will take eight to 10 weeks, and “we do not expect to give any information out until that time”, Karen Guidotti, San Mateo county’s chief deputy district attorney, told The Guardian. Guidotti said prosectors would interview the deputies involved, but she could not comment on whether those interviews had taken place. The San Mateo county district attorney’s office has named five deputies involved in the incident, all of whom are reportedly on paid leave during the investigation. Photograph: Courtesy Okobi family “Staff members in critical incidents where a death occurs are routinely placed on paid administrative leave, pending investigation,” Detective Rosemary Blankswade, a spokesperson for the office, said in a statement. Once a district attorney’s investigation is complete, she said, the sheriff’s office “will often conduct a separate administrative investigation” looking at “compliance with our policies”. “Additional and updated details surrounding the incident are not available at this time in light of the ongoing investigation,” she wrote. Burris told the Guardian that the lack of information from law enforcement officials was “pretty typical” and that, as always, the lack of basic information about a loved one’s death only added to the family’s pain. Ebele described her younger brother as someone who had been gregarious, personable, kind, and deeply devoted to his young daughter. He had been passionate about music and slam poetry, and was featured in a 2001 documentary about teenage slam poets, Poetic License, she said. How 20 years of stop and search has widened America’s racial divide Read more It was as he was preparing for life after college that Chinedu experienced the onset of serious mental illness, she said. He had been studying for graduate placement exams when he had what Ebele described as a psychotic break. The family brought Chinedu back to California , but struggled to get him a diagnosis and appropriate care. For the past decade, since 2009, he had been on medication and had built himself “a regular life.” He worked a series of jobs, including at Home Depot, “he took care of his daughter, he paid child support, he went to church”. At different times, he had lived at a halfway house, on his own, with his brother, and with a girlfriend. Ebele wrote in a tribute to her brother: “We were so proud of him for creating a good and kind life.” Around December 2017, his family noticed a change in his behavior. Chinedu did not show up to the family’s Christmas, even to see her children visiting from London. “He just wasn’t himself,” she said. He wouldn’t return calls, she said. He would send a text, but then not respond back. Family members thought he had either stopped taking his medication, Ebele said, or that his current medication was no longer working. Even as he struggled, his daughter, who lived in Tennessee, had remained a priority. He went to see her in May, Ebele said. And one of the final things that he did, the last day before he was killed, was to pay child support. Another last fragment: “He texted my mother and said, ‘Hello, sunshine,’” Ebele said.
