There is no place like Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Pointfive and I are back in our favorite city. Everything feels right again, but everything feels wrong too.
There are dramatically more refugees in the city, and the situation is only getting worse. Croatia is not allowing passage for the refugees to continue westward, so they are stuck here in BiH. It’s been raining heavily and the frigid winter is fast approaching. I cannot even begin to imagine the torment of sleeping in tents at the refugee camps, or waiting restlessly and anxiously for what life will throw at them next.
Barely recovered from the war in the early 90s, BiH is definitely not equipped to deal with the refugee crisis. However, having lived through a horrific war that created many refugees, most of the people here have an intimate perspective and much-needed compassion when handling the crisis and dealing with the refugees.
Tonight, we celebrate our return to the city we love even more. Tomorrow, we will go to a public kitchen to see what ingredients or supplies we can get for them, and how else we can help. Goodnight from #Sarajevo, #BosniaAndHerzegovina. - Harry

The first night the poor puppy was at the hospital, two nights ago, he got a deep wash, a blow dry and a restful night of sleep. He must have been an angel because the vets let him sleep outside of the cage by himself last night. And what happens when you leave a seven-month-old puppy with rolls and rolls of paper towels? (See photo!)
The blood test on the first night found that puppy has anemia, was full of parasites, and was suffering from severe infection. Yesterday, he also tested positive for Ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease. He’s on antibiotics. His injured leg is not amputated yet because the vets want to see if it can be salvaged. He’s actually putting some weight on that leg, so there may be hope. Thank you for your kinds words and concern for the poor puppy! - Harry #Berat #Fier #Albania
Photo courtesy of the vet because the hospital is about an hour away and I haven’t seen puppy since that night.

I hope your injured and infected foot doesn’t have to be amputated. If I don’t see you again, know that I will pay for all your medical bills unlike some tourists who skip town after dropping off stray animals here at the hospital. I am so sorry for your pain. You’re a good Good Boy. - Harry #Fier #Berat #Albania

Visiting hours to the #BeratCastle are over, but cars are still entering the fortress. That’s because people actually live in the citadel within this 13th-century fortress. How cool is that! #Berat #Albania

Wishing all my Jewish friends a peaceful year ahead. On this #YomKippur, I’d like to share with you what I learned from Mrs. Angjlina Vrusho at the Solomon Museum in Berat. During WWII, Muslim and Christian residents of Berat hid Jewish people in their homes. Some were their neighbors and some were refugees from neighboring countries. They did not lose even one Jewish person to the Nazis. Even though Albania was occupied by the Nazis, her Jewish population actually increased during the Holocaust. Now, that’s a country on the right side of the horrific tragedy. - Harry #Berat #Albania
