i know everybody has their favorite iconic moment or episode about them that further prove how they’re soulmates but for me the christmas ep is literally the best! i could write a whole novel about it and still wouldn’t be enough (aside from the fact that both melissa and barbara look GORGEOUS) the hype i got the first time i watched? the buzz through the whole ep? the parallels with the [other] show’s hinted couple? the angst? the fluff? the yearning? the smitteness? the way that even though they’re still wearing the same clothes from earlier they CLEARLY freshen up and fix their hair and makeup for dinner? the looks? the matching aesthetic? the intimate traditions? absolutely groundbreaking.
You're so right. Honestly, like, any episode where there's a clear parallel line between whatever the ww have going on and teddie's will-they-wont-they drama it's very... how else are we meant to interpret this? Can you imagine a m/f couple in any other show having a literal annual candlelit dinner where they get all gussied up and look at each other like that and are so uncomfortable about having been cockblocked and have it not be interpreted as romantic skjnrkjgnr how else are we meant to take it?????

This whole hatred against N and her potentially getting with D reminds me of the Vampire Diaries and it’s treatment of WOC especially Bonnie who has great chemistry with a couple of guys especially one of the male leads also called Damon(lol). Unfortunately the Delena fanbase was the Daemyra of TVD so ofc they were clearly threatened by Baemon’s chemistry and were also pretty racist towards Bonnie as was the writers. It’s very obvious because the show was based on books and they were a thing in them but Bonnie was white as well there. And when confronted over their racist treatment on the character one of the show runners was like “I looove Bonnie! Do you seriously want her to end up with a psycho killer like D?! She deserves better!” Basically the same BS D*emyra stans say.🙄How interesting the way things haven’t changed in fandoms when it comes to a black woman being seen as desirable and worthy of love. They already pulled similar crap with Laena in HOTD. If they do it with N as well despite there being tons of evidence that she and D might have been potentially romantically involved it will be so obvious embarrassing how racist they are their whole “we’re tying to be diverse”PR they’re trying to sell will crash and burn. D watching N leave as Caraxes screams is such an iconic scene! If they change it in favour of some astrocious BS like they did with L’s death😡😤
Lol yeah I never got into the Vampire Diaries(I only watched like one episode), but I know about the chaos surrounding that show especially the BTS drama. Julie Pec did Kat Graham/her character dirty and I’m sure that the fan base did not help.
From what I have heard the Pec woman was “in love with Damon” which definitely did not help matters.
Do people not realize that their racism is obvious? Cause when you praise one couple(featuring a WW) in a certain trope, but then turn around and say “no that can’t be” for another couple(featuring a WOC or BW) with the same trope, then it becomes super obvious why you really don’t like that couple being together.
They did not handle Laena and Daemon’s relationship correctly, but that’s over with so 🤷🏽‍♀️ Honestly I don’t think(my optimism side is showing again) Daemyra is going to be endgame in the show. For one, the show writers do not seem to like them together or Daemon in general.
Then you have the issue of Nettles 👩🏾 🐉🐑essentially being Daemon’s last arc before he goes on his “suicide mission.” He’s with Nettles night😏 and day. She’s his constant “companion” for the last 6 months to a year? of his life.
Rhaenyra 👸🏼 is off in the capital stress eating 🍰, listening to bad advice(cough cough Misery’s miserable behind), her kids are dropping like flies, and she is slowly losing her mind.
Unless they are going to change all of that and somehow make Rhaenyra some warrior queen🤣 who is constantly fighting battles alongside Daemon which would take her away from you know ruling 🙃, Daemyra is not gonna be end game.
This isn’t some CW teen show(no disrespect to those shows). They would literally ruin the show by proping up Daemon and Rhaenyra’s stale relationship to appease a small number(I’ve seen quite a few other white fans get annoyed with their behavior) of horny suspect stans. If they do not include that last scene where Daemon sends off Nettles(to protect her) that is a hate crime. Lol
GRRM seems to have a soft spot for Daemon and Nettles so hopefully he will help steer things in the right direction. Make Nettles Daemon’s “redemption” arc. I do not care just keep it book canon when it comes to his relationship(which is romantic/sexual in nature) with Nettles.

I completely agree with you! They were so confused about how to approach the story. Because it was a phenomenon, it had the exact issue as GOT, where it forgot the importance of the themes and the importance of what it was telling, and focused more on being a pop culture moment and always being talked about. Remember WW going to marches in the costume?? The creators don't realise that the IMPACT was just in showing that June was an ordinary woman forced into a world that oppresses her. Yuck.
You know I wonder if the shows popularity is why it lost its way. I mean I know that the pressure and criticism from season 3 pushed the writers to speed up June leaving Gilead and the revolution, but I wonder if it also made them focus more on being “iconic” and always on edge. I do feel like the writers overdid it with the shock factor and torture porn. After *that* episode from season 2, I don’t think the show could get more horrifying so all of the violence following just felt overdone after that. and yeahhhhh who can forget white woman dressing up as handmaid’s during abortion protests it was something the show runner and cast talked about so often.

Okay but even though Once and Future Thing episodes are one of the best things that have ever happened in popculture and are literally perfect, this screenshot made me think: what if our Trio (don't fight me, but Bats+WW+GL are as iconic as superwonderbat) walked into 'what was left out of the Watchtower' and found Future Diana standing next to old Bruce, clearly indicating close relationship, like having her hand on his shoulder? I would go fucking mental if there was a close-up of their matching wedding bands and then Bruce just standing there in total shock, John chuckling because valued friend my ass, Diana being as shocked as Bruce.
I absolutely love old, cranky, bitter Bruce (I used him as an popculture example of different portrayals of older people in an essay that you write when you finish high school in my country [something like SATs but not quite] so big thanks to the screenwriters), I love that it shows how the way you treat people around you has consequences and that the world isn't fair and happy endings are rare. The fact that elderly guy with health issues and sour, sarcastic attitude is a main hero in a cartoon marketed towards older school kids and teenagers seems like a risky choice, but boy, has it worked. I love it, I do, but girl can dream, right? And my dream is that the Amazon Princess finds some domestic happiness with her paranoid Dark Knight.
In conclusion, my parents shouldn't have let me watch Batman Beyond and JL when I was like 4 or 5 but hey, I turned out okay (no I did not)

OH HERE WE GO LADIES IT’S RIVERDALE, CHAPTER EIGHTY: “Purgatorio”
I’m tuning in to be VERY entertained on the grounds that I missed almost the entirety of S4 and will not understand anything
we open with an incredible analogue comparing the football team to the Army, as men do construct rituals: football players get blown into the sky, etc., in a heartrending mash-up of Archie’s innocence + the American ideal/expectations/pipeline of masculinity
Archie Company is decked out appropriately to storm Hürtgen Forest
that art direction trope where a character’s hearing goes EEEEEEEEEEEEEE after an explosion……...delightful
the Vixens and friends cheering him on from the sidelines as if Archie can only process his unprocessable present through the lens of his past………...hits the spot
distressingly wood-based rifles for our purposes
Archie > Dawson: I don’t mind telling you I felt emotion upon Archie hoisting his war buddy over his shoulders to that quadruple-toned “Chivalric Archie Using His Strength for Good” tune, like when he broke his whole hand busting Cheryl out of Sweetwater River
WHEN HE SAW HIRAM LODGE, I’M TELLING YOU!
Hiram’s dragon-scale gloves? absolutely savory; he would
“Yonkers” is one of those New York place names I don’t totally buy is real (Poughkeepsie is another)
the sepia-toned light in this hospital room rings true judging by all the Captain America fanfiction I’ve read; I also like the mint-colored hand towels draped on Archie’s bedframe bought, one assumes, using the Department of Defense’s Kohl’s Cash
Archie made Sergeant, which is the best ranking for a fictional character: important enough that they can be a leader, get into trouble; low-profile enough that you don’t have to write them in the room making terrible decisions; probably won’t die immediately, as a Captain or Private might be
Fifth period is AP English: Archie reads A Farewell to Arms to Corporal Jackson, a WWI novel by Hemingway that Jug definitely turned him onto
Christ, Archie looks good in that on-leave jacket thing
I like Jackson’s subtle graph paper-print hospital gown
Gay?!: was Jackson in love with Archie? is he gonna bus to Riverdale once he’s off his pain meds? RAS, is that you in there?
God you know I love that haunted-ass Exorcist wooden bench bus light lighting
how long has the WW been relocated under Pop’s??? I do NOT know what happened to La Bonne Nuit
Sexy, aesthetic Southside: Fangs’ hair? his Tony Stark glasses? the girls’ “I’m a Slave 4 U” Burmese pythons? Toni’s headdress and immaculate glossed lip?
Sixth period is Intro to Film: the only part of From Dusk till Dawn I’ve seen is Salma Hayek putting her toe in Quentin Tarantino’s mouth but judging from that I figure I’d like the rest
The female gaze: Jesus Sweet Pea still looks good
Toni’s stage is flanked by twin pillars of melting candles and I would like someone to track those down for my bathroom
if they lay one hand on Pop Tate…
Betty appears to be, on her own, running the FBI training course. Betty is such a freak
Betty’s FBI-appointed psychologist is “Dr. Starling,” wears a great yellow blouse; Betty eats what appears to be a mini-sized Milky Way
her blond FBI trainer-boyfriend (uh) Glen appears to be an unholy fusion of Jimmi Simpson and that one actor with brown hair and really sharp light eyes whose acting credits I can’t think of right now, you know who I’m talking about (not the guy from Vampire Diaries)
I quite like her patterned blouse and I hate his yellow (gold?!) and blue tie
Please protect Betty: obviously we stan the Silence of the Lambs shit even as it remains infuriating Bryan Fuller couldn’t get his hands in it
Betty’s cat’s crying was so disturbingly baby-like that I had to leave the room once I realized it was in fact a cat
I’ve watched the Elisa Lam tape too many times in recent hours to handle this hallway shot
REALLY GROSS LICKING NOISES
the Trash Bag Killer coming at her was scary :(
Betty’s lovely blue knit cardi with the puffed sleeves!
50 Shades of Betty: clearing her throat before the doctor quite finishes her sentence—Lili Reinhart continues to be great at conveying “slightly perturbing subterranean tension”
was Charles a serial killer too??? oh damn!
Betty has been successfully holding off giving Glen a key to her place until now, an era that must come to a close
fellas, “Do I at least get a kiss?” is a bad move
Veronica was rich: Veronica’s new digs: exposed brick, bougiely avant-garde chandelier; possibly an elevator door right there behind the dude?
Veronica has married Hiram, to no one’s surprise
Chadwick looks like Jimmi Simpson and brunet Evan Peters plus a jaw
Veronica’s single-puffled-sleeved gown…..madamn (she has absolutely been taking secret birth control pills)
Summer + Blair = Veronica: of course Veronica would be great at Howard Ratner’s job; I MUST know what “specialty showcase haute couture offense” Vinnie has committed
T-Dubbs’ green jacket
Veronica pretended she was working at like, a department store? but she MISSED the EDGE post-day-trading
their apartment is so expensive that their bedroom is totally exposed
oh my god, Hermione
Best costume bit: please get me these satiny green high-waisted slacks?! and ugh her blouse has shoulder tassels……..she’s flourishing
“That’s threatening to an alpha like Chad.”
yes, they have a private elevator. fine.
Glen and Chad get their ties from the same Men’s Warehouse
“When that helicopter went down on the way to Martha’s Vineyard…”
you know kissing is 4-real when one person cups their hand to the back of the other person’s neck all close
I don’t understand the drop of the Glamergé egg but I appreciate that there is one and that Veronica is like, get this the fuck out of my house
Veronica’s shiny cropped tweed two-piece, Yvonne’s weird feathery coat that matches her bf’s shirt (you know she’s supposed to be “too much” because she’s got big hoop earrings)
God, Jughead is next and I’m not gonna be able to handle it
OH GOD IT’S SO MUCH WORSE THAN I THOUGHT
Alphabet City?! the piano?? the fucking East Coast Beat typewriter shit—the day robe? I’m—READING CLUBMASTERS? FORSYTHE???
OH GOD HE’S DATING ANOTHER WRITER (she has nice pants)
Jughead eats: “that place you like” is a HOT DOG STAND in the middle of SOME GRASS
I’ve seen Brick like thirty times: Jughead wears high-ankle light blue jeans, grey socks, and spectators that blend to create the illusion of wading boots. I’m going to commit a crime
Jughead doubts it: “So did Kerouac. And Hemingway. And Fitzgerald.”
fuck yes I love Floundering Jughead, and his Pushy Agent who pronounces “career” like “Korea,” and the continuing tradition of Jughead getting kicked out of his house
I like Literary Grifter’s sweater
the Brat Pack, and most of the Rat Pack for that matter, were actors, but I assume RAS couldn’t resist the rhyme
I was 100% afraid we were about to learn Cora was an uncomfortably-young undergrad
the musical cue as she reaches into her bag is absolutely as if she’s taking out a gun, and it might as well be! it’s the scariest thing in NYC: an unpublished manuscript
showrunners doing a classic I Love Lucy job partially concealing Vanessa Morgan’s pregnancy via medium close-ups, draping black clothes
Cheryl slowly turning to ask if doesn’t she look okay 10/10 icon
Cheryl’s pins: she has either a tiny spider or maybe a tick
Cheryl’s sheaths: the lacy red thing, amazing
why is Cheryl’s left hand gloved?
Cheryl’s a chaos angel from hell: Cheryl’s going to forge a Rembrandt, which unfortunately means she’s my favorite person on the planet (she does not look happy about doing this)
btw is Nana Rose an Immortal?
please tell me about Toni’s eyelashes
EXTREMELY HAUNTED DOLL?!
“Damn good coffee”: Archie’s earnest “Where are people gonna sit for the bus?” slayed me
fuck YEAH Ghoulies party house! terrible music but really good skull spray paint art
Jug looks LOW lol
Veronica’s blouse + buttons, impeccable
I’m writing a scene where it’s gay.: Tabitha/Squeaky
the hellscape semi’s red backlighting and its skeleton’s red eyes
I like Linette’s glossy bomber!
the trucker who’s about to kill her can’t also be the Trash Bag Killer….truckers have to stick to too much of a schedule….but he could be Betty’s meandering serial
I loved this episode
NEXT WEEK: Archie brings the FBI down on some people paying their rent :(

Can I confess something? I know that positivity is “better” than negativity, and people are allowed to have their opinions, but there is something about Pro-Jedi “they did nothing wrong, absolutely no flaws, but were ONLY destroyed by Palpatine” arguments that makes me kind of uncomfortable. Nevermind that half of it is sourced by Disney revisionist canon, it’s just… there is something in the “the intent was good, but this is harmful” “NO ITS 100% GOOD ACTUALLY” that makes my skin crawl. Sorry
I feel you, anon. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. It worries me how defensive some people are getting. I mean, I love my favorite fictional characters too. I think that’s absolutely normal, and loving a fictional character whether they are the heroes or the villains doesn’t say anything about who we are as people. Admitting we love Anakin or Darth Vader doesn’t immediately make us favorable to torture, war, fascism, murder and corruption.
However, the arguments we use to explain a characters behavior do say something about who we are. And some arguments being used by the star wars fandom are downright scary. You know, there’s a difference between saying ‘I don’t like Padmé because she’s not the type of character I’m usually interested in’ and saying ‘Padmé is useless weak bitch because she died’. One is about you expressing your taste and the other is you showing the world your sexism.
It’s the same with Anakin, Vader and every one fictional character in existence, regardless of fandom. there’s nothing wrong with loving Anakin, but when you start advocating that genocide is a valid option, if you think women belong to men, that torture works and authoritarianism makes the world better, I’m not gonna lie, warning bells do go off in my head.
It’s the same with the Jedi. there’s nothing wrong with loving and supporting them because they were designed to liked by the audience. but once you start advocating that child slavery is not that bad, that war crimes are justified, that indoctrinating children is healthy, that mind controlling people against their will is a kindness, dismemberment is compassion, that child soldiers are a valid option and that the enslavement of poc characters is a necessity…MAYBE the issue here is no longer about fictional characters.
It’s ironic because if an Anakin fan says Anakin was right in slaughtering the tusken raiders, most people – anakin fans included – will be outraged by notion that genocide and mass murder should ever be considered the right solution to any problem. we love Anakin but we also know he made mistakes and what those mistakes were. it’s not about defending him, it’s about acknowledging certain things are simply wrong even if they are done by fictional characters we love.
Weirdly enough, when it comes to the Jedi nothing seems to be wrong enough to some people. everything is justifiable: war crimes, child endangerment, slavery, etc. Nothing seems to be bad enough that they can’t find a way to justify it. And that scares me. because it has become so obvious these issues only matter when the jedi are harmed by them.
The most current example of this is the The Clone Wars series finale. The episode was heavily focused on the massive loss of clones lives that happened during Order 66 and yet some fans were outraged that their white favorites weren’t the main focus of the episode because THEY SUFFERED SO MUCH MORE. It’s the same with fans rapidly turning on Ahsoka, the Martez sisters and even Filoni for so much as hinting they didn’t agree with the Order’s decisions.
You know, it’s not about them defending the Jedi is about how and why they defend them. Saying I don’t care what the jedi did because I love them is fine. Saying I love the Jedi because they never did anything wrong and then writing a long ass essay on why the lives of POC characters don’t matter is not. It sickens me to see people spend a lot of time writing fucking books desperately trying to justify why not helping Kitster, Ahsoka, Barriss or the younglings hunted for sport was the right call at the same they romanticize Obi-wan’s short enslavement as the one of the most tragic things that has ever happening the entire franchise.
Imo, that’s pretty telling. I don’t know if they are racist or just really, really insecure about their own taste but it does makes me wonder about who they are as people. it sounds harsh even to me to say this but the truth is this does goes beyond fiction. this shit has affected people in real life. I mean, every once in a while I see a jedi ‘stan’ telling someone Karen Traviss hated the Jedi and that she was the personification of everything that’s evil about people who criticize the Jedi Order. Look, I don’t know anything about who she is a person but I do know the same Jedi stans spent years sending her death and RAPE threats for being critical of the FICTIONAL CHARACTERS even after she wrote a long letter explaining she didn’t actually hate the Jedi. I don’t know where everyone moral compass is pointing at but *I* was raised to believe that wishing a woman dead and/or raped is NEVER the best answer.
But somehow people who say ‘I love the jedi even if they weren’t perfect’ are being portrayed as the villainous, irrational fans who are ruining everything and attacking everyone. I sleep well at night knowing i never tried to pass actual crimes that harm actual people as good, righteous things just to make fictional characters look better.
It’s not about hating the Jedi the same way that acknowledging Anakin’s crimes is not about hating on Anakin. It’s about recognizing that something that is legally and morally wrong in real life is also wrong in fiction, specially when the fiction world was build as a political parallel of our own. We are not saying war crimes and slavery is wrong because we hate the say, we are saying war crimes and slavery are wrong because THEY ARE WRONG. If our love and support for fictional characters can so easily blind us to real life morality then maybe we should do some soul searching before going to such lengths to justify something considered a heinous crime in both fictional and real world
A few days ago I was trying to get a coworker to start watching Breaking Bad. We were talking about Walter White and why he was such iconic character. he’s clearly not a great guy but that doesn’t mean we don’t love the character. I think that’s the difference some fans have a hard time grasping: the difference between a good character and a good person. I have seen many fans saying WW’s actions were cool, badass, ‘manly’ or whatever but I’ve never seen anyone trying to pass drug trafficking and murder as morally superior choices.
That’s what I’m trying to say. We can love (or hate) fictional characters for whatever reason we want. but how we go about justifying their actions and how we react to those who disagree with our views do say a lot about who we are. I mean, there’s a big difference between saying ‘it was so cool to watch Darth Vader is laughter all those red shirts in Rogue One’ and saying ‘and war crimes are a necessary part of life, Darth Vader was morally justified in slaughter them all and those who disagree with me are haters’.
Taste doesn’t really said anything about who we are but behavior does. Loving or hating a fictional characters doesn’t make us better or worse than anyone. But what we have to say about fictional and how we behave around other fans do say a lot about who we are.
Fandom is a community and like any community nothing and no one is perfect. Pretending ‘everything is awesome’ is choice, of couse, but one i’m not very fond of.

I’m accepting now condolences on my death
so, I thought that Havers looked familiar and that maybe I saw the actor playing another WW soldier?
then I looked up Peter Sandys-Clarke and I discovered that he was in the first part of series 1 finale of Torchwood
and it was the first episode of Torchwood I’d ever seen (don’t ask me why, and no, it wasn’t the kiss)
and it was the reason why I started watching Doctor Who back then in 2007
back when I was so far in the closet I was crying about Rose Tyler through its wall
it was from the two-parter that gave us two Captains kissing each other
when there were angels dancing at the Ritz
and as closeted as I was, I still knew it was the most beautiful thing I’d seen
and yes, Peter Sandys-Clarke did play a WW2 soldier in it
and I got so excited about it, I almost threw up a little
anyway, fic? something? can I call Havers Tim? not really. but I might.
and, like, Peter Sandys-Clarke is officially an icon.

Can we talk about how the acting in Agnes’s one scene in the last episode was better than Wanda’s entire mcu career? I’d be so embarrassed to have a ww side character wipe me like that on my own show that I got from being 90s-00s icons younger sister.
That's the power of kathryn hahn!! That's my doc ock!!

Happy 45th anniversary, Bionic Woman!
January 14 marked the 45th anniversary of the first broadcast of The Bionic Woman, the Emmy-winning spin-off of The Six Million Dollar Man and the first-ever US prime time series featuring a female superhero (Joanna Cameron’s Secrets of Isis, the actual first-ever for US TV, was a Saturday morning show, and Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman didn’t debut as a proper series until April 1976).
Tumblr media
Lindsay Wagner become the first lead performer in a sci-fi series to win a lead acting Emmy for her work as Jaime Sommers, a former tennis pro and onetime fiancee to Six Million Dollar Man Steve Austin who becomes a secret agent for the deceptively named Office of Scientific Information (OSI) when a parachuting trip goes horribly wrong and she loses an arm, both legs and an ear. Using nuclear-powered life-like prosthetics called bionics she was given the ability to flip cars one-handed, jump 30 feet into the air, hear a pin drop from half a mile away, and run more than 100 miles per hour. (That last isn’t an exaggeration - in an early episode, she actually outpaces a race car pursuing her and they take pains to show its speedometer).
Using the slow-motion photography techniques developed for capturing the power of NFL players in action, we got to see Jaime in action for three seasons, two on ABC and then the series moved to NBC. Her co-stars, Richard Anderson as her boss, Oscar Goldman (who the later actor later confirmed was secretly in love with Jaime) and Martin E. Brooks as Dr. Rudy Wells, the inventor of bionics, became the first actors in history to appear on two shows airing simultaneously on two networks as they also kept their roles in The Six Million Dollar Man (though the frequent crossovers with Steve Austin, such as the epic 3-part “Kill Oscar” arc, came to an end).
Sometimes called a “more human” counterpart to Six Mil, the Bionic Woman tended to focus more on personal stories than “save the world” ones - though the two-part “Doomsday is Tomorrow”, which put her on the clock from stopping a doomsday device from eliminating all life on earth, remains one of the most amazing storylines of its day:
Tumblr media
And Jaime tended to use her charm to try and defuse situations before she had to start throwing people around. Or firing off a tennis ball like a missile (a trick I’m surprised she didn’t try on the bad guys):
Tumblr media
I loved this show growing up and, yes, I had a crush on Lindsay like so many others did. (As I write this I am greatly enjoying seeing CGI-de-aged Lindsay, resembling her Bionic Woman years, in the video game Death Stranding that I got for Christmas.) Yes, there were silly episodes that haven’t aged well (one where she infiltrates a beauty pageant more than a decade before Sandra Bullock’s Miss Congeniality; another where she pretends to be a WWE-style wrestler), and some early episodes were straight remakes of Six Mil episodes because of the very short notice the producers got to create a series after Jaime was introduced on Six Mil, immediately killed off, and then the hue and cry from viewers was so great the entire opening of Six Mil’s next season had to be reworked with mere weeks’ notice to a) revive Jaime somehow (with shades of Doctor Who’s Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald, it involved her forgetting about her relationship with Steve) and b) set her up for a new series to debut a few months later. For a while, reportedly, Lindsay wasn’t sure she wanted to put her growing film career on hold to do a TV series, so the show almost didn’t happen.
One of BW’s strengths is its heroine was not just a “punch-clock hero” who did what she was told. There were episodes where she openly disagreed with having to take on missions and the show’s finale (minor spoiler) was actually reminiscent of Patrick McGoohan’s classic The Prisoner as she tries to leave the OSI, only to find herself (befitting the episode’s title) “on the run”. In 1978 it was still rare for TV series, especially shows in the sci-fi/action genre, to have finale episodes, but BW got one. Years later, Jaime and Steve reunited for three TV movies that gave closure to both characters’ story arcs.
The magic of the Bionic Woman has proven difficult to recapture. A remake series in 2007 starring later Doctor Who one-off companion actress Michelle Ryan failed in part because they took too many liberties with the characters (including taking elements from Martin Caidin’s original novel, Cyborg, upon which Six Mil was based - Jaime herself was the creation of Kenneth Johnson, later the creator of “V” and producer of Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno’s “The Incredible Hulk” and the “Day One” Fox network series “Alien Nation”), plus many felt Ryan was miscast (I disagree) and the show never really had a chance due to a writer’s strike that forced it to end production after only about a half dozen episodes. There were also rumours of a remake starring Jennifer Aniston at one point, and another that reportedly was going to feature a non-superpowered lead with “bionic woman” being a “metaphor for the human condition” or something like that.
Glad that last one didn’t happen. Jaime Summers was (and, let’s be honest, remains) part of an elite group of female superheroes with their own TV shows. And I still think it’s one of the best. In fact, the one-two combination of Jaime Summers and the soon-to-debut Wonder Woman (plus the watered-down-for-kids-but-still-intriguing Isis on Saturday mornings) made 1976 something of a golden year for female superheroes. Nothing beats Jaime taking on Bigfoot or her recurring version of the Daleks, the Fembots. Sadly, a crossover between Jaime and WW never happened, even though they were on the same network at the time; it wasn’t until a couple years ago that DC Comics and Dynamite Comics (who have been doing BW comics for a few years) made that finally happen.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, though, full credit for the success of the original Bionic Woman goes to Lindsay Wagner. Some years ago the Bionic Blonde Youtube channel posted what has become a classic fan video tribute to Jaime. Titled “Bionic Kashmir” it’s just a snapshot of her in action (bookended by scenes from a 1980s reunion movie), but it’s fun. The series is available on DVD and streaming, and I recommend it if you’re interested in some retro fun and experiencing an iconic character again or for the first time.

Throwback Tuesday
January 19, 2021
Howdy, and welcome back to another Throwback Tuesday!
For this episode, we’ll be diving into the iconic Capcom fighting game that defined a franchise and has spawned an exhaustingly long list of remakes in the process, becoming one of the greatest fighting games ever made.
May I present
Street Fighter 2 (1991)
Tumblr media
(For the sake of keeping it to-the-point, this Throwback Tuesday will be dedicated to the very first version of Street Fighter 2. A future Friday Special will cover the long list of Street Fighter 2 remakes.)
Production History
Original Release: March 1991 (Arcade, WW)
Future Releases:  too many to list because of the multitude of re-releases over the years and the fact that it's been released onto almost every console imaginable.
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Designer(s): Akira Nishitani, Akira Yasuda
Producer: Yoshiki Okamoto
Artist(s): Eri Nakamura, Satoru Yamashita
Programmer(s): Shinichi Ueyama, Seiji Okada, Yoshihiro Matsui, Motohide Eshiro
Composer(s): Yoko Shimomura, Isao Abe
Inspiration
Although the original Street Fighter did not sell well, the development team at Capcom still decided to go ahead with Street Fighter 2 after seeing how well Final Fight did commercially in the USA, another legendary fighting series in its own right. With an estimated 35-40 people working on the game, the original was overhauled with better characters, better controls and better animation, the latter of the three being one of the biggest selling points. Despite everything, there was very little emphasis on balance (which would be fixed in later versions thanks to piracy, more on that later) as it was not seen at the time as a big priority.
Story
While there isn't an over-arching story per say, you do learn a little lore about your chosen character once you defeat Bison, the game's big boss, and how each character in the roster has a bone to pick with Bison.
Gameplay
Street Fighter 2 is a player-vs-player fighting game on a side-scrolling, animated background. The goal of the game is to attack and defeat your opponent by depleting their health bar down to zero, and the victor will be scored based on remaining health and time. While following some of the conventions of the first game, like keeping it player-vs-player or player-vs-com, it introduced an attack combo system where pressing a select number of buttons performs special moves.
Reception
To say this game did well is an extreme understatement. The game itself sold so well in arcades that by 1994, it was played by a whopping 25 million people just in the United States alone. It received countless gaming awards, including Game of the Year in 1991. The SNES cartridge release was also commercially successful, making it Capcom's best-selling single software cartridge of all time. Critics raved positively about the title, seeing it as a glow-up from its lackluster first installment, as did players who rushed to arcades to play this soon-to-be-legendary game.
Legacy
Street Fighter 2 not only redefined the franchise but the entire arcade world itself, creating a renaissance of arcade games. It was also influenced by piracy and that piracy even changed the way Capcom looked at SF. Remember when I mentioned that balance wasn't considered when making the game? When Capcom released Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition, fans were quick to point out the lack of balance and loose controls that plagued the first version. After frustrations rose to a fever pitch, several gamers came together and Street Fighter 2: Rainbow Edition was born, the name stemming from the way the title was presented in a weird color palette.
Tumblr media
The pirated version did so well, it made Capcom furious to the point that they quickly dished out Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting to consolidate and regain their fans. The new version became the blueprint for the remakes that would follow as Capcom improved upon the foundation that was set.
So sometimes piracy can be helpful!
Thoughts from the Head
As a Street Fighter fan, I do not have the fortune to play the original version of Street Fighter 2, however I have played the versions released on the Nintendo Switch (Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Super Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers) and I very much enjoyed the latest upgrade. The closest I will ever be to the original is Street Fighter 2 Turbo on my Super Famicom.
That being said, if you can get your hands on any version of Street Fighter 2, do it because this is definitely one of those games that you have to play before you die. It's fast, addictive, and a lot of fun, and the whole magic is definitely "easy to learn, difficult to master" once you have a feel for it. I would definitely recommend this to any fighting game fan. My main is Chun-Li, for those curious.

HEHEHE It’s Another Watcher Weekly Analysis
So no one totally hated the first post of this series, so I am going to keep on going because I enjoy this. If you don’t I’m sorry but if you have any please tell me because I do want this to be enjoyable for other people. As you can tell this is pretty much stream of consciousness and I will rate the episode but all the episodes deserve at least a 10.
Previous Episode: WW #01
WW #02: Puppet History Q&A (ft. Musical Guest- Chrys Ryan)
THEY’RE IN THE OFFICE AND IT'S LAUNCH DAY! i miss when they were in the office
I forgot how pretty their wall is
I love Shane’s gentle “It’s January 5th and it’s time for Watcher Weekly”
Shane’s small “little crumbs”  you can tell the stress got to him
Does everyone have little crumbs in their kitchen???
“My house is a temple!”- Ryan Bergara 2020
Mari is in the office! I LOVE HER!!!
Ooh! There are three camera angles: best boi Steven, the ghoul boys, and the mini audience
strewn? strown? strewn? strown? (at this point i realize this doesn’t make any sense without watching the episode oops)
The first tease of Shane and Ryan being on S.W.A.T, and they had to film the day before their launch date
Shane just called Steven’s hair ~immaculate~ (It is!)
underrated quote from Shane “Outback you can sponsor us”
I love how emotionally drained they all are (editor Gabby: that sounded so weird). Like it is so low energy. It’s wild
Ryan forgetting what crying was. I have never heard someone so confused about what crying is
“You are describing the classic symptoms of crying”- Shane Madej 2020
Shane running in little circles like a dog before the channel launched
I forgot when Shane said that he can outrun a bee. Honey (ha bee pun go buzz buzz) no you can't
Oh my, this is such an iconic scene. “Oh he touched my nipple”
This is evidence that Ryan has a nipple kink
And Shane is just powering through with the merch plug while Ryan is talking about his teet
I love how much Shane doesn't like the Spooky Small Talk logo
I also loved how this trailer was edited! It was really enjoyable to watch!
Man that was such a beautiful compliment from Steven
We love to see the progress and emotional growth of Shane and Ryan’s friendship
Shane legit just poured some milk. Just in a mug. Mill.
I forgot about the professor plushie idea
Also, STEVEN WANTED TO SELL THE PROFESSOR
The Diplococcus vs Ryan part 1
Diplococcus to Shane: When are you going to tell them? Me: 👁👄👁
I love Steven’s laugh
Ryan being like LOOK ME IN THE EYES AND TELL ME YOU ARE NOT THE DIPLOCOCCUS.
Then Steven is like I’m not that smart. Excuse me sir I object!
I love the booming noise after every time they say the “DIPLOCOCCUS”
Congrats on the facial hair Shane!
Again with the lazy river
“All lazy rivers are sexy”- Shane Madej January 2020
Steven’s new show: ~I Just Want to Travel and Eat: Staring Steven Lim~
Look it’s Making Watcher
Also, Shane’s answer about business low-key scared me
Okay Chrys Ryan’s Take It To The Grave is such a banger but like a soft banger
like he’s talented
also, Ryan as the sound guy is like one of my favorite things ever
Shane is still holding the milk carton!!!
Plus the playoff music
and Steven’s little bye while Ryan is shouting that he is not a little tiny man
You can feel the emotional exhaustion in the room but it was still hella fun. Good music and a weird amount of milk. Need more Steven and for that reason, I’m going to give it 21 Ryan’s car tears out of 10.
Next Episode: WW #03

Reacting to The Untamed - Episode One
I’m finally watching The Untamed! I’ve been super excited to watch it, especially since several people have told me it’s like a Chinese Merlin. I’d seen episode one before with my friend, but since I decided (and was requested) to do a live-blog, I rewatched the first episode while writing down my thoughts!
So here it is, my dumb live-blog of episode one:
Right from this opening scene I see the similarities to Merlin - crappy CGI. Love it. And I say this unironically. It just adds a whole different flavour to shows, tbh.
Lover boy Lan Wangji straight up FLEW across this cliff. This guy can fly?? He can FLY? What the fuck??? That’s amazing. If I was him I’d fly everywhere at all times.
Real happy they got the major character death out of the way right at the start so I don’t have to be crushed 5 seasons later on Christmas Day
Old guy: Wei WuXian might come back some day who knows  Wei WuXian, literally 1 second later: Surprise, bitch
Holy shit imagine being so Extra™ that you sacrifice yourself to bring back some dead guy from 16 years ago so he can kill some people who are mean to you
Wei WuXian:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wei WuXian: So... I’ve been brought back to go to a masquerade ball?
Side note, but imagine people bringing ghosts back to party with them
Wei WuXian: WAIT HOLD UP, THIS BITCH BROUGHT ME BACK TO DO WORK!?!?
Tumblr media
Honestly Crazy Mo, at least ASK if he wants to be brought back to life??? Consent!?!?
“You! You! You!” “Me! Me! Me!” This chaotic energy is what I’m here for
Ok so he froze a guy, stole his peanuts and then complained about them. This one is gonna be my fave, I can tell
I am so confused, everyone in this family thinks he’s ‘Crazy Mo’, so why is he scared Lover Boy LWJ is gonna recognise him?
Tumblr media
He just.... lies down on the ground??? And refuses to move??? Iconic???
He’s really embracing the crazy thing, ain’t he? He looks like he’s having so much fun for someone who did not want to be brought back to life to do some dude’s dirty work
Is he just… blowing on a blade of grass? And making music?? What?
Tumblr media
Bitch let’s see YOU play a blade of grass better???
I’m really confused not gonna lie - Mo XuanYu was living with the Mo Clan but they don’t recognise that WW is in his body even though he looks like he did before? And he’s scared LWJ will recognise him? I am… confusion
This mom really be losing it and blaming everyone for everything in the history of the world instead of focusing on how to unzombify her son. Priorities, woman
I still have no idea what’s happening
Why is everyone turning into a zombie
So… only their left hands are possessed? How does that work? Why not any other body part? Imagine if noses could get possessed
All these cultivators stripping in unison is so pretty, but for real boys, this is no time for showmanship there is a lady with a possessed left hand out to KILL YOU
Now the zombies are just fighting with each other??? I still don’t know what’s going on?? I’m lowkey stupid though so maybe that’s why
LWJ gets his bat signal firework, grabs his instrument and is ready to FUCK SHIT UP
Tumblr media
This dude is majestic as hell
And he defeated them... with the power of music
Tumblr media
I can see what’s happening....
Tumblr media
Everyone is in white??? You’re in white???
Tumblr media
wat
HAH LWJ is flying everywhere. He also seems like a dramatic bitch. TBH two dramatic bitches really be my kinda couple
WW has escaped!! But why would he leave when he still has a scar left?? Where’s he going now??
My Final Thoughts: Even though this is the second time I’ve seen this episode, I’m still kind of confused with some of the details. However, I think I followed the overall story well enough for the most part? So far I feel like I’m really gonna love WW, and I am excited to see him and LWJ meet in person. I’m super excited to see what their dynamic is going to be like, and to get more details about the clans and the magic and what WW’s overall mission is going to be. On to the next one!
