For some reason I just imagine them being a hoarder of some kind, like any little trinket you get them they will keep it or they might be into scrapbooking. They love to keep their memories close. 4 of Pentacles: whilst the other 2 piles containing the lovers card are very authentic I feel like this person sometimes uses their flirty persona as a mask, to protect themselves. 5 of Cups- This isn’t exactly the happiest card in the deck but one that means disappointment and having trouble letting go. I feel like your soulmate in the past has been disappointed by people, perhaps they have left them or betrayed their trust, looking at both of these cards I feel like it might have been because they found it hard in their childhood to form emotional connections. This is not to say they cannot do this I believe it just takes time with this person, however you know what they say- slow burns are the best. This person is incredible protective and loyal to their loved ones as I believe it is hard to get to know them at first but once you do you have one very loyal “bodyguard”. These people are very money savvy and for some reason I can picture them having a career in finance or economics. Can perhaps be a bit frugal with themselves and don’t like to treat themselves often but love to pamper others. This person likes to be in control in all aspects of life and has a very commanding aura about them (which I think is incredibly hot), I believe it brings them a sense of comfort. Lastly whilst they may find it hard at first to be more open more emotionally they are the most helpful souls on the planet when it comes to career, education or even just general organisation, I believe it gives them great joy to help others out in this area as not only does it boast their self-esteem but they love seeing the smiles on other peoples faces.

The Fool- the minute I drew this card I literally squealed and had to take laps because this card compared to the personality spread were just so opposite. To but it briefly you make them act like a bit of a fool (not in a bad way), like they are very blushy towards you and at the beginning stages they would get so flustered if you held their hand it is simply adorable. Looking into this card, the fool represents new beginnings, adventure and idealism. You bring new hope into their life, you know those soulmate AUs where everything is black and white until you meet your soulmate and the world turns to colour. I feel like emotionally that is what happened to them forming a union with you. You bring the fun and zest into their life, offering them a chance to relax instead of doing work all the time which they are forever grateful for, you definitely make them feel young again. on today’s episode of essay-length hot takes nobody asked for:

So I freak out and internally implode whenever ~bughead~ doesn’t let their ship set sail as much as the next person, but I’ve been (over) thinking about it and maybe doing all this weird ‘everyone breaking up and going to the person they dont really work with’ is actually a good thing in the long run.

Not saying I like it, in fact I have approximately seven fanfics that deeply demonstrate HOW MUCH i don’t like it, but this is the canon storyline we’ve got.

Since the writers clearly want to drag it all out for as long as possible because they… want to (their choice, its their work of art, we can only glare at it from afar), perhaps they’re trying to go full circle and prove that couples like bughead, varchie, choni and even kangs are the ones that will work out in the end.

here’s my reasoning:

Yes, I have scrolled as fast as humanly possible through my dashboard to avoid the jughead and tabitha gifs, and earlier today learned that they sang ‘perfect for you’ and my immediate reaction, after I’d finished mourning their platonic friendship, was just *vomit emoji*. But, then I saw the lyrics to perfect for you…. And it sounds like Jughead is trying to change himself into being someone ‘perfect’ so that tabitha will like him. That just doesn’t strike me as either healthy or long lasting. He shouldn’t HAVE to change himself to be in a relationship with Tabitha. Get better, yes, because he’s recovering, but change himself??? They were good friends, they worked well as a team, but in none of those interactions did he try to change himself to make her happy. So why is he now??

And take Fangs and Toni for a moment - they just had a baby together, and they’re apparently in love after one episode (hey if it works for barchie and veggie then why not -.-), but really, aren’t they doing this because they work well as a team and are starting to think ‘maybe we can be a perfect little happy family’???

And Veronica and Archie (won’t lie didn’t watch the musical ep so can’t be sure) broke up because they see themselves doing different things in life (?) and veronica wants to go back to New York. And she wants to work on herself (valid) and for some reason goes back to Reggie the sister-swapping gigolo next ep (whom she made THIS face at when she found out:

But I digress.)

With this in mind, I would assume Veronica is fearful that, like she lost herself in her relationship with Chad, she’ll lose herself in her relationship with Archie because he isn’t a big time New York City high roller like Reggie must want to be. So she’s hoping that maybe Reggie, who she works well with in a team, could be the one for her.

Now, Betty and Archie…. My soul shivers with cold despair as I even type this, but let’s humour them for a second. Archie is upset that veronica has left him, betty has been shown to use sex as a coping mechanism to avoid her trauma, makes sense they might start their FWB situation again, right??

Except…

Betty is devastated by the loss of her sister and needs to stay in Riverdale, Archie needs to stay in riverdale because he has 673 jobs there, and both of them have shit they want to move on from or be distracted from - they’ve been shown to work well (dare i say it?) as a team, and they’re apparently good friends with each other, so why not give dating a go since their first choices (and make no mistake, Veronica is Archie’s first choice and Jughead was Betty’s first choice) are unavailable and they’re both depressed, traumatised and lonely??

So this should all be just fine and dandy, then right?? Everyone’s happy with their friends-to-lovers relationships, they can frolic blissfully in Pickens park with the loves of their lives shouting “Go teamwork!” Because this is the height of passion! Right??

No.

None of the above mentioned ships have achieved anything more than showing that the characters are SETTLING for the relationships that are ‘second’ best because they’ve come to the conclusion that this is safer than going for the ones they really love. You can’t get burned by your second choice because they don’t hold your heart in their hands - after all, you haven’t truly given it to them.

So if all goes to what I think (hope) is the plan, then by the end of this mysterious 5 episode event, most of these ships should have realised that their relationships are all just relationships of convenience. They aren’t passionate about each other. They are trying to force themselves into a ‘perfect’ relationship that suits what they think they need.

But inevitably:

Betty will realise that nobody understands her like Jughead. Nobody else lets her feel vulnerable and shows her its okay to open up. Jughead will realise he doesn’t have to change himself to suit a relationship, and he and Tabitha can still be friends - Betty accepted his darkness for what it was, and he loved her even when she showed him hers.

Veronica will realise that she doesn’t have to give up being who she is, even if she chooses to live in Riverdale. And she doesn’t need to be with another Hiram-Lodge wanna be - she loves the small town boy who tries to be good rather than rich. She sees the value in his desire to help others, and HE sees her passionate nature and refusal to give up when she knows something is right!

Toni and Fangs will part amicably as happy little coparents, and i’m sure Kevin and Cheryl will eventually sort their shit out - what’s beautiful about these four though, is that they’ve been working on themselves all season and have actually spoken to each other a fair bit. I’m not even going to pretend to know whats up with Cheryl, but she at least leaves Thornhill occasionally now, and while I don’t know how its going to happen, i’m sure kangs and choni will rise.

On that note, fangs still doesn’t know kevin wanted to win him back, so that can be some actual tension between the characters in the coming episodes.

So where does that leave Tabitha and Reggie?

I can see it going two ways: 1. Tabitha franchises pops diner and moves back to Chicago where she doesn’t need no man, and Reggie keeps being a little philanthropist car salesman (possibly still hooking up with veronica’s sister) 2. #Teggie rising???

They’re both very driven people, both business-minded, both excited about the opportunities life has to offer AND they’ve both been shown to be incredibly ambitious.

They’ve hardly interacted this entire season…. Maybe the writers are Saving a sneaky little surprise for when all the main ships get back together??

We can hope.

Anyway, I wrote this instead of an overdue essay (a real one for my masters degree) so i’m gonna leave my theories in the tumblr void for the time being. Let me know what you think :)

PokeV3 AU – Boys!

Rantaro

Flying Type

His theme is loosely based on travel.

He got delibird because he canonly likes to bring back souvenirs. Mantyke was his first pokemon and hes been using it to travel around on the water. The rest he got just by traveling to different parts of the world.

Rantaro is a traveler for sure, but when he finally settles down I imagine he would become a pokemon breeder and he studies for that while traveling.

His family is different than canon so heres some info on them too:

His dad is like a green haired Saxton Hale. Used to adventure a lot but then settled and became a business man, and a surprisingly good one at that. He owns the poke center chain and a certain mansion where he let's people visit and battle the staff for fun. Absolutely loves the fact that his son is adventurous like he was and will pay for whatever he needs. Not worried about Rantaro because he turned out all right, so why wouldn't his son? Adventure runs in his veins haha! He's just a happy go lucky guy that really loves his kids and supports them.

His mom is VERY worried about Rantaro in stark contrast to her husband, and gets mad that her husband is so carefree about their own child. She waits impatiently for the day Rantaro finally settles down so she doesn't have to worry anymore. Very doting and cute!

His sisters arent lost, they're the poke center nurses!

Ryoma

Fighting Type

His theme is competition and teamwork!

Ryoma used to be one of the youngest people in the elite four until his pokemon got stolen by the antagonist team. He barely made it out alive, but lost his pokemon and hasn't been the same since.

Would only adventure if someone gave him hope that he could find them again. The adventure ends when he finds them all because he'll want to go back home and settle down now that he's finally got them back.

He wouldn't necessarily get back into the elite four after finding them because he's just not as enthusiastic as he used to be about fighting, but he would probably become someone that gives advice to young trainers around his town.

He used to be super famous when he was in the elite four, and everyone knew him for his competitive spirit and his good sportsmanship. Lots of people still remember him and wonder what happened to make him quit so suddenly.

While he's still missing his pokemon he would hate it when people would be like "omg weren't you in the elite four?!?!" but when he gets them back he just kinda cracks half a smile and chuckles, not really answering but also not saying no.

Korekiyo

Ghost Type

His theme is ancient culture to absolutely no one's surprise.

Frosslass was given to him by his sister. He found golett, yamask, and duskull in different archeological digs that he visited. Banette and misdreavus just took a liking to him, so they joined up with him. He's surprisingly really good with ghosts types? They just like him for some reason...

Korekiyo is an anthropologist like in canon.

His sister is alive but she's really frail after her health took a dramatic turn and has to stay home instead of exploring like she used to. She was super into ice type pokemon, but cant go catch them because her body can't handle the weather anymore.

Kork wants to show his sister the world she cant go out and see anymore and so he travels and brings back souvenirs and pictures for her. She's a little sad she can't go with him, but tries to keep her spirits up despite not being able to fulfill her dream and supports her little brother's dream instead. She's still getting used to the thought of not being able to adventure like she used to.

She was a kinda famous ice type trainer that was about to make it big before her health started failing.

Her health problem is hereditary and her mother died from it when Korekiyo was born because her body couldnt handle the illness and giving birth to Korekiyo at the same time. She won't die as long as she's careful, which includes not going into cold areas and not engaging in strenuous activity. Only the girls in the family get it, and no one really knows what it is.

They dont know where their dad went, but he left after their mother died because he couldn't stand the grief.

Gonta

Bug Type

Fun bug fact: he somehow managed to accidentally catch all the bug types people that freak people out (spider, centipede, wasp/bee hybrid, bugs with pinschers, the parasite one, etc). People have run away from battles with him before and he feels bad about it but cant figure out why they ran.

Gonta doesn't really battle so much as he goes looking for new bug type pokemon. Really enthusiastic about bug types and helps his professor by giving him all the field notes he writes.

Oddly doesn't seem to have any parents? The professor has basically adopted him at this point and they don't talk about it.

Kaito

Dragon Type

His theme is any pokemon he thinks is cool.

Kaito wants to be the champion and if he calls someone his sidekick it means he wants to have them be in his elite four.

He has a penchant for doing things he thinks other people would find cool. Probably has a fucking cape and sunglasses. Wants what Leon has so fucking badly but ends up looking like an egomaniac and a try hard on accident. Totally lies about his adventures to try and look cooler to people, but little does he know that no one ever believes him.

Hasn't actually traveled much despite what he may tell you, but you could get him to tag along as long as there are no ghost types involved. He's scared of them.

Hates cold weather.

Kokichi

Ghost Type

His theme was childish looking pokemon, but then they evolved so it's mischievous pokemon with cool and spooky lore

If the dex entry mentions anything about children, odds are he's caught it already. He's a magnet to those types of ghost pokemon for some reason.

The way he caught his drifloon was cuz it thought he was a little kid and tried to steal him lmao

Kokichi "haunts" (read: terrorizes the townsfolk of) whatever place he's at until he gets bored, then he goes to a new place and starts again. He's another one that oddly doesn't seem to have parents.

He gets excited by adventure and challenges, but I dont think he would leave his country unless he had people he really cares about ask him to go with them, and he'd only go because he doesn't want them to leave him. He'd eventually come around to the idea of traveling and really enjoy it, you just have to give him some time to adjust.

Kokichi in this AU gets really attached to places/things/people that leave an impression on him and doesn't wanna let them go kinda like how ghosts possess places and things and dont want to leave until they get exorcised or find closure. Luckily for Kokichi he "definitely doesn't" let himself get attached to things anymore. I wonder why...?

His tragic backstory is that he's always had an affinity to ghost types and that freaked everyone out so they basically cast him out when he was younger and he's lowkey traumatized by it. Was kinda raised by ghost types in an abandoned, haunted mansion after that because they liked him a lot. Raised in that place but eventually forced to leave because it was so decrepit that it finally collapsed.

Once he meets someone he likes who actually likes him too, he sticks to them like glue and doesn't let go. So much for not getting attached.

Scared of bug types.

Likes Falinks and Pawniard even though they're not ghost types.

Kiibo

Electric/Steel Types

Kiibo is human in this AU. He's a technology enthusiast and a huge fan of Miu's work.

Knows a lot about pokemon like Shuichi and would absolutely geek out with him, but his interest is mostly directed towards steel and electric pokemon rather than all of them, unlike Shuichi's interest in ALL pokemon.

Heir to his father's tech company and that's how he met Miu; she works for his dad. They're really good friends and have been for years.

Magearna has been passed down through his family.

Shuichi

Psychic Type

Shuichi is a pokemon fanatic and is probably in a pokemon fan club.

Studies all day about everything from type matchups to berries but gets overwhelmed and forgets everything he's learned until he really gets into the battle.

Not bad at battling when he's not overwhelmed.

He's good to have around because he's basically a walking wiki page.

He has a knack for finding pokemon and his life goal is probably to try and discover new species or types of pokemon.

His uncle is a detective and he still lives with him like in canon. He's tracks down lost pokemon more than anything though because those are the only cases he really enjoys working on. I imagine he would be like a lost pet/pokemon detective when he's older because that's his specialty.

Solved a big case involving the antagonist team when he was younger and wears a hat to hide his face so they don't recognize him and try to get revenge. Really, really hopes that it will eventually blow over.

He would be nervous about traveling very far, but looking on the bright side of things he gets a change in pace, some new experiences, a chance to avoid the antagonist team, and new friends. He would accept for those reasons, but he would only go with someone he trusts.

Jess you know i’ll do literally Whatever You Want

Steve is Fine. Of course he is. That’s how people are. All the time. Fine.

Except everything is gone. He keeps looking for things that aren’t there. He broke an egg beater. (If it wasn’t run by electricity, he probably just would’ve over-whipped his eggs.)

He keeps picking up shirts that look like his size and then he looks at himself in the mirror and it’s wrong. Too small. Too big. Too...

He doesn’t want to admit he has a problem. Because he doesn’t. Tons of men from the Great War came home and screamed in their sleep. That’s just what war does. He’ll get over it.

He doesn’t know why they keep calling it World War I. Not until he realizes that his war was the second one.

He looks at photographs that seem incredibly old. His fingers trace faces delicately. He knows that the photos are old. But they are not. He remembers wanting his picture taken with his Ma, remembers that it was too expensive and unnecessary.

And now...he’s like a man with everything.

“Let’s hear it for Captain America!”

He can hear the ghost of that ringing in his ears. He wasn’t looking at Bucky at the time, too focused on Peggy and winning and finally doing something.

There’s no time. Time runs out. Or he has all the time in the world.

Depends on if he’s optimistic about being frozen solid for seventy-odd years.

People pay for things for him. He gets free hot dogs. He doesn’t exactly mind it, but he doesn’t need four. So he gives the extra to the men with the signs on the streets, and feels guilty for a brief moment that he remembers signs like these from before.

Steve is Fairly Sure he doesn’t deserve a lot of what he has.

He gets his own place at Stark Tower. Avengers Tower? He’s not sure if it’s renamed. Tony left up the “A” and nothing else.

He has a nice mattress. He doesn’t sleep on it. Carpet’s soft enough as it is. The AI (which holy fuck) asks if he would like any physician or therapy. It would benefit him, so the story goes.

“I’m fine,” Steve says. “Just not used to modern mattresses, right?”

Right?

Jarvis doesn’t call him out on it.

He doesn’t tell the team he’s getting about three hours of sleep. Captain America doesn’t need sleep. All he needs is justice, truth, and the American Way, whatever the fuck that means.

(But Steve Rogers? God, he needs sleep so badly.)

It’s not until he’s sitting at the kitchen table at five in the morning that Tony comes in.

Tony looks terrible, no beating around the bush. He has deep purple ringing his eyes, his hair is stuck up in every direction from frustration, and he sees Steve.

“You too?”

“Depends on what it is,” Steve says carefully. “You already awake or up early?”

“Yes.”

Steve snorts and takes a bite from his yogurt.

“You on your daily do-good run?” Tony asks.

“No. Don’t go this late.”

“Hardy har har,” Tony responds. “I know it’s bullshit, Steve.”

“Which part?”

“Everything,” Tony says. “You’re getting used to a brand new environment and what, you don’t lash out? You keep saying ‘golly’ which I know has to grate on your nerves. You’re performing for expectation.”

Hit it right on the nose. Steve tenses.

“And?”

“Take it from someone who was trained to do that since they were three, it doesn’t go as well as you think it should,” Tony says. “So, how much sleep have you lost?”

“I got an hour and a half, if that counts,” Steve offers.

“Because this is me, I am not sad for you,” Tony says. “Can I ask how you are?”

“Fine.”

Tony smiles to himself.

“How many times have you said fine and not meant it? I’ve said probably a million times, without exaggeration.”

“In this time? Probably over a thousand,” Steve says. “You...get it?”

“No one comes back from war okay,” Tony says. “Especially not you. You got held up on a pedestal and no one ever took you off. Including yourself. You think that Captain America is a better than Steve Rogers ever could be.”

“And you know this how?”

“Well you don’t see me stop improving on Iron Man suits, now do you?” Tony asks, a bitter smile on his face. “But enough moping, let’s do something Steve.”

Tony and Steve.

Not Captain America.

Tony makes Steve bake cookies with him without a recipe.

“I wanna see how quickly we can fuck it up.”

(Answer: in five minutes.)

Steve actually goes and sees a therapist.

He finds out that he has a lot of bad coping mechanisms, including sleeping on a carpet.

“I don’t care that it’s a billionaire’s carpet, it still should suck,” Bill says. Bill is a nice therapist. He got Steve to try creamer in his coffee.

So Steve goes mattress shopping with Tony, who demands luxury and also gets Steve a stiffer mattress that he has the best sleep of his life on.

Steve is the one who gets Tony out of a lab-haze by making his own bar and naming drinks the worst thing in the world.

“Why is this one called “Hurricane But Green?” Tony asks, raising an eyebrow.

“Because I wanted green food coloring,” Steve answers. “Now drink it and tell me if it tastes like shit.”

Tony orders another.

They both tease each other, and the teamwork generally gets better.

Steve starts getting things that he likes, and he doesn’t feel guilty for it.

The first thing he buys is a set of charcoals.

And he starts to do a portrait of his family. All of them.

Lmao I got three I'm particularly curious about for you on the character meme. Thancred, Lahabrea, Igeyorhm. XD Feel free to do as many or as few as you'd like of course!

You asked for it. We’ll start with That Damned Rogue. The Ascians will be below.

This of course got long, so behind a cut it goes:

Thancred

First impression: I started in Gridania and took like 2 years to finish ARR 2.0, was already spoiled on the possession angle (I spoiled myself, no big), and had just @erickgage‘s affectionate joking summary of Thancred being the guy who shows up 5 minutes late with Starbucks to all the early battles. So I didn’t really get to meet the guy ‘til the Waking Sands.

And honestly, he was stereotypical generic bland anime prettyboy competent guy. His 1.0/ARR model is…just sorta there. He was a flirt, also generic as heck. Really didn’t register too much, until I finished 2.0 finally and then went hard on the MSQ through the patches and into HW and StB 4.0, when I finally caught up to content.

Impression now: Godsdammit.

My first replay through the game was on PunchyCat, starting in Ul’dah, which meant I got to meet Thancred much earlier. I was immediately amused by his nickname for Nanamo, and Papashan’s assessment of the witty Archon. I was more into the lore, getting the first lorebook and reading the short stories on the main site, and playing through all at once instead of piecemeal over months/years made things make more sense. Thancred hits a lot of tropes I commonly like in a lot of characters, so he jumped up to being a favorite.

Gunbreaker suits him as a tank job (thank goodness he can stop trying to tank warmachina as a rogue, ffs Thancred), and tanking in general suits him when it comes to fighting for those he cares about.

I’m interested in the ShB story mentioning why he wears white in all his gear iterations; I’d previously made a post about his color choices and that aspect of character design, but having a lore explanation for his affinity for that color was interesting. I didn’t think his HW model suited him, honestly; way too rough mountain man hobo. His model in ShB is closer to his ARR model, but different enough, and imbued now with actual character, that he’s a bit more visually interesting and while still pretty typical handsome anime protagonist in appearance; his true personality just comes through a lot more.

I’m still forever mad about the unintentional character ‘ship with Aeryn, tho. It took a 3rd playthrough for it to happen.

For myself, mind, when I got into playing and learned his canonical age, it was at the time the same difference between myself and my younger brother. My assessment of the Scion “family” with Thancred being the middle child (esp his behavior pre-HW) maybe helps that. I’m getting to a point, really, where I look at the characters under 35 and think “OMG disaster children, all of you.”

Favorite moment: Oh goodness. There’s some good ones.

‘How was I supposed to know all my girlfriends would track me down and show up at HQ all at the same time: a master class in how to not to deal with multiple paramours by Archon T. Waters.’

His dramatic reappearance and duel with Ardbert in HW 3.1.

Taking out his frustrations by soloing the Coerthas cyclops boss so we can get on with the Tournament and fight Raubahn. (Side Bonus: pre-tournament when he jokes about fighting for the other team to even up the odds, and then: “It looks to be a veritable who’s who of the Eorzean Alliance. The only question is: who came to watch and who came to fight? Hmm…Nanamo. Definitely Nanamo.”)

Making sure Urianger knew he was still part of the team post-Soul Surrender climax.

“All right, which one of you triggered the obvious trap?” Also learning he can hold his breath for 10 freaking minutes–but still gets to be jealous of the WoL, Lyse, and Alisaie for their kojin blessing.

That dramatic teamwork with Urianger to knock Ran’jit down the pit in Rak’tika.

That frickin’ Trolley duty and it’s aftermath with the completed checklist of anime death markers and then just sitting there battered and bleeding and smiling and then giving Ryne a name and a headpat and “You’re family.” Bastard.

Idea for a story: Have you seen my Ao3 account? *grumbles*

Unpopular opinion: While he likely used drinking as a bad coping mechanism at times in ARR’s patches, I doubt he ever really went to blackout, as losing control to that extent, after having been controlled and probably losing a lot of time while possessed, would be awful. We see him drink a few times, but I don’t think he is/was an alcoholic.

I also agree with @ahlis-xiv that his flirtatious persona was mostly adopted. While he probably does have a healthy libido and enjoys time with paramours (that Urianger keeps a handy list of), there’s a lot that’s likely exaggerated, allowed to be assumed, and otherwise used as a cover, given his specializations. It’s also noteworthy how he’s mostly acting the same even after being lost in the wilderness, right up until our foray into the Antitower. The wit/humor gets toned down a lot, but the flirting is cut out entirely after that. He still charms some ladies in the First, based on incidental dialogue, but that seems a general reaction to him being a handsome hero type rather than any intentional flirtatious act on his part.

Favorite relationship: Thancred and little sister types. I do wish we’d seen more of his relationship with Minfilia outside of informed moments and the short stories. I feel like he has a semi-older-brother relationship with Lyse, too, given their antics in the 2.0 patches (particularly the “Hoary’s fighting the WoL, come watch!” and Thancred not even considering how one of his girlfriends would see him sending Lyse to retrieve an item until after and going “oh yeah, whoops”). And now there’s Ryne, and she is totally running things if you watch their background conversations/body language. But that’s kind of where Thancred likes it; find a girl who needs a protective older brother and do what she asks and whatever she needs.

I do have a special place in my heart for the expanded broship with Urianger that Shadowbringers gave us, though. I’ve already spoken on that one.

Favorite headcanon: Everything people assume about how he spoils the nutkin. And really, focusing on taking care of and doting on a pet would be good therapy. Goodness knows he needs it.

Also I assume he and Hilda hooked up at least once during the HW patches. Part of that expectation and cover, sure, to immediately flirt with the pretty, tough, half-elezen guard captain. But also, he spent however long mostly alone, and then only with the Vath and a nutkin for company; the guy was probably touch-starved and lonely and just needing a connection to another person he could relate to (that wasn’t a bug).

Otherwise, again, have you seen my Ao3? Ugh. Damned snarky smart rogues…

Lahabrea

First impression: Laughing Organization XIII-wannabe is obvious villain. Wonder what their deal is.

Impression now: So much lost/wasted potential thanks to being stuck as the ARR villain when it was so hastily rewritten and acted, and so little was decided on the Ascians and their motivations yet. A lot of what we learn now retroactively makes him more interesting. The fact he was a workaholic who looked at the workaholic Scion and went “ah yes; that one will do, perfect” makes me laugh.

Favorite moment: I like his interactions with Elidibus. And I am actually fairly fond of his theatrical reveal in Praetorium about the Ultima Weapon, the Heart of Sabik, and casting Ultima.

Idea for a story: Maybe stuff while he’s possessing Thancred. Maybe stuff between then and the Reactor. I dunno; I’ve been enjoying a lot of others’ stories about our first Ascian antagonist.

Unpopular opinion: Dunno if this is unpopular, but some of the retroactive information is to excuse why he seemed so much less powerful than other, later Ascians, but I do think the Speaker could be quite devious and powerful, if he had better writing around him. He suffers for being from ARR.

Favorite relationship: I am not ashamed to admit I am a Lahabrea/Igeyorhm shipper and Hades Ex seems to agree with me so there.

Favorite headcanon: The Speaker likely also had a good singing voice. Another thing good about possessing a man whose primary cover was a bard–excuses to indulge that.

Igeyorhm

First impression: Wannabe-Organization XIII also hires women, cool. Wonder if she’ll get to do anything?

Impression now: I’m sad so much got cut from HW; as great as it was, a lot got left on the editing room floor and it shows in spots–particularly where the Ascians connect with the plot. We learn much about her retroactively as well, including how she worked for/with Lahabrea thanks to being the one to wreck the Thirteenth, and change Ascian policy on how to bring about Rejoinings. I still wanna know more about her.

Favorite moment: You beat the whale, good job–thanks, that’s my key now. It’s such a perfect dick move. Excellent timing and taunting.

Idea for a story: Maybe some of her inner thoughts working for/with Lahabrea. She was a raised up shard, so does that mean they found the scattered pieces of her original soul and force-merged them? I doubt it, since Emet-Selch mentions raising up those who are a piece of the previous office holder, but I wonder if it came with imbuing the new title-holder with some of those memories and knowledge. Perhaps she wonders if some of her interactions/feelings/whatever with Lahabrea are her own, or her tapping into her previous life’s memories. Something to think about, anyway.

Unpopular opinion: I dunno, she shoulda gotten to stick around longer? Or been allowed to do a lot more? Should have been much more of a presence in HW, but I don’t think that’s unpopular so much as unconsidered.

Favorite relationship: Lahabrea is really the only one she gets significant interactions with. Though I wonder about her interactions with the other few women in the Ascians.

Favorite headcanon: See above with the story ideas, really; she didn’t get a lot of time onscreen so there’s a lot of room to make things up, and retroactive info from ShB to make her more interesting, or at least her situation as an upraised Ascian.

blindspot fanfic: (updated) master post

Thought I would update my fanfic master post - there have been a lot of new ones since I last posted it! An enormous thank you to everyone who has ever read, liked, commented or reblogged one of my fics - your support and feedback means the world to me and keeps me writing! This fandom is a wonderful, wonderful place and I am so very grateful for all of you. So, below the cut are links to all 174(!) of my Jeller fics and drabbles so far, with many more to come. I have to admit that revisiting theses fics reminded me of why I fell in love with Jeller in the first place. A Princess and a Vampire Walk into a Closet

Part 11 of Starshine, Sky, and the Power of Rock.

Gossamer and I shove through the principal's office door at the same time.

"I am not camping with her!" we both say, pointing at each other.

Sunshine casually stirs a spoonful of honey into a dainty little teacup, not looking up. "What makes you say that?"

I try to get the first word in but Gossamer steps in front of me to say, "Your Majesty, with all due respect, do you honestly trust a vampire left alone in the middle of the forest with a defenseless student to not try anything?"

"I'd hardly call you defenseless when you have your Soul Player, Ms. Glade" Sunshine says. "We'll go over how to use them this week so you'll be ready come Saturday."

Gossamer whimpers, not wanting to go too far in front of a queen. "Okay, scratch the 'defenseless' part, but my point still stands."

Sunshine finally looks up, her expression more inquisitive than anything. "What has Ms. Acdalur done to make you feel unsafe around her?"

"Well, for one, she-"

"Nothing," I say. "I have done nothing to her. Or anyone."

Gossamer scoffs. "Tell that to the princess you put in mortal danger."

"You know I didn't mean to get her in trouble. Plus that was, like, a month ago. How are you not past that?"

"Well, sorry if almost getting people killed is normal for monsters, but here in civilized society-"

"Why does everything come back to monsters with you?"

"It's a little hard to ignore when I have to go to bed every night hoping I won't wake up the next day with half my blood gone."

"As if I want your blood-"

"Cupcake or cinnamon roll?" Sunshine interrupts.

Gossamer and I exchange puzzled looks. "What?" we say.

Sunshine rolls her desk chair over to a keyboard set up against the wall. She plays a short tune and a tray materializes on her desk, vanilla cupcakes topped with yellow frosting butterflies on one side and fresh cinnamon rolls dripping with icing on the other. Our mouths water despite our confusion.

"Both of you, sit down," Sunshine says. "Ms. Acdalur, choose a pastry."

"How come she gets one?" Gossamer whines but Sunshine puts up a silencing hand before prompting me to pick one. I take a cinnamon roll and sit myself down in one of her big, squishy chairs.

"Ms. Acdalur, you are going to eat silently while Ms. Glade explains herself. We'll reverse things once it's your turn to speak."

I'm a little less interested in the cinnamon roll now that I know it's a glorified pacifier but the warm, sugary smell draws me back in. Next thing I know my mouth is full of soft, cinnamon goodness and Gossamer's is full of bile.

"Your Majesty, if you want proof that Skylar isn't to be trusted, you need only remember what she is," Gossamer starts. "Now, I've done my fair share of research on monsters. Vampires in particular, actually, and I know them to be morally bankrupt. Cunning, but soulless. They're just animated corpses that put on a very convincing act. They draw you in until you think they're your friend, and then they strike."

"Is that what your daddy told you?" I can't help saying through a mouthful of pastry.

Sunshine gives me a warning look. "And you think this will happen on your retreat?" she asks.

Gossamer nods. "Precisely."

"Interesting," Sunshine says, pretending to consider this. "But surely that can't be said about all vampires, right? What if assumptions were thrown at you over something you can't control?"

Gossamer opens her mouth. Closes it. Opens it. Closes it again. "I suppose that would be unfair," she says. "But... but that's different."

"How so?" Sunshine asks.

"Well..." Gossamer struggles to come up with something to support her stupid argument. "Well, look at her!" she says, pointing at me. "That's a false equivalence! We're not talking about elves, we're talking about vampires! That's totally different!"

"This isn't going anywhere, can it be my turn?" I say after licking the icing off my fingers.

Sunshine looks at Gossamer, then nods towards the tray. Gossamer huffs, grabs a cupcake, and tears into it the way she'd probably like to tear into me.

"I just don't wanna be stuck with that for a whole day," I say, nodding to Gossamer.

"Oh! So, I'm concerned with making it through the night, and you're concerned with being with the annoying girl!" Gossamer says.

"Eat your cupcake," Sunshine says. Gossamer obeys.

I continue, "Plus I'm not from here. I don't know what the... What did you call it? Serpent-something..."

"Serpentine Forest," Sunshine says.

"Yeah I've never heard of that. I'd rather figure that out with someone who won't be nagging me the whole time. Like Star."

Sunshine nods. "I see. Well, I do agree that my daughter will likely be a more patient teacher than Ms. Glade - no offense, dear - but that's why I specifically paired her with Ms. Waxing and Ms. Essence, who are both still getting used to their new centers of gravity. And I wouldn't call Ms. Glade a useless partner. Far from. The Serpentine Forest is actually in her home province, Hillside, so I'd say she knows it better than anyone else in your band. Coupling that with your camping experience, you two should make a wonderful team. After all, the point of the retreat is teamwork, right? Isn't that what you need in a band? And in a set of roommates?"

"Yeah, but..." Gossamer and I both say but neither of us can come up with a way to argue back.

Sunshine smiles. "You two will see. I have faith in both of you. Now, don't you girls have homework?"

Now that we're done going over the basics in songwriting class Mr. Crystalline has made every band decide who in their group will be in charge of what. Our assignment due Monday is to write and record our first song for our band. Star performed Save the World for the other girls and they decided that'd be a good jumping-off point but the lyricist and composer would have to tweak it a bit to make sure everything gels since right now it shows that the lyrics and music started out as separate pieces.

Now I'm at the door to Star's room, guitar case in one hand and sheet music in the other, kicking myself for not expecting guards to be posted by the princess's bedroom.

"State your business," one says.

"Uh, Star and I have to work on an assignment."

"Likely story,"

"And a true one," Star says, opening the door. "She's good, boys. I invited her. Hi, Sky! Come in, come in!"

I didn't know bedrooms came this big. Her huge canopy bed barely takes up a quarter of the room. A writing desk sits to my left. A full-length mirror sits to my right. A balcony with glass double doors sits in front of me. And... Is that a karaoke machine? Attached to a mini stage? In her bedroom?

Everything is either in cool pastels or deep, dark blues and purples. And sparkly, everything is sparkly. At first I think it's glitter that everything is covered in but then I remember I'm in a princess's room and realize it's precious gems.

"So?" Star says. "You like my room?"

All I can muster is a faint chuckle.

Star smiles. "I'll take that as a yes."

It takes us all of 15 minutes to work out the the basic song's major kinks. It takes 15 more to decide on the harmonies and half of that time is spent debating whether or not we should make it five-part because that would mean Pearl would have to sing and we barely know what her speaking voice sounds like, let alone her singing voice. Hell, I've already got the arrangement in mind but we'll discuss that with the others tomorrow. I haven't worked this fast on a song in months. I guess having a partner helps. I never thought I'd be able to write a song with anyone other than... Ah crap.

"Sky? Are you okay?" Star says.

"Yeah I'm fine," I lie.

Star looks me deep in the eyes. "No, you're not." She closes her journal, makes me put down my guitar. "You keep snapping into these depressive moods. Like, all the time. What is it?"

I shrug. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Girl, don't lie to me. Come on, spill! Talking about stuff always makes me feel better."

I try to scoot away from her spot on the rug but she scoots right to me. She rests her chin on my shoulder, sending the warmth from her living body into my cold, dead one.

"Uh..." She's making me nervous.

"Pleeeease?" she asks. She pleads with her eyes as much as she does with her voice. She looks desperate to help me. It makes me feel a little bad, honestly, worrying her like this. Bad enough to make me cave.

"I guess holding it in isn't helping," I sigh. Where do I even start with this? "Uh... Remember that werewolf guy?"

"The one that tried to kill you?"

My stomach turns inside out. "Yeah," I manage. "That guy. He... uh... He taught me everything I know."

Star sits up straight. "What!? H-how did that even happen?"

"Our families were friends. I knew him basically my whole life." I feel like I'm gonna puke just talking about him but I keep going. "He got me into rock. Into guitar. It made me feel like... I don't know... like I amounted to something. I wanted to be just like him when I grew up."

"Sky..."

I distantly realize my voice is raising. "I thought The Band of Darkness was protecting our kingdom. I thought he was protecting our kingdom and I wanted to do the same. I was gonna be just like him."

"Sky?"

"He was my best friend. No, he was like- he was like a-a brother, and-"

"Skylar!" Star grabs me by the shoulders. She looks me dead in the eyes, filled with sorrow, wanting to understand.

Oh no my eyes are stinging. I break free from her grip and turn away, move to the other side of the room if I have to.

"Sky! Sky, no, I'm so sorry for prying!" Star says.

"It's fine," I croak. I wipe at my eyes until the lids are raw. Star's arms wrap around me, pull me into a tight hug. Her heart beats against my silent chest.

"I'm here for you, girl."

I think about responding but if any sound comes out of my mouth it's gonna lead to crying.

"You have real friends now," Star says. "I promise, I'll never try to hurt you or turn out to be evil or something. In fact... hold on, I'm gonna cheer you up!" She lets go and runs over to a big wardrobe. Or well... I thought the outside looked big but when she opens it I see the inside is gigantic. The wardrobe opens into a walk-in closet that's even bigger than her bedroom!

She grabs me by the hands and guides me inside. "Come in!"

Rows and rows of clothes hang on the walls, hyper-organized by color and type and length and fabric and probably other stuff I can't pick up on. There's a shelf taller than either of us just for shoes and another just for tiaras. Before, I'd been surprised that her room didn't have a vanity since she loves makeup so much but now I see that's because her vanity is in here and boy is it ever loaded with the stuff.

The shock makes me forget my sorrow for the time being. "How... How is this..."

"I can't really give you the physics on how all this fits in my wardrobe, but I call it the 'bigger on the inside' spell. We use it all over the palace. It's how we managed to fit a whole boarding school and military base inside without the outside building blocking out the sun wherever it goes."

"Whoa..." is all I can say. I've been shocked by a lot of the Land of Light's technology over the past month. Machines that wash and dry clothes for you, little boxes you just stick food inside to reheat, moving pictures you can watch on screens. Where I'm from you have to be pretty rich to get stuff like that yet the kids here act like that stuff is totally normal. But this... This can't be normal anywhere. "Where do you even get all these clothes?" I ask her.

"Oh, the nicer pieces come from my tailors," she says like tailors are something anyone has. "But a lot of it comes from shops all over the kingdom. It's one of the perks that comes with always moving around!"

"So..." I say, picking up a glittery pair of shoes. "Where are these from, then?"

"Ah..." Star says, ears flattening. "Careful with those, they're a gift."

I put them back gently. "Gift, huh? From who?"

Star gives a coy smile. "An admirer."

"Admirer?"

"Mm hm. I forget which one, it's hard to keep track of them all."

Wow. We really are from different worlds. "I can't imagine having your problems..."

Star frowns. "Sky, look, I know you're... not exactly the most popular kid at school, but that's no reason to let it get to you."

I snort. "That's easy to say when you're a gorgeous princess with a magical singing voice who's famous for something she hasn't done yet."

"You think I'm gorgeous?" Star asks, playing with her hair. "I-I mean, yeah, maybe I have it easy but-"

"But what? I'm a total freak no matter where I go." I'm suddenly aware of how small I am compared to this huge closet. I turn and there's a mirror in front of me. Everything around me sparkles, including Star. Everything is so colorful, full of life. Even my uniform. But not me. "Sometimes I think... I don't know... What am I even doing here?" Star comes up beside me. Flawless tan skin. Not a shiny hair out of place. A perfectly pressed princess next to an undead loser.

"There's no way," Star says.

"What?"

"There's no way the girl I saw spit in the face of the guy that was threatening her with an axe is this insecure."

"What? No, I'm not insecure," I say. "You think an insecure person would commit treason just to get into this school?"

"I think an insecure person would freeze up every time she has a crowd watching her and would call herself a total freak."

I sigh. "Okay, maybe I'm a little insecure..."

"Exactly. Which begs the question of why."

I give an empty chuckle. "You want the short version or..."

"Sky, come on."

I shake my head. "I don't know, it wasn't that bad until lately. I thought getting away from the Isle would... I don't know... I've just got a lot of baggage back there and..."

"Didn't you have friends?" she asks.

The answer almost hurts too much to give. "I, uh... It's... The weird quiet kid is an easy target..."

"What?"

I take off my blazer, roll up my right sleeve. I can't believe I'm doing this, but something about her brings my guard down. She just seems so sincere, somehow.

"See this?" I ask her, pointing to the scar down the top of my forearm. "Got that last year from someone who thought it'd be funny to see what the albino that kept getting kicked out of schools would do if he pushed her around enough. And this one?" I say, undoing the top buttons on my shirt and showing the four lines of scar tissue embedded in my chest, "Five years ago. I don't even remember how it got there but it was with a fork and it hurt real bad."

Star is horrified. "Oh my goodness, I had no idea!"

"Of course you didn't," I say, covering myself back up. "I'm not letting anyone see that."

I'm doing the last button on my blazer when I realize Star is weeping. "I'm so sorry," she sniffles. "If I had known-"

"There's nothing to be sorry about," I tell her. I pat her on the back and her whimpers stop. "My point is, I... I guess I just thought things would be better here. But it turns out I'm even more different here than I ever was back home. Even my roommate hates me."

Star doesn't know what to say for a moment. "What's so bad about being different?" she finally asks. "If anything, I'd say that's one of the coolest things about you."

"What?"

"No, really! I mean, you're really downplaying how big of a deal it is that you're the first monster to be a student here. I don't even know how you got your application in in the first place."

"Illegal magic may have been involved," I admit.

"And then you made it all the way across Saline Deep by yourself just because you wanted to do what was right."

"I did, didn't I?" I say. Obviously, I knew I'd done it, but it never struck me as amazing before. It was just what I had to do.

"The two of us battled the Band of Darkness on our first day of school and lived to tell the tale!"

"Yeah. Yeah, we did!"

Star puts an arm around my shoulders and pulls me in. "Girl, you're amazing! Anyone who doesn't see that isn't looking right!"

I smile for real. I notice she doesn't look down at my fangs this time like she's been doing this whole month.

"You know, as weird as it sounds, I actually felt a little insecure myself when I first became a princess," Star says. "It was really awkward, going from being a penniless orphan to being waited on hand and foot. I didn't feel like the prophetic paragon everyone said I'd become. But then I learned a little trick, which actually brings me to why I brought you in here in the first place." She heads over to what looks like a second wardrobe inside the one we're already in, but when she opens it the only thing inside it is countless pieces of sparkling jewelry. She picks up a necklace and walks back over to me.

"You're spoiled, you know that?" I say playfully.

Star flips her hair. "Oh, I'm well aware. Here, I went through a massive rainbow phase when I was thirteen before finally realizing it super clashed with my hair color. But on you, I think it'll look perfect." She holds up the long chain, a pale, rainbow-colored jewel cut in the shape of a heart hanging from it. "Don't worry, the chain isn't silver, it's platinum."

My eyebrows raise. "Platinum?"

"Well, I'm not giving you a necklace that'll burn your skin and gold is so tacky-"

"Why are you giving me this?"

"Because you need to learn a lesson about being comfy in your own skin."

"Isn't it supposed to be the inside that counts?"

Star scoffs. "Well, duh! Exactly! The way I see it, if the insides and outsides don't match, of course you're not gonna feel good about yourself. You're not seeing the best parts of you. And for most people, seeing is believing."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying that I use this..." she twirls, gesturing to the massive closet around her. "To turn my outer vessel into a mode of expression for my inner self."

I blink in confusion.

"I use fashion to express myself," she says. "I'm a beacon of hope, a shining star! That's why I wear so many sparklies! Not to get people to like me but because it represents me! And what's not to like about me?" She lovingly caresses a purple ring on her finger. "Amethyst has been out of style for years now and is only semiprecious but I still wear it because it's just so me! And if you ask me, no matter how many people say you're some scary creature of the night, this necklace will remind everyone you meet that behind those fangs is a beautiful heart."

"My heart doesn't work," I say.

"Your metaphorical heart, silly!" Star says. "Now, come here." She sits me at her vanity, moves my hair out of the way, and slips the necklace on me. Her warm fingers fiddle with the clasp on the back of my neck, tickling me. I fight the urge not to squirm from the feeling. She moves my hair back behind my shoulders. Frowns in concentration. Moves a bit in front again. Smooths my bangs. Ruffles them again. "There we go."

I try to see myself with fresh eyes. I see a vampire in a Royal Academy of Rock uniform. I see unkempt hair, falling on the shoulder pads of a pristine blazer. I see dark circles in a face I can admit is pretty symmetrical. I see the only set of fangs in this building. And underneath it I see a colorful, glittering heart. A paradox in the form of a person. I guess that is kinda cool.

Star smiles. "Looks like I'm not the only gorgeous girl in this room."

"What if no one agrees?"

"Well, that sounds like a them problem," Star says. We giggle.

I leave Star's room feeling a lot better than I did coming in. Not perfect by any stretch. But better. Definitely better.

But there's something still there. A darkness that won't leave.

1. Favorite place to write.

Hmmmm right now it’s at my desk, which is currently in the living room. It used to be the table, which was also in the living room lmao. Or my bed, or the couch. I also enjoy writing while at the library.

3. Least favorite part of writing.

Currently it’s world-building. My novel has changed worlds three times, and I’m revamping it yet again.

But oh, my god, also, revision. Oh my fucking god. I hate it. it’s good, it’s necessary, but I hate it.

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most.

God, this question. So here’s the thing: a lot of time, I’ll read something I like and I’ll try out stuff from that author’s writing style and incorporate it into my own. Sometimes it fails and sometimes it stays. And for the most part, it’s from fanfiction. You’re one of them, prelude - I have fun playing around with the way you phrase things, and you’ve definitely taught me to work on the themes of what I’m writing better. KouriArashi is one - they write Teen Wolf fic and are a major part of the reason that I write in present tense for the most part. I also have fun with Scifigrl47′s stuff - she writes the Toasterverse, which is Marvel fics. The way she writes the team interactions is a lot of fun to fuck around with. Also, @taizi‘s TMNT fics, the way she writes the turtles interacting influenced how I’ve been working with the Tracy boys. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

8. Favorite trope to write.

Found family. Big group of misfits who find each other and are assholes together. Preferably ones that fight crime or have to learn teamwork or whatever together. Hell yeah. That’s my shit.

13.How do you deal with writers block?

Screaming. Nah, uh, I’ll read. If I’m writing fic I’ll rewatch/reread the source material. I’ll get a prompt or something, drink some tea, eat some chocolate, take a shower, go for a walk. Meditating, sometimes. All that sounds like a healthy way to do it, so I’ll admit that I also watch and rewatch vine compilations and Achievement Hunter videos and fuck around on tumblr. Yeah. Yup.

21.Post the last sentence you wrote in one of your WIP’s.

“Let’s do this, then,” Scott says.

(The Stranger Things AU, which I will eventually get done with revising. Oh God, kill me.)

34.Handwritten notes or typed notes?

Both. For the most part, I do typed notes, but if I have to do an overhaul of a plot or timeline or I’m really stuck, I get out a notebook and just go throughout the whole damn thing.

54.Any writing advice you want to share?

Oh, man. Write. Just write. Do a lot of it. Write for yourself. I got asked recently how much of the fics that I write that I don’t share and my god, so much. Sometimes you’re just like ‘oh hey I wanna write this thing but others would think it was weird.’ Write it anyway. Oh, my god, just write it anyway. Just write. I have an AU of Thunderbirds where Alan goes to college. I’ll never ever share it because it’s a whole bunch of self indulgent stuff, but writing that stuff has helped me learn. I don’t have to share it. I have a TMNT ‘verse that is filled with like 20 OCs that two of my friends and I have just gone to town on. And now those OCs are the major players in my original stuff.

Seriously, just write. All of it. Any of it. Don’t delete it. Move it to other documents and rewrite, but one day you’ll look back and be like ‘holy shit I wrote so much’ and maybe you’ll read through it and hate it but then you can tell how much you’ve learned! And sometimes you’ll read through it and be like ‘holy shit this is good shit’ and find something you can work on, or a line you want to use, or just something to make you smile. And yeeee.

Thus far, Livedoor news has covered Engeki Haikyuu for the re-run show: “View from the Top,” “Karasuno, Revival!,” and “Winners and Losers.” On September 8, the curtain will rise on the long-awaited new production, “Summer of Evolution.” In it, we will welcome Kageyama Tatsuya as the new Kageyama Tobio, and a new Hinata & Kageyama duo will be born.

Suga: For me, for everyone on the Karasuno High School Volleyball Team, and for everyone in the entire company, changing the actor for Kageyama is definitely a big deal. I think there’s no way that the relationship between Hinata and Kageyama won’t change, or that the company as a whole won’t change. Kageyama: For me… in any case, I just want to do my best. I want to adapt to the atmosphere that’s in the company already, and as for the play… I just have no choice but to give it my all.

Kageyama-san, when you found out that you were chosen to play Kageyama Tobio, how did you feel?

Kageyama: I was so surprised, I thought they were lying at first. Suga: Ah ha ha!! Really? Your manager must be so encouraging (laughs).

Have you seen any of the Engeki Haikyuu shows up to now?

Kageyama: The first time I saw it was the dress rehearsal for the first run! Suga: Really?! So from the beginning! Kageyama: The way they presented the flow of the ball and the match with the use of real volleyballs, and the way the slanted stage* would turn around and around was really innovative. I love the Haikyuu manga and I’ve been reading since the first volume, and I was really impressed by the way the world of the manga filled that stage. My eyes were glued to the show. I was also able to see the opening night of Winners and Losers. And I could really feel the passion, the teamwork that they’d built, and the strength of the company from my seat in the audience. Suga: He was really paying attention! (laughs)

Through the three stories there have been so far, if we compare Hinata and Kageyama’s relationship from the beginning to now, they’ve gone through a lot of development. Given that, and given the parts that have been shown regarding their progress, are there any difficulties in building this new relationship?

Suga: I think so. Well, we haven’t done any plays together, and there are some things that we aren’t allowed to say… (Note: this interview took place at the end of June) Kageyama: That’s true. Suga: Up to this point, Hinata and Kageyama have butted heads on various things and fought a lot… there really was a lot of that, and in this production too, there will be scenes like that. But, if we show any of our (personal) difficulties in those, that’ll translate to a sense of unease to the audience, so I want those particular scenes to go as smoothly as possible. Kageyama: This show will mainly focus on the training camp, and I think there will be a lot of scenes were Hinata and Kageyama are together outside of a match, and I want to work very carefully on that sense of distance between us. Suga: Those two do nothing but fight, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t get along. Hinata has said that Kageyama is the first person he could call a “partner” and not just a “friend.” Kageyama: -nods in agreement- Suga: When we were working on the first show, I was told by our director, Worry Kinoshita-san, to not be too friendly with Tatsunari. But I think that was because of how Hinata and Kageyama’s initial meeting is depicted.

I see.

Suga: But this time, Hinata and Kageyama’s relationship is already so deep, so I think I want us to very quickly develop our relationship with each other and develop our daily life as the Karasuno High School Volleyball Team. …do you wanna go out to eat? Kageyama: I do! Suga: All right! Kageyama: I really think we have to challenge ourselves to the end. There are no shortcuts, we just have to steadily go forward, step by step. Suga: Can I get credit for what Kageyama-kun just said? (laughs) Kageyama: Ehh!? Hang on! (laughs)

Kageyama-san, you will be playing a character named Kageyama, so exactly what do the two of you call each other?

Suga: That’s the thing! Since his name is Kageyama, I’ve been wondering what to call him, and actually I was worrying about that just now. But I had thought that we were maybe only a year apart, so when I heard that he was 25, I thought, “Oh, he’s my senpai…!” Kageyama: No no no no!! The amount of experience we have is totally different...!!** But, I’ve also been thinking about what to call you. Suga: Then, let’s decide what we’ll call each other right now.

Ohh! A great idea!

Kageyama: Eh… What should I call you? (He looks at Suga-san, considering) Suga: Honestly, anything is fine. Kenta even. Kageyama: Hmm… I think there are a lot of “Kenta”s and “Ken-chan”s, and, well, I’ve been calling you “Suga-chan” in my head… Suga: Eh?! Why?! (laughs) Kageyama: Just because. (laughs) Suga: I am definitely not used to being called that, so I’m not at all prepared to just suddenly accept that and go, “Ahh, let’s go with Suga-chan then.”! (laughs) Kageyama: Ah ha ha! Suga: Well… but… if Suga-chan is okay with you, then it’s totally fine. Normally what do people call you? Kageyama: Usually Kage-chan, or Kage-kun, or Kage-san… Suga: Ahh, a lot of variations of your family name. Kageyama: Absolutely. It definitely seems to have a little more impact. But, there are some weirdos who call me “Chan-man.” Suga: Chan-man? Where did that come from? Kageyama: From Kage-chan-man. Although that’s my Twitter account name. Suga: No but, where did the Kage- go! (laughs) Kageyama: (laughs) Suga: Okay. Since you’re going with Suga-chan, it’s all right if I stick -chan onto your name and make it cute, right? Kageyama: In that case, what about… Tacchan? Suga: Ahh, Tacchan is pretty cute. Especially since I’ve never once called Tatsunari, ‘Tacchan.’ (laughs) Given that, I think it’ll it be easy to call you that!

So the atmosphere of the entire cast changes when cast members change?

Suga: It definitely changes. …the most recent change was honestly huge. Kageyama: I can see that. Suga: Yeah. During the re-run, even for returning cast members it was pretty tough. That’s why it was probably even more difficult for the newly added cast members. Kageyama: I see… Suga: But at that time, I think it was just because we were doing the same story with different members. This time it’ll be a new story with the change in cast, so it’s still unknown what kind of team we’ll become. Kageyama: I’m sure there will be many things we won’t know until we at least try. Suga: Exactly. Since we already have a method to how we run Engeki Haikyuu, and in addition to that, we’re given a lot of liberties… even for the returning cast members, if we can change up how we do things, I think that would be really good too.

And as the Engeki Haikyuu cast leader?

Suga: When it comes to that, honestly every time we do this the atmosphere changes exactly like a school, so to be honest I don’t really give too much thought to that title… It’s just that, with the new cast members we’ve added, there’s no way things won’t change. So I think what we need to do is build the company up from square one with everyone all together, in the same way we built the first show.

Kageyama-san, as an actor, is there anything you want to learn or steal from your Engeki Haikyuu senpai, Suga-san?

Suga: (laughs) Nothing, right? Kageyama: Of course there are! First off, I want to see how he behaves at rehearsals. Then I want to steal his presence or something. Suga: Ah ha ha! Kageyama: I’m interested to see how he is normally, and then how he flips the switch on. Suga: Ehh, even I don’t know that. I really just go about rehearsals naturally. Kageyama: And not just that. Like today when he was showing such consideration for the camera-man during the photoshoot, or his demeanor and the way he speaks to the staff around us, the way he greets people… Suga: I’m being seriously analyzed here! (laughs) Kageyama: I just thought that he was amazing, so first off, I’ll start studying from there… Suga: Enough, enough! (laughs) Kageyama: Since Hinata and Kageyama are a pair, I think it’s best that I get to know all kinds of things about my partner. Since I’ve seen the play several times, that’s something I already want to tackle at full strength. I think there’ll be a lot of tackling and being tackled, but I feel like there will be a lot of things I can absorb from that. Suga: Honestly, I think being a new cast member and joining everyone else is really tough. On top of that, especially with Kageyama, he has to create a relationship not just with Hinata but with all the other characters too. I think he’ll have to put in a substantial amount of effort. Kageyama: I want to face rehearsals with a completely open mind!

Since we’re doing this interview with just the two of you, Kageyama-san, do you have anything you’d like to ask Suga-san about the things that go on at the actual scene of Engeki Haikyuu?

Kageyama: I do! I want to ask about rehearsals! Suga: Like, things that happen? (thinking) Kageyama: To start, since I don’t know anything about the general atmosphere of the company, maybe something about how rehearsals tend to proceed… or something. Or how you build the show together. Suga: Ahh, I see. Rehearsals are… I think they’re more difficult than you’d expect. (laughs) We work all day from morning until night. Kageyama: In a single match, there are a lot of things to remember about movement and group formations and stuff, right? Suga: Absolutely. But since Karasuno always has matches against various schools, there are times at rehearsals when we go, “Wait, when did we use this spike? Which match against which school?!” Kageyama: Ahh… Suga: After that, we naturally move on to points of presentation. There are plenty of opportunities when you can submit to Worry-san anything you’ve been thinking about and discuss it with him. If it works, then those suggestions will gradually be used. Engeki Haikyuu is that kind of place. Kageyama: And are there times when Karasuno comes together as a whole team to discuss things? Suga: With the Karasuno cast, we probably have gathered the most independent-artist-type actors more than any of the other schools. (laughs) Even though the other teams practice together tons and discuss together things they can’t do…

And Karasuno…?

Suga: We never do that. (laughs) Kageyama: Eh!? Really?! Suga: We all go eat out together normally and make a ruckus, and that’s really the feel of Karasuno. Despite that, when we say, “Let’s do it!” we really do come together as a team. That’s been the way Karasuno has done things up till now, but since the ambience is going to change with this production, we may become a much more serious team. (laughs)

And of course there’s volleyball practice as well?

Suga: Yes, there’s that too. Before rehearsals we warm up and play a rally with everyone that feels like just playing around.

Kageyama-san, do you have any volleyball experience?

Kageyama: Actually, my only experience with it is from school P.E. classes. I was on the soccer team the entire time… Suga: Oh, is that right?

In that case, will Suga-san be teaching Kageyama-san volleyball maybe…?

Suga: I’d be no good. Kageyama: Ehh! (laughs) Suga: I’m not a volleyball player either, so I wouldn’t be able to teach him…

Is there someone on Karasuno who could teach him with confidence?

Suga: On Karasuno we don’t have any volleyball players really. Ken-chan says he used to play, but it really doesn’t feel like he has that experience. (laughs) But for Nekoma High School, Kuroo’s actor Kondou Shouri is a really dedicated player! Kageyama: That’s right! If I need to know something about volleyball, it’ll be fine if I just ask Kondou-san. Suga: Exactly. But since you’re going to be a setter, that’s a little bit different so that’ll be difficult too.

The secondary title of this production is “Summer of Evolution,” so what is something the two of you would like to do this summer?

Suga: This summer, huh! Kageyama: This summer… maybe a barbeque… Except everyone already did that didn’t they. Suga: That’s right~. We did that on a TV program. Yep… since I’ve already done a barbeque, I wanna go on a drive and feel the ocean. Kageyama: That’s nice! Suga: Before this, I went to Kamakura with some friends. We ate seafood donburi and soba, and lots of other things… it was a lot of fun! Kageyama: I also went on vacation to Kamakura just before this. Suga: Eh! Really? Kageyama: Yes. I went to Enoshima and wandered around various temples! Suga: Even though we both went to Kamakura, the things we did don’t overlap at all. (laughs) One on a trip for food, the other on a trip for wandering around temples. (laughs)

Please tell us if there’s anything recently that you’ve newly gotten into.

Kageyama: Lately I’ve really gotten into fishing. Suga: Ooh! Kageyama: So at the same time that I go on a drive, I’ll go all the way to the ocean, go fishing, then take the fish I catch, cut it into sashimi, and eat it there. Suga: You know how to handle fish? That’s amazing! Kageyama: I know more or less how to prepare fish! Suga: That’s great! That’s really intense. I just go home and watch movies. The super indoors-type. (laughs) Kageyama: Going home and relaxing while watching a movie is good too!

Suga-san is the indoor type, and Kageyama-san is the outdoorsy type. Even the way the two of you spend your private life is on both ends of the spectrum, and I wonder if maybe we might see this come through in the relationship between Hinata and Kageyama. Lastly, if you could please give a message to everyone who’s looking forward to this play.

Suga: To live up to the secondary title, “Summer of Evolution,” I think it’s time for Engeki Haikyuu to enter a new stage of evolution. I think we’ve established our own unique genre with the 4 productions of Engeki Haikyuu so far, and it is a production that will continue to expand that world. I want us to proceed in our unique Engeki Haikyuu style so that it’ll leave the audience going, “That was something really amazing!”

Kageyama: I really love the Haikyuu manga, and I never thought that I’d be able to become involved with the series in this way. When I got this role, I was shocked, but now I’m full of nothing but happiness… As a fan and as an athlete, I can’t mess this up. In any case, I think I have to do my absolute best so that the audience will be able to have fun. Since this will be my first Haikyuu show, I think I’ll end up dragging everyone on the cast into a lot of things, but if we build this up from square one… no, from square zero, then I think we’ll be able to show the audience some really fun stuff. I’m going to do my best!!

*The term Kageyama uses for the slanted stage in Japanese essentially translates to “Produce-stand Stage” or a “Greengrocer Stage,” because it resembles the way a fruit stand appears tilted toward the viewer to display everything on the stand. As a term used in theater circles, the interviewer had included a parenthesis after Kageyama’s use of the word to explain its meaning. I opted to remove the parenthetical note and Kageyama’s use of terminology for a smoother sentence.

**Kageyama is of course referring to the fact that since Kenta has been acting since he was a child, he has a much more expansive portfolio than himself. If anyone would be the senpai between them, it would be Kenta.

SO AMBS is starting out and traveled to the earth kingdom. Comes from a family of multibenders, with deep ancestry to the South Pole making them a water bender. They’re very good and charming, and they have this habit of forming stories with the water (forming it fluidly in the air, taking a lot of dedication and concentration) for fun, but like they gonna kick your ass also for fun. SO they travel cause they wanna see the world, and they go to an earth kingdom and they’re like “o damn.” Queue meeting Ti and Ti is like “wat the fuck is up, I’m an earth bender” and Amber is :O and Ti is like “Oh I know, I specialize with crystals and lava” and Amber continues to be like :O so they spend some time there just gabbing with Ti and they become good friends but then Ambs is like “kay I wanna keep travelling” and Ti is like “hey hey hey, I would also love to travel” so Ambs is like “come be my friend and copilot” and Ti is like “oh fuck yes” and Amber is like “but I don’t know where to go to next” and Ti is like “hey hey hey… you know the avatar…?” and Amber is like “I know of the avatar, certainly” and Ti is like “well they’re in that other earth kingdom you know” and Amber is like “WE MOVIN”

They go to the other earth kingdom and they’re like “oh wow the avatar I wanna meet the avatar the avatar would be really cool” and then they meet the avatar and it’s me and I’m like “these powers don’t let me meet pretty girls so what’s the fucking point” and they’re like oh wow the avatar is Not As Cool as previously determined and then I’m like “hey hey y’all are cute tho” and I shimmy over but fall on my way over which continues the trend of Not Cool but I’m like “however this is my Very Cool friend also from the earth kingdom” and here comes Lucian fuckin spidermanning over on some metal fabric and is like “sup I’m Lucian” and then instant friendship, because who wouldn’t want to be friends with spiderman and so they pal around with us and then friendship and I’m like “hey would any of you three, perhaps, be a water, fire, and/or air bender” to which there is a response of “I am a water bender” from amber and I go “please teach me wise one, I’ve already learned earth and metal from this extravagant beast here” and Lucian flexes and then Ti comes up like “I specialize in lava and crystal” and I go “holy butts teach me that as well” and Ti goes “oh certainly” so the avatar not only adds the ability to water, lava, and crystal bend but also the power of friendship and they do a sick four-way high five and travel into the sunset

Amber is like “hey there is a city on over here” and we are like god DAMN IT Amber you are a FANTASTIC traveler and a wonderful friend and also so beautiful and we so very much love you please take us to this city and so they do and we love them more SO. Here comes Gator who is super shy and chill and they technically avoided us a lot but then we saw them with a bunch of cute lil animals around them as they fed them and they were just So cute and we all fell in love and went “we must protect this darling creature” and so we all looked each other in the eye, nodded, and the adoption process was underway. Gator was kind of like “holy shit this is intimidating whom the fuck?” and we were like “hey, uh, hey, we love you?” and Gator was like “well what a coincidence I love love” and we were like “[beep] yes (shouldn’t curse with the youngins)” and so Gator is like “I WILL TEACH YOU AIR BENDING and these cool magic tricks and also how to create tornados and shit… if u want…” and I was like “oh my God Im going to feed you so much good food also YOU’RE AN AIR BENDER” and Gator was like “yeah I’m the only one in the city but she it’s a secret” and we were all wowed because tat’s AMAZING and it means they’re self taught so they’re fucking smart and we were just like HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT and they’re strong because secret secret, they got a secret, and we started weeping openly and Gator was like “what” and we all just went “what” and so we all nodded and hugged Gator and Gator was a lil overwhelmed but they loved it so we all left, but this time on Gator’s flying bison and with several other new pets

We travel and it turns out Gator gets even more delightful when they warm up to people and whenever they talk about their special interests their eyes sparkle and we love this air bending gator and we ask them to do tricks all the time because they’re so?? Cool?? And they oblige and Ti shows us cool as hell crystals and starts fires for us out of Lava and Lucian is like “I’M HARD CORE LIKE METAL” and we laugh and Amber is just so chill and lovely and it’s wonderful totally amazing we have a wonderful time on our travels and everyone teaches me stuff and it’s so cool, everyone is excellent teachers

But suddenly, when on an unhabituated island

Someone runs out of a forest and into our camp and we’re like “hey who the fuck” and danie is like “I- I THE FUCK, THERE’S A BIG ANIMAL BIG BIG ANIMAL BYE” and they just keep runnin and we’re like “surely it cannot be that big”

However

It was.

SO JUST BASED OFF INSTINCT WE START BOLTING FROM THIS CREATURE and everyone was like “hey uh ur the avatar and you’re at least somewhat trained in three elements so what the fuck” and I was like “okay but I’m having performance issues due to anxiety” and they were like “oh no oh fuck no get ur shit together” and then suddenly we were like oh yeah team work, teamwork works, so we all like. Subdued the beast and it was chill and danie was like “oh hello, avatar you say” and I was like “oh my god finally a pretty lady holy shit” and I waltz on over like “hey… sup… how you doin…. It’s me, the avatar… big deal, you know… me… the avatar…” and I go to lean on a tree but miss but she digs it and I’m like “oh fuck yes finally” So she joins our camp and chills with us and is like “yea I’m a water healer but I ran away from home because Depression Session” to which amber and danie immediately bond over the water thing but Amber is like NO WE MUST MAKE YOU HAPPY FOUND FAMILY TROPE YOU’RE PART OF IT NOW and I’m like “hey teach me healing too” and then I flirt but that’s embarrassing and Ti is like “I lava you all” and Lucian is like “spiderman” and sleeps in a nearby tree and Gator Is like “I love my new found family” and Amber, the wise one, is like “okay but hey it’s cool that you are going to learn healing, that is a very good thing to learn,” and we all looked at one another and went “truly” because we forgot Our Kickass Mission that may kill us (which is what some of us want but I digress) so Amber is like “we have to get a firemaster and a REALLY good one like REALLY good” and I pipe up like “yes, exactly, yes” and our search continues for the final piece of the puzzle

So like we were like “okay so we gotta find a cool ass firebender” everyone nodded and said “tru” but then Amber, yet again the wise one, said “ah but you know what would also be a good idea” to which someone said “loving you” and they said “yes, but also. There’s a sacred scroll within a fire nation city that we should steal that has all the dates of historical missions and also the cycles of solstices and shit like it’s smart shit I feel like we should have” and we were like “god damn it yes but we gotta do thisand be sneaky” and Gator was like “okay we need to blend in with the people, when in rome, and then we’ll sneak in”

So costume change, we all look great, it’s amazing, but I gotta hide the tattoos, but it’s great we’re all fabulous obviously. And as we go along we stumble across a guy lamenting by himself against a wall, moving fire in his hands. I squint. “Look at that emo looking fuck.” “Yes, he’s quite emo,” Lucian responds. Ti agrees, “okay but the mission” and I go “no that’s the firebender we want” and everyone was confused and I was like “1. He’s cute. 2. The more emo a firebender looks, the better they are a firebender, this is like? Common knowledge guys. 3. He’s cute.” And then everyone was like “oh yeah that’s true.”

So.

We stroll on up and he is like, “Hello. Isaac here.” And we’re like “oh hello Isaac” and he’s like “hello. Isaac here.” And danie is like “hey can you keep a secret” and Isaac is like “I can keep a secret and many others yes, but you’re really going to tell a stranger a secret” and we’re all like “we’re very loving and trusting people you seem like a good egg” and Isaac is like “well I can’t argue with that” and we’re like “hey this is the avatar and we need a firemaster to teach her” and he’s like “oh hey I’m a firemaster that can teach her also the avatar? Cool fuck this place *hair flip* smh let me train you.” And we’re like YES but we gotta steal some shit and he’s like “cool fuck this place *hair flip* smh let me steal shit with you.”

So we all have a team and we steal the scroll with some atla/mission impossible type shit and it’s wonderful and Isaac becomes the new emo firemaster And the adventure for the found family continues.

MCU Rewatch: “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015)

This post isn’t as long as the one I wrote for Avengers but it’s still pretty long.

In all fairness, after The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it was fair to expect Age of Ultron to be just as good, but it shouldn’t have been a surprise that it wasn’t.

But some kind of end-credit scene would have been nice.

The Bartons’ farmhouse has a very nice kitchen

The real villain of the film is the Mind Stone. The opening shot of the film is the Sceptre. The Mind Stone created Ultron and gave him his incentive to destroy the world and attack the Avengers--whether due to some scientific reaction or intentionally. Re: my theory that the Infinity Stones should be regarded as actual “characters”, AoU demonstrates it

The main characters are: the Maximoff twins, Tony Stark, and Clint Barton.

The Avengers

By the time the film opens, the Avengers have been taking down Hydra and they’ve been unstoppable.

The team has a working relationship with JARVIS--we see at least Steve talking to him

Their teamwork is incredible. Steve is sharing his shield with Nat. I’m sure she’s not the only one but we got her doing it onscreen and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Also Clint tossing the Shield to Steve; the team throwing the robots to each other to beat up, it’s great to watch

“Code Green” only happens occasionally, not every time

Does that mean Banner plays the “man in the chair” on other occasions from the QuinJet?

On their various missions, they have fought other “enhanced” people

The Avengers have their own satellite. It’s not just Veronica on there, they’ve got surveillance and stuff. It probably helps with their communications.

Wolfgang von Strucker let the other Hydra bases be found bc they didn’t concern him or his experiments. But he didn’t think the Avengers would come for them. An arrogant miscalculation.

But he’s also a coward

Hydra has always more or less wanted an army of super-humans. They weren’t satisfied with just the Winter Soldier--and how could they be?

Ulysses Klaue was in contact with Strucker and they had talked very recently

Tony Stark:

By the end of the film, Steve takes Thor and Tony’s word for it that alien threats are still out there. But Steve doesn’t understand how seriously Tony takes that threat and how personally it affects him

Part of it is because no one was really listening in the scene after Ultron awakens when Tony talked about those fears. As soon as he said “Do you all remember when I went through a wormhole?” they thought he was expressing self-pity. They told him to minimize those fears at least momentarily because Ultron was the bigger issue at the moment.

Also Tony never told the rest of the team about the dream Wanda gave him.

Probably because he didn’t think they would listen. Chances are, he was right on that count.

Steve and Tony aren’t super-close friends like the way Steve and Bucky used to be. But they were friends. They had a cordial working relationship. So those of you saying Tony in Civil War saying “So was I” was an arrogant assumption are incorrect--but those of you saying Steve at least owed Tony some personal loyalty are also correct.

Tony’s dream: Why didn’t you do more? Tony isn’t just afraid of aliens returning. He’s afraid of his own inadequacy. He’s afraid of failure.

Tony knows the team doesn’t understand what he’s been through. Tony also knows that the team doesn’t understand what the possibility of a permanent solution means: because some of them don’t have real “homes” to go to. And Tony kind of wants to end the personal hell he’s been living in for the last seven years. If he can. I think by the end of this movie Tony realizes that maybe finding something to replace the Avengers isn’t the best idea

There also is kind of something suspicious about him creating an AI that immediately attacked him and his friends. Maybe the Mind Stone tapped into Tony’s self-loathing and his...distrust of the others. IDK how that would already have been written into Ultron but remember we are dealing with cosmic forces here

It’s nice that even without an AI that Tony still has working internet in his suits

Ulysses Klaue knew Tony Stark well enough to recognize one of his catchphrases. What aren’t you telling us, Tony? (Chances are I don’t wanna know, actually)

Trying to harness forces that you don’t understand to solve your personal problems and everybody else’s problems is just a terrible way to deal with life

Watching Tony attempt that is not fun.

The Banner-to-Hulk and back transformation is painful and uncomfortable

Strucker had a chitauri slug monster in that vault. Tony’s PTSD was triggered as soon as he entered the room. Wanda just pushed him over the edge.

Thor had been looking for the sceptre since SHIELD fell. You have to assume that SHIELD had it in some kind of security--or they thought they did. All Strucker had to do was to contact the right Hydra sleepers and he had it for his personal use.

The Mind Stone created Ultron. Also Strucker created the robot bodies. Tony Stark did not create Ultron. Got it?

I like the party scene because it shows how some of the 06 have a life outside of Avenging.

Are those old vets at the party people that Steve knows/has met, or did Tony invite them?

Ultron wearing the mysterious cloak is super dope and my brother agrees

One of the weaker points of this film is that a lot of exposition happens in scenes in between the big action sequences. Like, exposition that explains tiny technical details

Fury and Hill absolutely pwned that Robot

Seeing Peggy in Steve’s dream kills me. Every time.

Natasha:

Wanda convinced Steve to not trust Tony Stark

At the very least, Steve (A) was very aware that Tony dealing with something he didn’t understand behind everyone’s back had gotten them in the Ultron mess in the first place (B) he felt the need to tell Tony that doing so again was a bad idea, and (C) walking into the lab and seeing Tony already messing with it did not improve things

This whole thing really could have been avoided if someone else had taken Barton to the QuinJet and Thor had personally retrieved the scepter instead of letting Tony do it

Civil War really actually almost started over the cradle

But then Thor showed up and he didn’t say anything to explain stuff, he just did his thing with the hammer and the lighting

Also the tragedy at the end could have been avoided if someone had locked up the QuinJet, or even just hopped it over to the Helicarrier when it showed up--not like anybody had time but still

Thor saves a lady from falling--and she looks up and sees him--is that adoration in her face?

Laura tells Clint that he needs to look after the team and make sure they can work together, subtext: the world kind of depends on it

Helen Cho: *sass*

Clint has probably always wanted to bring the other Avengers to the farm.

The Barton Farm probably has really great internet security. Probably the best SHIELD had to offer before it fell.

Did anybody get any real sleep while they were at Bartons?

Because it seems to me like the only time the Avengers got any sleep was during their trans-continental flights--but even then whatever jets they were flying in probably weren’t that comfy to sleep in

Ultron takes turns with each of the Avengers to pick a fight with them. He gets real pleasure out of intimidating each of them.

Sokovians hates America. They’ve been under communist rule for most of the last century so what do you expect? They hate American capitalism. They hate Tony Stark because that’s what he stands for. They hate the Avengers because that’s what they represent--or what people in an impoverished country in eastern Europe think they represent

(My headcanon is that American businesses tried to build there and they’ve made it harder for the local economy)

At some point back in the 90s, there was a war in Sokovia and one of the sides happened to be using contraband Stark Industries weapons. That’s what happened. I think Wanda figures that out sooner or later that it wasn’t directly Tony’s fault. If she doesn’t know already.

Wanda and Pietro Maximoff volunteered for Strucker’s experiments so that they could fight for their country. They joined the Avengers for the same reason. After Pietro’s death, Wanda joins the Avengers partly because she doesn’t have anywhere else to go, but she also wants to continue to fight the good fight and make the world a better place

Ultron knew about the Winter Soldier and after he had destroyed the planet I’ll bet you he would have gone to look for Bucky’s remains and then chewed on the metal arm like a drumstuck

the deleted/extended version of the Water of Sight scene was kind of better. They should have at least kept in the shot of Thor drinking the Asgardian liquor to stiffen his courage

Did his buds bring him that?

The scene with Laura and Clint in the bedroom is so tender. Screw what anybody else says, I love that Clint has a family. I’ve admitted this before, but I initially wrote Clintasha into my fanfic, but it just didn’t feel right. Laura and the little Bartons are what I needed

(Because my Jedi OC who goes to the MCU is Clint’s adopted cousin)

Also, Auntie Nat. Clint and his family have adopted Natasha. I’m just in love with Clint taking in other orphan superheroes. ^_^

Nick Fury is basically the Avengers’ Dad and he knows it

Steve knows that the world he lives in now is different from the one he saved back in the 40s, and he knows that he’s a different person now. But that being said, his arc in this film is still heartbreaking to watch

Tony and Steve are both offended on a personal level that Vision can lift the hammer

When Wanda watches Vision coming out of the cradle, it isn’t “love at first sight”, it’s “okay the monster that Ultron created is out of the bag and it’s alive now, what’s it going to do?”

From my brother: Ultron should have known that Wanda Maximoff was going to “read” what was happening inside of the cradle

Also my brother: Ultron should have just flown off in the QuinJet

Ultron is just all kinds of unbalanced and he is scary

Overall, Age of Ultron isn’t as good quality as some previous MCU films but it still has a lot of epic action, it’s awesome and fun to watch

Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff:

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again, the only reason I haven’t accepted other people’s theories about how BruceNat was fake or tried to retcon it myself is because I have made bad relationship decisions, I’ve tried to rush into relationships with people I wasn’t compatible with or didn’t know well yet, it’s part of being human

It’s still the worst part of the movie

I didn’t take it personally, I just...ugh

It’s poorly written and it makes no sense for their characters even if they do have a certain kind of working relationship. Even if you don’t ship Natasha with anyone else it’s terrible

The Hulk responds to touch from another person and it relaxes him

The Hulk does have some kind of relationship with Black Widow: he responds to her and he tries to protect her

Bruce Banner is also pretty comfortable with Natasha

Natasha’s lines in this movie really aren’t that great

We did, however, get the Red Room Flashbacks and a lot of kick-butt Black Widow action

The fact that Natasha talks about the trial of being artifically sterilized while the actress playing her was pregnant is kind of disgusting. Really disgusting, actually. But on the other hand (I think partly because of ScarJo’s pregnancy) Natasha is kind of emotional in that scene. Her voice is choking. She empathizes with Bruce and she tries to tell him as much.

If there is anything redeeming about BruceNat, it is the thematic value

Natasha values her superhero work and she values the team

Everyone was kind of hoping that taking out Strucker in Sokovia would be the last thing the Avengers needed to do. So Natasha was banking on the fact that after they had stopped Ultron they wouldn’t be needed anymore. She was seriously contemplating running away with Bruce. If there was any possibility for her to step away from it all and have a normal life, she wanted it. She wanted some of that happiness in her life.

“I had this dream that I was more than the assassin that they made me into.” Why does no one talk about this line? That is her best line.

But poor Bruce just goes through the mill in this movie.

When he comes out of the witch-dream in Africa, is he seeing Banner’s worst fear or the Hulk’s worst fear? Both?

Bruce Banner may feel some guilt with how Ultron turned out.

And the Hulk had a good look at all the terrible destruction he caused.

Did anyone else notice the soldiers with the guns surrounding the Hulk before the Hulkbuster finally took him out?

Hulk just can’t deal anymore, okay?

And neither can Bruce. So no, now is not the time to elope.

I love the Maximoff twins, okay? Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen did a great job portraying them. And I’m biased because her name is Elizabeth and I’ve been cosplaying Scarlet Witch since months before AoU came out.

In spite of its flaws, I still like how Age of Ultron still has thematic depth. Themes include: Belonging, finding home and family, misunderstanding, being a “monster” versus being “human”. All themes that tie back to the greater MCU.

But yeah, it might as well be just a giant trailer for Civil War and Infinity War.

Age of Ultron and Thor: The Dark World aren’t the best MCU movies but Stan Lee has great cameos in both of them

The way I see it, after SHIELD fell (the world was less safe w/o SHIELD). Steve Rogers learned about Hydra having all these secret bases still in operation and Hydra people who had survived/escaped/not been found yet. That was important enough to him to reluctantly leave the search for Bucky (and hope that Sam Wilson would have some luck finding a person who didn’t want to be found). He called on the other Avengers to help him. Tony Stark decided that it would be a good idea to help out...well, more than a good idea, he knew he needed to help. He may have already had a new suit ready. Pepper had to have been at least semi-supportive at the outset. I don’t know what she heard about Ultron or Sokovia but it must not have been good.

Voltron Fluff Week Day 2:Sleepover Time

Prompt April 11th: Pillow Fights Read it on AO3 here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/10600650 So this isn't super focused on the pillow fight but oh well. @voltronprompts “Lance?” Lance turned to his teammate when he heard his name being called. Pidge was standing and clutching a pillow to her chest. She looked shy and unsure, a rare sight of the green paladin. When Lance directed his attention to her, Pidge continued speaking. “I know we just finished fighting a Galra battle but... I miss my brother and... I was hoping we could have a sleepover tonight?” “Yeah, sure thing Pidge.” Lance smiled. “As if I could ever seriously say no to you.” The joke made Pidge crack a smile and meet Lance's gaze. She and Lance were closer than any of the team members expected them to be. They even surprised themselves. Pidge found that Lance wasn't always so irritating and immature while Lance slowly discovered that Pidge was more than just sass and sarcasm. When they weren't bickering, they actually hung out with each other often. After a couple weeks of becoming actual friends, the two had decided that once a week, they would have sleepovers in the ballroom of the castle. Sometimes, they would spend the evening giving each other make-overs (using the make-up Allura had given them) and other times, they simply talked and gossiped. Pidge was lying on her stomach and clutching her pillow as she talked. Despite Lance swinging his legs around in the air, she kept talking, knowing he was listening, or at least, mostly listening. “Sometimes I think that Keith's frown is permanent, and then he smiles or laughs which just looks creepy at this point.” Lance laughed and agreed. “I find it hilarious. Almost as funny as when Shiro gets talking about teamwork, and realizes how lame he sounds. He looks terrified of being the uncool old guy.” “Exactly!” Lance shared a look with Pidge and was glad he could make her laugh. Sometimes she got so stressed that Lance would go into “big brother mode”. She is 14, and shouldn't be so upset, never mind fighting a war. “So...” He starts. “So what?” The light-hearted laughter is gone, but the serious change in tone doesn't ruin the sleepover. “You wanna talk about your brother? That is part of the reason we did this tonight.” Pidge sighs and takes a deep breath. “It's just...I miss my family. I'm really worried about my dad and brother. What if I never find them? What if something happens to them? What if something happened to me? My mother was destroyed when my family went missing.” Pidge was sniffling and trying not to let tears fall. Lance slide over next to her to give her a hug. “Hey, hey. It's gonna be fine Pidge. I promise. We already have clues to where they might be, and those clues told us they were ok. I know it's scary but things are gonna work out just fine. You'll see.” “Yeah.” Pidge nodded slightly, but her act wasn't fooling Lance. He backed up to sit directly in front of her and stare at her with his eyebrow raised. “What?” She asked. Lance rolled his eyes. “Come on. I know I'm not the smartest but I'm not an idiot. I can tell there is something you aren't telling me.” Lance relaxed his posture and leaned back on his arms. “I thought this is how we work, Pidge. I listen and comfort you when you talk about your family, and you tease and joke around with me when I talk about my crush on Keith.” Lance said as he laughed and blushed a bit towards the end of his sentence. Pidge giggled along with him and when she gained her composure, her mood switched back to being serious. “It's just, I-...I'm terrified of losing the team. I lost one brother, and I don't wanna lose you guys too. You and Hunk and even Keith. Shiro acts more like my dad sometimes but still! Even Coran and Allura are like family to me.” Lance sat up and hugged Pidge tightly. “Aw, little Pidgey.” He said in “baby-talk” and immediately ruined the moment. “You actually like us! The wittle angry bird child cares about us. So smol, so sweet.” Pidge laughed and lightly pushed him away. “I hate you.” “No you don't! You love me!” Lance said and poked the green paladin in the ribs, which he soon realized was a mistake. Pidge began chasing Lance through the castle threatening to hide all his moisturizers and shampoos. When they ran to the bridge, they rest of the team was shocked at the sight before them. Pidge was screaming at Lance (which wasn't too out of the ordinary) but they were both laughing as well. Hunk didn't have time to prepare before Lance jumped on him to hide. “What the hell is going on with you guys?” Keith asked. “Having a sleepover!” Lance replied, trying to hold on to Hunk's shoulders. “Oooh, a sleepover? Can we join?” Hunk's face lit up at the thought of doing something other than sitting around. “Yeah, sure. Come on guys. And don't think I've forgotten about this Lance.” Pidge shot him a fake glare while gesturing to say 'I'm watching you'. “I'll pass.” Keith turned around and started to walk to his room but was stopped when Pidge grabbed his wrist and dragged him along. “What are we even gonna do?” Keith complained, acting as if he was annoyed. “Something fun.” Lance said before taking one of the many pillows they had brought and smacking Keith in the face with it. He laughed before chucking the pillow to Pidge. “Your turn Pidgeotto.” It was Keith's turn to laughed when he got to see Pidge smacking Lance relentlessly. He decided that he was content to just watch the attack but Shiro and Hunk had other ideas and grabbed their own fluffy weapons to attack Keith with. In no time, the team was forming alliances in the pillow fight and ganging up on each other. Allura and Coran watched the chaos from the top of the grand staircase, amused by the odd activity the paladins were participating in. The rest of the night consisted of games of truth or dare (Lance shot daggers at Pidge and Hunk when they got too close to talking about Lance's crush), Telephone and Stella Ella Ola (which Hunk and Lance had to explain to Allura, Coran and Keith). Lance was the last person to get tired (he'd complain later that Keith kept waking him up with his snoring). He turned look at the smallest paladin. Pidge was curled up on the floor and a pillar, trying to sleep comfortably. Lance smiled softly and gently picked her up along with her pillow to bring her back to her room. He often did this when they had sleepovers and he was the last one awake. If Pidge didn't sleep well, she would be grumpy and irritable the next day. When Lance put Pidge down on the her bed, she started to stir and open her eyes. Her eyes were tired and she was struggling to keep them open. Lance took off her glasses and set them down. He turned to head back to the rest of the group but paused in the doorway. Pidge was nearly asleep again. “Night Sis. See you in the morning.”
