never forget...
read again?
no you did not see me repost this, shh
hemlo!! thank ya'll so so much for enjoying this lil comic series!! i know it's been a year since the first part, but most importantly i finished it 💀✨️
every single tags ya'll leave on me posts and past questions i recieve about this au is super appreciated, they make me smile the widest you have no clue!! im just a lil mad at myself that i couldn't expand on this au more so yall could have had more crumbs. irl stuff happened + still getting the hang of drawing and socializing again after years of doing neither of those 😭
but still, im glad i could share this comfort comic i made for myself, and for you guys too. it's a pretty personal one despite the characters not being mine 😅 i hope that you can walk away from this story believing (entirely or not) that someone out there still thinks of you, whether they're from a late/absent loved one who still wants the best for you or a dear friend who will make room in their hearts for you. life will never not be hard, but if you keep them close to your heart, adulting will be bearable 🫂
thank you so much for reading 💕

What bothers me the most about these "I've never read the source material" #feminist #queer retellings is that retellings are, at the bare minimum, in conversation with a source material. This is true whether or not you have actually read the story you are attempting to retell. Refusing to read the source just means your conversation is now one-sided, which is detrimental to any hope of furthering the discussion or themes or narrative. So now you've interrupted a conversation with an aside that ultimately adds nothing because it doesn't know enough about what was said previously to be able to respond or build upon it. And I just...don't get it! Why would you want to tell a story that way? Why would you decide to put an addition onto a house without looking at the architectural blueprints?

sticking w my reasoning that the vision fukuzawa had of the ada was his ability showing him the ppl who r connected to all men that r still alive, and that the reason dazai wasn’t in that panel is bc of nlh which wouldn’t allow for him to b able to see dazai through that connection

Wyatt: I could’ve had a bath at home.
Brynn: Tch, is not the same.
Gael: I was beginning to think you weren’t coming back.
[Brynn rolled her eyes, gesturing over her shoulder]
Brynn: This is Wy-…
Wyatt: Kaito.
Brynn: [hums] Kaito, meet Gael.
Gael: Did you have fun mountaineering with my better half all day?
Brynn: [scoffs] Gael, please-.. this is my friend, not yours.
[Gael huffed, twiddling with the drawstrings on his trunks uncomfortably]
Gael: So, what do you do?
Wyatt: You already know.
Gael: I do?
Wyatt: I’m a waiter?
Gael: Oh, right-.. is that it?
Wyatt: That’s it.
After exchanging a few painful pleasantries, Wyatt zoned out. Gael had launched into a wearisome soliloquy about his career and various other achievements, none of which were particularly interesting or impressive. Brynn wasn’t listening either, her eyes glazing over as he wittered to himself. He’d address her occasionally, growing more and more desperate for attention each time his prompts to involve her fell flat.
Intent on dropping hints about how wealthy and important he was, Gael’s one-sided conversation should’ve been deliciously interesting to pick apart, but Wyatt was too tired and hungry to think straight. He briefly wondered who Gael was trying to impress; Brynn, Wyatt or himself? His gut told him it was the latter, though he wasn’t sure why-.. he needed a full stomach and a warm bed.
Wyatt: I’d love to stay and be chatted at, but I have better things to do.
[Brynn swallowed a snicker as Gael balked, halting mid-sentence]
Brynn: I see you soon.
Wyatt: I’m sure you will…
Gael: Well, that was rude.
Brynn: You are rude, and embarrassing.
Gael: Embarrassing?!
Brynn: Why you think a stranger in another country gives a shit about you and your boring work is beyond my brain.
[Gael sighed, trying not to feel too offended; Brynn was just tired…]
