“How could you” well, it’s quite simple:
1. Start with a somewhat dry welcome-to-my-TED-talk style post about a relatively abstruse topic that’s likely to be of interest to Tumblr users in your blog’s immediate circle of followers.
2. Spend the next several paragraphs constructing what seems to be an argument toward some unspecified conclusion. This conclusion should be vaguely alluded to, but – and this is critical – not directly stated in the post’s opening sentences.
3. At the last possible moment, swerve into a meme, or a shitty pun, or a Homestuck reference, or what have you, then immediately end the post. The closer to end of the post’s final sentence the swerve is, the more effective it will be.
4. Now, here’s the tricky part: once the reader hits the swerve, it must become apparent in hindsight that all that elaborate rhetorical framing you just did was not driving toward a particular conclusion regarding the topic of interest, but was in fact setting up the swerve. In this way, the reader’s expectations are not merely passively frustrated by a non sequitur, but actively betrayed.
And that’s how you piss off a thousand people in one go.

Hey I'm reading Psycholonials and I've decided to start liveblogging it. I'm currently in the middle of chapter 2 and I just wanna get my thoughts out. But I'm going in blind and enjoying it largely for that reason so I'll put my thoughts under a readmore. Idk if I'll keep doing readmores. I'll feel it out. Anyway it's free on Steam right now jsyk.
Here's what's happened so far:
It's about this girl Z living on an island in Nantucket in the middle of covid 19 lockdown. The game starts specifically on April 20th, 2020. She lives on the island and works at a restaurant that's closed due to lockdown and hasn't left her home in months. She was apparently "cancelled" on the internet and had a mental breakdown because of it and dropped out of college and moved to Nantucket. The game is so far conspicuously vague about what people on the internet actually say about her/what she "did" (not that people necessarily need to do something to get cancelled but you know). Anyway she also wrote a manifesto a while back. the way she describes it in chapter two is a socialist/anticapitalist manifesto repackaged in clown lore? About Jubilites which are clowns from a planet called Whimsiphae.
And anyway she gets drunk and tries to drive to her friend's house and crashes into a tree on the way over. A cop shows up and pulls a gun on her when she grabs the manifesto and ends up shooting it (the manifesto). So Z snaps and grabs the cop's gun and kills him. Then, in an effort to get rid of the evidence, drives the cop car into the ocean and reports her own car as stolen. She even frames a guy she harassed on Instagram earlier that day? Then she hides from the cops at her friend's house without telling her what she did.
So like not a great person. so far.
Oh yeah and she also decided to pivot her entire social media presence to hocking the manifesto and making like a movement out of it with clownsonas and everything. Because when she was passed out drunk she had a dream about some creature telling her "her work is not finished" regarding the manifesto.
And I had two thoughts that prompted me to start liveblogging. First, I think the narrative so far ONLY works if Z is Black. Like the characters so far are drawn in Hussie's famous stark-white-but-plausibly-racially-ambiguous style. But there's no way a cop would shoot at a white girl the way Z was shot at during the inciting incident. Also, it's totally believable for a Black girl to get bullied out of fandom spaces for no real reason to the point of having a mental breakdown. Reading Z as white is just causing me to be really uncomfortable about what she "did" to get cancelled (but I honestly believe that's intended at this point).
The second thing is that so far there have been two semi-dismissive homestuck references and I just really hope there's one per chapter. It just comes across so... Idk if you really didn't like it you wouldn't bring it up so much. Like they want the clout of having made homestuck but genuinely hate it.

[S] STRIFE!
Ha ah! Halloween season jumpscare~ You thought you'd seen the last of me (and this liveblog)!
Tumblr media
This 'fight' is funny and laughable. It isn't really to be taken seriously. DAD lighting the candles on the cake can be seen as threatening (and dangerous!) if you was none the wiser that is. It's the boy's birthday, and his dad is aggressively celebrating it. Makes me wonder if strifing really is a custom in Homestuck, or if it's specific for the universes that will play SBURB/SGRUB. Whichever is the case, it's a mock battle is this situation. Or perhaps ageing IS threatening to John. Adulthood (or rather adolescence here) is a scary thing.
Colors, logic, art appreciation
I can't stop appreciating the art style and the dedication to its scarce (for now) details.
Tumblr media
Like here, the very moment the candles are lit the flames go bworh! (damn and all at once?)
That's a transition frame, right? So neat. The nuance between the predominant black and white style and the colors is well-done. Less is more. The 'STRIFE!' logo thingy appears (two colors, kinda echoing to the candles. Flames = threat; but also Rochefoucault's quote from earlier?! hmm thoughts for later) and we have a brand new concept shown to us: Strife options. Aggrieve and abjure. By the way neon green and sky blue goes well together, it almost hints at John's and Jade's exchanged colors duality. Color theory is great once you get the hang of it! Aggrieving is offending someone. Rather than a physical attack, it suggest an emotional one. "I don't want your overwhelming love dad, or your stupid cake". Something among those lines. Also, he's such a dork making those movements with his hands. It looks like pseudo kung fu moves. He attacks and a lot more green appears on screen. Freakin' love the flash game effect on the background, and the simplified Slimer looming behind John, as if it was his familiar/symbolic beast having his back. Comical and kinda scary, with his ridiculous small eyes and large mouth. So he strikes, and is auto-pastried which is a pun on Auto-parry, a term and running gag from its predecessor Problem Sleuth. Still on my color observations (what can I say, I'm an artist that love art) this AUTO-PASTRY! is magenta kinda (but not really) close to the batterwitch's fuchsia. Guess I was too eager with that one. However it's nice to see there's different hue of the same color
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The flashing dual color thing will also be used later for kernelsprites and ^2 sprites (this duo is Jasperosesprite^2's). The joker magnet echoes to the 'auto-pastry!' text, emphasizing the fact that the cake has comical properties.
Then he slides back into his previous position, simple and efficient (battle and artistic choice wise). If Aggrieve was an offensive and active tactic, Abjure is its opposite.
But before he reacts, it's DAD's turn to attack with a RPG naming system, like the Final Fantasy series (probably a tribute). 'Guardian Rubric: Coddlebrand'. Rubric is a title, but can also be a rule or a explanatory note (school). Is 'guardian' here a category or is he actually grading John on the spot? Perhaps the remaining word will shed some light.
Coddle is overprotecting, so that's what John could rejecting. Brand is a label, so is it a category or insincere 'marketing'. Depends on the point of view we position ourselves: Dad's or John's.
Tumblr media
But here's a succinct (even subliminal) text that appears during the cake attack: 'Dotesmite!' What does it could mean? *do some research* Ooooh I see. Crushed by fatherly affection. Smite is hit, but according to world reference there's also a biblical meaning: kill/strike down. John in itself is a biblical name, but I don't see Dad Egbert being cruel to his son. He ain't Abraham. From there there's not much left to do in this flash. I'll just note that the movement effect during the Abjuring is reminiscent of John's windy powers, the blue and yellow colors coincident with his future God Tier outfit. Harmonious improvisation on Hussie part, for sure. Welp! We're done with this first Strife flash. It's writing was very laborious for unknown reasons and I'm very very sorry for 2 months of inactivity. Thank you for your patience, and I'll see you soon for the rest of Act 1. —> Coming soon

fic writer ask game as promised :3 💚 3, 3, 3 (yes, really :3 ), 6, 11, 17
3. What’s a fic idea that you have but haven’t written yet?
Three of these, huh? Hoo boy. Buckle up. (These are all Trigun because that is my current obsession)
1. Time loop/reincarnation AU where 98 reincarnates to Trimax reincarnates to Tristamp. The idea is Vash (and maybe Knives) is the only person who definitely remembers previous loops, and this kind of pervasive tragedy of just... maybe THIS time he can do it, maybe THIS time he can save everybody, maybe THIS time Wolfwood doesn't have to die... Honestly the only reason I haven't written any of it yet is because idk what I want the format/framing device to be. Once I figure that out, it's over for you fuckers.
2. Red string of fate soulmate au. People are born with strings around their fingers that only they can see. The strings tie them to their soulmate(s), and the color of them can change depending on the relationship: red for romantic, blue for platonic, black for antagonistic. The strings are lax if the other person hasn't been born yet, and are "cut" when the other person dies. Vash is born with two strings on his hands: one which ties him to Nai, and one which will eventually tie him to Wolfwood. Dunno what the story is here yet so that's why I haven't written it.
3. I've already mentioned Nikki and the accidental pregnancy fic idea here, so instead I will tell you about the idea where WW's concussion during his fight with Midvalley causes brain damage that even the serum can't repair and leaves him permanently blind. Because he's fucking Wolfwood, he tries to pretend like everything is just fine, he's all healed up and can see perfectly, what are you talking about. (This does not last long.)
6.Have you written any fanfictions featuring OCs? If so, elaborate!
There are two that come to mind. The first is Anne from "Anyone Can Drive A Car..." It's just an outsider POV of Dave's first heat from my omegaverse epic "Smells Like Belonging," and the point of it was to let me establish what is actually normal in this world and not just. What Bro wants Dave to THINK is normal.
The other is "A Decent Sort of Bloke" which features my useless lesbian demon OCs Maggot and Bonecruncher and their long-suffering demonic wingperson, Orzalos. I should... probably fucking finish that fic eventually lol.
11. How many words do you have on AO3 (if you use that platform)
287,920
17. Are there any writers and/or stories that you consider an influence?
Man, it's honestly very difficult to pick out writers or stories that have definitely influenced me, beyond, like... everything I've ever read in my entire life lmao. The ones I can definitely point to as being a specific influence on my writing style are Homestuck, Undertale, Embers by Vathara, The Sacrifice Arc by Lightningonthewave, and @redring91. I want to claim Terry Pratchett as well, but I think if I'm being honest my writing isn't particularly Pratchettian at all, and might actually potentially be more Gaimanic.

Homestuck/MSPA references in Pizza Tower
I'm a big if not slightly late fan to the indie game Pizza Tower. I also, unfortunately, have read Homestuck, and I'm happy to state that despite scouring every piece of content from Pizza Tower I've only found three things that could even slightly constitute as references, if not utter coincidence.
1- Starting with the most likely (IMO)
This one painting attack from the Pepperman fight (left) shares a striking resemblance to the characters from the MSPA, Problem Sleuth (right)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have never heard anyone talk about it which is the main reason why I don't think it really is a reference but the similarities of style seem a little too striking to be coincidental.
2- After this point I believe them to be interesting coincidences more than references.
This comic I think was posted by the Pizza Tower Twitter account but I'm not sure
Tumblr media
The bottom right panel shares similarities to the infamous frame of a SBaHJ comic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hand movements are only vaguely similar but the facial expressions sell it for me.
3- I honestly don't believe this to be a reference but it's a coincidence that I found and I want to point out.
In the "WAR" secret track, I believe to be named "My secret war crimes," near the end of the track there are similarities to the homestuck songs "Beatdown" and "Beatup"
That's my contribution to society for today. Thanks for listening.

My Journey Through Homestuck Act 2 (Part 2)
Hello! Sorry for the delay! I have been on vacation, and have been additionally been delayed by other factors such as exhaustion and the Barbie movie, which was very good. This will go from page 002285 to 002419.
(Yes, I know I use the word "interesting" a lot in this. These are supposed to be written with little thought or proof-reading.)
-Before I give any takes about the work itself, I just want to quickly acknowledge that it has been a bit since my last Homestuck post, and therefore, there is some concern around how the language of Homestuck will still translate. We will see what this becomes.
-I was about to write an entire paragraph about how Homestuck's writing style emulates the way ideas are made fun of in old literature. I didn't do this because much of that old literature is kinda bad, and I didn't want to even seem to glorify it, nor did I want to make anyone who doesn't consume old literature feel like I believe it to be required reading (I don't). Basically the work utilizes strong opinions to comment on the tropes surrounding the characters, say Dave and "The Cool Guy".
-It's interesting that both John and Rose despise the dominant hobby of their household (Harlequins and Wizards), but Dave seems to like the Ventriloquist Dummies of his own. One wonders if Dave is lying to himself, or at the very least if he has been conditioned to believe he likes Dummies. Granted this is most likely just him overly admiring his older brother and basing much of his identity around his brother.
-It's interesting how the narrative is using the concept of monsters (which was cleverly foreshadowed by the Little Monsters discussion) in order to play on monster under the bed tropes, though it's even more interesting how John has theoretically grown out of it even in the face of danger. One wonders then, if the fundamental basis of the reality of Homestuck, that being children being correct about the universe, is something that these teenagers are just beginning to lose their grasp on. The question remains: Does aging in Homestuck take away one's ability to accurately process reality?
-Wow, I can't believe Rose stabbed her mom :I
-Oh. OH-NO. THAT'S NOT A VERY FUNNY JOKE
-I'm sure I'll have an entire analysis of Homestuck's combat, but I have a feeling we'll see more of it, so I'll wait until then.
-Is this a... game manual? Interesting.
-This does show an interesting look at how game manuals (or at least good ones) are designed to help the reader understand the fundamental gameplay of a video game. However, this acknowledges the way that the logic of these manuals, when applied to human life via a "For Dummies" book can be condescending and make one feel as though they do not understand the basic aspects of living. I don't necessarily think this about "For Dummies" necessarily. In fact, I applaud the efforts to help someone who feels clueless feel capable (though I have never read a "For Dummies" book). Rather, this series of books is a good framing device for how the logic of a game manual operates when applied to reality. It seems that the separate basis for reality in Homestuck does not forego its complexity.
-Wait, there are generators like this!? How am I just now knowing about this!?
-The hammerhead falling off, yet being what is necessary for John to fight has got to be important.
-Same thing with the W.
-The obtaining of grist via murder is VERY concerning.
-or shale. WHATEVER
-This victory is oddly humorous.
-handlekind
-I question to what extent a strife portfolio negates the established effects and qualifications of a strife deck.
-I will make note of the hammer.
-The dead cat joke is funny
-Rose's captchalog is just so inconvenient to use.
-Why is the kernelsprite TERRIFYING!?
-HA! I KNEW IT! DAVE DOESN'T LIKE THE PUPPETS! (Though this could just be peer pressure)
-I'm gonna use "sometimes I dream" as evidence for my case
-Wait, so is it the kernelsprite or is it the ghost of John's grandmother. Or... both????
-The Medium is an interesting phrase. It calls to mind the term, medium, which refers to a particular form in which a piece of media can take on. This is fascinating because Homestuck takes the form of one medium, comics, but behaves like it is another, video games.
-Well, so much for the future. Though as it stands, the Medium seems to just be a less fucked up version of SCP-3001.
-yep... definitely akin to SCP-3001.
-I'm going to note the implication that future person also seems to not be aware of the functionality of what is happening.
-Woah that's a lot of info. There's so much to unpack here.
-Okay, first thing's first. This is the first big infodump of Homestuck. Here is where we exit the basis of reality and where we enter reality, and potentially face the inevitable irrelevancy of that basis to begin with.
-also for now I'm gonna ignore how the grandma knows this under the assumption that her existence as a kernelsprite is essentially why.
-So, if Skaia contains unlimited creative potential, and if we go under a theory that creativity forms the foundation of new universes, say, a reality where a video game destroys the Earth, this could be the basis of all reality itself. Alternatively, it is at the very least what allows one to have some chance of understanding reality.
-The concept of "forces of light" and "forces of dark" are in some way which the basis of reality goes from childlike to childish. I question if this binary may question itself in some way. That being said, I am very concerned by the implication that John (or more accurately the current Sburb devs) has doomed all creativity.
-Wait, is kernelsprite even accurate anymore?
-Hm... four orbs. Four protagonists. That's totally not concerning.
-The comparison with a game of chess is interesting. Chess is, in theory at least, a game of pure strategy, with little chance involved. The only chance involved is in the skill and mental state of the individuals playing, forgoing destiny entirely, so it is interesting to hear that good is doomed. The logical conclusion, then, is that something is inherently flawed about the forces of light.
-I'm curious how John's journey is beyond that of good and evil.
-I wonder to what extent this will continue to take place in the protag's respective houses.
-There's an interesting duality between the refuting of John having responsibility regarding the inevitable destruction of the planet and the pure disregard for the destruction of innocent life.
-I may have to refute my previous assumption that reality in Homestuck is that of the kids. Rather, it is perhaps a cosmic horror story universe whose assumed false reality is that of the kids, though good and evil are again childish.
-Nevertheless, the complexity of this explanation may very well be the reader's last warning to turn back. I'll admit I had to go through it a couple times to get it.
-It is interesting that despite all of John's grandmother's knowledge, she, like his father, still fails to grasp the basic concept that John might not enjoy sweets.
-Wow, Rose and Sburb is literally me and Homestuck. I am aware I made this same joke in the last post (albeit regarding Dave).
-The true war between the narrator and future guy
-canned MUSTARD!?
-The human etiquette book concerns me, especially since it is already vaguely implied that John is being mind controlled by future guy.
-VANILLASPRITE!?
-I would argue that the harlequin that prototyped the Vanilla sprite was a symbolic image of a person, which would imply that a comic book would work to produce a talking Vanillasprite.
-So, if I'm understanding correctly, the fundamental basis of the medium depends on the fundamental point of view, actions, and mentality of the player, along with the sprite.
-Going off of Rose's explanation, one wonders to what extent this entire infodump is just a game, or rather, actually not that significant in the grander scheme of things, though it may be better to ask what is happening outside of a singular game of Sburb to begin with.
-If I am to understand correctly, a different version of the plot of Homestuck may have canonically happened to someone else elsewhere.
-Additionally, there is another question regarding destiny here. I speculated before that good is not destined to lose, but rather there is a trait or quality of it that makes it, to a trained eye, obviously doomed to fail. Similarly, one might ask the question, were the four protags destined to play together or was there some clear way for the game to predict that? Even in terms of computer programs (albeit fantasy ones), the computer only needs to put together a network of players who own the game, and analyze their communications to make an educated guess as to who would form a chain, though I'll admit that does ignore other factors that would allow for a smaller chain. That proposal does beg a remaining question though. What is the difference between predictability and fate? (compare this to an algorithm)
-The revelation Rose has of the sheer power of Sburb to change everything regardless of the player's desire is so tragic.
-Also, could this just be a metaphor for online roleplay/dnd?
-This was already a reasonable guess, but I'm guessing John was in Summer in the present, not that that really matters.
-I may need a new hobby too (though I imagine that if I were to start knitting that I would do so while listening to SCP podcasts or something in that vein, not that a lot of other people who knit don't already do so under similar circumstances. Anyway if you knit, I think you're cool. Please don't kill me)
-After all this analysis, I cannot even begin to unpack the whole "mean the opposite of what you say thing"
-Rose may very well be a better version of me from another timeline.
-WHAT. THE. FUCK?
-Hmm... the strange attributing of odd statements to poets who did not say that (I think) is interesting. I have thoughts, but I'll pocket them for now.
-Also, I find Dave's perspective on the apocalypse interesting, it makes one wonder how a total shut in is experiencing this.
-Why do the striders have to be the way they are?
-It is interesting to see Dave question his feelings about puppets more
-Oh the dream to play Skate 3 and existence is laughing at funny glitches. Could not be me (anymore).
-WHAT'S THE PASSWORD?
-Despite everything I've said in the past about adventure game design I do wonder why Dave doesn't just look for the game and leave? I will admit this is me being judgemental of Dave, which I have been outspokenly.
-Cal will be the death of me.
-omg time is so relative here
-mmm. Monsters. Sad.
-This is a good time to acknowledge that watching Homestuck via dub rather than reading it on the site or on the post-flash download has some strange consequences, such as when say, an actual video game pops up. I will say though that I would not have gotten this far on the original comic. Last time I tried, I couldn't even get to a mention of Sburb.
-I'm going to guess that musical instruments have some significance. An apparent expression of creativity perhaps? 17 year old AP Lit me would be drooling in symbolism (yet 22 year old me can't figure out what "abject" means)
-EB and TT hating cookies
-wow, grinding in Homestuck? I hope Act 3 isn't just killing the same 5 monsters on loop
-Does Dave like puppets indeed?
-Also stairs
-I'm fascinated by the way that dads are defined in Homestuck, particularly with the understanding of the particular way that Homestuck deals with reality.
-Grandma, would you please mass produce me some grist? I'll love you forever.
-I can hear DNA in this music. Undertale DNA to be exact.
-FUTURE GUY HAS RETURNED!
-Wow, I love refrigerators!
-I think Captchalogs are just kind of inconvenient, aren't they?
-Mind control is terrifying
-No not Sans Kernel, Sans UNDERTALE
-I like how Rose mistakes Future Guy's meddling for a game mechanic
-Hand-to-hand combat is important? Curious
-Future Guy isn't that bright, are they?
-Rose is breaking
And.... that's it for part 2. Part 3 will be the remainder of Act 2. I also intend to write extended thoughts for Act 1, followed by extended thoughts for Act 2. No confirmation on when or what order any of these will be uploaded in.

Sorry for going nutso insane mode but I’m literally already thinking of the logistics of making her like
Can add a tassel to existing pearl earring by looping it around post. Luckily she seems to only have one, and it’s on the ear where my lobe piercing doesn’t close itself after every single time I wear earrings.
sheer tights turned into a top, the feet turned into homestuck-style glove arm socks with nails glued on
Overdress pattern looks like you can goose a jumpsuit like splitting the legs apart. Would probably pattern off this old navy dress I never wear bc it’s super tight and low cut on me actually. I’d be more self conscious about how I look since I’m a chubby lass but I look hot in that dress so it should be fine, adapt the outfit to your body and not the other way around.
Mid length mint wig with long ponytail claw clip, felt base to keep the shapes flat for her bangs and feathers, pva glue, and then I guess like. A second wig or weft for the black part on top
Can’t easily find red bottom half rim glasses so the move here might actually be to get cheap clear or rimless glasses and add the red frame - if clear, paint the plastic, or like… model magic? I’m not confident sanding that. Acrylic or 3D print it to match frame? Would need to measure and get a friend with access to laser cutter or printer
Most designs on cape and dress can be goosed with freezer paper stencil and just thinned white paint to get that frosted look IMO. Blue stripe can be a ribbon. Gold shit looks like it should be foam or 3D print which is annoying. Would like it better if it was just yellow or gold colored satin.
Feather could be foam, fabric/wire, plastic, actual feather… split long pin into 2 parts and add to either side of a claw clip?
Roommate owns a sewing machine that we don’t have the table space to ever use; I’m much more comfortable with hand sewing (buttons on) “have you ever sewed anything? When you altered your dresses to fit better weren’t they super crooked?” Be that as it may.
The cutout panels in the sheer tights under layer is INSANE and would be better executed as a nude fabric with black details sewn on TOP of the tights. Honestly every design I hate from liyue is the stupid body stockings but this one at least has coverage that makes sense apart from the hips
………honestly gaming has an outfit and hair that’s closer to what I actually look like at this point but. Things we do for love

My #1 post of 2022
Maus was fucking hard to read and I'm so in awe of the way Spiegelman was able to demonstrate the levels of gut wrenching horror that was involved in the Holocaust
Part of it was the story itself. You've got the story of Spiegelman's father who lived and suffered through the camps, the atrocities, and survived purely through his tenacity, wits, and luck. The loss, the suffering, the abject misery, you get Art's father's perspective through it all instead of the perspective of a businessman who finally grew a consciousness, or a boy who befriends another child in a camp
Then the framing. It's illustrated, it's kind of cartoony, and if you were me, you pick it up knowing it's about the Holocaust and yet in no way prepared for what's coming. When you watch cartoons, you see Tom chasing Jerry, but it's funny because you know it's a cartoon and everything will be fine. Tom never catches Jerry. When I saw the cartoon style here, knowing what I did of what happened in the Holocaust, the first scene that lays out just how fucking awful it was hit me in the gut hard. It's a cartoon, it can't possibly be that bad. But it's worse. And if the illustration was more realistic, pearl clutchers would have been too busy crying about how damaging violence is to the poor children, way too busy to see the story for what it truly was, a masterpiece of... I don't been know, man, but Maus was fucking impactful

I stipped a school shooter then brought back their victims, met an old friend of mine who shot up a school. I was there imaginary friend, he had a list. I drank tea and time traveled when all of that was over to the historical period. They instantly recognized me as "zone capot" and "the doctor" as I met Churchville. He thanked me for helping with his presidency despite disagreeing on everything and as always I know nothing of history so going in blind I gave suggestions! I fcuked over red hood via DC comics by bringing him back with my selective insanity in the Lazarus pit so I took beatings and a punishment of the tanack as a gift here. Then I gave this world's beast boy his powers after they were bestowed upon me by a magick monkey! Long story. I am the multiverse as a human being. A concept breathed life into. And my ex friends snowf the salt queen and Morgan Hoffman keep trying to enslave me as Snow yanderefreak and her boyfriend Ricky and morgan have astral raped me via tearing my mind apart for answers and actually physically adjusting me through magick.
Same with Haru twice now, after I told IT sorry sorry him, I understood his shitty as dollkin. I have learned that I am the God of toys Amirtia or Agzontay lots of names and every play pretend is in part how the gods divine fate and learn of prophecy sometimes even choose it as souls, every child gets a choice, and that choice is on bhelaf and in line with the soul via games. Children are so much closer to new souls and spirits and God then anything relative to adult humanity.  And divinity often feels like sexuality. Did I ever tell you about how I sculpted the cosmos in the mental ward?
Anyways I've initiated a curse war between snow Oliver and I via the ego of her rapist father. Regardless! It's so awkward when people who worship your aspects hate you! Like bitch I am erideil, lucofer, and Samiel and if you can't acsept that you can't acsept lucifer! It's literal!!!!!
Anyways! The multiverse as a person is me and I'm slowly but surley bestowing upon people superpowers in this reality I really got to introduce Garfield and Roy they kept their names bloody hell! As the god Shiro every self harm marka ND cut on my arm indicates a life or problem solved or saved. I am the Kami suciide and my human sacrifices are school shootings which I've been saving people from. This is the one time I sugest searching the dorm.
Also to be noted, I've been taking a paint brush to several cults fixing what was harming people and what was wrong with them. Meeting Japanese parliament as Yi and singing shitty Hamilton.
Anyways! I've been borrowing bad people's karma in order to save the world and them and improve the record and still save. I have learned how to change my face upon death.
Also I've learned I have trippy dream Demon powers where I can cause hallucinations, madness, delusions compeling straight up vampire style and save people through it. So that's what I've been doing! Saving people! Alot of people!!!!!!! I am Zone first Captor!
Anyways I took Kami/dj on my student and it was the biggest mistake of my life! One, a racist asshole towards me calling me transatlantic, 2 a huge ableist using his disability to harm others 3, made from of my alter Ehmo who is an aztec king! Who hoped to become a fashion and music and Wene one day. He's a piece of shit and he's no longer my student also used magick to sexually and phychically assault me in a bubble but then claimed it was "magick" so it didn't matter. Then back tracked saying it was an alter so "there white niger im off scot free" it…it…it wasn't an alter it was the main personality you homestuck Dave strider wanabe.
Anyways! All that inclined with everyone stealing each others shoes and snow getting red pulled quickly down an alt right rabbit hole and swatsticing a syngog wow fuck yanderefreak! I've made sure the proper channels know but they plan on framing me as being with them if I report it. Bitch I was home and I did report it! Also haru taped it you cunts! I'm not on that video!
Anywaaaaaays. Kami Strilonde wanwbe, kid swap homestuck wanabe, is attempting to learn voodoo curse magick to hex me to fall inkove with him and I have a reversal spell to turn him into my dog should that occur.
Haru is a bad doll!
Anyways the thing with voodoo is that it always comes back. Enjoy being raped Kami that's how voodoo fucking works. It's karmic and you can't "get around it via dave strider powers" you can't outsmart a karmic clock it will only tick forward faster.
Also unfortunately thr gods have made me imortal via Thor and zues and anti and Eruis and now I can only die one of two ways and you probably won't figure it out. I've taken 74 sleeping pills, spilt gallons of blood in both my wrists, taken alchual and 7 sleeping pills which Braiden Summers friend challenged me to do claiming they were with haru medusastuck laughing in the background, all while they deny even knowing me. Shitty puzzlingkazoo and Crocker. Who all enjoyed that they told me as much. Crocker calls me a suicidal manic "bitch your one to talk! Joke might be an asshole but you certainly aren't any better truescum stick together you two would be perfect hatemates you both abuse your partners!" And we all knew SHE KNEW that gun was loaded she told me as much.
But that was all magick how am I supposed to tell the cops? Oh yeah the dream bubbles and I visited in a memory!
Regardless Morgan has been raping me via his offerings of sex and assaulting in my temple himself and other "but it's not real magick and your not a fake God it's so okay!" Wow what a fucking sociopath!!!!?
Snow was to right to hate claire she's just as bad as Morgan if not more so but snow the salt queens eating disorder curse she casted on claire was a little much! Totally babe!
Anyways, I've been saving people but I'm undoing bringing back Jazz for revelations, Snow doesn't deserve and quite frankly even though she's back and my friend now? NEITHER DO I! take that sincerely your loving necromancer yous crewed over!
E.a Koetting was right about you.

did you see the hd version of the "leak" sdfdhsjfg the cancer symbol is so crunchy
Tumblr media
There we go, an uncrusty version. Still not a GIF (or is it pronounced GIF?) even though single frame panels of HS^2 are usually saved as one.
I still feel like most of my previous thoughts on why it's unlikely this is real/why it's hard to argue it's fake stand, but someone did point out that "the logo being crooked" is because it's a stand, which is much more clear now: I guess it's not a laptop but a tablet.
Someone also pointed out that whoever drew this panel didn't fill in Jane's glasses all the way, missing out on the joke of her glasses being her actual eyes.
However, this also falls into how HS^2 can be fairly inconsistent, as that happens all the time in the bonus updates (despite them outright using the joke [while also referencing an older HS panel, meaning HS^2 does have precedent in doing so]).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seems like the symbol is like that because they actually redrew Karkat's symbol rather than copying it from his shirt (both of which Homestuck did sometimes).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It also wouldn't have even been strange if they just used Karkat's head, if anything a clear sprite might've made it more beleivable as the comic itself doesn't have one without the dark lighting of the scene, except in the patreon updates).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You could put into question on what determines the symbol being surrounded by black or white, or why the bubble is darker than in Homestuck, however, HS^2 has previously utilized this coloring of darker bubbles with filled in with white, and even a drawn bubble filled in with grey shortly prior, and there's even natively PNG panels, here and there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This all just goes back to how the "difficulty" in arguing about how fake this is or isn't doesn't really lie in how well it captures the style of the comic, but how inconsistent the comic is on its own (which to be fair, extends to Homestuck as well and its many styles and occasional errors). and one's own level of gullibility

Day 5: Imaginary Friends and Repressed Subconsciouses
https://homestuck.com/story/836
We open to Dave having the shit - and the softness - beaten out of him by Bro.
https://homestuck.com/story/838
Tumblr media
These are exactly the sort of things a void player would say. This page lends itself to the interpretation that Rose is inverted and acting more like a Witch of Void than a Seer of Light, exactly the same way that Jade is acting like a Seer of Time. (Of course, Rose is either being sarcastic or placating herself. The reality is that, as she pretty much immediately demonstrates, she can’t help but pry for the true underlying meaning of what Jade is saying, grasping at information, and with it, power over her situation.)
I’ve already called attention to the dearth of conversations between these two characters - they’re not going to talk a lot between now and when Rose goes Grimdark. I think it’s just a shame. I wonder if it’s because Rose feels like Jade has her life under control, yearns for that, and in typical Rose fashion, decides that Jade is judging her for her lack of control? She is remarkably cool toward Jade, and I expect that to at least some degree, it’s because she feels inferior to her.
@volatileleporegina and I had a discussion on Discord where they guess that this is like, the dichotomy between Seers and Witches.
Tumblr media
Rose probably envies the fact that Jade has her shit together. Witches are at their best and their happiest when they can go apeshit, seize control of a situation, and act completely on instinct. Seers are at their best and their happiest when they have inner peace, control of their situation, and control over their emotions.
More after the break.
https://homestuck.com/story/845
More speech patterns here. John does not use a lot of prepositions, and his language is very hesitant - he rarely asserts anything important, and has a pretty strong tendency to use phrases like “I guess, I figure, I think, I might” and so on and so on.
John also talks like he’s from the west coast of the USA, at least in a caricaturish way - he uses a lot of old school surfer slang that got co-opted into generic cool culture, like rad, although not nearly to the same extent as later parody character Latula.
https://homestuck.com/story/855
As a character who will eventually be revealed to be a Hero of Hope, Grandpa Harley dwells in the realm of fantasy. While he fills the mould of the idealized adventurer-hero - a true Pulp Fiction Macho Genius Archaeologist in the mould of Doc Savage or Indiana Jones, his relationship with other human beings is more... theoretical.
I wonder if it says anything about Hope in general that all of the Heroes of Hope in the story are practically incapable of having positive relationships in their lives? Before I tended to chalk Jake’s failure up to being a Page, and simply needing more time, but Eridan and Cronus sabotage all of their relationships as well.
Perhaps I’ll come back to this train of thought in the future. For now, Grandpa and Jake alike are characters who I consider wretches, and pitiable wretches at that. I have far less patience for Grandpa though. More of that as we go.
I should be open about the fact that, while I’ve been a bit more forgiving with Mom Lalonde, the fact is that, with the exception of Dad Egbert, I consider all four of the Beta Guardians to be abusive parents; Nanna is an exception as well if she is counted to be one of the guardians). Their conduct in raising their children is at the very least inexcusable, although if they demonstrated any repentance, it would perhaps be forgivable; in all their cases, by the end of the comic, it is too late for that (although they get another lease on life through the Alpha Kids, which if you don’t mind me showing my hand, I think is the entire point of the Alpha Kids from a storytelling perspective- reconciliation of the parents with the children.)
https://homestuck.com/story/859
One thing I have always liked about Jade is that she does not negotiate with terrorists. You go girl :)
https://homestuck.com/story/874
Rose lives in either Ontario or Upstate New York. I think someone found that the coordinates of her house are in Rainbow Falls.
It seems odd to me for no reason at all that Rose would be a Canadian when all of the other characters in the comic are ambiguously American, and there are a number of other reasons it would fit for Rose to be from upstate NY, not the least of which is that it is a part of Lovecraft Country, and the home of the principle madman from HP’s “Beyond the Wall of Sleep,” a story about a hick from Upstate New York who has insane dreams that he cannot express with his limited vocabulary. It turns out that this unassuming crazy person is actually a mortal manifestation of an extra-dimensional star-god, and he forms a friendship with the viewpoint character, an intern at the hospital where he has been institutionalized. While the magic dreams ultimately prove to be too much for the mortal frame and give him a heart attack, he contacts his friend the intern via a dream to express to him that he dearly hopes that the two of them meet again one day beyond the wall of sleep.
Another reason is that I’ve always viewed Rose as being an extremely affected person. Nobody talks the way that Rose talks - her words are all extremely deliberately chosen in a way that doesn’t fit the pattern of the other characters’ more stream-of-consciousness writing styles. Rose thinks in Prose, whereas her friends all write like they talk. I like to imagine, for this reason, that Rose has a transatlantic accent like Katharine Hepburn, which is to say, a learned accent. Back in old-timey times, actors, newscasters, the wealthy, and so on would take classes to learn how to pronounce words in a sophisticated way that nobody naturally spoke in - a bit like Received Pronunciation on the other side of the pond. It’s long since died out, but it fits the sort of affected, stuffy, faux-aristocratic manner that Rose styles herself with. It’s a blend of Manhattanite and Londoner pronunciation, and I think it suits her.
Anyway, there you go. There’s something that you just learned about my inner life and how I think way too much about tiny details like “What would Rose’s voice sound like?”
https://homestuck.com/story/876
Dave lives in Texas. For this reason, I have decided that he sounds like a cowboy. No particular cowboy, just some cowboy.
Jade lives in the Pacific Ocean, and I have a very specific head voice picked out for her - Anna Paquin, particularly young Anna Paquin who portrayed Sheeta in Castle in the Sky, although I’ve always imagined Jade to have a much broader kiwi accent.
https://homestuck.com/story/879
I wonder if Nanna’s oven works at all like Biscuits’?
https://homestuck.com/story/893
Nothing ever really came of Dr. Brinner’s mail. Law of Conservation of detail tells us that he might be one of pipefan413′s coworkers (maybe fedorafreak?) but we’ll never know.
https://homestuck.com/story/905
It’s not totally clear to me exactly what’s going on here, but I have a couple of theories.
Theory #1: This is Mom Lalonde’s childhood room from when she grew up. It makes sense to me that the Lalonde House and the Lab might be a package deal, especially since we see Roxy growing up in a similar setting, but with far more prolific modular structures.
Theory #2: As theory #1, but this is also Mom Lalonde’s current accommodation. Tea parties and tea seem to be shorthand in Homestuck for immaturity and avoidance in particular - characters like Nepeta, Mom, and Grandpa use Tea Parties to retreat into childish fantasy instead of confronting the real, hard problems they have to deal with.
https://homestuck.com/story/919
Jade’s strife with Grandpa might lend some credence to the idea that she uses imaginary friends (who are also us, the audience!) to cope with her loneliness.
https://homestuck.com/story/926
Even the extraordinary cynicism and antipathy of Rose Lalonde can’t resist adorable kittens.
https://homestuck.com/story/935
Jaspers’ secret seems to be the genetic code of a First Guardian, although whether Rose actually got it from this mysterious kitty-cat, or whether it was buried in her subconscious all along is probably a coin flip. (I would put my money on the subconscious thing.)
https://homestuck.com/story/938
For all her pretension, Rose Lalonde is a sad thirteen year old girl whose mother spends too much time sozzled to help her make sense of a confusing and chaotic world. It would be nice for her to be able to make sense of the world and get some sense of constancy, but then part of the point of Sburb is to teach its players that nothing in life is constant.
https://homestuck.com/story/949
Resolving some of the uncertainty around his Dad will allow John to consciously perceive the graffiti he’s been subconsciously scribbling around his room. You knew that already, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is a big deal for him. I’ll take a stab at why this is the case - one of the recurring motifs in Homestuck is characters avoiding uncomfortable truths through avoidance and stagnation - if they don’t want to think about something, they really really don’t think about it, to the point of not being able to perceive it at all. Here, John magically gains the ability to see some of the graffiti drawn by his dream self by being confronted with the truth about his Dad. For other characters, I think, it will be less magical.
https://homestuck.com/story/965
Calling attention to John’s lexicon again, I feel like it’s an overlooked fact that he uses turn of the decade hacker slang a lot too - just peppers his language with it.
https://homestuck.com/story/980
Jade, like John, actually has two separate Guardians - her deceased bio-parent, and this devilbeast. The terminology for these white-and-electric-green monsters, First Guardians, suggests that from a mythological perspective, they function as Ur-Parental figures, raising a civilization to adulthood so that its members can go on to play Sburb, participating in the reproductive cycle of the Universe.
https://homestuck.com/story/988
The fact that Mom Lalonde’s “Room” is full of booze supports my hypothesis that she still lives in her little girl’s lab bedroom.
Rose doesn’t make a big deal out of what’s in her Mom’s bedroom the way that John is, but I think that her exploration of the laboratory serves as effectively a long-form version of the same experience that John has just had. They’re both learning plenty about their enigmatic guardians.
Rose is a smart girl. She’s figured out what is going on, even if she hasn’t thought about it at the surface-level of the narration yet.
https://homestuck.com/story/1004
John Egbert is a young man who does not really like himself very much.
https://homestuck.com/story/1023
The very first time Rose shows genuine vulnerability to pretty much anyone in the comic. “Maybe I am just being a friend?”
https://homestuck.com/story/1028
Dreams in Homestuck are material events than can have material effects on the characters’ reality - but on the other hand, spending loads of time dreaming can prevent you from having a meaningful effect on your session.
Homestuck is a little ambivalent about dreams but I think it’s safe to say that something close to is stance would be to say that what goes on unacknowledged inside of your head is still a part of you even if you can’t perceive it. Characters who spend all of their time in dreams though, paradoxically won’t make all that much progress toward actually understanding it. Tavros and Jade both spend loads of time in their dreams on Prospit, and while Jade does it because she has Vriska-induced narcolepsy, I think we’re supposed to draw a line from one to the other.
Neither of them is in an emotional state to tough out the process of digging up what’s beneath the surface, and resolving the tension between what’s inside of them and what’s outside of them.
https://homestuck.com/story/1049
This creepy little guy is here because Gamzee sent him. I’m going to pay careful attention to the sequence of events that leads him here, because I have a hunch that John’s weird clown fixation somehow leads to Gamzee’s.
https://homestuck.com/story/1064
The fact that the Joker only has two holes in his punchcard suggests that clowns come very close to being elemental in the Homestuck universe.
That is not a surprise.
https://homestuck.com/story/1069
We’ll conclude the day with John’s alchemy session, and come back tomorrow where I’ll finally get around to stating another one of Homestuck’s major throughlines. For now though, I’ll point out that pretty much everything John has created here has some kind of Dad imagery or another (Although all the Cosby gags have aged incredibly poorly, don’t forget that at one point he was America’s Dad!)
With the possible exception of the Bunny Wizard hat which combines some Rose imagery with some John imagery! No wonder she thought it was as cool as he did.
For now, Cam signing off, something something not alone.

Writing Update, Bunny, and Snippet(s)
So! While searching for porn I found a series called Taming Riki on Amazon, which is apparently original fan fic of Ai no Kusabi. It is not very good fan fic, and only semi okay porn. It reminded me very much of the kind of yaoi porn one used to be able to find on LJ in the early 2000s. I did end up reading it, but was very impatient with it. (Writer, have you ever actually met human beings? I wonder!)
This somehow led to reading Ai no Kusabi fan fic. Which was very odd since I was not impressed with the Ova! (I am probably not going to read the novel(s) since they apparently end in Bury Your Gays Under Piles of Rubble.) Anyway, the AnK fan fic seems to tend toward the "rewrite canon so characters survive" variety. And is often quite optimistic that the mains could have a relationship.
Bunny 1: Due to the part where Iason "Why is my surname a Mustelid, it must be because I fuck like Weasels" Mink is an android he was never actually in danger because all you need to do is down load a backup. Problem: he keeps crashing because Riki was made of meat, and he does not know how to grieve. Jupiter POV as they/it/she tries to get Iason back to operational parameters. (Ricky don't you lose my number plays ironically in the background.)
Bunny 2: Almost exactly like AnK except with Homestuck style quadrants. So much quadrant vacillation. SO MUCH.
Speaking of Homestuck, I've been working on Rebel and Conqueror! I have also been working on Pernstuck, and the next installment of The Yiling Almanac ("the young master most likely to be found disappearing into the kitchen garden") Wei Ying's love of potatoes is featured. (I need to find Ursula Vernon's rant on potatoes.) I've also managed to get some writing done on Build a Life from Scratch. However, I'm slightly frustrated because I can't segue over the GHB/Signless debate. And I hate debates.
Snippet the First: (Rebel and Conqueror)
Trolls had all kinds of mind control powers. They could terrorize you into catatonia or turn you into a puppet. It depended on the caste though. Lower castes tended to have telekinesis powers, higher up the scale started to be telepathy and fear projection. At the very top it was mostly resistance to the mind control powers (and you suspected, regeneration and other weird shit you've only heard rumors about). It probably made sense to trolls to keep you away from Vantas, if things like what happened to you happened a lot. “He’s fuchsia,” you say, and even as you say it, you know it’s a stupid thing to say. Vantas doesn’t need to have been the one to fuck with your head, with or without the pheromones. “Is there any proof he had anything done to my head? Aside from fucking with it just by being his normal asshole self?”
“No evidence was found in the initial investigation,” the Dolorosa admits.
"So he didn't do anything," you say. "So I think I should get to see him sentenced." You pause, looking down at your hands. "For closure. Since I'm not allowed to be in contact with him anymore." The Dolorosa gives you an odd look. It's part concern and part curiosity, and you realize what you said might sound like. "It isn't Stockholm Syndrome," you tell. "I don't feel dependent on him for safety or something." You just want to know what's going on with him. "And don't ask if I want to see him, because that opens the entire do you want to be his kismesis can of worms, and the answer to that is still and will always be fuck no."
The Dolorosa smiles a little at that. "That's understood," she says. "Would you want to be in contact? From what I understand that also seems to be an issue."
"So, troll doctors don't have confidentiality?"
"I think you've made it clear that it's an issue outside Doctor Coyotl's office," the Dolorosa says. "It would be hard to keep common knowledge confidential." Her tone is dry. "Wanting to see him doesn't necessarily correlate to wanting to be in a kismesis with him."
"I want to see him," you say. "I don't know about contact. Maybe I want to ask what he thought he was going to do, raising my kid and screwing with me at the same time. How he thought that was going to work. What was he going to tell my kid about me, if he thought he was going to get away with it. Maybe I want him to delete that fucking 'I hate you' wall he has. Maybe I want to point and laugh at all the 're-education' he's going to go through."
"He already knew he wasn't going to get away with it," the Dolorosa says.
"What's the Black Tower like?" you ask, veering slightly off the subject.
"A prison," the Dolorosa says. "Or in some ways a hospital. I'm sure Pyrope has explained some of the details."
"Re-educated, supervised visits, supervised everything, Earth still conquered but the Viceroy can't have a hate boyfriend, yeah."
"Among other possible punishments," the Dolorosa says. "But those are the most likely." She pauses. "Are there any penalties you'd prefer?"
"Be pretty stupid for me to ask for execution, wouldn't it? Maybe ironic after all the effort not to kill me." Probably also stupid to suggest it to his grandmother, but she asked. "Maybe freedom for Earth and he doesn't have command of anything bigger than one of those ships you stick in a bottle. But freedom isn't on the table either."
The Dolorosa doesn't lecture on the benefits of imperial rule. Instead she says, "Dr. Coyotl mentioned that you had been losing a considerable amount of time during your captivity." She decaptchalogues a data grub, and sets it down on a low table by the couch. It's stubs around a couple inches before curling up, mandibles opening and shutting. You absolutely do not want to pick it up. "This data grub contains the complete security footage from your time on the then-Viceroy's ship. After viewing this, we can discuss if and when you can see him."
"I have to watch the home movie if I want to see him?" you ask. The Dolorosa nods. You know that you're stalling. (You still don't want to pick the data grub up.)
"You can watch it on your own, or with your partner, Rose Lalonde," Dolorosa says, and gets to her feet to leave.
"Wait," you say. She gives you an inquiring look. "So, if this is the complete footage, that's a lot of hours. What's the amount of hours before you'll let me see Vantas?"
"At least seventy two hours within a twenty four hour time frame," Dolorosa says.
"Okay."
Something resembling manners has you get up and follow her to the door, and see her out. When she's gone, you lean against the bulkhead and shudder all over, face in your hands. You slide down the bulkhead to the deck. Take it in steps. There was a computer in the corner of the living room, built into a desk. It wasn't too organic or alarming in appearance. Get the grub to the computer, and open the files. Did you really want to watch it on your own? Did you want Rose there, knowing how badly she wanted to kill Vantas? (It takes a moment to wrap your head around the way the argument wants to phrase Rose's presence as a negative. You don't want me her to be hurt. You don't want her to hurt Vantas.) Did you want to watch it, already knowing what you were going to see? (All the parts you couldn't remember and all the parts you could.)
"This is bullshit," you say, half hoping for a comment from the intercom. "You're hoping I don't watch, which will prove I shouldn't see Vantas." You don't get an answer.
With cringing fingers you pick up the grub (soft squashy urgh) drive and stick it in the port. As the drive opens you send a message to Rose: so i have umptybillion hours of video footage to go through before they'll let me see vantas please come hold my hand. You don't get an immediate reply, so you start going through the files.
You see that you have lots of raw footage. As far as you can tell, no editing was done at all. You are going to be doing a lot of skipping and fast forwarding, is what you're saying. Opening the first file, you get started. It starts with him getting you into his ship, and his quarters. Your hands clench as you watch yourself wake up, the combination of anger and panic on your face as he fucks you, how it turns to lust and desperation. You fast forward.
You fast forward a lot. A lot of this, you remember, and don't much want to go over it again. From a third person perspective, it's weird watching him with you. Watching you with him. (You don't remember the times you tried to make a shank--three times--or biting him as often as you as you actually did.) You can see the moments of concern or confusion on his face, see him arguing with Egbert and Harley. Or meeting some official. (Those are the times when you can remember having been locked in your room. )
Snippet the Second: (Build a Life from Scratch)
After some more talk you all break camp and head west. As you all walk, you stretch your Aspects out, figure out what they can do. It's at least half way to sense for danger, half to practice. You might lay down a "beat" that Redglare joins in on, that Disciple sings along to, that Zahhak hums absentmindedly. Or Jade and Signless have a "song" that Dolorosa joins in on, accompanied by Disciple. Demoness can sound like an entire choir, with Highblood coming in over the top, "sounding" something like a theremin crossed with a bass fiddle. Dave joins in, and Roxy, doing odd little solos or "duets" with one of the trolls, or with Jade.
The next few nights not much happens. The terrain is uneven, the sky is endless, and the air is muggy and damp. There are a few high-flying clouds that disappear by morning. You can see mountains in the distance, and the glinting snake of a river edged with trees. On the third day, you get closer to the river, it starts to get cloudier and the wind kicks up. In the early evening, you can see the wall of an approaching storm. It's a solid green-black wall, and you can see the trailing mists of rain as it dumps down, along with flickers of lightning. "Well, that's going to suck when it gets here," you say.
At the same time you hear this huge sliding crunch off to the side. Exactly like someone pulled up a whole hell of a lot of chunks of ground, all at once. You turn in that direction and see huge chunks of dirt and rock floating around Jade and the Demoness. "Hopefully we can make it suck less!" Jade says cheerfully. The chunks orbit Jade and Demoness as they began to quickly create a shelter. Everyone helps with pounding the dirt and rocks into a rough shelter big enough to hold everyone plus the not-horses. Demoness and Jade (with help from Alter Dave and Dolorosa) smooth out the inside and make everything solid and waterproof.
You all get inside as the storm hits. Roxy pulls out a couple of battery powered lanterns, and sets them up. "Getting better at that," you say.
She grins. "This trick's kind of fun," she says. "Watch." She shows you everything she can make appear, and then disappear. She starts with green cubes, then goes on to various toys, a pair of shoes, a laptop computer, a 3rd Edition Dungeon and Dragons Player's Handbook and DM Handbook. And various sets of dice. And a DM screen. "So, how about a game?"
"That game's for nerds," you scoff.
She rattles one of the clear tubes of dice at you. "Dirk, you are in fact a nerd." She tosses the tube at you, and you catch it reflexively. She also tosses one at Alter Dave, who steps back and lets it fall.
"Nah," he says. "I want to be Debbie."
Roxy laughs, eyes a little bright. "Rose had a brief stint of leaving Chick Tracts in odd little places. I covered the door to her bedroom with a print of The Time of the Dark."
"The one with the wizard sitting in the kitchen with can of beer?" You ask.
"Yep!"
"Mean," Dave says. "Isn't Hambly kinda homophobic?" Quickly. "Not that I would know, except from what my Rose might have ranted about a time or two because she's read a few of the writer's series. I'm way too cool for wizards."
"Wizards are extremely cool," Roxy says. "And I'm not sure one way or another, except yes, if she had written certain books today the way she had then, she would be up to her ears in angry letters and tweets, because holy crap."
It turns out trolls also have roleplaying games. Redglare, Disciple and Signless join in. To your surprise, so does Demoness. Highblood, the Dolorosa and Zahhak do not.
