whenever i feel insignificant i think about the fact that the universe is so vast and endless and infinite to the point where we can't even grasp its very concept ... and yet how intricate and beautifully accidental must it be for mangos to exist and for us to enjoy them and to be aware of the fact that we're enjoying them, or for two people's hands to fit together, or for someone to bake bread for someone else. there is no end to space, and yet we have favorite songs, and we tend to little plants, and we leave our footprints on the sand until the waves wash them away, and we help bees back outside with our silly cups and pieces of paper !! existence is so miraculous & we are here & small & coincidental, and so i love & love & love

i feel like adding that the reason this quote so appeals to me and encapsulates what i think about poetry is because i am convinced that poetry is not and can never be a product of mere solitude. even if you write to express loneliness, the feeling is derived by a certain lack of connection. even if you write only and completely for yourself, you are still writing within the world, you are still writing words that to even be able to weave inside a poem you have had to learn them from other people who have in turn also had to learn them from other people, words of which the precise connotation for you comes from a larger context in which you've heard then being used by those around you. your poetry is a product of so much history, of changes and little evolutions in language, of emotions caused by engaging with the world. and therefore, in poetry, you are never alone with the page. when you write a poem, you are of course expressing your own voice, but you are also expressing the voice of every person, tree, cloud, body of water, grief, animal and piece of art you have come across. poetry is a record of togetherness and of connection.
when remco campert said "poetry is an act of affirmation. i affirm that i live, that i do not live alone."

i'm so obsessed with the idea of living in a big city where i can choose to be invisible and disappear between the crowds and live for myself and have my favorite little corner in a cafe and go to musea and galleries and appreciate art and architecture for hours uninterrupted and go to all the places where literary figures got inspiration for their poetry and their works and stroll down the streets by myself and look at people who pass by and invent little stories for them in my head and live in a small apartment where i can write by my open window until really late at night and sometimes stop and listen to the bustle of life on the streets below and i can also choose to be part of that bustle myself and part of a circle of artists who share a studio and support each other and go to social gatherings where i meet people who are as passionate about art and poetry as i am and exchange ideas and be inspired and have specific corners and monuments and cafes where we gather, and hold symposia stuffed in someone's tiny apartment and in general live as an active part of the urban creative scene ??? just ,,, living in a city where i get to see the entire assembled past and present existence of humanity ???

It’s a little on the ridiculous side, but every time I see your profile I automatically think “Hmmm. Oscar Wilde.” and then, “Perhaps I will challenge God.”
I just thought you should know.
these are the only thoughts i wish to provoke with my blog, thank you

like yeah i read poetry to understand rigorous analyses written by scholars who study a poet's work for the majority of their lives and draw conclusions based upon meticulous understanding of said poet in which they demonstrate the complexity of human existence and the profundity of human emotion but mainly i read poetry because i'm sexy and cool

oh to stroll through the old part of the city center wearing a long coat with a cup of coffee and a small volume of beat poetry looking for a bookstore to lose yourself in or a cozy corner to sit and write or just aimlessly admiring the architecture and making mysterious disappearances around street corners ,,, i miss it

if i may add, there's that great post about how you really don't have to like all classic books just because they're considered classics; i think it would be rather fitting here. not liking tolstoy doesn't make you stupid or even less of a literature lover than someone who has all of his books memorized! just because a piece of art is considered "objectively" timeless or genius really doesn't mean you have to like it. moreover, why would you spend time reading a book (or occupying yourself with any type of art) you find boring just to be able to say you've read it when there are thousands of books out there that might shake you to the core with wonder? the world is so delightful because of the abundance of opinions on art, because everyone creates and appreciates different things. let's not kill that!
My "friend" told me she found war and peace boring. Should I block her or feed her drain cleaner?
I think you should enjoy a nice cup of some calming chamomile tea
