Marbled Monday
Well if it isn’t time for another Marbled Monday! This week’s marbling was found while preparing items to be loaned for an upcoming exhibition at MIAD’s Layton Gallery celebrating over 40 years of Woodland Pattern Book Center, Then as Now: Woodland Pattern 1980-2022. The exhibition will be on display this fall, from October 10, 2022 to December 2, 2022.
The book is by poet, activist, publisher and member of the rock band the Fugs Ed Sanders. This facsimile edition of A Book of Glyphs was published by Granary Books in New York City in 2014 in an edition of 51 copies numbered and signed by the poet. The book was produced by Diane Bertolo and Steve Clay with Tom Damrauer and Katherine Kuehn. It was printed by Silicon Gallery Fine Art Prints and bound by Judith Ivry who also made the boxes and bound Glyph Notes, an accompanying text with descriptions/explanations of the glyphs. Click each image to see the accompanying note.
There’s no information in the colophon about the marbling, but I believe it’s either a shell pattern or it is overprinted. There is multi-colored veining in red, yellow, cream, and black over a mottled blue pattern.

it took me longer than I care to admit to realize the reason tmos’s cover is an elephant is probably because elephants are Thaena’s sacred animal. and thaena sure was. important. that book

Something something tag game
I was tagged by @burnticedlatte and I should be working, so obviously I'm doing this now.
favorite color: depends on the mood, but blue usually wins. creative, i know.
last movie/tv show: movie, halfway through the outsider, "tv" show, 7 vs wild
currently watching: the cursor blink in notepad while I ponder the answers
sweet/spicy/savory: sweet
relationship status: not anyone's business, is it
current obsession: I'm out-obsessed after spending every waking hour for half a year on Till Death, but video games always work
last google search: how would I know, I don't even remember where I left my water glass
Why are those always so boring.
Why not currently reading, or last game played, or last little treat bought, or most used emoji, or favorite font, or—

It would have been nicer if there had not been strange signs painted in scarlet on the doors – twisty, complicated things which obviously had a meaning and mightn't be a very nice meaning either.

The Mark of the Heavens
This sigil appears on the back of Justin's left hand, shortly after his parents are killed in the Siege of Sommerfahren Palace. He tries to keep it hidden, as it marks him the heir to the throne of Barlovia (which is, for all intents and purposes, no longer a nation). When unable to wear gloves, he keeps his left arm bandaged to cover it up.
Over the course of his travels, the Mark gradually fills with power - and as it does, the colors grow more vibrant in turn. At full power, stars can be seen twinkling in the background, as though the Mark were a stained glass window looking out over a night sky ...

Primary Glyphs - A lesson in my WIP's main magic system
Persephone Foster may be a human, but that doesn't mean that my main character is incapable of magic. Glyph magic is the main magic system that will be explored in Byoldervine, and so I thought it would be good to provide a quick crash course on how it works. I'll start with just the building blocks of glyph magic; the primary glyphs
The primary glyphs are very simple; fire, water, earth and air. By drawing the glyphs and activating them, the user can create the desired element and manipulate it at their will, though this can take a lot of practice to pull off safely and successfully. This is why Ellegaarde teaches glyph magic at the Ampitheatre and why many glyph magic users in Paracosm seek out someone to train them before it's considered safe to use them
Glyphs also can't be drawn on just any old object; they need to be drawn onto the wood of a remaligo tree in order to absorb the magic within them. Remaligo trees are often made into paper that are then referred to as spell tags in order to conveniently draw a glyph onto. The tag is then absorbed into pure magic to conjure up the intended spell, so the glyphs are essentially just harnessing the magic in the spell tag in a specific way to achieve the desired outcome

My Dragon Age Inquisition character card embroideries all together! Each is 11.5x19.5 cm. Dorian took 73 hours, Cassandra took 89 hours, and Sera took 75 hours.
I wonder which character I'll do next...

[Image descriptions: Embroidered versions of the Dorian, Cassandra and Sera character selection card from Dragon Age Inquisition.
Dorian holds a book under his left arm while casting magic with his right. There are white glyphs in the air and a white snake running under his cloak and under his arm.
Cassandra sits atop a war horse with Inquisition soldiers behind her. She wears black armour with a gold-trimmed cloak, and the Seeker flag and he cloak stream behind her.
Sera stands atop a slanted tree trunk with her bow held suggestively between her legs, looking at the Skyhold tower in the distance, where the tiny figure of the inquisitor is present in the window. Mountains and turrets make up the background behind her.]

I was trying to get my donkey to eat the weeds around my vegetable garden (under strict supervision so he wouldn't pretend to mistake my rhubarb for a weed) and I got a visit from two people on bicycles, who said they were staying at a campsite and cycling from farm to farm trying to find information about their ancestors, who according to family documents, lived in this region in the 1600s. Like a genealogy-themed holiday—that's a fun idea. I told them the name of the family who owned my land in the late 1700s and said I didn't have info beyond that, but they should try the nearby monastery, whose nuns wrote a book about local families, using historical photographs & archives found in schools and town halls. They were very happy with the tip.
The monastery is a nice hiking destination (you've got to follow this eerie road that I love) and the nuns have a tiny shop where they sell homemade gingerbread and jams as well as painted eggs, one time I took a friend on that hike and we stopped to buy rose petal jam and an egg from them and a nun showed us that book they'd written and told us about their interest in local archives, so I think they'll be delighted to help these visitors. I'm myself delighted because it's kind of a milestone when you live alone in the woods, to be validated in your role as a forest creature by strangers on a journey asking you to provide them with the information they need to complete their quest. Looking back on it I only wish I'd phrased my answer as a riddle, and issued a tempting warning not to touch the mysterious glyph engraved on a rock by the side of the road (I need to go engrave one first)
