tim + brentwood characters as boys i was legitimately friends with in high school and think of every single day:
Buzz- Jake (fake names for all of my friends bc privacy reasons) who complained about hanging out with nerds, got into a fistfight with someone else on his football team bc they called us nerds, was thoroughly convinced he'd run laps faster if he was hopped up on pixie stix (i held his backback while he got sick in the bathroom👍👍), he tried to hit on my older sister and she laughed at him, he was so put out he contemplated becoming a monk for a week
Wes: Max, who i helped sneak an entire bottle of orange juice on to the bus to our choir competition, but was unaware he brought a full bottle of vodka as well, ended up crying on our choir teacher for the three hours after the comp and i bought him a box of donuts after school, he did not stop doing this and had severe beef with a kid he knew in 5th grade and hadnt seen since but also hadnt forgotten their name and last i knew, was still awaiting for a dreaded confrontation to eventually come
Kip: Eduardo, who we all thought was studying during lunch but was actually filling his notebook with weird facts he observed about us and also managed to chew several packs of gum at once throughout our math class before the teacher noticed him, didnt know the plot to the clockwork orange so i lied about it for 5 weeks before he read it and called me just to tell me "you lying frog" befire he hung up
Ali: Ángel, who lied several times on separate occasions to the campus security about where people smoked, forgot what chihuahuas were twice, and almost drowned when he was swimming except his older brother got him and he immediately called me while waiting for the ambulance to tell me he almost fucking died, randomly sang a song about crabs he made up throughout the day
Danny: Ben, helped me with my biology homework because i helped him with essays, once released a live rat into the computer classroom because he had beef with the teacher, once texted me at 11 p.m. because he was having a mental breakdown over his chem work before he realized he was actually looking at trig and i told him id shoot him with a tranq gun if he woke me up like this again, kept forgetting how to tie his shoes
Tim: Teddy, he catfished 6 men over the age of 30 by pretending to be a 13 yr old girl and lured them to the part of town where there is an absurd amount of wild dogs that evade animal control and are known to maul humans, i watched him lockpick the english teacher's door so he could take back an essay he wrote bc it was actually a slash fic he printed out and turned in by accident, we hung out at a dennys once and he accidentally put his hand in syrup, looked me dead in the eye and said "i did that bc im gay" and wore pastel pink for a month bc it pissed off the hall monitor, his dad, and also six teachers he didnt even have class with

tim drake high school friendships, ranked by closeness to tim at the end of post-crisis:
sebastian ives. ives, ives, NOBODY out here is doing it like ives. ives was the FIRST civilian friend ever introduced to tim & the first friend tim made upon entering public school for the very first time. ives has been there since tim's second mini-series. ives as tim's friend is so important he is one of the only high school friends to be brought back into tim's story by others after his creator, dixon, left: he makes an appearance/is referenced as a long term friend with lewis (robin), yost (red robin), & fabnic (red robin). he has at least two major health scares & a fakeout health scare. let's make one thing absolutely clear here: ives *is* tim's best civilian friendship, which has endured as a friendship through *multiple* high school transfers away from him. absolutely no contest.
danny temple. listen. danny & tim don't interact, like at all, post danny leaving brentwood but that's just because the whole kid kobra thing never took off. i'm sure if it did, tim & danny would have interacted a lot more post separation. and listen, danny is the "civilian" friend who *knows* tim is robin. they went on basically two vacations together. they're far closer than your standard high school friend.
zoanne. listen, she may have been a love interest who didn't work out, but that didn't stop them from also being friends. her friendship to tim is also referenced in yost's run in red robin. as far as tim & high school friends, since tim tends to drift apart from people once they're no longer at the same school, zo ekes through with a recency bias for tim. in an end of robin/red robin era she'd be on his current list of civilians he felt close to. she's shown to be extremely worried about him in red robin #10 indicating ongoing friendship.
kevin "hudmeister" hudman, hudson, callie evans: these lovelies were part of tim's core group and have the benefit of length of friendship going for them. hudman & hudson were a core part of tim's W&W group that made several recurring appearances through tim's initial high school years & had a significant part in his miniseries ii. only lower because ostensibly tim did lose contact with them upon going to brentwood, still higher because they played a decently important secondary/tertiary role through many years of tim's publication
darla: darla is the person at louis grieves tim actually likes, okay? he's devastated when she dies and he can't save her and she's brought back to interact with tim again as warlock's daughter & has a small but significant storyline with her friendship with tim as a result.
buzz & kip: when tim is at brentwood, he spends most of his free non-danny time hanging with buzz and kip. they both have a couple issue storylines that tim is involved in & he seems to like them pretty well. once tim leaves brentwood, however, the friendship dies away and is not mentioned again.
ali ben khadir: tim's first roommate, gets a significant storyline and then vanishes, so is below the other brentwood kids. tim likes him though, so that puts him above-
wesley: tim's second brentwood roommate is next, because they spent a significant amount of time together & again had multiple issues to showcase the development of their relationship. wes is under kip & buzz & ali though, because tim doesn't actually like him all that much despite the fact that they're nominally friends. he grows to he okayish with him. i guess.
bernard: listen *if we're talking post-crisis only* (which we are), bernard falls *solidly* at the bottom of the list as tim's least important/significant civilian friend. there's no significant story focused on tim's friendship to bernard specifically, tim is barely tolerating him most of the time & is friends with him basically only because bernard is pushy about being friends with tim & after tim leaves louis grieves he doesn't bother to keep in touch to the point where bernard doesn't even know where tim ended up, only that he's heard *from other people* tim might be in bludhaven (who apparently are in the know as to tim's location). now obviously we can't ignore the trauma that led tim to ghost him, but since bernard after this is never brought up again in post-crisis, he's a pretty solid 'that friendship definitely died once they were no longer in each other's immediate vicinity & were basically only friends with each othet due to circumstances of going to school together only'

I was getting deeper and deeper into everything electronic and industrial, all during my one-year break in-between the Brentwood era and community college. The UK electronics invasion, MTV's Amp, and Wipeout XL were the major influences that led me to that point. I was starting to have an endless appetite for music, and one thing I learned about myself that I could be interested in anything and everything. I already had an affinity to golden-era hip-hop / rap and alternative. The seeds of hardcore started to grow, so there would be no stopping me at this point. There were so many genres, artists, and sounds I was getting into, and I wanted to keep up. I had a position at a department store in the shopping mall, then later at a movie rental store, so I could afford to buy titles for whatever cash I had in hand.
I didn't have a desktop with internet to find independent stores. I had yellow pages instead: thick phone-books listing hundreds upon hundreds of pages of local businesses, their addresses, and their phone numbers all in minuscule print. That's how I discovered them back then. It was a year after visiting my first-ever independent record store, Commack's Mr. Cheapo's. Then came West Babylon's Looney Tunes before the holidays. Still enthusiastic in discovering the vast unknown, I wanted to find more. Port Jefferson's Music Den would be the next destination.
I already felt like an outsider when I arrived on campus. It was a different type of demographic I was used to. I looked around and I'd still see cliques, circles, and other "exclusive" groups of students that I felt I wouldn't be included in. I'd meet newfound friends who'd introduce me to their friends, but it felt forced, and they didn't seem to care. I was crazy for Atari Teenage Riot because they showed me exactly what techno always should've been: deafening loud, criminally high-speed, and maniacally all over the place. I tried looking for people who were in them, and observed what types of music the majority were into. Simplistic, manufactured, predictable dance hits. Boring weekend club-mashers. Formulaic radio chart-toppers. I wasn't impressed. The people who were into that were shallow, superficial, judgmental, needlessly competitive, and at times just unnecessarily mean. Drama artists and attitude jockeys all over the place. That's why they called community college "13th Grade". Now you'd see the disgusting distaste of the late-Nineties music scene I had. But, I did have a couple of good cards given to me. I joined the campus newspaper which I'd write music reviews for. An attractive brunette, Sandra, randomly stopped me to strike up a conversation, and wanted to get to know me better. She was also a Jesus freak. I also made another friend I met on campus who decided to set me up with an Irish blonde acquaintance of his, and we hit it off right away. Even then, I'd deal with constant games, rudeness, and random acts of ego during my time there.
The newspaper meeting ended one late October Thursday night. I finally had the opportunity to drive out eight miles from campus to the Port Jefferson Music Den for some shopping. I walked right in, and started digging. I'm not even there for two minutes and I already find gold: the import version of Alec Empire’s The Destroyer for only $9.00 used ($22.00 brand new otherwise). That was a huge deal for me because (once again) I was an Atari Teenage Riot / DHR fanatic. Right after that? Another label release, this time from EC8OR. I'd finally discover all those artists I heard about on the internet; thirty-minute download times of grainy 480P-resolution video and all. I was really starting to like this place. I start scouring the used CD bins, and I’d stumble upon KMFDM’s banned version of Naive for $8.00 - back when used copies on eBay were selling for…$80.00 each! Then came Pigface’s Washingmachinemouth and Ministry’s The Land Of Rape And Honey for a few dollars used. I copped Fluke’s Risotto because of Wipeout XL, and I’d snatch Skinny Puppy’s Back & Forth Volume 2 and Cleopatra’s Industrial Revolution: Third Edition, all for regular price. Finally, Coldcut’s "Atomic Moog 2000" / "Reboot The System": the first-ever multimedia CD I'd ever own.
Minute-by-minute, I'd slowly discover all sorts of wild and unusual sounds and artists they had on the racks. The Port Jeff- Music Den carried all the rare, unusual, and obscure stuff no other store on the island did. Sure, there were plenty of used CDs and vinyl bins in pop, metal, alternative, shoegaze, indie, hip-hop, and jazz. It was their industrial, noise, electronic, and experimental selections, however, that would be the all-important tie-breaker. They had all what I was looking for. I remembered seeing titles like Gescom’s Minidisc on the racks, Coil’s “Autumn Equinox: Amethyst Deceivers” 7", tons of Clock DVA, Controlled Bleeding, plus some Oval and Microstoria albums. It was wild. I felt stimulated because I found plenty of abnormalities that I never knew existed, instead of the expected, typical, calculated fare that did absolutely nothing for me.
90 minutes later, I took my short stack of CDs, placed them on the counter to be rung up, cashed out, and wrapped up what would be my first visit to The -Den. $82.00 later, I leave fucking satisfied.
With each visit after, I’d continue to score big victories where I’d find them. They were Phil Western’s debut album The Escapist, Muslimgauze’s Hamas Arc, Mike & Rich’s Expert Knob Twiddlers, Aphex Twin’s Analogue Bubblebath 3, Merzbow’s Pulse Demon, and Sam & Valley. I’d nab more DHR albums from 16-17, Shizuo on vinyl, Fuck Step '98, Give Up on 12", and Alec Empire’s Squeeze The Trigger. The best? Autechre / Gescom’s “Keynell” 12" that I found under the vinyl bins and hidden inside the cabinet underneath. It was stickered for $17.00 - another record where second-hand copies sold on eBay for $125.00. I also managed to pick up a few of their 12" EPs, mainly Chiclisuite and Envane.
All these finds made The -Music Den the most unforgettable store I had the privilege to visit. They were like nothing else on the island. Sadly, they closed down after the turn of the millennium, and no store that came after was half-as-good enough to fill the hole they left behind. Believe me, if any of you reading this would’ve shopped there, you’d feel amazed and blown away like I was. I’d still have a tough time dealing with all the constant, petty drama on campus over the next couple of years. At the Port Jefferson Music Den, however, I knew that was a place where I felt like I’d belong.

Why Bernard fails as a love interest for Tim
So this write up will explain why Bernard ultimately fails as a love interest for Tim
First off, he makes no sense to be paired with Tim. He only appeared in six issues and none of his interactions with Tim gave us insight into who Tim was as a character or lead to any meaningful developments. The whole 'he represents the War Games era of Tim in terms of uncertainity' or 'his civilian life before losing his dad' is just untrue as we never see Tim seriously appreciate his friendship like he does with say Ives, or the people at Brentwood as something that keeps him grounded or as a distraction from the hero life/normaly he needs nor do his interactions with Tim show said uncertainty like the struggle of balancing the civilian/hero life that we saw his above friends do. All of his appearances are either comic relief or a springboard/exposition for more important developments such as Tim's relationship with Darla (ugh)
There is also how he wasn't a close friend of Tim and more often than not, Tim was shown to not like him too much. At best they were casual friends and none of their interactions went beyond that. The nicest thing Tim said about him is that he "THINKS he's going to END UP LIKING" him not that he actually does so which at best shows Tim is willing to give him a shot.
At worst? Well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. The first panel is his first impression of him while the last three are the LAST interactions/mentions Tim has with him and occur after saying he 'thinks he's going to end up liking him'.
It makes no sense why Tim would even want to reconnect with him let alone date him. Tim's opinion of Bernard went from "I guess we can be friends but this guy is sus to "maybe he's not so bad and deserves a shot" to "nah screw this guy". It's telling we keep getting sold a false meta history of them being super close friends and have Bernard essentially replace Ives to try and sell the pairing.
And being honest? The notion of Tim dating the guy who perved on his stepmom who appeared in six issues and this is being pushed as his OTP over Stephanie is just an absurd concept.
Second of all. Like it really doesn't do anything for Tim at all.
Bernard doesn't help Tim grow as a character, or even as a person relationship wise as Tim is still doing the same faults he did in past relationships with civilians not telling them he is Robin, keeping secrets, cutting dates/missing them, etc). but they are "resolved" by just making Bernard some ultra perfect guy who knows Tim's identity
Aka the resolution he had with Stephanie in terms of the civilian/hero life balance of having someone who knows both, so Tim is getting a balance he already had and not to mention you can't even say Tim progressed in this manner or learned from his mistakes as he never revealed his ID in the first place, so it requires no growth on his end) (never explained how he does, not to mention watering down Tim's competence in keeping his ID) so it's all moot.
Tim also doesn't progress in his civilian life at all. Like he lives on a boat and (it is said that Bernard helped motivate him to do this but never shown/explained at all and all we see is Bernard saying he likes it and the people there)? Like he doesn't even meaningfuly develop a connection with the people there aside from friendly neighbors at best. As an example There was this "subplot" of them being in danger of being evicted but Tim just doesn't care at all or do anything. Like why not use some of his wealth from his dad or something to like buy people's boats and resell them at a cheaper price so the people can stay?
The people on the boat don't even offer him a meaningful civilian connection as like I said he just doesn't connect with them and even then that civilian connection is kind of moot in the last issue when they all know his identity as Robin so that balance or finding a solution is rendered moot for the same reasons as above as he already found that balance with the Batfamily/YJ friends who know both aspects of his life and again he didn't even it reveal it to them.
Like what do they offer him? People to chill in a non-vigilante way? Like he can already do that with the Batfam/YJ and not to mention that as the series showed the Marina got involved in a lot of Robin related stuff because of Tim's ID, so it's also moot.
Another point is how Bernard for a 'relationship for Tim beyond Robin' really is a relationship where the substance largely comes from Robin. Like aside from Robin is how they got together which Bernard even states in issue 3, in the beginning of issue 7 when Bernard list why he likes Tim all the things he likes about him are reflective of his role as Robin. Like his whole trusting Tim to keep him safe, Tim being special, and Tim being his lucky charm, the examples he uses are of Tim saving him as Robin/being Robin.
And issue 7 also shows like I said above that what saves the relationship is Bernard knowing that Tim is Robin. Not to mention how he really only opens up to Tim/confides in him seriously when Tim is Robin as shown in issue 3 and 9. Hell in issue 3 when he talks about wanting to help Tim, knowing that he knows his ID, when he talks about Tim 'taking too much on his own and not asking for help and loosing himself or whatever' we know it's about Robin.
And issue 10 the grand saving moment for their relationship after the 'falling out' in issue 9 was Bernard saving the day in a Robin related mission and getting the ID reveal (but not really)
Issue 7 highlights how Tim really doesn't do anything for Bernard as Tim. Like all he does is tell him that his parents suck, he's great to make him feel better, and tell us a bunch of stuff about Bernard we've never seen before.....twice and given how the issue kept emphasizing this point (to the point where villains commented on it) and how over the top his parents/with Bernards heroic it felt generic and like the bare minimum and Tim felt like an exposition device.
Tim never really talks to him about his issues with his parents or actually substantially helps him as after Tim does the above it immediately cuts back to their relationship for cute moments. Like Bernard giving him the necklace isn't even connected to Tim 'helping' as he was gonna do that anyway.
Tim as a civilain is just the BF and the real substance comes from Robin (as it was a Robin related mission and Tim saving civilians as Bernard which lead/inspired Bernard trying to save his parents and oh look Robin once again is tied to their relationship)
TLDR: Bernard doesn't make sense as a pairing, doesn't do anything for Tim as a character nor fulfill the purpose he was supposedly brought back for

Traitor Extra: 73 Questions With Vogue
singer!reader
Tumblr media
summary: Y/n Y/l/n receives Joe Sabia for a 73 questions interview, with three very special appearances.
word count: 1859
warnings: fluff
A/n: So is the end of the mystery of who’s Y/n ‘New Man’, just so you guys know: the choice was made by popular demand. Here you also get to find out the name and genre of Y/n and Harry’s twins. This is a Fluff with happy, motherly, in love Y/n.
73 QUESTIONS WITH Y/N Y/L/N | VOGUE |2023
It starts with Joe Sabia's hand pressing the golden floral-framed doorbell, and then focusing on the light blue wooden gate with cast iron flowers detailing that almost disappeared into the exposed brick wall covered in white Wisterias.
Extremely English for a home in Brentwood, California.
Seconds passed before the door was opened by a smiling Y/n Y/l/n. "Joe! Hi, come, let's go inside." The British Pop Icon stepped aside giving him space to enter the property. The camera briefly focused on the surrounding huge whimsical garden, all very green and a little wild, with a bigger variety of flower than one would think possible, there were some fountains, and a small artificial pond with fish.
The camera focused on the children's toys scattered around the garden before refocusing on the woman they were there to interview.
“Hey, Y/n! Thanks for having us, are you ready to answer 73 Questions with Vogue?"
The twenty-six-year-old woman was as impeccable as ever. The long wavy hair that was almost a trademark of hers along with the red lipstick, was down, looking very natural and relax. She wore a red linen ensemble of top showing her midriff and mid-skirt from Cult Gaia, showing off her bare feet with impeccable manicure and gold anklets.
"Oh I'm so excited, I've been waiting a while for this moment." The woman confessed, walking backwards and leading him through the immense garden. The camera panned briefly to the house's garage, where a few cars were outside, before refocusing on the path to the house.
"Good, I know how busy you are, so let's get this thing done."
Y/n tossed her hair back and looked at the camera. "OK, let's go."
"How would you describe your life right now?"
"Hectic." The singer said with a big smile. "I've just finished a leg of my world tour, I've started filming a movie, I'm writing songs for my next album, we are expanding Greentable, we've just moved into this house and I have two little monsters that have arrived in the terrible-two phase."
"England or America?"
"England is a part of me and will always have my heart, I'm always visiting but these days America is my home."
"Something that irritates you deeply?"
"Today?" She asked twirling the ends of her hair around her fingers. "That my children speak with an American accent." The woman shook her head as Joe laughed.
Y/n she was famous for her RP accent, something that had famously earned her the nickname 'Queenie' among her intimate circle of friends —which included some of Hollywood's most A-listed names—.
"How big is the garden and backyard space on this property?" Joe asked curiously, they were only able to see the roof of the house over the treetops for now, the house was hidden by the garden.
"Approximately 4 and a half acres." She answered. "We like outdoor space for the kids to have where to let off steam without wreaking the house, and I love a garden."
They finally reached the lawn in front of the house, a huge white exposed brick Italianate house surrounded by floral bushes. Y/n guided Joe across the porch, and they finally entered the house.
"This house looks like it belongs in another era." The camera panned to show the spacious entrance hall of the house.
"And it belongs." The English woman agreed. "It was built in 1875 in Memphis, it was going to be torn down so they could build a new skyscraper on the land, I fell in love, so we hired a company to 'dismantle' the house and transport it to California."
"What's your favorite room in the house?" The camera followed Y/n as she gave the ‘tour’ of the house.
"The kitchen, is where we always end up getting together, when people come home, on a daily basis as a family." The singer said leading them to the kitchen. "The kitchen is truly the heart of the home."
The kitchen was large, predominantly green and retro-style, the green enamel Aga stove was large enough to cook for an army, and the dark wooden French farmhouse table was large and could easily fit more than ten people, cookbooks could be seen on the shelves, and flowers in vases occupied almost every surface.
"Do you cook?"
"Always." The woman opened the fridge and took out a pitcher. "Do you want iced tea? I made it just before you arrived."
"Please." Joe accepted, the camera following Y/n as she took two glasses from the cupboard.
"My partner and I always cook together," She said pouring the tea into the cups, "and Sunday family lunch is sacred, so it's usually me, my mother-in-law, and my sister-in-law in the kitchen, gossiping about the men and the kids, while the men grill the meat in the backyard." Y/n smiled at the camera handing the cup to Joe. "All very domestic."
"This is amazing." Joe complimented the tea while Y/n took a sip.
"Thank you, it's a blend my mother taught me when I was little, all fresh fruit and herbs from my kitchen garden," she said, putting the jar in the fridge. "The children love to help me pick fruits, vegetables, herbs… we have to get creative not to waste, because my little monsters always pick way too much."
"Supermarket or Farmers' Market?"
"My vegetable garden." She answered. "But if I don't have it in my garden I'll go to the nearest Farmers Market." Y/n put the used cups on the sink. "I was always worried about what I put in my body, but after I had kids it got worse, that's what inspired me to found 'Greentable', only organic, unprocessed, with natural preservatives and at affordable prices, healthy shouldn't be expensive." The singer guided Joe out of the kitchen, down a hallway with both walls covered in books.
"Maximalist or Minimalist?" The camera filmed around the colorful room, before returning to Pop Icon's face.
Y/n had a pointed look, opening his hands to the room they were in.
"Please, maximalist."
"How would you describe your decorating style?"
"Granny Chic, Wes Anderson-inspired with a touch of Gucci Home extravaganza." She led him across the living room, the camera focusing on the awards scattered across the furniture surfaces, and the Gucci pillows strewn across the velvet sofas.
"Living Style Icon?"
"Oh My, you want to cause a war." She joked as she picked up a pillow from the floor and placed it on the couch, sitting up and resting her face in her hands, it was a known fact that her friend group had a few of the most fashionable people in the world. "I'll say Sir Elton John, I love him, he's a very dear friend."
"Most iconic person you've collaborated with on a song?"
"Sir Elton John." She said with a smile, standing up.
"Most sentimental gift you've ever received?"
"It wasn't for me, it was for my kids." The camera followed her into the room that was clearly a music room. "Taylor Swift gave them hand-stitched blankets made from the fabric of her dresses with their embroidered initial, it is really adorable."
"Your kids are two years old and so far their names haven't been revealed in public, I can't wait any longer," Joe laughed. "Are you going to reveal their name to me?"
Y/n gave a harmonious laugh, sitting on the piano bench and crossing her leg, she was silent for half a second, before pointing to the wooden chests in the corner of the room with their names written in golden calligraphy.
"Love Helene and Angel Apollo Y/L/n-Styles." The Englishwoman said with a soft smile. "The name really suits them, Lovie is the most loving child, she's exuberant and outgoing, Pollo is more shy until he gets more familiar with someone, but he's usually the better behaved of the two." She said getting up and opening the French windows that overlooked the backyard, the childish screams and the male voice invaded the room. "Love is our little tyrant, whenever all the cousins get together she's the one who runs the group, no matter she's the youngest."
“What is your pet peeve?” He followed her to the porch.
"A camera in my face." She said with a raised eyebrow.
"What's your perfect day off like?"
"My children, my partner and I at home." They circled the porch closer to the noise, her smile grew.
"Last country you visited?"
"England." She said quickly, without needing to think. “The children went to visit their Granny.”
"A country you'd like to visit next?"
"We are planning a family trip to Kenya." The singer confessed walking down the steps to the backyard.
The camera focused on the backyard, in the background you could see the pool and a sports court, and on the lawn Y/n's companion of almost two years was running after the children. The three had excited smiles on their faces as they played. The man finally caught the little girl in white jumpsuit knitted with pink hearts, her squeal of joy was infectious.
"It's always like that?" Joe asked, as Y/n and he approached the group.
"Always, it's rare to have moments of silence around here." She said being attacked by screams of 'Mummy'.
Y/n bent down picking Pollo in her arms. The handsome little boy hid his face in his mother's neck as soon as he saw the camera with Joe, making the woman laugh. She ran her hand down his back in a soothing manner, whispering in his ear till the little boy turned and waved to the camera.
Angel Apollo had curly brown hair, rosy skin, and his father’s famous emerald green eyes, he was Harry’s carbon copy, even the dimples that showed as soon as he gave Joe a shy smile.
"He's shy." Y/n smiled at Joe, the two turned to watch the man approaching them with the little girl on his shoulders.
From a distance it was possible to see that Love Helene was Y/n mini me, except the eyes, she shared her brother’s emerald green eyes.
"Michael B Jordan." Joe greeted the actor.
Michael B Jordan and Y/n Y/l/n were the power couple the world was in love with, since the older actor had walked with Y/n on the red carpet at Elvis' Cannes premiere.
"Hey Joe!" Michael smiled at the man as he kissed the side of his partner's head, taking Love off his shoulders and carefully lowering her to the floor.
Y/n put Angel down, instructing the two kids to go play in the playhouse, where they could see them.
"Do you mind answering a few questions?"
"I'm ready! Let's go." The Creed III actor and director said with his typical winning smile, clapping his hands.
"Do you mind telling us how you and Y/n met?" the group of three sat on the beautiful vintage rattan set displayed on the lawn, Michael and Y/n sharing the daybed while Joe took one of the chairs.
"Met Gala 2018, I saved this one from breaking her neck on the MET steps."
Y/n rolled his eyes at his partner's 'man' way of telling the story.
"An actress had a very voluminous dress, and when she turned around, her skirt pushed me." She detailed better. "It just so happens that we were standing on the edge of the stairs, in my head everything happened in slow motion, I thought: Okay, I'll be the first person to die at the Met Gala, has anyone ever died at the Met Gala?" She then looked up at Michael, her eyes showing pure adoration. "I just felt someone grab my wrist and pull me, and there he was, we became friends after that."
The couple shared a loving look—that everyone watching would correct call    ’eye love-making’—.
"How would you describe Y/n Y/l/n in three words?"
"Queen…Goddess…" He said with a playful smile as the woman pushed him away, an equally big smile on her face. "Mine?" the third word came out more like a question directed at the singer.
"Yours." She agreed.

Have you seen this video logo before?
If you grew up in the VHS era, you probably have.
Tumblr media
Simitar Entertainment were the most prolific distributors of budget VHS tapes. Their bread and butter lay in repackaging public domain cartoons, sports bloopers compilations, videos about Big Rig Trucks, Dad videos like “Golf Lessons from the Pros,” nearly all of which have not been released on DVD or streaming. The Internet Archive thankfully uploads and preserves these VHS treasures, particularly “Centerfold Photography,” as well as “Nonstop Crashes,” and “America’s Dumbest Crooks.” They also imported a lot of foreign films with cheap and easy to obtain rights, and Simitar at one point released both Jackie Chan’s Kung Fu movies and the Godzilla films into North America, not to mention the BBC’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Tumblr media
Tragically, Simitar went out of business due to a lawsuit from the WWF in 2000, just when the switch to DVDs took place, meaning that the company’s logo is associated entirely with the discount VHS era. Their library is currently owned by their old rivals and foes, former VHS distributor, Brentwood Communications.
You’ll find this surprising, but one of the most soothing and relaxing activities activities is to get on YouTube look up and watch compilations of old VHS company logos, from Media to Vidmark.

Powers, 1998.
Powers was the most awesome staff writer and editor I thought we had at the Compass, community college’s campus newspaper. He was considered a true punk with his tall lanky frame, slicked-back black hair, glasses, red cheeks, and leather jacket, and skinny jeans covering up his nerdy exterior. We had punks back in Brentwood but to me they were off-limits as they looked down on our alternative circle of friends and I. Powers was more approachable and accessible as we were on the same team so I got to know him. Eventually, he offered to cut me a tape and here it is.
On a campus with nothing but unchallenging Long Island club music, Top 40 radio, and lots of their shallow follower fan-base still holding on to their high-school mentality, This was iconoclastic. This was during a time when tape-trading and mixtapes (literally) was in full-swing, all before fire-sharing and burning took over. It was also during a time when tacky hot pink cowboy hats, fake blonde hair, and clean cut pop design was put on top of a pedestal forcing to be the best. No thanks.
You have your history-written essentials by The New York Dolls and Johnny Thunders followed by The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and The Clash. More UK from Crass, Sham 69, and Subhumans U.K., and Anti-Nowhere League. Then the state’s Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and Dead Kennedys. One-timers in speed metal, goth, thrash, even garage that still connected to punk? Yes, they’re there.
It’s been years since I listened to his tape. Looking at the handwritten track-listing, I came a long way all by myself. We played “Born To Lose”, “New Rose”, “Ever Fallen In Love (You Shouldn’t Have Fallen In Love With?)”, and “That’s When I Reach For My Revolver” on Omega WUSB throughout its course. We also played about more than half of these bands on this tape through our other shows and bonus Omega specials. With the wealth of ideas going on, another punk special is way past overdue and this lost tape lights up the entire matchbook.
What happened to Powers? I haven’t seen him since we moved on from community college. All I know is he’s somewhere in Boston, who should’ve enjoyed the last three Red Sox championships and a Bruins cup. As with all friendships of that era, we just can’t stand each other. We wear each other out, dissipate, maybe a visit or heads-up or two and that’s it. Sick of each other and never to be bothered again. And I’m perfectly fine with that.
Thanks.

William S. Burroughs: “A Junky’s Christmas”, Spare Ass Annie And Other Tales (1993)
Christmas 2012. I finished having holiday dinner in Mastic with my friend from the Brentwood era. 10:30PM arrived and she was tiring out for the night, so we hugged and said our good-byes until whenever. I don’t remember. I had the college station on the dial as I turned the ignition   and “A Junky’s Christmas” came on. I caught the tail end of it as the selection apexed itself and immediately segued into some trash lo-fi garage rock. I take off and drove west towards Route 27A / Sunrise Highway where I had the dim low-light road all to myself for a good five minutes under the stars and an almost-full moon, partially obscured by passing clouds covering up the pitch-black meta night sky. Yep, “A Junky’s Christmas” couldn’t have come at a better time which was five years after the start of Long Island’s opiate ‘epidemic’, and as I got back in touch with an old flame whom I haven’t seen in almost six years - the same amount of time she was deep into opiate addiction herself.

i re-read the Brentwood Arc for the 13th time in the time of this ao3 shutdown (praise be the ao3 otw volunteers yall are based and deserve the world) oh my god i have IDEAS for a tim drake/danny temple crackfic that i may never release into the wild
Do u know how fucking funny i could be if i ever decided to write a Father of the Bride (the 1991 one specifically) AU. Like,,,ik thats a rather niche AU but like,,,i could. Father of the Bride would work EXTREMELY well as an au.
Lemme explain: this could be a no capes au OR just a canon divergence post Red Robin 2009 bc i never read further past that bc it didnt spark joy
No capes au? Tim comes back from overseas after doing a business trip for Bruce as a 21 yr old (letting my boy outta dc's forever 17 basement) or going off to college as like,,,a CompSci student for a whole year and now has to break it to his fam he's engaged to a really sweet herpetologist (or geneticist either/or works bc wow he was WEIRD as hell too why was this 14/15 yr old reading about genetic sciences) aka my LOVE Danny Temple that he met at college. bonus points he's the first one in the fam to make the leap for marriage bc thats SO fucking funny (i only do things for comedy)
Post-RR Era canon divergence au Tim decides he needs to take some time and figure out his head bc oh god my boy was a MESS holy shit and somehow (hes a nosey ass/affectionate) ends up in Kobra Cult messes and reconnects to his old friend Danny Temple. Fast forward at least several wacky hijinks, a Danny Tim Road Trip 2.0, long distance pining, some personal crises, emotional revelations and like,,2 years later, tim brings danny home for dinner and hopefully not a funeral bc they both decided they wanted each others disaster selves. More shenanigans.

actually. i was thinking, though. what exactly *is* the metric of a tim civilian friend. as in, what exactly makes a character tim's friend vs a kid he goes to school with who he happens to friendly with (because tim is generally friendly with everyone). what's the distinction?
and i think the answer falls on "does tim's civilian life and robin life intersect in a significant way around this character"
because, listen. we all know that tim is a compartmentalizer who tries to keep the ideas of "tim" & "robin" separate. however, we also know that it's not one or the other with tim--he's both. and the closer you're allowed to that narrative intersection of both tim & robin, the more the civilian in question can then be seen to have importance in *tim's* life and a reciprocation of friendship interest by tim.
because you think of the gotham heights high crew--not only does tim use his skills to investigate what's wrong with ives at one point (he got an embarrassing job), he's also used the W&W crew for unknowing assistance against the joker, hudson leads him to a case at one point, & he runs into a case whole hanging out with them to see a play at the park. despite tim's best effort to seperate parts of himself the close interactions of his other life to his friends is not just tim accepting friendship, but tim narratively showing friendship in return--they are narratively allowed to be a part of his life as robin though they'll never know it.
and the brentwood boys are no different. though they're not allowed the secret, their lives are affected and improved by tim as robin. as they give friendship, tim gives friendship in return. and when tim leaves his friendship and reunion with ives is marked by a case, the one with charaxes.
and even later, with zoanne, her life and relationship with tim is complicated by tim's life as robin, but she is allowed that narrative closeness to his life as robin, closeness to the entirety of his life. she even makes a cameo as having spoken to vicki vale about tim, and vicki's story during that era is finding proof of the hidden life of the batfam.
louis grieve is interesting because darla is the friend of the era who meets this metric--her life as a mob daughter is doomed to return tim to his true life. her resurrection as warlock's daughter is what intersects her with whole of tim's life, not just tim. and bernard surprisingly doesn't have any narrative markers that would indicate these kind of particularly close feelings from tim towards him--tim does not help him on a personal level with his personal life, there's, hm. like bernard does bring him the news of steph being robin, but there's really no personal intersection of *tim as robin* with bernard or because of bernard or for bernard. they do interact during the school shooting but it's no more personal than tim and the rest of the kids. in post-crisis, at least, the lack of tim's as robin having any sort of notable personal connection to bernard narratively indicates a fundamental distance between them where tim is not shown to have any significant personal investment in/towards bernard unlike all the other civilian friends. i would say bernard does make in on account of his presence at the school shooting, however when tim's true self is both robin & tim, for him to not have any significant personal narrative connection to the real tim, it does makes him a notable outlier among the civilian cast.

Okay so this is funny to me. I’m only partway through the Brentwood arc but I already know some of Tim’s trajectory after that from fandom osmosis, so.
When Tim & Steph first meet, they are both living in the suburbs. Steph in Manchester, Tim in Bristol (I don’t remember if it’s after Jack woke up and moved them there, or if Tim was living with Bruce, but it’s definitely after losing Janet). There’s not really maps to show how close or far from each other these are, but Steph considers it part of her turf to investigate things at Tim’s school, Gotham Heights High, which she does not attend.
The quake results in a lot of people leaving Gotham City, and students getting shuffled around, and for some reason despite not moving, Steph is transferred from ‘City Central’ to ‘Gotham Heights’... but Tim only sees her there exactly once, when she’s coming to collect stuff because she’s temporarily homeschooling during her pregnancy. We get the name of her old school because she mentions that the girls who talked to her were from there too.
Tim’s dad yeets the family to Keystone, Tim comes back for Steph’s labor, and talks his dad into moving back to Gotham/Bristol (Jack does not take much convincing). Tim then winds up in Gotham City when it’s No Man’s Land, and then airlifted out, and since this is Tim’s third Very Worrying Running Away Incident from Jack’s perspective, he enrolls Tim in Brentwood, and makes him board despite it being close enough to attend as a day student.
Steph is presumably back at Gotham Heights High still, pregnancy done, though maybe she goes back to City Central, idk. She & her mom are still in the house we met them in, because it becomes a plot point that Arthur has his name on the mortgage (fuck that guy).
This shuffling is all during the era where Steph doesn’t know Tim’s identity. So keeping them Not At The Same School is important for the writers, but there isn’t really any reason to have her be at Gotham Heights at all except to give Tim a jump scare. The preachy convo with her classmates could’ve happened in one of her own sections, which the comics have never shied away from.
Then during the Brentwood arc, Bruce is a jackass and tells Steph Tim’s identity.
So the writers don’t need to keep them apart at school anymore, right? Presumably?
BUT THEY DO ANYWAY!
This is hysterical.
Tim leaves Brentwood because Drake Industries goes up in smoke so Jack can’t pay the private school tuition, and sells the house in Bristol and moves them back into the city, where Tim attends Louis E. Grave Memorial High, while Steph still lives out in the burbs and presumably goes to school there.
So when the writers want More Assumed Cheating Drama of having Steph see Tim’s classmate kiss him, they have to have her stalking him rather than just, like, turning down the hallway at the wrong moment. Or meeting him to study in the library after class lets out. Or anything other than Batman levels of unnecessary creepiness.
Then Steph is ‘dead’ for a bit, we’re skipping all that, Tim eventually winds up at Gotham City High, which as far as I can tell is in the city itself, and hey, Ives comes back! Yay Ives :D
The fanwiki tells me Steph graduated from Gotham City High, but I have no idea if she and Tim are actually there at the same time because her return is a clusterfuck near the end of the series, and she’s at college during Red Robin, which would’ve been his senior year if he hadn’t dropped out. Her age shifts around in canon but she’s consistently older than him.
They are NEVER at the same school I love it. Fucking hilarious.

18 and 19 for the choose violence ask game?
18- It’s absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on…
Tim’s entire Brentwood era. Like if you need “proof” that he was never straight you’re gonna find it there. Danny Temple especially… poor guy can’t even be mentioned on a post without people assuming you’re talking abt dc x dp crossovers
19- You’re mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like…
I’m actually really mad that the batman 2022 had so much emo in their batman and yet I still liked it… like no girl that’s against my brand. Adam West is my Batman. But I suppose the sparkly vampire batman can also stay /j it was actually I really awesome movie. But yeah I hate that it made me enjoy an angsty batman story so much lol

Weaponizing the police is almost commonplace on social media.
In May of 2018, Jennifer Schulte called the Oakland police to complain that Black men were barbecuing in a public park. In the same month, an elderly white woman in Palo Alto, CA, called the police, who harassed filmmaker Kelly Fyffe-Marshall and her friends as she was leaving an Airbnb. Employees at a Nordstrom Rack in Brentwood, Missouri, called the police, falsely claiming that three Black teenagers were shoplifting. A few days later, a white Yale University student called the police, who interrogated Lolade Siyonbola for taking a nap in a dorm common area. The previous month, two Black men in Philadelphia were arrested for meeting in Starbucks. One need not scroll very far down their Twitter or Facebook feed to see yet another one of these types of incidences appear; across the country, these videos are appearing seemingly every week.
Memorial weekend — 99 years ago
Media outlets began connecting Amy Cooper’s phone call to another Memorial Day incident— 99 years ago. On May 30th, 1921, an elevator encounter between Dick Rowland and Sarah Page is said to have set the wheels in motion for Tulsa’s Race Massacre. CNN reporting for ABC Chicago quoted Greenwood Cultural Center director Michelle Brown, who said, “Page initially claimed that she was assaulted.” In another interview for CBS Sunday Morning, Brown was quoted saying, “a man working in the building came running to see what had happened, and claimed that Sarah Page had been assaulted.” Most famously, in a Huffington Post article titled, Amy Brown Knew Exactly What She Was Doing journalist Zeba Blay wrote, “Sarah Page claimed that Black shoe shiner Dick Rowland assaulted her.”
But a Black Wall St. Times editorial written by local J. Kavin Ross tells the story most accurately according to what we know today: “Known by his friends as Diamond Dick, he was seen by a clerk fleeing from the elevator. He continued to run towards Greenwood. The internet was yet to be invented, but news spread throughout the community.”
Historically inaccurate to equate Amy Cooper and Sarah Page
While it is utterly disgusting for white people to use 911 and the police department as their personal racist customer service hotline—to say nothing of the fact that these phone calls put Black people at risk of significant physical danger—it would be historically inaccurate to equate Amy Cooper and Sarah Page.
We know from recent research that Sarah Page was asked to testify against Dick Rowland and refused. She and Rowland were in a romantic relationship—interviews from the 1920s and later accounts of the events leading up to the Massacre that substantiate that claim. Page and Rowland’s elevator encounter occurred on May 30th.
Tulsa Police officers Henry C. Peck and Henry Carmichael—one Black, one white—found and arrested Rowland on the morning of the 31st. Had police chief Gustafson taken the elevator incident seriously, it’s not likely that he would have waited the next day to dispatch police officers to Greenwood to find Rowland and arrest him.
Victory of Greenwood: Telling the stories of the Black Wall Street era
I wrote for the Victory of Greenwood: “On the morning of May 31st, 1921, Dick Rowland was found and arrested for the alleged assault of Sarah Page. During the evening, he was held in the jail at the top floor of the Tulsa County Courthouse when the police brought Page in to testify. There is no written record of her testimony, but according to Riot and Remembrance: The Tulsa Race War and Its Legacy by Boston journalist James S. Hirsch, Page said that the incident in the elevator was a misunderstanding and she did not want to press charges. Rowland was scheduled to be discharged from the jail by a judge the next morning. Had this been an ordinary case, the matter would have ended right then and there, but what followed was anything but ordinary.”
