vinnie had his eyes glued to his phone, not noticing how his girlfriends jaw was clenched and her arms were crossed, closing herself off. “i just don’t understand why you didn’t tell me earlier, this is just gonna be way more complicated now.”

“because i didn’t feel that way earlier!” the baggy shirt she wore hung off her bare shoulders, as she internally reconsidered her decision. it was difficult for her to separate her feelings with her wants in times like these.

vinnie wouldn’t fight back, but she could tell he was annoyed as he scrummaged through his social media and deleted the photos and videos. “i don’t get why this is so complicated for you.”

complicated.

a word that she had heard more times than she’d like to admit, described perfectly for her. her biggest fear and most agonizing worry was that she would be just that— too complicated— and hearing the word leave her boyfriends lips, she felt that it was all coming to fruition.

“i wasn’t trying to be complicated, i just…i didn’t wanna keep it from you.” she apologized, feeling herself become sick to her stomach with guilt.

“i don’t get what—why are you changing your mind all of a sudden? what happened? i thought you were asleep, it’s like…2am..” he checked the clock dropping his phone on the couch. “well it’s all deleted now. i’m sorry if i made you uncomfortable.” he both his hands on the back of his head while looking up at the ceiling.

“you didn’t! i promise, you didn’t, i just… don’t wanna exist on the internet right now.”

vinnie snapped his head back, leering at the girl, “see, now that makes no sense.”

“what?” she whined, trying not to get him upset as he made his way over to her.

“you can’t just delete yourself from the internet whenever you feel like it, baby. you’re an influencer—“

“yeah, who barely shows her face on camera! i don’t make thirst traps and when i do, they stay in the drafts.”

“that’s my problem?”

“no! i just, i didn’t like the pictures, okay?”

“but you liked them when you first saw them, so why wait fifteen hours to say something? where is this indecision coming from?”

“no where! i always had it, i just…i don’t know.”

“yeah, well, i do know. you’re overthinking just like you always do. you can never just let something be good, you always have to ruin it for yourself.” vinnie argued, shoving by her and walking down the stairs.

y/n stood there, complacent. she hated arguing with him and she felt like even more of a burden now.

why couldn’t you just leave it be?

maybe you didn’t even look that bad in those videos..

maybe everything he’s saying is right.

he suppressed a sigh when he heard his girlfriends footsteps following after him, hoping that she would just drop it and leave it be. he kissed his teeth, turning towards the kitchen while shaking his head slightly, his eyes rolling backwards in annoyance.

“you’re right.”

vinnie scoffed, keeping his back turned while his hands continued peeling a banana. “i know i’m right.”

“i don’t know why i do it. i don’t mean to, i just… am hard on myself, and you’re right, i should have said something sooner and i’ll make a post about it if people ask questions, i just..i didn’t feel…”

“what? you didn’t feel what?” an annoyed vinnie dropped the banana on the counter and turned around, not expecting to see the girl he loved so upset. he couldn’t tell from her voice that she was crying, but there she was; lips pouty and eyelids low while tears slid down her cheeks. his face immediately softened.

“sometimes i don’t feel like a good person.” her bottom lip quivered and her feet were planted into the floor. she held her hands together, clasped, like she was trying to apologize and she’d bat her lashes while looking up at the kitchen light, as to dry them.

vinnie’s heart broke.

“i know i am, but…i feel like other people deserve my life more than i do..” she couldn’t hold the tears back anymore and gasped slightly before continuing. “i-i know it’s like..stupid, but, i just feel guilty all the time like i’m not doing enough or not grateful enough and i don’t know why, i don’t know, i wish i did, i swear, vinnie.” she wiped her cheek with the back of her hand before letting her arms fall and a sign escape her lips. “i just..have a voice in the back of my head that constantly tells me i’m too much to handle and that i’m not built for this. for you.”

there it was. that rush of blood that shot to her head every time she spoke up to vinnie. she wasn’t sure what it was, maybe something from her past or maybe she was just wired this way, but she was constantly terrified of upsetting him. arguments weren’t her thing and made her physically sick if she even thought about it, but vinnie was the most stubborn person she had ever met so once you start the conversation with him, there is no stopping it.

“hey..” he cooed, walking around the kitchen island and making his way towards her. he leaned down to meet her level and softly pressed her head against his chest, wrapping his arms around her. he could feel her cry quietly in his arms. “shh, baby. it’s okay,” he whispered, leaving deep kisses on the top of her head.

“i’m sorry, okay? i was a little harsh, it’s not a big deal. please don’t cry about it.” he slowly rocked her back and forth, keeping her trapped in his arms. she put her hands up against his chest, trying to push and snake her way out of his grasp.

“hey—“

“no, vinnie. it’s me, you’re right, okay? i don’t wanna argue or talk about it anymore, i’m just gonna go to bed.” she turned around, clearly still upset. vinnie moved his hand up her arm, lightly tugging her back to him.

“no, baby. stop. we aren’t arguing anymore, i just wanna talk about it.”

“no, vin, because then we will argue and you’ll get mad at me—“

“baby, listen!“ he put his hands on both sides of her face, making her look at him. “what’s going on with you?”

“nothing, vin! i just wanna leave you be—“

“but i don’t want you to leave me be. i want you, only you, whether you’re upset or not. i’d rather argue with you than spend a night with somebody else.”

“yeah, i find that hard to believe.” y/n scoffed, shaking her head.

“stop, okay? let’s-let’s just go sit down in bed and we can talk it through and figure something out, i don’t want you to go to bed upset.” vinnie trailed behind the girl as she began walking away.

“i don’t want to, vinnie. i’m tired.” she complained, groaning internally, and there it was; that trite excuse that would continuously fall from her lips whenever they bickered late at night.

“no, okay? you always say that, i’m not stupid. we are talking and then you can go to bed. i’m not ending this here.” he watched her, his hand resting on the side of the door frame while she dropped onto their bed, on top of the covers.

“just end it here.”

“no.”

“why not?” she could hear his voice come closer as he sat beside her, her back facing him.

“because, i know you and i know that you will stay up all night overthinking and then you’ll wake up sad in the morning with a migraine and act like everything is okay when it’s not and i’m fucking sick of doing that, i want you comfortable.”

y/n shifted over so she was facing him, but kept her eyelids low and fixated on the bed. “hey.”

“mm”

“look at me.” vinnie’s voice was soft and caring in a way that made her entire being almost dissipate in thin air from it’s adorableness. he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear while she gained the courage to look up at him. she couldn’t help the small smile that appeared when she saw his face.

“now i’m gonna say this once, and i want you to listen, okay? because i’m not good with words and i tend to be an idiot sometimes.” y/n chuckled and nodded, waiting for him to finish.

“i love you. like, i really fucking love you, okay? i don’t care what happens or what anyone things, all i care about is us and i want us to be happy and i’ll do whatever i need to make that happen, okay? you’re mine. i don’t care about whatever it is that you freak out about in your head, okay? that’s not real. my love for you is real. you got that?”

y/n nodded, leaning forwards and clinging onto him. “i know. i know and i love you more vinnie, i swear i do.”

“are you okay now? do you feel any better?”

“yes, actually. you make me feel really safe, vin. i hope you know that.” vinnie grabbed the side of her face and connected his lips to hers, cutting off any other words from leaving her lips. the kiss felt loving, yet desperate.

“um..are you gonna go to bed?” their mouths were just mere inches apart and his breathing was borderline heavy.

“not for a little while, i was just gonna edit some stuff, why?”

“because you um…you look really fucking hot when you wear my clothes and it’s kinda turning me on.”

“oh, really?”

“does it look like i care?” vinnie chuckled, towering over her and slowly creeping the hem of her shirt up, exposing her belly button. “i’ve got all i need right here.”

his hands were cold and the feeling of them on her hips was driving her crazy. “mm, so pretty. what a pretty girl.” while the sight of her panties was arousing enough, he moved up back to her face, sitting up between her legs. “can i have you do something for me, baby?”

she whimpered a reply while he moved his hands down the sides of her body. he left small kisses down her stomach while keeping eye contact with her, his messy hair covering his eyebrows.

TOH Gallery Nucleus Info!

All right! The Gallery Nucleus livestream just ended, so here’s some info and trivia I found relevant!

When asked what they would’ve liked to see in S3 that they couldn’t fit in, JBO said “more dates”, while Cissy replied merely “Detention”. Sarah wanted to see the kids go to school, and Shawn Responts suggested one of the demon kids visisting the doctor, and us learning about demon physiology that way.

JBO continued his answer, saying he’d like to see the kids explore more via a road trip, with so many options; Maybe Maine where they’d be trapped in a lighthouse, or a haunted, mossy Charleston. The group joked about Hunter driving, or Vee disguised as an adult.

Sam Bosma would’ve liked to see them visit a comic con and see some Cosmic Frontier stuff, especially for Camila!

Cat Harman Mitchell suggested a grocery store; In exploring concepts for the Thanks to Them end credit illustrations, one idea was thrown out of Amity and Hunter looking suspiciously at a banana; Which, I guess that means the Demon Realm having bananas was retconned, Amity is also really sheltered, and/or Demon Bananas are much deadlier than human ones, hence Amity’s distrust. Gus and Willow would’ve been stoked by a bottle of mustard, which I find connects nicely to Gus’ ‘mustard ravioli’ recipe that he thought Camila loved!

Eden Riegel said she’d like to see King visit the human world and become a youtuber!

Amity’s witch outfit from the S3 montage was designed after Vivian from Paper Mario… Vivian is a trans girl, could this mean…?

The Duolingo homage initially looked too much like Garfield, so they had to change it.

In designing the Boiling Isles, they looked to Flemish and Dutch architecture, avoiding Gothic because it was too obvious and also complicated; Hieronymous Bosch paintings served as inspiration. The one thing that was too gross even for Dana was Latissa, AKA the Titan’s armpit, which initially had a lot more hair follicles.

It was confirmed that in designing the Boiling Isles, they had this idea of the Titan trying to regenerate, hence all of the fleshy masses, body parts, too many bones, etc.! Which can I say, as someone who guessed and analyzed all the way back in Season 1A… I CALLED IT!!!

JBO also mentioned that in early drafts, the show’s sixth episode (of S1) would’ve had Camila in the Demon Realm!

Likewise, he revealed that Belos wasn’t always Emperor; Originally, there was going to be an insect ruling family, with the current ruler being Emperor Pupa. However, they were stuck in their cocoon and had yet to emerge because of Belos, who claimed to be the only one who understood why the cocoon screamed; They changed the idea as it was too complicated and weird. VERY reminiscent of the Titan’s will, the implication he’s still alive and trying to regenerate, showing glyphs, not to mention the giant heart in the throne room…

Vee is around Luz’s age, at about 15-ish! All the kids would be entering Sophomore year, while Hunter is a Junior!

According to Rebecca, Dana said the timeskip was a few months, and the exact number didn’t matter, because in the end the characters would still act the same. Tbh, I respect that; Writing the main story and keeping in mind what matters, really does take precedence over the little details in the back imo.

Luz’s palisman egg is in her fanny pack!!! She took it with her into the Demon Realm!

In regards to the QnA, the first question asked that for writing a show like TOH, where everything comes full-circle, what was solidified?

JBO said that the main and only thing (and this can change!) is knowing exactly who the characters are. One of Dana’s great strengths is the cast, and having believable characters that you could know what they’d do in a situation. One thing that’s hard about TOH but helps make it what it is, is that the writers had to throw out a lot of stuff to get to what they felt was real and right. You go in with characters and think you know what they want and need, but that can change; It’s really about knowing what feels real. JBO also said that Dana had certain visuals/images she wanted for the ending of the show from the start!

When asked what surprised them for making it in, even if it was too gross; Andy Garner-Flexner brought up the magic shop the kids visited and all of the references, like the Ness shirt. They also put some Pokemon Team Aqua and Magma costumes in some boxes too! Fun fact, Andy’s husband asked him to hide a bunny for him in the background of S2 near the ending.

Surprisingly, some stuff would be gross or messed-up, and they’d make it even worse, only for the execs to love it; Like Flapjack’s death scene! Oof…

The crew had to avoid religious connotations for background books, so a D&D manual called “Advanced Sinning” was cut. Showing guts was fine, but no Donald Duck; Shawn wanted to put in a Donald Duck easter egg, for the implication he visited the Demon Realm or was even from it. Copyright was the hardest thing to get past execs in general… They tried to get Disney’s version of Hades on Luz’s wallpaper, but had to settle for the videogame instead. Cat can’t believe they got away with Hollow Mind and Lilith’s ice cream scene.

In regards to favorite fan theory? Sarah Nicole-Robles explained she didn’t know the plot in advance, so when she got the scripts for S2, she wondered if Hunter would be a homewrecker for Lumity, but was relieved and confirmed that no, he’s a SIBLING. Rebecca loved the Collector Luz theory, and JBO joked about the “Lego Eda” theory being right, their plans for a spin-off of her… Not to take it too seriously but this does remind me of my theory about the Collector turning everyone into toys…

In regards to a premise for a TOH spinoff, Sarah said she’d love an MTV cribs one-off of the Owl House, a tour of the rooms. Cat wanted a Lilith show about her historian adventures; Maybe a How I met your Mother style flashback show for the adults as teens, and how they got to the point they are now.

Andy wanted a Raeda prequel; JBO wanted to explore the deep past of the Demon Realm and the world beyond the isles. The characters would be unconnected to TOH’s on the surface; Different characters in a different part of the world. Rebecca joked about a Hooty spin-off.

In regards to the hardest character to work on; For JBO it was Belos… He was hard to write because he’s from so many different places and lived lots of lives in the Demon Realm, they had to ask does he have a set slang, a way he talks? Does he talk like a colonist? Likewise, Belos’ plans and motives are a secret for a good portion of the show, so it was tricky figuring out how much to reveal and when throughout the show.

Andy said that because he asked Dana, they changed the way they did glasses in side-profiles! This change can also be seen in Them’s the Breaks, Kid; Was he responsible for that too?

For Cat, one challenge was how short King was; They had to go for the shortcut of him riding on shoulders. This is because they’d want to do shots of characters, but not show their feet, but King was so short he’d be cut-off; So they went for the “Pikachu solution” to keep him in-frame.

When asked what their palismen would be, Sam Bosma said a penguin; Rebecca wanted a deer/elk, anything with antlers to stab with and use as a melee weapon in conjunction with magic. Andy went for a mole (which is also his fursona), JBO asked if anyone had a moth palisman? Shawn said he’d be a giant ground sloth, about the size of the Bat Queen, that he’d have to drag around.

Cissy went for a honey badger, since it could get stuff done; Be mean for her when she’s too nice. Sarah brought up a puppy, dragon, octopus (this last one reminds me of Thanks to Them!), Cat would be a puffball cat; The opposite of Ghost’s sleekness, just fuzz and eyes.

When asked what Hunter’s first day at Hexside would be like, JBO said that he’d simply “turf out”. Rebecca said he’d get eaten by a locker, as did Sarah; Rebecca explained Hunter would make the mistake of putting food into his locker, so the next time he opened it…

Cissy of course said detention. Cat said Hunter would get lost; Rebecca said Flapjack would have to help, and everyone cringed because y’know, JBO said that was too soon.

Someone asked how they approached fleshing out Camila through a dream sequence? JBO explained that from the start, they KNEW she was a good mom and wanted what was best for Luz, and not in a super wrong-headed way either. But at the start of the show, all we had was that she sent Luz to camp, so it was hard to reconcile this take with that action. It took a lot of thought, how did this happen? Everyone had their own experiences with their moms worked in.

In the end, the writers realized they’re all at that part of life where you realize your parent is their own person and doesn’t feel any older than anyone else. So when they looked at Camila as her own person and not just Luz’s mom, that helped them make their breakthrough on her character.

Andy brought up as another bit of Camila characterization was the background, and all of the queer community books she was reading; Not only does she support in one way, but she’s learning. And in regards to what Camila went through after Manny passed…

In the background, you can see signs of things being unfinished in the house; A lot of things incomplete, boxes not yet unpacked. It’s like a stand-still in time; Camila couldn’t keep going with some of these things. There were still boxes at the end of the hall with the family photos, it was half-painted. Given the short runtime, they really used the background and environmental storytelling to flesh out Camila this way.

When asked what coven they would be, Andy mentioned he thought of this answer in anticipation of that type of question, on his way to the event. He considered Oracle or Construction but decided on being a wild witch. Rebecca went for Abominations or Beastkeeping; JBO also wanted Abominations, so he could get to the bottom of what this thing is that he’s making, and talk to it; Is it bad to have it blown up every other second? Someone jokingly suggested what if Abominations were just Titan boogers.

Cat chose Illusions, Shawn opted for Potions and Oracle. Sam Bosma went for a smaller coven from Covention, like the Tiny Cat Coven. Sarah decided Bad Girl Coven was a cop-out answer, so considered Plant or Beastkeeping, ended up really feeling the former today. Lilith would be Emperor’s Coven; Just kidding, it’d be beast-keeping to keep all eight-legged friends far away. Eden chose Bard Coven.

When asked about the human outfits they liked, Bosma mentioned he loved the Cosmic Frontier ones; They always had the red and yellow in mind as a DS9 reference, but he still experimented with other colors.

At one point, Dana couldn’t decide between two Gus shirts; So she flipped a USB drive instead of a coin, and with that opted for his Dinosaur shirt! Cat said Hunter’s wolf shirt was a vibe; Andy mentioned they ‘tortured’ Matthieu Cousin by asking for more and more costume variations, until he said he needed a break for his wrist. Andy said Amity’s fits were good, Sarah concurred that Amity looked so hot and was killing it.

When asked if Flapjack ever tried flapjacks, Sarah said objectively yes. Rebecca figured he probably did; Andy suggested it was because of Camila, and Flapjack was told he was eating flapjacks too, but didn’t know if they were good.

(This led to a question among the group of whether palismen had taste buds, which they figured only Dana could answer. We know palismen hate the taste of goreberries, so the answer is yes!)

When asked what the characters’ zodiac signs would be… Dana prepped Rebecca with an answer ahead of time for this; She told Rebecca to tell them that Earth’s astrological calendar didn’t exist in the Demon Realm, they didn’t even have the same number of months. It’s a much more confusing system and they can’t answer that question; There’s thirteen months and 666 days, and the animals associated with each month are worms or other tube-shaped creatures.

(Andy did say he HC’ed Willow as a Virgo since he was one too and related to her. This isn’t canon however.)

When asked what anime the kids would like, Andy brought up My Hero Academia, Naruto, Yuyu Hakusho (which inspired his fashion choices). JBO said Gus would really get into a show about some dude addicted to gambling but also GREAT at it, always finding a way to pull it off; Like a mahjong anime.

In regards to their favorite creature/demon, it was the skin-eating fairy from the first episode for Cissy, whom Eden voiced! Cat said Hooty was a disgusting work, Rebecca liked the little version of the Owl Beast and had a plush on hand of it! For Andy, it was Titans. Bosma liked the detention guards, and…

Shawn said he liked the Bat Queen; And in their discussion, JBO revealed she wasn’t the Titan’s palisman (pointing out he was too big for her), she just belonged to a giant who lost her. Shawn liked her story of becoming a ruler after that incident.

And that’s it! Very illuminating stuff about production. Very sad to hear the Bat Queen’s backstory here, since it likely means we won’t have it addressed in S3, nor will the writers retcon her as the Titan’s to fit it into the remaining storyline. Thrilled about what we heard of the Titan’s regeneration and Belos’ original story concepts, especially since I WAS correct in likening him to a beetle in Season 1B, after all! Between this and Titan King, my earliest S1 theories have been getting vindicated, babey!

What would each warrior nun character be if they were a fruit?

Ava is a watermelon 🍉 because she's super sweet but when you get one you're like wth do I do with it now there is now way this is going to fit in my fridge.

Beatrice is a tomato 🍅 she's a lil confused but she's got the spirit.

Camila is a peach 🍑 she is pretty and delicious but don't forget there's a stone inside she will break your jaw.

Lilith is the proverbial apple 🍎 from the Bible stories you're NOT supposed to eat it you will literally make god mad.

Mary is a lime 🍋 she can be sour by herself but prepared the right way there's not much better (reminder Mary drinks a lot and there are limes in margarita, gin and tonic, etc…)

Vincent is a banana 🍌 because there's a very short window of time for them to be good, after that they're all gross and rotten and brown.

Superion is a mango 🥭 because it's pretty hard to figure out how to eat it but when you do 🤤

Michael is a fig people always trying to put them in foods they don't belong in 🤷‍♀️*

Yasmine is a strawberry 🍓 because neither of them are any good at driving.

Duretti is a kiwi 🥝 he's better with the skin off.

2. i think phoenix is genuinely incapable of dying with his current track record. on the topic of spirit channeling though, i think sissel is the kind of guy to be sceptical of it until he sees it, despite all the supernatural aspects of his life.

I'm sorry, there is a Hunter scrapped credits idea in TTT?? As a Hunter fan I can't believe I wasn't aware of this. Where can I find it???

yeahxkjsk we know of some scrapped thanks to them ending credits images, that were considered/brainstormed back in the day. we don't actually have any sketches of them though, just word-of-mouth descriptions from the crew.

for example, we could've gotten amity and hunter being confused by bananas in a supermarket (and this was said during the gallery nucleus exhibition q&a) or hunter helping camila out at the vet clinic (said during the latest streamily q&a), as far as i remember!

“I never said thank you.”

Hunter grabbed a shopping cart, tugging it out of the line and wheeling it towards the door. “For what?”

Amity jogged after him. “For coming to help when my parents locked me up.”

“Oh.”

The door hissed open of its own accord, and Hunter jumped backwards, nearly landing on Amity’s feet. “Magic door!”

Amity snorted, though the door sparked a deep pit of unease in her stomach. “I doubt that very much. Come on.”

She pushed forward into the grocery store, and Hunter came behind. “You didn’t need to thank me,” he said after a moment.

“What?”

“For coming after you. I was… mostly just running away from Belos, and running towards you seemed like the least cowardly way to do it.”

“How chivalrous.”

“Hey, you’ve got Luz to be your knight in shining armor, you don’t need me. What’s first on the list?”

“Uhhh… apple ju—HEY!” Amity glared at the list. “Hunter, has the apple blood in the human realm tasted weird to you?”

“I don’t know, I never HAD apple blood.”

“Wait, really?” Amity shook her head. “Okay, I’ll get you some real apple blood once we get back home.”

“We don’t… what’s wrong with the apple blood here?”

Amity shook the list at him. “It’s apple JUICE here!”

“That’s probably the same thing, right? I mean, juice, blood, what’s the difference?”

“I’m not sure, but I think apples are different creatures in the human realm. Come on, let’s find some.” Amity tugged on the arm of the first store employee she could find. “Excuse me, do you have apples?”

She heard a quiet snort from Hunter. “What, does it LOOK like they sell livestock here?”

“Sure. Produce section, they should be right near the bananas.” The employee pointed. “Big sign. Can’t miss it.”

“Thank you!” Amity grabbed the front of the cart, directing it towards the sign that read produce. “Let’s go see for ourselves.”

“What?! Amity, apples are dangerous, do you even have Ghost with you if—

Amity tugged the cart harder. “If I’m right…” She jabbed a finger at the red spheres gracing the shelves, labeled Red Delicious. “Look!”

Hunter approached them cautiously. “Eugh, are they just selling apple corpses? Without proper refrigeration? Or are they alive? They’re not chained up or anything.” He gingerly poked an apple, then leapt back.

The apple shifted slightly at his touch, but in a normal “object just got poked” way. Hunter reached out and picked it up, turning it over in his hands.

“… Amity, I think it’s a plant. Of the non-carnivorous variety.”

“That’s what I thought. Camila asked us to pick up apple juice and red food dye. She hasn’t had any apple blood at all! I thought she looked confused when we asked her about it, but I hoped she was able to find some.”

“There’s a refrigerated section of the store—maybe they have other apples, or real apple blood there? Maybe the plant is named after its likeness to the animal?”

“Hm.” Amity shook her head. “I’m starting to think maybe apples are just different in the human realm. But we can give it a look.”

She followed Hunter to the refrigerated section of the store, examining the products. “Milk, milk, milk, cheese, eggs—what KIND of eggs?! What laid them?!” She picked up a carton, examining the contents with a snort. “Extra large? These aren’t even CLOSE to the size of the smallest griffin egg!”

“Weird,” Hunter agreed.

Amity pointed at a door. “We haven’t checked there yet?”

“Says employees only.”

“Exactly. If they have a live apple, it’ll be back there.”

Hunter shifted back and forth. “But it’s for employees only, Amity! We don’t work here!”

Amity shuddered, but paced in front of Hunter. “We’ve spent our whole lives doing what someone else told us to do! My parents! Belos!” She stopped to face him, one hand clenched in a fist and raised up at chest level. “We’re finally free! Are we going to let a door tell us what to do?!”

“Yeah,” Hunter said slowly, “Yeah! I mean—yeah, you’re right, we shouldn’t, not yeah we’re letting the door tell us what to do!”

“Alright! Are you ready?”

Hunter squared his shoulders with a gulp. “I’m ready.”

“Don’t you dare bail on me! I’m not going to break the rules alone!”

“Ha! Don’t you bail on me!”

Neither of them pushed through the door.

Hunter glanced at Amity. “Any time you want to go is good.”

“After you.”

“No, it was your idea.”

Amity laughed nervously. “I mean, maybe we shouldn’t. What if the door is trapped?”

“Absolutely,” Hunter agreed, “The employees might have rigged it, in case a non-employee tried to get in. Kikimora set up a BUNCH of traps like that in the keep. She always forgot to send me the memo on where they were, though.”

“Hunter.”

“Yep. Yep, I hear it.” Hunter took a deep breath. “We can do this.”

He pushed open the door, and Amity followed close.

The door clanged behind them, and a wave of panic swept over her.

“Oh, titan, what are we doing?! This isn’t some stupid rule designed to make us miserable, it’s just not a space that customers are supposed to go!”

“Bad idea,” Hunter agreed, “Can’t believe I let you talk me into this!”

“You actually went in the door first!”

Hunter whirled around, pushing on the door. His face paled. “Amity. Amity, I think it’s stuck.”

Amity shoved the door. It didn’t budge. “The employees did trap it! You can warp out of here, right?”

Hunter shook his head. “I left Flapjack outside.”

“What?!”

“It said no animals except for service animals on the sign outside!”

“That is your service animal!”

“In the human realm, not being able to do magic is normal!Besides, the sign also said no weapons!”

Amity summoned an abomination. “I’ve got this!”

The abomination pushed on the door with a groan, then stepped back and charged.

The door shuddered but didn’t open. Amity dismissed it. “Great. We’re stuck!”

“Camila knows where we are. She’ll come for us.” Hunter gulped. “Oh, we are in trouble.”

Amity put her face in her hands. “I can’t make her mad! What if she says I can’t date Luz anymore?!”

“Because telling you not to date Luz worked out very well coming from your mother?”

Amity sank to the ground with a groan. “She trusted us. And we let her down, and now, instead of making LESS work for her, we’ve made MORE!”

Hunter paced back and forth. “She won’t kick us out,” he said softly, “She won’t kick us out, she won’t kick us out, she won’t—”

The door moved, and Amity jumped up. “There’s an employee coming! Do you think they’ll kill us for disturbing their sanctum?!”

“Better than getting killed by Camila!”

The door rattled, and Hunter clung to Amity’s arm. “I’m sorry for attacking you and threatening Luz at Eclipse Lake!” he yelped, “In case we die, I want to say I’m really, really sorry!”

Amity gripped his arm just as tightly. “I’m sorry for cooing at Ghost and calling her a good little hunter baby when she pounced on Flapjack! I should have discouraged her!”

“What?!”

The door swung inwards, and the employee from earlier sighed. “What are you doing in here?”

“It opens in,” Hunter whispered.

“It opens in,” Amity confirmed, face palming, “It’s a pull door from this side.”

“Yeah, I wish it weren’t it makes it hard to get things OUT,” the employee agreed, “What are you two doing in here?”

“We… got lost?” Amity tried.

“Dude. Go make out somewhere else.”

Amity let go of Hunter’s arm. “Oh, ew, no! No offense.”

“She has a girlfriend,” Hunter yelped, “No!!!”

“Alright, alright, I’m sorry. Just…” the worker pinched the bridge of their nose with a sigh. “Get out of here.”

“Okaythanksbye,” Amity yelped, grabbing Hunter’s arm and tugging him out. “It opened the other way,” she said again, shaking her head.

He laughed. “It opened the other way.”

Amity let go of his arm and took the cart. “Well, I think we can safely say that there are no animal apples in this store. Let’s just get the stuff on the list and go.”

“Hey, what did you mean about Ghost pouncing on Flapjack? Because she’s a cat? She’s hunting my bird?!”

“Whaaaaat? No. Come on.” Amity started to walk briskly down the aisles, pushing the cart in front of her.

“Amity!” Hunter jogged after her. “Amity!”

If Luz Were Into Vocaloid Headcanons 🎤 💙 🎤 💙

(This is season 1 Luz btw.)

• We all know that Miku would be her favorite! 🎤💙

• Being a huge nerd, Luz would make amvs, run blogs, write fanfics, draw ship art (Miku x Len and Miku x Luka are her favs), as well as general fan art all dedicated to the characters.

• She plays “World is Mine” in the car and loudly sings along to it as her mom drives her to school. During the entire ride, Camila was confused.

• The song “Po Pi Po” is set as her ringtone.

• At school, she cosplayed as Miku.

• She would make Vocaloid references that no one in her school would get.

• She’s been to a bunch of Vocaloid concerts before.

• When Luz introduces Vocaloid to Willow and Gus, they automatically love it! Who wouldn’t love fictional humans who have cool hair colors, big eyes, and computerized voices!

• When Luz introduces it to Amity, she thinks the whole Vocaloid thing is okay. I mean, it’s not like she's made her own self insert oc and shipped her with Miku and Gumi or anything.

• Luz wants to do an English cover of the song “Magnet” with Amity. When Amity views the English lyrics to the song, her face goes red, but she’s willing to give the singing thing a try, so as long as no one can hear them.

• When Luz introduces Vocaloid to King, he’s not really that into it. However, after listening to an hour of songs and watching a couple of videos, he soon starts to like it. His favorite “android human” is Len or “banana boy” as he likes to call him.

• When Luz introduces it to Eda, it doesn’t interest the owl lady, but she will admit that she does like the look of the woman with the red sleeveless jacket (aka Meiko). She’s got that sort of sassy, rebellious, fun aunt/mom vibe that Eda loves.

• Luz throws a karaoke party at the Owl House and invites Willow, Gus, and Amity there. Being that the party is vocaloid-themed, how it works is that one or two people will get up on the fake cardboard stage and sing a song while the others in the audience cheer them on using glow sticks (sort of like a real Vocaloid concert). The only ones who are dressed up are Luz (who’s cosplaying as Miku) and King (Who’s cosplaying as Len. Luz made the outfit for him and even stitched up a little Rin plushie to go along with it). Everyone has a blast at the party! Hooty even gets the chance to sing a couple of songs.

Some Vee headcanons

Initially, staying with Camila was just a longing “what if” fantasy, and she just kept up the Luz identity because she realized it would let her attend a crash course in acting like a normal human

She was quiet and passive at the camp at first, watching how other kids tied their shoes or operated faucets or addressed adults before trying it herself. It still took her a few days to realize humans don’t refer to themselves as “humans” and that bananas need to be peeled.

It wasn’t shown onscreen but Luz must have had more luggage for a three month trip than just the satchel she brought to the Boiling Isles. The rest actually did make it to camp. Vee learned Luz’s handwriting from a notebook she was using for conlang practice.

Vee ransacked that luggage for clues and borrowed a phone to frantically cyber-stalk Luz and Camila, when camp was almost over and she realized the real Luz still hadn’t come back and she might get to actually keep this up long term. That relatable moment of searching for your quasi-mom on LinkedIn because you don’t actually know what she does for a living.

When she was secretly cramming Spanish, she tried to find video or audio of Dominican Spanish speakers to get the accent and grammar right - kind of for her disguise, but mostly just because she wanted to sound like Camila.

Vee kills at spoken languages (it’s a basilisk thing) but she’s never great at reading or writing, even in English. She crossed out “Lus” on a letter instead of starting over because she was not going to write all that over again.

Part of why Camila wasn’t suspicious of “Luz” suddenly changing so much: Luz and Vee were around the same age that Camila was when she started working really hard at masking her own ADHD

Vee was seriously stressing out the first few days home from camp, alone with a stranger with no peers to copycat and no structured environment for guidance. Camila was really worried Luz was afraid of disappointing her or something.

Vee never did figure out Luz’s laptop password and just had to awkwardly ignore it and use her new phone for everything

After Yesterday’s Lie, Camila had to have several gentle but very serious “hey, you realize that behavior is actually really messed up, right” conversations. Vee honestly thought that committing to tricking and lying to Camila forever while Camila’s real daughter was missing and maybe dead, dooming herself to the constant underlying stress of believing her own mother would reject her as an imposter or even a monster if Camila actually knew anything about her, was a great idea and win-win for both of them. Once she’s learned more about what familial love should be like, she’s mortified by remembering how she used to think.

Camila also gave a nice pep talk about what “Noceda” means… Vee went from giving up super easily to diligently working on moving on from her past traumas at her own pace.

Vee honestly had complete confidence in Luz and Camila and the Hexsquad to defeat Belos and the Collector but she was not expecting it to take like three days.

Luz and Vee were friendly and hung out sometimes during the Thanks To Them time period, but they didn’t really become sisters until after Watching and Dreaming when Luz wasn’t isolating herself as badly and they had more one-on-one time with the other kids moving out.

Basilisks can mimic a huge range of voices and sounds and Vee sometimes pranks people by making cell phone notification noises
