Project Help!!
Hi everyone! I'm currently looking for a non-native English speaker (who is over 18) that can take a few tests for me. (They're focused on learners' differences, so they're kind of like personality tests.) Please message me, if you're interested. :)

Duolingo...
Duolingo finally updated on my computer, and I hate it. Once again, if I want to continue using it, I'll have to start over. Does anyone have any recommendations for another language learning app?

A list of German Youtubers (for immersion)!
La Polcevita: German trash TV commentary. Perfect if you'd like to watch German trash TV but without paying or actually watching each episode full-length!
Annikazion: another German trash TV commentator. She has a specific focus on the queer show "Princess Charming".
STRG_F: journalistic mini documentaries about varying topics such as political scandals, the ne0 n4zi scene, etc.
Marvyn Magnificent: makeup related videos, lifestyle, fashion
Oskar Artem: makeup, casual stuff with friends
Joana June: book content, lifestyle, chill vlogs
Julien Bam: high quality storytelling shortfilm (?) video series - or at least that's my attempt at describing his content. It's really incredible what wonderful stuff him and his crew have been putting out for the last years. As I said, it's hard to explain so I recommend you just look into it yourself!
Jucktmichnicht: second channel of Julien Bam where he posts insights into the production of the main channel videos, stuff with friends, reactions, gameplay
Jasmin Gnu: updates and insights on/in her fitness journey, challenges with friends, honest talks on the beauty industry, social criticism. I really admire her for her honesty & will to speak about beauty standards etc. so openly!
Renzo: (tiktok) reactions, challenges/casual stuff with friends, stream highlights
Tonia: Toni and Nia, though now unfortunately inactive, used to make talk videos with friends and guests about varying topics, often things which are usually not so openly discussed. Super fun and interesting to listen to, I highly recommend!
Taddl: a friend of Tonia who does mainly gaming on his channel: He's also a rapper/musician so check that out as well if you want!
Julia Beautx: challenges with friends, also makes music
Coldmirror: I believe this is actually one of the first gen German Youtubers, and has thus been around for as long as I can think. She does animations (often of her own OCs but also of popular characters like Harry Potter & co.), voice acting, and parodies.
Wer stiehlt mir die Show ("Who will steal my show?"): Originally a TV show, however you can also find it uploaded on Youtube! It's in the format of a quiy show where the winning contestant gets to host the next season of the show. Funny, brilliant, show-stopping, never been done before.... doesn't take itself seriously at all, very lovable.
Space frogs: social criticism in the form of commentary, skits and other similar formats
Dagi Bee: lifestyle, vlogs
Anni The Duck: cosplay, anime related content, vlogs, stuff with friends.
I hope this list will be a bit helpful for you to find some German content creators that fit your taste! Good luck with your studies and don't forget that progress isn't linear! If you have trouble understanding these creators don't worry, there will come a time where you'll have improved and can listen to native speakers with ease! <3

Need an English Tutor?
Hi Everyone!
I took a small break from Tumblr, I have been busy with school work (working in a lab and starting the TESOL certificate).
So, in order to prepare for the TESOL certificate, I am currently looking for anyone (who's older than 18) interested in having an English tutor or who just wants to practice their English.
We can practice anything you want! I can even communicate with you via email, Zoom, phone call, etc. - considering whether you want to practice writing/speaking/etc. I can also schedule when you want to practice.
(Just as a heads-up, I will need to ask a few questions before we start and have you take a proficiency test.)
If you're interested, please let me know! I will try my best to help! :) I'll also do everything for free. :)

students emailing teachers vs teachers responding.
me: oh, mighty professor, bearer of knowledge infinitely superior to mine, I humbly beg thee to answer my lowly cries for help interpreting the sacred texts which I, but a small pupil of your elite occupation, dutifully study at your excellency's demand. pray tell, will you condescend to clarify, when the moment pleases you, to which of my meager mathematical calculations does this elaborate visual diagram apply?
professor: 12 & 13 sry bout thst.

Language Partner Needed
Looking for a language partner for Spanish and/or Japanese. I haven't practiced speaking in... a long time. So, if you're a beginner or even really rusty...same. We can even just speak in English... Also if you're okay with me making mistakes, but please correct me.
I'm also a very anxious person, so if you're okay with messaging until I get comfortable, is that okay? I also realized the only person I ever talk to is my mother, and she only speaks English so...TMITMI
Please message me if you're interested! :))
Some info about me: I'm 20, a 3rd year in Uni.

Done w/ Duolingo?
Funny how I used to love Duolingo and recommended it to a lot of people (everything I know about Chinese and German is from this app). Now I'm thinking of no longer using it. The recent updates have been messing up my progress completely. I always have the need to rewrite my notes because they decide to move lessons around. OR for some reason decide to combine 4 lessons into 1 lesson. Right now, I'm mostly frustrated with the German course. The order makes no sense anymore and I've basically lost most of my progress. So, I give up on German with Duolingo for now I guess, I'm just going to use my old notes to study. And then, for some reason, they decided to extend each checkpoint... I don't know if you guys noticed but I organized my notes by section/checkpoints. Duolingo used to have a reasonable amount in each, but now they decided to put about 20 into one. I organized "review cards" for each section and it's all gone. I use the website and I've also heard people complaining about the heart system on the app. I tried it out and found it frustrating and counterproductive. If I'm doing a lesson with new material, I should be able to make mistakes. When I'm first learning something, I'm going to make a ton. So, I hate that the app doesn't allow for this. I feel like Duo is just doing these things to convince people to pay for it, which I am REFUSING to do. People have been making lots of complaints and Duo doesn't seem to be taking any of it into consideration. So, yeah, I'm slowly getting to a point where I'm giving up on it. I still highly advocate for Lingodeer. They are very straightforward (especially with Asian languages), all of my basic Korean and Chinese grammar is from that app (it's great with grammar, definitely better than Duo). I also had to really play around with Duo to LEARN a language. The app basically has people memorizing words/phrases/sentences and not necessarily LEARNING how to communicate effectively. If you look at my notes you can see that. YOU have to do most of the work to LEARN anything from that app.
So, yes, apparently Duo is making these updates to "better" the app and it's not. If anyone has any recommendations for other apps/websites/resources, please please please let me know! I want to try out something new. I've completed most of Lingodeer already. I also use Memrise, which is great in some cases.
And sorry for any possible grammar mistakes in this post, I just typed it all out after "attempting" to restudy German on Duo. :/
Sorry for the long rant, and many people might not agree with me. But it's frustrating to love an app for years and learn how to use it effectively for yourself, only for it to get worse as time goes on.

But super excited. I need feedback on how I teach. Still trying to figure out what I really want to do when I graduate.

i sometimes forget that i can just start learning anything. drawing, fashion, gardening, writing . . . literally anything i want to. everything out there is a learnable skill, and even if it takes awhile to improve, i鈥檓 also allowed to do things simply because i like doing them.
the world feels bright and promising, like there are hundreds of little paths out ahead of me and i can go down as many of them as i鈥檇 like and there will be nice things to see along all of them.

There's 168 hours in a week and I'm a college student.
56 hours go to sleeping if you get 8 hours a night, leaving you with 112 hours awake.
Im required to take 15 credits, which translates to 6 classes for me this semester. That's 6 people demanding time. Hour and 15 per in person class, so about 6 hours to that, give or take. (I have an online class that doesn't meet) so we're at 106 hours for the week.
11 hours of work of week, which is basically nothing and my bank account is showing it (400 dollars a month, half of which goes to my car payment alone) 95 hours for the week.
I do theatre. There's an hour for production meetings and 4 hour rehearsals, 5 days a week (that's an average, my current one is doing 6 days a week some weeks) so that's 21 hours but I'm required to be there an hour early to rehearsal as a stage manager so that makes 26 hours to theatre as a base, not including anything else that comes up with the production outside of those times. Minus all of that, we're at 69 hours left for the week.
Now for homework. Let's say I work on homework from 7pm until 10pm every single day. That's 21 hours of homework per week, 3.5 hours per class for the week. Which I do more some weeks. Leaving us with 48 hours for the week.
Let's say an hour and a half of eating per day, which is 30 minutes per meal. That 10.5 hours for eating per week. Let's say another 30 minutes for prep for each meal. That's another 10.5 hours to food prep. (Both of these numbers are on the lower side. Breakfast doesn't normally take me 30 minutes to make, but dinner tends to be an hour to an hour and a half) that another 21 hours gone. Now we're at 27 hour left for the week.
Let's low ball showering and say that you shower for 30 minutes, 4 times a week. Every other day. That's 2 hours for showering. But 5 minutes for teeth prep once a day (again low balling, brush your teeth twice a day) gives us 35 minutes. Let's add 15 for hair prep, which adds 1.75 hours. 10 minutes for getting dressed, Deodorant, etc. Adds another 1.16. Which is 5.5 hours to taking care of yourself. We're at 21.5 hours.
I got to therapy for an hour, once a week. 20.5 hours.
Average amount of time to deep clean a one bedroom apartment. 2.5 hours. Average amount of time to do a regular cleaning 1.5 hours. Let's say 2 hours so we're between. 18.5 hours left for the week.
Let's say 1.5 of healthy socialization a day (a quick Google search say SIX hours per day is ideal but we obviously don't have time for that) so 10.5 hours per day of healthy socilaztion. 8 hours left.
Oh wait! I forgot transportation. I live and work on campus and walk everywhere so 10 minute travel time to there and back for every in-person class which I have 5 of, plus 10 to my jobs. So let's say about 2.5 hours a week on travel time. Give or take and not including any travel that I do on the Friday and the weekends, and limiting myself to go from home to work or class and then back home again.
We're left with 5.5 hours.
We didn't talk about grocery shopping. Or taking time for yourself to journal or consider your mental and emotional state or something similar. Or taking time to do something you legitimately enjoy like reading, crafting, or watching TV or movies. Lowballed a lot of things time wise like socializing, taking care of your personal hygiene, and the potential amount of time it takes to clean your apartment. We didn't even include working out or going to religious services (I don't do either of those, although I would like to start working out) low balled my theatre commitment (I didn't even mention tech week or performances). There's nothing about child, elder, or pet care if you have them. (I dont) I'm an honors student; there isn't anything about that commitment or a commitment to my senior project. This doesn't include any medical situations of any kind- picking up prescriptions, doctor visits, changing of menstrual products, dentist appts, etc. Nothing about time spent on getting gas, writing or cashing checks or any financial prep. There's nothing about romantic relationships, which could fall under socialization but I would argue it could be it's own category. On that note, nothing about sexual release either.
And this doesn't factor in any disability, mental or emotional or phsycial, that someone might have.
When do these people expect us to get shit done.
How are we as college students supposed to do all of these things and still be healthy.
And on top of the physical time limitations, there's the:
-financial stress. I physically do not make enough to cover my bills right now with my current jobs. But where do I pick up hours?? What do I give up so I can make more money?
-grade stress. I'm an honors student who is required to get a certain GPA to keep my funding. Not to mention personal achievement. I get As or I feel like a failure.
-overall academic stress. Shortest answer? Deadlines. Deadlines. Deadlines.
-past or current trauma. I have childhood trauma. Everyone I know and their mother has childhood trauma.
-Global pandemic where you're likely to get sick any time you step out the door
-Shitty ass political time, still fucked up from Trump and not doing much better under biden. I'm part of the LGBT community. Then you have the black, Hispanic, Asian, Muslim, Jewish, communities; the list could continue on.
-Texas is pulling its bullshit again with banning abortion and taking away people's rights. (As a reproductively healthy female who doesn't want children, this and it's aftereffects are terrifying; and I am just one of many)
I am tired.
I am tired of this bullshit. And peoples utter lack of understanding of what it's like, even from those that literally WENT to college. Just because you struggled through it doesn't mean we shouldnt try and make it better, which completely ignores the unprecedented time we are in with the pandemic.
There is 168 hours in a goddamn week and I am tired.
There is 168 hours in a goddamn week and I am one of many who deals with this shit.
And the ironic part is I took time out of my homework to type all of this out because I'm so goddamn pissed off.
