One day... One Pandemic... and One Announcement...

"Nationwide Lockdown"

The roads were empty, there was no one on the usually busy streets, there were no vehicles on the usually jammed roads by traffic. The people who were usually so busy with their work and had no time for themselves, let alone for the family, were now free with no work and all time for themselves.

They were free as they always wished for, they were on a break now.

But, this was not what they wished for.

This was not what they had ever dreamt of. This was not what "we" were prepared for. This was not what we wanted.

We all have always, at some point in time, wished for a break to go to a place quiet, serene, beautiful and far away from this busy world.

But, this was different.

There was panic and chaos all around. It was as if we were stuck in the middle of the sea on a deserted island with no way out.

We were on a break, not by choice but by the guidelines. This was not a gift rather a punishment.

The punishment of our own deeds.

This pandemic made our otherwise well-settled life upside down. It was like the nature was taking revenge.

All of us were forced to be at our homes and work non stop.

Many were forced to go out of their comfort zones to survive. The people were losing their homes, their work, their jobs, their positions.

They were losing their lives to this pandemic and to the loneliness caused by it.

Everything around was out of control, many didn't even had basic amenities to survive. There was no money, no food and no shelter.

This was the worst time one could see, there was no solution and it was an intangible enemy, we had to fight with, rather we are still fighting.

But, this Pandemic made us realise the importance of our time, our family, our work and the one and only life we have.

This life is precious and we should value it.

All this while, we had been taking our lives for granted. This pandemic has made us value our life. It has taught us that the time is precious and if, once gone cannot be earned again.

So, spend this time carefully because we have only one life.

The one life to live for ourselves, for the people we love and the ones who love us.

Habits that are keeping you poor

1. Not valuing time. The most important thing we have is our time. We just can't get time back. How much time are you spending wasting time on social media? Netflix? Online shopping? Entertain yourself less and educate yourself more. Have you heard of time blocking? I will have a post on time blocking soon.

2. Associating with the wrong people. We all influence each other. Spend time with successful people. Surround yourself with frugal folks instead of people who make you waste tons of money on a night out. Associate with people who have similar goals to yours.

3. Not setting measurable goals. Don't wait until new years and please forget all the crazy new years resolution lies. We all know that by February those resolutions already failed and ended. Instead breakdown your goals, write them down, set daily goals that complete your weekly goal. Each weekly goal makeup your monthly goal and so on and by the end of the year you probably achieved so many goals that otherwise would have felt unreachable.

4. You are not budgeting. Run yourself like a business! Again write down your finances. How much money is coming in? What are your expenses? What can you cut down? How much is going towards debt? How much is going to savings?

As I’ve been reflecting a lot on my spending habits recently, I’ve realised a way of thinking about money which is really simple and makes perfect sense to me. I hope it might help somebody else out there too. Instead of just thinking about the cost of something in monetary value, I also think about the time it would take to earn the amount that thing costs. For example, £30 is easy to spend without too much thought, isn’t it? A take away, a trip to the local shop, or a day out somewhere. £30 can be blown in a matter of minutes. But how long does it take to earn? Let’s say you’re lucky enough earn £15 per hour. When you spend that £30, you’re effectively trading 2 hours of your time for that product or thing. Is it worth it? All of a sudden, some of those little purchases seem much less worth the trade off of hours at work. It works equally as well for big purchases too! Of course, a lot of the time it WILL be worth it. I find I’m more willing to spend my hard earned time (money) on ‘experiences’ than ‘stuff’, as that’s what I find adds value to my life. People will find their own value in what’s important to them, and that’s what makes this work in such a range of ways. Some people will enjoy working more than others. Some people will earn more per hour than others. You have to decide what’s worth your time and effort. Just try it: What was the last transaction you made and how much time did it take you to pay for it? Using the time method, does it feel worth it?
