Audio
Another of my favourite cheesy anime Christmas songs, “Ginga no Christmas” by the Houmei Girls from Kidou Senkan Nadesico’s “Ashita no Kanchou wa Kimi da!” album.

Frozen Teardrop Volume Four Author’s Notes Translation
This time Sumisawa talks about Relena and Father Maxwells (Duo) voice actors and how they inspired the characters, Frozen Teardrop inspired cocktails, as well as misinformation on fan sites. Translation under the read more:
Translation~
Afterword
I’m not in a position to call myself a “writer”, but I’ve been able to spread a surprising number of misunderstandings and falsehoods. As for funny jokes, the editor told me about this year’s April Fools Day article on an American site called “Manga Market” saying that “New Mobile Suit Gundam Wing will be made into a live-action movie in Hollywood!” where I am answering the interview. What’s more, in fluent English! Using words I’ve never seen or heard before!
It’s an honor to be treated as such a story, but on the contrary, the Wikipedia entry for “New Mobile Report Gundam Wing”, says, “Sumisawa said, ‘anime otaku and magazine editors can’t keep up with the script (scenario)’”.
I would like to raise an objection to the article saying who it was aimed at.
What’s more, it even comes with a source (it says it’s from the setting record collection, Part II, which is no longer available!), so from now on, won’t it be misunderstood as a fact for eternity? That remark was spoken by director Masashi Ikeda and directed at me. “Aim for that kind of script” It wasn’t something I said.
Moreover, at the beginning of that sentence, there was the words “not to mention general viewers”. I get the sense that this was a deliberate deletion and change to make Sumisawa the enemy of those people. In that case, you may say that I should submit a change notification, but it is impossible for me, who is not familiar with computers, to ask. Asking the editor is rude and uncool and I wonder if someone would notice it and edit it off, (I don’t say such things) and I spend my days gritting my teeth and being filled with tears.
So dear readers, how are you? I’m the same drunken bastard.
When I started writing this novel, Mr. Torii, the helmsmen of VOYAGE, made an original cocktail called “Frozen Teardrop.” To introduce a little recipe, we mixed crushed ice and absolute currant vodka with a beautiful light blue grapefruit liqueur called “Hypnotic” as a base, blend it in a mixer and freeze it. A red cherry floats in it resembling Mars. The distribution is very difficult, but the point is that there are two small teardrop-shaped cubes inside. This represents Phobos and Deimos.
By the way, cherries can be green and blue so Mars has finished terraforming. This is the most delicious cocktail. It’s slightly sweet as if you’re dreaming, kindness and coldness coexist in the sourness like the sorrow of first love. Even women who don’t drink alcohol on a daily basis can enjoy it. However, if you drink two cups, you will become sleepy. Hypnotic means “hypnosis” in the French language, and you may end up in a cold sleep like Heero or Relena.
Mr. Torii also made “Snow White” based on apple liqueur. Mr. Torii, who is such a master, is now enjoying touring in Hokkaido and Tohoku on a large motorcycle. He’s like Father Maxwell. I don’t know if he’ll be back by Christmas, but VOYAGE has an even more talented captain and owner, Mr. Sekai, so I keep coming here.
Some of our readers are underage, so we shouldn’t be talking about alcohol all time, sorry. For that reason (what’s the reason?), I would like to tell you the inside story of the actors who played the characters of Gundam Wing.
In my case, as an anime screenwriter by profession, character creation is greatly influenced by the human nature of the actors. People often say that the women in Gundam Wing are portrayed as strong and tough, but in fact, it’s all thanks to the actors. All the female voice actors were beautiful and pretty and Relena is the very representative of that, and the attitude of daring to face the fate of hardships is the original dignity of Ms. Akiko Yajima.
Akiko Yajima’s anecdote is actually more impressive when she appears in a different place than during the dubbing of “Gundam Wing”. When I went on a launch trip for a certain program, I still can’t forget the sight of her yelling with the deep voice of abdominal breathing that she practiced everyday “Take it easy!” at men who were getting drunk late at night and playing practical jokes.
Still, while showing the sorrow of a pretty girl, she said, “This role is really hard to grasp,” and her serious face reminded me of Relena, who would wonder, “How war be eliminated from the world?”
In addition, Yajima, who met Mr. Ikeda who later became the director of another program after a long time, said lightly, “Please don’t disappear this time,” after greeting him was amazing. It’s crazy. I felt like I wanted to scream like Investigator Acht, “Here! There’s a real Relena here!”
Readers may feel a subtle difference in temperature in Relena, who appears in this novel, and some of you might feel that it is somewhat unreliable. However, if you can understand that this character’s trivial duality is the true strength of Gundam Wing, I think that you’ll be able to enjoy this world even more.
Thanks to Mr. Toshihiko Seki for voicing Father Maxwell, who has not yet been drawn, the characters have become like the narrators of these four volumes. Of course, Seki-san’s acting plan has also been adopted for the cute Duo, who insists on being roguish.
Mr. Toshihiko Seki’s voice has a very gentle, refreshing and comforting sound, as if he is trying to support someone from the shadows when he sees someone in trouble, even though he is troubled and careless and messed up. I’m sure you can hear the audio playing in your brain like that.
I’m really glad that I came up with this method of changing the narrator each time, even though it’s in first person.
But…. Ah, I wanted to write more, but this time I will end here. Please read my nonsense in volume 5 again. I would appreciate it if you could send me your impressions.
See you soon.
Katsuyuki Sumisawa.

25 Spyro the Dragon Facts | Thursday, 12.28.2023
The 25th anniversary of Spyro the Dragon isn't over yet!
Here are 25 trivia facts within series itself down below (while also featuring Crash Bandicoot):
the original game was released on September 9, 1998 on the original PlayStation console in North America
the very first Spyro game was conceived into development following the commerical failure of Insomniac's very first game they developed: Disruptor (1996)
the original game in its PS1 trilogy is the only one of the three (barring the Reignited Trilogy) where Tom Kenny doesn't voice Spyro himself, but rather by Carlos Alazraqui (who's known as the voices of the title characters in Rocko's Modern Life and Camp Lazlo respectively)
the game was released in Japan around on April 1, 1999 (April Fool's Day, roughly seven months after the game's North American release), though it had little commerical advertisement, nor an impact itself to the Japanese community, due to the game's "3D sickness" and how the controls and camera angels weren't going smoothly to anyone during gameplay
as the very first major antagonist introduced, Gnasty Gnorc was referenced in almost every mainline game (even he made a few appearances in a few Crash Bandicoot games either as a playable character or a boss)
Spyro was voiced by Akiko Yajima (known for her works in Blood+ and Mobile Suit Gundam at the time) in the Japanese dubbing of the first two games
Irony: the original game was released exactly two years after the original Crash Bandicoot game (developed by Naughty Dog) came out
Tom Kenny (known for voicing SpongeBob Squarepants shortly before Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage came out) is Spyro's most recurring voice actor for his major voice work as the title character in (down below):
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (1999)
Spyro: Year of the Dragon (2000)
Spyro: Enter the Dragon (2002)
Spyro Reignited Trilogy (2018)
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (2019)
Crash Bandicoot: On The Run! (2021)
Crash Team Rumble (2023)
Irony: Spyro's Japanese name ("スパイロ") was used for during the making of introducing recurring villain, Ripto for Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage during development.
since his introduction in Ripto's Rage, Ripto became Spyro's most persistent enemy in the following games down below (cameos excluded):
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (1999)
Spyro 2: Season of Flame (2002)
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly (2002)
Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs (2003)
Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy/Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage (2004)
Up until Crash Team Rumble (as of Season 3, where she'll be playable for the very first time), Elora's only major appearance was in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, although she makes a minor appearance in Spyro: Year of the Dragon and a cameo in Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy as a collectible trading card (although she was cut in both Spyro: Season of Ice (2001) and Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs (2003) respectively)
at the time Spyro: Year of the Dragon was released, Elora was voiced by Carolyn Lawrence (known for voicing Sandy Cheeks in SpongeBob Squarepants and Cindy Vortex in Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius)
Coincidentally, Spyro: Year of the Dragon was released in the exact same year the actual Year of the Dragon event occured (for the Metal Dragon in Chinese zodiacs)
Spyro: Year of the Dragon is the only game in the original Insomniac Games trilogy on PlayStation to not release in Japan due to the first two games performing below critical and sales expectations at the time (However, it's not possible, courtesy of the 2018 release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy)
Coincidentally, both Spyro: Year of the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot: Warped are the highest rated games in their respective series (they both scored an average of a 91 out of 100, therefore they both received "universal acclaim")
Spyro: Year of the Dragon not only marks the final Spyro release on PlayStation, but as the game developed by Insomniac Games themselves since they would go on and focus their development on the Ratchet & Clank and Marvel's Spider-Man franchises exclusively on PlayStation consoles
despite selling well at the time of release, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly is not only the worst rated game in the entire series (second only to the Nintendo DS-exclusive, Spyro: Shadow Legacy), but it was the only game in the franchise to developed by both Check Six Studios and Equinox Digital entertainment (both developer studios dissolved shortly after the game's original release)
despite being planned to appear in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly as the main antagonist of the game besides Ripto, Gnasty Gnorc never made it in the final game, although he is mentioned in-game by Ripto at the beginning of the game
as sibling franchises previously owned by Universal Interactive (now owned by Activision since 2008), both Spyro & Crash have crossed over in each other's games several times throughout the years, which includes:
Spyro the Dragon / Crash Bandicoot: Warped (demos; 1998)
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage / Crash Team Racing (demos; 1999)
Spyro: Year of the Dragon / Crash Bash (demos; 2000)
Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy / Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage (crossover games; 2004)
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (crossover racing game; 2019)
Crash Bandicoot: On The Run! (Season 3 crossover event: 2021)
Crash Team Rumble (multiplayer crossover game as of Season 3 and onward; 2023)
Coincidentally, both Spyro and Crash were not only designed by Charles Zembillas himself, but were also voiced by Jess Harnell (although he voiced Crash between 2005 and 2021, he only voiced Spyro,as well as Hunter in Spyro: A Hero's Tail in 2004)
the 2005 release of Spyro: Shadow Legacy (exclusively on the Nintendo DS) was the last game in the classic series to be available until Spyro returned with the 2018 release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy (excluded The Legend of Spyro and Skylanders since they're reboots of the title character and aren't considered canon)
as of 2023, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy sold over 10 million copies worldwide (yes, it includes Japan)
Spyro made a few cameos in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, where one of his cameos includes being a balloon float for the level "Off Beat" (you can also see it in the background of "Jazz Junction" in Crash Team Rumble shortly before he became playable since Season 3 started not too long ago)
since the 2018 release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, its art style has returned in both Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (also developed by Beenox) and Crash Team Rumble (also developed by Toys For Bob) respectively instead of backtracking prior character design choices as, in a way of indicating any possible future installments being released when made available (even after Microsoft owns all of Activision's IP since post-2023)
a McDonald's TV commerical advertisement for Crash Team Rumble (credit goes to Lex Lang, the current voice of Dr. Neo Cortex) features a small cameo of Spyro flying in the background (as well as him appearing in some of the Happy Meal toys), foreshadowing his upcoming arrival in the actual game itself (as of Season 3 and onward)
Anyway, that's Spyro 25 facts that I could put in after looking them up before the end of the year.
Happy 25th anniversary, Spyro! 🎂

Spyro the dragon playstation
Tumblr media
He is very brash, being eager to defeat the game's villain, Gnasty Gnorc. Spyro originates from the Dragon Kingdom in Spyro the Dragon, and lives in the Artisans homeworld. In the Japanese versions of the games, he was voiced by Akiko Yajima, Manabu Ino, and Masahito KawanagoĬharacteristics Personality and backstory In later years, he was voiced by Jess Harnell in Spyro: A Hero's Tail Elijah Wood in The Legend of Spyro series Josh Keaton in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure Matthew Mercer in Skylanders: Imaginators Justin Long in Skylanders Academy and Jason Ritter in Skylanders Academy. Alazraqui explained in an interview with Electronic Gaming Monthly that he tried to make Spyro's voice sound like "a kid at camp that everybody likes." He was later replaced by Tom Kenny, who voiced the character from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! to Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Throughout the years, Spyro has been voiced by several actors: He was originally voiced by comedian Carlos Alazraqui in Spyro the Dragon. Price claimed in an interview that Insomniac stopped developing Spyro games after Spyro: Year of the Dragon because Spyro could not hold anything in his hands and therefore his actions were limited. According to programmer Peter Hastings, NASA rocket scientist Matt Whiting was hired to program Spyro's controls so that he could move as smoothly as possible. Spyro was given the ability to glide infinitely to give him "something he could do that no other platformer could", making the game's worlds significantly larger and providing more incentive for exploration. He was made younger to appeal to children, needing "to be cute, but at the same time, mischievous, bratty, unpredictable, and something of an upstart." His color was changed to purple so as to avoid blending in with any grassy areas.
Tumblr media
Spyro was originally named "Pete" and colored green during development, but the name was dropped to avoid infringing on the trademark Pete's Dragon, which was owned by The Walt Disney Company. Zembillas had previously designed Crash for Naughty Dog, whose offices were just across the hall from Insomniac's at Universal Interactive Studios. Both characters were owned by Universal Studios, under the former video game division Universal Interactive and have since become an intellectual property of Activision, through the merger between Vivendi Universal Games and Activision to create Activision Blizzard.Īfter developing Disruptor, Insomniac president, Ted Price, contacted Zembillas to design a playable dragon character for a video game. The character has endured in popular culture as a mascot of the PlayStation video game console alongside Crash Bandicoot, having appeared in several games together with him. Spyro was designed and created by Charles Zembillas for Insomniac Games, the developers of the first three games in the series. Spyro is often accompanied by his best friend Sparx, who is a dragonfly. He is known for his ability to defeat enemies by breathing fire and charging at them, and his ability to glide to otherwise unreachable areas in the game world. Spyro is a cute energetic young male purple dragon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spyro is the titular main character and protagonist of the Spyro video game series, including The Legend of Spyro, and a guest character in the Skylanders series, first appearing in Spyro the Dragon in 1998.

FE-Line (TV show) – Inspector Spacetime
The children's FE-Line TV series was produced by the Giapan Television Network Corporation and ran for several years. FE-Line was voiced by seiyū actress Akiko Yajima.
FE-Line, having spent an unknown number years as a stray, is taken in by the kindly Professor Yokoyama.  He and his robot-obsessed nephew, Kenjin, a.k.a. "Kenny" in the English-language dub, repair and upgrade her to a new model, rendered in a combination of live-action special effects and traditional cel anime. Her Inspector-related memory circuits, however, have apparently been damaged beyond restoration, which may explain why the series never crosses over with, or even alludes to, its parent program.
Tumblr media
Manga
A manga series titled FE-Line の冒険:検査官の秘話仲間, or, in English, FE-Line Adventures: The Secret Story of an Inspector, was published in 2011 and ran along side the series. It heavily featured more Inspector-related stories such as “Blorgons in Tokyo” and “The Sergeant Attacks Again”.

The Japanese voice actress who dubbed baby Anakin in TPM, Akiko Yajima, is also the voice of young Sasori.
I just think it’s a bit funny; she voiced two desert boys who grow up to become murderers (albeit in different ways, Sasori is a criminal and Darth Vader technically isn’t, under the empire) and are also enclosed in armor. They’re also both puppets, but in different ways.
