A little idea I had for my Zukka single father’s au! (the one where Senna and Izumi parent trap their dads so they can be sisters, which I may or may not have posted about on here before?? At least not a ton, lmk if you guys would be interested in seeing more of this au)

Anyway, thinking about them having an evening-out-on-the-town date planned, but when Zuko comes to pick Sokka up he can tell how exhausted Sokka is, and can see that he doesn’t really feel like going out anymore.

even though Sokka insists on keeping his word and going out like they planned, Zuko gets him to stay in and they curl up on the couch and have a movie night instead. They make popcorn, get lots of blankets, kick the girls out and tell them to ‘go bonding together’, and maybe Zuko massages the tension out of Sokka’s shoulders before he falls asleep.

They have a better night together than if they’d forced themselves to go do things, and find the beauty in allowing yourself some time to recharge with those you love <3

Fic Ideas I'll write eventually; ICE ICE BABY PART 1

Modern Ice Hockey AU

In which Sokka and Zuko are on rival, semi famous pro hockey teams

They share a flight to one of their games together because Zuko has to rebook his flight without the rest of his team as he was called to see his father's lawyers and has just found out that Ozai (famous business mogul) is about to be arrested without name suppression for several severe counts of tax fraud and malpractice

Zuko unwittingly is put next to Sokka on the flight, is too delirious to recognise that he is literally surrounded by his rival team and doesn't recognise Sokka as he is relatively new to the starting line but gaining popularity amongst fans (insert note to research ice hockey lmao)

Sokka recognises Zuko because he's kind of a big deal both as Ozai's son and as a hockey player

Zuko falls asleep on Sokka and won't wake up, in revenge, Sokka hacks Zuko's phone (his password is 1234, like you're literally famous, get better self-preservation skills) queues rick roll 500 times on his spotify, takes a bunch of selfies and makes them Zuko's locksreen

Zuko is tech illiterate and wakes up to find the random guy he accidentally fell asleep on (humiliating) has changed his lock screen to a selfie of them and he has no idea how to change it back (even more humiliating) to its default setting

Random guy ends up being the best goalie he has gone up against in the league so far and the only thing that's keeping him from a full on meltdown because he's suddenly realised that his father's very public collapse is about to uncover a whole lot of trauma that Zuko is not ready to have shoved in his face by press oh god

In a moment of pure accidental genius, his post game interviewer catches a glimpse of his lock screen ("is... Is that Sokka Anawak pretending to lick your cheek?") and Zuko has an idea;

The scandal of his abusive past is juicy

But the scandal of two rival male ice hockey players secretly dating as they repeatedly face off against each other could be juicier

Zuko looks straight at the camera and says; "Sokka is my boyfriend and he licks my face all the time. Because we're together. Romantically. As boyfriends."

Somewhere in the locker rooms there's a very faint scream

Predictions if there are more seasons of NATLA

Yue will appear again in fox form and have some awkward dialogue with Sokka *obligatory furry joke*

Sometime during the Ba Sing Se arc we’re going to see some brutal death by bending like in episode 1

There’s going to be some kind of ~progressive~ spin on Toph’s parents that downplays the ableism

They’re going to cut out the beach episode

Obligatory Zuko thirst trap scenes when his hair starts growing out

Azula and Zuko will duel in the same courtyard where Ozai burned Zuko and there will be flashbacks to that scene and some monologuing about ~mercy~ and ~weakness~

Zuko’s arc will be hella rushed

They’re going to tamper with the Ba Sing Se political plotlines and come up with something really dumb

A random side character will be revealed as gay in a 5 second throwaway scene

Appa being stolen will not be the reason why they go to Ba Sing Se; instead they’ll go there because Azula will set her sights there after conquering Omashu

Jin will either not exist or will have a scene with Zuko with strong sexual undertones that we will be subjected to through tumblr gifsets for all eternity

(at least) one of the actors will make a joke about a character and/or ship and get #canceled and ruthlessly spammed on Twitter

Both Zukka and Zutara will be baited to some extent both on and off screen and when neither are made canon it will unleash a shitstorm even worse than voltron

Thinking about how Hawky was meant to be a regular presence with Zuko like Momo is, but in canon ended up going to Sokka. Anyways Zukka’s first child is Hawky and I’m going to pretend Hawky somehow got lost from Zuko after the North Pole battle and ended up with Sokka. Zuko’s very worried about Hawky and is shooketh in western air temple to find Hawky happily bonding with Sokka.

ATTENTION ZUKKA NATION THIS ONE IS FOR YOU

as most of us in the ATLA fandom know by now, there's gonna be both an adult gaang movie coming out at some point and the live action netflix show in 2024

and I may be connecting some dots

for the adult gaang movie:

1: we don't know who Izumi's other parent is besides zuko

2: TLOK comics say that zuko worked to outlaw homophobic laws input by sozin

3: we have no idea if sokka and suki stayed together/had kids

4: in the ATLA comics zuko and mai break up, and reconcile- but don't get back together

5: ATLA has always been ahead of its time in terms of representation of POC, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ people, etc.

for the live action

1: it is going to be canon-divergent, this was confirmed because some characters will be appearing in season 1 that weren't introduced until season 2 in the og show-

2: Mike + Brian (atla creators) left the project in 2021 because of "creative differences" when it comes to ideas

3: netflix loves making money off of gay people.

4: when Mike + Brian left, and when the "creative differences" emerged, was AFTER the explosion of zukka-

sidenotes:

there are official, fully canon letters to zuko from uncle iroh about their lives- and therefore, about the gaang, in "The Legacy of The Fire Nation" the one about sokka contains... this.

Why People Hate Momtara/Dadko

I was in the Momtara/Dadko tag and I was surprised how many people are disgusted by it. But I have a theory on why it bothers some people.

It’s a tag that references the fact that both Katara and Zuko act as the Gaang’s kind-of-parents in the show. But it also points out the glaringly obvious difference in emotional maturity in the group. I think that when people start to acknowledge this difference, it might make shipping either Katara or Zuko with the other members of the Gaang feel kind of gross.

Because Aang and Toph both act very much like children (they’re like 11, so I get it) but, despite the fact that Katara is only 3 years older than Aang, she is MILES ahead of him in terms of emotional maturity. Aang deals with his emotions similarly to someone of his own age, like when Katara yells at him in the Waterbending Scroll and he immediately starts getting teary. That’s a normal reaction for a child, but Katara never yells at him again and shoves her own feelings aside for the better of the group (The Western Air Temple). She is constantly having to calm him down when he gets angry or goes into the Avatar State and always supports him emotionally (despite getting none of that back from Aang). On top of that, Aang doesn’t take responsibilities regarding the domestic chores, so it really makes Katara seem like more of a mother or older sister.

I also know that people ship Zukka (I don’t, but I know it’s popular) and, while Sokka acts close to his actual age, Zuko has a bitterness to him that came because of his banishment. Zuko even said in The Beach (S3 E5) that he doesn’t deal with the same problems that normal teenagers have. His trauma made him into someone who doesn’t see himself as a normal teen and we see how Iroh’s influence shaped Zuko whenever he is doing something good. Think about how he interacted with Lee (Zuko Alone) or the emotional maturity he shows when he apologizes to the Gaang (Western Air Temple) or when Katara blames him for her mother’s death (The Southern Raiders).

I just thought about that because it would make sense why it seems to disgust people. Because it’s seen as cute or a way for Katara and Zuko to support each other for a lot of Zutara fans (I’m not making a blanket statement, but there is a reason why it’s popular with a lot of us).

Recent ATLA Fics I’ve Read

What is says on the tin, stories that I’ve read over the last month that I loved and wanted to share. Some of them are new, some old, some popular, some not but I’ve enjoyed them all and want to recommend them. As a heads up they’re either gen or Zukka.

As the newly appointed cultural liaison to Northern Water Tribe, Zuko is the first Fire Nation Citizen to step foot inside the city's walls in nearly a century. He's determined to prove himself—to the Fire Lord and to his father—even if the Water Tribe's spirit-touched prince seems to want nothing to do with him. Moon Spirit Sokka, Zukka and Katara/Yue.

"Prince Zuko," Iroh began, but the prince wasn't having it. He stormed away and before he knew it he was in his quarters, flinging sparks from his fingers and hissing steam. When that passed, he aggressively lit his meditation candles and tried to calm down. It was difficult because unlike combat meditation came easily, which added insult to injury. Gentle flames licked the air and formed in his palms as well. They were warm and soothing, unlike how fire was supposed to be. Instead of stinging his skin with small burns, the flames numbed the scraps on his palms and the aches in his joints. He knew that by the time his meditation ended he would feel invigorated and new.

His heart burned with shame; no wonder father had discarded him. There was no greater disgrace than having a son who was a healer.

I’m obsessed with While Mighty Oaks Do Fall and have read it no less than 3 times.

High Sage Kenji blesses Fire Prince Zuko with the resilience of the reed, who bends in the wind and never breaks. When he is done, Fire Prince Ozai narrows his eyes, seemingly displeased by this blessing. But Kenji does not speak for himself; he is only a vessel.

The newly-crowned Fire Lord Ozai offers his firstborn son to service in the temple. This turns out to be a catastrophic mistake.

But also Life in Eden

Her daughter is five years old when Ursa realises what she and Ozai have been doing to their children. By each choosing one to bestow with their approval, they’re pitting them against one another. Perhaps Ozai is doing it on purpose, but Ursa isn’t. She resolves to heal the damage she has done. In which Ursa tries to be a better parent to Azula, and it doesn’t change very much. And then, quite abruptly, it changes everything.

where the stars do not take sides

When Azula is nine, she becomes an only child. She hears the Fire Lord call for Zuko's life, and in the morning, her mother and brother are gone. Azula may be young, but she isn't naive. She knows what happened to them.

Which makes it all the more surprising when Azula tracks the Avatar down and fights his group of peasant friends, only to find herself staring into an eerily familiar face.

The Sweetheart Swindle

In which Zuko’s advisors won’t stop harassing him about suitable candidates for Fire Lady, and Zuko’s friends hatch an ingenious plan: pretend courtships.

Zuko's soul marks have been regularly burned away since before he knew what they meant. He knows that he cannot be loyal to his father and his nation while also being loyal to a soul family, so he doesn't look for them. Unfortunately, that means that he doesn't know when he's found them.
