So, about that “lichen”...

After probably ten years now of playing this game, I’ve never once reflected over the quests in Dino Valley where Professor Einstein asks MC to collect some lichen for the race flag poles. However, after taking a break from the game for about a month (maybe two, maybe three, I haven’t kept track of when I’ve been playing the game, only the updates that I’ve missed (*cough* rainbow horses *cough*)), I wanted to find out more exactly what this mysterious substance known as “lichen” is.

What I found on my brief trip through Google, though, wasn’t what I expected, and a small part of me is mildly grossed out from the thought.

Sorry, Google, what was that again? Could you please explain this to me as if I’m five years old? /ref

Okay, that—

So basically, what Einstein is asking us poor players to drag down from the freezing trees in the middle of buttass nowhere Dinosaur Valley, is literal fungus. My hands feel nasty. I will have to remind myself to take a thorough shower and make sure that Wizard gets a good, thorough clean once we’re back home in Tailtop Village.

Thank the lord for the existence of Soap. Aaaahhh

I hope you’ll be just as delighted as I now am upon the knowledge that MC have torn fungus down from freezing trees with their bare hands :)

Severe drought conditions at Dinosaur Valley State Park, about 60 miles southwest of Fort Worth, exposed dinosaur tracks from around 113 million years ago that were previously hidden underneath the Paluxy River, according to Stephanie Garcia, a spokeswoman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The tracks, which were discovered this month, belong to Acrocanthosaurus, which are theropods, or bipedal dinosaurs with three toes and claws on each limb.

The dinosaur would have stood 15 feet tall and weighed close to seven tons as an adult.

"Drought has dried up part of a river in central Texas, revealing 113-million-year-old dinosaur tracks. The prehistoric footprints emerged at Dinosaur Valley State Park, which is located in the town of Glen Rose, southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As the name suggests, the park already protects other dinosaur footprints. But the tracks that recently emerged are usually hidden under the mud, silt and waters of the Paluxy River. This summer, however, water levels have dipped so low that the prehistoric indentations are now visible. So far, volunteers have counted 75 newly exposed footprints in the parched riverbed. “It has been another very hot, very dry year, so our researchers are trying to take advantage of the drought,” says park superintendent Jeff Davis to the Dallas Morning News’ Sarah Bahari. Two different types of dinosaurs likely made the footprints, according to park officials. One was Acrocanthosaurus, a 15-foot-tall carnivore that weighed approximately 14,000 pounds. As the gargantuan reptile walked around the area on two legs, it left behind the outline of its three-toed feet. The other was Sauroposeidon proteles, which has been the official state dinosaur of Texas since 2009. This long-necked behemoth may have measured up to 100 feet long and weighed closer to 88,000 pounds. It left behind larger, bulbous-shaped tracks that are similar to elephant footprints."

Land Before Time AU!!!

So I decided to expand on the idea from my latest random thought! Here’s a more in-depth look at the little AU I thought of! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002

Background:

All the kids live with their families with all their other Dino friends in the Great Miraculous Valley, a hidden cove safe from sharptooths and other dangerous creatures. That doesn’t stop the kids from wandering out and getting into misadventures though.

Nathaniel:

(Littlefoot)

Species: Long Neck (Apatosaurus)

Bio:

Lost his mother to a sharptooth attack, lives with his grandparents, doesn’t know what happened to his father

Wants to be a responsible and good dinosaur, loves learning wisdom from his elders

Has a bit of a puppy crush on Marc

Wants to help everyone in the Valley get along, and loves to draw in the dirt

Can’t wait for the day he grows up to be big and tall like older long necks

Alix:

(Cera)

Species: Three Horn (Triceratops)

Bio:

Lives with her father and older brother

Feisty and rebellious, always getting into trouble

Likes ramming things with her horn

Frequently butts heads with Nath, but cares about him all the same

Insists she’s not afraid of anything

Rose:

(Petrie)

Species: Flyer (Pteranodon)

Bio:

Lives with her parents in one of the High Caves

Excitable and curious, always in a good mood

Says “Me” in place of “I” and people’s names in place of “You” (Like Petrie does)

Likes Juleka an awful lot

Not the most coordinated in the air

Marinette:

Species: Swimmer (Parasaurolophus)

Bio:

Lives with her parents and adoptive brother, Marc

Says “Yep yep yep!”/“No No No!” when she’s excited or apprehensive about something

Still more than a little clumsy

Very close and affectionate with her brother

The groups’ voice of reason, much of the time

Marc:

(Spike)

Species: Spike Tail (Stegosaurus)

Bio:

Lost his mothers as an egg, was adopted by Marinette’s parents

Almost never talks, only when it’s important and never more than a couple words

Very protective of his adoptive sister, carries her on his back everywhere

Shares a very close bond with Nathaniel

Still mega shy, and a big eater

Juleka:

(Chomper)

Species: Sharptooth (Tyrannosaurus Rex)

Bio:

Was found by the others as an egg, and became friends as soon as she hatched

Sent back to the valley for safety by her mom, the only sharptooth who lives there

Only eats fish and water food, so no need to worry

Shares a special bond with Rose

Worries that people are afraid of her in the Valley
