Hi! As someone with ADHD who's been in several abusive relationships before, I figured I'd add something about why it IS actually realistic that he doesn't appear hurt, but that's actually even more alarming. So it starts with meeting them (obviously) and especially if they don't really have any healthy romantic IRL relationships to compare it to (which the books go out of their way to emphasize that this is the case) then it can be really hard to notice when red flags like that start to come up. "Oh it'll get better!" "They're still adjusting to it!" All of which are valid! There's healthy relationships that start rough and there's relationships that start really well and then something happens that doesn't go super well and it turns bad real quick. I've been in a few of both. The problem comes when it still happens after they're asked to stop, which is what happens in Percy Jackson. This can lead to things like "Oh they're just kidding, surely they don't mean it!" "Oh that's just how they flirt/show they love me!" Which, again, is fine IF IT'S WELCOME. However if it's not then eventually it's "Oh they're just like that." "Oh it's fine I guess, it's not like I can stop it." Just because someone doesn't complain doesn't mean that they're consenting. It means they're resigned to the abuse. And that means that he's internalizing and normalizing it. "We don't hear any real negativity towards Annabeth in Percy's thoughts though!!!" Well no but we don't hear any love either. We don't ever hear any thoughts about her really ever. Nothing about how pretty she is or how cool she is or anything. Percy Jackson has thoughts about EVERYONE. As someone with ADHD, this level of no thoughts is concerning and no basis for a relationship. He deserves someone who will treat him well. She deserves someone who thinks about her fondly. Both of them deserve better but they both need to undergo some character development and serious therapy first.

While it’s stupid that people are arguing that AI art has no “soul”, it’s troubling that you made no mention at all of the concern many have about feeding AI with stolen art when you were clowning that ask. Just because that person was an idiot about that one part of the ask doesn’t mean they were an idiot about the other part.

firstable, the art isn't stolen. it is still on the artist's hard drive/website/portfolio. complaining about digital files being "stolen" makes you sound like the RIAA.

secondly, before you start arguing semantics about how "well obviously i didn't mean they were LITERALLY stolen, just used without permission," that's not even true either. the current legal theory they're operating on (until it gets challenged in court) is that the AI's output qualifies as a "transformative work", meaning it doesn't violate the original artist's copyright. your kneejerk reaction to this might be to expand copyright law to make this kind of use illegal, but that would also necessarily outlaw a LOT of art forms/techniques, like fanart, fanfiction, collaging, sampling, etc.

at a base level, these AIs aren't doing anything humans weren't already doing - human artists have been taking inspiration from other artists since the first cave painting. anyone telling you the AI is "just mashing together parts of existing art" or whatever has 1. no idea how AIs work because that aint it and 2. no idea how copyright works since "collaging parts of existing art" (which, again, is not what they're doing) is already explicitly protected as transformative work. we don't know enough about how humans OR AIs think to conclusively say that the way one makes art is quantitavely different than the other, and trying to make ethical or God forbid LEGAL judgements based on this imaginary, unmeasurable difference is a losing proposition from the start. there are reasons to be wary of AI art, but "the way an AI views my art and uses it to generate output is fundamentally different than how a human would do it, and that difference means that i am being wronged somehow" rings a bit hollow to me.

to be clear, there are definitely valid reasons to be wary of/dislike AI art. the main one that inevitably comes up is the impact it will create with artists who work on commissions. why would someone pay $50 and wait a week to get a picture of their fursona/concept art for their video game world when they could just punch a few sentences into an AI and have dozens of pics for cheap basically instantly? setting aside the obvious answer of "because most AIs actually suck at drawing really specific things", i feel like this is akin to complaining that the invention of the camera/daguerreotype put professional portrait painters almost entirely out of business. yeah, it did, and that sucked for them, but nobody would ever suggest boycotting the camera for those painters' benefit because that's the nature of technological advancement baybee!

also not to be a communist on main but i NEED to point out the possibly insultingly obvious fact that this is an issue with capitalism, not the "integrity of art" or whatever. the main negative impact the technology has on artists is potential loss of income due to competition, which would stop being an issue if your ability to stay alive was decoupled from your ability to work/sell your labor.

Pairing: Rafe Cameron x reader

Warnings: season 2 spoilers, angst, mentions of death of course, mentions of alcohol

Summary: Rafe has changed since the hunt for gold started and you’ve had enough. But then tragedy strikes and you feel like things are finally getting better, then something unexpected happens and you have to make a choice

A/N: made some tiny adjustments to this and wanted to repost it, i was listening to phoebe bridgers ‘the gold’ when I wrote this the first time which heavily inspired it

You knew your relationship with Rafe had come to a standstill when you began to feel like he was a ceiling waiting to collapse on you at any moment. You spent 4 years with each other and it all came crashing down in one month, it's funny how things work out sometimes. All the love you once felt for him was replaced by estranged thoughts and tears over what once was. You knew it wasn't all his fault, his father had a stronghold on him and he was desperate for his love and validation, but it still hurt you in the end.

“I love you and I miss you Rafe.” there was a tense silence before he spoke up.

“Yeah, love you. Look I've gotta go cause dad needs me. I'll see you soon.” it was all lies, his voice held the same distance it’s had for the last month.

“Okay.” this is how your phone calls had been for weeks now, it hurt more now to pretend the two of you were fine than not speaking at all but neither one of you wanted to admit to the other it was over, neither of you ready to admit it.

When news broke of Ward's death, you ran to the Cameron residence to see how Rafe was doing. He looked horrible, he had been crying and reeked of whiskey. He broke down in your arms and he didn't know if it was from losing his father or from feeling your comforting touch after so long. He hadn’t meant to neglect you or the relationship, but he was so worried about his father going back to hating him or thinking he was a disappointment again that it was all he could think about.

“I'm so sorry Rafe,” you told him while trying to hold yourself together. Ward wasn't a very good man, but you knew how much he meant to Rafe and it was still his dad at the end of the day. He still loved and grieved him.

“He's gone Y/N, he's really gone. I'm all alone again, i’ve got nobody.” the last part hurt you but you tried to ignore it, he gripped onto you harder than before as he began to sob.

“I'm right here Rafe, you’ve got me still. It’s going to be okay” you whispered, stroking his head trying to reassure him, but you were only met with silence. The only thing you could do was be there for him hold onto like a lifeline.

That was a few weeks ago and things seemed to be getting back to how they once were between you and Rafe, if not better than before. He’d been talking you out on more dates, trying to get clean, stepping up to take over the business. It felt like you truly had your Rafe back and you couldn’t be happier…that was until he had come to you saying Ward was actually alive and that he and his family had to leave in a few days but you weren't allowed to come with them. It was like a knife had stabbed you in your chest and that's when you knew, no matter what happened or how much you were there for him, how much you gave him your everything, how much you loved him, it would always be his dad that he chose. This wild hunt for gold and dire need for validation had changed him completely and his kisses didn't taste like the mint gum and whiskey you were once so addicted to, they tasted like poison.

“Rafe we need to talk.” you said solemnly, ushering towards the couch for him to sit.

“Sure what's wrong? Are you okay?” concern suddenly lacing his voice when he saw your face laced with sadness and defeat.

There was a tense silence for a moment, you took a deep breath before spitting out the one thing you were both terrified to admit, “I don't think I love you anymore.” there it was, the words you both knew were coming but too scared to say out loud finally out in the open. Maybe that's why it didn't come as a shock to either of you when you said it.

“What? Don't be crazy Y/N, of course you do.” he was just trying to fool himself, it wasn’t a surprise to him, he just didn’t want to lose his safety line. But he knew that wasn't true anymore. He had pushed you to the side and stopped caring about the relationship and you.

“No Rafe, I don't, and you don't love me anymore either so please, can we stop playing this game? It hurts too much to keep pretending and I don't want to do it anymore, I can't do it anymore.” tears streaming down your face as your voice broke. You needed him to let you go so you could being healing.

Rafe hated to see you cry, especially when he was the reason for your tears, but it was the truth. Pretending to still love each other and act like your relationship was fine was taking its toll on you and he knew it. He wanted to be selfish and keep you around as a safety blanket when things got worse after his dad but knew it had to end before he left.

“I still love you, I've always loved you. That was always real.” was the only thing he could say that was really genuine.

“I think that you believe you loved me but I don't think you really did. You don't do the things that you did to people you love. I think you've gone crazy searching for this stupid gold and I can't keep pretending otherwise. This good changed you, you’re not my Rafe anymore, you're a stranger to me. You don't have to hold me anymore Rafe so please, just let me go.” you pleaded, your voice desperate and distant. You hated to be so cold towards him but it was the only way this conversation would end the way it needed to.

“You're right. I'm sorry, I've got to go and prepare everything to leave. I did love you in the beginning though, regardless of whether you believe me or not. I'll see you around Y/N/N.” he said, tears forming in his eyes as he spoke to you for the last time without looking at you before walking out the front door for the final time.

That was the final straw for you, you burst into tears from both relief and heartbreak. The relief of being free from him and not having to pretend that the two of you were in love anymore and the heartbreak of losing what you thought was your forever person to that stupid fucking gold. It was finally over now and the only thing left to do was heal from the damage he caused and try to find happiness again.

This chapter really did nail it in just how Denji and Asa interact with the parasocial relationship aspects of the Chainsaw Man and the Church.

"Everybody wants my chainsaw heart, nobody wants Denji's heart", I think is one of the most heartbreaking things in the entire story because Denji has no reason to believe otherwise. A big reason why he wants to be Chainsaw Man is because he wants to use him to impress people, to make them look his way and give him praise and attention because as far as he is concerned it's the only way people can love him. Makima only cared about him beause of Chainsaw Man, he only met Reze because she was after his chainsaw heart, and even his brief interaction with Fumiko left off with her only being interested in him as Chainsaw Man. Only four people ever loved Denji for being Denji, and three of them, Pochita, Aki and Power, are dead, and the last one, Nayuta, I don't think can give Denji what he needs, because while I don't doubt the affection they have for one another, their relationship is not equal, he is her caretaker and it is his responsibility to see her safe. Denji needs a friend or partner on equal terms, someone who can love and appreciate him without treating him like some add on to Chainsaw Man. Sadly, Chainsaw Man is all he has, and to make matters worst people keep trying to take that away from him. Between Public Safety and the Church, Denji is constantly put into corners where he cannot be allowed to be the one thing that he feels gives his life any value to anyone else. If there's no Chainsaw Man, then what is left for people to love if only Denji remains? Nothing as far as he's concerned.

For Denji, parasocial relationships is a way to validte that only one part of him is worthy of love and affection.

Then there's Asa.

Asa wants nothing more than to connect with other people, to form deep relationships with them, but she' afraid of them because getting close to other people means you can be hurt by them, and unfortunately her beliefs are justified by her experiences. She trusted the orphanage lady to give Crambon a good home, and she killed him. She trusted Yuko to be her friend, but she turned into a school shooter. She trusted her heart to Denji, and even though it wasn't his fault, she was left feeling abandoned. Even her brief meeting with Yoshida and finding a commonality left her devastated, which is why she's so taken in by this parasocial relationship. She can do amazing things and people will call her cool and beautiful, but she doesn't actually have to get close to any of them, she can feel loved and praised without putting herself at risk of being hurt because these interactions are shallow and superficial. The downside however is that all these people only care about the beautiful up and coming devil hunter, but how many of these people would want to know the girl who spends a night looking up fish facts to impress her date at the aquarium, and how many less would actually listen to what she actually had to say about those facts?

For Asa, parasocial relationships are a way to avoid getting hurt because it is the safest way to interact with people.

Denji and Asa rely on these kinds of relationships because the negative experiences in they've lived through have done nothing but justify and validate their harmful world views. For Denji it is that no one can love him outside Chainsaw Man, and for Asa it's anyone who grows close to her can only hurt her.

Here's a spicy opinion for you, sort of related to that previous reblog:

That thing where something is super popular and then eventually becomes cringe and the Most Hated thing and everyone is deeply morally opposed to it for [reasons]? That is actually where I think most people's problem with Hetalia stems from, rather than from an actual good faith objection to any of the content within the canon.

I've talked a little bit before about how a lot of the objections I see to Hetalia and its fandom are kind of weirdly nonspecific or really outdated or just factually incorrect in a way that suggests that the critic's only real familiarity with it is from their memories of other people's complaints, but I was thinking a little bit about the heyday of the fandom and what the atmosphere was like at that time and how that relates --

It's easy to forget (or to not have been old enough to be present within fandom spaces then, as the case may be), but Hetalia was wildly fucking popular in its time, rivaled in many places at that specific time only by Homestuck... And people in general hated Homestuck to just about the same degree they hated Hetalia, and in fact did so to the point that the fandoms went from "rivals" to building a weird little bond of solidarity over being The Worst.

I'm not saying there aren't or weren't valid reasons to dislike Homestuck canon or the fandom, but what I am saying is that I'm incredibly fucking skeptical of the idea that the general backlash against Hetalia comes or came from a sincerely held belief that it is an irredeemable pile of nazi fujoshit, when I saw a very similar level of venom for people who wore gray body paint at cons at about the same time.

I know I just said a few days ago I hated that people feel the need to constantly qualify their comments to preempt arguments but I'm gonna do it now anyway: This is not to say that I don't think there are valid objections to be raised about Hetalia canon or the fandom and that people can't take real issue with it. I absolutely do, and if you'd like to know more I invite you to come chat with some of us here, because nobody tears up the shit parts of a canon and fandom like people who are really really into it. (So f you come in here to tell me all the totally reasonable reasons you hate it i will bite you because I already fucking said.)

But I am saying that I think a certain amount of people who have to loudly tell everyone how gross they think it is every time it comes up (or who do so totally unprompted) are not doing it out of a real deep sense of moral concern but either out of a need to justify their cringe reaction to it and to be seen doing so, or because they've seen other people doing it and also want to be seen doing so so that people know they don't enjoy the Bad thing and feel an appropriate level of scorn for those who do.

hey i noticed an anon mentioned submitting a lot of arcana characters and i wanted to pop in to say that that game is a racist, fetishizing mess. not only do they have a brown character who is kept literally in chains and is a vessel for one of the writers’ thinly veiled bucky barnes slavery kink, one of the bad endings features their fantasy-jewish-coded character turning into a literal bird, not to mention his numerous bird motifs.

between asra, nadia, and julian, asra and nadia are clearly more sexualized throughout the course of the game, even when fans have asked them to tone it down and stop fetishizing their “exotic” brown characters.

the fandom is and has been historically overwhelmingly hostile to fans/people of color who try to mention these problems. fans of color trying to dissuade people from writing nadia as a step on me dommy mommy queen have been shut down by elle trying to spin it into a “women can be dommes too!” issue, when the problem is that nobody would be treating nadia like this if she was white. asra gets his paid scenes hijacked by the white LI and then is painted as the toxic one in his and julian’s relationship (of which is only there due to elle’s mlm abuse fetishization) because god forbid their favorite white boy isn’t a perpetual victim.

outside of the game itself, dana rune has run a fanzine about an incestuous fire emblem fates ship (corrin/ryoma/xander) and further information can be found at the relations_zine handle on twitter. she may have scrubbed her name from it but it’s clearly her art style lmfao, and iirc she’s still in the followers/following list on that account. elle has a long history of fetishizing mlm abuse/slavery/“yaoi” on their tumblr that they’ve since deleted, but like. i googled “elle thalassiq fetishizing mlm” and immediately found posts with thorough screenshots so it existed lmfao. and even if it didn’t, it’s very evident with how they treat asra/julian/muriel.

this is heated and not thorough, but i’d like to end this by saying that this is coming from a former fan who eventually had to leave the game and fandom altogether because of the compounded issues that were never addressed, brushed under the rug, or actively encouraged time and time again. do not play the arcana. there are better games out there. and the last i was in it, the fandom was a toxic cesspool that would attack anyone, especially fans of color, who ever voiced a dissenting opinion about anything in the game. i hold my queer media to better standards and you should too. this game does not treat dark, heavy topics with respect, it treats them as fetish fodder.

Okay, I figured something like this would hit this blog eventually. The point of this blog is not for me take a stance and say what media is good and what media is bad. I am not brushing off your concerns - that’s a whole lot of awful information, and from me posting your ask, people can make their own choice about wether they want to engage with the game or the fandom. But I am just one person, and I don’t know anything about 90% of the media that is submitted here. If I excluded every piece of media that someone said was below a standard, I wouldn’t have any media left. This blog is simply a recognition game, I’m not trying to promote these pieces of media. I’m not saying that because they have queer characters that they’re fantastic or anything like that. I’m not taking any stance on any of it, actually.

This isn’t about the quality of a media, the quality of a fandom, or the quality of the representation that a character represents. It’s just a recognition game.

I am not going to get into any of these debates myself, since I know almost nothing about most fandoms here, but if you have serious concerns with a particular media posted here, send in an ask like this detailing the problems and I will post it, so that people looking at this blog can see valid criticisms before diving into a new piece of media.

But as soon as you'd opened your big mouth to Tenya, he personally saw to it that you were escorted straight to recovery girl to get a professional opinion.

On the way to her office you were given a stern earful from your concerned, worrywart friend, and you weren't given even the slightest chance to claw your way out of an impromptu doctors appointment.

You had never expected this outcome, though.

Apparently, the headaches and pain was a sign of sensitivity to light, which is experienced more commonly by people with more reactive pupils, like yourself. The solution?

Glasses.

In all honestly, you never really thought of people with glasses as any different, but as soon as you put them on yourself, the change was not handled well. They look hideous on you, all big and bulky and irritating to wear.

The first time Tenya caught you not wearing them was the very next day. Cue another earful.

"This continuous irresponsibility is highly unbecoming of one of Japan's future top heroes! What is so difficult about wearing a simple pair of spectacles?! I really should know!"

He chops his hands and furrows his eyebrows at you as he gives you another lecture, and you know it's only coming from a place of valid concern for you, but you just don't like it when he points out how stubborn you're being.

"I look like a dweeb! Come on- nobody's gonna take me seriously when I look like this! They don't suit me at all, they're hideous! I'd prefer the pain, thank you very much-!"

"Oh! So you think I look like a "dweeb"?!"

This was supposed to be his 'got ya' moment, but you had other plans.

"No, ya' just act like one."

"What was that?!"

"Nothing!"

He offers only a simple sigh in response, placing a hand on your back lightly to attempt comforting you.

"I, for one, thought they looked rather lovely on you... But nobody is focusing on what you look like. -With the exception of maybe Mineta but it's not your face he's looking at- Anyway, I think you look just fine. They actually rather suit you... You look cute. Just do me this favour, please? Avoiding this problem is not healthy."

You've loved him even more ever since he's started to adopt a slightly more crude sense of humour, but aside from that, he's just so good at making you feel better. Now, you actually feel a lot better. Pretty good, actually.

He's not surprised when you offer a small sigh back as you rest your head gently on his shoulder, just to find a place to be more comfortable while you pout and be all miserable for the next few minutes.

gang sails off into the distance! and by “distance” I mean they’re high-tailing it into the Assassin servers in order to regroup and recuperate and figure out what the fuck to do now since. well. hey, they retrieved Desmond and they’ve kept him safe! uh. now what. if there were other Assassins’ memories in Abstergo, how long until they gain sentience as well? and how the fuck did Desmond and Jacob find a movie projector on the ship?

Desmond is still kind of reeling from everything that’s just happened, and to his surprise, despite the whole awkwardness surrounding Uh Fuckin Everything, the Kenways are willing to take him in, altho Edward somewhat morbidly jokes that their dysfunctional family being an improvement over his is really kind of sad when he thinks about it. then he offers to let him take a turn at the wheel—he needs to go see what they’ve done to the captain’s cabin anyway, he wasn’t able to since the collision and it’s probably messed with a few things.

they do need a base to operate out of for the time being. Davenport Manor is suggested, then somewhat reluctantly shot down bc of the two Templars around who are immediately like yeah uh No. Café Theatre is too cramped, although in a pinch it could do. the Frye twins’ train has little to offer in the way of bedrooms. Monteriggioni is considered and makes it into a top five list, only losing bc an entire town is a little too big and prone to glitches. (Desmond is a little peeved about it.) eventually everyone settles on finding a version of Great Inagua in the Assassin servers and regrouping there so they can figure out their next move. and maybe Edward is a little bit smug over it.

I do like the idea of Desmond teaching the gang how to really break shit in Abstergo, like—Juno is still in there, and there’s a possibility there might be more sentient data representations of dead Assassins (and dead Templars) rolling around now in the servers. Ezio shudders to think of Juno at the same time that Shay does, and they’re both concerned about the idea of Juno being able to simply possess somebody, and if she’s able to do that in the digital realm, there’s the lingering possibility of her being able to do that to an actual flesh and blood person. which nobody wants! so that’s on their priority list. and also all the other possibly-sentient people who might be running around the servers.

Arno and the twins and Henry listen to all of this, then sit in contemplation. then all three of them are like. oh shit we have to check on our simulations bc Lydia and Elise might also be gaining sentience and god KNOWS what they’re doing right now without us. who wants to come with, we’ve got spare clothes for you. (aka: how to justify the legacy outfits lol.)

The “Too Long Post” which was about the playable characters in Abstergo’s games gaining sentience for easy reference. (And considering we ended it after they got away, we can count that as Arc 1 XD)

Honestly, I think the only valid locations for their homebase would be the Great Inagua or Davenport Homestead because they also need to park their ship (depending on who you ask, it’s either called ‘Aquila’ or ‘Jackdaw’) and the Seine river would be hard to navigate while the Thames is chock-full of other ships and boats and the moving train means they can’t always get to the ship quickly. Also, they all try to fit in the mansion that Edward had ‘commandeered’ but it becomes clear that there is a division. Altaïr, Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton took the rooms nearest to Desmond. Haytham took the room furthest away from everyone and Shay took the room to his left. Shao Jun took the empty room nearest to Ezio while Aveline took the empty room nearest to Ratonhnhaké:ton. Jacob’s the only one who went ‘whichever room is free’ and Arno took the room furthest away from Shay which sorta put him between Jacob and an empty room that Evie took for herself. Jacob joked of Jayadeep just sharing a room with Evie so he took the room on the other side of Jacob instead, making Jacob roll his eyes. Edward just took his old room (which was the largest room). So… they might be in this together but they’re definitely not exactly the bestest of allies at the moment.  

Desmond taught them what he knew, things he didn’t know when he was alive but he just… knew once he ‘woke up’. He doesn’t even know if these skills came from his memory of Clay or from his memory of Dionysus (holy shit, his Isu ancestor was the god of wine and debauchery? What the fuck???) but he wasn’t going to reject such a boon. He’s quiet about his life though, only sharing a bit if anyone asked about what they saw. 

And the only one who asked was a worried Shao Jun because Shay was keeping his distance and the others either didn’t have such a bad memory to watch (Aveline, Evie and Jayadeep) or didn’t even see any memory (Jacob and Arno).

The ones connected to Desmond though… Desmond told them everything. Even Edward who was just in the room with the three people who had the biggest urge to find Desmond and Haytham who Edward believes had been affected just as much by the time they started to piece Desmond back together. Edward provided the alcohol back then (although Altaïr did not partake) and they finished more than five bottles of Edward’s hardest liquor. He was especially worried for Haytham who grabbed an entire unopened bottle and just started topping his glass with it and ended up finishing it and still requesting his glass to be filled afterward.  

Are we talking about the Juno in Desmond’s dataspace or the real Juno in digital space? Because if it’s the real Juno and this is set after Syndicate BUT before the comics where she died, then Juno is out in the real world (which would give us an excuse to have our sentient Assassins travel into other corners of the internet XD).

However, I do like the idea that they’ve unintentionally created Juno 2.0 from Desmond’s memory of her (and also a bit of Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton’s memories). This also gives Ratonhnhaké:ton a reason to want to take her down since she… technically didn’t lie but she absolutely used Ratonhnhaké:ton and gave him the short stick in that deal. (With her past misgivings to Ratonhnhaké:ton, Edward would be on board and maybe even Haytham once he learned how everything had been set into stones because of the path the Isus have chosen the world to walk to, including how the Kenway family ended).

You know what would be fun? If they made the grievous assumption that the data are gaining sentient while they were gone BUT the real reason why they’re slowly gaining sentient is because all sentient data (them) are still connected to the virus that started this all. Now, the virus was fast-acting in Abstergo because it was meant to fuck shit up there but the virus also have a failsafe that makes it dormant when it knows it’s no longer in Abstergo’s servers. But… the virus itself might be dormant but constant exposure to it will still affect data. 

… wanna make Arno have a bad time once more? Élise is slowly waking up and she starts remembering…

The many times Arno repeated her death, together with the pain and rage that consumed her during those days, not knowing Arno repeated that memory over and over again to try and save her.

You gotta wonder… if Élise would even be happy to see Arno once more when her most lived memory was her death.

(Also… Lydia would be fine being sentient since she loves her grandaunt and granddad who raised her but… remember… Jack the Ripper is also in the servers).

Chapter Three

Laurie laid in her bed, staring at the ceiling as her mind raced. She knew how risky it would be to run away like this. She knew what happened to the people who were disloyal to Jesse and his gang. But she didn’t care. She had to at least try to leave. The side of her face from when Jesse had struck her still hurt, and the young girl knew it was most likely bruised as well. The moon shone brightly through her opened window, a gentle breeze blew the curtains ever so slightly as Laurie sat up. If she left now, maybe she could find Billy and catch up with him, leave for Chihuahua with him and start a new life there. Away from her current life.

Laurie turned to her window, hesitating for a moment before she hopped out of her bed and quickly packed her bags. Not like she had a lot of stuff she could take anyways, just a compass, her sketchbook, a pair of extra clothes and a stuffed goose that she couldn’t sleep without. Once she had done all of that she snuck out of her room, quietly opening the creaking door and creeping down the stairs slowly. She needed some food and a gun. She knew that Jesse stored an extra pistol in the pantry, and she took full advantage of that. Opening the pantry and stuffing her bag with whatever she deemed necessary as well as snagging the pistol hidden in an empty cookie jar. 

When Laurie was sure she had everything that she needed she quickly left through the front door and booked it to the barn where Artax would be. She ran into the barn, an owl hooting in the distance as a few of the ranch horses stuck their heads over their stall doors, nickering in dismay as they watched the runt girl take their buddy out of his stall and saddle him up before galloping away. 

Laurie didn’t know how long she and Artax had been riding before they came to a stop, noticing a camp in the distance. A single man camp. Laurie coaxed Artax into a slow trot so that she could get a closer look, her hopes rising about the fact that this could be Billy. The only adult in her life that didn’t treat her like she was lower than the dirt they walked upon. Artax stood on a twig, causing it to snap and the man who was sitting by the small fire to turn around with his gun drawn and ready to fire. Laurie panicked and pulled Artax to a stop, trying to show she wasn’t a threat. It was dark, the only light came from the moon and the small campfire. It took Laurie a moment to realize that this man was actually Billy.

And it took Billy another moment to realize that this scrawny figure on a 16.0hh horse was actually Laurie. He breathed and holstered his weapon, causing Laurie to relax as she dismounted her steed and led him over to the camp. 

“You’re lucky I didn’t shoot your ass,” Billy sighed as he sat down, watching as the teenager loosely tied her horse next to the mare he was borrowing from Jesse. 

“I know,” Laurie said softly, patting Artax’s neck before she sat down next to him, staring into the flames. “I decided to take up on your offer of going to Chihuahua. Maybe I’ll be able to find my Ma there.” Billy noticed the nasty bruise on her face and his face creased with concern as his mind raced. Did someone seriously hit her?

“What happened?,” Billy asked, studying the young girl’s bruise. “Someone hit ya?”

Laurie froze for a moment. No way in fucking hell would she tell Billy what had actually happened, her thoughts raced, trying to come up with a valid excuse as to way her face is bruised. An excuse that didn’t involve being physically abused. 

“I was galloping Artax and a tree branch was lower than I expected, socked me in the face,” Laurie lied, not meeting the older man’s gaze as the fire crackled in front of them. 

Billy didn’t buy it, and he really wanted to know who had hurt this kid so that he could put a bullet in their skull, because nobody should be putting their hands on a child. But he could also tell Laurie really didn’t want to talk about it, so he dropped the subject. Instead, he went back to reading The Iliad. Laurie looked up, noticing the book and she looked over at the words on the paper.

It wasn’t like she could understand what was being said on the papers since she couldn’t read. She had never learned how to, her parents were always working and they could never afford to send her to school, and as said previously there was no time to teach her themselves so Laurie was pretty much left high and dry when it came to education. Billy noticed the staring and he tilted his head.

“I’m not really sure if I enjoy you readin’ over my shoulder like that, kid,” he said with a slight chuckle, subconsciously leaning away a little bit.

“It’s not like I can understand what’s being said anyways,” Laurie replied, pulling back a bit as she shifted, bringing her knees to her chest. She was always sitting like that since it was most comfortable for her.

“What’d you mean?,” Billy asked, closing his book once more as he stared at the little red head next to him.

“I can’t read,” Laurie admitted, looking away. Not knowing how to read had always been one of Laurie’s biggest insecurities. Not being able to enjoy books like other people could, and she really wanted to learn, but Jesse never bothered to teach her how to read either.

Billy’s small, confused smile fell at the revelation. “You can’t read?”

Laurie shook her head, inhaling as she finally turned her gaze back to him, laughing humorlessly as she shook her head. “I know. What kind of 13-year-old girl doesn’t know how to read?” She exhaled, looking down again as she pulled grass out from the ground, ripping it up. “It’s so pathetic, honestly.” 

Billy thought for a moment, he was perplexed. He could tell how much of a sore spot this was for the kid next to him. “It’s not pathetic, kid.” He set his book to the side so that he could give her his full attention. “How about this, I’ll teach you how to read once we get to Chihuahua.”

Laurie’s head pricked up, her eyes brightening for a moment as a smile crossed her face. She wasn’t sure if he was being serious or not. “You’re serious?” Her voice shook slightly as if she was about to start bawling her eyes out.

Billy chuckled at the reaction, nodding. “Yes, I’m serious, kid.” 

Laurie smiled, her eyes were glossy as she sniffled, blinking away her tears as she stared at the man next to her. Still in pure disbelief that he would be willing to attempt to teach her how to read. 

Maybe this was what she needed to be normal, maybe this was the rulebook to be able to fit into society and be a normal teenage girl.

Billy also smiled, watching as the young girl processed this information. Something about this kid reminded him of Joe. Maybe it was her smile, maybe it was the fact she was small and scrawny for her age, maybe it was her eagerness to learn. Maybe it was all of it.

But whatever the reason was didn’t matter.

All Billy knew was that he had to protect this girl.

You everr realize that Vivziepop is completely bullshitting when it comes to ethnic casting because of Millie?

Like we are definitely getting imp human disguises for merch reasons so its definitely going to come up.

But like if Millie is black then her family should be played by black VAs but all of them are white VAs. Like I don't think Millie is adopted since she looks like a younger version of her mother.

The best course would then be making Millie white and no we can't use Erica being the original VA as evidence because that was always meant to be a temp casting.

But then this creates an issue in Helluva Boss having no fucking diversity like Vivziepop doesn't have to answer to corporate demands to make the ENTIRE CAST white. She can choose to add diversity.

If she makes Millie black that's also showcasing a huge issue in Helluva's lack of diversity in its main group of characters and Millie could come off as a token. Then you have the fact Morgana and Ed would come under fire for taking POC roles as well as Spindle allowing it unless Vivziepop retcons Millie as adopted or half siblings with Sallie.

Like Into The Spiderverse had half its human cast be POC and it answered to corporate demands. Then Across The Spiderverse without spoiling anything has a MAJORITY of the cast be POC.

Now you can argue Spiderverse is based off existing material unlike Helluva but those existing materials had put effort into adding POC in the first place. And guess what Spiderverse had consulted actual minorities when it came to development of the project.

Vivziepop is latina but she's white passing so she needs to consult people who don't pass to get a better understanding overall on things. Like I'm disconnected from my own culture but just because I'm part of it doesn't mean I have a full picture of it.

Vivziepop also isn't black, asian or indigenous so if she's telling stories that features them she needs to do research and consult people.

She actually consulted Morgana about Sallie May being trans thankfully but... I never hear any talk about other people she talks to which shows poor ass attempts. Like Morgana's insight is valid but she does not speak for all trans people and yes you aren't going to please everybody with representation but just consulting a SINGLE PERSON is insane. We also know Viv according to leaked screenshots has or had some form of transphobia so she absolutely needs to consult more people if she's trying to change and do better especially if she's writing about a trans character.

Like Morgana being a white transwoman will not have the same experience as a black transwoman for example. Like I know that from actively trying to learn about trans people.

Like there's a youtuber UnicornofWar who made a video about how the show RWBY is terrible at handling its racism allegory. Now Unicorn is white but actively went out of their way to consult multiple POC for the video and did a shit ton of research. Now I will say Unicorn in the past has said ignorant things about stuff like white washing (thinking its ok because of art style color pallets back then) in earlier videos but currently denounces that viewpoint (note: Unicorn as far as Im aware has never said anything with vile. I have to clarify so I don't misrepresent their person and people don't assume Unicorn like said a slur) and actually apologizes for their ignorance.

Has Vivziepop ever denounced her old views or behavior? Has she apologized for being ignorant in certain things? Is making a serious effort to change? Has Vivziepop researched throughly and listened to POC insights or concerns?

As far as I'm aware she hasn't.

I have noticed Viv's weird choices for Millie as a black character. I hate to say this but Millie is supposed to be token rep which to me is weird because nobody was pressuring Viv to add rep to her shows. I will say this even in a universe where Viv hired black VAs to voice Millie's family and did do properly research and consulted black people, Millie would still be considered token rep because she is the only the only main character in the show to not have an self-centered EP and has the least amount of screentime.

It makes me wonder if the reason why the IMPs don't have a canon human form yet is because Viv doesn't want to draw POC characters. She has shown she knows the importance of these disguises and they sell well on merch but the only characters who have canon human forms are Stolas and Loona, two white characters who arguably don't even need them. Blitzo is voiced by Brandon Roger who is a mixed Filipino (It's also canon Blitzo looks like Brandon Roger and Blitzo and Brandon Roger are intertwined together so it doesn't make sense for Blitzo to be white), Millie being a black woman, and Moxxie, despite what you might believe is a mixed Latino.

The POC rep we already have isn't good either. In Spring Broken, Verosika and her gang, who the majority are POCs, gets arrested and Verosika makes a joke about sucking police dicks to get out of jail. Having a POC character make a rape joke about police corruption unironically is not funny. Moxxie's mom is obviously supposed to be Latina, falls into the trope of nice POC women who get brutally abused and killed by their white husbands. This actually could have work and wouldn't be as tokenizing if 1. we got to learn about Moxxie's mom as a person and 2. her death wasn't solely use to be angst bait for a male character.

The Spiderverse crew actively puts effort and consulted with POC about characters from their culture. During the early stage of writing for Pavitr Prabhakar, the writing team struggled writing his character and called his VA, Karan Soni to help them write and consult on the character. Thanks to Karan Soni's contribution for Pavitr Prabhakar, he is beloved by desi people alike. Viv doesn't do that and probably will never. She has shown time and time again, she doesn't respect religions, using their symbols as an aesthetic and for monetary gain. Viv's designs for black and other POC characters are terrible, them alway never having POC features and looking racial ambiguous as hell and she ignored the criticism from black and POC people for these POC characters.

Do you believe Kathy Tatum’s story?

thank you so much for the question because I’ve been needing an excuse to delve into this as I’ve always wondered about the validity of her story 👀

**as always this is long but I found some strong and damning evidence 🤧!!

For context: Kathy Tatum is a Memphis native who claims to have met Elvis, who was 34 at the time, outside the gates of Graceland on July 2, 1969, when she was 16 years old. According to her, they began casually dating from that first initial meeting and continued to do so up until 1972-ish

In 2015 she published her book, “Love beads from Elvis”, which is mainly compromised of entries from the diary she kept during her time with Elvis as well as commentary from her perspective now. Recently, she was also featured in the Amazon documentary “Elvis’ women” where she shared more about her experience

Anyone who has kept a diary knows just how repetitive the entries can get. Every entry/chapter of her book is essentially "woke up, went to school, met with Elvis, went to the Memphian, made out, mom made us come home, went to bed". So it’s definitely not the most exciting read but I will say it’s very immersive, and I definitely felt like I was in her shoes so to speak

As for the validity…

short answer: either kathy is completely lying or she is just terrible with dates

my vote is with completely lying

long answer: The three best methods, in my opinion, for determining whether a book or story concerning Elvis is true or not are...

1. Check to see if anyone else in Elvis' life, particularly his inner circle, has confirmed or refuted the claim

2. Check to see if Elvis' described behavior matches with how we know he acted based on credible sources

3. Finally, and most importantly, check to determine if the dates match and if Elvis was indeed where the person claimed he was

This 3rd method is definitely the most reliable, as many falsified stories about Elvis tend to get the dates wrong. For example claiming he was in Vegas while, in fact, he was in Memphis

From what I have researched, Kathy fails 2 of the above mentioned methods

Method number one: Kathy fails. Nobody who knew Elvis has even acknowledged Kathy Tatum, let alone denied her story. Essentially, Kathy does not exist in the “Elvis Universe” according to his closest friends/girlfriends/family members

And most damning for Kathy, not even Charlie Hodge, who is talked about nearly as often as Elvis in her book and who also allegedly dated her sister, has spoken about her

So, once again, I find it difficult to believe that Kathy, who claims to have frequented the Memphian with Elvis and Charlie, and occasionally the entire group, has never been mentioned by anyone else

In one entry in Kathy's book, she states that as she got up from her seat in the theater to go to the concession stand, Elvis got up and followed her, and began kissing her in front of the counter worker and a few members of the group…yet no one in his circle has ever talked about the 16-year-old blonde that Elvis would very publicly make out with? And would sit with and kiss inside the theater?

As for method number 2, I would say this is one that Kathy actually passes 🤧

To give an example of how this method can help determine the validity of a story, we can talk about Byron Raphael and his egregious claims

One claim being that Elvis personally asked Byron to have girls give “practice” bl*wjobs (on Byron) so that Byron could evaluate whether she was skilled enough before she went to see Elvis. Another claim made by Byron is that Elvis liked to keep his bedroom door open while having s*x with the girl he was with so that everybody in the hotel could see and hear…

You don’t even have to do much research about Elvis to know that it’s completely uncharacteristic of him, as Elvis was insanely protective of his dates and would get easily jealous. I mean Jerry nearly got fired for just having a casual conversation with Priscilla 😭

And, according to Sonny and Red West, when parties were thrown at the Perugia Way house in Los Angeles and people were skinny dipping and such, Elvis would not allow hisself or his girl for the night to participate ⬇️

so basically… Byron is full of shit (yet Alanna Nash used him as a source, multiple times, which says everything about her credibility 💀)

Now, the reason I feel that Kathy passes this specific method is that their relationship never went beyond kissing/fondling, which, as we all know, was typical of Elvis in some of his relationships. Another is that the food she depicts him eating is consistent with what we know he liked (hamburgers and more hamburgers, basically), and I believe she accurately describes Elvis and his slightly odd sense of humor as well. But still it’s not enough to prove validity as all of this would be easy to research and perhaps the author did, and that’s why it’s so accurately written in her book

Lastly for method number 3, Kathy fails this one quite miserably which again is very damning for the validity of her book

On multiple occasions throughout her book, Elvis was not actually where she claimed he was (based on the dates of her entries)

For example, one of the most terribly obvious mistakes in her dated entries occurs on July 15th, 1970

Sorry if this seems sudden, but what are your thoughts on a Young Edelgard befriending a Young Byleth who canonically doesn't have friends due to how people are afraid and creeped out by her behavior?

Yea, the tragedy is how Byleth has nobody their age to connect with as well as most not getting them to the point of dehumanization until Garreg Mach, but it's neat to think of.

ohhhh tbh i love this… in my mind, young edelgard is very precocious, but also extremely coddled (comes with being royalty) and kind of oblivious/condescending without meaning to be. “aren’t all tutors dreadful? hm? you don’t have lessons? what do you do all day? what?? you work??? is that allowed????”

like, well-meaning with a strong sense of justice, and genuinely curious about other people’s lives, but without a frame of reference for anything yet.

and young byleth, as you say, would have been intimidating to be around lol. an eerie and serious kid who probably learned how to kill a man not long after she learned to walk. i see her as being affable in the sense that she just kind of goes along with whatever situation she’s in, without any investment in it one way or another beyond doing what she’s told, but she would definitely be confused by other kids and struggle hard with social cues, etc. until she gets sufficiently good at reading people as to passably mask. it’s a very lonely and difficult way to live.

i could absolutely see edelgard running into this weird little girl and adopting her on the spot. “why don’t people play with you. what do you mean, you don’t know how to play. we’re going to play a game right now; so there.” edelgard is nothing if not driven and dedicated to the causes she believes in (and her massive savior/martyr complex doesn’t help lol—she’s already adopted one local weirdo by becoming besties with hubert). so i think if she set her mind to being byleth’s friend, she would make it happen. this kid is now her personal project. they WILL be friends.

and i reckon that friendship would do wonders for byleth. she had so little interaction with anyone her age in her youth, and having one real friend might make all the difference for her. edelgard could help ground her, and help her better understand the world they live in, and keep her in touch with her humanity—or, really, help her discover it in the first place. meanwhile, edelgard could learn a LOT from byleth, who’s spent her life unhoused* and pretty much living paycheck-to-paycheck with jeralt’s band of violent (and likely alcoholic, per jeralt and alois) mercs. byleth could lend her some perspective and further shape edelgard’s love for the people of fódlan, as well as her understanding of what kinds of societal changes are needed to make things better for everyone.

who knows, that connection might even lead sothis to emerge earlier…

the concern, of course, is jeralt, who (for debatably valid reasons) never wants to stay anywhere for too long, and probably would get super freaked out by the idea of his kid hanging around one of the heirs of the adrestian empire. whether they’d actually have enough time to become friends… idk.

but kids are funny when they set their minds to something. i’d like to think edelgard would decide, day one, that they’re friends, and friends help each other, so that’s what she’s going to do. i’d like to think that when edelgard found out byleth’s group would be leaving again soon, she’d use that big brain of hers and coax her father into hiring the mercenaries on for a long-term mission or as a standing battalion. adrestia’s been on the outs with the church for a good while already, so jeralt might feel comfortable enough to consider putting down roots, even if just for a little longer than usual.

that could REALLY change both byleth and edelgard’s lives. in my little daydream, byleth starts training to be a knight and a personal guard for edelgard, and basically spends as much time around her as hubert does. and maybe, when the insurrection happens edelgard is taken to fhirdiad, hubert stands a better chance of finding her with someone by his side who has spent her entire young life in the woods and on the roads, tracking enemies and avoiding pursuers. maybe they find her. maybe they help prevent some truly terrible things from happening.

what happens from there, idk; so many of edelgard’s views are informed by her experiences and it gets too complicated for my tiny brain to realistically figure out what would occur and who she’d be if it went down like that instead.

but byleth would be changed just by knowing edelgard. having someone in her young life who is invested in her, who sees beyond the fog of the day-to-day, who’s interested in what she wants, who embraces and celebrates her quirks and doesn’t shun her for them, who grants her stability and some agency in her own life… someone who sees her as a person, not just as a sword or set of hands… how could anyone not be changed by something like that?

* with the exception of Whatever The Fuck she was doing while jeralt was parading around in leonie’s village for however long. this is my least favorite plot hole in the game, namely because leonie acknowledges it. “huh. i don’t remember you being there, and you don’t, either. maybe you were with a relative”??? what relative, IS?? how many living relatives does byleth have that aren’t trying to turn her into a mommy-god??? why fake your kid’s death and disappear “for her safety,” just to ditch said kid somewhere with someone for months?????

That's not necessarily true, Yuma. Desuhiko works in information gathering, and you'd be surprised what people will tell to celebrities. Plus, with his Disguise kit, he can be whoever he wants when he's on the job.

Like Halara, Desuhiko's Forte is not something he learned at Xavier's School but a pre-existing talent that he merely honed under their tutelage.

Desuhiko is completely self-taught. He's not even 100% sure what he needs to learn. This would be a good time to bring up his guitar, but he freezes out of ignorance instead.

Kid gives off strong poser energy. I don't get the impression from him that he wants to be, specifically, a singer or dancer or guitarist or actor, or even a Triple Threat. He may not even know what a Triple Threat is.

He has no passion for performance. He just wants to be famous. I think it comes from the same place as his skirt-chasing; Desuhiko craves external validation. He still has low self-esteem; He just, like many fragile overcompensaters, masks it under a veil of aloofness. He's the sort of guy that will tell you to your face that he doesn't care what you think, while visibly caring a great deal about what you think.

Tbh, I didn’t mind Rhaenyra disliking the idea of marriage and motherhood after watching her mother endure failed pregnancy after failed pregnancy and saw how it weakened her each time until she died. I feel like it’s realistic that she’d have fears about it and that she would be reluctant. And I think her reluctance does come from a place of fear and not a natural distaste, like Arya’s. And honestly, F&B never says that she was super into the idea of motherhood or anything, iirc. I don’t think it says anything at all about how she feels about it when she’s young, so I actually think the show’s interpretation is valid. (I could be wrong, it’s been a while since I read it, feel free to correct me if you know of a quote where it’s mentioned). I just wish the show had taken the time to explore her fears and how she overcame them, what her experience was with her first pregnancy, how she adjusted to motherhood after Jace’s birth, etc.

Nonnie when I watched that scene I didn't mind it either, despite the fact that it WAS anachronistic. Later on though, when I continued watching, I understood the faux feminist message the showrunners wanted to force-feed down our throats and everything came into perspective.

Yes it would be nice to include a scene where Rhaenyra is afraid of childbirth after her own mother died in childbirth and then a scene that shows how she overcame her fears. This is valid. However, I vehemently disagree with the general direction the showrunners took, putting Rhaenyra's (and Alicent's and Laena's and Aemma's) struggle with femininity at the core of the story, along with all these many atrocious torture porne-y scenes of childbirth. It's misleading in a very subtle way. The issue here isn't whether Rhaenyra/Alicent/Laena are or aren't "super into motherhood". The issue here is Rhaenyra was executed for being the first female heir to the throne. The show's approach, as I said, is faux-feminist, unifying the experiences of female characters that are fundamentally different (the only thing they share in common is their motherhood), where the focus should be elsewhere. It's no coincidence that the showrunners DIDN'T include a scene of Rhaenyra overcoming her fears of childbirth. Quite the contrary, they show her clearly struggling with two (2) childbirths, giving us the indirect message that actually she hates this and it's so fundamentally different to what she aspired to be. I'm not saying that showing a woman struggling in a childbirth means she hates her children. I'm saying that the deliberate choice of showing Rhaenyra's two entire childbirths in combination with Aemma's atrocious and entirely unnecessary one AND the disaster that was Laena's childbirth, and all this in the context of Rhaenyra saying "I hate the prospect of having kids" has a very very clear political message that has nothing to do with who Rhaenyra actually was in the book, and verges on feminist separatism, which is a very modern approach.

No guys, Rhaenyra wanted to have kids. She had SIX of them PLUS two step daughters, she had a happy family and she loved her husband. Nobody forced her to have these kids. The problem here isn't motherhood. The problem is misogyny. Instead of focusing on the struggle with motherhood as a whole, the showrunners should have focused on the actual political issue here = the green's misogyny/religious obsession, the treason/the usurpation/the war etc where men and women played a fundamental role in Rhaenyra's demise.

But oh well. This is an extremely nuanced discussion for the average audience I guess.

About Arya's "natural distaste" to everything concerning traditional womanhood Vs Rhaenyra's "genuine fear" I'll have to think about it. Yes these characters are different, Arya canonically rejects many gender norms that are imposed on her like marriage/motherhood etc, and Rhaenyra rejects other gender norms that are imposed on her (for example the norm that prohibits her from becoming a ruler). They are not the same BUT I consider Arya as an "evolution" of Rhaenyra in a sense, a step forward. I don't know if I would choose the words "natural distaste vs genuine fear" to describe this though.

Still thinking about this post...I simply can't wrap my head around the idea that Toga's realization would be about realizing her love for the league. We have a group of villains--three of which notably stand out in a way that they are constantly trying to seek some sort of validation, recognition, or attention from someone specific that they latched onto because in their heads that person represents what they want, and all three of them have been thrown in the faces of those people for this final battle! I wonder why!

The thing is that...Toga "realizing her true love for the lov" 1) does nothing for her arc, resolves nothing about her personal issues that led to her latching onto Ochacko in the first place, and 2) does absolutely nothing for Tomura, Touya, Spinner, Kurogiri, Compress--whoever is left of the LOV's arcs either. Nothing.

Tomura is spiraling because he hates himself because he's convinced himself he's born to destroy which is why he believes he wanted to kill his family (when he didn't), and he thinks nobody saving him was divine punishment for killing his family, and continuing to be ignored and unsaved and unacknowledged by a hero is what continues to make him believe he's beyond saving and can never be happy again---so why not destroy it all. What does Toga have to do with that?

Touya is spiraling because he wants his family to love him. What does Toga have to do with that?

Spinner wants a sense of self and wants to feel like somebody. Not sure what Toga has to do with that.

TOGA wants to escape the abuse and rejection she faced her entire life up until she ran away and actually be accepted for who she is and how she was born, stop feeling like she has to be someone else to be accepted, and also obviously wants to be able to do the teenage girl things she was robbed of when she was on the run. What does "realizing" that she loves Tomura, Touya, etc. have to do with that? How does that help any of her issues?

And again like....even when the LOV showed concern about each other's feelings, they were never concerned in a way that would have made the situation better. Tomura says he'll spare the things his allies like but, he doesn't really mean that, because that's not what he's doing lol. Spinner told Toga to come back to them and, well, in a fit of tears she did--disappointed and hurt by not getting what she was hoping for--and look what she came back to, and look where she's at now. Kurogiri showed up to "save Shigaraki and the others" and portaled her to where she would begin her tread of "annihilating all heroes" and look where that "save" got her. Touya told her to carry on Jin's parade, out of the kindness of his heart because he knew it would mean a lot to her to have his blood--but look where that got her. She's now breaking down because she can't simulate bringing back her dead friend and now she's being forced to face the misery of her reality. She is breaking down.

The only person who actually actively cares about dragging Toga out of the mud and not just bringing her down with them so that she's miserable! but just not miserable alone! is Ochacko.
