he reads the words right off your skin, fingertips fleeting over the letters, he mouthes every one of them as if he is saying his saving grace.

eyes that pass yours so momentarily you almost missed it, so hastily, not trying to miss out a single sound of what he reads.

breath is escaping his lips, the hairs on your skin standing up right. and you wonder how you have fooled this one into loving you, so much so that he caresses every ridge and hill on your body, so much so that his eyes drink up every millimeter of what they can see.

so much so that he swears he never will look away from you, he swears that he will never leave you on your own.

and you wonder if he'll notice that he's the only one standing inbetween ruins while you never plan on taking any of your walls down.

you wonder when he'll lose his way in your labyrinth, too deeply intertwined to find his way out, though you don't have the goodness to direct him out. all you can do is watch as his fingers trace the words on your skin again, and again, and again.

as if they were a mantra. as if he could engrave them into his mind. as if that made them real. how could you ever forget the feeling of his breath fleeting hitting your skin as his lips formed the words repeatedly, breath so hot it bites you as you try to swallow the burning guilt of letting him love you like this.

but as his eyes glance up to meet yours yet again, there is no choice to be had. to be loved by him was to be burned to ashes, and you had let the flames eat away at your flesh. so long that they have become a part of you.

you feel nothing but ember and fire and bones, and he loved you until there was nothing left of it all. nothing but the ghost of the words on your skin fleeting past his lips yet again, savoring your every being in a way nobody else ever did.
