Quick angsty 3rd/4th year wolfstar drabble. Happy valentine’s day!
(try and listen to midnight love by girl in red while reading this!) please excuse any punctuation and grammar mistakes djdjjs
“Okay... how about I buy you Mars?” he asked and his grey blue eyes scanned the scarred skin of the other.
“That’s impossible,” the other said with a chuckle, lighting up his normally sulky features.
“Why?” he asked, naivety dominating his voice, “I’ve got enough money.”
“You can’t just buy planets, Sirius - that’s, that’s not how it works.”
Sirius frowned. Seemingly thinking hard he brought a hand up into his hair and squeezed it shortly before turning to face the other;
“I can make it work. For you I will. I can buy you the moon and all of the stars, but-“
His eyes became unfocused, “I suppose you don’t like the moon and stars very much.”
Remus eyed him warily - an unreadable expression embellished on his face.
Sirius was still turned towards him, not quite daring to look at him. Despite this, Remus could make out eyes drowning somewhere between uncertainty and regret.
A sudden emotion, filling up his veins with a fuzzy, warm tingle overcame him. Even though he tried his best, he couldn’t quite name it yet.
“I’d love to have the stars and the moon, actually.”
Remus moved a little closer to the boy beside him, decreasing the space between both their bodies.
They were sitting infront the window in the empty Gryffindor common room, staring at the clear night sky, longing for the comfort it somehow managed to offer. The prickling fire the only audible sound besides their occasional, whispered words.
It was a rather privat moment, not meant for the curious eyes and ears of anyone.
It also wasn’t the first time they met in the common room in the middle of the night.
Normally, it was Remus who came down first to read, drink tea or simply sit around - the pain in his bones forcing him to spend his nights awake. He was tired but his aching body refused to let him drift of into sleep.
After, Sirius often followed suit - plagued by insomnia and nightmares his nights weren’t exactly pleasant either.
But it was rather the concern for Remus getting him out of bed at ungodly hours.
Often they just sat there - reading, playing chess or even catching up on the homework they didn’t manage to do during daytime.
Only rarely they talked.
Today, it seemed, was the first time in forever where their time wasn’t spend with just silently accompanying each other.
“Can I ask you something?” Sirius looked up and then pointed at the night sky, the moonlight illuminating his slim finger.
He didn’t wait for Remus response,
“Does it- does it hurt a lot?”
Lowering his hand again he was now staring at the moon with sorrowful eyes, his dark circles hanging low on his tired face.
Tomorrow would be full moon again.
Remus thought about the question for a moment before answering; on one hand he appreciated his friend caring but on the other he wondered whether he should just lie. If he told the truth Sirius would, without a doubt, be worried or worse, pity him.
He didn’t need anyone’s pity, in the end he gained nothing from it anyway.
“A little, yes.”
It wasn’t exactly a lie but it surely hurt a lot more than just “a little” getting all the bones in your body broken, waking up with bloody scars and sore limbs every 28 days.
Sirius probably knew all of this already, though.
Remus therefore couldn’t help but wonder why he would even ask.
“Can I- I wish I could make it easier for you somehow,” he said and lowered his head to look at the hands resting on his lap.
“You don’t deserve this, Moony. None of it.”
With that he glanced upwards and his eyes met Remus hazel ones.
Oh, how beautifully Sirius’ eyes shined in brightness of the moon.
Remus wasn’t sure what exactly had caused it but he could feel heavy teardrops suddenly beginning to blur his vision.
Quickly, before Sirius could take notice of his watery eyes, he turned around and smiled a smile not quite reaching them.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
He hated showing any sort of emotion in front of others but man, Sirius Black was making it exceptionally hard for him not to.
“You know, the reason I offered to get you the moon,” Sirius let out a barked chuckle, “-is because then we could place a lot of dynamite on there and-“
A crying laugh echoed through the common room.
Remus had just managed to calm down and, Sirius the git, had to go and make him bawl like a baby again.
“Sirius Black, you’re absolutely mental.”
Remus turned to face the other whose gaze was already on him.
Tears were now pouring out Remus eyes like waterfalls. Surely, he would cringe and regret it in the morning, but, for now, he didn’t care if Sirius saw them. Maybe it was nightly fatigue or perhaps the approaching moon that made him do it. He wouldn’t, even years after this particular occurrence, be able to figure out what had caused it.
Sirius face glistened and he raised one side of his mouth slightly.
Without much hesitation he brought one hand to Remus cheek and wiped away the tears.
And, even though Remus felt weak and vulnerable, Sirius soft hand on his scarred skin seemed to fit like the last missing piece of a puzzle.
“It’s okay, Moony.”
And, for a moment, it truly was.
