Since this is becoming a relevant conversation again...
People are wondering why the ratio between mlm and wlw is so dramatic. This is reasonable question to ask, however, people's first explanation is misogyny. This is (mostly) incorrect.
if you watch Contrapoint's latest video (Twilight) she actually gets into the psychology of women reading mlm.
However, i think that she says it better than i do and you can watch her video to see her analysis. I'm hear to share my own experience.
I'm afab and I read more mlm than wlw. In fact, i barely read any wlw at all. That, to someone who's ready to scream "misogyny" wouldn't make sense to to ME liking women.
Here's the truth on why I read mlm more: I relate to male characters more. Now, you might suggest that this is because the male characters i read are better written, however, I disagree. I relate to male characters more because I was RAISED as a "boy." My father WAS misogynistic and was expecting a son. He got two daughters. Instead of changing his parenting style, I got raised with "men's issues."
Men's issues meaning, an expectation to not just be good, but be The Best(TM). An expectation to never share or show emotion. An expectation to treat ever hobby like it will be a job, contraetc
HOWEVER! I was also raised as a "girl" because of his misogyny. This made me have "women's issues."
Women's issues meaning, an expectation to settle for the bare minimum, an expectation to stay quiet & not speak up & not advocate for myself, an expectation to be a housewife and to focus on my looks above my self worth. etc
This means that when female characters complain about how "men don't know how to communicate, yadda yadda UUGGGHH MEN" I always cringe because I AM that person. I can't communicate like other girls (literally). I wasn't taught to communicate. I was taught to hide my feelings and bottle my emotions up. All I hear is characters berating each other for not communicating when the writers don't realize that it is NOT THAT EASY. Any communication skills I've learned is from reading & writing essays for school.
I just can't relate to girls that complain about that sort of thing because I have the issues they complain about. As someone who's afab, raised with the worst of both worlds, take it from me:
The Amount of Emotional Repression that Men Experience on a Daily Basis is Cruel and Inhumane.
If you won't listen to them tell you that, then you will listen to me.
Because of this, I find myself relating more to male characters. So yes, I will continue to read mlm more than wlw. Until people actually talk about men's issues in a kinder manner and write character accordingly, I will continue to read mlm. That's not misogyny. That's me looking for characters with similar life experience to me. I'm sure SOMEONE reads more mlm because of misogyny, but they are the MINORITY.
Put away your pitchforks and Mind. Your. Business.

I notice that all the climate panic is mainly aimed at not putting more carbon into the atmosphere
is it just utterly unfeasible to think about drawing carbon out of the atmosphere?
i.e. someone please plant a shitload of trees

I've moved beyond anger to just finding it hilarious whenever people depict the batfam as just the "core four" Robins. They're always drawn with exactly the same features, pale skin, same face shape and hair colour, just different heights, and they're all allowed one personality trait each. Nightwing is the blue one Damian is the short one Jason wears a jacket and Tim has floppy hair. And fanboys and fangirls alike will go absolutely nuts over it acting as if its the best and only version of the batfam. It's like a parody of fandom better than even the most cynical and satirical critic could write except its real and they all lack self awareness. If you told me they all had a onceler phase back in the day it would be the least surprising fact ever.

You always hear about how smart it is to steer a course between two extremes. "Moderation in all things" and all that. But I kind of wonder if we're falling into the opposite trap. The post below about Negy getting unpersoned for dating a coworker made me think of it with the quote:
Nor did the lawyers care for the happy hours and whiskey tastings that Sabatini sometimes hosted in his office, which betrayed his “apparent ‘friendliness’ and general propensity to have ‘fun.’”
People accuse the wokes of being Puritans. But they aren't really. They have the (stereotypical) flaws of the Puritans: nosy, judgmental, rigid. But they don't have the moral uprightness, the strong community or the work ethic. They also don't have joi de vivre of the libertine. They've steered a middle course where they get all of the negatives of both sides without any redeeming characteristics at all.
I've been reading a lot of Heinlein lately. My two favorite of his books are The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Starship Troopers. TMIAHM is about an anarcho-libertarian society on the moon where you get health insurance (if you want it ) from a bookie and the justice system is when a mob grabs a trouble maker and throw him out the nearest airlock. Starship Troopers is a more rigid, militaristic society where to be a citizen you have to submit yourself to an extremely harsh and strict term of military service. They're very different societies but both of them (thanks to Heinlein being a fantastic writer) feel very appealing to live in. I kind of wonder if that's not where we're at.
Either Libertopia or homogenous fascism land could be nice to live in, but we steered a course where the worst of the worse get left alone while decent people are hounded and attacked relentlessly. If we lived in the old west where there were no police you could round up a posse with the neighbors to deal with trouble makers. If we lived in Starship Troopers the local police would catch them in no time and give them fifty lashes. But we don't. we picked a middle way where the police pretend to deal with the problem but really most criminals either don't get caught or get released right away to keep terrorizing people. But if you try to deal with the problem yourself like Rittenhouse or the McMichaels the police will put you away for life.
And it's not just crime. I could deal with a world where the government didn't "help" you with healthcare and if you couldn't pay a doctor you died in the street. I could also deal with a world where you give them x% of your salary and they handle everything competently and efficiently. Instead you have a Frankenstein system where you pay for lavish government healthcare for other people through medicare and medicaid but if you ever get sick yourself you still get fucked with massive bills.
I'd really rather live in a world of unhinged extremists.

the whole guilt-tripping language in posts about important topics paired with how I'm still getting bitches in my notes talking about why it's actually good to tell "bad" people to kill themselves continues to prove to me that a lot of people have absolutely no concept of social justice or activism outside of assuming the worst of and then viciously attacking strangers on the internet
