I tend to think that Earth and Water Signs are the TRUE psychopaths of the zodiac LMAO Underdeveloped Taurus, Virgo and Caps are so incredibly selfish and self-centred that they make human interactions such a misery business. And due to the nature of their Earthy-ness—meaning they can be quite hard to shake—Earth Signs can be quite bigoted about certain viewpoints they hold. Or is it really an inability? Is it not simply a refusal? An Earth Sign must ponder this upon itself. Day Three - Opening Plenary

Day three for me was the official start of the conference. After a delicious breakfast and lively conversation, James Freeman (the man who managed to put all of this together!) introduced our morning speaker, Dr. Jaiya John. The first words out of Jaiya’s mouth were “Good morning, family.” After only a couple of days, it was clear this community was family. While a group of conference attendees were gathered together, one of the hotel staff asked if they were a part of some sort of family reunion, despite the fact there were three or four continents represented in their small group. Even riding the elevator up to the top floor where everyone gathered for breakfast was what we in CYC like to call “relational.” These elevators were a bit of a nightmare...they would stop on floors with no one around and only two of them were even running. This resulted in a flood of people needing elevators with barely any availability. However, even when those in the elevator were shoulder-to-shoulder, the doors would open and everyone would say in nearly in unison, “we’ve got room for one more!” Getting to the top floor of the hotel turned into a clown car situation for the rest of the week, but included some of the best laughter and stories I heard throughout the conference! So hearing Jaiya greet us all on our first morning with the title of family seemed only fitting.

Jaiya’s presentation, as well as the theme of the conference, was hope and even more so love. Jaiya spoke about the children, youth, families, and other professionals we work with and encouraged us to “see them beautifully.” As Jaiya said, Child and Youth Care practitioners are “swiss army knives” - we serve many different purposes, but above all, we serve our children and youth. Mother Teresa was fittingly quoted that morning when she said, “As long as I operate out of my endless well of love and compassion, I do not grow fatigued.” “Love is infinite, I am not” was a statement from Jaiya that sticks out in my numerous pages of notes. It is easy to become fatigued or burnt out in this field, but if the idea of operating out of love and verbalizing love with each other, certainly nurtures the hope within myself for a fulfilling and long adventure.
