I've been obsessed with manhwas about contract engagements and villain love interests and dukes of the north, and saw there was a Huntlow duke AU fanfic, so I wanted to put my own spin on the trope. This is what I originally drew for my application to @huntlowfanzine last summer and did not fully render it until now haha

I am well aware that Athena is petty in mythology. Hell, she's even petty in Percy Jackson (see every instance here she discusses Percabeth and how she doesn't approve of the Son of Poseidon). Yes, I am aware of all of this.

SHE SENT THE FUCKING *CHIMERA* AFTER HER DAUGHTER, LETTING IT INTO HER *OWN TEMPLE*, TO PUNISH ANNABETH FOR NOT STOPPING PERCY'S IMPERTINENCE.

ANNABETH. HER PRIDE AND JOY. THE MOST FORMIDDABLE DEMIGOD ALIVE WHO WILL ONE DAY ACHIEVE A QUEST THAT NO CHILD OF ATHENA HAS COMPLETED IN *TWO THOUSAND YEARS*. SHE PUNISHED HER FOR SOMETHING *HER FRIEND DID*.

This shouldn't make me as mad as it does, but I'm someone who proudly declared Athena my favorite goddess when I was in middle school (before I read PJO) and kept her as my favorite for a very long time. She has toppled a very long way from that throne in my heart and Miss Ma'am, you had *better* make it up to your baby girl or I will be throwing these dam hands.

Just a little note for everyone that I feel needs to be said, Medusa's story in PJO follows one of the Ovid variations in which she was transformed after banging Poseidon in one of Athena's temples. That's why Medusa hesitates to go after Percy: he looks like his dad. It's stated BY ANNABETH that Medusa appears to have a soft spot for him. We will likely be seeing this in the show.

The ORIGINAL GREEK has her as a monster from birth to death, and I feel like this is incredibly important to remember that Greek mythology isn't a monolith, it's a scattered collection of stories that we only have a small percentage of because of linguistic drift and the inevitable loss of knowledge that came with time.

Edited to add: with the way they have Medusa set up so far, I think she may make Percy question his mom's thing about monsters not looking like monsters. The Medusa we got previews of doesn't look like a monster. She looks like a gorgeous woman, the kind of princess a hero might 'rescue'.

Just... food for thought.

A Personal Farewell to a Fic

So...

I've done these before, usually as a last note for a fic I did very few author's notes on, but I've never done one on Tumblr and most people probably don't want to hear this, but fuck it, I'm writing it.

This is my personal farewell to Bride of the Monster Duke, a fic that to this day is my longest and most popular and will probably remain so for quite a while. It's a fic that has a lot of meaning to me as a project and a symbol of how far I've come in a decade of writing fanfiction, and looking back on those ten years I've definitely come a long way from that lonely thirteen-year-old writing Warriors and Gravity Falls fanfic in her room.

And honestly, to that thirteen-year-old, I wanna say you've got this. Don't stop writing, don't stop creating, don't give up on anything because one day, you're gonna write things that people will love. You're finding yourself in your work, someone that people will love and care about deeply if you just take the time to put it out there and find those people.

Anyway, this is about a current work done by me in my twenties, not soothing my inner child, heh.

I started BOTMD as a personal project last May, inspired by a love of romance fantasy manhwa, at the time not realizing that not only would it become my most popular story ever but it would lead me to meeting friends online, people I probably never would've met otherwise. Star (love you so much, funky little internet-sis) and I were in the same server, but the same could not be said of Storm (love you too, big internet-sibling!). I only got into contact with them because I put this particular work out and they read it. And that's not even mentioning all the artists who for some unknown reason thought my writing was good enough to make art for it.

I was utterly flabbergasted with how much love BOTMD received, and I cannot be more grateful than I already am for everyone who's ever read the fic. Whether you found it on day one or you're finding it a year from now, everyone who's given the story this level of love and support deserves the biggest fucking internet hug I can give.

I was reading Monster Duke recently, and I noticed Gus didn’t have that large of a role. The fic is great, one of my favorites in the fandom, but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of Gus. I was just wondering why that is?

Honestly we got really caught up in the plot and we forgot about Gus. It's unfortunate because we also love Gus, but we're ADHD dumbasses who tried to bring him back into the story then promptly forgot him again.

We're making up for it, though, our new fic Legends of Gravesfield has Gus front and center and a large part of that is to make up for our egregious oversight. It also focuses on the Gus and Luz friendship which hardly anybody focuses on.
