I hate hearing
"that's not a real cane! You can't be a cane user if you don't use medical grade cane!!"
Tumblr media
If it keeps my bum leg from tumbling me then it's a good cane. I can't afford one of those fancy metal canes and I don't much like em none neither, so I'm fine with my wood cane. I'm a cane user even if I can't afford a doctor's cane.
This cane has my energy, pain, relief when it takes my pain and craft in it.
it's my cane and I am not ashamed of it.

So I was in woollies and this sweet little kiddie starting chatting to me and yeah, he prolly wasn't that far up in school yet but I must've entertained him enough bc he kept talking.
(Kinda gives me hope bc I start work in a primary school tomorrow lol)
Anyway he asked me why I used my cane and I was thinking "how do I explain enflammed hips and joints popping out and stretching and stuff to this little kid" and my dad just goes "her body doesn't like her very much" and the kid just goes, "that's not very nice of it" and continues on.
This kinda just made me smile and I dawned on me just how easy it is to explain things to kids, and just how stupid old people can be with their 'natural healing, and 'yoga' and 'just get a back massage'.

The Cane user for the day is Grampa Gengar from Pokemon Tales (I'll link the original post I was sent below)
Grampa Gengar holds his cane in his right hand firmly and tightly as he oversees the affairs of the Gengar homestead
Grampa Gengar seems like a refined well mannered gentleman and I'd love to make his acquaintance.
10/10

If I had a community arts center, I would offer a class that combined metal-casting and woodworking and let people create their own, perfectly custom, metal-handled walking cane.
Coach people to create a nice ergonomic grip handle that fits their exact hand. Then build on that to create a shape out of wax. I would make mine look like a pigeon.
Then measuring to figure out everyone's exact perfect cane length. Many cane users would know that anyways, but sometimes you can't get exactly what you want, commercially. Give them a range of stains to choose from.
Get the wax cast, get the heads attached. Toss on some stoppers on the end and voila. Badass, perfectly custom walking canes. What treasures.
(I use a cane rarely, but my hand and leg proportions make finding anything comfortable a real pain in the ass, and also I have very particular aesthetics! I can't be the only one.)

I bought a cane the other week - which is the first time I've owned one - I never realized how much I was suffering without one, turns out I was spending so many spoons just moving around and I had no idea. I have so much more energy now it's crazy. Best 30 dollars I've spent in my life.

ALWAYS ask before touching someone’s mobility aid!
even if they drop it, even if it’s out of arms reach, there is nothing wrong with asking before helping, and many of us prefer it.

I don't watch 2012 tmnt but I heard she gets knee problems. So I think she should get a cane. And also it should be one of those canes with a sword in it

fuck it.png, might as well ask since this has been on my mind for a while, so hey,
People who have used canes in some form or another! Hi! I have used a cane a few times, the reason for my use is a wavering thing so constant use isn't needed in my case, but it does provide stability. Especially in the morning, when my body is usually the weakest. Thing is, using a cane gives me lots of anxiety, and not because of people looking at me. Well, that, but more than that. The thing is, the noise of a cane against the ground makes me feel so awkward. Like oh no people are gonna stare at me and think I'm weird and aaaa. Or maybe reminds me of loud footsteps. Just really skyrockets the anxiety.
And I know some of this may be some internalized stuff to work out. It's made me curious about something, though. Are there canes that are...not like that? That don't sound like loud footsteps?
Cause that would be great—

Please teach your children to not point fingers at cane users and make fun of them.
It felt awful.

I dont make many hEDS posts now because I'm home-schooling and in a much better, non-toxic environment surrounded by my family and supporting friends, but I just wanted to let you know that I have been fretting for the past 2 months about possibly needing a cane in order to properly manage pain while walking because I get very bad back, hip, and knee pain mainly on my right.
Anyway, I was fretting and fretting and today I finally worked up the courage to ask them for one and my mum immediately goes online and starts asking which one I think would be best and my dad started looking up cool handles and grips for them and I couldn't be happier honestly.
I am so lucky to have them and I guess just wanted to let everyone know that everything is better and that it can get better, even just mental health wise ( though I find that if your stressed mentally than your physical state can get worse too), it can help a lot If you're just get better friends, or stop hanging around others who don't make you happy. I found that worked for me at least.

AH! CANE USERS LOOK
hey so if you use a foldable cane and it's a little wobbly in the folding part put a layer of washi tape or masking tape or such on the skinny part of the joint like this
Tumblr media
like the part that goes into the other parts of the cane
i heard someone say they didn't like their foldable cane bc it wasn't stable and i didn't get it bc my first cane was pretty sturdy but i just got this one and it was in fact unstable
also walgreens canes are better and cheaper in my experience of three canes, two from cvs. (two from cvs bc they sent me the wrong one the first time and i just kept it bc i liked it also i think??? they gave me a more expensive one??? so saved money too. i just had a much better experience w walgreens and the walgreens cane is lovely and probs my fave okay bye y'all <333

Todays cane user of the day is Tony Hawk! Tony Hawk is a professional skateboarder with a long an storied career. After breaking his leg last year Tony Hawk needed a cane just to get around, but dont let that change your perception of this amazing man. Mr. Hawks cane has a bird skull as the handle.
(a very on brand cane for the man known as the hawk) Tony Hawk gets a 10/10

Maybe weird but genuine question:
Does anyone have experience with using racket grip-tape on the handle of their walking cane?
I’m an ambulatory cane user and I want to spice up the aesthetic of my cane. I’m thinking colourful grip tape and reflective stickers.
But I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with using grip-tape (like for tennis rackets) on their cane handle and how well that works out for you.
