i'm starting to hate the whole "not like other girls" thing. like, i get it if its clearly a joke. but if someone is genuinely trying to talk about how they feel lonely/different because of having an interest, for example, that they feel other people don't relate to, don't just mock them and act like they just want to be quirky.

as someone who feels this way about my interests, we don't. that's the exact opposite of how we feel.

literally the whole reason as to why i don't like opening up to my friends is because they don't ever vent themselves, and i hate the thought of me finally trying to talk to them about my feelings, only for them to just view me as different because nobody else did. i don't want them to think i'm just doing it for attention.

as hard as it may be to believe, some people who claim to be "not like other girls" might not just want attention. they might not want to be quirky. they might just want to feel better about their traits, interests, or whatever they feel sets them apart from everyone else.
