Rooster
It was two weeks before Rooster and the rest of the Daggers returned to California. Jules had been taken off the ship two days after the mission, and although the goodbye had been hard, neither was afraid of not seeing each other again, making it slightly easier than the last time. The moment he'd set foot onto solid ground in North Island, he'd zeroed in on Jules standing a few yards away with Sarah, Jack, Joey, Raptor, and Lightning. She damn-near tackled him in a hug, and the dogs helped her, jumping up on Rooster, barking for hugs and affection from their new dad. The rest of the Kazansky's eagerly greeted Rooster, and Jack exuberantly lifted his future brother-in-law up in the air.
It took another two weeks for Rooster and Juliette to swiftly figure out a game plan to move him into her house, which furniture they were keeping and not, and moving him in. For better or worse, Rooster didn't have a lot of furniture in his little studio apartment in the first place and choosing to make it easy, he sold most of his stuff, keeping only the sentimental pieces, the largest being his dad's piano. Juliette, already aware her fiancé would be keeping it, had rearranged the furniture before the movers arrived so they could set it up immediately.
The day they'd finally settled in together, and the house was mostly clean and set up for the two of them, Juliette and Rooster made a plan to visit Maverick out at his warehouse. Although Bradley talked to or texted his dad daily, he didn't want to miss any opportunities to see him.
The first morning they planned on it, however, Juliette fell ill, unable to keep anything down. Never one to throw up, Rooster instantly became concerned about her wellbeing, but she assured him it was probably the fish from her dinner last night. Rooster didn't wholly believe her since she'd been under the weather since he arrived home but chose not to debate it. Instead, he made her stay on the couch while he cared for her.
Tumblr media
The next day, Juliette still wasn't feeling a hundred percent, and she chose to go to the doctor. She convinced Rooster to still see Maverick, telling him she'd join him after her appointment. He wanted to wait for her because he worried about Jules driving alone in the desert while sick, but she wouldn't hear of it.
"Besides, I might have a ride there anyway," Juliette had said, smiling. Rooster returned it knowingly. If luck was in the air today, Rooster and Jules wouldn't be the only ones visiting Maverick.
And that's how Bradley ended up at the warehouse without Juliette by his side. His dad asked where she was and Rooster told him. Maverick appeared equally concerned about Jules, but both men trusted her to inform them if anything was seriously wrong, though.
"Want to help me with the plane?" Maverick inquired after the two had had a couple of beers and caught up on all the busyness in Rooster's life.
"Yeah, let me go check my phone really fast, see if Jules has called," Bradley said, getting up and jogging over to his phone. He picked it up and detached it from the charger, clicking the home button to light up the screen. A single text from Jules sent almost two hours ago resided on the screen: On my way :)
Tumblr media
Smiling to himself, Rooster shoved his phone into his pocket and joined Mav at the plane, tapping his dad on the stomach to alert him of his presence. Maverick stepped aside and handed Rooster the tool he'd been using, pointing at some screws and wiring. When Maverick's attention diverted itself to something else, Rooster looked underneath the plane to find Amelia standing in a jacket and overalls. She looked at something outside, and following her gaze, Rooster found Penny leaning against her Porsche, waiting for Maverick.
Bradley joined Amelia's side, watching as Maverick went and got his girl. It made Rooster wonder where his girl was. She should've been here by now.
Don't be an overbearing fiancé. I'm sure she's okay. She's probably almost here. Or maybe she hit traffic. Or maybe-
Raptor and Lightning came bounding over to Rooster, nearly knocking him over when they greeted him. Juliette's chastising was quick to follow. "Boys, I know you love daddy, but please don't jump on him!"
"Hi, honey," Rooster said, wrapping his arm around his fiancée's waist and giving her a peck on the lips. "Did you come with Penny?"
"I drove behind her. The dogs and I couldn't fit into the Porsche with her and Amelia."
"You know-" Amelia began, garnering the couple's attention- "I've heard of third-wheeling, but not fifth-wheeling, and I can't believe I'm discovering it by being the fifth-wheel."
Juliette and Rooster chuckled, the former saying, "Don't worry, I know the feeling. I've been in your position more times than I care to admit. What do you say we get the groceries out of my car so we can start getting dinner ready, and then maybe later, you can drive around and get some practice for your driver's test?"
Amelia readily agreed. Jules tossed the girl her keys and started to follow the young Benjamin out, but Rooster gently grabbed hold of her and pulled her back. When she stared up at him curiously, he asked, "How'd the appointment go? Everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything's fine," Juliette replied breezily, waving a dismissive hand and stepping out of his embrace. "I need to help Amelia get the groceries out because there are some things that need to be put in the freezer ASAP."
Rooster frowned. "How much food did you buy?"
"I learned long ago that Mav always kept the bare minimum in the fridge, so I bought some stuff for tonight and to keep him stocked for the next couple of weeks."
He watched Juliette disappear outside, a nagging feeling in the back of his mind telling him she was acting weird. Why hadn't she told him what the doctor said? Was it serious? Could she have an illness like his mom?
No.
If it were something like that, Juliette would've told him. She evidently had things on her mind, but it didn't appear to be detrimental to her health, so Rooster temporarily convinced himself to calm down. He watched Maverick take Penny for a joyride in the P-51, followed by giving Amelia one. Juliette declined the offer when Maverick proposed it to her, however, sending up the first red flag for Rooster. Since when did she ever turn down a chance to go up with Mav?
The second red flag rose during dinner when she chose water over not just alcohol but every other drink available. Normally, Jules at least had a diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Coke, but never just water.
The third red flag was her unusual quietness. While Juliette smiled and laughed, she barely contributed to the conversation and continually fiddled with her locket. Rooster was desperate to pull his fiancée aside, but he couldn't find a good time without arousing suspicion from Maverick, Penny, and Amelia. So he waited, his anxiety rising higher and higher into the evening until everyone went to bed, even Juliette. She slept soundly and peacefully on the air mattress set up for them next to the P-51. With Rooster not in bed yet, Raptor and Lightning flanked her like they used to, resting their heads on the pillows like humans.
After fixing the covers over Jules, he shuffled to Maverick's workstation, having intended to do so earlier but getting caught up in conversation with his dad and the others prevented him.
Tumblr media
He approached the counter, smiling softly at the memorabilia and pictures lining it. Mav's helmet, worn from use and their escape from enemy territory, sat on the wood. Taped to the metal wall were photos upon photos upon photos: Ice and Mav shaking hands after their victory over the five MiGs; Rooster and Mav below it in the same position after their own success; Rooster proposing to Juliette on the carrier, another of them at her prom the time he'd surprised her by flying in from college; Rooster's baseball uniform photo and his official Naval portrait, probably sent to Mav by Juliette considering he hadn't been speaking to Maverick at that point in time; one of Mav and Goose howling to the sky aboard a carrier; Mav and Goose standing in front of their F-14; Carole and Goose kissing while the latter held a little Bradley in his arms; and Mav and Goose giving the thumbs up to the camera.
Thanks for watching out for me, Dad. I hope you and Mom are singing and dancing your hearts out up in Heaven. I'll see you again one day. I love you.
Rooster fist-bumped the photo of his dad and moved off to the kitchen, a small heartache in his chest. He wished his parents had both gotten to live long enough to see him marry Juliette. Carole loved her, and he had no doubt Goose would've too. Still, he wished they were here. At least Bradley had Maverick again. He'd never truly lost Mav, that he knew, but it was still nice to have his dad around without any tension between them.
Tumblr media
Rooster pulled out his carton of ice cream from the freezer and braced himself on the counter while he ate it, scrolling through pictures on his phone. Most consisted of Juliette, Maverick, the dogs, and the Dagger squadron. The latter had created a group chat- Juliette and Mav included- and constantly texted each other, mainly funny memes and jokes. Everyone swiftly learned Bob, who appeared so innocent, had a dirty sense of humor.
A pair of arms wrapped around Rooster's waist, and he felt Juliette rest her cheek on his back. Sleepily, she said, "What are you doing awake, Lieutenant?"
Rooster straightened, twisting around so he could drape his arm around Jules's shoulders. "I wasn't tired. What are you doing up?"
"I got hungry." Rooster scooped a glob of ice cream onto his spoon and offered it to her. She happily took it. Juliette leaned her head against his shoulder and looked up at him. "Talk to me, Rooster. What's on your mind?"
"I've been worried about you today. You haven't been yourself. What exactly did the doctor say?" Juliette dropped her gaze from his, fiddling with her ring. Rooster's heart jumped into his throat. "Are you sick?"
"No. I mean, technically, yes, but no."
"That- that does not help clarify anything."
Juliette reached up for her locket, gripping it in her fist with white knuckles. "Y-you know how we said we wanted to start a family after we got married?"
"Yeah, what about it?" A depressing thought popped into his head, and he hesitated to ask it, but if it was true, he wanted to let Juliette know he didn't care. He loved her regardless. "Are- are you able to have kids?"
"Yes, and according to my doctor, it's going to be a lot sooner than we planned."
The gears turned madly in Rooster's head as he processed her words. "It's going to... I don't get it"
"Bradley, I'm pregnant," Juliette whispered, her blue eyes full of vulnerability and fear of his response.
"I'm gonna be a dad?" Rooster croaked out, his eyes dropping to her stomach.
"Yeah..."
A burst of laughter escaped his lips as he swept Juliette into his arms and spun her around excitedly. "I'm going to be a dad!"
"I'm going to take that as a sign you're happy about it," Juliette remarked, relief evident in her tone. He set her down at the sound of it.
"Were you afraid I wouldn't be?"
"We've only been back together a month, and I know we're engaged and planning to marry, but it's still so early and-"
"Juliette Sarah Kazansky, listen to me," Rooster interrupted, cupping her face, "I couldn't care less if we have kids before we get married. All I care about is that I get to start a life with you, and I cannot wait to live it with you and our future child."
Tears welled in Juliette's eyes, her shoulders sagging at his reassurance. "I love you, Bradley Bradshaw."
"I love you too, Juliette." He gave her three kisses, and between each one, he whispered a word to form the sentence that had been their love story since the beginning: India Lima Yankee.

I told you guys that this Wrestlemania is a romance novel…. WM 36 - In the middle of a worldwide pandemic, while the whole world was shut down, we turned it the hell up. WWE was the only form of entertainment. I flew from California to Florida every single week to put on weekly television shows (sometimes 3 different shows) in a small arena in front of ZERO people. I was the champion. And I successfully defended that title in a fatal 5 way at WM 36, then watched it “live” weeks later in my own living room. What a feeling. I’m so proud of that match for so many reasons. Never before, never again. I’ll never forget it….. WM 37 - Coming off possibly the greatest year of my career (so far), the longest reigning SD women’s champion in history. And at the first show back in front of real people, the WWE fans, I found myself without a match at the biggest show of the year. The sheep of the WWE universe didn’t take that lightly, and so I crashed the damn show. I stood up to Hulk Hogan, I crashed the commentary desk, and then I got thrown down the damn ramp and rolled for about 100 yards. Thank God Bianca and Sasha main evented that year to make history, or else I would’ve kept rolling all the way back home. Embarrassed and ashamed. Never again. I’ll never forget that feeling… WM 38 - Out with an injury for almost a year. Everything from WM 37 was still boiling inside me. For the 3rd year in a row I was missing out on performing in front of 70,000 people. I flew myself out to Dallas for WM because I couldn’t miss my best friends make history again - the bigger picture. I’ll never regret showing up for my people. Walking around backstage and seeing everyone again wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be until I got a text from Dakota Kai asking how I was doing. She said she knew the feeling of being out with an injury during the biggest weekend of the year so she wanted to see how I was holding up. That’s when the emotions hit. I’ll never forget that realization. WM 39 - I’m in love with the journey I’ve been on. There is absolutely NOTHING in this world like this place. I’ve felt everything…confusion, disappointment, hopeless, but above all…LOVE. I love this. Love isn’t always happy, love isn’t always kind. It’s not rainbows and butterflies and smiles and flowers. We get let down in love. We even let ourselves down in love. We’re sometimes alone in love. But damn is it all worth it to just hold on to that love. A pandemic, a let down, an injury, cannot stop my loveeeee. All of these things brought us to TOMORROW. I get to walk into Wrestlemania in front of 75,000+ people alongside two women that have walked similar paths, have felt similar feelings…..and we’re going to thank our 2 childhood heroes for inspiring us to get to this point in our lives where we can now kick their ass out of OUR RING FOR GOOD AND THEY CAN TAKE THAT IDIOT WHO THINKS HER SH*T DON’T STINK WITH THEM!!!!!!!! Ain’t nothin more romantic than that. I know, I will never forget this.

Geissele rifle build pt2
All right guys so this weeks post is going to be a part two for my geissele rifle build. I was able to take it out today and put about 300 rounds through it. Long story short the gun ran flawlessly with no malfunctions no hiccups or anything like that.
Tumblr media
So starting off the first thing I had to do was zero the odg eotech xps2 that I picked up from brownells last week. I ended up deciding on doing a 36 yard zero that way all my holds out to 300 yards all fall into a 5 1/2 inch vertical area. To me optics zeroing is completely up to the end-user. So your best bet is to get online look around see what kind of options there are figure out what works best for you and just go and do it. If for some reason you don’t like whatever way you did it that’s the beauty of it is you can go ahead and change it with no issues.
One of the things that I really like about this rifle is not only is it extremely aesthetically pleasing but so far it has been a very soft shooting and very smooth cycling system. Yes the muzzle device is a sure fire war comp so that definitely helps recoil mitigation and keeps the rifle flat. The main reason I even picked up that muzzle device from brownells was pretty much just as a suppressor host. Hopefully by next summer this rifle will have a surefire socom RC2 5.56 can on it.
Tumblr media
Some of the little things that I noticed were first the Arisaka finger stop that I have on this is absolutely perfect and exactly what I was looking for. It’s not too big but it’s also not too small it makes a great indexing point for your hand not only on the front of the finger stop for your normal C clamp hold. But also when shooting from a barrier or off of a tree or anything like that I noticed using the back of the finger stop with my thumb or the web between your thumb and pointer finger while holding the hand guard against say a tree worked really well.
As always the Eotech is one of my favorite sighting solutions. The unity mount brings up the XPS2 to a very comfortable height. The B5 parts also work perfectly as we all know and same with the flat line fiber sling is one of my favorites and I have them on all of my rifles.
The Geissele government two stage trigger is not only my first two stage trigger but my first experience with a two-stage trigger. It definitely took some getting used to but after a very short period of time I see why people like these so much. The first stage is nice to take off the tension and then when you’re ready to shoot you can easily snap into the second stage for a nice clean trigger pull. Definitely excited to get more time on that trigger.
Tumblr media
Overall everything has been fantastic with this I’m very excited with how I perform today eventually I will do an update after many many more rounds through it or if anything weird happens with any of the parts on it which I hope does not happen. As for now all these parts I would recommend and if you’re interested in any of this stuff swing over to brownells and start your build.
Happy shooting!

Cornfield Brutality Part 5- Stage 1 Long Range Assault
This stage hurt my pride. I am what some people would call “out of practice” with iron sights at distance. My Windham A4 was zeroed for a good old fashioned USMC 36/300 meter zero, but in my excitement i forgot some things.
The stage began with a angled roof shooting position and the shooter was to engage a 400 yard target with five well aimed shots minimum, but could continue until they got a hit if they so chose. moving on after the five shots was a 60 second penalty. Enter my first mistake- not adjusting my rear sight elevation and holding low when i should have held high. 300 meters is about 328 yards. 400 yards is about 365 meters. Neither is too far off, close enough to land a hit with Kentucky windage if I had remembered what I was doing. By shot number 3 I had figured out my problem (with help from the spotters) but still did not manage to land a hit. I decided eating the 60 seconds and moving on was the right call.
Tumblr media
Moving to the first hay obstacle, my plan is basically to get the best sight picture I can and wing it based on feedback from the spotters. Further complicating the situation is my sights are still set for 300 meters, my targets are closer, and I am advancing on them between the obstacles. Windage was not much of an issue, the zero was good and while pretty windy at the range it maintained almost no value. The biggest factor with windage was my front sight being wider than the targets, so as you would see on the YouTube video of this stage, I continue to dance around the targets. I did ultimately land the four hits needed to move on to the second obstacle and repeated this process.
Tumblr media
I also learned that I should probably practice reloading from an ALICE pouch in the prone before next year. that sapped some time from me and I managed to get my third hit at this obstacle just before the buzzer informed us that my time was up.
Stage one, in simplest terms, kicked my ass. I know i can hit targets that far, ive done it before. (nevermind 9holereviews pointing out that target was the size of a jeep vs the IPSC targets I was shooting at for this match) the principals remain the same. More practice will definitely be needed before next years run of Cornfield Brutality.
Tumblr media
I want to thank InRange TV for putting on this and all of the brutality matches, and a very sincere thanks to Brownell’s for hosting the match at their range. It was overall a great time and I cannot wait for Cornfield Brutality 2023.
In the meantime, if you want to set yourself up for a Brutality match, USPSA or really any style of shooting, make sure to hit up Brownell’s. you can save 10% off your order by using promo code pipeguy10 on any order of $150 or more at brownells.com

Sea, do you think Louis will ever get un-blacklisted? Bc I do think that if what he puts out is great(that I have no doubt of tbh, he always surpasses my expectations), if fans are satisfied with tour(which is mostly sold out so I mean, that’s gotta mean something to the industry people), and if he plays the game to clean up his ‘stained’ rep, it is possible IMO. Maybe. Idk.
I also think he’s probably gonna need to take care of himself(cough stop freaking smoking cough) and maybe clean up his - laddy tracksuit I don’t wear fashionable things-image a bit to get on peoples good side more? Bc even though I love my Louis who has no fashion sense and is 100% real, most young women(and even men, I suppose) don’t. And since it’s at least a large part the target demographic, doing that would probably help. What do u think?
Well, the thing is that he’s a kind, charming, funny person with 36 million followers on Twitter. It doesn’t make any sense for the GP to hate him to the extent that he gets zero radio play — lots of musicians smoke and drink, aren’t as well known, with music that’s not as polished, and still chart on radio.
I think that Sony has tried its hardest for Walls to get bad numbers. Remember when Amazon and Google Play pre-orders were all cancelled three days before Walls’ debut. The Walls mv was not accessible for several hours in the US on the day of release— therefore decreasing the opportunity for streaming numbers in the first 24 hours. Of the singles, only We Made It and Walls were available on AllAccess for US radio stations to play (and TOU at its debut). DLIBYH was released in a singles version so sales and streams do not count toward album certification. There is just too much coincidence.
We might think, well, that’s just Syco. Maybe it was running out of money and going bust anyway— Sony wouldn’t bother to promote an album from a dying company.
But even so, Sony already owned 75% of Syco as of 2015. That’s the point. Sony had the control of finances— they could control Louis’ career at Syco. Sony controlled Little Mix’s career at Syco and their last album is gold certified in the UK.
I think the objective with giving Louis bad numbers on his debut album, bad to average reviews, negatively comparing him with Harry (from way before album release), and a bad image was to kill his career before it starts— to obliterate him. The objective wasn’t to make Louis a “smaller” artist than Harry; it was to destroy him, mind and spirit. Louis already had personal tragedy to deal with, and the label must already have known that he didn’t have the highest confidence. They wanted him to give up.
Hence, when Fine Line promo and numbers were laid on top of Walls’, the objective was to humiliate Walls. Harry played the big Jingle Balls, Louis played the free openers. In 2019-20, one of Louis’ announcements and appearances (and singles releases) was overshadowed by Harry’s. Lights Up was released to great fanfare; the name of Walls was leaked in the same weekend in Australia’s Girlfriend magazine. Photoshoots and covers in Rolling Stone and Vogue for Harry, Cosmo for Louis. 6 billions streams for FL, not even 600 million for Walls, and so on. But we see that it was never a fair contest; Harry started the 100 yard dash at the 75 yd line.
However, depending on how tour goes, Louis’ career will slowly turn around, and the reason is money. Besides Harry, Louis has the opportunity to be the ex-1D member to generate the highest revenue from tour, and it’s a big number. Of course it’s not 1D numbers, but I would guess it’s easily bigger than 90% of artists. Money equals power and access. A big tour generates interest, attention. It gives Louis access to producers, labels, and songwriters. And depending on how BMG plays it, it could generate a big radio hit. The amount of money generated by this kind of tour gives access to mass media, legitimate outlets. Also, it generates an appetite in the fandom— new fans who missed out on tour, because tickets were sold so long ago and they had no way to buy them— are itching to get tickets for next tour. If LTWT2022 goes well, next tour will sell bigger and better. Success will be self-perpetuating.

Type-90 Mazer Cannon Weight: 60 Tons Speed: 45/40 Armor Value: 100 Damage Capacity: 300 Toughness: 3 Handling: 3 Special: - Weak Spot (1/2 Armor at rear) Weapons Maser Cannon: - Rate of Fire: Once per Turn (max, overheating risk, knocks out canon for 5 minutes if fired for (toughness) turns) - Ammunition: Energy Cell (40 Shots) - Damage: 200/30/10 (1, 2 Yards, 3 Yards) (Beam Damage) - Range: Long Range Machine Gun: 30 Bullet Damage, Rifle Ranges
Maser canons first appeared in the 1960s, and proved very effective against various monsters over the years, biomega included. Its main beam is a150,000-volt concentrated microwave blast. However, they were not without fault. They have a very narrow beam that dances about when it fires. It also has about 30% power reduction in the rain (140/20/7), which also applies when there is a lot of material in the atmosphere to diffuse the beam. Maser canons have seats for a diver and a gunner.

Commissioned in 99 as a quick option against Kaiju threats, it saw action against the monsters: Varan, Godzilla, and King Ghidorah, but was damaged beyond repair at the turn of the millennium. The project was not revived in favor of Mecha-Godzilla. The ship was piloted by high-school students (recruited through a secretly issued government-produced video-game Battleground 2000), among them child prodigy Kip Daniels and later Mothra conduit Lori Angelo. They continued to work with G-Force for the most part, but never directly combated Kaiju beyond their Raptor missions. Raptor 1 is twice the size of its sister ship, Raptor 2 (which is a modifier CV-22 Osprey, Half DC, AV, and Weight), and largely resembles one. It is 150ft long and has a wingspan (with the propellers up) of 175ft. Both hold crews of four (Pilot, gunner, sensors, communication) and have no room for anything but their ammunition in their hulls.

UNIT Flying Car Weight: 4,000lbs Damage Capacity: 100 Toughness: 4 Speed: 130/90 Armor Value: 8 Handling: 4 At times, this vehicle looks like a regular (high class) car, but it can transform into a short-range flying machine. Yes, Really. They first appeared in the 1960s and 70s, but are not in common use today. They are seen as relics as they are basically second-rate helicopters with greater limitations. However, none can deny that they are cool. They are the prize of any collection they are a part of. Many are 'tricked out' with all sorts of gadgets. Each Gadget is a separate device purchased separately.

I don't remember what the prompts were so I am picking a random one! Whiterose for Number 36
((Y’all mind if I uhhhh...project onto Ruby a little bit?
This got really long so I added a read more lol
You know what, heck it, this is it’s own AU now. Rosebloom AU!))
One accidentally runs into the other(s) while… 36. At a party
Ruby was not a party girl. She had never actually been to a party, but she didn’t need to to be sure of that. The idea of just milling about a crowded space while loud music played did not appeal to her at all, not to mention the potential sensory issues such an environment might cause (or definitely would cause). But she tried anyway, because she was in high school now, and high school kids party, right? And she desperately wanted to fit in at her new school and not be the same weirdo she had been in junior high. Yang had told her that she didn’t have to come if she didn’t want to, but Ruby insisted both to Yang and to herself that she could handle it.
Twenty minutes after arriving at the party, she was scrambling out the back door to escape the loud music and constant droning of conversation, finally starting to get overloaded despite her efforts to carry on. Inadvertently getting separated from Yang didn’t help matters as she stepped onto the back porch and held her fists to her forehead, clenching and unclenching her hands rapidly as she pressed the bases of her wrists against her eyes, focusing on the darkness and listening to the relative calm.
Once she began to calm down a bit, she sighed and sat down on the wicker chair on the back porch, her back to the wall. She took a deep breath, then let out a groan. “Damn it...”
“Are you okay?”
Ruby flinched, gripping the arm rests of her seat as she turned toward who had just spoken. “H-HUh?!”
The girl who had spoken stepped back, standing at the bottom on the steps to the porch. She had long white hair that seemed to shine despite the low light of the crescent moon and the light that escaped the windows behind Ruby, and her blue eyes seemed to take whatever light hit them and reflected it back twice as bright. She clutched a small light blue purse to her chest, making it easy to notice how the purse matched her sweater and pleated skirt. “Sorry for startling you,” the girl said, not looking directly at Ruby as she walked up the steps.
“It’s...fine,” Ruby said, relaxing a bit, letting her arms rest at her sides again as she watched the girl climb the stairs, noticing her black leggings and red hightops. “I thought it was just me back here.”
“So did I,” the girl admitted, now standing awkwardly by the front railing of the porch, facing Ruby. “I’m...not much for parties.”
Ruby chuckled, nodding as she looked away from Weiss, getting nervous being under her gaze. “Me neither.”
“Are your eyes okay?” She asked. “They look really red. I saw you rubbing them.”
“Huh?” Ruby asked, but then felt her face get hot and her heart leap into her throat. “That was...I just...I do that when I’m...” She shut herself up, knowing not to let herself stammer.
Weiss blinked at her, then nodded. “Just...nervous?”
Ruby nodded. “Yeah, nervous,” she agreed. Not exactly accurate, but not completely incorrect either. She let out a sigh after involuntarily holding her breath for a spell.
She hadn’t realized how cold it was, and her jacket was still in the locked cargo box in Yang’s motorcycle, leaving Ruby in just her red t-shirt and black jeans. She gripped her elbows, trying to stifle a shiver. “What’s...your name?” She asked. Totally normal thing to ask, right? Especially if this girl was going to keep looking at her, awkwardly, beautifully...
“Weiss,” the girl answered. “And yours?”
“Ruby,” Ruby said. “Uhm...what’re you doing out here?”
Weiss shrugged, lowering her purse from her chest to in front of her, relaxing her shoulders at last. “I came to this party hoping to meet new people. I just moved here so I don’t know anybody.”
Ruby chuckled, glancing at the empty backyard. “Not going well, huh?” She immediately regretted saying that. Am I seriously teasing her? That was so mean! What the fuck is wrong with me?
To Ruby’s surprise, however, Weiss chuckled, smiling as she glanced toward the grassy yard as well. “Not at all. I feel so out of place.”
That was something Ruby could relate to. “Same,” she admitted. “I don’t like parties.”
“Neither do I.” Weiss shrugged, leaning her elbow against the porch railing behind her. “People don’t really talk to people outside their little groups, do they?”
Ruby hadn’t noticed, she was more worried about the idea of someone actually talking to her, and having to come up with something to say that wasn’t awkward or weird, and then trying to carry a conversation with someone she didn’t know and probably shared zero interests with. Ruby sucked at talking to people, unless she was talking to friends over voicechat while playing Minecraft at home, or...to Yang or her dad. That was it, pretty much.
“I’ve actually said more to you than I have to anyone else tonight,” Weiss continued, chuckling again. “So...thank you for that.”
“Hm?” Ruby hadn’t done anything really. Oh, wait. I have actually been talking to her. Weird. “Oh, yeah! Thanks to you, too.”
Weiss smiled at her. Weiss smiled at her. “Do you go to Beacon High as well?”
Ruby nodded, feeling her face warm again, but not so much that it was distracting or unbearable. “Yeah, it’s my first year. I...kinda came here for the same reason as you, to meet people, but...yeah, I’m not good at...meeting...people.”
“I mean,” Weiss shrugged. “You met me.”
Ruby opened her mouth, but struggled to put her response together at first. “I...guess you’re right. Huh.”
“I’m a junior, but I was homeschooled up until this year, so I guess I’m sort of in the same boat as you,” Weiss said, fidgeting with the handle of her purse. “Not knowing anyone despite there being literally hundreds of other people at school feels...alienating.”
Ruby nodded. “Yeah, it kinda d-does.” She stuttered as she shivered a bit, having tried her best to hide how cold she was but beginning to fail at that.
Weiss tilted her head a bit. “Need a jacket?” She asked.
“I’m okay, mine’s in my sister’s bike, and she has the key, and...I don’t know where she went.”
“Oh, that was your sister,” Weiss remarked. “She seems...pretty popular.”
“She is.” Ruby nodded.
Weiss looked to the side, then set her purse on the railing. “Here.” She began to tug her light blue sweater off.
Ruby’s face felt like she was nose-deep in a toaster oven by this point. Is she taking her top off?! “What are you...?”
Alas, only a bit of Weiss’ midriff actually ended up exposed. She pulled off her sweater, leaving her in a white v-neck t-shirt. “I don’t want you to freeze,” she said with a chuckle, extending the sweater towards her.
Ruby stared at the sweater and shook her head. “No no, I’m fine, really.”
“I don’t get cold that easy, no worries,” Weiss insisted, nodding towards her sweater. “Go on.”
Ruby sighed, face still burning as she reached out and took the garment from Weiss. “Thank you.” She gingerly began to slip it on, and as she pulled it over her head, she faintly smelled lavender laundry detergent and...perfume? It kind of smelled like chamomile, like the kind of tea her dad would make when she or Yang got a sore throat. Ruby tugged the sweater down, her head poking out the top, and she immediately felt more comfortable, and much warmer.
Weiss giggled. “Not too small, is it?”
Ruby shook her head, tugging the sleeves down over her wrists. “It’s, like, the perfect size, actually.”
“Okay, good,” Weiss said with a nod, smiling.
Ruby looked up at her, making eye contact, and a lump formed in her throat inexplicably. Then she started to panic a little, trying to find something to say, but not coming up with anything, but she had to say something so she just started talking. “It’s really warm and it smells like—”
She was cut off when the back door opened and Yang stepped outside. “There you are, sis!” She said when she spotted Ruby. She was wearing a yellow and white stripped halter top and light blue jeans, her hair in a ponytail. “I’ve been looking all over the place.” Then she noticed Ruby’s newfound sweater, then turned and looked at Weiss for the first time. Then she pointed at Weiss, then at Ruby. “Do you know each other?” She asked.
“N-No!” Ruby said, then blushed when she realized how rude that might have been. “I mean, we just met and we’ve been talking about how much we don’t like parties and stuff. And...she gave me her sweater. Because I was cold.” She put that last sentence out in a pointed rush, trying to quell any ideas from forming in Yang’s head. “And, uh...her name is Weiss.”
Yang glanced back at Weiss, a faint smirk on her face. “Weiss, huh? Are you new?”
Weiss nodded, face red for more than just the cold, probably. “Yeah, I am. I just moved to Beacon.”
“Cool! I’m Yang!” She reached a hand out, which Weiss took and shook. “I’m Ruby’s sister.”
“I’m Weiss,” Weiss said, then stammered a bit. “You...already knew that.”
Yang giggled. “No worries.” She pointed at Ruby. “I just wanted to check on you. You doing okay?”
Now? Yes, she was just fine. Earlier, not so much, but there was no point in telling Yang that now. “Yeah, I’m good,” Ruby said.
Yang nodded. “Cool. Just text me if you need anything, okay?” She then waved to her and Weiss. “I’ll leave you two alone,” she teased before disappearing into the house again.
She just had to add on that bit at the end, huh?
“Your sister...seems nice,” Weiss said, her face still red.
“She is,” Ruby rattled off, not looking at Weiss now, fidgeting with the cuffs of Weiss’ sweater instead. Wait...Oh shit, Yang got the wrong idea from seeing me in her sweater, she must think me and Weiss are... She tapped both feet on the floor in quick succession over and over, doing her fist clenching thing again but keeping her hands on the armrests.
“Are you okay, Ruby?” Weiss asked, noticing her stimming.
“I’m good,” Ruby said, not meaning it so much as that was just a rehearsed answer to that type of question.
“Am I making you nervous?” Weiss asked, holding her purse to her chest again. “You can be honest.”
“No!” Ruby shouted. Why did I shout?! That came out WAY too quick.
Weiss flinched a bit at Ruby’s sudden response. “I...if you need me to leave you alone for a moment, I can.”
Ruby gritted her teeth. I’m acting so weird, fuck. She wanted to run away right at that moment, but she had nowhere to go. Home was miles away.
Weiss gripped her purse, pressing her lips together. “I’m sorry, I’ll...” She reached for the door.
“Wait!” Ruby reached out suddenly, grabbing Weiss’ wrist just before she reached the door handle.
Weiss gasped, looking between Ruby’s hand and her face, appearing worried.
Ruby blinked, then inhaled sharply and drew her hand away, tucking it against her chest. “I’m sorry, I...I don’t mean to...do that. I...” She squeezed her eyes shut. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry...”
“Hey,” Weiss said, sounding restrained, putting a hand on Ruby’s shoulder. “It’s okay.
“I’m just being weird and I’m sorry, I’m sor—”
“You don’t have anything to be sorry for.”
Ruby stopped, opening her eyes, freezing for a moment. She felt a small wave of relief. Okay...okay, she’s not actually that weirded out...is she?
“I...” Weiss began to say, then her voice trailed off. She took her hand off of Ruby’s shoulder, then reached into her purse, pulling out her phone. “What’s your phone number?”
My phone number?!
“Uh...” Ruby struggled to respond for a moment. “Uhh...right, my number, it’s...” She told Weiss her cell number, and Weiss entered it into her contacts. “Why...do you ask?”
“I just...” Weiss put her phone away in her purse. “I can tell you...aren’t really comfortable here, so I figured I could text you sometime so we can talk that way, and...I don’t know, we could hang out sometime, somewhere a bit more...our style,” she shrugged, smiling awkwardly.
Ruby stared at her for a moment, then nodded. “Oh, yeah, totally.” She took a moment to listen to the music playing inside the house, then got an idea. “Or we could...go somewhere else right now?”
Weiss’ mouth hung open for a moment, glancing toward the house as well, then smiled, giggling. “I guess you’re right. Uhm...where did you have in mind.”
Ruby perked up a bit, but then deflated just as quickly. “Well, my sister is my ride so I can’t exactly take you anywhere.”
“I could hail an Uber,” Weiss said.
Ruby blinked at her. “Ohh...I’ve never been to oovoo javer.”
Weiss chuckled, then snorted, then laughed even louder. “Oh wow, that was attractive of me.”
Ruby giggled, holding a hand to her mouth as she did. “It was cute!”
Weiss sighed, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear, her laughter fading. “So yeah, I’ll...” she took her phone back out, face red all the way down her neck. “I’ll call that Uber.” She turned away from Ruby, obviously embarrassed, as she tapped away at her phone screen.
Ruby kept giggling softly, mentally patting herself on the back. She made her laugh! Without even meaning to. Her brain had just played a split-second game of Word Association: Vine Edition and spit out a response. The planets must have been aligned in a certain way, because Ruby was sure she would never pull off something like that again.
Hold up...why am I so happy about making her laugh?
“Wait, where are we going?” Weiss asked. “Kinda need a destination if we’re calling an Uber...”
“Uhm...are you hungry?”
“A bit,” Weiss admitted.
“DQ?”
“DQ?” Weiss asked. “I’ve...never been.”
“You’ve never been to see the Queen of Dairy?” Ruby asked, astonished.
“I’m afraid not,” she chuckled, but input the location of the nearest Dairy Queen. “But I’ll give it a try. The driver should be here soon.” There was still a faint red tinge to her cheeks. Actually, she was beginning to look cold being without her sweater.
“Would you like your sweater back?” Ruby offered.
Weiss shook her head, waving a hand. “I insist.”
Ruby nodded, biting her lip. “Okay. Oh, I should probably text Yang and tell her I’m leaving.” She pulled her phone from her pocket and started to type a message to Yang.
“You...” Weiss muttered. “Do you listen to Red Hallow Manor?”
Ruby froze. Weiss had probably seen the logo for the Red Hallow Manor podcast on her phone case, but the only reason she had that case was because she was so certain no one would recognize it, it was such a niche thing. But somehow Weiss had? “Yeah?”
Weiss chuckled. “I literally just binged the first two seasons a couple days ago.”
“Really?” Ruby asked, sitting up straight in her seat. “No way! We could listen to the next season together! I mean, I’ve listened to the entire thing at least three times, but I’d totally want to listen with you and hear what you think!”
Weiss smiled, laughing. “Sure! That sounds like fun.”
“Awesome!” Ruby said excitedly, hopping to her feet. “Sorry, I just...I’m, like, obsessed with RHM. Like, really obsessed. I never thought I’d ever meet someone in-person who listened to it.”
Weiss giggled at Ruby’s enthusiasm. “Yeah, I had just heard about it and I was curious, so I listened to a couple episodes, and then I listened to more, and...” She shrugged. “I ended up staying up way too late. I had to force myself to go to bed after listening to two seasons.”
“That’s awesome!” Ruby said, eyes wide, shining in the moonlight. “Do you like it? Who’s your favorite character? What season one or two better?”
Weiss held a hand up to steady her. “How about...you interview me while we’re at DQ, huh?”
“Okay!” Ruby nodded, stimming but for a positive reason now, doing a side-to-side dance in her seat.
Weiss smiled at her. “You’re cute,” she remarked.
Ruby’s face heated up, halting her movements. “Oh, thanks,” she said, voice wavering.
Weiss blushed. “But like...just, yeah, I...” She hurried to pull her phone back out. “The Uber is just around the corner, we should go out front.”
Ruby stood from her seat. “Okay, uh...” she glanced at the back door to the house. “Could we...go around? I don’t want to go back inside.”
Weiss nodded. “Sure,” she said, heading down the patio steps with Ruby behind her.
They walked around to the side of the house only to find that there was no gate, just more fence. “Uh...” Weiss shrugged. “I guess we have to go through the house.”
“Why not just climb over?” Ruby asked.
Weiss looking at the fence with an uncertain glance. “Climb?”
“As one does,” Ruby chuckled, taking a couple steps back, then running and leaping at the fence, using the horizontal beams to climb up, then sat down on the top (the fence was flat on the top, so thankfully no pickets in the butt). “Like that!”
Weiss stared up at her, dumbfounded for a moment, then shook her head. “I don’t think I can do that.”
“What, have you never climbed a fence before?” Ruby asked.
“I’ve never had to?” Weiss shrugged.
“Okay, I’ll help you,” Ruby said, hoping back down.
“Uhh,” Weiss glanced at the fence uncertainly, but then looked back at Ruby’s goofy smile and sighed. “Alright, I’ll try.”
“Cool, I’ll boost you,” Ruby said, taking a knee and holding her hands out. “Just step up and I’ll lift you.”
Weiss took one more uncertain look at the fence, then nodded and gingerly ran forward, planting a foot one Ruby’s hands and stepping up, just as Ruby lifted her with a grunt. Weiss yelped, completely missing the highest horizontal beam and ending up stomach-first on the top of the fence, top half on the other side with her legs kicking on Ruby’s end. “Gah, that didn’t work!” Weiss yelped.
Ruby stopped herself from giggling, instead scrambling back up the fence. “I got you!” She said, leaping over with ease to the other side. She made eye contact with a very concerned looking Weiss and smiled at her. “Just flip over to this side and I’ll catch you.”
“Flip over?” Weiss asked incredulously.
Ruby extended her arms. “I got you!”
“I’m slipping!”
“Now or never then!” Ruby said.
Weiss held her breath, then leaned forward, doing a half front flip. “AHH!” She screamed, but landed in Ruby’s arms, bridal style.
“Gotcha!” Ruby said with a proud grin. She allowed herself to enjoy holding her for just a moment, then set Weiss upright, her feet securely on the ground. “Not so bad, huh?”
Weiss regained her bearings, then straightened her skirt, face flushed. “Yeah, I guess not,” she said, obviously flustered.
Ruby rubbed her back of her neck. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s okay,” Weiss said, chuckling. “I’ve done something new already.”
“There you go.” Ruby nodded, but was interrupted by a familiar Beep! Beep! nearby. She turned and spotted Yang leaning on her yellow motorcycle. “Yang?”
“Hey, sis!” She waved, then raised Ruby’s red jacket in the air. “You might want to take this with you.”
“Oh, right, thanks,” Ruby murmured, suddenly conscious of what Yang might have been thinking about her being with Weiss. She came over to Yang and took the jacket. “Uh, me and Weiss are going to DQ.”
“Sweet,” Yang nodded, giving Weiss a look, then a smile. “Don’t be out too late, but have fun!”
Ruby rolled her eyes. “Yeah yeah, I’ll be home by curfew. Just like you will be, right?”
Yang shrugged. “Mayyybe.”
A black sedan pulled up behind Yang, an Uber light on the front windshield. “This is it,” Weiss said, walking toward the car, glancing one more time at Yang as she walked past.
Yang smiled at Ruby, giving her hair a ruffle. “Maybe give her your jacket? Fair trade, right? Would be a smooth move.”
“Smooth move?” Ruby asked, glancing around her as Weiss climbed into the backseat of the Uber. Then she realized what Yang was insinuating and took this opportunity to put whatever ideas Yang was getting to bed. “We aren’t...dating or anything, okay?”
“Who said anything about that?” Yang asked, smiling.
Ruby sighed. “Okay, fine, but...don’t get any ideas.”
“You’re the one feeding me ideas,” Yang teased.
“Just...” Ruby sighed. “I feel like I’m making a friend. Please don’t make me feel weird about it.”
Yang blinked, smile disappearing. “How would I?”
Ruby glanced toward Weiss, seeing her with a leg still outside the car, waiting for Ruby to follow. “I gotta go,” she said, stepping past Yang.
Yang watched her walk past. “Be safe,” she called to her halfheartedly, then remained leaned against her bike, in thought.

Living sustainably can seem like a very daunting task. Going completely zero waste while living in modern society is nearly impossible without an entire lifestyle overhaul. On top of that, 71% of all pollution on the earth since 1988 is caused by only 100 companies according to the Carbon Major Report. Especially during a pandemic, when we're all using disposable PPE and cleaning supplies, it's very difficult to feel like we can truly have an impact. However, if we all take little steps towards a sustainable future, we can eventually push those 100 companies towards serving our interests and allowing future generations to have a healthier Earth to live on.
So I came up with a little challenge. Think of as many eco friendly and sustainable things you do regularly and write them down. Then come up with a few goals to help you be even more sustainable and write them down! You may find that you're actually doing more than you think 😉
I'll go first! Here are all the things that I could come up with that I do regularly to practice sustainability:
1. Living on my college campus and walking to class
2. Supporting sustainable skin/hair care brands (Krave beauty, Ethique, Lush)
3. Being intentional about the skincare/makeup products I buy by making sure they will actually add value to my routine and that I will use them up entirely before buying a replacement
4. Using reef safe, non nano mineral sunscreens
5. Using a plastic free shampoo bar
6. Using reusable cotton rounds for toner/makeup removal
7. Turning off the faucet while brushing my teeth
8. Turning off lights when I'm not using a room
9. Using energy saving bulbs in my lamp and using that in my dorm as my primary light source (as well as natural lighting from the windows) instead of the overhead lighting
10. Not idling my car (turning off the engine when waiting in line at the drive through or simply parking to do a pickup or dining in when there isn't a pandemic)
11. Getting food from the farmers market and local bakers (buying local and in season)
12. Prioritizing organically and locally grown food at the regular grocery store
13. Eating fewer snack foods that are packaged in plastic and opting for more fruits or fresh baked snacks
14. Consciously minimising food waste by being intentional about the food I buy and finishing my leftovers
15. Using reusable grocery bags
16. Using tupperwares and reusable silicone stasher bags instead of plastic ziplock
17. Saving old bread bags to store other foods in later
18. Recycling everything that can be recycled (and cleaning it first!)
19. Using old salsa jars as water glasses and to store food
20. Cooking my own meals instead of buying premade
21. Going meatless
22. Using reusable water bottles/mugs/smoothie bottles
23. Using reusable straws (even for boba!)
24. When at a restaurant, being sure to ask if they will be putting a straw in your drink and if they will, asking them to withhold it
25. When at a restaurant or cafe, asking for less or no ice in my drinks (surprisingly, ice takes up a huge amount of energy and it's mainly a US thing to have ice in our drinks all the time)
26. Taking my own reusable cutlery set everywhere to avoid using disposable plastic cutlery
27. Using bar soap instead of liquid hand soap to go plastic free
28. Eco friendly house and glass cleaners in reusable bottles with plastic free refills (Blueland)
29. Using reusable rags to clean surfaces instead of disposable wipes
30. Plastic free laundry detergent (Dropps)
31. Using reusable wool balls instead of disposable dryer sheets
32. Plastic free dishwasher detergent (Trader Joe's powder detergent in a cardboard box)
33. Using notebooks from previous classes for new classes up before buying new notebooks
34. Buying/renting used textbooks (to avoid having new ones printed) or ebook versions (for the same reason plus avoiding shipping)
35. Using recycled pens (made from plastic water bottles, Amazon) *yes, maybe pencils would be better but they contribute to deforestation so it's a tossup imo
36. Supporting sustainable clothing brands that use recycled fabric/recycled plastic as fabric, water saving methods, etc instead of "Fast fashion" brands (Manakai swimwear, Roxy)
37. Supporting environmental protection and cleanup organizations such as the National Parks Service and 4 Ocean
38. (At home, done by my family) using a low-flow toilet
39. (At home, done by my family) not using pesticides or herbicides in our yard/garden and only using natural fertilizers like tagro (and sparingly, to avoid lake eutrophication)
40. Taking the time to educate myself and others about environmental issues and steps we can all take towards sustainability
Improvements and future eco swaps I can make!
1. Eco friendly toilet paper (Who Gives A Crap recycled bamboo toilet paper) *I can't do it at my dorm, but maybe I can convince my family to get a bidet!
2. Eco friendly recycled bamboo paper towels (Who Gives A Crap), or cloth napkins
3. Asking cafes to make my drink in my reusable water bottle (at least once we're not in a pandemic)
4. Carpooling to the farmers market and local bakeries
5. Maybe getting a bicycle so that I can bike to the nearby grocery stores and my volunteer job instead of Ubering or taking a Zipcar
6. Using biodegradable trash bags instead of plastic ones
7. Using reusable/washable menstrual pads
8. Making my own salsa/guacamole to avoid more packaging
9. Unplugging electronics when they're fully charged and when I'm not using them or using a room (ex. Unplugging my lamp or pencil sharpener when they're not in use)
10. Participate in environmental protests, beach cleanups, or other local sustainability projects
Now it's your turn! How are you taking time to care for our lovely home? Make your own post or reblog with your list! 🌎🌱

Regular Season Game 4
Hawk Valley
Denver Broncos Regular Season Game 4 October 3, 2021
Quick Review
The Denver Broncos destroyed the Jets 26-0. This ends the “easy” part of the schedule.
A longer review
Tim Patrick started off the day by gaining 16 yards on the first two plays of the game. On first down, Teddy threw his first incomplete pass of the game. Gordon ran for 7 yards on second down. On third down, Bridgewater fumbled but the play was ruled an incomplete pass. With 12:50 left, the Broncos punted on fourth down.
The Bronco punt pinned the Jets on the 9 yard line. Corey Davis, #84, caught a pass and picked up 11 yards. Then Michael Carter, #32, ran to the left for four yards. Outlook
Before the season, began, people thought the Ravens game would mark the point where the Broncos season went south, but this season, the Broncos are getting the breaks. The Ravens are the number one rushing team in the league right now, but their running backs are injured. Advantage: Denver. This week the Ravens tried to play the injury game. What I mean is that they tried to give the Broncos the impression their starting quarterback was injured. Advantage: Denver. I don’t think he’s injured, but he is the heart of their offense, and Denver has the number one defense in the league right now. Advantage: Denver. Last week the Ravens had to kick a 66 yard field goal to beat the Detroit Lions as time expired. Advantage: Denver. I expect the Denver Broncos to extend their winning streak.
Looking ahead, I don’t see many obstacles to the Denver Broncos. The Steelers quarterback is dealing poorly with father time. In fact I hear rumors that the Steelers wish he had retired before the season started. The Raiders game is after that and that might be the toughest game the Broncos play until December.
Could the Broncos win their next 7 games?

It has been a long time since I have put pen to paper...erm...fingers to the keys...anyway. Six months ago our world stopped moving in many ways. COVID-19 has changed how our family works, and it some cases, how it fails. Never in a million years did I think my job would let me work from home, but it did. I was told on a Wednesday at noon to grab my work computer and go home. Never in a million years would I have thought my husband would be laid off after 30 years with the same company, but he was. He was told not to come in. He was asked if he wanted to use any of his earned time. He said no, thinking of the road trip to visit family out of state we had planned for the summer. The next day he received a phone call that he was fired and that vacation time was gone. Never in a million years would I thought I’d be my children’s school teacher or for some classes their tutor, or with some classes, a crying lunatic basket case staring at their computer screaming “WTAF,” but I have and I still do. I have been their counselor too. Hoping I am saying the right things and not making them feel worse.
We spent the first month completely quarantined in our home. Then we had to venture out for food and supplies. I am sure our story is similar to millions of other families so I will stop the play by play. I know we were not the only ones who thought this would be over soon. But six months in and my state has 36 other states on the travel restriction list. I am still working from home and my sweet, loyal, dedicated, hard working husband is still unemployed and job searches daily. Our kids are in a “hybrid learning mode” for school (virtual for three days and in person for two.)
I am not complaining, I am not here for any political arguments or even any advise. I know we are still part of the lucky. We still have each other, no one has the virus, we still have a house, food, clothes. We can still maintain most of we had seven months ago. We have learned to be more frugal. We have learned to give up plans we had, events, celebrations and road trips. We have learned to cook again, really cook, from scratch. We have planted and harvested a large garden this year. We have learned how to freeze part of that harvest for later. Next we will learn how to can. We have learned how to fix things ourselves, if we can, and how to negotiate a better price or barter for those things we can not.
I miss my friends. My best friend moved 11 hours away by car in June, to a travel restricted state. Sure we Zoom but it is not the same. And on the rare occasions where my family does social distance meet with friends (usually in someone’s yard with chairs six feet apart) it ALMOST feels normal. Same goes for visiting family...no hugs is a hard rule for me to follow. Especially with my parents. And I know my kids feel the same. My niece was born in July, we visited with masks and lots of hand washing for just a little while when my brother and SIL invited us. I have only touched her clothing or blanket, I have not touched her skin. I have not gently kissed her hand or played “this little piggy” on her toes.
I miss the extra curricular things too. My sew group meets by Zoom. We barely get to share a few stories before we run out of time. My sons Scout Troop meets outside and masked up. No camping. No handshakes. No high fives. Six feet apart. I can tell it is hard for them. At my daughters dance studio before the pandemic, a bunch of parents would wait in the waiting room sharing what was going on in our lives. We discussed how the team was preforming, what design we wanted in our parent shirts for competition, and what we were doing for the weekend. We would comfort each other in times of sorrow or uncertainty. We would support and congratulate each other when appropriate. Now we are not allowed to go in. Our ballerinas are temperature checked, six feet apart, masked, and have to stay in their box marked on the floor. I have ZERO problem with following these rules. If I did, I would switch troops or studios or not send my children. We have choices and this is what we choose.
I miss the hellos at the grocery store. No one recognizes each other in the masks. I am ultra polite to cashiers and delivery people. I have always been polite but now I feel as if I have to make up for people who are not. I miss the theatre, comedy shows and concerts (mind you, I have never been rich so I am talking local theatre and one concert of a well known band every few years [2020 was supposed to be my year and Night Ranger was the band], but mostly just local artist shows at local places). I miss the local festivals and craft shows. I was never really into sports besides watching Jeff Gordon in his prime in NASCAR but I sure do miss the photos of my friends kids in the games that they used to post on Facebook/Instagram.
There are some things I want back and there are things I never want to see again. I have tried hard to find what little good I could, spread what good I could. I have watched people and I have observed some of the worst behavior before and during all of this. My circle tightened just a bit.
My resolutions for 2021 are already made. They are just waiting for an all clear that seems to be out of our reach right now. So I will make them my resolutions for the rest of 2020:
Be kind. Be consistent. Be helpful. Be mindful. Be courteous. Show love. Show respect. Breathe. Learn. Stand up. Stand in between if necessary. Grow. Repeat.

I love your headcanon posts! what are some of your headcanons (backstory and personality) for the rest of La Squadra?
Oh boy, these got kinda long. I hope you enjoy my dumb rambling about La Squadra (also my bias towards Melone and Sorbet+Gelato is showing I’m so sorry) I added the songs I used for inspiration on Sorbet and Gelato’s stands so that’s something lmao
Also also I’m still trying to figure out formatting on tumblr I’m so sorry.
Also also also I have so many dumb headcanons for the inner bureaucratic workings of Passione and what each ‘position’ in the gang entails and how Passione became a dominant force in Italy and oops I’ve slipped them in here a bit my b.
Fromaggio
-        He got his start smuggling. Drugs, weapons, people, Little Feet made that a breeze.
-        The thought of being an assassin never crossed his mind, because it seemed like a lot of work. More so than smuggling which was basically just getting stuff from point a to point b without getting caught.
-        Fromaggio was a confident dude, laid back and easy going with an agreeable personality that most people enjoyed.
-        He’s not exactly details oriented though, and that’s what came to bite him in the ass.
-        He was working with one of the few groups not affiliated with Passione and it was only a matter of time before the operation was busted.
-        Fromaggio never really asked many questions about his jobs, nor did he care very much who or what he was smuggling. He met with a man in Malta seeking entrance into Naples and was willing to pay handsomely. So of course, Fromaggio agreed.
-        If he’d been paying more attention, he would have recognized that man as Prosciutto.
-        Fromaggio brought the assassin right into their main warehouse and it was game over from there.
-        Prosciutto took interest in Fromaggio’s stand and decided against killing the man, instead bringing him to Risotto to see what the Capo thought about his abilities.
-        When offered a choice between dying with the rest of his old associates or joining Passione, the choice was obvious.
-        He really, really enjoys gambling. Prosciutto supplements his income with Fromaggio’s gambling habit.
-        Fromaggio gets along well with all of La Squadra. He’s always been an agreeable dude and he’s willing to give just about anything a shot once. So he’s at least passingly knowledgeable about the interests and hobbies of other members.
-        Fromaggio, Prosciutto, Pesci, Ghiaccio, and Melone make up the main ‘kill squad’ of La Squadra where Illuso, Sorbet, and Gelato handle clean up and intel gathering.
 Illuso
-        Illuso does very little killing himself. For the most part, he deals with disposing of evidence. The mirror world is great for that.
-        Because of this he has the lowest kill count out of all of them.
-        He is Sicilian like Risotto, and they converse in Siciliano when it’s just the two of them. Neither of them is particularly chatty though.
-        Ghiaccio and Pesci didn’t know he was a member of the squad for weeks because he rarely ever leaves the mirror. He doesn’t even have a room in their hideout, he just sleeps in the room of whoever forgets to cover their mirror.
-        Most of the time its Pesci’s room because he feels bad
-        I hc him at about 27
-        He joined La Squadra after Ghiaccio and was more or less ‘gifted’ by Polpo because of his quiet demeanor.
Ghiaccio
-        He’s baby (24)
-        His first kill was at age 18 when he was working in a chop shop and beat someone to death with a wrench.
-        Melone was the one to bring him into La Squadra, his bike was getting some work done in the shop and he was there to see Ghiaccio snap.
-        Risotto wasn’t keen on letting someone so young join La Squadra and initially turned Ghiaccio away. Which pissed the boy off enough for him to seek out Polpo, demand a trial, and come back with White Album.
-        He had never skated in his life, but White Album gave him the instinctive ability to do so.
-        He can only skate while wearing White Album. Without it, he actually had to learn.
-        He reflexes and balance also improved greatly after gaining White Album
-        He’s the only one not ‘trained’ by Prosciutto, instead Risotto took over his ‘training’. The Capo wanted to personally make sure he was equipped to handle the life that comes with La Squadra.
-        Risotto and Ghiaccio are quite close. Risotto was initially intrigued by White Album and Ghiaccio liked Risotto the most because he was the only person who was careful with his words.
-        He’s got a keen eye for detail and an eidetic memory. He enjoys taking apart electronics and seeing how they work (and how he can improve them)
-        Ghiaccio enjoys working with cars, but doesn’t like all the oil and grease.
Melone
-        I hc his age at 28
-        He was always too inquisitive for his own good, and very curious as a child. Most people found him annoying
-        Melone has absolutely zero respect for personal space. If he likes you, he will hang off you without a second thought.
-        And if someone retaliates jokes on you he think’s its hot.
-        It is possible to make him angry, but he won’t let it show out of spite. You really gotta be angling for it if you want to piss him off, and if you’ve put in that much effort into getting a rise out of him he’s not going to give you the satisfaction.
-        His mom was like Giorno’s, a party girl who resented her children for holding her back
-        He has an older half sister who took care of him when he was younger. They were extremely close.
-        From her he learned to paint nails, braid hair, and they both really enjoyed looking at horoscopes and other astrology/pseudoscience things.
-        She was 10 years older than Melone, and when she married Melone went to live with her (he was about 12 at the time) and he never really got along with his brother in law.
-        Her husband was in Passione, a low ranking Soldato but an ambitious one. She was aware of her husband’s occupation but decided the risk was worth the reward (and the financial stability)
-        Her eventual pregnancy led to Melone’s fascination with pregnancy and childrearing.
-        She died due to complications with a late term miscarriage when he was 16
-        After this Melone and his brother in law stuck together. Melone joined Passione, receiving his stand from Polpo’s Arrow.
-        The pair of them had a pretty good scheme going on but eventually his brother in law bit off more than he could chew, and Risotto was called in to clean up the mess.
-        Babyface proved to be a challenge, and instead of eliminating Melone as he was working with the target Risotto decided to offer him a choice.
-        Self-preservation won out and in a show of loyalty Melone had Babyface kill his former brother in law. At best, he tolerated the man because his sister loved him and after she died he was a good meal ticket so when his life was on the line it didn’t take much prodding for Melone to turn on him.
-        It took a while for Risotto to trust him because of how easily Melone’s loyalties shifted but once that trust was earned Melone never gave Risotto a reason to regret it even if his impulsive decisions (such as dragging Ghiaccio into Passione) caused him some trouble occasionally.
Pesci
-        Pesci is actually, genuinely, a sweet guy. He’s respectful of his superiors, polite (if not a bit awkward) to strangers, will offer help if he sees someone struggling with a heavy bag or something on a high grocery shelf, the whole nine yards.
-        He has a habit of second guessing himself and apologizing often but is quick to offer reassurance to people if he sees they’re having a bad day.
-        He also has a hair trigger temper and killed a man by snapping his neck with his bare hands.
-        That’s what landed him in jail.
-        Its like flipping a switch with this guy.
-        Risotto personally bailed Pesci out of jail and brought him into his team because of his brute strength. It was novel, to see someone so capable without a stand.
-        He received his stand from Polpo’s arrow.
-        Pesci is the newest member of La Squadra, but not the youngest (that honor goes to Ghiaccio) and I personally hc him at 25
-        His ‘training’ mostly consists of shadowing Prosciutto and observing how he does things. There is a lot to be learned from watching another stand user work, even if their stands are vastly different.
-        He lacks real strategy, which is another reason he was teamed up with Prosciutto (who winds up ‘training’ most of the new recruits anyway)
-        He’ll be considered a full fledged assassin once he completes his first job on his own (with Illuso or Fromaggio tailing him to observe, depending on the abundance of mirrors)
Sorbet and Gelato
-        Of the two, Sorbet is the most talkative. He’s got a pretty good sense of humor, and a natural charisma about him that puts people at ease if they don’t already know him
-        Gelato and Prosciutto are both card sharks and they keep their skills sharp by practicing on each other.
-        While no one would call any of them selfless, they would lay down their lives for each other without hesitation.
-        They have so many words unique to their relationship that people listening in would assume they’re talking in code half the time.
-        Sorbet and Gelato are the oldest members of La Squadra. Sorbet was 36 when he died, and Gelato was 41
-        Sorbet got his start in Passione, Gelato was part of a ‘merger’ so to speak.
-        The previous syndicate Gelato was a part of was assimilated by Passione after Diavolo returned to Italy. He was familiar with Pericolo as they had been part of the same group.
-        Sorbet and Gelato both have stands, although they were both born stand users.
-        Gelato’s stand is called Mack the Knife and it allows him to eat anything regardless of size (and his stomach acid has a ph value of 1.3). On top of this, it also gives him sharp and study teeth. If for some reason something he eats breaks a tooth he has more in reserve, like a shark.
-        Sorbet’s stand is called Fortunate Son and essentially it hides the user and anyone they touch in plain sight. They’re not invisible, but you must be consciously looking for Sorbet in order to find him when Fortunate Son is active.
-        They joined La Squadra before it was ‘La Squadra’ Risotto (being green himself at the time) wanted more experienced people on his team but had little to no luck recruiting people until these two.
-        They’re well known in the gang for their unorthodox (putting it gently) methods of doing things and kept most people from approaching them.
-        Primarily they ‘interview’ people for information on Squadra targets, but those interviews always turn deadly.
-        While they enjoy killing more than anyone else in La Squadra, they don’t typically get kill jobs because they’re just good at interrogating people. They make do with that just fine though. Neither of them enjoys leaving loose ends.
-        Before Illuso joined, Gelato oversaw clean up and disposal.
