There are some things that cannot and should not be considered art. Art needs to have meaning and depth. “Middle grade” books and other pieces of media made for or about kids and teenagers simply don’t have the same capacity for deeper meaning. I think it’s fine for adults to consume pieces of media like that ocassionally, but it’s like reading Fanfiction or eating junk food; it has no real value, and it’s self-indulgent in way that is detrimental. Read what you want, but don’t pretend that middle grade or young adult is great literature, or that the people who make them are somehow creating art. It’s that sort of mindset that breeds “writers” like John Green and Becky Albertalli.
I contemplated simply blocking you over this but in the end decided to use your extremely pretentious ask to announce my appreciation of and respect for kid lit and especially middle grade lit. Literature for kids is some of the most important you can ever write, because these are the stories that can make a lifelong reader or turn someone away from literature completely. That anyone could look at books like the Chronicles of Narnia, His Dark Materials, Esperanza Rising, Walk Two Moons, Monster, The Watsons Go to Birmingham, anything by Kate DiCamillo, The House on Mango Street--and hundreds more--and say "there's no art there" just proves that any enjoyment you get from reading lies only in seeming intellectual to others and reveling in that perceived intellectualism, rather than engaging with a writer's creation. It's also overwhelmingly sad. In my experience, the adults that look down on kid literature--despite it being these very books that made them love reading in the first place--tend to be incapable of finding joy in the smaller aspects of life, or in any piece of art that isn't critically acclaimed so they have some proof that their taste is better than other people's.

you ever think about how there might have been some college athlete living in he tower who had to hear Andrew and Neil's convo late at night on the roof cause they were on the last floor and opened their window
imagine hearing the 'youre a pipe dream' or stuff like that while you're brushing your teeth or putting together a late night snack or trying to fall asleep or something

I don't want to be a snitch but I found these three cow children on the road, adventuring, completely unchaperoned.
As I drove past I was like girls I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be going where you're going and one after the other they glanced at me insolently like mind your OWN business

Eddie addressing the entire party in a Tiktok while he is very clear speed walking through a store: I don’t know why none of you fuckers are responding to my text messages but why is Steve mad at me?? Whyyyy when I pulled up to my house, could I hear Tears for Fears in my driveway????? I swear to god if I don’t a response in the next five minutes, I will nuke every single one of your characters in the next Hellfire. I’m not even kidding.”
Also Eddie: do you think Steve will like this? *holds up a mango*
Robin, like two hours later: Dufus, Steve is allergic to mangos

What bothers me the most about these "I've never read the source material" #feminist #queer retellings is that retellings are, at the bare minimum, in conversation with a source material. This is true whether or not you have actually read the story you are attempting to retell. Refusing to read the source just means your conversation is now one-sided, which is detrimental to any hope of furthering the discussion or themes or narrative. So now you've interrupted a conversation with an aside that ultimately adds nothing because it doesn't know enough about what was said previously to be able to respond or build upon it. And I just...don't get it! Why would you want to tell a story that way? Why would you decide to put an addition onto a house without looking at the architectural blueprints?

While Danny is away at college, Ellie destabilizes. By the time she gets into contact with him, it's so bad to the point where even with Frostbite's help, she barely stabilizes. During this whole process, Ellie's body kept getting younger and younger as it diverted as much energy as possible to save itself. Now that she's stable, Danny has a two year old on his hands. With no choice, he takes her back to Gotham with him where he can attend college part-time while taking care of her.
Balancing college and single fatherhood all at the age of 19 was a lot harder than he had anticipated. There were many many sleepless nights. So no one can really blame him for going to sleep on the couch while an unconscious vigilante lay in his room. It was the guy's fault anyway. He had snuck into the room through the window when Ellie was sleeping, startling her awake. Danny had immediately switched into protective mode and grabbed the anti-creep stick as he raced to her room. Before he knew it, there was a sobbing toddler in his arms and a crumpled bat on his floor. One of which he decided he wasn't going to deal with tonight. Once again he would like to point out how sleep deprived he was. That's why he left a bag full of his own ice that wouldn't melt and a little note before crashing on the couch with little Ellie snuggled into his chest.

I know Wayne Manor probably looks as normal as possible to avoid visitors suspecting the family's past time activities..
but also I highly doubt Bruce was able to avoid making some obscure changes to the Manor just based on the fact that his children are fucking feral.
Some of the windows are either boarded up, or have cages on them from the inside, and to an onlooker, they'll probably think "Oh those poor kids, being caged inside like animals, unable to get fresh air. I always knew that Wayne guy was sketchy. "
but it's literally just because his kids won't stop launching themselves head-first out of the windows whenever Bruce is mid lecture. doesn't matter if they're on the 4th floor.
sometimes visitors will get a closer look at the inside of the place and see a lot of things baby proofed, which is weird because "Aren't all of Wayne's kids old enough to not get themselves hurt like babies do?"
No, Sharon, do not underestimate the power of 6 hyperactive children combined in a room together, they will absolutely get themselves hurt in some way.
some furniture and objects are just straight up bolted to the floor, and everyone just assumes Bruce is a perfectionist or a micromanager, but Bruce literally had no other option since his fucking kids keep throwing shit at each other, and sometimes they just do it to get the other's attention or because they just felt like it. Sometimes they'll even throw each other
I just need some DC comics that acknowledge that the Manor has some additional features that were integrated after Bruce's countless experiences with each new weird ass child he gains.
