Thoughts on 11x06

I had to come back to type this after the episode. I was gonna wait to post until more people are active but everyone’s safety is more important than notes. This was really hard for me to watch. It took me two hours because I kept needing a break. It’s a tough one yall. It’s heartbreaking and really brought out issues I didn’t know I was still dealing with until I reacted so badly to some stuff. Take care of yourselves and I’m here if you need to talk. I’ll have timestamps for major tws in another post coming right after this. I just gotta go back and get the end of those scenes. I only go the time they started.

That took me nearly two hours to watch. Yeah I usually pause to type but I had to take long breaks after the hard scenes. It was a really hard episode to watch. A lot darker than it has been. I’m not really okay right now. It was emotional but a really good episode overall.

PARALLELS, CALLBACKS, FORESHADOWING... DETAILS..

throughout WV & MCU:

First look at Westview Wanda driving through WestView as she first arrives in reality - the town & the people seem in a non-happy state (people alone & depressed, town in ruins, she alone) in 1x08 flashback VS Wanda & Vision driving through WestView as they first arrive in the TV freality (everyone fake-happy & not alone, buildings & businesses flourishing in 1x01

Wanda creating new "life" Wanda's birthing screams & energy spending: Wanda "giving birth" to Vision in ep 8 VS Wanda giving birth to the twins in ep 3. I feel like in a way her subconcious was reminding her of the "birthing pains"

Heart & abbreviating The heart drawn on the wall calendar on the date Friday, August 23rd was an abbreviation & was referring to Vision's boss & his wife coming to dinner in 1x01... when neither could remember the significance of the heart or date. Also... "Who needs to abbreviate?" (when theyre both superheroes) VS The heart Vision drew on the property deed of the land he bought for them. Next to the text "to grow old in" - V. (abbreviating his name) in the 1x08 flashback VS The heart on the calendar on the Date Wednesday the 10th in the opening credits for Wandas sitcom freality in 1x07 VS The heart on top of a building in the 1x02 episode sitcom intro

Skeleton in the closet In 1x01 Vision tells his boss Mr. Hart that no, he does not have a skeleton, when he's asked if he has a skeleton in his closet VS In the 1x02 sitcom opening credits we see Vision go through walls & floor/ceiling. As he moves downstairs from the closet we see wht appears to be a spider & spiderweb there. And... bones.

Flourish! Vision as the magician Illusion using the phrase "fllourish!" for his magic tricks (that Agatha messes up & Wanda corrects) in the TV-freality in 1x02 VS Wanda after seing the state of the town & people (that to her seem like her own experience) making the place flourish (alive again)! 1x08 flashback

Stop it! Ms. Hart keeps saying "Stop it!" (with more & more concerned voice) as Mr. Hart chokes in 1x01 VS Wanda keeps saying "Stop it!" (with more & more concerned voice) when she sees Visions body being dismantled...like a machine in the 1x08 flashback.

To grow old in... Vision's plan was for them to move from big city to a small town, build a house & start a family/life together. Grow old together (even if he as a synthezoid presumbly doesn't grow old like Wanda as human would. Though maybe his human form could & perhaps she as Nexus being/witch can/will live for centuries..but they didn't know it back then?) as he had planned their life together in IW (making me suspicious if they got engaged or something...) as revealed in WV 1x08 flashback to the property deed that lead Wanda to WestView VS Wanda creating a sitcom world where decades change...she literally created an alternate reality where they live his plan for them..they grow old together..in a small town... as seen throughout the WV show...

Watching sitcoms on TV: Wanda & Vision family watching TV every night before going to bed in Wanda's TV freality on WV VS Wanda watching TV with her family in Sokovia - the last happy memory before trauma hit her (1x08 flashback scene) VS Wanda & Vision first bonding at the Avengers compound while watching TV together (1x08 flashback scene). He's learning "being human" with her help & she's learning about dealing with her trauma with his help.

Traditional Sokovian greeting In 1x01 Vision saves the day by calling Wanda covering the bosses eyes with her hands " a traditional sokovian greeting" when she thinks she's welcoming her husband home VS in the 1x08 flashback to her childhood we see that her mother covers her eyes with her hands the same way. Yet another subconcious detail from her real life.

Made-up superhero names: Hayward asking JImmy in 105 is Wanda has an alias or nickname “No funny nickname?” VS in 1x08 Agatha giving her a “nickname/alias when she says "...and that makes you The Scarlett Witch" ... Only...in this context it seems more like royal title than a superhero nickname.

Shakespeare Vision quoting Shakespeare in WV 1x02 VS Shakespeare mention related to Trevor Slattery in IM3

Universe of Colour

The paint cans that Wanda & Vision use to paint the nursery in WV episode 1x03 are Simser brand (crew member), but they also feauture other text, like "universe of color"VS the colours of each charactes magic...will make up a whoe spectrum/rainbow...especially in finale battle...

All these colours combined...give you the colours of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet)...so do expect there to be a rainbow above WestView...at the end of WV, cause that would tie into the coours of the different magic + it never raining/always being sunny in sitcom reality as it does rain outside the reality...and the spectrum (Monica's powers) of colours of a rainbow appear to us when sunshine + rain are combined

Wanda's magic powers are red (like aether/reality stone...and she can warp reality, even though her powers were amplified by the yelllow mind stone).

Vision's magic powers are yellow (just like the Mind Stone that gave him life)

Monica's magic powers are blue ("thanks to her connection to Captain Marvel, who got her powers form the blue space stone?")

Agatha's powers are purple...with a bit of black mixed to it (like the power stone is...but she seems to absorb others powers that are other colour: the blue magic of the other witches in her coven & the red magic of Wanda's)

Billy's/Wiccan's powers are ???

Tommy's/Speed's powers are ???

Fietro's/Quicksilvers powers are ???

Dr.Strange's powers are orange (like the soul stone, even if his task is to protect the green time stone)

Dottie's colour is yellow...it seems...based on her flowers.

Mind-reading & Visions of the future/past Wanda reading Tony's mind in & showing him a vision of the future trama...amplifying his deep fears about not being able to save the world & Ccommenting how she didnt need to do much, because he was so ful of self doubt, fear & all that.. in A2: AoU VS Agatha reading Wanda's mind & showing her visios of her past trauma...amplifying her deep sorrow & commenting how she is so full of self doubt & hope that it didnt take much to trick her with Fietro.... in WV 1x08

I just (can't) feel you

When the Mind Stone keeps "hurting" Vision, Wanda "reads the stones mind" says "I just feel you" to Vision in the beginning of A3:IF VS As Wanda is destroying the Mind Stone & Vision is dying, too, he tels her "You could never hurt me. I just feel you" at the end of A3:IW VS When Wanda is trying to connect to/with Vision on the table at SWORD, she cannot & she says "I can't feel you" in the 1x08 flashback scene.

Visions of the dead Wanda seeing Vision dressed as the WV character, but looking exactly like when he died in A3: IW w. the mindstone ripped out... in WV 1x0? VS Wanda seeing Fietro dressed as the WV character, but looking exactly like when he died in A2AoU w. the bulletholes in the shirt in WV 1x06 VS Peter seeing Tony as an Iron-Zombie rising from the grave in the illusion Mysterio created to play tricks on him in SM2: FFH

The fallen pose Vision in A3: IW after Thanos killed him VS Vision in WV ep 1x06/1x07 after exiting the hex & faling apart VS Monica in WV ep 1x03 /1x04 after being thrown out from the hex VS Nat in A4:E after falling on Vormir...

Half of the universe When we see Wanda drive through Westview as she first arrives we see that she sees only half of the people - everyone she sees is alone... it's like half of the people are still missing (even if the blip happened & the missing are returned). Westview looks like the world during the 5 years she missed, half of everything gone, people missing their otehr half. This is excty how she is feeling & exactly what happened to her in A3: IW...Thanos first took half of her away by kiling Vision, and when she returned her world was still in the same state...she did not get the happy ending (that Tony talked about in his goodbye message & what the news report on screens...about happy family reunions)...her worls is still in ruins...figuratively & literally... as is WestView...at first glance...to her. The state of WV in the flashback represents the state of the universe during the five years she was gone.

SNAP "Sugar Snaps" - the name of the breakfast cereal Wanda eats in 1x07 VS word SNAP is on a billboard for Lagos towels in WV 1x08 flashback VS Thanos snapping his fingers in A3: IW & wiping half of he universe "out of existence" VS Agnes snaps her fingers in 1x08 as the illusion fades..and she sits in audience VS Agens’ line “this menu can be done in a snap” in ep 1x01

Life under a dome/hex (bubble): Wakanda is located inside a giant protective dome/bubble - an "invisible" energy field protects it & the barrier stops intruders VS Wanda creates a giant protective dome/bubble (hex-shaped) around WestView - an "invisible" energy field that stops people from entering or exiting...

STAGES OF GRIEF The show is abotu the past, and the future. About different realities. About grief, loss & moving on. About the stages of grief. If you pay attention you can see references to eaach stage in Wanda’s behaviour throughout the episodes...

10 = X The age when Wanda's powers manifested... probability hex...was age 10 VS When Billy & Tommys powers manifested... mind reading & speed they were 10 VS 10 = X (roman numerals) = X-gene (mutants)

Hero or Villain "Be good" - Vision to Wanda, WV 1x06 VS "I can be good" - Agatha & "No, you cannot" - Agatha's mom, WV 1x08 flashback

Wanda VS Tony "Don't let them make you the villain" - Monica & "Maybe I already am" - Wanda. WV 1x07 = The world sees Wanda as a villain (after Lagos, during the Hex), & she's struggled with this all her life. She is afraid of her own powers, just like regular people are. She doesn't fully understand them either. Vision was the only one who didn't see her as the villain. She is punishing herself for her mistakes. In many ways her backstory, and story arc, and mental state are very similar to Tony's.

Grief Monica & Wanda - their experiences are similar. Both blipped, lost loved one...twice. Both grieving... The way Monica describes the feeling she felt when under Wanda’s mind control = is the same as Wanda explained her feelings to Vision in the Flashback to Avengers compound “drowning...”

Control vs Chaos Wanda can & does control everyone & everything within the hex, except: Vision (though she cerated him & he is essentially part of her, she can't control him), the Twins (she can't control them with her powers, and they have powers of their own, separate from hers and Visions), Fietro (who is under Agathas spell...in a way) & Agatha (who plays along), and later on Monica. Everything & everyone follows her script & directions...exctly, but not these superpowered individuals.

People think that order & chaos are opposites - Vision, A2: AoU

Wanda & Vision are connected in many ways. They've been connected even before they met. Both got powered up by the Mind Stone. Which awakened the magical powers in Wanda & gave life to Visions corporal form. They are also connected via Tony Stark: Wanda's trauma was caused by Tony's past mistakes & Vision's humanity was created by Tony’s attempts to build a better future. They are so much of the same MIND STONE. He's science & order and she's magic & chaos... two sides of the same thing... Vision started out as Jarvis & was supposed to be all about order (he started out as pure science...trech). Jarvis is in many ways Tony's best creation - he's all good. But Wanda is chaos..that she needs to learn to control (Agatha didn’t find a teacher, Wanda should...)

It’d be too long if I’d inlude also the commercials & the group chants “this is all for the children” (not expained yet, will be ...soon) So a lot is missing from this list...

Going Under

Paring: Mostly Steve Rogers x Reader; little Clint Barton x Reader

Warnings: angst, fluff, out of character acting, probable smutt in later chapters, sad reader, broken, sweet ending.

Summary: You work as head oversight for the Avengers. After a party and a little kiss, you start crushing on Steve. Only an event from you’re rookie years, is sabotaging the possibility of your crush to evovle into something more.

A/N: Thanks for all your likes, it’s great to recieve them! @collinsstanharbour thanks for you comments on all the chapters. Well, I thouhgt chapter 6 was long, but guess again…Almost 3100 words…. The story is evolving and soon we will arrive at the point of present time and then…

Chapter 7: Imperfection

With one swift movement you stand up, surprising the two man. Bucky and Steve look at you, you stare wide-eyed at Steve. “For how long have you been sitting there?” you ask. Steve looks dazed at you, it took a moment to register you were standing, facing him. He was stammering a reply, impatience gets the best of you and fire another question at him.

“What the fuck are you doing here. Were you eavesdropping?” Steve still lookes shocked at you, not answering your question. You cross your arms and glare at him.

“No, uh, I don't..... well.” Steve stammers, scratching the back of his neck, a red blush coloured all over his face. He has never felt so caught, out of place or guilty, a rush of emotions take over, when the guilt finally wins. Hearing your story so far makes him feel stupid and naive. He should have known better, then to believe the lies they told him.

“Well what is IT?” cocking an eyebrow, still standing defensively, starting to tap you fingers on your arm. Steve feels nervous, as if he was on trail. Exhaling deeply, he answers “Yes, I was listening to what you were telling bucky..Its just.. I wanted...”

“For how long?” you ask, shifting your weight. “How long, Steve?” draging the V in his name. “When you told Bucky about you and Clint.” Steve looks a little guilty at you. How could he let you know he was willing to listen. He was an idiot for taking so long. For doubting you, for not asking your side of the story. He let you down and know he had the price to pay. He was willing to, as long as you started trusting him again.

“y/n, I saw your reaction in the meeting. I realised it too late. But if all off it where true, you wouldn't look the way, you were sitting in that chair.” Looking at you, trying to make eye-contact, read your emotions. How he hoped you two would reconnect. He was such a fool for letting all those lies separate you two.

“How did I look Steve?” your voice cynical and thick with emotions. Steve starts walking towards you, with every step he takes, a characterization leaves his mouth. His eyes full of emotions and regret. With every word he speaks, your wall crumbles a little further. Stopping in front of you, he looks you in the eyes, resting his hands on your locked arms. “I’m sorry it had to get so far, before I realised your the person I always though you were. Not the person people trying to let me believe you are. Y/N, I was a fool for letting things as rumours and doubt smutter the relation we could have.” Steve tightens his grip on you, searching your eyes, do you understand what he’s trying to say. Speaking these relieving words, break you. You start sobbing uncontrollably, Bucky was the first person to hear you out, and as it turned out, Steve had listened all this time. He finally realised his mistake. Steve took you in his arms, hugging you tightly, stroking your hair. “y/n it’s okay, I want to hear the rest of your story. Lets figure this out. Make and end in all these misunderstanding. What was the next thing you wanted to tell Bucky.” Steve lets go of you and sits opposite from you. “I'm here till the end.” he tells you acknowledging.

Drying your eyes with your sleeve, you swallow and answer with a raspy voice, “The mission, I wanted to tell Bucky about the mission. Especially the one that went wrong.”

Sitting at the bar, you listen to the music, it was just as depressing as you felt. Ordering another drink you repeat the steps in your head. For this mission you went into hyperdrive, overanalyzed the situation. Making two alternatief plans, to have as low collateral as possible. What went wrong. How could there be so much collateral, killing three civilians. There had to be a reason, the Avengers trusted you and your team. Following your plan and advise. And still things went awry. You didn't get it. Where did it go wrong?

----------- A few hours earlier-----------

“Overwatch, there to many people around us, we can’t solve this. Not without killing a few innocent people.” Natasha spoke through the communicator.

“Romanov, we don’t see what you see, is something wrong with the drone?” Lexi asked.

“No, all green lights are on, camera is moving with us.” Natasha answered.

“Owen, look at the dashboard. Make sure every cable and bud is as they should be.” You ordered him, pacing through the room. After the Avengers touched ground, nothing went as planned. For days there weren’t any civilians in sight and now there were. It looked like someone was forcing these people to be there.

“Captain, are you inside?” you asked Steve. “We’re inside, Wanda, Falcon take the second floor, Hawkeye the third. Be careful, let us know when you see Rumlow. Don’t engage, wait till Agent Carter and I are with you. Overwatch guide us.” Steve commands, waiting for your answer.

“We will activate the minidrones, Wanda, your drone is connected with Lexi, she will guide you and be you’re extra pair off eyes. Falcon, Callie’s drone comes with you. Avery, go with Hawkeye, keep you’re eyes open. Captain, my drone will come with you and Agent Carter. Be careful, I do not know how, but there’s something off.” You reply, what was going on.

“y/n, what do you see?” Lexi asks, looking at you. “I see nothing out of the ordinary, but it just doesn't seem right.” You comply.

“Overwatch, do you hear that?” Sam and Steve ask at the same time. “Hear what?” Callie ask. “That high….” before Sam can finish the sentence there’s a big explosion. Your drones go offline and the earpiece of Clint, Wanda, Sam and Sharon go offline. The only persons you’re connected to were Natasha and Steve. “Captain, Agent Romanov, do you copy?” asking frantically, what the fuck did just happen?

Laughs interrupted your thoughts. Looking at the couple on your left, you smile sadly to yourself. It would be nice to have someone on your side. Where you to much focused on Steve? You divided your attention evenly over the team that was in the mission. You could separate emotion from work. It was time to stop the self loathing and act like a teamleader. Drinking you’re glass empty, you decide to go back to the compound and start analyzing the mission, hopefully you could pinpoint the problem.

Entering the communications room, you see Lexi and Owen filling the papers. “He you, your back?” Lexi asks half smiling. You nod and sit at your desk.

“Owen, could you run diagnostics and e-mail them as soon as the’re ready? Lexi, I would like the calculation of the colleteral. Where are Callie and Avery?” asking the both of them while looking at your screen.

“y/n, it’s late, you’re sure you want to do this now?” Owen ask, concern al over his face. The last time he saw you like this, was when you started at the beta team.

Looking at Owen, determination in your eyes, “Yes, I want to start analyzing now. I know you’re tired. We’ve all participated in the same mission, I’m too. But as soon as you have run diagnostics you can go too sleep. I need the numbers. Where are Callie and Avery?” asking irritated you look at Lexi and Owen.

“Avery is downstairs in medbay and Callie is resting. Within two hours she will switch with me. We figured, you would want to start with analyzing as soon as possible.” Lexi glances at you, you smile back “Thank you” leaves soft your lips.

What a team, even when you had a mental breakdown, they would think with you, take the shit you throw at them. “That’s why where a team, we will find the problem y/n.” Owen says walking towards you. “So head up, boss, you’re going to figure it out.” Owen squeezes your shoulder. Letting out a loud breath, “I will, I will figure it out.”

“Well, there are a few injured within the Avengers. Wanda has a concussion, Clint a few flesh wounds and one deep cut on his side and Sam has a head wound that needs to be stitched. Steve, Sharon and Natasha have mild injuries.” Avery says while walking in, he stops in his tracks when he sees you. He squats beside you, looking you in the eye, “You did everything you could, do not blame yourself, don't carry that burden. There is something wrong. You did everything wright and were going to prove that.”Avery encourages you, you feel your eyes water. “We will” you chocke and turn back to analyzing this mission.

Hours and hours pass as you go through papers, plans and even video footage, but can't find a thing. The team takes turns sleeping, so that they can keep analyzing with you, but are to tired to go on at some point. It’s 7 in the morning when you stand alone between all the papers lay out. You lay your hands on top of your head, you can’t see it,

can't pinpoint the problem. Where the fuck did it go wrong. Where was the flaw. Deciding to grab another cup of coffee, you see a figure standing in the doorway. Turning on the lights, you see Steve standing, staring at you.

“How long have you been analyzing?” He asks, looking concerned at you. “As soon as I got back, I needed a break.” You answer not looking at him, starting to read the report for the twentieth time.

“You need sleep, you’re almost up for 24 hours.” He walks towards you, standing close, eyeing you. “What do you think?” you ask while rummaging through papers.

“I don’t know, maybe someone sabotaged this, I couldn’t think who would do that. Seeing you did everything you could, I mean it wouldn’t be wise to….” Steve stops when he sees the look in your eyes, he did it again.

“You think I sabotaged this, that I didn't do my job.” You angry interrupt Steve.

“That’s not how I meant it.” he answers standing before you. “But it’s what you mean. We're done here.” walking away from Steve, you need to sleep. Stopping in the doorway, “I need to close the office, so get out.” You snap at Steve.

“y/n, don’t be that way.” Steve pleas. “I don’t need to talk about it, as I said we're done. Captain Rogers, please go, I want to sleep.” You motion for Steve to come out of the office.

He stops in front of you, looking you in the eyes, pleading for reasoning with him. But you look away, you don’t want to discuss this with him. Feeling offended by the thought you would sabotage a mission, take it for granted that people where killed.

“y/n, I didn’t mean it that way.” Steve says one last time, his eyes soft and searching for yours. “I’m going to sleep, Captain Rogers.” You say locking the office and walking away. “y/n, wait.” Steve shouts after you, jogging your way, once he’s caught up with you, he walks beside you. Trying to continue the argument, you stop seeing agent Carter approaching you. “Steve, let me go sleep, I’m to tired now. As soon as I’ve found something, I will contact you.”

Sharon captures the last part of your conversation, deciding to join your discussion, “Come on Steve, they did the best as they could, right?” making a snarky comment.

“I think I misunderstood you, I must be so tired, that I misunderstood you. What you mean by the best we could?” You ask, starting to shake with anger.

“You know how to use all the equipment or not. Maybe Fury overestimated your qualities as a teamleader.” Sharon smiling mockingly at you. “I think, it would be wise to let me talk to Captain Rogers alone.” Emphasizing the alone part, while trying to capture your boiling anger within your fist.

“Alone, what so you can convince him with your other qualities.” She says eyeing you, quirking an eyebrow. “Well, not that it is any of your business, but were thinking about sabotage. There’s no other option, seen that every analyzation came out positive.” You say, looking for a reaction. For a second it looked like Sharon was nervous and would come clean with something, but she recovered quickly and made a cynical comment, before walking away, “If you tell yourself this as redemption, maybe you should just accept the fact that you didn’t prep this mission as you should and failed the team.”

“Go fuck yourself. I’m going to sleep”, you yell after her, deciding your too tired and start walking towards your room. Finally reaching your room, you hear footsteps following you.

“y/n, damn it, stop. Could you just listen to me.” Steve had followed you. “What do you want now, Rogers, I’m tired, i need to clear my head and get some sleep. The problem won't solve itself.” crossing your arms, looking agitated at Steve.

“One minute,” you warn him, tapping your arm impatiently. “Okay, I wasn’t blaming you, or saying you sabotaged the mission. It feels like someone altered the conditions. Or the conditions changed during your research. I don't know, but it doesn't feel right. Somethings off." Steve explained, looking at you, trying to read your expression.

" I don't know, but the conditions didn't changed during our research. That's one thing I know for sure." answering him, trying to stifle a yawn. “You're sure about that?” Steve said, regretting his words as soon as they left his Lips.

"You're an ass you know that. So full of yourself. You really think that I would check the conditions ones and then take that for granted. We checked the conditions daily, until you started the mission. You really think I gained my level 9 clearance with doing nothing. Just part of my job..you can.....”

Steve slams his lips against yours, pushing you into the wall. ”Would you just shut up”, he hissed between kisses. He opens the door behind you, entering the bedroom, not once leaving your lips. Kissing you sloppy, teeth and noses colliding.

When the door closes, he captures you between the door and him. He stops for a moment, looking into your eyes, searching, is he the only one who wants this. Arguing with him, made him want you even more. For a moment insecurity gets the best of him. Your face cupped in his hands, you look at him, trying to read his face. His eyes were stormy and dark, something you weren’t used from the super soldier.

“Steve, I..” you start, he covers your mouth with another hungry kiss. Responding immediately, resting your arms in his neck. Likking your bottomlip for entrance, you open your mouth with a low moan. His body hard against yours. God, how he wanted this for so long. At the party he made a mistake, he won't do that again. It was foolish to apologize for being attracted to you. It was torture working with you, being so close, without being able to touch you. His hands rome over your body, one hand stopping at the small of your back, the other resting in the hem of your neck.

“y/n” he whispers against your lips, breathing heavy against your mouth. “I wasn’t accusing you of sabotaging, anything, nor judging your skills as analyzer," Steve pants his head resting against yours.

Sighed you walk away from Steve, “You had to ruin the moment, didn’t you.” Steve turns, his hands on his hips, “What do you mean by that?” he looks at you, still recovering from your makeout session. “What I mean is..” You get interrupted with a knock on the door. “y/n, you in there? Are you sleeping?” Lexi asks.

“I was Lexi,” you lie, questioningly looking at Steve, mouthing a what towards him.

“Something came to my mind, I wanted to check it with you.” She says against the door. “I’ll be with you in five. You can go to the office, I will join you. I need to get dressed.” You lie again. Once you hear Lexi’s footsteps receding, you turn towards Steve.

“It’s time you get out,” walking towards your door, opening it for Steve. “y/n,” Steve sighs, “lets talk about all of this, what’s happening between us. Come on, don’t do this.” Steve raises his hands in frustration.

“I’m not doing, anything, you’re doing it. So there you go, go think about it and make a fucking decision.” As if your voice isn’t showing how angry you are, you slam the door in Steve’s face. You stare for a moment at the door, touching your red, swollen lips. What were you doing, was it in the heat of the moment? Either way it felt so good.

Bucky looked at the both of you, a crimson blush on both of your faces. That kiss was full of frustration and need. If you hadn’t been interrupted by Callie, who knows what would have happened. Maybe you would have had the greatest sex and things wouldn’t have turned out this way.

“What did Callie find?” Steve asks you, he still had the feeling that something was off and it wasn’t only this mission. He had the feeling that it was part of a bigger picture.

One day after school, Ryuji stumbled as his broken leg was acting up, and because of that, he met one of Gekkoukan High’s former athletes. Kazushi Miyamoto.

“Breaking News” The television blared as Sojiro bid farewell to the last customer during the lunch hour.

“Shujin Academy was just attacked by an unknown terrorist group.” The television continued, stopping Sojiro from what he was doing. “According to initial investigations, no one was awake during the siege.”

Sojiro dropped everything he was doing, flipped the ‘closed’ sign on his door and grabbed his car keys.

The TV changed scenes and showed the entrance of Shujin Academy as the reporter thanked the newscaster.

“We have Police Officer Sanada to discuss a few more details of this terrorist attack.” The on-scene reporter as another man stood beside him.

Sojiro chose this time to turn off the television and rushed towards the school.

After rushing towards the school to fetch his daughter, he decided to grab Ryuji and Anne as well. The trio showed signs of being banged up, which made him fear for the worst. He’s just glad that the trio were relatively safe.

“What the hell happened at school for you to be banged up like that?” Sojiro asked as he dabbed some antiseptics on Ryuji’s wounds. “Don’t tell me you decided to play hero and fought some of those terrorists.” Which made the Sakamoto wince a bit.

“There were no terrorists.” Futaba interjected as she removed the blazer from her person. “That was a cover up.” She added.

“Futaba-chan’s right.” Anne agreed as she got out of the restroom, wearing Ryuji’s shirt. “It was the Shadows that attacked us.” She informed.

“The Shadows from that metaverse thing from last year?” Sojiro asked in surprise, that he unintentionally dabbed on Ryuji’s wound a little harder.

“Gaah!” Ryuji hissed.

“And done.” Sojiro announced. “Wear this.” He threw one of Ren’s shirt at the wounded boy.

“The same one.” Futaba answered Sojiro’s question as she fixed her hair and Ryuji wore the shirt given to him.

“Are all of you okay?” Makoto demanded.

“Do you require any assistance?” Haru asked in concern.

“Where are you now?” Makoto asked.

“Makoto calm down.” Anne reassured. “Boss fetched us and we’re currently in Leblanc.” She explained to the phone on the table that was on loudspeaker.

“You do not leave there.” Makoto ordered. “Haru and I will be there shortly.” She finished as she ended the call.

Ryuji and Anne looked at each other.

“It’s probably better that they hear everything from you.” Sojiro piped in as he gave the trio a plate of curry each and cup of juice each. “Even after knowing your activities last year and Wakaba’s cognitive psience, I still can’t believe what you told me.”

“Even we can’t believe what just happened.” Anne exclaimed. “And we experienced it.”

“What’s unbelievable was how powerful that Kirijo person is!” Futaba exclaimed. “She was able to communicate with us even from far away.” She added. “Either that or she has someone powerful to assist her in doing what she did earlier.”

“Wait Kirijo?” Sojiro questioned. “The CEO of the Kirijo group, Mitsuru Kirijo, is involved in all of this?” He asked in disbelief. “What kind of mess are you kids into now?” He growled.

Ryuji was about to explain when his own phone rang. He looked at it and saw that his mom was calling.

“Sorry Anne, can you guys handle this?” Ryuji asked. “Ma’s calling, she’s probably worried sick now.”

“Go reassure your mom Ryuji.” Futaba assured, as disrespectful to her elders as ever. “We’ll handle Sojiro.”

Ryuji nodded and headed upstairs for some privacy.

“Here’s the rundown of what has happened in the past few days.” Anne explained as she began to narrate.

“Are any of you injured?” Ren’s voice questioned over the phone.

Ren had called Anne’s phone as Makoto and Haru arrived at Leblanc. He was worried to what his friends experienced.

“We’ll explain later, Makoto and Haru just arrived.” Anne stated. “Ryuji’s mom just called.” She explained.

“Why don’t you guys talk upstairs?” Sojiro suggested. “You can get more privacy up there, a customer might walk in the middle of the conversation.”

“Thanks Boss.” Ren expressed his gratitude over the phone.

“Ren?”

“Ren-kun?”

“Hello Haru, Makoto.” Ren greeted. “Where’s Ryuji?” He asked.

“He’s upstairs.” Futaba answered. “His mom called.”

“Futaba, call Yusuke.” Ren ordered as the group went with the owner’s suggestion.

As if on cue, Futaba’s phone rang.

“Well, I guess, Inari’s a step ahead of us for once.” Futaba commented.

“None of it was true.” Ryuji answered everyone’s queries. “It was a cover up by Kirijo herself.”

“What do you mean?” Ren questioned. “The news said that the school was attacked.”

“By Shadows.” Anne supplied. “Not by terrorists but by shadows.”

“That’s impossible!” Morgana denied the claim. “Shadows can’t exist in the real world.” He added. “And the Metaverse is gone.” He continued.

“We don’t exactly know what happened.” Futaba chimed in. “One second I was in the middle of class and the next I was surrounded by upright coffins and the surroundings turned green and black.” She continued.

“Not to mention that the shadows we fought were the people who didn’t turn into coffins.” Anne added.

“Did any of you experience the same thing?” Makoto asked the others.

“No, nothing of that sort happened here.” Ren answered.

“I can confirm that.” Morgana chimed in.

“I’m afraid no.” Yusuke denied. “I was in class when it was suddenly suspended because of what happened at Shujin.” He stated over the phone.

“Classes went on as normal for Haru and I as well.” Makoto nodded. “Up until the sudden suspension.” She finished.

“I must admit that I was worried for everyone’s safety.” Haru admitted. “I immediately rushed to Mako-chan’s side before making the call.”

“They’re upstairs.” Sojiro’s voice was heard over the phone.

“Thank you, Boss.” Yusuke thanked the owner.

A moment later everyone was in the same room except for Ren and Morgana.

“In any case, are the three of you okay?” Ren repeated his question from earlier. “You did mention getting into a fight with Shadows.

“We’re relatively fine.” Futaba answered.” Although Ryuji’s weakness to wind was exploited a few times.” She informed everyone. “His shirt was torn open and even managed to nick his torso.” She finished.

“Ryuji are you fine?” Came Ren’s voice.

“Are you fine?” Was everyone else’s reaction.

“Chill guys.” Ryuji reassured everyone. “Boss already patched me up with some disinfectants and band aids.” He informed everyone. “Hey Ren.” He changed everyone’s focus. “Boss let me wear your shirt, my PE uniform got torn by a shadow.” He explained. “As Futaba said.”

“Which shirt?” Ren asked.

“That white V-neck shirt.” Ryuji answered. “Boss immediately handed me one of your shirts after patching me up.” He explained. “Don’t worry, I’ll get this washed and return it when you come for a visit.”

“Keep it.” Ren chuckled over the phone.

“For real?”

“Yeah, consider it a job well done for keeping everyone safe in shadow fights in my absence.” Ren praised.

A faint blush appeared on Ryuji’s face, mostly unnoticed.

“I-I don’t know what to say.” Ryuji admitted.

“I’m serious, a shirt is a small price for everyone’s safety.” Ren shrugged. “In any case, can you give everyone else a complete rundown of what happened at school?” He asked the trio. “I’m still a little iffy on what happened.

“I agree.” Morgana voiced his agreement over the phone. “The Metaverse should have been gone, and that included our ability to summon our Personas.”

And so Anne, Ryuji and Futaba took turns to explain what happened during the Shadow Attack.

“Not only is Kirijo-san a powerful woman, she’s also a Persona-user herself.” Haru shared her thoughts.

“So in this strange event, only people with Personas can roam around freely,” Makoto mulled “and anyone without a Persona will risk getting turned into a shadow.”

“Not necessarily turn into.” Morgana interjected. “I feel like their shadows had gone berserk and took over.” He explained.

“I am somewhat glad that Ryuji’s status as Persona user was compromised.” Ren admitted.

“I guess you can find a silver lining there.” Morgana sighed. “But that was still a dumb mistake Ryuji.” The cat chastised over the phone.

“What was that?!” Ryuji growled.

“No, that wasn’t at all Ryuji’s fault.” Makoto voiced out. “If anyone from Shujin encountered Kirijo-san they’d most likely be scanned for a Persona.” She explained.

“If anything, it’s thanks to Ryuji’s quick thinking, he was able to preserve our identities.” Anne praised. “And the person Kirijo-san sent was none-the-wiser.” She smiled as she put an arm over Ryuji’s shoulders.

“I guess the monkey can think of a good plan sometimes.” Morgana fired.

“What was that you dumb cat!”

“Wait, we aren’t going to talk about that Akechi look-alike?” Futaba asked.

“What is there to talk about?” Haru asked. “Didn’t he introduce himself as Ken Amada?” She continued.

“What if that was really Akechi?” Futaba countered. “Hiding behind an alias and all that.”

“Didn’t he have a different Persona than the one Akechi used last year?” Makoto questioned.

“Yes, I believe he called his Persona Kala-Nemi.” Anne nodded.

“Don’t forget, Akechi can use multiple Personas.” Futaba reminded.

“Futaba presents a good point.” Makoto nodded. “We were caught off guard when we saw Akechi use Loki.” She added. “It is possible that Kala-Nemi is another of his Persona.”

“Didn’t you say that you couldn’t get a reading after the gunshot?” Yusuke asked the group’s navigator. “Wasn’t that the reason why we were forced to retreat and were unable to save Akechi?” He continued.

“I know what I said!” Futaba exclaimed. “I just can’t ignore the possibility that the person who killed my mother is still alive.” She explained. “And continue to roam freely.”

“We understand how you feel Futaba,” Ren’s voice cooed from the phone. “-but we can’t bother ourselves with hypotheticals.” He added. “Or we’ll lose sight of what’s ahead of us.”

“I know that.” Futaba nodded, eyes downcast. “But still…” She trailed off.

“Nothing.” Ryuji interjected. “You got to live in the present.” He added. “You got to stop living in the past and look what’s a head.” He finished.

“Thanks Ryuji.” Futaba nodded as she hugged the older boy tightly.

“Ryu-kun!” Houtarou’s voice was suddenly heard from downstairs.

Ryuji’s immediate reaction was to perk up look at the stairs.

“Ryu-kun?” Morgana voiced everyone’s question over the phone.

“Ma?” Ryuji questioned as he quickly untangled himself from Futaba.

The male Sakamoto immediately headed downstairs and was greeted by the sight of his frantic mother with watery eyes.

Hotarou’s response was to immediately hug her son as relief flooded her system upon seeing him safe and sound.

“As soon as you stated where you were, I immediately rushed to this place.” The female Sakamoto explained as she buried her face to her son’s chest. “I just needed to make sure.” She added.

“It’s fine Ma.” Ryuji hugged his mother back. “I’m fine.” He reassured. “No one was hurt in the attack.” He added. “While I was one of the few people awake, I made sure to hide.” He assured.

The rest of the thieves just watched from the room upstairs.

“How about the two of us eat somewhere else?” Hotarou offered. “Then go home right after?”

“What about your other jobs?” Ryuji asked curiously.

“I already called in.” Hotarou explained. “They understand.”

Ryuji was about to turn around and grab his things, when Anne immediately put his bag on his shoulders and greeted the new arrival.

“Hello Sakamoto-san.” Anne greeted.

“Anne-chan!” Hotarou exclaimed. “Ryuji, you didn’t mention that Anne-chan was here.”

“I just haven’t had the chance to.” Ryuji sheepishly replied.

“Aren’t you going to introduce us?” Makoto prompted.

“Oh!” Ryuji perked up and stepped sideways. “Ma, these are my friends.” He gestured to them as the rest of the group met with elder Sakamoto. “The girl with black hair is Makoto Nijima-senpai, to her right, the girl with auburn hair is Haru Okumura-senpai.” He gestured to both girls. “You already met Anne.”

“Hello.” Anne greeted.

“It’s nice to meet you Sakamoto-san.” Makoto bowed in respect.

“It’s nice to meet you as well Sakamoto-san.” Haru mimicked the other girl.

“Next is Yusuke Kitagawa, the only other boy.” Ryuji gestured towards Yusuke next. “And lastly is Futaba Sakura, the boss’s daughter.”

“It is nice to meet a fair woman who has birthed someone as vulgar as Ryuji.” Yusuke greeted.

“H-hello.” Futaba responded as she hid behind Ryuji.

“Hello.” Sojiro greeted.

“It’s nice to meet you all.” Hotarou bowed. “I hope my son hasn’t caused anyone problems.”

“Ma!” Ryuji whined as he blushed. “You don’t gotta do that.” He exclaimed. “I’ve been a good boy alright.” He insisted. “Right guys?”

Everyone didn’t want to meet Ryuji’s or Hotarou’s eyes as they thought up of an answer.

“He did cause a few problems.” Anne trailed off.

“But he has bailed us out more times than I can count.” Haru immediately interjected.

“C’mon guys.” Ryuji whined as he appeared redder than before.

“Ryuji!” Hotarou called out. “That’s not how you treat your friends.” She scolded.

Everyone just laughed at Ryuji’s expense and even Ryuji himself joined in.

After a whole afternoon of bonding with his mother, Ryuji kissed his mother goodnight and headed for his own room. He immediately lied down as soon as he was inside when his phone rang.

“Hello?” Ryuji groggily answered.

“The same thing could be applied to you, you know.” Ren’s voice stated calmly.

“What are you talking about?” Ryuji yawned as he got up and sat on his bed.

“Stop living in the past and look what’s ahead.” Ren repeated Ryuji’s words from earlier. “The same could be applied to you, you know.” He pointed out. “You’re still blaming yourself with the track team’s disbandment.” He stated. “Aren’t you?”

“Kinda hard not to.” Ryuji sighed. “The team got canned after I punch Kamoshida’s ugly mug.” He admitted. “To everyone else, I did cause the team to disband.” He finished.

“Should that still bother you?” Ren questioned. “You managed to find the team a much better coach than Kamoshida and his lackey.” He pointed out. “And your teammates already forgave you.” He continued. “Even if I didn’t want to agree with how they have gone about it.” He finished with a hiss.

“I know I should let that go.” Ryuji admitted. “But it’s really hard to when history keeps repeating itself.” He reasoned out. “I ruined the previous team I was in.” He started to explain. “Now, I’m about to do the same to you guys.”

“Didn’t Makoto lay that out earlier?” Ren questioned. “She stated that you’re not at any fault for your identity being compromised.” He remembered the conversation the team had earlier. “Had Mishima been there, I’m pretty sure that Kirijo-san will have him scanned for a Persona.”

“There comes the problem.” Morgana inserted himself into the conversation. “Ryuji’s most likely going to be sued now that Kirijo has proof that he’s a phantom thief.” He explained. “Or at the very least use him as a means to their end.” He continued.” Like how Shido used Akechi.”

“Way to bring the guy down Morgana.” Ren muttered under his breath. “We also can’t ignore the possibility that Kirijo-san is acting out in good faith.” Ren tried to salvage the situation.

“Makoto said the same thing.” Ryuji pointed out. “She also said I should be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.” He finished.

“That is all we can do for now.” Ren sighed. “I wish I was there.” He admitted. “I might’ve been able to steer the suspicion off of you.”

“Dude no!” Ryuji reacted immediately at the suggestion.” You suffered so much for the team.” He pointed out. “I can’t possibly let you suffer because of me.” He finished.

“But still.” Ren tried to argue.

“But nothing.” Ryuji interrupted. “You’ve already done so much for us.” He reasoned. “It time that I contribute something substantial to the team.”

“Finally the monkey gets it.” Morgana’s condescending voice was heard again.

“What was that?!”

“Ryu-kun! You’re disturbing the neighbors.” Hotarou reminded from outside her son’s room.

“Sorry Ma!” Ryuji apologized.

“In any case.” Ren got Ryuji’s attention. “I hope you won’t be arrested like I was Ryuji.” He admitted. “I wouldn’t want the same fate to befall on you.”

“Ryuji!” Ren hissed. “What I went through was no easy ordeal.” He reminded. “While it’s true that I was really thankful to have met all of you.” He started. “But I could have gone without being tortured and being killed.”

“Sorry.” Ryuji apologized. “I was just trying to lighten the mood.” He sighed. “But seriously Ren, you don’t have anything to worry about.” He reassured his best friend. “I won’t rat anyone out.”

“I’m not worried about them.” Ren admitted. “I’m worried about you.” He exclaimed. “You could face the same horrors I did.”

“Like my Ma always say.” Ryuji sighed.” Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.” He continued. “Frankly, I’m scared but I’m prepared.” He admitted.

“That’s the thing, you shouldn’t have to face that ordeal.” Ren argued.

“What can we do?” Ryuji asked “I was given this situation.”

“But I promise you this.” Ren’s voice became resolute.” If you do end up being arrested, I will use everything in my power to get you free.” He announced. “Just like you guys did for me.”

What to watch for at Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings

WASHINGTON — Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week offers senators their only real opportunity to challenge the Supreme Court nominee’s legal thinking before he would take a lifetime appointment on America’s highest court.

This time around, the stakes are higher because President Donald Trump’s nominee is poised to succeed swing vote Justice Anthony Kennedy, the conservative-centrist who joined with liberals to uphold Roe v. Wade and abortion rights. Kennedy was also the decisive vote for same-sex marriage and university affirmative action.

But if past confirmation hearings are any lesson, Kavanaugh, previously a top aide to President George W. Bush, will try to reveal as little as possible while being as pleasant as possible.

Here’s what to watch for this week:

Robert Mueller and executive power

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election remains at the forefront of the political arena, and this will be no exception.

The Supreme Court could ultimately resolve disputes arising from that investigation, and senators have said they will ask Kavanaugh about his views of executive power and when the president can be subject to investigation and indictment.

Kavanaugh knows a thing or two about investigating a president. He worked as a deputy to independent counsel Ken Starr, going after President Bill Clinton in the 1990s. Back then, in a memo, he explained why he felt it was necessary to get Clinton to answer questions under oath about White House intern Monica Lewinsky. In the memo, he suggested that the American people and Congress needed to know the full extent of the President’s wrongdoing.

But after serving in the Bush White House, his thinking about pursuing a president seems to have evolved. In 2009, he wrote that having seen how “complex” and “difficult” the job was, he thought it was “vital that the President be able to focus on his never-ending tasks with as few distractions as possible.” He proposed that any criminal or civil claims against a president be deferred until he left office.

“(T)he indictment and trial of a sitting president,” Kavanaugh wrote in a 2009 law review, “would cripple the federal government, rendering it unable to function with credibility in either the international or domestic arenas.”

Obamacare

For Democrats, health care is a possible way to win political points for the upcoming midterm elections at the hearings.

Democrats have said they worry that Kavanaugh would move to strike down popular provisions, such as the requirement that insurers cover everyone regardless of medical history and do not charge more for people with certain health conditions.

“I think this becomes the narrative of his nomination, which could bring it down,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, according to the Los Angeles Times. “If people realize that their insurance is at risk because of this court nominee, I think there is going to be a lot of pressure put on a lot of people to vote no.”

Trump has long criticized the 2010 Affordable Care Act and targeted Chief Justice John Roberts for his crucial fifth vote to uphold the law in 2012. “If I win the presidency, my judicial appointments will do the right thing unlike Bush’s appointee John Roberts on Obamacare,” Trump tweeted in 2015.

When a DC Circuit panel upheld the ACA in 2011, Kavanaugh dissented on procedural grounds, rather than assessing the merits. He said it was premature to resolve a dispute that involved an insurance mandate to be imposed in 2014, with a tax penalty the following year. Yet as he dissented, Kavanaugh laid out limits on Congress’ power to regulate commerce. The crux of the litigation at that point was whether Congress could order people to buy a product, that is, health insurance.

Government’s authority over business

The Trump administration has vigorously worked to eliminate regulations on business, for example, in the workplace and over the environment. White House Counsel Don McGahn has said the administration has screened judicial candidates for an anti-regulatory focus.

Kavanaugh’s thinking has been in sync with the administration. He has argued that regulatory agencies should exercise authority only when it is clearly spelled out in federal statutes, departing from the judicial practice of deferring to agency interpretations of an open-ended law. In one 2014 dispute, Kavanaugh criticized a Labor Department move to sanction SeaWorld following the drowning of a trainer by the orca Tilikum, declaring that the agency had “stormed headlong into a new regulatory arena.”

More broadly, Kavanaugh has questioned an entrenched 1984 Supreme Court case, Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council, that says judges should defer to agency interpretations of ambiguous laws. That, Kavanaugh said in a 2017 speech, “encourages agency aggressiveness on a large scale.”

Roe v. Wade

Senators will ask Kavanaugh the same question that has come up in almost every modern-day confirmation hearing: Does he think Roe v. Wade, the 1973 opinion that legalized abortion, was wrongly decided and should be overturned?

The opinion is more than 40 years old, but it is still a flashpoint and opponents of abortion believe that Kavanaugh will deliver a fifth vote to either overturn Roe or cripple it.

Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine Republican who supports abortion rights, met with Kavanaugh last month and seemed satisfied that he will respect Roe. She said he’d called it “settled law” during their meeting.

But while lower court judges must abide by Supreme Court precedent, a Supreme Court justice has the latitude to try to reverse it. Supporters of abortion rights fear the worst, and Democratic senators will push him on the issue.

“It’s not enough for Brett Kavanaugh to say that Roe is ‘settled law,’ ” Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, said in a tweet after Collins’ comments. “Chief Justice Roberts said the same thing in 2005. Then he voted in favor of a law that would have forced 75% of Texas clinics to close. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”

Where are the documents?

Friday evening, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley was informed that the White House would withhold some 100,000 documents concerning Kavanaugh’s record because administration lawyers believe the documents are covered by constitutional privilege. The disclosure infuriated Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, who called it the “Friday Night Document Massacre.”

“President Trump’s decision to step in at the last moment and hide 100,000 pages of Judge Kavanaugh’s records from the American public is not only unprecedented in the history of Supreme Court nominations, it has all the makings of a cover-up,” he said.

Grassley, an Iowa Republican, is refusing to supply records from Kavanaugh’s years as Bush’s staff secretary. On top of that, there are some documents that lawyers for Trump and the White House have labeled “committee confidential.” Democrats say Grassley has deviated from the normal protocols concerning document delivery.

Grassley’s office responds that he’s made hundreds of thousands of documents available, and that Kavanaugh has issued more than 300 opinions that offer the best view of his jurisprudence.

Judge Kozinski, who resigned after sexual harassment allegations

Kavanaugh was a law clerk to Judge Alex Kozinski from 1991 to 1992 and has remained close to his former boss through the years. When Kavanaugh was nominated to the DC Circuit, Kozinski testified on his behalf at 2006 hearings, and Kavanaugh returned the praise and thanked him for helping his career.

Kozinski, who had sat on the California-based 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals since 1985, stepped down in December after numerous women accused him of sexual harassment. The federal judiciary dropped its investigation of Kozinski once he resigned. As part of that episode, the Senate panel already has scrutinized the judiciary’s misconduct policies, and Democrats are likely to ask what Kavanaugh knew of Kozinski’s behavior as they raise broader sexual-harassment concerns.

The White House issued a statement in July saying that Kavanaugh was never aware of allegations of sexual misconduct against his longtime mentor: “Judge Kavanaugh clerked for Alex Kozinski more than 25 years ago. Prior to the public reports late last year, Judge Kavanaugh had never heard any allegations of sexual misconduct or sexual harassment by Judge Kozinski.”

Brown v. Board

During several hearings for lower court judges, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, has asked nominees whether they believe that the landmark civil rights opinion Brown v. Board of Education, which struck down the “separate but equal” doctrine in public schools, was correctly decided.

Wendy Vitter, a general counsel for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans who was nominated to a district court, said she didn’t mean to be “coy” but that she thought it inappropriate to comment on Supreme Court decisions, “which are correctly decided and which I may disagree with.” Her comments triggered outrage.

Kavanaugh knows this question is likely coming, and there’s nothing in his record to suggest he would question the validity of Brown.

When Roberts was asked this in 2005, he said: “The genius of the decision was the recognition that the act of separating students was where the violation was. And it rejected the defense — certainly just a theoretical one given the actual record — that you could have equal facilities and equal treatment.”

Justice Antonin Scalia, for his part, way back in 1986, wouldn’t even answer whether Marbury v. Madison, the 1803 opinion that asserted the power of judicial review, had been correctly decided.

“I don’t think I should answer questions regarding any specific Supreme Court opinion, even one as fundamental as Marbury v. Madison,” Scalia said. But he told senators he “ought to be in trouble” if they were to uncover anything he’d written disregarding the opinion, “without you asking me specifically about my views.”

Misleading testimony?

Sen. Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, is ready to pounce on Kavanaugh, because the senator believes that 12 years ago, when Kavanaugh appeared before the Judiciary Committee as a nominee for a powerful appeals court, his testimony was misleading when it came to issues stemming from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

At the time Kavanaugh said, “I was not involved and am not involved in the questions about the rules governing detention of combatants.”

Once he was confirmed, however, a Washington Post story recounted how Kavanaugh had participated in a meeting at the White House concerning whether enemy combatants should have access to lawyers. Durbin shot off an angry letter to the judge and said he’d been misled. But supporters of Kavanaugh say that while he may have participated in discussions regarding whether detainees should have the ability to consult with lawyers, he never participated in broader issues related to detainee treatment.

Kavanaugh’s White House boss at the time, Alberto Gonzales, said in a recent statement that only a “limited number of personnel” were read into the sensitive legal issues surrounding the authorization of the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on high value detainees.

Richard Nixon and John Dean

Back in 1999, Kavanaugh said the landmark opinion that ordered President Richard Nixon to turn over White House recordings toward the end of the Watergate investigation might have been “wrongly decided.”

The comments, made as part of an interview in Washington Lawyer magazine, were included in the thousands of pages of documents released by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The White House was quick to point to a more recent speech in which Kavanaugh praised the 1974 ruling, which rejected Nixon’s claim of executive privilege to withhold the tapes. It was unclear if Kavanaugh had had a change of heart.

But in the age of Trump, whose 2016 campaign is under investigation, Democrats are sure to seek clarification from Kavanaugh.

John Dean, Nixon’s former White House counsel, is scheduled to testify Friday.

Starr Report

Another topic from Kavanaugh’s time with Starr would be his role as a co-author of the 1998 report that laid out grounds for Clinton’s impeachment along with explicit details of sexual encounters between Clinton and Lewinsky. Kavanaugh also proposed hard-hitting, sexually charged questions as the Starr team was preparing to interview Clinton before a grand jury.

“The President has disgraced his Office, the legal system, and the American people by having sex with a 22-year-old intern and turning her life into a shambles — callous and disgusting behavior that has somehow gotten lost in the shuffle,” Kavanaugh wrote in an Aug. 15, 1998, memo to Starr and other lawyers.

Kavanaugh has expressed regret that the whole steamy report was publicly released but defended the vigor with which the Starr team pursued Clinton, who was impeached by the House of Representatives and acquitted by the Senate.

LMWTV4U: GOT S7E3

Welcome back! In case you’re new, this is LET ME WATCH TV 4 U (?), the blog where I watch tv so you don’t have to! If you missed it, I wrote a special mid-week post this past week which broke down the main characters called: new phone who dis? Check it out here.

Also reminder that I have a new feature called “Why does this scene even matter?” (WDTSEM) for those seemingly useless scenes which may or may not actually be important later.

Tonight’s episode featured the FIRST EVER meeting of Bae and Khaleesi, so let’s get into it!

************************SPOILER ALERT************************************

We start off on Dragonstone….

...which is the island where Khaleesi and co have posted up. Bae rows up with no-knuckles in a tiny rowboat and meets his old pal Tyrion on the sand. T is like remember when we met in season 1 and I peed off the edge of the wall that you were guarding lol jk lol jk? And Bae is like yep you were so wasted, bro. They also meet Khaleesi’s hottie translator with the good hair who’s like welcome, please hand over all of your weapons. And Bae’s like BUT I THOUGHT I HAD TSA- PRE CHECK! And T’s like naw, we’ve really had to tighten up our policies here. Some horse-dudes also take their little rowboat away.

As Bae and No-Knuckles (NK) are walking up to meet Khaleesi, her dragons do a quick perimeter sweep and really freak out poor little bae (see gif above). Watching all of this unfold from a creepy high-up-spying-spot is the Red Witch Lady who brought Bae back from the dead but then got kicked out and also Sleevey. The Red Witch is like I did my part, I brought Khaleesi and Bae together. And Sleevey’s like… don’t you want to see their first meeting? I think it might be like the Hamilton-Burr meeting in the musical Hamilton? And she’s like nope I got kicked out for burning a kid alive so not really welcome around him or NK. And he’s like ya you better get to steppin’ back East. And she’s like NO YOU better get to steppin’ back east.

WDTSEM? Truly no idea. I guess we’re supposed to be reminded that Sleevey hates religion because a religious zealot cut off his who-ha and ho-ho’s and therefore they do NOT get along?

Now, if you’ll recall Khaleesi is a pretty kewl lady. She campaigned on an anti-slavery platform back in the East and brought together a bunch of different groups of people all while keeping dat hair and dem outfits on point. And Bae is also a pretty kewl dude. He supports refugees and fights for the underserved and also looks fly as hell doing it. I know what you’re thinking, ARE THEY BOTH SINGLE? THEY SHOULD BONE? Well, unbeknownst to both of them, they’re actually related; she’s his aunt. But considering this episode featured a sex scene between a man and a woman who happen to be TWINS, I feel like aunt-nephew is not too weird for GoT-land. Back to the point, this is the first time Bae and Khaleesi are ever meeting and due to their similarities on paper, you’d think they’d get along. But turns out they do not.

Khaleesi is basically like #bowdownbitches and Bae is like naw dawg. They go back and forth for awhile, with Khaleesi explaining how/why she should overtake Queen Pixie Cut (QPC) and Bae basically agreeing but saying his real concern is the giant army of ice zombies. And she’s like lol wut? Ice zombies? Nice try, dude. Next thing you know, Sleevey rolls up and is like ruh-roh! Remember last episode when our pals Previously-Traumatized Theon (PTT), his sis Yara aka the Kween of the Iron Islands, and the Sand Queen lady sailed off to Southern shore to be mobilize our forces down South? Well PTT and Yara’s uncle, Uncle-Crazy-Pants (UCP) attacked them, burned most of their ships, and took Yara and the Sand-Queen lady hostage.

Next, we get a shot of PTT washing up and getting pulled into a boat where he reports that his sis was taken hostage and no, sorry, he wasn’t able to get her back. His peeps are like ugh what’s your deal, bro? But poor bb PTT has been through a lot so give him a break, ok?!?

WDTSEM? Well the Sand Queen and Yara were supposed to bring together all of Yara’s fleet of ships (which was approx. a buttload) and then head to Sand Queen’s home (Dorne) and bring together that whole army and then march up to King’s Landing, where QPC is sittin’ on dat throne. Now that they’re captured and their ships are burnt, this is a huge loss to Khaleesi.

Speaking of Uncle-Crazy-Pants, let’s check in on him in King’s Landing…

UCP is marching down the streets of King’s Landing doing a pretty good impression of Aladdin during the “Make Way for Prince Ali” scene. The difference here is that he is dragging along his niece, Yara, as well as the Sand Queen (SQ) lady and one her Sand Snake daughters. He struts up to QPC on his horse and “delivers” her the gift of SQ and her daughter. Now if you’ll recall, one of QPC’s kids, her daughter Myrcella, got kissed on the lips with poison by SQ a few seasons ago and proceeded to die on a lovely boat trip in which her dad/uncle (Jaime) confessed that he was her real dad. So needless to say, QPC and Jaime are NOT FANs of this lady.

UCP is like here, QPC, I brought you these prisoners, can we get married and/or bone now? And QPC is like yep, sure can! But first let’s beat Khaleesi in this giant, ongoing war. She tells him he’s in charge of her naval forces and that her bro is in charge of the Lannister army. And since UCP is cuckoo, he’s like hey Jaime, can you give me sex tips for when I do it with your sister (honestly, fair question) and obvi Jaime is like NOT KEWL BRO but he has to pretend to like this guy so he bites his tongue.

Then QPC makes a big deal of locking up SQ and her daughter and then kissing the daughter on the lips with poison to be like #reciprocity I guess? And she’s like SQ will have to watch her daughter die and then also hang out in this cave forever. I guess all this torture is really a turn-on because next thing we know, she’s making out with her brother and giving him a blowie right there.

The next morning, they’re all post-coital and he’s like I should...go? And she’s like naw, I’m the kween we can do whatever! And her maid sees them in their nudididity and is like eww?

Then QPC takes a meeting with an important banker who’s like…bitch...you broke. And she’s like gimme a minute, I got dis.

We stop back by Dragonstone to catch Bae bein’ Bae…

By which I mean he’s brooding by a cliff. And Tyrion is like damn I was trying to brood but you look hawter doing it, which is v. true really. They chat about what went wrong back at that meeting between Khaleesi and Bae. Tyrion tells Bae to take a chill pill and think about how crazy he sounds talkin’ bout ice zombies and whatnot. He also tells Bae about all the good things Khaleesi has done and how she’s actually a pretty cool lady. Then he goes and does the same with Khaleesi, basically. He’s like Bae’s a cool guy and all he wants from you are these rocks that you have under your castle that you’re NOT EVEN USING so just let him do that. And she’s like ok fine.

So then we get to Bae-Khaleesi-meeting 2.0 where it’s just the 2 of them, standing on this cliff chatting kween-to-king. She agrees to let him mine the “dragonglass” (rocks that kill ice zombies) under her castle and he kind of agrees to support her in her campaign against QPC? Well mostly he agrees that QPC is no good and Khaleesi would be a better kween. Then Bae’s like… does this mean you believe me re: ice zombies? And Khaleesi is like… no comment.

We head North to Winterfell, where Bae’s sis Sansa was left in charge

And boy is she doing a good job! Which is kind of surprising, only because we’ve never seen her utilize these skills before. She’s walking around telling people to start storing their barley for winter and telling the metal-workers to line their breastplates with leather and generally being a BOSS. Littlefinger, AS ALWAYS, is creeping around behind her doing nothing helpful. He stops to give her some advice about imagining every possible scenario at all times which is like, sure, a good idea in theory but who has time for that?!?

Suddenly her little bro, Bran, who she was told was maybe dead, shows up in Winterfell. She’s like OMG YASS KWEEN YOU’RE ALIVE! And Bran is just sitting there (to be fair he is paraplegic so he couldn’t get up) staring straight ahead and is acting all robotic. I guess it’s because he’s been through some trauma but at this point so has almost every character on GoT and they still manage to register human emotion.

They proceed to have a heart-2-heart by the old-family-magic-face-tree and she’s like so...what’s been going on in the last 6 seasons? And he’s like I am the three-eyed-raven now I can see the past and the present and all scenarios at all times (hmm interesting that this is exactly what littlefinger just advised her to do...) And she’s like cool….so….do you want to be in charge now since you are the oldest living official Stark male and gender roles are apparently still a BFD up North? And he’s like can’t… I have to prophesize. Btw where’s Bae? We know as savvy viewers that he’s looking for Bae because he needs to tell him about the paternity results.

And then he vividly describes the night she was married off to her psychopath-ex-husband who then proceeded to rape her. He keeps talking about it, too, which I guess is to prove that he can see the past but also NOT trauma-informed and not a welcome conversation. It’s weird.

We stop by Old Town which is more and more like Hogwarts every day…

Mostly because Jim Broadbent is there and because people are getting miraculously cured from turning-to-stone-diseases. Sam, Bae’s bestie, is still interning at the “maester” academy, learning to be a doctor/librarian and you’ll recall that last week he did some under-the-radar experimental surgery to treat Stoney, who happens to be one of Khaleesi’s besties. Now get this, STONEY IS CURED! The artist-formerly-known-as-Stoney is like thanks, Sam, I gotta get back to Khaleesi! And Sam’s boss is like I know you did that amateur surgery and you’re in big trouble but also good job I’m proud of you.

Our last scene is really a montage of scenes so let’s get into it…

I have to admit that even I, GoT-viewing-expert (lol), was confused and overwhelmed by this last scene. So I’ll try to break it down as clearly as I can, but bear with me. We start with Tyrion laying out the current battle plan. Since Khaleesi is pretty ticked that their ships (well technically Yara’s ships but under her direction) were all destroyed by UCP, she mentions finding UCP’s ships and burning them up. How? Well duh, she got dem dragons! It’s strange because I’m pretty sure she’s talking about riding them and commanding them while at the helm, but she never really says this clearly. And Tyrion is like no that’s too dangerous, someone else should do it. Does he mean himself? MAYBE? TBD...

But for now, let’s get into the current battle zones:

Greyworm (fresh off his recent sex scene from last week) and the rest of the “unsullied” army, were sent by Khaleesi and Tyrion to overtake T’s family home, Casterly Rock. There’s this whole montage that Tyrion helpfully narrates about how if the unsullied were to attack Casterly Rock by just popping up on the fortress, they’d be crushed since it was built so well. BUT since Tyrion used to sneak in his sex ladies and booze and other “unsavory” things through the sewer system, he knows it very well. So he instructs Greyworm and a small group to come in through the back and engage in sneak-attack-warfare. They successfully take Casterly Rock, but they’re like...that’s funny...there were supposed to be a lot more people here? And they look out to the sea where it looks like UCP’s ships are burning up all of the ships they rode in on. Which is a real bummer.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Lannister army (all the people who were missing when Greyworm and co. attacked) led by Jaime, is shown marching on “Highgarden” which is where Grandma Tyrell (Gma) lives, apparently completely alone. Remember that Gma’s son and grandkids all got burned up in that church-explosion by QPC last season and then she decided to back Khaleesi? She also told Khaleesi not to trust Tyrion and to “be a dragon.” Gma is looking out at this whole army of Lannister dudes and is like well...IDGAF at this point, really. Important to note that Sam’s Dad (who is a major dick) and Sam’s bro (who’s actual name is Dickon) as well as Tyrion’s old pal Bronn are on the front lines with Jaime, even though last week Sam’s dad was like I could NEVER betray Gma Tyrell.

WDTSEM? Remember when QPC said she’d pay back all of her debts to the banker? Well Highgarden is famously wealthy and has lots of important exports (like grains, for example). So with Jaime and QPC in possession of all of that, as well the coffers of Casterly Rock which he says he cleared out, they can now pay them back, theoretically. Also, Highgarden is down South so now QPC and co have a stronghold down there.

Jaime meets Gma in her study for some light refreshments and death threats. Gma is like well… shoulda seen this coming. Also, did you know your sister/lover is the worst human ever? Like seriously a sociopath? And Jaime is like, oh you think she’s so bad? Well how about this? She is going to let you die from poison rather than torture- isn’t that sweet?!? And gma is like ugh whatever give me the poison, put it in my wine plz. She drinks it in one gulp and then she’s like oh, BTW, I know that Joffrey (the evil little prince dude who was poisoned and killed at his wedding to Gma’s granddaughter, Queen Makeunder) is your son cuz of incest and also, I’m the one who poisoned him. And Jaime is like maybe mad or maybe not? Maybe just surprised? Gma is like tell QPC that it was me who killed Joffrey, k? Ps I hate QPC ok bai, time to die.

WDTSEM? For so long QPC’s only redeeming quality (as told by all of the other characters) was her love for her children. After all 3 had died, she took over the throne and started in on this crazy reign of terror. Now she has SQ captive and is torturing her for killing her daughter and with this admission, she’s also killed the person responsible for one of her son’s deaths. Will ticking off those responsible for killing her main motivation in life help her find closure or make her more of a monster? I’d guess the latter.

Now let’s break it down:

Biggest surprise this ep: The attack on Highgarden! I did not see that coming and also did not fully understand at first. The way the scene was shot, it seemed like gma was in on this invasion, but obviously she was not, as she was later killed by said invaders.

Biggest letdown: Bran was so lackluster and un-enthuz’ed about finally seeing his sister and his hometown again. It’s like we get that you have magic powers now but could you show some effort here?

Important fashion moments: Bae’s meeting-the-kween-but-I-also-have-armor-on look was pretty fly and even though she is THE WORST, I was feeling the red-witch-lady’s linen-y red scarf/cape

Who died this ep? The Sand Queen’s daughter (the last of the “Sand Snakes”), a bunch of unsullied soldiers out at sea, and Olenna Tyrell (aka gma Tyrell) RIP.

WHY AM I EVEN SAYING THIS? I often will read other recaps/reviews after writing and posting this one and I’m like OMG WE HAD THE SAME REACTION/ SAID THE SAME THING about a scene or a character. So I guess I just wanted to say that any similarities between this recap and any other recap are unintentional and coincidental.

I know what you’re thinking: PROVE IT. Well, much like Bae trying to prove the ice zombies are real, I can’t prove it, I can only state the facts and hope that my time-worn face and honest peepers will be enough :)
