Common Darter and Black-tailed Skimmer at Lakeside Country as we went into summer

One of my greatest dragonfly days of the year at Knepp in July with Scarce Chaser and Southern Hawker seen my first of the year the chaser only my second ever

Migrant Hawkers at Lakeside and seeing them at other places a lot too

A moment I anticipated sparking a run of seeing this stunning dragonfly which was a key foundation to another great dragonfly and damselfly year for me. The run extended to other places in September. I took the seventh picture in this photoset of one at RSPB Radipole Lake.

Azure Damselfly at Lakeside

In some brushing up of my ID knowledge between them and Common Blue Damselfly this year I realized one exciting one I’d seen at Lakeside in May and other sightings across the years were azure, so I was thrilled to see and reconnect to this species this year. I took the eighth picture in this photoset of it.

Late summer and autumn hawkers and darters

A lovely run seeing the Migrant Hawkers and Southern Hawkers and also Common Darters as the season went on especially at Lakeside but elsewhere too. I took the ninth picture in this photoset of a Common Darter at Stour Valley Nature Reserve in September.

Four-spotted Chaser and Blue-tailed Damselfly at Thursley Common in May

I often ticked a pair of species for my year list on days in the beginnings of my dragon and damselfly year and these are species I love that I saw for the first time of the year that special day at a special place for these insects. I got the tenth picture in this photoset of the damselfly. I saw Large Red Damselflies memorably that day too.

15072022 - Supernatural

~

Chuck is gone, and their little family is whole and happy at long last, and very much alive despite all odds, and Dean feels like he can finally draw a breath and not feel like the world is ending.

And so, he does the only thing he knows needs doing.

"Where are we going?" Cas asks as he's being unceremoniously dragged down the hall to Dean's room. "Dean?"

But Dean doesn't say a thing, can't, until his door closes silently, firmly, behind them. And even then, the words come annoyingly hard.

But they do come.

"What you said," he starts, facing away from Cas who still stands by the shut door. "Back before the Empty took you." He inhales, exhales, inhales again. Forces the memory of black ooze stealing the last of his hope out of his mind. "Did you-" he tries, stumbles. Tries again. "Do you-"

Cas takes pity on him, knowing Dean's short-comings and accepting them. "I did, Dean. I still do. I always will."

"You can't promise that."

There's a step, followed by another and then one more.

And something - Cas' forehead, Dean realises after a second - touches the back of his neck. "The only thing I can't promise is that I won't die again, especially now I'm fully human and likely to live the rest of my life as one." His hands cling to Dean's shirt, and Dean wonders if Cas is holding back from hugging him. (He wants Cas to hug him, wants so much more than that.) "But this, this love, what life I have left, all that I am… These are things I can promise you. Should you want them."

And really, what can Dean say to that, when it's everything he's ever wanted and so much more than he ever thought he'd deserve?

"I do," he says, finally turning around to face Cas, face his fears and his future. "I do, Cas."

And then, after twelve long years of being stupid and repressed and terrified, Dean kisses Cas.

And later, much, much later, he’ll try to describe how it felt, and will only be able to sum it up as like finally coming home.

"If you say a sap-"

"No. No… Sweet."

"Dammit, Cas…")
